Gibbons said it's critical that if Louisville wants to attract the same kinds of businesses and possibly give its retail and restaurant scene a shot in the arm, it will need a visible connection between the traditional downtown on the west side of the railroad tracks and the 26-acre mostly vacant site on the east side where a 530-space RTD parking lot is planned.

"The (proposed) parking area feels like a totally different part of town," Gibbons said after going on a walking tour of the future station site at the corner of Front and South streets. "Access to the downtown is as important as the rail."

Debbie Krueger, owner of the Crazy Horse Salon on Front Street and a member of the Louisville Downtown Business Association, agreed that physically linking future development on the east side of the tracks to existing businesses on the west side is vital. more

Traders call for check on OMCs

(NTA) on Monday warned that masses would rise up against the government if it did not limit the profit of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and refineries.

Chairing a meeting of the NTA here, Qaumi Tajir Ittehad, Pakistan, Vice President Malik Sohail Hassan said that politico-economic instability had pushed the country to the brink and now winning back the local and foreign investors was the biggest challenge to the coalition government.

On this occasion, business leaders Syed Amin Pirzada, Chaudhry Muhammad Naeem, Abdul Hamid Abbasi, Yusuf Rajput, Shakil Aziz and others said that the stock market situation was evident to the government.

They said the government invested Rs 20 billion to stabilise the main index that proved futile and another investment of Rs 30 billion was likely to meet the same fate. more

Buyout MD sees a sunlit Uplands

INDEPENDENT in-car entertainment and mobile communication company Uplands Mobiles has changed hands in a management buyout.

The Swansea-headquartered company, which has branches in Cardiff and England's West Country, has been taken over by its managing director, Paul Hooper.

The buyout, on undisclosed terms, was arranged with the help of Cardiff-based advisers Adrian Godfrey of HW Corporate Finance (HWCF) and Chris Inson of Capital Law.

Formed nearly 30 years ago, Uplands has grown to become a UK leader in the provision of mobile multimedia equipment and services for the home, office, car, commerce and industry, specialising in communications and entertainment, navigation, telematics, security and tracking.

The company, which employs 50 people and also operates six independent e-commerce sites and a contact centre in Swansea, has sold more than 750,000 phones. more

Economy Starts To Sink Florida Boating Industry

Bob Toney is the CEO of National Liquidators, the nation's largest marine repossession company. He's a boat repo man. At his company's docks in Fort Lauderdale, boats are everywhere.

"You have six docks that are probably 400 feet long. And [at] most of them, we have them double-stacked and triple-stacked deep. You've got several hundred boats in the water just right here," Toney says.

Toney's company has tripled in size over the last two years. His company repossesses most of the boats at auction, and despite the slow economy, he says sales are brisk. One reason: the weak U.S. dollar. Nearly two-thirds of the boats he repossesses are sold and exported to buyers overseas.

AN ECLECTIC mix of business people, including bookkeepers, boarding kennel operators, web designers, energy efficient building designers, a camper trailer supplier and a Christmas pudding maker, were among participants at Cardinia Shire Council�s first speed networking event on Tuesday 15 July.

The event, in which local business people swapped tips and promoted their products in a fast and fun environment, was held at the Cardinia Cultural Centre on Tuesday 15 July.

Cardinia Shire Council Business Development Officer Phil Jackson said speed networking was an effective and entertaining way to build business relationships.

Speed networking involves businesses meeting potential customers, suppliers and key contacts.

Cardinia speed networking participants were given just four minutes to promote products and exchange business cards before moving on to the next contact. more

Resolved Question: What can I do to be more successful?

I'm 21 and about to graduate in a year with a business degree. I still don't have a job OR an internship, and I've been applying and searching everywhere. I may go to law school or get my masters in business but I'm not quite sure what I will do because I need to see how things turn out. However, I see some people around my age 21-26 who make at least 6 figure salaries and didn't even graduate college. They are in real estate or some type of business that they created themselves (clothing, online, etc...) I know HOW they do it...some luck, hard work, good networks, "street" smarts, etc...but what can I do to be more like it? How can I be more like them? I feel like I am still a naive kid not knowing how to make something of myself. What can I do to be more successful? What should I do with myself? more

So, Im working on my bachelor degree in business marketing. I figured that it is a good basic degree that can be used for a lot of different things. I can open a business myself, I can work in marketing, public relations, real estate...etc. Right after I get my bachelor degree I plan on going right into my masters which will be in film. I am so passionate about film, and I LOVE writing. So, I plan on trying to get into the film industry somehow by writing, but in the meantime I would like to teach marketing and film in a community/junior college. I think that it would be a lot of fun, and also let me have most of my summer off, and still make decent money. How does this sound?? Also, I have about two years left until I finish my bachelor degree. Im having a baby next year, and wanted to be home during the first year, so my bachelor degree is being finished online.
