Lakeville selectmen divided on business zoning plan
The proposal, which is scheduled to appear on a fall special town meeting, would add small scale businesses in otherwise residential zones to support nearby residents. The areas being considered for the zone include Main and Bedford streets.
Reacting to the Master Plan Subcommittee's review of the plan, Selectwoman Nancy Yeatts said she opposes it.
“More and more as I look at this, I don't like it," she said. “We've been designing where we want our businesses to be. I don't want to take away this town's rural character. This could lead to small businesses all over town."
Selectman Derek Maksy said that is why small areas are being targeted to begin with. Town administrator Rita Garbitt said the feeling is this move would keep the town's rural character as the demand for business properties increases. more

A packed council chamber heard testimony on Wednesday from 79 residents, business owners and environmental advocates. The speakers were split 50-50 between project supporters and opponents.
The hearing broached the subject of price. Robert Liberty, a Metro councilor who's opposed various Columbia River Crossing proposals, noted that Oregon and Washington could contribute as much as a combined $1.5 billion toward the project.
"My concern is that we're taking a very big gamble on a very, very expensive project," he said.
Adams responded that State Sen. Rick Metsger (D-Welches) is working on a funding plan that would likely apply increased gas taxes toward the project.
Liberty added that Portland and other jurisdictions should devise alternative plans. more

For as long as there are celebrities and as long as there are media, the paparazzi marketplace will be a booming business. The question prompted Frank Griffin, CEO & Partner, Bauer-Griffin, to wring his hands, exclaiming: "We're all whores! We're all whores making the money!" (Ed. note: prompting the biggest response of the day.)

Resolved Question: Indian students studying in US or UK for MBA degree???Pls advise on which b school to choose?
Hi,..I've heard till now that no universities take fresh graduates for MBA.Are there any exceptions? I am doing my grad in BBA,Bachelor of Business Administration and going to start my 5th sem, i.e: 3rd year.I'd topped in the 1st year with 9.2 CGPA (out of 10). Pls tell me anything of help...like good universities, not just rankings, but environment & culture...I would really appreciate if some Indians who are already studying abroad could tell me about how suitable the place is. If you can tell me any details or tips about GMAT, pls do...as any info can be helpful. I'm very confused, with all sorts of stuff. Is there any chance that a good university would take freshers without work experience? If then, what are the job prospects and course details? What would be most suitable? What's the best way to contact students already studying there and ask them directly?? PS:I'm a 20 yr old Indian gal and I want to do MBA in HR. moreResolved Question: Would you mind taking a look at my accounting internship resume+cover letter?

Cover letter -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear -----, I am applying for the *** internship of your company. I understand that your firm is the leading export of Accounting in the United States. I am very interested in developing my skills in this field and would like to work for your company through a summer internship. I graduated Gyeonggi Buk Science High School which is one of special-purpose public school for students interested in science. I graduated and got accepted to KAIST which is highly competitive university. Even though I putted myself in the scientific field, I was always interested in business field and selected Industrial Engineering as my major. I have just finished my third semester, in the course of which I became deeply interested in Financial Management. I’ve done research about CPAs and I decided to be an accountant. I am preparing for CPA exam and I have very high arithmetic skill and have an analytical & systematic way of thinking. I am also multi-cultural and can easily adapt with people from different culture. I have been stuck to academic environment for a long time and I am very excited to taste the professionalism in real life. I am willing to work hard and work as a team in any environment. I will be leaving for LA next week and would be ready for an interview. I will respond promptly with any additional materials you may need and would welcome the opportunity to further discuss my qualifications. Please feel free to contact me through email at annietabio@yahoo.com Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Annie Han Okay. I have never done this kind of thing and this is my very first resume & cover letter. If you want to rephrase any grammer error, misplacement or awkward sentence, you are more than welcome! But most importantly, since I leave next week, I can't send this to America. It would take weeks. Anyway I got the Big4's E-mail and career website. But, don't I need to send them a high school diploma or the evidence that I am attending college? Also, typical cover letter includes signature. So should I 'print->sign->scan->signed cover letter'? Thank you in advance. :) moreVoting Question: Should I attend Fordham University CBA or Boston University SMG?
OK...so here's the deal. I've been accepted to both Fordham University's College of Business Administration and Boston University's School of Management. I've done extensive research about both universities, and found that it basically boils down to this: - I've visited both campuses, and like BU's better because of its urban feel. At Fordham I can only stay at the Rose Hill Campus in the Bronx because that's where the CBA is. - Fordham is ranked slightly higher according to Businessweek (It is 27th, as opposed to Boston University's place at 42nd) - BU seems to have a more diverse population. Maybe due to the fact that it is a Jesuit institution, Fordham seems to attract a very similar pool of students. - As of last year, graduates from BU's median salaries slightly were lower than those of Fordham's. - Fordham's strengths seem to lie in its Finance and Accounting divisions...I'm not sure if that's what I want to do. I don't really know how strong other business majors are there. They may be really strong too...I just don't know it. BU also has strong Finance and Accounting divisions, but is also strong in Management. - According to Businessweek, BU has a grade of "C" in Job Placement of Students, whereas Fordham has a "B". These grades reflect job placement during the recession of last year though. _________________________________________ I think I would like the environment of BU better, but I worry about whether its lower rankings will hinder me in my future job hunt/salary potential. The statistics I posted are just averages, every individual person's situation is probably different..so I dont know if I should base my whole college decision on them. I mean...who's to say that BU couldn't overtake Fordham in the rankings in a year? But, the fact of the matter is...as of now, Fordham seems to be the higher ranked choice. Howeverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE TO GO TO!! I'M SO CONFUSED! I NEED SOME OBJECTIVE ADVICE PLEASEEEEEEEEE! moreResolved Question: Should I go to University of Pennsylvania?
I am considering three colleges now: Arizona State University, Georgia Tech, and University of Pennsylvania. Here is what I think of the schools: ASU is the cheapest and would give decent academics and research opportunities. Georgia Tech is about halfway in price between ASU and UPenn and would definitely have great academics for my major, Biomedical Engineering (it's ranked #3) as well as great research and job opportunities; however, it is tied in business school rankings with ASU (I want to eventually start an engineering business someday). UPenn costs about twice as much as Georgia Tech (though I have not received a financial offer from them) and is slightly lower ranked in Biomedical Engineering (#6/7), but has the top business school in the nation (which I might be able to get a major in if I go there). If it were between these three, and financing the education was not a problem, I'd go to UPenn because I believe that it would have the best connections for jobs after I graduate (and I might not need to go to grad school if I get a major in the engineering and business school). But Georgia Tech is slightly more viable financially and I would get a better engineering education but a worse business education (which may mean grad school). ASU is very cheap; which is it's major benefit (but I would definitely go to grad school after ASU). So where do you think I should go? moreVoting Question: Is this letter acceptable to send to a school system?
I am former student at **** High School, successful business owner in town, and published author. According to the United States of America Constitution, my first amendment is freedom of speech. I encourage you to read this letter through the end. Within the past 2 years, I have been bothered by the idea of the poor educational system in ****. **** elementary and middle schools seem to operate smoothly, except **** High School. I must say, the High School was the worst four years of my life. Teachers hustling here and there, overcrowded workloads, and how could we leave out the awful administration. I understand that each school system must have an administrative team and enforce rules however; the current conditions at the High School are unbearable for students. Getting more focused within my letter, I will focus my attention on the administrative staff at **** High School. Your office clerk, ****, is absolute nightmare to talk to. Her goody too shoo attitude is a turnoff to all. In fact, when I was in high school, about 2 weeks prior to graduating, she raised her voice to me. Remarks like I should not graduate because I could not read the 2 inch by 2 inch note card on the overcrowded office door are no ways to treat your students. My action taken was to send my parents down to yell back. I should have called a meeting between her and the town officials. I have never been so embarrassed in my life, where so many people and fellow graduating class heard me. I strongly believe that by having Kathy around in the office hurts the whole school system as a whole. Strongly consider he credentials and consider moving someone more professional and more caring into that position. Also her weight is not healthy for the amount of yelling she does. Excessive weight and yelling leads to high blood pressure which leads to heart stress, which leads to heart attacks. As I wish this doesn’t happen to anyone, I strongly consider taking the stress off **** and giving it to someone else who is fit for the job. Nothing tops the time when the principal would forget the pledge of allegiance over the morning intercom… how unprofessional of the school. Nothing yells failure like forgetting your countries own pledge. Your intercom system is a bit soft in some rooms. I suggest making them a bit louder. Bullying among other students was a huge part of daily life in **** High School for me. I was always being picked on. Day in and day out, I had to endure comments that would hurt my reputation and potential future for business. I should have sought legal help for issues involving my reputation as I work very hard to keep my reputation strong. As teachers heard the comments being made, nothing was done about it until I took action in the office. Turning the kids into the office did nothing for them. Suspension? Sure kick them out of school, where were the police. I had my backpack and social security number stolen and passed around the cafeteria??? I have seen several teachers hurt by specific people mentioned in this letter. The apple does not fall to far from the tree. With the administrative department in power, I feel that **** High School will always be a complete failure. It will take a long time to re-build the reputation that has been lost in my eyes from the educational system. Let me suggest some areas to work on to improve your rankings within the community. •You could turn up the loud speaker, so everyone can hear it. Some students in your school are hearing impaired. Don’t you think that you should make your school good to all students and not just the ones who are fine. •You could remove the unnecessary workers from the office. **** especially. No one wants to deal with her on a daily basis. Rude, impolite, and stuck-up spells disaster all over her office desk. •You could stop being so strict on your policies. Some more than others. Parking, no need for overpriced, retarded parking places. These are high school students, not CEO’s making a million dollars a year. Lower the price or do away with the parking permits. •Be more giving on your late policy. Car accidents, sickness, and family issues, etc. are unpredictable. If I recall right, **** just hands out detentions like she’s giving tampons to an audience of young ladies. “One to everyone will cure everything.” I mean, are you serious? Such a bad way to run a school system!!! •If kids have a problem, raise their voices at staff, don’t follow the dress codes, etc, just simply give them a warning. That’s all, if the problem consists, the do something about it. Students may start to complain that they feel like they are in boot camp. I don’t blame them. •Many more issues can be seen throughout the school. Why be so harsh to these kids? Maybe it will give you something to think about. In 2010, I plan on writing my second book published by a well known agency, sellable in Barnes and Noble, Borders, Am moreResolved Question: Does it really matter what your school is ranked?
I attend Bentley University, #30 business school in the nation. I would like to go to Harvard Business Schoolor another top tier school for my MBA after I graduate sometime. For top Graduate Business schools, how much does it matter where you went to school? Is #30th good enough to get me into one of these school granted I have the experience and grades. If I can, should I consider transfering to a school that is higher on the rankings? I'm just wondering that even though my school is fairly prestigious, is moving up a little higher going to make a big difference? Thanks moreResolved Question: If I get in Stanford's undergrad, will I have a better chance of getting in the graduate program?
Stanford has been my dream school since my Freshmen year.. I want to major in business but I just heard that Stanford's undergrad programs aren't even that good. They focus more on Graduates. is that true? I don't see Stanford (or Harvard or Yale or Duke or Princeton) in the business undergrad program rankings on US weekly. but Stanford's business grad program is like AMAZING GOOD if I still go to Stanford as an undergrad, will I have a good chance of getting in their graduate program? moreResolved Question: [Desparate] I am in between Brandeis and Babson college... For GSB in future, which one to go?
Now, I asked same question already.. but it seems like I should give more details. I am incoming freshman. I have ambitions for Graduate School of Business. I am targetting Chicago/Harvard after graduating from undergrad. (I was rejected from these schools for undergrad) I am hell bent on going to GBS Looking at money granted, and school rankings, edu quality, it pretty much boiled down to 2 undergrad schools: Brandeis U, and Babson Business. If I go to Brandeis, I am thinking of majoring in Math and Econ b/c they have strong econ and math, and I really like both. (and good at it). If I go to Babson, which is one of good business school with 10% admission rate, I will likely to major in Econ and Entrepreneurship (Babson is #1 Entrep for 12 consecutive years followed by Harvard and Stanford in this criteria) Now both schools have pros and cons. But I would like to focus on the advantages that I would get in terms of going to GBS Harvard or Chicago, assuming I did equally good job for 4 years in two schools. I could take classes at each no matter where I go since they are very close by. I hear I should go to Liberal Arts Brandeis U to open myself to opportunities... But if I am hell bent on going to top GBS, wouldnt it be better idea to get Business Degree on top Entrepreneurship in US? But all things considered, one of econ prof at Brandeis told me GBS actually prefer students with lib arts degree, and that I should learn how to read and write at lib arts college first to become more well rounded person to succeed in life. Hey People! I am going to graduate from high school in june and have just got accepted in both University of Exeter and Brunel University for Business & Management. I know Exeter U is much better in term of education than Brunel, but I have heard that it is a very small town with not much to do in terms of entertainment (clubs, bars, recreation, shopping...). Brunel is far behind in education rankings and student satisfaction rankings but I heard their is lots to do their. Is Exeter's entertainment facilities that bad that the education should be overlooked? Is Brunel's Business course not as bad as people say it is? I am totally confused as I will be spending 4 years at my chosen university and I want to have a good education but also some fun. I have never been to any of the universities myself and will not be able to do so (I live in HK, busy with the IB Diploma). Your experiences and opinions will be appreciated.
