Rash of Burglaries Concerns Owners

Pervin's store, the Traveled Treasure and Hunt's pharmacy were two of the businesses broken into last week.

After leaving her store, the suspect went to the pharmacy. "He took apart the lock- went in- there's nothing there. It�s a pharmacy but the pharmacy was locked up. The alarm went off and he took off,� says Pervin. She's relieved the only things taken were replaceable and not a life.

"Again I just feel real fortunate that that's all he did, nobody was hurt," says Pervin. Right next door is Grandma's Kitchen owned by Jeremy Shulze.

He says even though he's between two stores that were broken into, he feels safe.

Shulze jokes the only thing burglars could steal from his place is pancake batter but quickly points out that businesses should keep an eye out for each other. more

Charlotte home prices dip slightly in May The Business Journal of

The value of single-family homes in Charlotte dipped 0.2 percent for the year ending in May, according to the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index. It is the second consecutive month the Queen City has seen a drop in the sales price of existing homes. In April, prices fell 0.1 percent.

Since January, Charlotte had been the only city to see monthly gains from a year earlier in the 20 metropolitan markets the index tracks.

Despite the drop in May, Charlotte's home market remained the strongest in the index. The next smallest price decline was in Dallas, which posted a 3.1 percent drop.

Nationally, home prices declined 15.8 percent for the year ending in May. Las Vegas and Miami were the weakest markets in the index. Las Vegas saw a 28.4 percent drop, and Miami fell 28.3 percent. more

Maharashtra inquiry into Subhiksha stores

The Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies and Drug Administration, Mr Baba Siddiqui, told Business Line that there was no ban on Subhiksha stores.

An inquiry is already pending with the FDA Commissioner which would be completed in 10 days time, he said.

Reacting to the development, Mr Mohit Khattar, President-Marketing, Subhiksha, said: "No notice of suspension or cancellation has been served against any Subhiksha outlet and all media reports in this regard are completely inaccurate."

Let's face it, donors, trade unions and businesses effectively "buy" our top three political parties these days. We have ever more complex ways of recording such donations, and "gifts" – but there is no doubt that such contributions are intended to buy influence and to alter a party's political stance.Therefore, why not turn the major political parties into companies that we can buy shares in? Then, at least, we can see a share price going up and down, and people buying shares can be identified. We might not, then, need opinion polls! We could simply check the party's stock market rating. At the moment the Labour Party would probably be trying to implement a desperate rights issue!The major parties, which could perhaps be defined by the Electoral Commission as the top 10 (or so) parties that actively campaign, could be allowed to become political "companies" listed on the stock market. more

Business groups unhappy with Pa. budget, again

But state business groups argue that the business tax reforms most needed to make the state more competitive are missing again.

Under the budget, Pennsylvania's cap on net operating-loss carryforwards won't disappear, the corporate net income tax (CNI) at 9.99 percent will remain the second highest rate in the country and the creation of a single sales factor apportionment formula for the CNI tax won't happen.

"I think the business community is disappointed that Pennsylvania didn't do that, even with having some budget surpluses the past couple of years," said Clark L. Shuster, president of the Lower Bucks Chamber of Commerce.

Without those changes Pennsylvania will continue to lose out on jobs, wealth and economic growth, said members of CompetePA, a coalition of more than 120 businesses and organizations in Pennsylvania that have fought for the changes since 2005 . more

Open Question: Math Major, trouble deciding what I want to do!! Help Please!!!!?

I am in my 4th year of Undergrad and currently hold an Associates of Science in Business and Information Systems. I have become a math major after deciding that that was the one subject that made sense to me and that I understand! Don't get me wrong, I still have difficulty in some classes, but not to the extent that i don't think I can finish out the course or move one. So I have 2-3 more semesters left and I am not really sure what I want to do when I get done. I do know I want to go to Grad school, just not right away...not after being in school for 5 1/2 years (12 hours a semester) with no break. So I am hoping that someone who is working in a profession that i would qualify for or that has knowledge of this field can help me to come up with some ideas of things to do. I don't really know if I want to teach. Maybe as a part time job, but definitely not full time. I need to be challenged. On top of that, there aren't many teachers/advisers at the school to talk to about it with. Please help.. I would love any advice that someone could give! I finished highschool a year ago. Back when i was in highschool i had private lessons with my sociology lessons since nobody wanted to take that course except for me (others took a business course) anyways, me and that teacher had se.xul tension...he liked me and I liked him...we were majorly flirting and he always paid me compliments etc....and than it got pretty ugly (the principal knew the jist of it) Anyway, i have my principal on facebook, and he recently posted school pics...over 100 and on one of the pics, my sociology teacher was on it (he still teaches at that school btw)...so I decided to comment exactly like this, "Remembering our sociology lessons........................................ good guy :)" Do you think this sounds fishy? should i take the comment down? a lot of teachers are on my principal's friends list and students...and this sociology teacher still teaches at that school....what are you opinions? does it sound provocative or the comment can be taken either way? more

Open Question: Verbally Abusive Sisters. What To Do?

Ever since I've was a little child, my sisters always made fun of me. To this day, they still do. Whenever I come home from school It's always critisim and words that tear me apart. I don't know what to do at this point. I had my friend over a couple weeks ago and when she saw what my family was doing to me she told me that I had verbally abusive sisters. For Example: I had to switch to my sisters school for money reasons. The first week I was claimed to be abusive. Heres the story. My sister and I were eating dinner when all of a sudden her friend came over. Minding my own business I went to sit in the other room. Well my sister and her friend came over and started to make fun of me for what I was wearing, saying I was fat, and needed to look at this magazine (for maternity women). My reponse was what my mom told me to say to get my sisters away from me "can you go away, I'm trying to eat,) Well thats when the fight happened. They started mocking me and repeating insults. So I said F-U and walked ran to my room. The next day my sister and her friend went to the consulers officer and I was called in. She twisted the story to where I was insulting her and wouldnt go away. Because of my sister I had to leave school early, was said to be abusive on my first week of a new school I can't ride with my sister anymore because she hates me so much that when we drive to school she'll drop me off in my neighborhood and then drive to school, Saying get the F**K OUT OF MY CAR. I always get called: prego, large forehead girl, fatass, dumbass, ugly, pregnant, fatty.. etc its never ending And like today i came home and two of my sisters ganged up saying: When are you do? Are you having twins? This is why everyone in the family has a boyfriend but you. Then they said well your just cursed you have shitty brunette hair, fat, large forhead, moles on your face, and chicken legs, I don't know what to do anymore. Everyday its an insult and its tearing me apart. My mom wont do anything and the school thinks im abusive. I just really want this to stop. Somedays i just wish i would die. Yeah and you think that siblings are soposed to fight, but no its nothing like that. not when everyday of your life you wanna die because all your sisters do is make fun of you.. Please! PLEASE! if you know of anything i can do then please answer. I dont have any relatives over here.My mom always tells me she doesnt have time, she never does anything because their her favorite kids. and i dont have a dad. more

Open Question: Do my boyfriends family have the right to get into my business?

I get the whole getting into my boyfriend and mine relationship. But enough is enough. I get the whole worried thing. My family gets worried about me for everything. Family will always watch over their daughter or son/brother or sister/so on. My boyfriend and his family aren't close like my family and I. Each family is different with their bonds they form. His family is overly judgmental of me, my family (and even my boyfriend) They say their open minded but they really aren't. His sister has blamed me for everything then made excuses for some of those blames likes my kids pee'd the bed, or I am PMSing etc. I have stood up for myself on my actions like I always do with any situation. She's gotten into my business with my family, my finances and my past--She said I have the right to know because your dating my brother. She's cursed and yelled at me up and down. She's made rude and inappropriate comments to me, and about me. She has done the same stuff to her own family. His mom has gotten into my business, told her it isn't her concern and she basically said I am so closed off. She's called me aggressive. Whenever she calls my boyfriend over, my boyfriend asks can my girlfriend come and she said no just you everytime. I've seen them 5 times plus one on Tuesday. His dad and brother are okay. I am polite, patient, respectful, considerate, and honest with them. I try and talk with them about light hearted stuff like weather, our day, likes and vacations. But they seem to think they need to know my business. I shouldn't have told them some or answered their serious topics and I wouldn't anymore. School and work are all they talk about its kind of annoying--They ask me the same questions. What are you majoring in? When will you be done? etc. School and work are important to me, not saying that. But theres more then that to get to know someone without getting into their business.My boyfriend doesn't care what they think about me. My boyfriend and I love, respect, accept, understand, trust, believe in, communicate, and compromise with each other. We have ups and down but all couples do. My family adores us together. My family says my boyfriend and I compliment each other well. My boyfriend has stood up for me a few times with his family.My boyfriend told me his parents did the same thing to my boyfriends sisters husband. more

Open Question: How can I, or should I make my ex friend my friend again?

I had a friend. We've been friends for about 5 years now, but she is a user. What I mean by that is, she always wants someone to drive her around all over the place, and always needs somebody to pay for her when she goes out, and her best friend is always the person who is doing the most for her (at the moment). She will go out of her way for men though. She gets welfare and will give her boyfriends money and buy them things with that money that is meant for her son, but when she is broke, the men will have sex with her and not even make sure she gets food! Recently, one of her main men got locked up. She got on the train to go out of her way to go see that man twice in one week. But then when she needed to go to the doctor to get forms for her son's school she kept callin and pressing me to come pick her up and take her to do that. I got irritated with her priority organization so I told her very bluntly how I felt...I told her she needs to get on the train and go take care of her son's business before she goes to see a man! We had our words and we haven't spoken since. That was about a month ago. I am kind of feeling like maybe I was wrong. Was I? Should I reach out to her, or just leave her alone? more

Open Question: Female Advice Please(Dating Question)?

Hey, this is sort of a long one, so stick with me please! Basically, I am completely stumped on how I should handle this situation. I'll try and be as brief as I possibly can. Basically, I go to a community college. And there is this girl who works behind the counter at the student service center, at the time I didn't know her, I just knew she was really beautiful. Eventually I worked up the courage and introduced myself to her. She turned out to be pretty friendly. Over the next month I would occasionally drop in every once in a while, say hi, pretty much small talk. It was somewhat awkward, always talking to her while she was at work, but that was the only time I ever saw her. Eventually, one day I went to see her, and I asked if she would like to go out sometime, and she said yes. I was stoked. So I asked when, and her answer was, "well things are pretty busy with finals right now, how bout after the break?" So I said sure, I was bummed I would have to wait, but stoked I got a yes. So I waited during the break. When the school session returned a couple weeks later, I brought it up to her, and this is how it went down. She said "what were you expecting out of this?" I was confused. She asked again. I told her I really liked talking to her, but it was always while she was working, and I'd really like to get to know her, and see where it went from there. That's when she said she was really sorry, but that she just didn't have time for anyone new. She explained how she's busy with work and how she's trying to concentrate really hard on school. She said she had just gotten out of a pretty bad relationship and things were just tough on her in general at the moment etc etc stuff like that. She said she was really sorry, but she just didn't have time. I told her I understood, so I figured that was that. I was understandably upset, but I figured with time I would get over it. What I want to know is, though. Based on what I said, does it seem as if she was ever genuinely interested? If she never wanted to go out in the first place, why didn't she just say no to begin with? Why say yes at all...unless she actually meant it, right? Also, she seemed genuinely sorry and felt bad. She didn't OWE me a big explanation like what she gave me. so????? So like I said, eventually I'd get over her, I would just move on. So I stopped visiting her, if I saw her walking my direction I would just keep walking. She would see me obviously, but I'd just keep walking. Really, I'm not into that phony small talk business, so I didn't really feel like talking to her at all. About a month passed by, and one day at school I was sitting on one of the benches before class, when she approaches me and sits down to talk to me. Not about what happened, but just to talk. She ended up talking with me for about a good 40 min until I had to go to class. And the following week, same thing. Why would she be doing that if she clearly told me she doesn't have time for me? Wasn't I doing her a favor by not talking to her. Isn't that what she wanted? It's making it hard to get over her when she keeps talking to me now, I guess I just don't really understand.thanks, and can't say I didn't warn you. And say she is interested in me, i've technically had to ask her out twice already. I don't know if I have it in me to ask a THIRD time. She's a tough person to read, I don't understand her. At the same time, she is really friendly and funny, and just nice to talk with. more

Open Question: Everyone said I was wrong for calling 911?

A while back I was at a dance/party held by my highschool (I'm in my final year) and a lot of people like to drink at them and sneak in, (duh, they're teens). Well as I was leaving, I noticed a guy stumbling around then getting in his car. He was clearly drunk, so I did what I was always told to do - call the police. So I called and said "Yeah, there's an 18yr male, driving in a blue corolla down ___st and I think he's drunk" They pulled him over, found lq on his breath, arrested him and charged him with a DUI and something else. My blabbermouth "best friend" told everyone it was me who called the police and everyone has a serious hate for me. The guy was like the "star" basketball player and he was kicked off the team and suspended from school. Everyone told me that it wasn't even my business to be calling the cops, and I asked on here in the adolescent section and they all even said it was none of my business .. but I'm just thinking, if I had of stayed out of it - someone could have gotten killed, right ? What do you think, parents .. I have a feeling you guys are more mature. more

I am a 16 year old male who comes from a small town you've never heard of. I see myself to be in pretty good physical shape. I play am currently and active Boyscout, and just recently obtained my Eagle rank. I think of myself to be a very individual person, I am a good problem solver, and I like to be creative. I am an Honors student in High School, playing a Varsity sport. I love to have adventures and do things I've never done before. I don't have any idea of what I want to do when I am older, but feel if I join the military, it will give me opportunities to find out what I can really do. So, I have a lot of questions about joining both branches, and I was wondering the following: 1)Once you are in the National Guard, can you be transferred to another branch of service? 2)Do the soldiers in the National Guard fight in the front line of duty (parental question) 3) Will basic training give me some sort of idea of what kind of job I want in the Guard? 4) Can you request to be with someone you know (Me and a friend of the same age want to join and serve in the same unit, is this possible?) 5) How long is basic training? (Army and Guard) 6) What are the pro's and con's of joining before college, and after college? 7) Does the Guard do more work in the U.S.A. Or more out of country business? 8) How long does it usually take to become active? 9) What physical expectations are there in the Guard compared to the Army? 10) My parents think that this is just a phase, and i'll be over it in a while. How can I convince them otherwise? 11) Do you have to have prior gun experience? (gun license?) 12) I don't necessarily want to be in the line of fire, but if I had to I would. Are there any positions that do not involve being the first line of infantry, but are behind those? Basically I'm looking for a job that somebody that still doesn't have a college degree can do. I'll be a receptionist, secretary, mailgirl, whatever. I'll intern, job shadow or even volunteer. I just want to get my feet wet now. It will not only help me in my acceptance into a law school, but also my career as well. Currently, I work at a restaurant, and I just want to get out of that business. So I looked up the names of a few of the biggest law firms in my area and today I want to personally out there and try to get a job. Ideally it would be a paying one, but I guess if worst comes to worst, it doesn't have to be. My Question though is: What do I do when I first enter the building/room? Who do I talk to? Who do I ask to see? Is there a specific section that deals with this stuff? Should I insist on talking to whoever does the hiring, so I can give him/her my resume personally? Okay, My mom has always been dependent on other people and her boyfriend is a complete control freak, soon I will be eighteen and able to move out and I think I should. For a whole week she cried to me and asked for my advice in a "friend" way when her boyfriend wanted to kick us out. Then he told her she could stay if she started cracking down on HER kids and possibly made me move in with my 70 something great grandmother. Now she is only flipping out on me and being hard on me for basically no reason. She demeans me and tells me I have no goals in life when this week I'm getting my permit and applying for a job and plan to go to school for business management. I've never rebelled, never partied, I don't do drugs. I think I've been a damn good kid compared to the rest of teens these days. I just don't know what to do. When she wants something she acts real nice to me and talks to me like we are friends and as soon as I tell her I couldn't get what she asked for freaks out and treats me like complete crap. All my life I've watched her kids and gave her money when she needed it and I get nothing but horrible treatment in return. I try talking to her but she just manipulates the situation and somehow twists it to be my fault and freaks out, when it's definately not. Idk if you can help offer some input that'd be great. more

Open Question: Teenager messed up relationship. How Do I fix it?

I'm 16. I met this girl who had a boyfriend. We became close as friends and then developed feelings for each other. She broke up with him because he was cheating on her. I took the chance and asked her out. We recently started going out. When me and her started out, everyone wanna be in our business. People telling me that she was doing this, doing that, and it was getting to me, little by little. Then one of my friends started an argument with her in public and I grabbed her and covered her mouth. She didn't like that too much. She felt like I didn't stand up for her and I just let my friend embarrassed her in public. That hurt the relationship a little. What really cracked the ice was today. All my friends was telling me that she was talking to her ex boyfriend still. I was already in a wrong mood. I was tired, stressed, etc. All those comments got to me and made me enraged. So, I entered my next class, and I text her. I told her to lose my number. Then I told her somethings I regret saying like accusing her of still talking to her ex and other things. She was like "I'm Done." I realized what I did and I went to find her to apologize and explain myself. She wouldn't even talk to me. I asked her for 5 minutes and she wouldn't even give me that. My bestfriend tried to fix things by texting her and saying that i'm sorry and whatnot. He messed that up by saying that I Love Her...But me and her haven't been going out that long for me to say that. Things got worst when I tried one more time to talk to her on our after school class break. I tried to talk to her but she wouldn't let me. She went to the girl's bathroom. I don't know what made me do this but, I walked in. She called me crazy and then like a whole bunch of females walked in. I walked out embarrassed. When my after school classes was over. Me and my best friend started to walk home like we usually do and then I saw her. I acted like she wasn't there. Then this girl was talking to her and she made me and her look at each other. I told her that I'm sorry and whatever but she wasn't hearing it. So I just said forget it and walked home. I couldn't get this girl out of my head. I went home...She was on myspace. I wrote her an apology and she told me to call her. I called her and she said she forgiven me. Then she said that "I'm tired of relationships." I told her that i'll do everything in my power to try to make things work. She said "No". Then she told me that "Maybe. We should just stay friends. Our relationship was closer as friends to me." I said that "I like you too much to be friends. Us being just friends would be too awkward." She said that we wasn't friends I guess. She said that I was a great person but it just wouldn't work out. "You didn't act like a boyfriend" was what she basically told me next. I didn't stood up for her and that I let people just do whatever because I'm too nice. this is long, sorry, but i reallllly need help!! i am so sick of my mom. she screwed up her life because of my dumb dad, but its her fault for marrying a cheating abusive manwhore!!! she knew it but was stupid enough to stay with him for 22 years. and yes they have been divorced for quite a few years now thankfully but i dont know whats wrong with her!! she is always hiding things from me. she supposedly "goes to the doctor" and then will be like, "IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!" and also she drinks so much wine because she "needs it because of dad." and when she gets mad she says, "im gonna die in like 2 years anyway!! bla bla blah!" and she says shes sooo happy and stuff but she is NOT. I am itching to move to Maine and start a nice, quiet, beautiful life. I don't plan on building a family ANY time soon. I want to move to Maine, near the coast. I am a musician and painter, and I figure I want to own my own business selling my art and performing in the communities surrounding where I live, depending on whether or not they have coffee shops I guess. I understand that it will not be a luxurious life, and that I may not ever make ends meet, and that is fine with me. I just want to be able to make and do what I want, and enjoy life. I am getting ready to start college, and I assume that getting a business degree will help me with my endeavour of owning my own business. Correct me if I am wrong, I really am completely lost concerning what to do in college. I was going to go to school for singing, and songwriting/arrangement, but Berklee College of Music is way too damn expensive, so I am only gonna go for this summer. Open Question: Can you really forgive and forget anything?

My parents divorced when I was about 6 years old. I have 1 older sister. I stayed with my dad, she stayed with our mom. Our mom was mad that I chose my dad over her and she made me feel it - she pretty basically had no contact with me since the divorce. My sister had no contact with me or my dad since the divorce - our mom just brainwashed her into thinking my dad and I are evil or whatever lies she told her. Anyway, about a year ago they came back into our lives - all of a sudden, out of the blue. They called my dad up out of the blue one night. It's a long story, so I'll just sum it up. They pretty much devised a scam to get us to "loan" them money. They said they were having legal problems and needed cash fast for a lawyer. So we "lent" them some money. When I say "some" I mean like $20,000. They said they would have the means and would pay us back within 6 months. We now found out they had no legal problems and didn't need a lawyer. They pretty basically just used the money to pay off credit card debts and go on vacation. Of course, they never paid the money back and never will. And they claim any "loan" between family is never a loan but a gift. My dad and I are not rich. When I found out about their scam (meaning I found evidence), I confronted them. They got very angry but didn't deny scamming us. At this point my dad was still helping my sister pay rent, her bills, etc. By the way, my sister is 35 years old - unmarried, no kids. When we found about their scam, he was upset and cut her off completely. She made a big scene and was very upset. And she wanted to get back at us for cutting her off, so she devised another plan. She made my dad's business almost bankrupt and she caused major problems for me at my school (I lost my scholarship). Through no fault of our own... she was just upset and being a b*tch and lied and cheated and scammed. And we paid the price. Should I forgive and forget? My sister I will never forgive and she will never be a part of my life ever again. But I can't help think that my mother is... my mother! You only have one mother! Open Question: Everyone! i need help on this really shy girl. okay i am also shy.?

I met this really shy girl named Anna at the beginning of the semester. She is in one of my classes, and she is really really shy. She rarely talks to people in my class; she would just sit in her seat and minds her own business. On the second day of the spring semester, I moved over to sit next to her with my friend because we hate sitting in back where we couldn't hear anything my professor says. I started talking to her with some very simple lines. it took a while for her to kind of open up to me and we start to have some really good small conversations other than just hey, how was the test yesterday or did you know how to do this problem. Anyway, over times, I found her really smart, relatively mature (at least in some aspects, maybe boys is not one of them) and unassumingly pretty. I would sometimes talk to her on the way to her next class. I remember one time when I was walking out of the classroom, I looked back, she saw me and we had a very brief eye contact. She smiled and blushed (maybe she is just really shy, I don't know), and my face was sort of burning as well. So I kind of like her and I want to ask her out maybe not as a date first, but as a friendly hanging out the first time. My roommate is a member of the orchestra of our university. They are going to have a classic music concert on April 6th. He invited me and all of other roommates to come and cheer for him. I also remember Anna told me she likes classic music because she plays violin. So I want to use that opportunity to ask her out for a friendly hanging out (not a date yet). So that is what I have in my mind. I have no idea on how well it will work, or whether or not it will work at all. I just want to get to know her a bit better. I'm currently a web designer and have B.A. in Business and A.A. in Web Media. No problem with static website(I know HTML, XHTML, CSS). But I'm planning going back to school to learn more marketable web development skills(Javascript, PHP, MySQL, AJAX, XML etc.) What major and degree should I choose? I know Master is better than Bachelor, but I don't really have programing experience. So Master in Computer Science or Engneering might be too hard for me....? Any suggestions are welcome :) more

I am traveling to Buffalo on business by car (my classic El Camino) and had decided to take along my EF (Emotional Friend, about 21, female, completely platonic) because my wife takes no interest in my life or career, hates my car, and didn't want to go. Anyway, we pulled into Albany last night for a pit stop, all bleary-eyed, and I almost had to choke the clerk at Motel 6 because he kept insisting my EF reserved the hot-tub room with one bed, though I had seen her go online and book a room with two beds. This one was $19.99 more, to boot. I figured he was scamming us, but I was tired and relented. Well, we got in the room and it appears my EF did some research. See, I'd told her a while back that she looked just like the petite blond who was my girlfriend in high school, in the 80s, the last girlfriend I'd had before my wife. Anyway, we entered the room, and there were helium balloons everywhere -- in blue and yellow, my high school team color! She walked over to an old boom box and popped in a cassette -- a cassette! -- Shannon's "Let the Music Play." How did she know that was the tape my high school girlfriend left behind (in the El Camino)? In the mini-fridge were Olde English 40-ouncers, like we used to drink in high school, before they became "ghetto." How sweet, considering I went to a high school not far from Albany. She must've bribed the clerk to set up the room like this. After a few OE's with the EF, I started losing a sense of reality, and was so caught up in the mood and music -- and by this time the EF was wearing my varsity jacket (how'd she get that out of my attic, and get rid of the mothball smell?) along with (her) Liz Claiborne perfume -- that I looked into her eyes and thought I was in 1988, and it was the summer before I left for college, and had left my girlfriend behind. And in that unreality the EF became that girlfriend. And our eyes locked, and a moment seemed like over 20 years, and an alternate reality followed from there ... And a different house, and different kids, barking dogs and a white picket fence and growing old together, happy. You ever get caught up in a moment like that?
