Review: HP iPAQ9 10 Scores For Business
For the handful of users not interested in the iPhone (whether for business reasons or a vanilla preference for good old Windows Mobile), HP is now shipping the HP iPAQ 910 Business Messenger. This is the smartphone for the serious business user.
The Test Center has looked at other members of the iPAQ family before. The 910 follows the other iPAQs in look and feel -- sleek, high-gloss black, and easy to hold. The fit and finish is of high quality and the 910 doesn't get very hot to touch, a very important criterion for a handheld device.
Measuring 4.5 x 2.5 x 0.6-inches and weighing 5.4 oz, the 910 is average size. Much slimmer than the Palm Treo, slimmer but wider than the new Centro, a little thicker and about an ounce heavier than the BlackBerry Bold, it's slightly thicker than the iPhone 3G. more
Rentokil says no current plan to break up business
L: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Friday it had no current plans to break up the business after issuing its fourth profit warning since December.
"The shareholders, in my view, would not be well placed if we were to break up the business," Chief Executive Alan Brown told reporters.
"It's not a good time to sell anything as far as I can see, unless you're into the fine art world.
"Secondly, the businesses themselves are running far below their potential and that again is not a good time to sell anything," he said on a conference call.
"We should first of all improve our business before we secondly look at the portfolio," Brown said, adding it could take three years to turn around some of the group's businesses.

Survey: German business confidence plunges
German business confidence sank last month on concerns over higher oil prices, slipping consumer spending and weakening exports, a survey showed Thursday.
The Munich-based Ifo institute's business climate index fell to 97.5 points in July from 101.2 points in June, a steeper decline than analysts had expected for the closely watched survey.
"In manufacturing the business climate index has fallen noticeably," Ifo president Hans-Werner Sinn said in a statement.
"Satisfaction with the current business situation has declined among the survey participants. They also anticipate weaker business in the coming six months," he said.
Sinn added that manufacturers believe that export expansion will slow and that businesses are leery of adding jobs. more

Open Question: Pregnant girlfriend, need a plan for college... and life in general.?
My girlfriend of 17 is pregnant. I just graduated high school and am currently taking a year off before college, basically waiting for her to graduate high school so we can go move together. But now she is pregnant. Neither of us have money to pay for college, so we are both going entirely off of loans. I am not going to settle for an OK job with and OK salary that I will sit in for 40 years and stay lower middle class, I am better than that. My father - top ten in a class of 600 - became a private school teacher for 38 years, he remains lower middle class, struggling with money, and they had me and my siblings three years after they were married. I fucked up my first two years of high school and came out with a 3.1 cumulative, act of 21, I am planning on attending Winona State University in MN. Now my main question is, what degree should I be looking at in college? Originally I was looking at a music business degree, as music is my passion, that was before we found out. We were planning on both of us getting degrees and jobs and then settling down for a family once finances and situations allowed. That changed a bit. I am going to be pulling the financial wagon. What would also be great would be some suggestions on a plan for what WE are going to do. Should I work my ass off blue-collar? Should I run with the 4 years and pray for a job? She also is going to go to college, no matter what, however, if we have a newborn child how could she do that? online courses are not an option - they make the most sense, but knowing my girlfriend, there is no way in hell she would do them religiously. She has an aunt that lives about an hour away from Winona. Also, most colleges require the student to live on campus at least one year, Winona is no exception. With a baby, that's really not possible for her, do colleges give leeway on situations as such?*Edit- I am planning on college and wondering about growing careers so that I can support a child. Neither of us are planning on running off and doing our own thing while leaving the baby behind. We were planning (after we found out) on me going to college and getting a degree while she took care of the baby, and then when I had a job that supported us, she get's her degree. Is blue-collar really the way to go when looking at the longterm? And I do have a job, I'm making about 20g a year right now, at 18, that's not going to be improving for a while, that's also not enough to support 3 people. moreOpen Question: Directing/Acting - A career in the entertainment industry. Is it legitimate with effort?
So for quite some time now ever since childhood and through my high school years, I've always had this burning passion for the arts (i.e. Acting, Directing, Writing, and Music/Dance), and I have plans for continuing my education in these fields onto college, but there is a catch. I've got those typical parents that want their child to be successful in the future, with admittance into a college/university and high paying job that requires a good education. I know all they want for me is to have a better life experience than they did, and that means so much to me, so that's why I've come here to inquire any information I can. When parents think of education, and a good career, it's likely that they are thinking law, medical, engineering, etc.. How can I prove to them, that my dream to pursue a career in the industry is also legitimate? I plan to put in all of the effort I can, and incorporate my creativity into my education, but will this career be stable to support myself? I understand that the income/salary of a director or an actor varies from just about nothing to fortunes, but will earning a degree in this field and making a career out of it be enough to live an average life at the bare minimum? Will there be a good probability that I would, at the very least, be able to find a career right away and make a living? I've usually always been quite optimistic about my future in the entertainment business, but looking at a lower case scenario at a realistic point of view, I just want to make sure that if I don't happen to go high with it, I'd be able to at least live decently. Oh and I'm currently a 16 year old going on my junior year in high school. I'm enrolled in drama, and my fourth year of French. Academic wise, I'm taking an AP English language class and the rest of the required classes. Just wanted to include this information for any miscellaneous reasons. moreOpen Question: Directing/Acting - A future career in the entertainment business? Is it efficient?

I would like to either go to an art/design school or major in business in college. I enjoy doing graphic design and would like to do that as a career but it pay too well. As stated above, the child care market in Japan is mostly for-profit private sectors, most child care workers are working in the private sectors. Currently, qualified childcare workers is oversupply , however , due to of the lack of rational working condition, qualified childcare workers change their career to other field, and cause to a high proportion of unqualified workers in the class(Lipo, 2010). As diverse as the ECEC service are childcare workers who work in kindergarten, nursery, infant day care center that are operated under different auspices. Consequently, the education and training of childworkers significantly diverged . Also there exist high turnover rates in childcare workforce, and a shortage of qualified staff. Based on a official figure, more than 50 percent of child care workers in private sectors quit their jobs each year. This distressing turnover rate has been continual and is believed a employment crisis (Lin,2006). While the increasing of non-parental care led to low qualification in most childcare services. Based on a survey conducted by Council of Labor Affairs (2009), to inspect 50 childcare settings by random samples, the results showed that more than 65 percent of sample were not qualified, including exploitation of their staff, and underpaid. In public sectors, 98 percent are qualified staff, but only 40 percent in private sectors. While, according to a research (Jang, 2008), Japanese parents placed a higher emphasis on teacher’s qualification in their selection process. moreResolved Question: chinese business visa and review my letter of invitation?

I am a senior and high school, and my goal in life is to one day be a CEO of my own company/brand. There are numerous business ideas that I have, in which I would like to put under that brand. However, with aspirations of going to college next year, I want to find a major that will help me have a stable job, and pay me well, to one day build my own company. I was researching this and found info on a CIO (Chief Info Officer). I had never heard of this before, but the salary is ridiculous. $170,000 as a base, and can go up to well over 200,000. WOW. So what does this job intel? Is there anyway I can be a CIO in the Sports world, presumably Professional Football? I AM THINKING OF STARTING MY OWN PARTY WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK OF THESE IDEALS WHICH ENCOMPASS THE BEST OF THE BEST FROM IDEAS AROUND THE WORLD? I am thinking of trying to create a party around this basis. Sure individuals must be regulated too but the average everyday person in America the little cleaning lady and the Wal Mart workers aren't having THEIR BEST interests served in America that's the PROBLEM. BASIS FOR ELECTING POLITICIANS: Politicians don't have the attitude that the average poor worker who makes 20 thousand a year is actually MY BOSS since they are the ones who voted me into office and our PAYING MY SALARY with their tax dollars. How can I serve MY BOSS(s) today to make their lives easier? Economy: If you look at countries that have a better economy now and (happier longer living people) Norway Sweden Finland Denmark whom have way more SOCIALISM in their economy compared to America but still incentives to WORK HARDER while at the same time keeping tight tabs on businesses and the wealthy ; Business of a LARGE size like 10 million or more in sales should be REQUIRED TO UNIONIZE like they are in Denmark no more of this Wal Mart low pay taxpayers take the social security tab nonsense anymore. You are allowed to make a profit but you will pay; In countries like Denmark though you need to pay a 90% tax if you are making millions (just as the wealthy were back in the 50s in America). Elected officials shouldn't represent someone who makes 100 million getting to keep 80 million why does anyone need that kind of money and why should you care? They can do with 10 and the other 90 million can be used for EDUCATION AND HEALTHCARE. Gun rights: Gun rights are a MUST to protect people, however training courses in the basics of firearms and why we have them should be TAUGHT IN HIGH SCHOOL as a required class by professionals using blanks and other safety mechanisms. Having an armed society is essential, but having an armed society that doesn't know the power of what they have is a disaster. An 18 YO with an 44 magnum not knowing how to use it is a recipe for a gun ACCIDENT and most gun accidents happen because the individual didn't KNOW how to properly use the gun. By the same token here in Montana there are few burglaries since people who are criminals are afraid of being shot as they should be if they are endangering someone's family, house or property. Healthcare: Everyone should be entitled to "reasonable healthcare" as they are entitled to "Reasonable food and shelter". This does not mean that if it costs 5 billion to save your life society should NOT have to spend that much of it's resources to save you sorry. IF however you are sick you should be taken care of even with HIV your getting help shouldn't be dependent on if you are POOR. At the same time healthcare needs a good dose of regulation - healthcare is in favor too much of doctors and PATENT HOLDERS. Much of what is paid goes to companies that invented a new medical device whom are getting EXCESSIVELY rewarded. The government should regulate how much companies can make off a medical patent so as to reward them for inventing something but making sure they aren't making 800% profit margins which happens now that's sick. Doctors especially rich ones who make over a million a year would need to have their salaries analyzed as to see how much they should JUSTLY be paid. This is just some of the things the party would represent I could go on forever but what do people think? moreVoting Question: What are the differences between MBA and EMBA?
What are the differences between Master in Business Administration and Executive Master Business Administration? I know that the entry requirements are different with EMBA requiring longer years of services in a management post and usually is more costly to take. Furthermore, I understand that the graduate of EMBA usually command a higher salary. However, I need a better understanding of both, in order for me to make an informed decision when choosing any one of those course since EMBA is usually twice the school fees of MBA in most reputable university. I realised most university like Insead, IE Business, University of Chicago offers both MBA and EMBA. moreResolved Question: Would you support your spouse if...? (7 scenarios)?

Recently, your spouse has announced that he/she would like to quit their job, and pursue something productive that will *not* make money. Would you support your spouse? Scenario 5) Like scenario #1&3, but you don't like your job at all. You'd quit if you could, but you keep working it because it pays well enough to support the lifestyle you want. You are counting down the years until retirement! Recently, your spouse has announced that he/she would like to quit their job, and pursue something productive that may or may not make money. Would you support your spouse? Scenario 6) Like scenario #2&4, but you don't like your job at all. You'd quit if you could, but you keep working it because it pays well enough to support the lifestyle you want. You are counting down the years for retirement! Recently, your spouse has announced that he/she would like to quit their job, and pursue something productive will *not* make money. Would you support your spouse? Scenario 7) You currently make enough money that your spouse doesn't have to work at all, and frankly, your spouse doesn't want to. Your spouse prefers to spend all day seeing friends and going to the spa/gym and buying things. They also don't raise your kids, because your kids are extremely gifted and attend an elite boarding school 9.5 months out of the year. How happy/rich would you have to be for it not to bother you if your spouse never wanted to work? (Presume that you are not the beneficiary of family inheritance or any other "free money"... you HAVE to earn an income.) Thanks in advance. =) moreResolved Question: Acupuncture as career? How do I counter a salary offer?
Should I accept this job offer? How do I counter a salary offer? Well, here goes another question my life warrants! All these questions! gosh! Thank goodness for this site. Im going to do this in bullets because I have had a long day and tomorrow is due to be exhausting as well. -- I taught for five years and left the profession. The public school sector was too draining. -- I secured a medical administrative job- I took a serious pay cut, but do not regret my choice as I have been able to add business work to my resume ---I decided earlier this summer to return to teaching--but in the private/charter school sector because I can no longer afford the salary decrease at my current employer ---I secured a job interview today with a charter school. I was told there were four candidates, and that I would learn today if I were hired, and the training is due to start Thursday. I told the Interviewer in the meeting that I am currently employed and would need to give some sort of notice to my employer. -- About 30 minutes after I left the interview, I was called and offered the position. Great! Not quite. The salary the charter school is offering is not what I was expecting. With five years of teaching and complete licensure I would make 48,000 to 50K range in the public school sector. Granted, I did take a year off from teaching...I expect a slight decrease in that I am returning to the field- but the interviewer told me that the school would be offering me the position at 38,000. This is what I was making when I first started teaching! I am not a first year teacher. --other factors to consider, the commute to this school is not local- 45-1 hour drive. And the employer is "at will" no contract/union. However, teacher retention at the school is 95%. I would make about 6,000 more a year, versus my current employer. However, accepting this position at this salary is counterproductive, I think, because I feel I qualify for more then that based on my experience alone. Also, the school really wants me to quit my current job with no notice to the employer as their school orientation starts Thursday! --Anyways, not sure what I should do. Do I counter this offer? If so, how much more do I request? Do I just decline the position and wait until next summer to re-apply to teaching jobs?? That puts me out of the field for two years...really unsure as to what I should do here. I have to call the interviewer back tomorrow with my plans. In other words, he's expecting I'll be at the school orientation on Thursday. I was driving when he told me I was the candidate of choice, and couldn't really voice my concerns because everything happened so quickly. But this is a major decision and I want to make the right choice. Also, what about giving notice to my employer? moreResolved Question: Anyone else witnessing your local government spending like crazy?
Our regional congressman got $200,000 from the "stimulus" money to build a sidewalk ....it's a quarter mile long in front of my business, and will serve about 6 people a day. Didn't create any new jobs, it just gave the city workers more work to do. They also just purchased a property for $2.5 million - will tear down the existing 50 year old building to construct a new $12 million one, because they've outgrown their old 20,000 sq ft building. Students in our schools have half a dozen $5000 camcorders, and a dozen $1000 professional level digital cameras for their student projects, when lower end equipment would work just as well. I've heard similar stories of excessive spending in every area, while at the same time being told there's not enough money for teacher salaries and teachers ask their students to bring toilet paper because their budgets are so low. Why do they spend so much of OUR money behind the scenes, but cry poverty on high profile issues to anyone who will listen? moreResolved Question: what major is more beneficial ? business administration or international business ?

I have been married for 20 years and have 3 wonderful children, one is in medical school and the two are in middle and high school. All of them are very good in their studies. Every month I would gave all my wages to my wife and save a hundred dollars for myself to spend. My wife would save up everything she could for the sake of the family and the kids education. Now the problem is that I started to gamble and lost tens of thousands of dollars which I took from the bank. Those were the money my wife save up all these years. When she found out I just told her that I loan it to a friend which of course is a lie but I manage to fork out the money I took with the help of my sister but except of the balance of $3000. I told my wife another lie that my friend will be paying her the balance a little later which I am figuring out a way. Now she started out a restaurant business with the help of her friends and my in laws and her brother is working for her. I supported her too by working as a second chef for 7 days a week, 14 hours a day. Her brother doesn't know anything but withdrawing a $650 salary a week. I told her that it is not right but she sided him every way she could. Frankly, the restaurant is not making any profit, to make ends meet, we don;t even have our own wages. Every time when I tried to teached her brother something she would tell me off because her brother would tell her that I am mean to him. He even moved into our house to stay for good. Now my wife is not in good terms with me, she slept in the room and ask me to sleep outside on the cold floor but her brother sleeps in a nice warm bed. This had been going on for quite sometime and I tried reasoning with her but she wouldn't listen and end up in a heated arguement. We seldom talk anymore because every word I said will be a big mistake.. so the less I talk, the less mistake I make and no talks, no mistake'. Many a times I thought of moving out but because of my 10 year old daughter whom is very close to me, I stayed on. Can somebody out there give me some advice on weather how can I solve these problems? I had enough of the suffering, should I stay on or leave? moreVoting Question: Should I get my MBA or MSOB?

Before you blow up on the subject, please understand my question. I know that most doctors don't even finish education and residency until age 30 (or later) and that they have considerable amounts of debt- sometimes 250k at that time! Also, they are certainly drained emotionally and that these years of heavy education and little to no pay is extremely rough on people. It has also been brought up to me that these high salaries are a major source of motivation for med school students. Some other thoughts for you to consider- Services such as the Air Force offer free med school- you just have to be a doctor for them for a preset amount of time. Also, health care is unaffordable to many and would be much cheaper if the salaries weren't "ridiculously" high. Is it right for a sick child to be out of care because their parents can't afford the hospital bills? It just seems wrong to me that doctors can be so rich at the cost of everyone else. I understand that not all types of doctors make tons of money, I'm just generalizing. And I am just looking for some insight on the topic, not an argument, but please correct any false information I have supplied! I don't mean to falsify anything. In your responses, please state whether or not you work in the medical field so I can understand your answer better. Also, please respond to this quote-- "I can't imagine ever saying or thinking that someone makes too much money. Becoming a doctor, a lawyer, or a business (wo)man is a choice. If you choose to be lazy and be a clerk or something, that's your deal. If you work hard, you get paid. That's how it works." --"Karen" Thanks very much! moreResolved Question: Why would some defend the illegal aliens?
Why are they keep crossing the border? Why? That means they can find a job here! If no one would hire them, they will not gamble their lives crossing the border to find jobs in US. If we really want to stop this, we should act on it, never ever hire an illegal alien to do the plumbing. Maybe you could save some $$$ but in exchange for that, the future of your grand children, if you will only look closely, look a few decades ago, when these illegal aliens hardly find a job, because noone wants to hire them. They are only a few here in NY, but now when you go outside the streets, they are the only people you can see, straight down the street like they fall in line for nothing, waiting for some white van. When they saw a white van(like for construction) they start running to it. Its just this is not the Governments fault at all. It is the citizens fault, and those greedy contractors!!!!!! First of all, they know it is illegal to come here withouth papers. Second, why would anybody defend them for human rights? Being illegal has nothing to do with human rights! Its the violation that they did that we are talking about. Oh lets say, if I break the law and then I got punished, would you think that they are violating my rights? Of course not, because I did something wrong, and thats why I should be punished by law. Second of all, imagine, these illegal aliens who receive FREE health insurance, housing, school (for their anchor babies), etc..etc...dont even contribute a single cent to the IRS! What do you think will happen, if the expenses of the Feds are too much greater than what they collected? I just want to say that only those who hires this illegal aliens are the ones who are defending them, so that they can hire them for low salary and the only people who suffer are those hardworking average citizen. This is the fault of construction business who gives jobs to these illegals so that they can pay cheap labor, wich is not documented. And also for those citizens who doesnt want to pay for a plumber, and let this illegals did the job, this is your fault! moreVoting Question: What are some good college courses? I'm a senior in high school, and i still don't know what i want to take for college. I'm under time pressure, im submitting my application form really soon. so here it goes: I'm not that good with math, I'm decent in everything else. I'm thought of as an artsy guy, I enjoy video making/editing, and im pretty good at it, i used to make short animations in flash, and they really good for an 11 year old. I'm not that athletic, I play guitar, people keep saying I'm really good at it, even the guys who've been playing for years. What courses can you recommend? what jobs can i get with them? how is the salary? one reason why I'm not so sure if i should go to an art/media related course is because I want to be financially stable in the future and I'm not sure if they pay well. HELP ME!!! moreResolved Question: scared about university?
Growing up, my parents always told me to pursue sciences as jobs in those fields are guaranteed to be safe in the long run. In grade 11, I chose mostly math and science courses and decided that I wanted a degree in science as there are endless careers with high paying salary involved in that field. In grade 12, however, I didn't take chemistry and I started doubting myself if I could still pursue a career in sciences. I ended up applying to the top business schools that would lead me to becoming a CA and some programs in the science field. Surprisingly, not only did I get accepted to one of the top business schools in my country, I was accepted to the science program that I thought I had no chance of getting in. I thought about it for a while... I didn't take chemistry in my final year and if I chose to accept that science program, I will probably get murdered with the course load and get lost in all of the lectures and lab. I then started thinking about my business offer. I was at that point almost 100% sure I wanted a career as a CA since they make just as much money any other careers in sciences and I also got into a school where it produces the highest UFE student pass-rates in all of my country. Believe you me, I struggled a lot with what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go. In the end, I chose to pursue a career in CA. Now that school is just around the corner, I'm scared if I made the right choice. University is totally different, and maybe I could have still learnt what I missed if I chose to pursue that science program and perhaps still have become a pharmacist or a dentist, or even a engineer! Some of my friends are going into sciences and they always talk about how much money they will be making, and I get extremely timid if I will ever be making that much. Business is risky and it always depends on how the economy is doing, I don't want to lose my job and let my years of studying go to waste. I personally think individuals at the age of 17-18 are too young to chose what they want to do for the rest of their lives, we haven't had much experience of the world. So this is my story... I hope you can provide me some advice as if I made the right choice or not as well as some tips to help me control this fear I have of going to university. moreResolved Question: What kind of job opportunities, security, and salary can an economics major expect?
What can I expect? I realize that times are hard for everybody now but I will graduate in three years and I would like to know what kind of options economics majors have. Some of my friends want to be professional economists, but that's not really what I would like to do. I actually want to get my foot in the door for business and work a couple years before getting a MBA in something like finance. Would my degree be comparable to a management one? Some people have told me that I could actually work in an accounting related job (not a CPA for sure, but maybe as a book-keeper or something) or be a financial analyst. Do businesses prefer college grads with a business degree over an econ degree per se? I go to a decent college (it's a top 20 liberal arts school) - what do you think my opportunties will be like? The designers should know how to design logos, be creative with slogans, be highly skilled with printers and scanners and should also be frugal in using company resources (paper, colored ink, etc.). Rev communications will have a senior graphic designer in charge of all concept development, followed by a junior designer. The third designer will be a young student, preferably directly from school with little experience and lots of energy (who can be paid a very modest wage to save company costs). An office assistant to manage calls, emails, pay bills, monitor spending and budgets, etc. There is no requirement for this person to have communications/marketing experience as they will deal with generic office administration matters. This person should be experienced in an office setting and comfortable with managing and flagging budget lines. The office assistant must also be efficient and effective in letter drafting, file management, email correspondence, preparing mail-outs and invoices, handling logistics for meetings and conferences, etc. Given the positions above, answer the following questions; A. What would your recruiting strategy be for the Business Development, Graphic Design and Office Manager positions? Where would you post the job offerings? Would your recruiting be internal or external? B. How would you select your human resources – using interviews, tests (online or paper)? Explain. C. An important HR consideration is evaluating your Rev employees. Would you choose the simple ranking, forced distribution, graphic rating scale or critical incident method as means of evaluating your people? Could you use the same option for all six employees or would one be preferred over another depending on the job? D. Everyone loves payday. Explain how you would pay your six employees using one or a combination of the following; salary based on industry standard, merit pay, skill-based pay, knowledge-based pay, sales commission, gain-sharing program, profit-sharing plan. E. In many cases potential employees are as attracted to the benefits package as they are the salary level. For Rev Communications would you see the value in establishing a wellness program and/or a cafeteria-style benefit plan? (Keep in mind these programs can get to be very expensive, especially for a start-up company such as Rev). F. Employee turnover is a fact of life in the private sector business world. What would Rev’s Replacement chart look like? moreResolved Question: Why do conservatives argue that the government does not create jobs?
They argue that government spending does not create jobs or stimulate the economy. They argue that only private sector jobs stimulate the economy. However, my personal life experience indicates otherwise. As many of you know, I owned a manufacturing company. Many of my contracts were government contracts to make parts for aircraft, trains, and many other products. This is government spending that actually stimulated the local economy. ALL of the other business owners I know make money from government contracts. Whether it is a service contract with the GSA, or a military contract to make spare parts, the private sector benefits tremendously from government spending. Furthermore it isn't limited to federal government spending. The local police and fire department also spend money. When they buy new police cars, they spend money to get the cars retrofitted with lights, decals, and interior renovations. This work often goes towards local private businesses. Local schools issue contracts to local companies for general upkeep, from landscaping and maintenance to supplies and renovations. Government contracts are issued to clean the carpets, paint the walls, and maintain the HVAC. Not only that, but government employees spend the money they earn. They have salaries and they spend, which stimulates the local economy. Government employees do not hoard money in their mattresses. Government employees buy houses, cars, and home supplies, just like you and me. If we stop government spending, like conservatives want, then we lose all these contracts and jobs. If we ship all these things to the private sector, then they become more expensive because the private corporation needs to add money for their profit so the owner can become a billionaire, so privatizing everything will result in higher costs. In short, government contracts already produce billions in stimulus. I don't need a television or radio personality to tell me how government spending helps local businesses. I see it all the time. QUESTION: Despite direct observational evidence, why do Republican conservatives continually state that government spending creates no jobs? Also keep in mind, that government spending MUST by LAW be on American companies, while private sector companies continuously ship our jobs overseas. So government spending = only on American companies. Private corporate spending = jobs in China or India where labor is cheaper. Why would private sector spending help more than government spending? moreVoting Question: What majors/minors should I choose?
Hey I'm a student at a Public Ivy School and I'm about to go into my sophomore year. I'm trying to figure out what majors/minors are going to have the best payoffs in the long-run. After college I'll most likely work for a few years then get an MBA or JD. When I come out of college I want to be making near 60 grand a year for a starting salary. I've taken several Economics courses this year (with great interest) and want to get a double major in something else and a minor. I want to either switch to a Business Major, or double major in Economics and Philosophy. And for a minor, I'm caught as to whether I should study Computer Science or Biology. What advice can anyone give? I'm stuck because I feel like with the economy that anything business-related isn't going to have large room for career growth with the new financial regulations. Any advice? moreResolved Question: Let's try this again... when teaching *isn't* your first career choice?
I posted this question earlier and not only did I get few answers, but the answers I didn't seem credible. I am currently majoring in Liberal Arts. I have many different interest but they all go back to English, Literature, Language Arts and the like. I have an interest in Journalism, possibly being a Technical Writer or even a Primary or Early Elementary school teacher. The biggest concern that I have is mostly about the salary that teachers are paid, in contrast to that of a Technical Writer's annual salary (apparently it starts at 50k.) Are there any teachers or teacher's aides out there who had another profession prior to choosing Education? I really don't find, "Either you pick teaching or you don't. That's it," to be a credible answer, seeing as how half of my professors at college initially did something else. For example, my Journalism teacher majored in Communications and Literature, had every intention of becoming a journalist but had to change careers. I have a Math professor who was a senior financial consultant for a large corporation and when he was laid off, he went into teaching. I have another professor who worked for Ford for 30+ years and since he was laid off he has now gone on to teach Business courses. Hell, even my significant other is in the IT field and has taught classes here and there for computer systems and software applications. I know for a fact that you don't HAVE to choose teaching as a major or even a first career choice to end up in Education. I just want to hear someone's personal experience.Cecilia - Thank you. That really helped a lot. moreVoting Question: My future career plans?
Hello. I am 13. I want to know what you think about my plans for my future career. I would like to be really rich and have a family. I would also like a mansion and a NYC apartment. So far, I have the best grades in my private school. I plan on maintaining those grades throughout my school career. After high school, I plan on attending a ivy league school. After receiving a BBA in college, I would apply for a job as an analyst and hopefully join the well known management consulting firm McKinsey and Company. They have great benefits and a very competitive compensation. After a few years as an analyst in NYC, they will even pay for some of your tuition to get an MBA as long as you agree to come back after your MBA. I would hopefully get my MBA at Harvard Business School or Sloan or UM Ross. After getting my MBA, I would rejoin McKinsey as an associate. Associates at McKinsey make around $200,000 a year. Each year, your salary goes up. Their job growth rate is also very high. They also have great work life balance for when I'm ready to start a family. After 6-9 years, they will most likely promote you to a partner position which makes $800,000 to $2,000,000 a year. Stay with the firm for another five years, and most likely you get promoted to director which makes multi millions. When I'm with the firm, i will focus my career in consulting with media companies. After sometime with the firm, I would apply for a senior managment/executive position at a fortune 500 media company like viacom, time Warner, news Corp etc. If I am correct, I believe executives of fortune 500 media companies make multi millions. My fathers friend is currently an executive at viacom and is very wealthy. People tell me that in order to become wealthy, you have to start your own company. However, you can get wealthy by having a high paying job, and investing. There is no one way to wealth. I used to think I wanted to be an investment banker at gold man sachs. By having a career with McKinsey in it, it means a lot. Many fortune 500 executives come from firms like McKinsey. McKinsey prepares you for a successful career in business management. I realize that most likely, my career won't exactly go like this, but this is what I hope to achieve and become really rich. So you think this is any good? Thanks. PS, if you find any typos, it is because I just got an iPad and my typing on it sucks :) lol. moreVoting Question: How do you get really rich from your business?
I have my MBA from harvard business school. I am about to take a job at Boston Consulting Group and will be located in NYC. The starting salaries for a management consultant at BCG is $150,000 plus great benefits. Each year, your salary just goes up, and after 5-8 years, they most likely promote you to partner of the firm. Being partner makes you million plus dollars a year. Many CEOs of fortune 500s have come from BCG. I would then go to a media company like time Warner, news Corp, or viacom, and apply for a senior management position that would make me millions a year. Other people tell me that to get super rich, you have to start your one company. What kind of company do I start? A small business type of company won't make much? Do I start my own private equity firm? A venture capital firm? What do you think on how I should get rich? Should I get a job and work my way up to the riches, or should I start my own company with risks? Please help me. I would like to get a job since I would be working for an established company. Or should i start my own company buying and selling companies? Any ideas? moreVoting Question: Which job offer should I take?
Hello. I just got my MBA from harvard business school. I got my undergrad from Yale. Currently, I am being offered 5 jobs that are really good jobs. My goals for life are to become very rich, but have time to start a family, have a mansion, have a luxury NYC apartment, and have time for my family. 1. I recently interviewed for an associate job at Goldman Sachs Group. I got the job. The job would require me being in NYC, and working FULL time. Pros- Compensation is around $600,000. Work in NYC. Cons- Normally working all day and night. Work 120 hour work weeks. No social life. Very bad job growth. Very bad job security. 2. I interviewed and have a job offer at McKinsey and Company which is s management consulting firm. They don't require too long of hours. You work in NYC. Also, at first you get to travel which is s good experience, but as you move up, not as much travel. Pros- Pay starts at $100,000 and goes up every year. After ten years, if they promote you to partner, you can be making millions a year. Great job growth. They recognize you need a social life. They give you time for a social life. Great opportunities after you leave. Most people either are rich from being partner, become rich from starting their own company after, or become rich by going on to a bigger company and becoming CEO. Many CEOs of fortune 500 have come from management consulting firims. Cons- none. 3. Viacom International (paramount pictures, MTV, Nick, vh1, tv land). Since my dads friend is an executive of viacom and is super rich, he helps me out. Pros- Know executive really well. Once in senior management, your making millions a year. Cons- Horrible pay for starting salaries. 4. Boston Consulting Group. Another management consulting firm. Same pros and cons as McKinsey. 5. Start my own record label. Pros- can make tons if done right Cons- Very competitive. What I would like to do is join McKinsey and stay until I reach partner. After partner I would stay for another 5 years. Then I would leave McKinsey and go to a media company like viacom, time Warner, news Corp, etc. I would apply for a senior management position. I would then make my way up to an executive level. Then after being with a media company for a while, I would then start my own private equity firm. Then I would retire. Does this sound any good? Cons- moreResolved Question: What is the pay scale for a nursery nurse in london?!?
I received a letter from the school I got a job at, as a nursery nurse, saying I would be on pay scale 6 - but they dont state how much this is. When I asked them about this they said the business manager deals with salaries, however their business manager has left so a new one will be there in September when I start, but I want to know what my salary will be before that. I have tried searching google but cant find anything? Thanks. moreResolved Question: Does this sound like a good career path?
I got my MBA from harvard business school. I would love to be super rich, have a wife, have kids, have a mansion, and have a luxury apartment in NYC. So far, I have been offered two jobs. 1 at McKinsey and Company in NYC and another at viacom international in NYC. Both are huge companies and viacom is a fortune 500, however, for job growth and starting salaries, McKinsey sounds like the best option. Also, my dads friend who is a mega rich guy who is an executive of viacom, he says I should learn some business management skills from the management consulting firm (McKinsey) and then join viacom as a senior posit . McKinsey pays it's first year associates $200,000 plus a bonus. Each year, as your work gets more interesting, you get a higher salary. After ten years with the firm, they most likely promote you to partner and most partners at the firm are making multi millions a year. So here is my proposed career path that I would like, but I realize things change for the better or for the worst. 1.take the job offer at McKinsey and Company as an associate and make six figures a year with tons of hard work and travel. 2. After ten years or so, I would hopefully be promoted to partner and make multi millions a year. If I were to start a family, this would be the time. 3. After five years as partner, I would apply for a senior management position at viacom international. I would then hopefully be promoted to an executive and make a killing a year? I know that this is probably unlikely to happen like this, but if it did, would it make me very rich? Some people say you need to start your own business to get rich, but can't your job make you rich if you climb the corporate ladder? If I had a choice between starting my own business and working at a firm, i would take the firm job even though a small business would require less time. I would take the job since the job is a more of a chance that you will make six figures, and a small business involves risk. moreResolved Question: Graduate looking for some job seeking and CV advice?
