Social marketing firm Powered gets new CEO

Powered Inc., a social marketing and technology firm, has named Ken Nicolson president and CEO.

Nicolson most recently served as chief marketing officer at Pluck, a social media software firm, which was acquired by online media company Demand Media Inc. earlier this year.

He is replacing Dave Ellett, who is now president and general manager of Dallas-based Belo Interactive Media.

At Powered, Nicolson will be charged with overseeing day-to-day operations, market expansion and product development. The company has a 70-person office in downtown Austin and a new office in Silicon Valley.

Powered's signature product is Panorama, a social marketing platform that lets businesses post and manage product-related data, blogs, message boards, online courses and customer-generated reviews. more

EA Looking To Market Crysis Ready PCs

Electronic Arts is looking at marketing a line of desktop PC systems to coincide with the release of Crysis Warhead, branded with the Crysis name. The reasoning? More people who don't regularly use a PC to game will pick up a PC branded with a game name simply for the assurance that the system will run the title. They are looking at providing multiple systems at a price tag between $600-$800 to coincide with how well the gamer wants the game to run.

This is a brilliant idea. I've always felt that PC manufacturers were missing out by not marketing directly to gamers. I'm not talking high-end, higher-priced dedicated gaming systems here. Just a PC with a sticker on it that lists the games it will run out of the box - kind of like how console packaging shows popular titles available on that system. more

Beacon Street Girls Launches New Community Targeting Tweens

Unlike Flip, however, BSG is (unsurprisingly) heavily branded with one theme in mind, utilizing the network as a marketing platform for related products like books and sleepover kits.

That's not to say that it's a bad thing. Flip had trouble meeting initial expectations with its niche network, despite its potential as a marketing playground where users could decorate their virtual lockers with posters featuring different bands and things of that nature. But BSG is so niche, given its connection with the BSG book series that its targeting goals and capabilities are likely different than those of Flip.

There are other branding and marketing opportunities, however. Certain celebrities will offer featured content, free downloads, and posters, giving members even more ways to personalize their profile pages, and even their computers and *gasp* MySpace pages. more

Resolved Question: What university in Texas would you recommend?

My family is moving to Texas and I am currently a student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. I'm about to be a sophomore, double majoring in accounting and financing. My GPA is a 3.69 right now. I'll start school in Texas my junior year. I've looked at different rankings on the schools in Texas and the ones highest ranked for business seem to be UT-Austin, Texas A&M, UT-Dallas, and other private schools. I would rather go to a public school and save some money for my family. Which school would you recommend? I'm leaning towards UT-Dallas because it's near lots of businesses in Dallas and might open doors beacause of that. Thank you for the help!! (: more

Resolved Question: UT BHP, NYU, or Emory?

I want to do finance, so all three school I mentioned, I'm referring to their business programs. UT's Business Honors Program is 17k a year. Located in Austin, TX. #10 in business rankings NYU Stern is 53k a year. Located in NYC, #2 in Finance (right behind UPenn), #8 in business rankings Emory is 47k a year. Resolved Question: Choosing a college/university?

Is northeastern a good business school? I noticed it dropped 8 places this year in business week's rankings. I am also thinking of applying to Bentley but the student body doesn't seem that diverse. I also hate the fact that they want you to take 50% LA classes and 50% business classes. So I don't really think it's a fit for me but I'm having trouble deciding on what schools to apply. My plans at the moment are to major in accounting or finance and try and land a job at one of the Big 4 accounting firms or if I major in finance get a job as an analyst. I also want to go to grad school once I can apply. My gpa is a 3.57 and after this semester I'm hoping to get it up around a 3.7. I'm involved in the economics club at my school and we won the fed challenge this year for community colleges. What business schools do I have a shot at getting into? I am also leaning more towards a college located in a major city if it helps any.My family doesn't have much money either. What schools are the best at giving out grants and scholarships? I don't mind paying some of the schooling with loans. But I honestly don't feel I should be in debt 50k+ dollars because I work hard at my studies and we don't have much money. more

I got accepted by SUNY-Binghamton, SUNY-Buffalo, SUNY-Stony Brook and CUNY-Baruch. I want to major in business(such as finance/management). Please give me an idea whose undergraduate business is the strongest and which school is considered with the most respect? I viewed some rankings last week and they are contradictory. Some rank Binghamton the highest. Some rank Buffalo and Baruch the best. I have no idea which one is true. I am a new immigrant from Shanghai. Resolved Question: Is Thunderbird a good place to get my MBA if I'm interested in working internationally, most likely at I-bank?

They seem to have an excellent reputation in regards to international business, but I would like to get opinions about the school and the program beyond what is listed in rankings, etc. I plan on working in corporate finance for an investment bank, internationally and want to know if this school will give me the opportunities to do so. I have applied to 4 universities, specifically Indiana University - Bloomington, University of Wisconsin - Madison, University of Illinois at Chicago, and DePaul University at Chicago. I am planning to pursue a Business degree concentrating on Corporate Finance and Economics. I have a few questions here: 1. How can I choose a distinctive university among all those? 2. Do I have to consider rankings? Indiana's Kelley School of Business is ranked very highly for its Finance program, same goes to Wisconsin but not so on Illinois Chicago and DePaul. 3. Do I have to consider job/internship opportunities? 4. If so, will Chicago provide an easier access to this? 5. Would you go for big campus with nice college town or small campus located in the city? Resolved Question: Current College Student, Future Law School studen.. HELP!?

Hey guys, im current an undergrad student at Miami University (Ohio). Majoring in Finance and having a Minor in Chinese/ Business Law. Im only a sophmore now and have been working my ass off. My freshman year Gpa was only 2.55. But this year should be easily over a 3 with alot more credits. I also have been working throughout college, (im a project manager at my fraternitys executive offices),(10 hours a week). I also teach chinese at the local high school. (i'm a fluent chinese speaker), even though i was born and raised in the U.S. If i raise up my gpa to at least above a 3, before i graduate and get a decent score on my sats. do i have a shot at a top tier law( http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/law/brief/lawrank_brief.php) school? Also does being a minority help getting in law school? thanks more
