Theme Park Plans Test Of Weekend Schedule

A Georgia entrepreneur, Kent Buescher, purchased Cypress Gardens and reopened it later in 2003, but the park suffered $25 million in hurricane damage in 2004 that Buescher could not recover from insurance.

The most recent ownership group, a Mulberry real estate company that bought Cypress Gardens in October for $16.8 million after Buescher was forced to put the park into a bankruptcy auction, said the park drew 82,248 visitors in December, down from 99,283 in December 2006.

"I think with the proper marketing, Cypress Gardens will have an audience that obviously won't be as big as the major parks, but it can be affordable compared with the others," Ruben said. Adult tickets are $39.95, a little more than half the price of Walt Disney World.

"I believe the economy will have more impact on destination resorts in Central Florida and Southern California than on regional parks like Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and even Cypress Gardens," Ruben said. more

“Spam King” Behind Bars: Robert Soloway Gets 4 Years In Prison

In June this year, spammer Scott Richter was found guilty of spamming MySpace users with unsolicited advertisements and ordered to pay approximately $6 million in damages, which represents only a small fraction of what Sanford Wallace and Walter Rines had to pay MySpace for sending 30 million junk e-mails to its users.

Business School Rank Questions asked

Open Question: How can I improve my chances of getting into Navy OCS?

I'm majoring in Business Administration at a UC university and starting my fourth year soon. I'll be calling a recruiter first thing on Monday to make it clear I'm very interested and will keep in touch throughout the school year. I do Jiu Jitsu outside of school, participate in Judo in school, have not done any sports since entering college. I'll definitely look out for any opportunities to demonstrate leadership. When the time comes, I can get referrals from several high-ranking navy officers who are now retired. My first semester, I received a 2.0 in a biological sciences major, then switched to undeclared for about 2 years. Since then, I have been getting an average of 3.0 every quarter and have been boosting my overall GPA to 3.0. This year I'm much more serious about grades since its my fourth year towards earning a Bachelor of Science degree. more

Open Question: what are the chances of getting into a top tier law or graduate program coming from an unknown college?

I go to a small college in north carolina. It hasn't been ranked in the top schools lists forbes, us news and other ranking systems. Is it possible to get into a higher ranked graduate program in business or law? What are my chances of doing so? Will I be at great odds to get in compared to people coming from a higher school even if I maintain a high gpa at my college? Any information is great. more

Open Question: Homework Help... American Heroes Questions?

I really need help with this and it counts for a pretty big grade for school. Nobody has to tell me the full answer but they can at least help me through it. Anything would be very helpful. Read this excerpt from Dixon Wecter's "The Hero in America" and answer the following questions. Link to excerpt: http://xroads.virginia.edu/~ug03/radio/a… 1. What claim does the text address? (Claim: A statement that focuses on an issue within a broad topic. It is a general belief or assertion about this issue and is expressed without support, warrant, and proof of its validity. For example, within baseball, "Good pitching is essential for winning the pennant".) 2. What point-of-view does the author adopt about this claim? 3. What is the author's thesis? 4. Give two examples of evidence from the text. 5. At whom is the article/excerpt directed? 6. What conclusion does the author establish? 7. Is the argument convincing? Why or why not? 8. What is your opinion about the author's claim or position? (be brief) If you can't get to the link, here's the excerpt: "Any roll-call of America's heroes invites one last question. Whom do Americans most admire? What are the signs by which they may be known? No doubt they stand for qualities that seem precious for the group good. Yet scores of worthies, men of high intellect and character, have missed the magic ranks of those- in uniform and buckskin, on horseback or trudging afoot or spanning the sky, at statesman's desk or inventor's work-bench- whom Everyman takes as his heroes." (476) "Certain professions have yielded few national idols. The artist, admired so keenly by another business civilization, the Renaissance, has not met with much popular honor in America... No American writer has received such homage as did Voltaire in Paris in 1778... The scholar as a type has never kindled American imagination... The average american is prone to believe that nobody becomes a teacher who can succeed at any other trade..." (477-79). "The law has trained more American heroes and leaders than has any other profession... But the lawyer qua lawyer, in America as elsewhere, has never been able to match the soldier or explorer as an inevitable hero type." (481) "The sort of man whom Americans admire, trust, and are willing to follow can be sketched with a few lines... At the basic level he must be self-respecting, decent, honorable, with a sense of fair play... He must be firm and self-confident in leadership: Davy Crockett's "Be always sure you're right, then go ahead!"... But a reputation for "genius" is unnecessary and may do the hero harm. An able man must not glory in his cleverness... Vanity or personal arrogance in any form is taboo." (482-83) "The hero of a democracy cannot invite public opinion to go to hell... He must pay tribute to conformity... Fundamentally the hero is required to be chaste, loyal, honest, humble before duty and before God. He is apt to have a dash of Puritan conscience, but the beauty of holiness is no more expected than is a sense of poetry... Hard work, tenacity, enterprise, and firmness in the face of odds are the qualities that Americans most admire, rather than originality or eloquence of tongue and pen." (485) "What is their common denominator? All of them, the people believe, loved America more deeply than any selfish consideration. The hero as made in America is a man who has the power and yet does not abuse it... A Chief Executive may then be called to office who rules as a minor Augustus over a gilded age, or serves as the genial host at a great barbecue." (487) "Our heroes, we believe, are cast in a different mould. Their ruling passion, as we see it, is a sense of duty, alert to the best among the stirring impulses of their time, and able to make that impulse effective. They translate the dream into act. The supreme leader is he who can hitch the great bandwagon to the star of American idealism." (487) Thanks to all who choose to help, I would really appreciate it. more

Resolved Question: Feminists, why does ze patriarchy conspire to pay women at the top in business more than their male equals?

or is it more likely your organisation is conspiring to mislead you about the nature of reality for their own ends. A Carnegie Mellon University study has concluded that women executives out-earn their male counterparts. The study, which examined 16,000 executives over 14 years, found that women at the top of the business world bring in a bit more than men and are promoted at the same rate, countering the popular notion that women earn less than men for the same work. "That common perception is not borne out by this study," said Robert A. Miller, professor of economics and strategy and one of the authors. "If you're looking for evidence of gender discrimination in executive promotion and compensation, it's not happening there." The study, "Are There Glass Ceilings for Female Executives?," was released last month by Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business but hasn't been published yet. The largest empirical analysis of the top echelons of publicly traded companies determined that women earned about $100,000 more per year than men of the same age, educational background and experience. Unlike some studies that have relied on aggregate statistics to indicate a gender pay gap, this one took multiple variables into account. "Once you control for the position that they're in, that is, their rank, and you control for experience and control for their education, background and turnover, once you do that you find that they earn a little more," said Dr. Miller. The paper does not address why women make more and not the same as men, although one possibility is that women who rise to the top of corporations have some innate qualities that haven't been -- and maybe can't be -- quantified. Female executives on the whole still earn less than male executives, but that's because more women quit before they reach the top, the study says. "At any given level of the career hierarchy, women are paid slightly more than men with the same background, have slightly less income uncertainty and are promoted as quickly," it concludes. "We concluded that the gender pay gap and differences in job rank in this most lucrative occupation is explained by females leaving the market at higher rates than males." Why they quit is harder to explain. Younger women opt out of the work force to have babies, but the average age for executives in the study was 53, beyond the child-bearing years. Yet female executives still retire earlier than men and are more likely to switch careers. The CMU paper offers some possible reasons, including "more unpleasantries, indignities and tougher, unrewarding assignments" at work. The authors also suggest that women over time acquire "more nonmarket human capital" than men -- meaning connections outside the workplace -- that make retirement more attractive. "They're definitely leaving and we don't know why," said Dr. Miller. "That's the variable." He and the other researchers, George-Levi Gayle and Limor Golan, both assistant professors of economics, hope to address that issue in the future by controlling for the rate of retirement. "That is the piece that we want to write next," he said. The study didn't initially seek to analyze gender inequity but rather to look at the role of "human capital" -- skills and knowledge -- in determining promotions at corporations. "But this sort of jumped out and hit us in the face," said Dr. Miller. Some studies had indicated female executives were paid the same as men, but those didn't address the rate of promotion as this one does, he said. More recent studies reached similar conclusions. A report released last month by The Corporate Library, a research firm in Maine, said women corporate directors earn 15 percent more than male counterparts, although they are still outnumbered 8-1 by men on boards. The CMU study compiled data representing 60 different job titles at more than 1,800 companies between 1992 and 2006. In addition to examining promotion rates, the researchers also analyzed total compensation, including benefits, bonuses, retirement packages and stock options in addition to salary. Overall, the study concluded that job turnover and tenure are better indicators of compensation than gender. Resolved Question: What are some good colleges for me?

I'm going into senior year and here's how I look: ACT: 33 GPA: 4.92 weighted 4.25 unweighted (5.0 scale) Class Rank: somewhere around 100/425 I have taken 4 AP tests and will be taking 5 more in my senior year. My courses are very rigorous, all being AP or Honours (aside from electives). I balance my classes with a year round political action club, swimming, and water polo. I have been named all-conference and all-sectional for water polo and was team captain. I'd prefer a small or medium sized school where I could majour in political science, business, or economics. If it had a polo team of at least club level that would be a majour plus. If you think I should add any info please say. In your answer could you be specific please. This is a huge decision and you could have a real influence on my life. Hanx a lot. I've already done college matching forms online. They either give me 200 schools to choose from or if I really narrow my search it gives me none. Also, they don't really give me a feel of what the college is like or if it is good for me. I don't mind going far from home, Chicago, and I'd like a school with at least a club water polo team. I don't want money to really affect my decision until it really must, but it shouldn't be to much of a problem. more

Resolved Question: Why do business majors rarely pursue MBAs?

I've been told that business majors don't pursue MBAs because that program consists of stuff they should already know from working in the industry. If this is the case, can business majors even advance their careers with education or do they just have to perform really well in their jobs to be promoted? How close is the curriculum of an MBA program to a undergraduate business program? I'm working on an economics degree now at a top 20 liberal arts school. People have told me that I will have a more difficult time finding a job after college (my college is highly ranked, but it's also relatively obscure) than a business major, but that I will have a long term advantage. Resolved Question: Intro Business Questions?

With your new found business savvy you have decided to take on the challenges of becoming an entrepreneur and have opened a Marketing and Communications firm call ‘Rev Communications’. The Rev Business model involves creating marketing plans and consulting businesses on what their advertisements, promotions and marketing messages should be to optimize their marketing expenditures. You have surveyed the local market, secured the funding, leased a building and have the foundation in place to start your company and make big dollars. Now you must take on Human Resource activities. You will require a staff of six people; Two business development officers to find, meet and communicate with clients. Business development employees should have in-depth experience in networking with private businesses and governments and must be very strong with communication skills; one to one conversations, group meetings, presentations, interacting with government officials, etc. BD officers must also be well-organized, be clean cut and presentable and must also be willing to travel extensively. One BD officer will be the senior development boss with the second person serving as supporting staff. Three graphic designers to develop concepts, sketch ideas, develop marketing slogans, etc. Graphic Designers must be well schooled and experienced in all the latest IT programs and technologies (‘photoshop’, adobe PDF readers, publisher, etc) and industry experience is a huge advantage. Designers must be reachable 24-7 as customers requiring communications are usually demanding and make requests at the ‘last minute’. The designers should know how to design logos, be creative with slogans, be highly skilled with printers and scanners and should also be frugal in using company resources (paper, colored ink, etc.). Rev communications will have a senior graphic designer in charge of all concept development, followed by a junior designer. The third designer will be a young student, preferably directly from school with little experience and lots of energy (who can be paid a very modest wage to save company costs). An office assistant to manage calls, emails, pay bills, monitor spending and budgets, etc. There is no requirement for this person to have communications/marketing experience as they will deal with generic office administration matters. This person should be experienced in an office setting and comfortable with managing and flagging budget lines. The office assistant must also be efficient and effective in letter drafting, file management, email correspondence, preparing mail-outs and invoices, handling logistics for meetings and conferences, etc. Given the positions above, answer the following questions; A. What would your recruiting strategy be for the Business Development, Graphic Design and Office Manager positions? Where would you post the job offerings? Would your recruiting be internal or external? B. How would you select your human resources – using interviews, tests (online or paper)? Explain. C. An important HR consideration is evaluating your Rev employees. Would you choose the simple ranking, forced distribution, graphic rating scale or critical incident method as means of evaluating your people? Could you use the same option for all six employees or would one be preferred over another depending on the job? D. Everyone loves payday. Explain how you would pay your six employees using one or a combination of the following; salary based on industry standard, merit pay, skill-based pay, knowledge-based pay, sales commission, gain-sharing program, profit-sharing plan. E. In many cases potential employees are as attracted to the benefits package as they are the salary level. For Rev Communications would you see the value in establishing a wellness program and/or a cafeteria-style benefit plan? (Keep in mind these programs can get to be very expensive, especially for a start-up company such as Rev). F. Employee turnover is a fact of life in the private sector business world. What would Rev’s Replacement chart look like? more

Resolved Question: What can I do with an economics degree?

I'm currently a rising sohpomore at Grinnell College and I'm studying economics. My GPA isn't very high going in this year... it's at about a 3.2 but I plan to work hard and improve it. Grinnell is a tough school and it's significantly more difficult that Podunk Directional State School. It's also ranked 14 in the nation's top liberal arts colleges. Will this count for anything? I'm aware that job market is crap now - but I just want to know how an economics degree stacks up against other degrees competing for the scarce amount of jobs. I actually want to work in business after school, which I know isn't something you'd typically expect out of a liberal arts student. I plan to get some experience with an internship or two. Will an economics degree get my foot in the door? My ultimate goal is to go back to school and work on a MBA, with maybe something like finance. I know a more direct path would be a business degree, but my school doesn't offer them. Would an economics degree be comparable? I've heard different things about the marketability of an economics degree. Somebody told me that a business degree will give you more practical skills and firms would rather hire you instead because of the low training costs. But somebody else told me that business degrees are too common nowadays and an economics degree can get you jobs that a business degree can't. Further, that person told me that an economics degree can get pretty much most business related jobs except the accounting related ones. What sounds more like the truth? more

Voting Question: Which company should I choose my career with?

Hello. I just got my MBA from harvard business school. I got my undergrad from Cornell. I have many different big companies looking interested in having me, but I'm not sure which Company I should apply for a job at. My goals are to have a great career, become really rich (multi millionaire), become a CEO of a fortune 500, retire young, have a wife, and have kids. I know that sounds weird, but they are my goals. I would also like to have a huge mansion and an apartment in NYC, which is where the companies are based. 1. Viacom. I would be a business strategy employee. Viacom is a huge fortune 500 company that owns many media brands such as MTV, nick, tv land, vh1, bet, paramount, etc. My dads friend is an executive at the company and is making multi millions a year. However, the starting pay is super low, and the job growth rate is very low. However, my advantage is that I know an executive. He could possibly have some say as to who gets promoted. I love the location. Silly question, but if I decide to get an apartment at time Warner center, will I be allowed to work at viacom since they are competitors? 2. Forbes ranked this company (not fortune 500 company though) one of the top companies to work for. The company is Boston consulting group. Although they are hq in Boston, they have an office building in NYC. I would be working as a business consultant for companies who need help steering through tough paths to reach there goals. This company pays six figures right out of grad school, and after 10 years with hard work, they can promote you to partner which makes multi millions a year. Many successful people have come from bcg and now are CEOs of there own firms, however, many people stay with the company and become mega rich. 3. One of viacoms competitors, news corporation. News Corp owns fox news and the wall street journal as well as fox media. They are a huge media company. They are located in NYC. I would be working as a business strategy person. They unlike viacom, pay large starting salaries and even larger for hen you are an executive or partner, not as high as boston consulting group though. 4. Time Warner. Time Warner is another huge media company that owns Warner bros. Time and life magazine, time Warner cable, etc. They are a super huge company. They however, have bad job growth rate, and there salaries are low for the industry. However, execs make killings. 5. Walt Disney company. We all know this company. I would again be doing business strategy, however, job growth is good here and the salaries are fine. 6. Boeing. I would work as a financial advisor. They have good salaries and they have great job growth. 7. GE. Now this company can be easy to get in, has good salaries, but has bad job growth due to it being a mega company. 8. Start my own business. This does not mean riches, and this is risky, but if done right, can make a fortune. So I really like viacom because I have a huge connection, but they have bad starting pay and no job growth unless my dads friend has something to do with it. On the other hand, I love Boston consulting group even though they aren't fortune 500 . I was thinking about maybe getting some experience at BCG, make six figures a year, and work my way up to partner after around ten years and make a couple million a year. After being partner for some time, I would apply for a senior position at viacom and work my way up to executive. That is what my dads friend did. He got business experience and lots of cash from a firm, and then applied for a senior position at viacom. He then got promoted to executive. Should I do this? Thanks. more

Voting Question: Will I get into University of Maryland?

My weighted GPA cumulative through high school is about a 3.74 and my extracurriculars are good. I participate in multiple sports and clubs both inside and outside of school and do community service on a regular basis. My SAT scores were pretty good. I received a 1940 composite score with a 640 on math, 570 on reading, and 730 on writing with a 10 on the essay. I'm not too sure of my exact rank in my class but I would assume I'm in the top 10% or at least very close to it in a class of about 500. I'm looking to major in business and Maryland is one of my top choices as of right now along with UVirginia, UDelaware, UNorth Carolina, and James Madison U. Do you think I have a good chance of being accepted? more

Resolved Question: Would you vote for Joe Arpaio for any national office? Which one?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Arpaio Arpaio was born in Springfield, Massachusetts to Italian-American[3] parents. Arpaio's mother died while giving birth to him, and Arpaio was raised by his father, a grocery store owner. Arpaio completed high school and worked in his father's business until age 18 when he enlisted in the United States Army.[4] Arpaio served in the Army from 1950 to 1954 in the Medical Detachment Division and was stationed in France for part of the time as a military policeman.[5] Following his honorable discharge from the army in 1954, Arpaio moved to Washington, D.C. and became a police officer, moving in 1957 to Las Vegas, Nevada. He served as a police officer in Las Vegas for six months before being appointed as a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, which later became part of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).[6] During his 25-year tenure with the DEA, he was stationed in both Turkey and Mexico, and advanced through the ranks to the position of head of the DEA's Arizona branch.[7] more

Voting Question: Should I apply to Upenn?

Hi, I am going to be a senior this year. I have a very strong interest to apply to the University of Pennsylvania. My SAT score is a 2390, I have received 800s on the following SAT subject tests: Math level II, Writing, and Chemistry. I have received a 5 on the following AP tests: Chemistry, Biology, Calculus AB, Statistics, English Language, and Macroeconomics. I have over 200 hours of community service, and work experience as a tutor. I am a National Merit finalist, officer in my school's National Honor Society, and an officer in DECA (my school's business club, however I was elected officer at the end of my junior year). Also, I was concertmaster of my region's orchestra, and made the all-state orchestra in Texas. The thing that worries me is my GPA was a 3.71 (out of 4) , and my Academic Average was a 5.1 (out of 6...for those of you who aren't familiar with this system, ~5.35 is top 20 people, ~5.8 is valedictorian level). My school is one of the top 100 in the US; however, my class rank is still in the 60s (therefore I am barely in the top 10%). I am planning to apply early decision to UPenn with a strong intrest in pursuing a business major...but I fear that my class rank/extracurriculars are not sufficient. Any input would be greatly appreciated. more

Resolved Question: What Master's school and program should I choose after getting BBA Economics and Finance with a minor in Math?

I need to plan for my master's school and program to choose, and hope to get some suggestions from you folks. (1) I have Bachelor's Degrees in Economics and Finance from a public university (no good ranking). (2) My current GPA is 3.8 (3) I like math but only took a few: Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Derivative, and Probability. (4) I don't have experience in professional business working environment. My speaking English is limited but I am able to understand perfectly. (5) Hope the master school is affordable with a decent ranking. Hope the city where the school located is not difficult to find a job. I am so confused with MBA, Applied Math, Finance Math, Statistics, or even Actuary. BTW, how long do I stay in the state so that I am eligible to pay for the tuition at the local resident level? Voting Question: What do you think about this letter?

Dear Public Education, We’ve known each other for many years, and for many years we’ve been generous to you, providing you a large portion of our public revenue so you can accomplish your goal of educating our kids. I consider you a friend, and I support your efforts. You have done much good. A true friend, as we all know, is honest even when it hurts. Call it an intervention, a “come to Jesus” meeting. Call it a moment of painful candor, but right now I must be a true friend. You have become greedy, selfish, and presumptuous. I have become tired of your perennial self-righteous demands for more and more, your assumption that you must be insulated from the adverse economic environment around you, and your propensity for tantrum-throwing when things don’t fall your way. After years of demanding more and more, it’s clear that the system can’t be sustained, especially in a rough economic climate. Nobody – not even the haters – like to see teachers getting their salaries reduced, elementary schools having to close down, and programs eliminated. I value education. Growing minds of children and giving them fertile opportunities for learning is one of our greatest investments. But what I’d like you to see and understand is that every dollar spent toward education is not equal, and when times get tough it’s important to eliminate the less effective dollars from education. You have assumed that traditional Public Education is the only legitimate way to educate children. You shun home-schooling, see charter schools as thieves of public money, turn your nose at private schools, and shudder at the thought of increased school choice. The traditional model of administering education is becoming outmoded and you must adapt to, accept, and embrace the changes. Furthermore, by allowing unions to infiltrate the teachers’ ranks, you have allowed them tenure, which guarantees the worst teachers can’t be fired for being the worst teachers. Have you ever wondered how much this policy alone waters down the education of our children? You could make your industry much more legitimate and effective if you allowed yourself to get rid of the dead weight by freeing yourself from the “safety” of unions and embracing new possibilities by rewarding those who do well. You are able to run your own elections, a luxury afforded only to the tin horn dictators and banana republic despots in the world. You hold school events for parents on voting day in an effort to load the polls with school-friendly voters. You hold them at your own location, on a date of your own choosing, and you send literature promoting your cause home with children. And then, when you don’t win the election, somehow it’s because the voters were uninformed, the opposition was lying, or some reason other than what you are asking for is too much. Additionally, you have a long history of believing that applying business principles in education won’t work on a large scale, yet you haven’t allowed it to be tried significantly. Yet, we see large companies consolidating services when needed, cutting back when necessary, and making tough choices – not because they wanted to, but because they had to in order to survive. We are indeed in a crisis, but it’s not because folks aren’t generous enough, and it’s not because the legislature is made up of a bunch of backward tightwads. It’s because the system has become large, outdated, inefficient, and resistant to inevitable change. You have a choice. You can change and become nimble enough to absorb the fluctuations of the economy. Or, you can refuse to move — like the old man sitting in the shadow of Mt. Saint Helens who refused to leave and is now buried under a thick layer of ash – and perish. I sincerely want you to survive. But just know that your survival depends on you, not me. It’s time to grow up, join the real world, and move ahead with new energy, a sense of humility, and an optimistic outlook that change doesn’t mean death. On the contrary. It means new life, new ways of operating and growing. Sincerely, more

Resolved Question: How far university of Westminster is reputed comparing to other universities in UK?

I applied at Westminster University, Business school, but I discovered recently its UK ranking is low, 96 % and been around that since 2008 till 2011. In my county university ranking has nothing to do with university reputation, most good universities in my country are not high ranked and no one looks at the ranking list, most people apply in my country to universities based on the university reputation. So I wanted to know if that is the way also in the UK. and how Westminster is reputed in the UK. Its late for me now to apply for this year at any other university, I would have to wait for the next year. more

Resolved Question: Which colleges would be good safeties, matches, and reaches?

Hanx a lot. * 1 week ago Additional Details I've already done college matching forms online. They either give me 200 schools to choose from or if I really narrow my search it gives me none. Also, they don't really give me a feel of what the college is like or if it is good for me. I don't mind going far from home, Chicago, and I'd like a school with at least a club water polo team. I don't want money to really affect my decision until it really must, but it shouldn't be to much of a problem. more

I'm about to start my senior year of high school, I am Jewish but white so not a minority, I have a 4.0 GPA, I take the hardest classes at my school (AP), I will graduate with 6 AP classes (US history, literature, language, physics, chemistry, calculus), I have taken latin and french 2 years, I am an officer of FCCLA for 3 years, numerous volunteer activities, internship at a photography studio office (want to major in business management, my boss if the office manager), in latin club, FBLA, FCCLA, chemistry club, in the national honor society, a national merit certificate recipient, rank in the teens among 520 in my class, but i don't play a sport, but my problem is my sat scores: math- 530, reading- 530, and writing- 560. I' trying really hard to get 600's when I take the sat in october, but if i don't get them up into the 600s (I'm not a very good standardized test taker) do I still have a chance of getting into Emory?oh, and I have a 97.925 GPA more

Voting Question: How to earn prestigous scholarship?

Hi, thanks for helping me out I am going to be a sophmore in high school and would really like to attend a prestigous university. Although I probably won't qualify for financial aid, I would like to attend a $50,000+ a year school such as Harvard or Notre Dame with a full-ride, or close to it, scholarship. I currently have all A's in my honors level courses, and am beginning AP this coming year. I am ranked in the top 5 students of the 650 in my grade, based on GPA. In June after eighth grade, I took the ACT and earned a 29, and my score will most likely have increased this year, but I have not recieved it yet. I was a varsity athlete this year, and plan to continue through high school, but am probably not good enough to play in college. Are there any specific scholarships you know of that I could aim for? I plan to major in either business or law. Thank you so much for your time and feedback!I am really not sure how to keep it up for three more years, but hope to, so thank you. more

Resolved Question: Which colleges should I take a look at?

Hanx a lot.I've already done college matching forms online. Hanx for the responses and please keep them coming. more

Resolved Question: I plan to graduate with a B.A in Int'l business at 19...whats better: work now & gain exp. or MBA grad school?

I was planning to go to grad school and that way i would have more credentials to show at such a young age. However i had a talk with my friend who has a M.A in Engineering and told me a lot of his friends and people in general are pursuing MBAs and everyone has them so there's no point in completing on right now plus Exp. counts more and it gets you up the ranks quicker. Plus employers know i'm smart but am i mature to hold a job, so exp. would be better. Your thoughts...?I'll be graduating with a 3.3 GPA if everything goes as planned with a Minor in Spanish which is spoken and written properly, I have 2 semesters of French with a grade of100 and 95 respectively. In addition, I have also taken a semester of Japanese and I my main job search market was going to be the U.S, then Latin America ( I know my U.S degree is worth way more over here) or Europe. more

Resolved Question: Why is government run services like Post Office so incompetent, will health care become the same?

I paid extra and purchased full price an expensive item and paid for Expedited delivery so I can have the item delivered by today for my nieces bday tomorrow. The tracking was updated early in the morning saying "out for delivery." I've done enough business w/ the post office to know that means the mailman has it and it's "OUT FOR DELIVERY". Mailman delivers mail, no package, doesn't knock on my door to sign for it and leaves no slip to pick up from post office. I call the post office, they just shrug and say there's nothing they can do. I call the main post office, angry incompetent minority worker just keeps saying "mam if it didn't come today it means you have to wait for it to be delivered another day". Um...ok...I'd never get that kind of response from Fed Ex. You can NEVER get anywhere with government agencies, NEVER. Now they'll be running our health care. Good luck trying to get them to pay for a procedure they choose not to, or to give you an appointment with a particular doctor you want, or to schedule the surgery quickly instead of having to wait for months like in other countries where gov runs health care. Thoughts? Do you think health care will be run as badly as all the other departments, including our worse schools in the world where we pay more than any other country yet rank one of the lowest.FLSwamp - most of my "daily mail" delivered is JUNK MAIL the post office makes a fortune delivering, so yeah they make quite a bit delivering my mail in case you think they're doing it at a loss.Excuse me but expedited deliver is over $20 (plus they make money every single day on every mailbox even if you get no "mail" solely on the massive junk mail they deliver). As of this moment, the tracking says out for delivery, it was not delivered, the post office has no idea where it is and thinks I'm the difficult one. I purchased an Apple electronic product and will go empty handed to my niece's bday. Nice. more

Freshman year only but I am going back in junior year. How do I look so far and what else should I do in order to get accepted into the Air Force Academy? Also, do they prefer IB or AP classes?Actually I've posted it 9 times. And I'll ask as many times as I want. The feedback is good, that's why I keep asking. I want to get as much as I can before the start of the next school year. Sometimes people say the same stuff, sometimes they say different stuff. I'm trying to make sure I don't miss anything. more

Resolved Question: Questions about the Naval Academy?

I am a junior at Fatima High School, I am in the top 20% and am in all dual credit classes. I have just attained the rank of Eagle Scout this week and am in the NHS. I have been elected to Yearbook and was appointed to Business Manager. I have also placed 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 7th in MO FBLA Competition. I am in varsity golf and soccer. I am doing everything I can to get in, and I truely want this more than anything, so if anyone has any tips or pointers let me know. I am also considering joining the Sea Cadets program and was wondering if a recruiter or Blue and Gold officer would be able to help me. Thanks! Zac more
