DATA PREVIEW: German Mar Ifo Business Sentiment Seen Easing
FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)--German business sentiment is expected to have edged down in March after unexpected rises during the early months of the year, as the euro strengthens. The Ifo business confidence survey index, due 0900 GMT Wednesday, is forecast to have fallen to 103.4, reversing February's surprise gain to 104.1, according to a Dow Jones Newswires poll of 11 economists. "We see the index moderately down, despite resilience in recent months, due to an even stronger euro in March as well as continued tension in commodity prices and additional signs of a slowdown in the U.S.," Gilles Moec, economist at Bank of America in London said. Earlier in March, the euro hit an all-time high against the dollar of close to 1.60. The Ifo index measuring current business conditions is also expected to inch down to 109.5 from 110.3 in February, while business expectations should ease to 97.7, from 98.2 in February, according to the poll. more
Residents, businesses affected by poor conditions of road
SHREVE -- Rod Leathers and his co-workers make jokes about roller coasters as they look outside at the potholes near the Shreve Dari-Bar, watching drivers hopelessly swerve to miss them.
"We sit out here and watch it swallow cars," said Leathers, who owns the Dari-Bar and is president of the Shreve Business Association.
The potholes are a growing concern among motorists, village officials and businesses that rely on their regular pool of customers. Leathers said the customers are still coming, but not without difficulty.
Mayor Keith Rickett said he has received multiple complaint calls about the roads. He said he's been told repairs will be made before July 31, which means not before the annual Spring Migration Sensation (April 5) and the Memorial Day parade. more
Burley goes online with video promos
Judging by the arrival of Pacific Ethanol, Dot Foods and Dutchmen, it appears Burley has been popping up on businesses' radar across the country recently. But that doesn't mean the city is satisfied. With City Council approval paving the way, Burley will now appear on Mayors.tv - a Web site that hosts promotional videos for cities. The city of Boise, for example, has 11 videos emphasizing a range of strengths - everything from economic development to parks and recreation to the hallowed 2007 Fiesta Bowl football game."It's more of an economic development tool than anything," said Mark Mitton, Burley's city administrator.Burley will probably feature about six videos aimed at attracting even more businesses, he said.Considering all the great things Mini-Cassia has to offer - outdoor recreation, affordable living, a robust economy - and how little most people in other parts of the country know about the area, a few scenes of Mayor Jon Anderson talking up Burley's infrastructure or the VikingMan triathlon might be a good idea, officials said.Posting videos costs the city nothing. more
Business pessimism continues to grow
A new survey shows that pessimism about the general business situation in New Zealand continues to grow.
Auckland Chamber of Commerce says 64% of the thousand small to medium sized businesses surveyed think the business situation will deteriorate over the next six months.
That is nearly twice as many than in December and three times more than a year ago.
The survey also found businesses expect significantly less demand from customers here, and that interest rates will rise over the next year.
However, Auckland Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Michael Barnett says rather than sitting back and saying these are tough times, there are things businesses can do to help themselves.
Barnett says businesses need to invest in people and good marketing. more

Okay so due to my family's financial situation I pretty much need a full ride to get to college (apart from loans which we would rather stay out of). I'm going to do partial of the IB Program: Biology, Math Studies, Spanish, Physics. I'm applying for NHS next year and the year after. I will easily make All-Region either this year or next year. The date was June 1, 1921, when "Black Wallstreet," the name fittingly given to one of the most affluent all-black communities in America, was bombed from the air and burned to the ground by mobs of envious whites. In a period spanning fewer than 12 hours, a once thriving 36-black business district in northern Tulsa lay smoldering-A model community destroyed, and a major Africa-American economic movement resoundingly defused. The night's carnage left some 3,000 African Americans dead, and over 600 successful businesses lost. Among these were 21 churches, 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores and two movie theaters, plus a hospital, a bank, a post office, libraries, schools, law offices, a half-dozen private airplanes and even a bus system. As could be expected, the impetus behind it all was the infamous Ku Klux Klan, working in consort with ranking city officials, and many other sympathizers. In their self-published book, Black Wallstreet: A lost Dream, and its companion video documentary, Black Wallstreet: A Black Holocaust in America!, the authors have chronicled for the very first time in the words of area historians and elderly survivors what really happened there on that fateful summer day in 1921 and why it happened. Wallace similarly explained to Black Elegance why this bloody event from the turn of the century seems to have had a recurring effect that is being felt in predominately Black neighborhoods even to this day. The best description of Black Wallstreet, or Little Africa as it was also known, would be to liken it to a mini-Beverly Hills. It was the golden door of the Black community during the early 1900s, and it proved that African Americans had successful infrastructure. That's what Black Wallstreet was about moreVoting Question: i feel so...i don't know how to put it into words...?

http://finance.yahoo.com/taxes/article/108952/rat-out-a-tax-cheat-collect-a-reward?mod=taxes-advice_strategy If you knew coworkers, former bosses or exes who cheated on their taxes, would you turn them in? The Internal Revenue Service can make it worth your while. As tax season nears, we all want to get as much money back from the IRS as possible. And while taking advantage of this year's new tax breaks will put some extra money in your pocket, snitching on a tax cheat could make you rich. In a recent poll from the IRS Oversight Board, 13% of those surveyed think cheating is acceptable, up from 9% in 2008. As the recession puts the squeeze on household finances, the lure of fudging on a tax return is even greater. "In a down economy, the temptation to cheat on taxes is much stronger because people are in more desperate situations more often," said Bill Raabe, a tax expert at Ohio State University's business school. More people may be just as desperate to turn in a business, rat out an ex–spouse or report a colleague to collect a reward. Small–time crooks: The IRS's informant program has been around for more than 140 years. If you suspect a person is committing tax fraud and report it, you could receive up to 15% of the amount that has been underpaid, with a maximum award of $10 million. Informants are required to complete a claim, which is available on the IRS Web site, and mail it to the agency or call the IRS tip line at 1–800–829–0433. While you must reveal your identity to the IRS, your name will not be made public. Because there is no minimum requirement for the amount in question, anyone can file a report in hopes of making an extra buck off of a cheating boyfriend or obnoxious neighbor. "You probably get a mix of people with the informant program. You'll have spouses –– or ex–spouses probably –– as well as ex–employees turning in their employers," said Raabe. "But you really have to think, 'is it worth my time to report that guy?'" To weed out the bogus reports from bitter ex–husbands and disgruntled employees, the IRS requires informants to fill out a detailed form and provide intimate information about the tax evader, including the person's social security number, address and date of birth. "That's a lot of information that I'm not sure the average person has available," said Gagnon. "They're kind of asking the person to be a detective or work for them and go hunt all this information down, and I don't know how comfortable people would feel trying to do that." Big cheaters: In 2006, the IRS really started cracking down on big time cheaters and introduced a new whistle–blower program, in which informants are paid a minimum of 15% and a maximum of 30% of the amount owed. But there's a catch: In order to collect a reward, the taxes, penalties and interest in dispute must add up to at least $2 million. And if the suspected tax evader is an individual, his or her annual gross income must exceed $200,000. So far, the new incentives have been effective. The IRS has received tips from about 476 informants identifying 1,246 taxpayers in fiscal year 2008, the first full year the program was implemented. "The program is already attracting an enormous number of quality tips," said Paul Scott, a former Department of Justice trial attorney and current owner of law firm Paul D. Scott, where he represents whistle–blowers. "The volume of claims and/or tips they have been receiving with really substantial documentation or support has increased dramatically since the inception of this program." Scott said that since the new program began, his firm has received claims from whistle–blowers involving billions of dollars in taxes, penalties and interest. Who snitches?: In this program, the most common informants tend to be dissatisfied middle–ranking employees in big companies, said Tim Gagnon, an academic specialist of accounting at Northeastern University. "I think it happens more in middle management than upper management," he said. "They're workers in the middle ranks who feel frustrated about what's going on and are not advancing or don't think they have a shot of moving up, because otherwise, it's hard to break loyalty." Stephen Whitlock, director of the IRS Whistleblower Office, said that informants have had some connection to the taxpayer but they are not always close acquaintances. They have typically been employees, investors or business associates. He also said many claims are for substantially more than the $2 million threshold and involve businesses or very wealthy individuals. While the names of informants aren't made public, Gagnon said that a person's identity often becomes obvious based on the proof provided. "Certain records show up and they can figure out where they're coming from," he said. "It's gotten a lot more anonymous and there's a lot more hiding in the shadows, but can you really stay in the shadows when you come forward to clai moreResolved Question: Which CA school is better for business major?

So I kind of just realized this is the kind of responsibility, excitement and role I want to take in my life. Unfortunately, I'm 22, which means I've missed my chance to enroll in ROTC and join the ranks in the Air Force. So I guess what I am asking are where do I go from here? Navy or Army sound like my only options and I heard I have a chance of being able to possibly get a pilot slot up to the age of 27 or so through there. Then again, I am not sure and basic searches on our favorite search engines don't really answer my questions either. I'm also not sure about this, but applying to another countries army/navy/air force might work. I noticed the US allows international applicants for the Air Force, so I'm assuming others may, as well. I have finished one year of college in America (so most of my generals are done), studied abroad in Thailand for 3 years bouncing around schools and majors, and have dropped out running my own business from home. Please read the following which will take a short time and identify what the invisible hand is? Ephraim Nuvenya and his wife Lahja are the proud owners of Zozo’s Fruit & Vegetables. The business is situated close to the taxi ranks at the Babanango Central Area, about ten kilometers from the kwaChivezi Tribal Authority. Babanango is surrounded by a number of farms producing fresh meat and vegetables, and gthese farms serve as the main suppliers for Zozo’s. Ephraim and Lahja realized about five yars ago that there are needs in the community for a daily supply of fresh potatoes, tomatoes, cabbages, onions, carrots, green beans and other fruit and vegetables. They were convinced that they could make a difference to the well-being of the people in the community (by supplying nutritious food) and at the same time earn a good living. After careful consideration, they decided that Lahja would resign from her job as a domestic worker, and Ephraim would resign as store clerk at the local agency of the regional co-operative. This was the beginning of Zozo’s Fruit & Vegetables. Although Ephraim and Lahja had no formal training in business, they realized that continued support by the community was essential to their existence as shop owners, and decided on an inviting business motto: “Come again.” Although they are the only fruit and vegetable shop in the area at present, they decided to keep their prices as low as possible in order to serve the community – and perhaps to prevent other similar shops from opening in the area. They plan to stay in business for a long time, so that this business will help them with their children’s schooling. They feel that as long as the community is satisfied with their products and services, and while their prices are reasonable, they will have the support of the community, and they are confident that competitors will find it difficult to enter the market. moreResolved Question: what career path is best for me?
At 40 I am making a caeer change but it is so hard to decide I have taken numerous career tests and they all come back to what I have done and burned out. my likes are travel, working by myself, My start time my dislikes are manual labor, being tied to the same spot all day everyday I am a restless person, I am likeable person.Office politics get on my nerves and the people are so fake. i can't do it anymore. In the manual labor field, people have no amition and try to one up everybody else and expect you to believe they slept with 10 girls the night before and smoked a pile of weed 3 feet high. You raise your hand to go to the restroom like a child. A buzzer rings when you stop and start work like robots. my history of employment includes- Air traffic controller (US Navy) after i got out I worked foundries and steel mills went to school for drafting all of these I did not like. Went back to school again for Computer science/technician did this for years working my way up the ranks doing field service repair to small to medium sized business networks. I moved on to Network Administrator to director of MIS. Career was going great I was the boss controlled 4 locations then September 11th happened the company I was at went out of business in the wake of this. A felony record of mine from years before for an assault popped only had probation never jail. This conviction never bothered me in the past, I had changed my ways and went to college in the mean time. Searching for employment I was turned down many times with my salary was to high I would never be happy at what they could give me, or the worst one my assault conviction. Seems I am blacklisted from working for anybody. So I decided to go get my CDL until things could change and I could support my family. I wrecked my semi and decided that wasnt the best career goal for me, so I decided to go back to information technology. no one was raising their hand to hire me so I started contracting and after about a year of this I found a good steady contract. I loved it!!! I did Field Service repair in Hospitals. The only downfall it was 24/7 work but I didnt mind I was paid extremely well. I got to travel some to take care of other territories for other workers. I did this job for a few years until the recession hit and my contract was cut. I went back to school again, this time for motorcycle repair. Year long school figured I could do it until the economy picked up. I didnt really like the motorcycle work and decided i would go back to IT again after graduation with an added skill of motorcycle repair so I could work on my own bike and maybe a few others for extra money. The day i graduated I had a heart attack, it was diagnosed as stress related so now I have to find something not hard work low stress and getting to travel some (field service fly somewhere fix a project fly home) preferrably a home office set my own schedule type of work. moreResolved Question: AIR FORCE ROTC Program?

I am a 30 year old male, college graduate in business management, with 5 years of management experience under my belt. Even so I still have no solid career. I am living at home with my parents and hating every moment of it. I would move but can't due to my current employment situation and being about 40k in debt. Everyday that passes by I become more and more frustrated with my current situation. I have been seeking new employment but we all know that there are limited opportunities available at the current time plus I haven't really decided what I want to do (When I grow up). Career wise that is... I recently sat down to brainstorm about what I can imagine myself doing, and enjoying, in 10 years. The answers on my pad were practicing law, federal government, investigation, corporate management, traveling, etc... So then I asked myself, “How do I get there?” I immediately thought the military. Mind you I almost joined the Marines out of high school but decided on the college route instead. So I did my research, figured out that I could enlist as an officer and get into Administration, Intelligence, or Legal/Law enforcement. Everything sounded great; I was really excited (still am) about the job possibilities, benefits, and everything the service has to offer. Yet after speaking to a friend of mine who was in fact an Army recruiter but is now in processing, I come to find out that due to the fact that I had a DUI two years back I cannot enlist as an officer because I will not be able to obtain security clearance. I would have to enlist as a soldier (not officer) and gain my clearance over a 1-2 year period. After that I could then apply for OCS and be on my way. After learning of this I was a little disappointed. But I am still seriously considering enlisting. It may sound funny but I feel as if I have had a calling. One telling me that, "this is my time, this is what I need to do for myself." I don’t understand it completely to tell you the truth. My mother and father think I’m nuts, worst decision ever. Sister and brother in law have mixed feelings. All my friends support, and just feel I should do what I want to do. I guess my questions are: Am I crazy to want to do this at 30 with the credentials I do have? Is it true I will have to enlist as a soldier rather than an officer? How long before I can become an officer? Is it worth it? If so, what rank would I begin at? E-1, -2, -3? I think I have written enough for now. All thoughts are appreciated. I have lived abroad for many years and have gained a lot of work experience from being self employed in the UK and abroad i have exceptional management experience and have employed many people and have contributed to the growth of four different companies. Now my problem is i have all this experience and transferable skills at senior management level and could be placed into most management positions as i have the skills and experience, but yet when i apply for various positions i can match the job title perfectly and perhaps 90% of the job description in most cases, i just get rejection after rejection. The problem i have is, i have been self employed since i left school at 16, i am now 37 with bags of experience in business, been out the country for over 5 years, i have never needed to do a CV, but due to the crisis over the past couple of years i find myself looking for a job for the first time! My Cv has been checked by various agencies and they say its fantastic some great achievements, all very well, but i am gutted i'm not getting a chance for an interview. So back to my question "why are recruitment agencies and employers being so dam ruthless." I understand agencies work on commission etc, but to meet a 100% of the criteria stated in the job description is almost impossible, not only for me, but for most people i'm sure. I feel if you want to try out a new job in a different industry forget it because every position states you have to have proven experience in that field of work. To me as a former boss it doesn't matter if you feel you can do the job, unless you have been selling cars and you want to be a brain surgeon, then yes, you study for that and then become qualified etc, but, what if you have not studied, perhaps you don't have the money to study, but yet, you have the talent and experience you've gained from working up the ranks from a young age and you can transfer those skills to many different industries. Lets look at sales - sales is basically common sense, it doesn't matter what the product it is, its how you sell it, there is no difference in selling a car as to selling a house just different paper work and procedures, but, "how long does it take to learn those procedures?", not long, a week or so!! So you can see my frustration in these recruitment agencies and employers, they should be more flexible, there is so much talent out there that just doesn't get recognized, millions of people are unemployed, my way of thinking is different as i used to give people a chance to prove there worth even if they didn't quite fit all the job description, they were enthusiastic and determined and well motivated and could demonstrate the will to work, how could i say no!! My conclusion is the recruitment agencies and perhaps the many company's out there seeking new recruits, i say this; don't throw away talent, 3 seconds reading a CV is ridiculous, don't say you don't have time to go through hundreds of CV's i suggest you make time, you might just find the next best employee!!! No disrespect to those who have a degree, there should be new system like for every 3 years of work experience counts for 1 year at university, so someone with 9 years of work experience in their line of work is equivalent to having a degree + you have the added value of having actually worked, this could be fair to those who didn't chose the university route. May be things have to change, the rules are to tight and incredibly competitive, no wonder there are so many talented people out there that just cant get that opportunity with degrees and the many without!!!! I am a Junior standing student going to a sub school of Purdue and Indiana University known as IPFW University and I am wanting to join the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corp program so I have to switch to a school that has that program... My two choices are IUPUI and Purdue University because both have AF ROTC and a well known business school! I have a good GPA but I am distraught over going to IUPUI and having to commute to the main IU campus (1 to 1.5 hours) once a week to attend the ROTC program, plus having to live 10 minutes off campus and commute into campus, OR going to Purdue and being able to walk to all my classes and living right on campus as well as to ROTC. Purdue may sound like a better deal for the ROTC, but Purdue's accounting program looks like a bunch of management degree classes thrown in with 4 upper level accounting courses and there is your accounting degree, whereas IU Kelly has like 4 management courses with ALL the rest being accounting or finance courses that are so valuable! Does the type of schooling you do even matter in the work force after graduation?? Or does graduating and having that "accounting degree" is all that matters? especially when its from a 21 overall ranking management school like purdue... verses IU Kelly having a 7 rated business school and 10'th best accounting program in the nation.... Where should I attend?! I want to serve and the position I want to shoot for is only in the Air Force! moreResolved Question: AIR FORCE AND BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIEs?
I'm a junior in high school and i'm thinking about joining the AF-RTOC program at either BU, NYU, syracuse, UNC, or UCONN. I want to major in Finance/Business management. I think the engineering background will help me when looking for employment after my service with the air force as an officer. Only thing is will I be able to get my master's degree and is it of equal quality if I were to go this route. I understand that most of these companies are looking for the ivy league business grads but would graduating with a business degree plus the air force background along with the other experiences it comes with give me a good shot at executive positions or other financial positions in a company. My biggest worry is i'll go to school, get my degree, maybe even get my masters degree, do my time in the air force maybe move up a rank or two, leave the air force to get a civilian job and end up working in a factory, or driving trucks, or some mediocrity job. Not that there's something wrong with that it's just I have the knowledge to do very well maybe even ivy league material but the Air force really interest me but I don't want it to hinder my chances in the real world of employment later on. could some one the words in to grade 8 level please here it is please and thanks Major Walsh, of the Northwest Mounted Police, was born at Prescott, County of Grenville, in 1842. In 1866, when the Fenian Raid aroused the patriotism of so many Canadians, Mr. Walsh joined the volunteers, he having previously graduated at the Military School at Kingston. His promotion was rapid, he being created ensign and subsequently acting- adjutant, next becoming Captain of the Lisgar Rifles. Entering the Cavalry School, he won well merited praise from the officer commanding, Colonel Jenyns, who declared him to be the best drilled Canadian who had graduated from the school. In 1872, he organized a troop of cavalry, which remained under his command until the following year, when he proceeded to the Northwest with the first detachment of Mounted Police, his position being that of Subordinate Inspector. During the following year he returned to Ontario on business connected with his military duties, and was promoted to the rank of Superintendent and Inspector. In May, 1874, he departed for the "Great Lone Land," with his second detachment. and marched from Dufferin to the Rocky Mountains, a distance of 1,400 miles, establishing the post now so well known as Fort Walsh. He has taken a leading part in negotiating treaties with the Indians, and has upon several occasions of great danger acted with a promptitude and decision, which marks him as an officer of the class especially fitted to deal with the treacherous savages. On the arrival of Sitting Bull on Canadian territory, the situation became one of great peril, requiring caution, boldness and tact. Major Walsh so conducted matters that he became known over the continent as " Sitting Bull's Boss." During his sojourn among the aborigines, the Major has acquired the Sioux and Blackfeet languages. By the Peigans he is known as'' White Chief of the Assiniboines," and by the Blackfeet as "The one who ties," having upon one occasion shackled four of their chiefs. moreResolved Question: Best business school out of these colleges?

Hi, I'm currently a junior in high school so I'll be applying for college next year. My ultimate goal is to try to get a free ride to college (nothing Ivy League, a school more like BU for example). I do pretty well academically (rank 1 out 452) with a 4.0 GPA. I would like to do a summer program at the college I want to go to (a one week intro to business) but I don't know if my apparent interest in the school might mean that they won't give me as much money to go there. My rationale for this belief is that they might think I'll go there regardless of what they give me and thus will not waste a scholarship on me. So, any input on this? Thanks. moreResolved Question: Can anyone help me with ideas on writing a 1000 word paper on respect?
So, to give a background of what happened : I'm in the Marine Corps, a Cpl actually. Yesterday after work, one of my junior marines was pulled aside by a Sgt and there was yelling involved. I politely asked what exactly was going on, not only to be informed about my junior marines, but also so I could fix the problem. I was told to mind my own business, so I stated that I had a right to know, so I could correct the problem, and the Sgt eventually agreed and told me to follow her. What I thought was going to be an informative conversation, started with me getting screamed at for something I was oblivious about. Apparently the Sgt had told my marine 2 days ago to do something, which he had yet to do, but I was unaware of this fact. I asked the Sgt to please calm down, I knew she was angry, but I just needed to know what needed to be fixed. She told me I couldn't speak to her that way, got right up in my face, and screamed "shut up". I looked at the Sgt like she lost her mind and said "uh, f**k you". I am now getting charged and have to write 1000 word paper on respect. First off, I can't think of what to write, because yes, while I had a moment of lapsed judgment, I still don't feel that us, both being adults, couldn't handle this on a different level. First off, why should I always take the disrespect and belittling? I'm a human being as well. I was able to hold my own, listening to all she had to say, but then I got told to shut up. I believe there are other ways to tell someone to hush their mouths because you don't want to listen to them...but shut up? Really? I understand my way of doing things was not very appropriate, so I understand the charge sheet, and the paper writing (though I believe I graduated both high school and college and assumed done with essays) but I don't understand why I get punished because she's been in this job longer than I have been and picked up Sgt recently because she got extra points for re-enlisting. Okay, so yes, she's of a higher grade, but... respect is respect, there's no if, ands or buts. Why everyone can't just show respect is beyond me...and why I have to be treated like dirt and take it, but then say one (extremely unprofessional) disrespectful thing and they go cry about it. My SgtMaj always says "it makes you tougher - all this disrespect", so please, what happened? Why are those of a higher rank not tougher in skin, but rather fragile to the point where they can't take a little verbal abuse, but I'm suppose to be slaughtered verbally and stand up straight like nothing just happened. Hypocritical? Yes. And I can't seem to write about it, because I don't disagree with what I did, so...any ideas?I AM going to write the paper. I just need ideas on WHAT to write it about. I can't THINK of anything because I don't feel that I was WRONG. I also understand this is not the place for me, but I didn't realize that until I joined but not because of the yelling. I understand yelling, but there doesn't need to be belittling. It's unnecessary. Thank you for your input though, I just need ideas on what exactly to write about in this situation. I can do definitions...but my mentality right now is that I want the respect I'm suppose to give. I obviously can't write my paper on that, so I just need a little shove in the right direction, so I'm not going in circles trying to please people. moreResolved Question: Can you look over my english oration?
I have to make an oration in front of the freshmen class, each of us get assigned a school subject, I got assigned sports. Then we have to write a 5-7 minute oration proving something is unethical. Here is my rough draft, opinion and tips are greatly appreciated...THANKS Did you hear? Oh My God!!! I can’t believe that happened! Have you heard? I’m sure you all want to know what I’m talking about right? I’ve gotten you interested. Gossip gossip gossip! Everyone loves it! It puts you on the edge of your seat. Weather its reading it in a magazine such as US Weekly, watching it on The Insider, reading about it on perezhitlon.com a top ranked gossip site or even an educational newspaper, the enquirer, us as humans are fueled by gossip. Statistics have shown that it would take only 30 minutes to sell the amount of magazine needed to cover a complete football pitch. What is gossip and why do we love it so much? Is there any real truth in gossip? Gossip gives eyes and voice to everything. Weather it about Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt or the now infamous Tiger Woods. Today I will narrow the topic of gossip down towards gossip towards top athletes. Because of intense media and public interest in the private lives of sports celebrities, these talented athletes must constantly be on guard so as not to be exploited by tabloid journalism. Famous athletes strive for greatness. Famous athletes reach for perfection. Famous athletes are determined to win the race, to sink the winning shot, to hit the home run. However, once they reach the top, once they achieve hero status, top athletes often abuse their greatness. Numerous top athletes nowadays have allowed fame to get to their heads, and believe they can do anything because they are “indestructible” or invincible and above the law. For example, the popular Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods is an American professional golfer whose achievements to date rank him among the most successful golfers of all time. Currently the number one in the world, he was the highest-paid professional athlete in 2008, having earned an about $110 million from winnings and endorsements. All that fame must have gone to his head in one way or another. Right? For instance I’m sure you’ve all heard that he cheated on his wife. It’s not my place to judge, because most relationships go through some sort of problems and most men go through a bit of temptation, but it seems like Tiger has become a bit of a “cheetah.” It seems like he had a tad more than a bit of temptation when he had sexual relationships with over 17 different women. Still in no position to judge, because that is his own personal life and non of our business. WAIT. It is our business. Because of Tigers position, its quite our business indeed. If I know that Woods has won 14 professional major gold champions, and is the second highest of any male player. I am constantly notified that Tiger is the youngest player to achieve the career Grand Slam, and the youngest and fastest to win 50 tournaments on tour. If I can know all of that and praise him for it, I have the right to know the negativity as well. Fame is powerful, but can hurt you. Fame for athletes is like a double edge sword, one side is fame and glory and the other side is a ticket for the press to leak all the gossip. Tiger Woods and most top athletes are put on a pedestal, and fame does not make them indestructible. It’s quite the opposite actually: their job puts them in the public eye for everyone to enjoy, and that is just something they have to deal with. Fame with athletes is difficult. It seems as though athletes ignorantly seem to think that fame means that you can get away with anything and everything. They seem to think they are on top of the world and are simply indestructible. (Show Poster Of Famous Athlete Mug Shots) It doesn’t seem like any of these famous athletes are indestructible. I’ll leave it up to you for the judging because these pictures are just flooding around everywhere because these athletes are constantly in the public viewing of everyone. But if you look at this top picture here, of OJ Simpson a former football player who murdered his ex-wife and her best friend, you forget that he was the first NFL player to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season. Or Kobe Bryant a former basketball player who sexually assaulted a 19 year old, you forget that he was the same person that scored the second highest number of points in a single game in NBA history. The only thing I think about is how stupid these people are for ruining their future, but thats just my opinion. Many opinions are flooded around about these people because they are constantly in the pubic eye. I came across a word that describes this situation with the utmost accuracy. Schadenfreude. Schadenfreude by definition means satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone else's misfortune. And isn’t that what happens. How many people here laugh iif their friends when they fall? Now, how many hate drama yet love spreading gossip? We’re only human. Now, imagine a famous person, lets say Michael Phelps for example, an Olympic winning swimmer, falls, or perhaps smokes weed and gossip spreads. We can’t help ourselves but run to the excitement and listen to what’s going on. Athletes have to watch themselves. It is unethical for athletes to behave in certain ways because their job puts them in the public eye. Since they are constantly in public view it is a necessity to be ethical and smart in the choices they make. In Conclusion a top athlete has a lot for a person to admire, strength, ambition and talent. They get idolized, and put on a pedestal as someone special because of their skills. But because of this, they have to be safe in their actions since they are viewed as such superior people. THANKS! ANY TIPS AND ADVICE ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED=) moreResolved Question: Black History Month: Black Acheiver of the Day?

I am a Junior attending a fairly high ranking university and am considering switching majors/schools within the University. My first two years of college were spent at an awful school that i only remained at due to family insistence. this year i took control of my life and said, to hell with you, I am going to the school I want. It cost about half of my first school and I am happy with it, without a doubt. The problem breaks down to I began as a political science major due to a lack of programs at my first school and the ridiculously low standards of all of the other programs the school offered. Low standards are not good , as they reap no long term benefits. I am technically a 5th semester Student, and am presently 3 semesters away from finishing my program in political science, however, I hate the POLS department with a passion, and want nothing more to do with it. I have no respect for the department as none of my professors, as of yet, have been even remotely qualified to teach and the work ethic of the majority of the class is almost non existent. In truth, it is depressing to sit through. I attend class to humor the professors ego, not to learn anything, as she is not capable of teaching me anything II do not already know or have not gotten from the prior nights reading. She runs the class as a book club, and appears to have littler confidence in the capability of the class. I do not have time for such nonsense and want to be done with it. I have enough credits to take POLS as a minor or to get my Associates and move onto the business school for my BA. Any advice on how I should go about doing this as I have no background in the area and know very little about what I am getting myself into. I want to be in a program where i can learn something you can only get from experience or an experienced instructor, My hope is the business school can provide this. I am taking AP Government this year (10th), next year I am taking AP Literature and AP U.S. History with the hopes of taking the SAT 2's for both, and my senior I plan on taking AP Language, AP European History,AP Phsycology,or AP Economics, AP Statistics, and maybe an AP Science im not sure yet. (I am also going to try to take another SAT 2 to fulfill the requirement) I have called the admissions officers to get an idea as to what my path should be for a sucessful high school career that can lead me to becoming a sucessful lawyer in the future so that is why I am questioning taking an AP Science. moreVoting Question: CHANCES AT A "TOP" BUSINESS SCHooL?
Academic Stats: 3.53 GPA class rank: 24/271 Clubs: Film Team, Debate Club (president), Amnesty Int'l (treasurer) Heres my story. Freshmen year I killed it. I took all honors courses and my average grade was a 93.5. Sophomore year my GPA went down a little bit as well as my rank. I took 2 AP's that year and the rest were Honors and I ended up getting a 76 in Honors Algebra yuck. My average grade that year was in the 82-84 range I can't quite remeber what the exact average was. This year my junior year I'm doing better but the math is still killing me. My mid year average was a 72. The rest of my courses are B's and I have 3 A's.Considering I do well on my SAT's can I get into a top undergrad business school such as NYU (my #1 choice), UNC, Univeristy of Penn., Univeristy of Virginia or even schools like Villanova, Ohio State, BU, or UCLA?...I'm a minority (latino) if that helps me at all lol. moreResolved Question: how can you start a career in?
The Department of Water and Power? What is the average starting pay and what are the job duties? Electrician? What schooling will I need and the average pay for an electrician? Perhaps start my own business eventually? I need ideas so anyone know of any other careers that can be achieved through maybe a trade school classes and education maybe a bachelors degree or from starting low and eventually moving up in rank moreResolved Question: What is the best path to take regarding practicing criminal law?
I'm an aspiring criminal lawyer, hopefully a prosecuting lawyer in the future. I am in my first year of undergraduate work at the University of Florida and I am well acquainted with the process of becoming a lawyer and earning a JD. I understand it is important to keep a great GPA and do well on the LSAT to get into a good law school. However, my true question is whether there are any specific law schools that stand out as better schools in the specialty of criminal law. To clarify, there are many rankings of the law schools on the internet, usually with Harvard, Georgetown, Yale, etc towards the top. However, they are generally an overall ranking of the school which gives a broad education for all types of aspiring lawyers from those who want to get into family law, appeals courts, corporate business, etc. Are there any certain law schools that are known for pumping out some great criminal lawyers, or is there really no preference to the school apart from its overall prestige and education. Obviously going to Yale Law school will give me better career opportunities than earning an online law degree. However, I was wondering if among the top, or any general cluster of law schools, if there were any that stood out as extraordinary for criminal law in particular. This is just a general inquiry on the subject. I know I have a few years to go before I will be deciding which law schools to go to, and many more years before I'll be considering specialties and where I want to practice. But I was hoping to gain some input early so I can possibly set my goals high for some better law schools that fit my interests. moreResolved Question: What undergrad business school is better overall: UM-Twin Cities Carlson School of Management or UW-Madison?
I have been accepted to both, and I'm having a difficult time making a decision. Different sites rank them very similarly. My gf will be living in madision and i have more scholarships there, but is Carlson really that much better to justify going there instead? moreResolved Question: Becoming a Vet......?
I'm aware that it is extremely competitive. With only 27 vet schools, I'm sure it is. Its always been a dream of mine, And I already am planning on going to a university for some sort of degree in Business management. I would love to open my own vet business one day. My concern is I'm only average in math and science. I Get B's and C's. I work hard, but My question is, Would I have a better chance at a vet school thats ranked lower? So they have lower qualifications, and also anyone who's gone through vet school, Is math and science a huge huge part of the schooling? I would love to be able to, but I don't want to go through half, and have to drop it because my grades suffer. No negativity, Thank you! moreResolved Question: What do you think of college rankings and how are they determined?
I am really really troubled by these rankings. For instance, when I was looking into grad schools, I chose a school in Australia that was ranked as one of the top 100 schools in the world according US News and The Times ranking. But when I started there, I had no clue how that school could possibly have such a high ranking. The buildings were run down, the professors didn't seem qualified and 99% of their students were from Asia and didn't know any English, but paid 10 times the tuition. Yet they allowed them to study there. There were no admissions tests and no internal English tests that the school required. It works like this for most universities in Australia and is big business. Yet many of these schools are in the top 100. I only made this stupid decision to study there based on these stupid rankings I was looking at before and was misguided. So I have no clue how these rankings are determined and am wondering if it's more of a marketing scam to earn money. moreVoting Question: AM I HURTING MY CHANCES AT A GOOD UNiVERSITY?
I'm a Junior in high school. My freshmen year I had straght A's taking all honors courses. I think my lowest core grade was a 91 or 92. My sophomore year got tougher and I got mostly B's a 1 C in honors algebra II. I took all honors courses and (2) AP classes again but they were once again very tough. This year I have one or two A's like 3 or 4 mid B's and 1 ugly C. my gpa as of right now I believe is in the 3.3-3.5 range unweighted. I feel like If I didn't take as many honors/AP classes I would have a near 4.0 GPA but these honors courses are KILLING me to the point they've dropped my class rank from 6/271 to 27/271....even if I do well on the SAT"s and ACT's are Universities like UNC, NYU, Fordham, UCONN, BU, UCLA, UF, Ohio State, or Washington Univeristy out of reach?
