Open Question: Do I have to have a bachelor's degree?
hi pplz anyway, the only reason im in college is cuz my parents said mafeesh wa7da haterda beek w enta m3ak sanaweya bas (high school diploma, even though its from the US) I don't wanna go to college, it's a waste of money and time, I just wanna get like a certificate or a two year degree or something and then start doing business and making money and doing practical stuff. personally, I envision myself doing a two year degree (maybe even going back to the US) and coming back and starting a business (I have this part down, so don't worry about it) what do you think? if I am educated, high class, cultured, etc, does it matter that I don't have a four year degree? Do girls really care about this? If i get married/engaged she is she gonna 3ayerni/look down on me? and dont tell me it depend on teh girl, i mean the general consensus cuz i dont wanna go to college, but my parents are like no u have to go to collegethanks alottt moreResolved Question: I dont know what I want to be :(?
I want to work in the medical field as a Doctor, I want to conduct research and make medical breakthoughs but I also want to own my own businesses or run a large corporation I founded etc... I know these are big goals but I know for a fact that I want to achieve both in my life. I dont even know where to start... Well I know school comes first but once I get my degree in philosophy and get accepted into medical school(getting 100% of my tuition paid by the united states army's HPSP program) I dont even know what type of doctor I want to be. I know for a fact I want to get paid well even though its not about the money I want a comfortable lifestyle and I dont want to be on call 24/7 etc... I want to be able to work and own a business... Im so worried that time is slipping past me... moreOpen Question: For all you active or retired navy soldiers: is the navy right for me?
Okay, so Im interested in joining the US Navy and I was wondering if some of the answers to the questions I asked my recruiter were accurately rendered. So to all you people who are currently enlisted in the navy or have been I'd appreciate what your experience has shown you to be true concerning the matters I'm about to cover. Based on my personal characteristics and goals, do you believe joining the navy would be in my best interest? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. So to start, here is a little background on me. I am 23 years old trying to get my bachelors degree in business administration, more specifically a focus in entreprenuership or small business management. I have about 2.5 years left before I graduate and I wish to complete my bachelors degree debt free, taking 15 credit hours per semester untill I finish and then hopeful move on to an MBA program. Now, from what my recruiter tells me, the most amount of time I would expect to be out to sea is about 6 months - during my entire 4 year naval career - depending on what job I qualify for. What concerns me is whether or not I will have the time to complete a degree in the time I am with the navy. Since, from what I understand, when on shore I will be working 8 hour days, when off shore, fitting in school once traveling can be difficult to do. How accurate is my understanding of the dailey time committment? In otherwords will I be out to sea on only one rotation, or can the navy basically ship me out whenever they want and where ever they want, for how ever long they want without a moments notice? I personally dont want to take all of my classes online and wish to take my core classes at an accredited land based university that I would be required to physically attend... Plus I dont want to exit the navy after my four year term with no college degree because I was out to sea most of the time... My recruiter explained it to me as I would be be working mostly 9am-5pm, monday-friday leaving my evenings open for school and weekends... Also would I only be expected to actively serve 4 years, of an 8 year contract. How true is what he explained to me? As I mentioned earlier, finishing my degree is of most importance to me. I like the fact that I wouldn't have to worry about the financial aspects of school while in the navy, but I want to be sure I wont have a hard time of prioritizing my degree because of factors outside my own control, like being shipped off to bumb fucking egypt for 12 months, or having to work crazy hours and so forth. Keep in mind if I stayed in the civilian sector taking 15 credit hours per semester I could have a degree in 2.5 years, but most likely with debt :(. So what should I do? Join or not? Will I be able to complete a degree and be fully fuctional in my roll with the navy? Thanks! moreOpen Question: Are these sentences correct?

I approach my 25th birthday in two weeks and I cannot help but feel old. I am still in school, earning a Master's degree in Education. My Bachelor's is in Finance/Business. I will soon hold an MBA as well. I want to be a business teacher. But there are no jobs. The Director of my State's Department of Education said that my generation has only about a 10% chance of finding teaching work in our lifetimes - it is simply too competitive. So, I feel I will never accomplish anything. Please advise. moreOpen Question: Is grad school an option for me?
I have a 2.74 gpa from my undergrad. My degree is in Psychology. I made a 620 on the GMAT. 1250 on the GRE. Can I get into any business schools? If not what other graduate degrees are lucrative? I'm tired of being poor. Thank you. moreOpen Question: Was it a good or bad decision?
This is what happened to me after my high school.. I was in Dubai, UAE pursuing a degree in BSc Business from London School of Economics external system. I joined the college in September 2008 studied their till April 2009 and gave my final exams and passed them with very good grades that I could have easily gotten into some of the London based colleges. But people used to say that transferring to a college in London is very difficult. I always wanted to come to US. So as 2009 started I applied to a college in US thinking I won't be able to transfer to UK. Transferring to UK was always my first priority, but I didn't try it ever because of people influence! I am now here in US since August 2009. I left my college in Dubai. I changed my major here to Electrical Engineering. Fortunately I got some credits transferred but the 3 courses I did there for 1 year, I just got them transferred as 1 semester over here. I mean they just gave me a few credits for that. But the thing is that I wasn't happy studying in Dubai because of traffic problems and even some of the professors were not good. Here, I am in Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas which is basically a village, but I like the university. People say over here that why I left LSE and came to WSU?!! I mean LSE i like the 3rd college in UK. I miss it now. But I am happy over here as compared to when I was over there. The only thing that make me sad is that I wasted 6 months or 1 year of my life because I didn't get the proper transfer. So tell me was it a good or bad decision for me to move to US? moreOpen Question: Does the University of Phoenix in Atlanta accept the HOPE scholarship?
I have been looking into the University of Phoenix in Atlanta for a Business degree, and I would like to know if they accept the hope scholarship. Say you go to a four year state university and graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance ... and then go on to graduate school and graduate with a Master of Business Administration in finance. After wards you study and take the CFA exam and become CFA certified. What would your earning potential be? moreOpen Question: My father said he is disappointed in me?
Right now I am on a break from school I am going to be 19 this year and I don't know what I want to study in Higher Education. I wanted to do business because I thought that would be fine to study its a neutral subject. I think I just went with it because I have no clue what I want to do. My father keeps suggesting Law which I do not want to do. He is very adamant that law is the way to go. So because I am on this break and decided to get a job whilst I figure out what I want to do with my life he told me he is disappointed in me. It really hurts that he said that. I want to have a career that I am happy with. I was thinking about studying Film, Fashion or Music but I know he will look down on these since they don't have the "prestige" associated with Law or Medicine which he could brag to his friend that his daughter has a degree in. My mum just says its my life and she will support me anyway I go. The thing is I don't understand why he has to make a big deal out of it. My parents split up when I was young and he was a weekend dad who I don't have much contact with since I stopped staying there on the weekends. so thats my story and any advice would be nicehe also said that I have until next saturday to decide what I want to do and he wants to talk with me on Saturday. moreOpen Question: College advice please!?
I attended a state school in MA, majoring in Elementary Education and English. I am now a senior ready to obtain my masters degree. If I get my Master's degree in Education, will that result in me getting paid more as a teacher? Or if I were to get my masters in a completely different area such as business, what schools do you suggest that are affordable yet still have a good name. What do you think of Harvard Extension, or would I be better off going somewhere else? moreOpen Question: pursuing a degree in international business.......?
I have been thinking about going back to school a lot lately. I am very interested in world issues and traveling. Also, I can speak, English, Mandarin, and Spanish. So, I have thought about getting a degree in international business. Do you think this will open a lot of doors for me on the job market? How much money will I expect to make and also what careers can I be hired for? Also, is it practical to expect a job that requires a lot of traveling? Finally, does anyone know the best schools in Latin America to get a degree in this (preferably fairly inexpensive)? moreResolved Question: Community college transfer??? 10 points?
Hi im 19 and have my GED next year when im 20 i wanna attend HACC its in Pennsylvania its a community college. I did a little research and found a document that was made by PITT for HACC student transfers. I want to get my degree in business/finance. So it says a min GPA of 3.0 to get in. If i get a GPA of 3.5 in CC then i can transfer right? How competitive is PITT for transfers? Ive been around the campus there and its a sweet college which is why i wanna go there really bad. I come from Russia is this a plus in the admissions eyes? like to diversify just being Russian does this give me a better chance? Also i dropped out of high school to get my GED. If i get my 2 year degree from HACC this wont matter will it? How can i improve my chances of getting accepted? and it says standarized test scores are not needed? does this mean i dont have to take the SAT? moreOpen Question: University of Pittsburgh????? New England community colleges...?
I was just accepted to Vermont Technical College. I also applied to Southern Maine Community College and New Hampshire Technical Institute. I'm pretty darn sure I don't want to go to NHTI... which degree would look better (I don't really know what to major in; maybe business), one from VTC or SMCC? Which school is harder, because I need to make sure I'm not gonna waste my money just to fail out... are they party schools? Which is more fun? I want to play pickup sports, (basketball, tennis..etc.) can I play indoors year round? Any ifno I should know? Thank you. moreOpen Question: Why do I have this sudden urge to stay young?
After I graduated high school I was immediately employed by my father. I worked for him for about four years and made a substantial income. But for some reason I still felt empty and far from being satisfied with my life. I was working and living in the real world while all my friends were attending college enjoying their youth. After the recession hit my father's business, I made the choice to go back to school. It's been a rough adventure after losing more than half of my annual salary. But it's actually given me intrinsic warmth, a sense of freedom, and youthfulness. I'm doing quite well in school and I have about two more years left until I obtain my bachelor's degree in accounting. I do not want to go back to the "real world". I want to travel, party, see the world, and learn first hand about other cultures while I'm still young. Is this wrong? I'll be 26 by the time I graduate. I feel like I should settle down and start making a "real life" for myself. I just don't want to go back to that grim life so soon. I learned real quick about what it was like to be Americanized at a young age. Why do I have this urge to stay young and free? moreOpen Question: How do I start my at home business?

I am graduating High school this year and I don't know what to do. I'm thinking either business or dietitian. Business: I've looked at some required courses, they look pretty boring and like something I wouldn't want to "learn" for >4 years. (I.E. Fall asleep classes) But a business degree is pretty versatile, but then again apparently there are a lot of jobless people running around with business degrees. Dietitian: I've always loved health. But i think they average around $45k a year (and who knows how much for newbies) which isn't a ton. I'm mainly afraid that I'll get a degree in nutrition and end up not being able to find a job. I'm not afraid of anything else. I love math. I like science. I know i'd love going to school for this. Soooo I guess my question is: which degree is better? Would i be more successful with a business or a nutrition degree? Are Dietitian jobs hard to come by? Sooooo confused. P.S. Should I take the AP Stats test? I know I'd pass with >3 but I'm worried that if I have to take another Stats class in college that I will fail that class because I know I won't remember anything/much P.P.S. Does my minor have to relate to my major? Because I want to minor in Chinese..which is .. kind of random..I guess THANks! moreOpen Question: I am somewhat self conscious about my weight and the amount of money I make, should I be?
I am 6'3" I weight 202-204lbs. I work in the medical field and make, combined with investment and salary, $60,000. I am a single guy and one of my academic field of study was business economics, so I know how to spend money and I know about investment (I estimate that the value of what I spend my money on is double of what I spend, so I get about $120,000 worth of goods and services/year). I feel uneeducatedted, sort of, but I have 132 total credits, so I am educated average. My GPA was in the 3.50-4.00, closer to 4, but I feel dumb, too? IDK. I guess I feel dumb and poor. Again, I am single and make $60,000, where does that live me? I have 2 associated degrees: business, and medical office as well as a minor in economics. Part of me is debating about becoming an economist, but that's 2 more years of school. Another issue I have not become confindent on. But, I feel fine and probably will just stay as I am, a medical office assistant. It's been 4 weeks....haha. I think I like you're thinking. I got laid about 5 times from Jan 18-Feb 18, and then it just hasn't happened since.I don't defy economics. If I spend $5.00 on something that I value as $10.00, I double my income. It's a concept called consumer surplus. As far as my income, I make $35,000 from my job and $25,000 from investments. I won a law suite because of a mistake during my birth, I have CP. I have a very IQ though, so don't get the wrong idea. I have about $200,000 which I hope to get a 7% return avg in my lifetime over 40 years....that itself is 3.2 million, and I kind of count that as income. The money I make as a medical office assistant will be totaly expenditure, no saving at all. I will shop and find amazing deals. I do it all the time. I walk out the door with $5.00 go to sal val and get 3 shirts worth 18 dollars a piece...I make 54-5=49. And, that's just one day. I mastered micro economics. macro is a little more tricky. high IQ, did I say? moreOpen Question: How many people here didn't go to a 4 year college and still make decent money?
Do you feel okay in the decision you made? Do you think a 4 year degree is absolutely necessary to succeed in this world. Sometimes I wonder what my 4 year degree will amount to if it is not in the medical field? I have heard several people tell me that sometimes it is better to attend a trade school, community college or even just get an online degree simply because lots of people get 4 year degrees and do not even use them in the subject they got the degree in. Then, after they graduate, they find themselves in a wall of debt due to student loans. For example, I know people who have majored in Business, History or even Accounting and when they graduate, they do not even get into the profession in which they have a degree in. What's your opinion? moreOpen Question: Do you think it is worth it to finish school?
I am currently working towards my Bachelors in Business Accounting. I work at a credit union and I bring home about $35,000 per year. Sometimes I wonder if I should finish school? It only seems to be racking up more bills (student loans) and taking time away from my family. And for a 22 yr old, I must say that I am doing pretty well with what I make and I know that I can only go up from here. I do know that if I happen to get fired, finding a new job that pays about the same without a degree is going to be really hard. I just want some opinions on the whole thing. moreOpen Question: What kind of jobs could I get with an Associate of Applied Science in Business Administration degree?

I'm a 31 year old student that's been going to school on and off for the past 7 years. My major is currently business administration and I'm getting a bit discouraged because the classes are getting so difficult. What makes it a bit more challenging is that I'm a non traditional student and have to deal with things that everyday life presents. My question is should I change my major to Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations. I've actually always been in this field but I'm currently working in a field that I love.....the medical industry. I deal with the business office side of things and have been for the past 10+ years. The only thing that 's missing in my equation is the piece of paper and honestly I don't think it matters what my degree is in just that I have one. I just found out today that my boss who's CFO (chief financial officer) has a degree in criminal justice and she's doing something completely off base. What do you guys think? Please be honest! moreOpen Question: Thinking about downsizing...making a change...?
Hey Yahoo Answers people I need some advice. I've asked select members of my family, but I'd like some input from people who don't know me personally. I'm currently a single mom of a 7 year old and I rent a house and run a small home daycare business out of it. I am really feeling a bit burnt out on the whole thing, I've been doing this for about 5 years now. I'm fed up with not knowing what my income will be from week to week, parents coming and going as they please, bringing the children in sick, being late w/pick ups and payments...yada yada yada. I'd like to go back to school full time to pursue my degree. I'm thinking about moving into an apartment, picking up some cleaning jobs and going back to school. This is a HUGE decision for me because I'm a mom and I don't want to risk my income (as unreliable as it is) to make this step. So as you can probably tell I'm going back and forth with this right now and would like to hear some objective advise and perhaps hear from a few people who have made big changes like this and how it worked out. So far the pros of quitting this and moving into an apartment are, being able to spend more time with my daughter w/out other children underfoot, not being trapped in the house all day, not having to try and maintain a HUGE yard, having amenities like a pool and tennis courts, I'd save over 300/month onrent not to mention probably less than half the energy usage as well. Safer living situation for a single mom/child, the apt I'm looking at is also close to family. Cons of apt...I have two HUGE dogs (which they allow) but right now the ease of just opening the door and letting them do their "thing" is great...so walking them multiple times a day will kinda stink. (unless Ilook at the exercise aspect lol) people probably complaining about the noise we will be sure to make w/an active child and two huge dogs overhead, less privacy. Obviously the pros outweigh the cons, but I'm still skittish and unsure. I just want to get some feedback. So, what do you think? moreVoting Question: Business cards for university students -- tacky or professional?
Hello: So I am a undergraduate student completing my degree in Psychology. I intend to pursue graduate school after my I complete my degree. Anyways, I was thinking of getting some business cards printed up with my personal information such as my email, phone number, and personal website, as well as it saying "Undergraduate" where the occupation/position would be. I want to hand it out to potential thesis supervisors when we meet and others to begin networking a little more. So my question is does this come across as being tacky or trying to hard? Or does this seem professional and appropriate. I guess I am looking for some answers from some professors on how they would perceive this All other advice is also welcome :) moreVoting Question: Can I get into business school with a 2.5 gpa?
I have enough units for 2 major degrees and two minor degrees....how does this work? help>> moreVoting Question: So, I found out earlier that I'm not going to graduate this Spring, because...?
My adviser informed me that I've yet to meet the Global/International or Historical Awareness course required for my degree. Now before I enrolled for the Spring semester, I met with an adviser (different one) who explained to me what final credits I needed to complte to get my diploma. She did not mention anything about a Global/International or Historical Awareness course. So now, I feel lied to, along with the thought of me being RIPPED OFF for taking an unnessecary course, because at the end of this semester I would've earned, what I thought and was told, my 64 credits for my Associate of Business, but now I'm going to be earning 67 credits due to being mislead by an adviser. The fine print says I needed to take a Global/International or Historical Awareness course and I thought the college advisers were there to help me (like tell me about the fine print and what I needed to do to earn my degree/credits and what not), not mislead and rip me off. Because the way I'm seeing things is that the school I'm attending "hid" this info from me, so that I continue to "invest" money for education, as they know once I'm graduating the odds of me paying for anything towards the school is slim to none. My question is, what should I do about this? Should I bring this to the Dean's/President's attention? Because now I got another fork in the road. I now have to spend my summer taking a class that I thought wasn't needed. I obviously took and paid out of my own pocket for a course I didn't need to take. And I now get my diploma at the end of Summer, instead of at the end of Spring. I'm very upset at my school in general for telling me this now when I'm 7 weeks away from what I thought was going to be my graduation. *Sigh* Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. moreVoting Question: Any advice on entering the military as a career?
I am seeking the advice, both positive and negative, from anyone who has experience in the military on what their thoughts are for someone to join. My circumstances are that I will be graduating college in may with a double degree in business management and finance so I am very much qualified and have many options for the civilian world but the thought of going into the military, the army more specifically, and taking the route of infantry and possibly pursuing ranger school really appeals to me. I am actually a collegiate basketball player so I am very fit, I am use to taking orders and being yelled at, I know that it wont compare to what the military will do to me but I will have some advantage from that. So any insights or advice anyone would like to share with me I would be very appreciative. Im in school and have changed my major 3 times already..Im in limbo now thinking I may want to change again...I have a 4 year old and want to be done with school ....if I were to graduate with an Associate of Applied Science in Business and Technology (accounting) would I be in a good field and what kind of jobs are available??? any Advice or information would be great THANKS moreResolved Question: How can I maintain motivation to draw now that I'm out of school?
I just graduated college with a degree in Communication Arts: Illustration and I HAD to take any job I could get which landed me a position as Inventory Controller for the uni. and basically a right hand for the university's accountants. Problem is, I lost a heck of a lot of motivation to draw after my final finals! I get home and want to relax and not do anything! I had decided to take off from drawing until February and to start back up once Hourly Comic Day came (which I participated in) but I never could get myself to follow my own deadlines. It's a month later and I still haven't created anything, I can't even muster the motivation to even CORRECT my student work to make it better, which I think would be an easy thing to do. Any suggestions? Am I doomed? How do I essentially "suck it up" and get down to business? I don't want to be in accounting for the rest of my days! (Cross-posted to the Illustration section.) moreResolved Question: Do you think College is a scam considering that more than 90% of all graduates never find jobs in their field?
I mean if your extremely rich and want to go for fun, that's fine, but I see so many people get masters degrees in Art History and Accounting and never find jobs in their field. There are a couple of people who work next to where I work, and they have masters degrees and doctorate degrees in accounting, business, education and all many other fields who work Home Depot for a living! I realize the economy is getting really bad, and I have a friend who graduated from a university with honors with her bachelors in elementary teaching. She can only find receptionist work right now! ...and a lot of teachers are not getting renewals for their employment contracts either in many elementary schools. So do you think most majors are scams or to put it more lightly - a trap you can't get out of? Why or why not?To F-4 Commandos right wing Cuban: I can see where you are coming from. My husband lives in the United States and in Mexico sometimes and he has a great trade where he does not even have a US high school diploma. His highschool diploma from Mexico is all he has with a certificate to show he went through 2 years of training. He is a mason and thinks its rediculous that all the mason companies are now starting to require a 2 year degree in masonry with a bunch of certification cards that Americans now require. I just think americans complicate things and are now starting to require a degree in order to work almost anywhere. In my other country of Mexico, you only need a 2 year degree for teaching and to be a mason - you only need some training - not all of these stupid education requirements and license / certification requirements. Its absolutely ridiculous! Thanks for your answer though. moreResolved Question: can i persue two different degrees from two different universities both being corresspondance?

To gain full understanding of business law, operation, management, strategy, record keeping and so forth, what degree do I need to earn? I have invested greatly so that soon I might be able to purchase my own companies. I have been in school a fair amount but have not earned a degree, I now shift my focus to what I will be doing the rest of my life; owning companies. Its like I wanna do so much but I cant do anything. I wanna learn how to dance every dance in the world! I wanna animate cartoons but then I want to be a movies director (real life). I also like to be a comedian and become friends with Seth Rogen and Adam Sandler! I also wanna learn to play an instrument any instrument as long as I can make music...or at least learn notes and write music.I wanna be a veternarian but then I wanna run a business and then I also wanna be one of the few lawyers that actually bring justice to the world. Make me laugh dammit! shit. moreOpen Question: Help from career experts..Would a career change to programming or supply chain management a good move now?
I'm 32 have a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering which was a nightmare for me. I do take pride having an Engineering degree and I did benefit from studying engineering in many aspects, but civil was/is the last thing I ever wanted to do.it's a long story why did I take (forced into) that stream and why didn't I change earlier... we're today now.I 've a degree that I know for sure I cannot make use of it. in one semester i had an introductory course in programming (C++) and found myself very interested. also after graduation I took an introductory course in Visual Basic and again found myself very interested. I know they were only an introduction but I enjoyed solving assignments and how I'd try to write the code using the knowledge that I learned and try to reach a solution to the problem given the limited features I learned about the language. Perhaps because of my eternal love to mathematics, in a way, I felt programming is very related to mathematics. trying to think logically but at the same time creatively. Now looking at the economy and having many computer science graduates not finding jobs or being laid off, will I be competent enough with only a college diploma as I can't afford right now to pursue a 4 yr bachelor degree. (money, age , family).. Another thing I was thinking of is going into business maybe it has more career opportunities. but having an engineering background, I may not have what it takes to get into business studies as, from my point of view, it needs a different personality someone talkative, good in arguments, has good writing and memorizing capabilities while I can only think numbers or in a mathematical logic. I know accounting does have numbers. but I was thinking of merging business and programming when I was first introduced to ERP and supply chain management in a lecture I attended long time ago that was held by an Oracle professional (forgot to mention I took oracle developer course too) . he claimed that this path is promising now more than programming ( even more than the oracle developer path he was teaching us!!) I'm really confused...don't know what to do or what to choose. Forget about my Eng. degree. I'm not going down that path. I ended up accepting a call centre job where they only need someone with high school qualifications!!! Any experienced help and advice will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read my long question and for any sincere advice. moreVoting Question: Was Manny Villar ever really poor?
Was Manny Villar really ever poor? AS I WRECK THIS CHAIR By William M. Esposo (The Philippine Star) Updated February 07, 2010 12:00 AM “Nakaligo ka na ba sa dagat ng basura? (Have you bathed in a sea of garbage?)” is the opening line of the jingle of Nacionalista Party presidential candidate Manny Villar which is featured in a television commercial that attempts to project him as having been one of the poorest of the poor. But was Manny Villar really one of the poorest of the poor as what his advertising has been projecting? A Chair Wrecker reader from Tondo who claimed to know the Villar family when they still resided there debunked that notion of Villar ever having been poor. This information was relayed to yours truly via our response email address. The former Villar family Tondo neighbor cited reference points to support his assertion that Manny Villar was never really poor — including the claim that Villar’s father used to have a “nikaladong (stainless steel clad)” private Jeep. During the 1950s, a nikaladong private Jeep is a status symbol in Tondo, definitely not the hallmark of a poor household. Considering how Manny Villar has been dodging the serious issues pertaining to his use of public office in order to add immense benefits and profits to his businesses, your Chair Wrecker decided to do some investigating. Guess what Manny Villar’s online bio revealed: “Manuel Villar Jr. was born on December 13, 1949 in Tondo, a densely populated district of Manila. He was the second of nine children of Manuel Villar Sr., a government employee, and Curita Bamba, a seafood dealer. As a young boy, he helped his mother sell fish, crabs, and shrimp in Divisoria to help earn money to pay for his education. Villar finished his education at Holy Child Catholic School in 1962, and finished his high school education at Mapua Institute of Technology in 1966. He attended the University of the Philippines-Diliman and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1970. He returned to the same school to earn his master’s degree in business administration in 1973.” In the early 1950s, the rich lived in the big compounds in Ermita and Pasay and what was called New Manila in Quezon City. In Tondo, you found the middle class and the poor as well. Former president Joseph Estrada also claims roots in Tondo but his family was never poor. Based on his online bio, Villar cannot really justify calling himself poor. The Villar Tondo home, as shown on his 2009 TV commercials, was made of sturdy materials. It has lasted to this day. His father was employed while his mother operated a fish, crab and shrimp dealership in lucrative Divisoria Market. It may not be Class AB household income but it is definitely not Class E. Proof that the Villar children were never really wanting is the fact that Manny Villar studied in private schools. The indigent kids went to public school. Enrolling one’s child in a private school is a middle class value and option. The indigent kids who do manage to finish high school would tend to immediately learn a craft in order to be able to earn money right away. Aspiring for a business administration master’s degree is not the usual post high school move of indigent kids. Villar narrated on his 2009 TV commercial, with Boy Abunda interviewing him, that as a young kid he thought that corned beef was soupy because that was how they used to prepare it at home. This, he claimed, was their way to ensure that everybody had a share. But the fact is that there are really two ways to cook canned corned beef. One is the dry sautéed type while the other is the soupy type where you can add potatoes and cabbage. Both the rich and the middle class enjoy corned beef both ways. Also, poor folks, especially a family of eleven, CANNOT AFFORD to eat canned corned beef. For a family of 11 to be eating corned beef confirms that the Villar family is anything but poor. That was the case then and more so now when the poor go hungry or manage to eat only one meal a day. Up to the 1980s, people from the provinces consider it a status symbol to be eating corned beef. That is why canned foodstuffs, especially corned beef, are being displayed in the sala by many households in the provinces for these to be seen by visitors. For Manny Villar to don this facade of being “poor” once upon a time just to gain political advantage should make every Filipino voter ponder as to what else he would be willing to do just to attain his objective. Wisdom from a cherished honest man Tomorrow, our family will mark the death anniversaries of our Dad and Mom who both died on the same date, four years apart. Mom passed away on February 8, 1966 while Dad passed away on February 8, 1970. Our Dad was the most honest person we knew. During the era of President Elpidio Quirino, a close friend and former classmate of Dad, an opportunity was given to Dad to make a cool P200,000 — a fortune th moreVoting Question: An interesting piece i wrote about how hip hop is affecting the world. is it good? (easy read)?
I wrote this in 2007.....i copied it from my book. Wars and violence were around before rap.... but Some people believe that rap music is one of the main reasons why young black men are going around shooting each other. They feel that rap music is the prime motivation of these youngsters trying to "keep it real". They go around getting tattoos, have their hat tilted to the side, pants hanging low, flashing gang signs, trying to "keep it gangster". There's a lot of youngsters who are sleeping in their grave right now for trying to be something that they wasn't. But I don't think these youngsters seem to understand that these hip hop artists that they see on TV and magazines are just rappers & actors. They're entertainers. It's all images and acting, what sells. None of it is real. It's just entertainment. It's just a style It's all a fantasy. Real gangsters don't talk about what they did Remember back in the 40s and 50s Frank white Suits and ties Untouchables Those were real gangstas When they shot someone, they didnt run. they walked away. Some rappers really did live this life, but they don't no more. Some grew up in a home without a daddy, slang coke, did time in jail. They needed an outlet and music was their escape from that mess. 50 cent lives in Farmington, Connectit he owns a beautiful mansion Rappers own their own business CEOs Rappers don't live that life no more Why be feeling positive about the negative and being negative about the positive like if a friend decides to go to school and pick up a trade, change his life by leaving the hood and move into the suburbs, he's a sell out I knew some guys who came from one of the worst neighborhoods in the city going out boasting and bragging like they proud of it Nobody wants to live in the projects. not even 50 cent or jay-z. That's why they became rappers, to get out of that life People talk about degrading women but it dont seem like it's bothering them any you see them in the videos and what about the rap concerts guys smacking a girl's ass some may scream and laugh it off but there are some girls who dont play that at all some will just snap and beat the living hell out of you women often complain how men treat them if you walking around with shorts all the way up to your genitals, what do u expect? the way they carry yourself, then that's how you're gonna be percieved. Ice Cube has a master's degree. he's in kiddie movies now. is he a sell out? Even Dr.Dre mentioned in his 2001 album that he aint about that gangsta mess no more. The murder stories we hear from rappers aren't true Who would be dumb enough to go kill someone, go inside a recording studio, talk about what they did and release it to the world? they're just ACTING The reason y rap talk about bitches, hoes, cars, money, drugs and sex because that's what seems to be in nowadays Thats all they talk about..thats what they tell our youngsters because these rappers know that's what they like They would wanna put out a record that's going to appeal to these youngsters so they can make money. Old school rap dont appeal to youngsters Remember Doug E.Fresh's "Self Destruction" In the song, they talk about peace increase peace, stop the violence but none of these youngsters want to hear that They want to hear about the negative booty shaking, rims, dollar bills because it's entertainment all about the beats and the catchy chorus You dont see guys dancing with each other no more what happened to that? But rappers, they take it too far They wanna test another man's manhood to where rap has turned into a bloody war You got rappers going at it, against each other we lost big & tupac over that Whenever i listen to a rap diss one thing i always hear a rapper call another rapper he's dissing a "bitch" "bitch ass nigga" but what does that mean? how can a man be a "bitch" when they dont know they're revealing feminine traits themselves. You look at magazines rappers with their shirts off ll cool j lickin his lips women are not the only ones whose looking at that moreVoting Question: what do you major in if you are planning on going to business school or law school after you bachelors degree?

I graduated from a good college with a highly accredited business school in December 2009 with a degree in marketing. I had a very high GPA of 3.8 plus a six month internship in marketing/pr. I thought it wouldn't be too hard to find an entry level marketing/pr job since I live in commuting distant to NYC, but I was wrong! I'm not really having the same issues as other college grads who aren't hearing back from employers at all, during the months of Jan and Feb I interviewed with 8 different companies, but no decent job offers (I did turn down one offer at an accounting firm that only paid $15/hour and wasn't related to what I want to do at all). I keep hearing back that "although you were a strong candidate, we found someone else with more experience." I've come to realize that ppl that are laid off with years of experience are taking the entry level jobs from recent grads so I am not sure what else I can do. Any suggestions? moreVoting Question: Should I get a second Bachelor's or a Master's?
I have a Bachelor's in Business from 1998. I went back to school and got an Associates in Computer Information Systems in 2009. Upon graduation I got hired in the software department as an Engineer for a government contractor. Great job and benefits. However to move up the ladder and apply for promotions I have to have an Engineering or Comp Science 4 year degree. I found a Master's degree in Computer Science but am worried I will be in over my head. I also found a program in Information Technology that will take my undergrad credits and allow me to get another Bachelor's degree in 10 classes. Money is not the issue as I have tuition reimbursement...however, it would be an issue if in my Master's I do struggle and don't get at least a B. Any help would greatly be appreciated. moreResolved Question: Should I go to university?
I'm in a tough situation at the moment. I'm currently a 17 yr old Year 12 student in Australia. I have the option of going to university to further my study, but I cannot decide if its worth the effort. I don't really like school, I am very interested in learning, gaining knowledge & experiencing new things but I generally do not like the school environment & I am unsure on whether uni will be the same or different (possible worse). I'm interested in writing, business, health, art as well as other things but don't exactly know what career path I want to follow in the future. I'm certainly capable of going to university, but I don't know if I will just be wasting my time where I could have spent 4 years of my life gaining experience in other areas rather than getting a degree I may or may not use (I'm aware other things happen while at uni but this is the main reason people go there right?) So I don't know if I should do my TEE exams & go to uni or not do them & apply my time to something I may enjoy more, I've heard most uni's have mature aged entry so maybe I'll look into that later on. I would just like some feedback from someone who may know more about this than me. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Psychologist, LCSW or LMHC?
