MOUNT LAUREL Global positioning systems, a music player and several checks were stolen during separate vehicle burglaries in the township, police said.

The burglaries occurred outside businesses on Eastgate Drive and Roland Avenue and at the Wahoo's Swim Club on Church Road.

Police said GPS systems and an iPod were stolen from the vehicles at the businesses. Twelve checks were stolen from the vehicle at the swim club.

All three burglaries occurred Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Two of the vehicles were locked and had windows smashed.

The third was unlocked, police said.

Business confidence in Singapore dives

Singapore - Business confidence in Singapore has slumped to its lowest level since the end of 2004, according to a survey Monday. While sales and profit figures were largely unchanged in the last three months of 2007, prospects have fallen sharply for the next six months, The Business Times and SIM University poll revealed.

The survey showed that the business prospects net balance - or difference between the percentage of optimistic and pessimistic companies - fell to 20 per cent from 39 per cent.

"The firms may be overly pessimistic because of the grim prospects in the US economy, accompanying volatile and weak stock markets and rising oil prices," said Chow Kit Boey, director of the quarterly survey of 128 companies.

Some 71 per cent of the firms have overseas business. more

Andover business owners have their say over parking fee increase

ANDOVER — Downtown business owners came out in force last night to oppose the 50-cent parking meter rates set to go into effect in June.

In response, the selectmen decided to form a task force to study the business district parking problem.

The board could decide to keep the rates at the current 25 cents, add more free short-term parking in the town's center, create parking permits or continue with its plan to double the rates.

"We want to create a plan so when we do implement fee changes, there's agreement to what it looks like," selectmen Chairman Brian Major said.

The 20 shop owners that attended the meeting said an increase to 50 cents would deal a whopping blow to businesses that will be struggling this spring when the Main Street construction project begins causing large-scale disruptions around their businesses. more

Open Question: Was Manny Villar ever really poor?

Was Manny Villar really ever poor? AS I WRECK THIS CHAIR By William M. Esposo (The Philippine Star) Updated February 07, 2010 12:00 AM “Nakaligo ka na ba sa dagat ng basura? (Have you bathed in a sea of garbage?)” is the opening line of the jingle of Nacionalista Party presidential candidate Manny Villar which is featured in a television commercial that attempts to project him as having been one of the poorest of the poor. But was Manny Villar really one of the poorest of the poor as what his advertising has been projecting? A Chair Wrecker reader from Tondo who claimed to know the Villar family when they still resided there debunked that notion of Villar ever having been poor. This information was relayed to yours truly via our response email address. The former Villar family Tondo neighbor cited reference points to support his assertion that Manny Villar was never really poor — including the claim that Villar’s father used to have a “nikaladong (stainless steel clad)” private Jeep. During the 1950s, a nikaladong private Jeep is a status symbol in Tondo, definitely not the hallmark of a poor household. Considering how Manny Villar has been dodging the serious issues pertaining to his use of public office in order to add immense benefits and profits to his businesses, your Chair Wrecker decided to do some investigating. Guess what Manny Villar’s online bio revealed: “Manuel Villar Jr. was born on December 13, 1949 in Tondo, a densely populated district of Manila. He was the second of nine children of Manuel Villar Sr., a government employee, and Curita Bamba, a seafood dealer. As a young boy, he helped his mother sell fish, crabs, and shrimp in Divisoria to help earn money to pay for his education. Villar finished his education at Holy Child Catholic School in 1962, and finished his high school education at Mapua Institute of Technology in 1966. He attended the University of the Philippines-Diliman and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1970. He returned to the same school to earn his master’s degree in business administration in 1973.” In the early 1950s, the rich lived in the big compounds in Ermita and Pasay and what was called New Manila in Quezon City. In Tondo, you found the middle class and the poor as well. Former president Joseph Estrada also claims roots in Tondo but his family was never poor. Based on his online bio, Villar cannot really justify calling himself poor. The Villar Tondo home, as shown on his 2009 TV commercials, was made of sturdy materials. It has lasted to this day. His father was employed while his mother operated a fish, crab and shrimp dealership in lucrative Divisoria Market. It may not be Class AB household income but it is definitely not Class E. Proof that the Villar children were never really wanting is the fact that Manny Villar studied in private schools. The indigent kids went to public school. Enrolling one’s child in a private school is a middle class value and option. The indigent kids who do manage to finish high school would tend to immediately learn a craft in order to be able to earn money right away. Aspiring for a business administration master’s degree is not the usual post high school move of indigent kids. Villar narrated on his 2009 TV commercial, with Boy Abunda interviewing him, that as a young kid he thought that corned beef was soupy because that was how they used to prepare it at home. This, he claimed, was their way to ensure that everybody had a share. But the fact is that there are really two ways to cook canned corned beef. One is the dry sautéed type while the other is the soupy type where you can add potatoes and cabbage. Both the rich and the middle class enjoy corned beef both ways. Also, poor folks, especially a family of eleven, CANNOT AFFORD to eat canned corned beef. For a family of 11 to be eating corned beef confirms that the Villar family is anything but poor. That was the case then and more so now when the poor go hungry or manage to eat only one meal a day. Up to the 1980s, people from the provinces consider it a status symbol to be eating corned beef. That is why canned foodstuffs, especially corned beef, are being displayed in the sala by many households in the provinces for these to be seen by visitors. For Manny Villar to don this facade of being “poor” once upon a time just to gain political advantage should make every Filipino voter ponder as to what else he would be willing to do just to attain his objective. Wisdom from a cherished honest man Tomorrow, our family will mark the death anniversaries of our Dad and Mom who both died on the same date, four years apart. Mom passed away on February 8, 1966 while Dad passed away on February 8, 1970. Our Dad was the most honest person we knew. Open Question: Have I ruined chances for a good law school?

Hi, I was always a good student and school and so got into a top 10 undergraduate business school majoring in Business Law, Management, Marketing and minoring in French. I plan on going to law school after this (my dream schools would be Michigan, Cornell, Georgetown, Emory or Notre Dame). Once I got into college, I lost focus for a while in my second semester of freshman year, and so I have a massive drop in my GPA (from 3.7 to 3.2, giving me a cumulate of about 3.45). After I realized my mistake, it realized it was much tougher to get my grades up than I thought it would be. This school is very accounting, finance and stats oriented and so we have to take many, many quantitative sort of courses which are mandatory (and I find these very difficult). I find my business law class very easy and fun (I'm just better oriented for things like that). So now I'm in my second semester of sophomore year and almost done with all non-major mandatory classes (accounting, finance, stats) but I realize it is nearly impossible for me to raise my GPA above a 3.4 until I get these classes out of the way and can take all business law courses. So the question is- if I graduate with a 3.6 GPA, two good, strong internships, and A LOT of extracurricular work (a paid teaching assistant position to a business law professor, founded a management workshop, founded a legal case analysis workshop (president of both workshops) helped new businesses in this college town with establishing themselves (still getting this club underway), paid research work in entrepreneurial trends amongst minorities, and do more and more work with the business law department) and get a solid LSAT score, above a 170, and a strong GPA in my major (not so much in my mandatory classes during freshman and sophomore years) and a semester study abroad, and some work (1-2 yrs) experience in corporate law after undergraduate- do you think I have a chance of getting into any of these law schools? more

Open Question: How good are my chances or being accepted into MIT?

I go to a college preparatory school, and I want to go to MIT for undergraduate college. I had a 3.3 GPA in my freshman year, and was in Algebra I reg, Geography reg, English reg, biology reg, Spanish 1 reg, and physical education. Over the summer I did volunteer work at a camp for mentally handicapped children in South Florida. In my sophomore year I took Latin I H, Acting I H, English 10 reg., Chemistry H, Algebra II H, and World History H. and got a weighted 4.1 (unweighted 3.7). Over the summer and during the year I worked with a mentor on a research project (he is MIT alumni and will right my letter of recommendation), I took a summer pre-calc, geometry, and online health class, and worked at the camp again. My sophomore year, I scored a 34 on the ACT and 2250 on the SATs, i got National Merit Scholarship with my PSAT scores, I took two SAT subject tests (math and science) and aced both. I worked with my mentor again and was a semifinalist in a local science fair. I helped establish a robotics club at my school, and was a part of Future Business Leaders of America club. In eleventh grade i took an independent case study program as an elective, Latin on FLV (an online class), Spanish II H, English 11 H, Chemistry AP, Physics B AP, Calculus AB, US History AP. I got a weighted GPA of 4.8, Unweighted 4.0. Over the summer i took multiple college classes in science and robotics, continued my volunteer job, and went to the MIT RSI summer program for six weeks. In 12th grade I am taking the Independent case study elective, Latin III of FLV, Spanish III H, AP English Literature, Physics C, Calculus BC, Statistics, gov/eco AP. and have a 4.9 weighted or 4.0 unweighted. more

Open Question: What to include in resume?

I'm a second semester junior in college right now, majoring in accounting, and I am currently thinking about writing my resume for employment after school. I don't have many things to list other than a high GPA, but here's what I have: High school - Three full years of being in a college concert band on trumpet, plus private trumpet lessons throughout this time. Graduated in top 5th of my class. Community college - member of the New Jersey Stars scholarship program and Phi Theta Kappa. Earned Associate's degree in Business with 3.79 GPA (out of 4.0). Current 4 year college - Member of the NJ Stars II scholarship program, high GPA so far. Only been here for a semester and a half, but plan on joining the fishing club for a semester (the college counts it as a sport) and hopefully get an internship for a semester/summer. My personal strengths - punctual, opposite of a procrastinator, hard worker, good attention to detail, etc. Now, I was wondering how far back in my past I should go when deciding what to put on my resume. I have heard that putting high school activities/achievements is considered bad form, but since I graduated from a community college before attending a university, is it also bad form to include anything before my time at my current 4 year college? Obviously, I won't have to cut out too many things because I don't have much listed. Also, is it useful at all to include unrelated sports (fishing club) on a resume? If I'm supposed to cut out high school (pretty sure) and community college (not as sure) all I would be left with is my soon-to-be Bachelor's degree with, hopefully, a high GPA, my good work and study habits, an unrelated sport, and a small chance of landing an internship. I have no work or volunteer experience to speak of, which is bad I know. To make a long story short: in my case, how far back should I go when preparing my resume? Thanks a lot more

Voting Question: Will I be able to get into a good college? Or medical school?

You guys probably get a ton of questions like this here. My apologies if I've just added to the great cycle of worried high school kids asking questions. Anyway, I'm sixteen years old, a junior in high school, with the end of the school year rapidly approaching. I haven't always made the best choices in my life, and unfortunately, school is contained in the category of "life". My grades freshmen year were average at best, my math scores probably a bit low. Things slipped majorly the first trimester of my sophomore year, as I go either a failing grade or a D- in my Business Management class. This was primarily my fault, as I'd missed the two weeks of school immediately following the first (I'll get to that in a bit). My performance improved dramatically the second trimester, and I finished the year with almost all As, and a B+ in my Geometry course. The first trimester of this year, I got all As and Bs. This current term is almost over, and the case will most likely be the same. And honestly, that's not very good for me. I am, by no means, a stupid person (nor am I an overtly arrogant one), and I could probably get all As if I bothered to actually do my homework, rather than rely on test and quiz grades to get me through. I know that colleges don't look solely at grades when considering applicants. The thing that I didn't quite mention is that I have a juvenile record, comprised of two counts of second degree home invasion, which I acquired my sophomore year. Will having this blemish on my history disqualify me from receiving student loans? Would a fairly prestigious school still consider me, in light of my past actions? Overall, is it still possible for me to get into a great school if I get above-average scores on my ACT exam next week, and continue to get decent grades? It sucks that I even have to ask this question. Sadly, the governor of my state, Michigan, eliminated the "Promise Scholarship", that guaranteed money to kids who did well on their MEAP tests. And my social studies scores were literally better than over 99% of other students in the state. I heard something or another about how I was within the top 700 in the nation, in regards to the aforementioned category. I'm not bragging there. I'm venting. Ruddy economy. No offense Tim, but you obviously don't know anything about the legal system... more

Resolved Question: Is this guy crazy: Wisconsin dad drives all the way to Kansas each week to hang on to a job in tough times?

JANESVILLE, Wis. – In the early dawn, after another week building cars, Michael Hanley leaves his job in Kansas. He quickly zips into Missouri, then heads up a ribbon of highway past grain silos and grazing deer, across the frozen fields of Iowa, over the Mississippi River and into the rolling hills of Wisconsin. Finally, he pulls into his driveway — 530 miles later. It's one heck of a haul: more than 1,000 miles roundtrip, 16-plus hours of driving, every week. "I like to say I gave up an eight-minute commute for an eight-hour commute," he says wearily, running a hand though salt-and-pepper hair as he watches his two sons play basketball for the first time this season. After the aging General Motors plant where he worked for 23 years was idled about a year ago, Hanley faced a Hobson's choice: Stay with his family and search for an autoworker's salary ($28 an hour) in a county where more than 40 percent of its manufacturing jobs disappeared from 2006 to 2009. Or hang on to his GM paycheck and health insurance and follow the job, no matter where it leads. In his case, it led to Fairfax, Kan., the same place his brother and two brothers-in-law — also GM workers, and now his roommates — landed. For others, it has been Indiana or Texas. The long commute is not just a story of hard times, tough choices and a shrinking American auto industry. It's also a case study of what happens when an aging industrial town loses an anchor, when workers too old to start over and too young to retire are caught in a squeeze and when economic survival means one family, but two far-flung ZIP codes. ___ Hanley is not one to complain. "GM has been good for us," he says. "This whole town knows that." For 90 years, the sprawling plant — it started out building tractors — became a different kind of family business. Through the decades, sons followed fathers onto the line, sometimes rubbing shoulders as they built Chevy Cavaliers, Caprices, Tahoes, Suburbans and more. Hanley's father and brother worked there. So did his father-in-law, two brothers-in-law and an assortment of uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. But as GM's financial troubles mounted, car and SUV sales fell and gas prices climbed, the automaker closed several plants, eliminating thousands of jobs. Janesville — then the oldest of GM assembly plants — ended production of SUVs in December 2008, months before the automaker received billions of dollars in government loans and filed for bankruptcy. (The factory is on standby status; some hold out hope it will reopen one day.) Some of about 1,200 remaining workers took buyouts or retired; some began new careers. Hundreds more stayed with GM, relocating, commuting or just waiting for an opening. The automaker has about 6,500 laid-off workers nationwide. Even before the doors closed, Hanley began preparing for life after GM. He returned to college to complete two credits he needed for an accounting degree, but an offer in Kansas came first. He didn't hesitate. Auto work these days is like playing musical chairs. You grab an opening where you can. Hanley didn't want to lose his health insurance while his wife, Laura, was receiving costly chemotherapy treatments for a blood disease that will likely lead to cancer. The medical bills last year, she says, were in the tens of thousands of dollars. "There's no way I could possibly go through one treatment without him having insurance," she says. Like many other divided GM families, the Hanleys decided even though the job was important, there were reasons not to uproot everyone: Laura works at their sons' Catholic school, the boys are immersed in band, Scouts, basketball and church, and the sale of a house was an iffy and perhaps money-losing proposition. Hanley knew it would be a trade-off — financial security for a lonely existence. His eyes mist as he talks about what he misses: dinner with his family, coaching basketball, going to the YMCA with his boys, wrestling with them at night, attending their concerts and games, watching them grow up. "It's an adjustment, not being home," he says. "I probably sounded cruel because I said I wouldn't miss my wife as much because she's going to be there when I come back, when I retire. But those years with the kids aren't going to be there. That's the hard part, not being able to be around them. ... I don't know if I really appreciated it before." Hanley plans to commute another 18 months, until he turns 50, hoping for a retirement package then — something, he says, he "prays about every night." Laura, meanwhile, does double duty as a single parent. It's all overwhelming — working, shuttling her sons around, keeping an eye on her elderly mother and worrying about her husband's long commutes. "The kids are tired of seeing mom cry because she's stressed and seeing dad cry when he needs to go back to work," she says. "We're really close — the four of us. You can't talk to more

Resolved Question: Is my life worth the sacrifice? Either answer or tell me it's too long.?

Hi there, I'm an 18 year old male currently in the 2nd term of 1st year university. I have a physical disability (cerebral palsy) affecting my legs but i can walk on my own, i only get tired easily. I am studying math/business at one of the best schools in the world. i won't say which in case people reading can identify who i am. the math here is very tough but i have always loved math since i was a kid so i know this is definitely where i want to be. i've also always grown up with the beliefs of going to university as all my cousins have. sometimes i wonder though, is all of this worth it? I ask because something happened today that made me wonder. I had a week off from school so I went home. I worked hard on assignments the whole week and decided it was Friday night and I should take a break. We moved into a new house so we lost our tv remote and use a digital cable one. I thought I could play Xbox for the rest of the night and then sleep but i find that i can't play without the tv remote to switch between inputs. I was so angry(maybe immature), but it was after working without breaks. Then I figured this may pretty much sum up the rest of my life. Ever since I was a kid, I always felt I was special. I was destined for something great and I was indeed deemed "gifted" through standard testing when I was 8. However, as I went into high school things changed. I went to a middle school with low standards and was told I was wasting my future, though I didn't believe it at the time. My school focused more on behaviour and it was one of the worst schools in the region, I hated the students there to be honest although I did score 90s. Those marks came easy though. I applied for advanced program in high school and got accepted though I dropped out of it after grade 10 because I felt I worked too hard and it wasn't worth it. Alot of others were dropping out of it as well but we stayed at the same high school. I worked so hard in Grade 11 and 12 and while my marks were in the 80s, I still feel like I worked much harder than anyone else. I had friends and believe I was well liked but sometimes I wondered whether i worked too hard in high school. I also had a crush on the most popular girl in school in grade 11 and she eventually found out. She was nice to me and I felt like she tried flirting with me but I never knew she knew about my situtation and wasn't sure what her actions meant. I got jealous of other guys that hung out with her so i'd always argue(jokingly) in class with people to the point where she thought i was annoying. I eventually talked to her about my feelings but I felt stiffed in the situation though i never told anyone. she was nice to me since but i always felt deep down she had a bit of a grudge against me or that it was always awkward seeing her. last time i saw her was at graduation where we had an awkward "hi" as we crossed paths. Then university came and I love the people and new friends I've made. However sometimes I wonder if again I work too hard. People are partying and having fun while I'm studying. I like to be social but how can I when I'm always studying? This week sums it all up. When I logged on to facebook earlier this week, I got an update of people commenting on the profile picture of the girl I used to like. It was a picture of her kissing her boyfriend lip to lip. It sort of shocked me though I don't like her like before. I don't know her bf well but I heard he was a bit of a flirt although she is too. I just felt she was so caring and nice and that I looked better with her but I don't care as much as before. What really ticked me off is the Xbox. I mean i work hard and instead i see my old crush kissing and then no time to relax at all. I finally ask is this all worth it? Maybe to the math nerd but truth is I don't believe I am one. I like to be social, go clubbing, etc. I know about current entertainment and am a big time sports fan. I live in Toronto so I am very passionate about hockey, baseball, basketball, and football. My role model since I was 7 was Mats Sundin(retired hockey player) and I always bring up sports in convos with friends. So I'm no nerd, I like to be social but I thought, I worked hard in high school and now and still don't feel satisfied like everyone else does. I feel like even after compeleting university, I get a job which pays well but I'll still be WORKING!! And somehow, I'll still feel dissatisfied and wish I could have fun. I just wish i could experience things everyone else does. Have the social life, date girls, and find a way to balance my lifestyle but maybe i can never do it. I used to be such a positive guy but the last year or so has changed me. more

Resolved Question: Why are Recruitment Agencies and Employers being so dam ruthless?

why are recruitment agencies and employers being so dam ruthless? I have been looking for a job now for almost a year!! I have lived abroad for many years and have gained a lot of work experience from being self employed in the UK and abroad i have exceptional management experience and have employed many people and have contributed to the growth of four different companies. Now my problem is i have all this experience and transferable skills at senior management level and could be placed into most management positions as i have the skills and experience, but yet when i apply for various positions i can match the job title perfectly and perhaps 90% of the job description in most cases, i just get rejection after rejection. The problem i have is, i have been self employed since i left school at 16, i am now 37 with bags of experience in business, been out the country for over 5 years, i have never needed to do a CV, but due to the crisis over the past couple of years i find myself looking for a job for the first time! My Cv has been checked by various agencies and they say its fantastic some great achievements, all very well, but i am gutted i'm not getting a chance for an interview. So back to my question "why are recruitment agencies and employers being so dam ruthless." I understand agencies work on commission etc, but to meet a 100% of the criteria stated in the job description is almost impossible, not only for me, but for most people i'm sure. I feel if you want to try out a new job in a different industry forget it because every position states you have to have proven experience in that field of work. To me as a former boss it doesn't matter if you feel you can do the job, unless you have been selling cars and you want to be a brain surgeon, then yes, you study for that and then become qualified etc, but, what if you have not studied, perhaps you don't have the money to study, but yet, you have the talent and experience you've gained from working up the ranks from a young age and you can transfer those skills to many different industries. Lets look at sales - sales is basically common sense, it doesn't matter what the product it is, its how you sell it, there is no difference in selling a car as to selling a house just different paper work and procedures, but, "how long does it take to learn those procedures?", not long, a week or so!! So you can see my frustration in these recruitment agencies and employers, they should be more flexible, there is so much talent out there that just doesn't get recognized, millions of people are unemployed, my way of thinking is different as i used to give people a chance to prove there worth even if they didn't quite fit all the job description, they were enthusiastic and determined and well motivated and could demonstrate the will to work, how could i say no!! My conclusion is the recruitment agencies and perhaps the many company's out there seeking new recruits, i say this; don't throw away talent, 3 seconds reading a CV is ridiculous, don't say you don't have time to go through hundreds of CV's i suggest you make time, you might just find the next best employee!!! No disrespect to those who have a degree, there should be new system like for every 3 years of work experience counts for 1 year at university, so someone with 9 years of work experience in their line of work is equivalent to having a degree + you have the added value of having actually worked, this could be fair to those who didn't chose the university route. May be things have to change, the rules are to tight and incredibly competitive, no wonder there are so many talented people out there that just cant get that opportunity with degrees and the many without!!!! To those who are looking for a job, don't give up, Keep the faith!!! more

Resolved Question: Why do people whine and complain about Wall Street instead of studying hard and getting a job in finance?

Wall Street (except maybe at the very top) is as close to a meritocracy as you can get in the American labor market. Wall St. firms and hedge funds hire based on your intelligence, your test scores, and your college background. So instead of whining about how "unfair" the banker bonuses are, why not get off your lazy butt, open up some physics and math and economics books, study hard, go to a good college, do well in your classes, score well on aptitude tests like the GMAT or LSAT, and then apply for a job in finance, or with an elite consulting group like McKinsey? That's what I did, before I went to law school. I did well in high school, got into a top college, majored in econ, did well in my classes, and then went to work as a junior analyst for JP Morgan. Now, in my case, I didn't really like the long hours or the stressful atmosphere, so I quit and went into law and went to work for my dad's firm. But if you want the huge money, you just have to stick with it, go to an elite business school like Harvard or Stern, then get yourself into the management track. You could also lateral over into a boutique firm or hedge fund. If you have a physics/math background, you can go into quantitative finance, too. A top-notch hedge fund quant can make millions in a single year. But instead of doing this, all I see Americans doing is whine, whine, whine. I see lazy high school kids getting pregnant and smoking rock instead of studying hard. Well you know what? You get into life what you put in. Don't hate on the bankers for working way harder than you've ever dreamed was possible. They didn't choose for you to be lazy. YOU chose that fate for YOURSELF. more

Resolved Question: What types of jobs can I get with a degree in Sustainable Business?

I'm considering majoring in Sustainable Business, which is basically like a mixture of Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, and Business Administration. It focuses on environmental policy, problems, and sustainability, but views it from a business/economic standpoint. I know I want to major in some form of Environmental Studies and Sustainable Business seems to be the most interesting and the most practical in terms of courses. Instead of focusing only on environmental problems, it puts the most emphasis on ways to correct the problems and create a greener economy. With this degree, what jobs could I get? I mean actual jobs that have openings available at least semi-regularly. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna major in this regardless of job prospects since I plan on going to grad school anyway, but in case I decide not to I'd still like to have a degree that can get me a job doing something environmental. more

Resolved Question: Perv or am i paranoid?

Ok so this year we got a new teacher for business studies . He doesn't teach us much and isn't really a great teacher. He always seems to flirt with people (my school is an all girls school) and he never gets mad at me when i don't do my homework and whenever i walk past him on the corridor he has this weird perv smile and he kinda looks at me from the corner of his eye , It seems to be really only me that this happens to , and i tbh don't get why cos there's way prettier girls in the class than me.... at first we kinda made a joke of it but now im kinda freaked out and i don't like walking down the hall in case i bump into him . Today i was standing talking to my friends and i was wearing a skirt and he walked past and just looked at me not anyone else and looked at my legs. (im 14 btw) Ok well i cant tell anyone cos he hasn't actually done anything to me but im dreading his classes am i too paranoid ? is there another reason ? or is he just a pervert?? what do i do? please no silly answers just HELP ME! :( more

Resolved Question: Do you think possibly because of the poor education our schools offer now is why there is so much ignorance?

Of History and they the fundies trust there Preachers who in most cases have limited education them selves and are only repeating what they were told rather than have actually studied and learned it there selves? I've known fundamentalist Preachers who know absolutely nothing of Christian History other than what Jack Chic and others like them have told them.I mean they honestly believed higher education was sinful and all they or there followers need to know is in the bible. And yet the Apostles were not illiterate men by no means and for there time would have been considered well educated and successful business men.Free at last... Free from what?I honestly do not blame the Kids for there education but the parents, teachers, and society in General.I coached and trained amateur boxers for yrs, and most of the young men were just hungry for some one to look up to. I was amazed how little of History they knew, and how eager most were to learn it. And yet almost all of these kids were getting passing grades, and some were already to start college, and had made all the arrangements to go and were already accepted. If any doubt me and think you've got a good education, just look up the Salina Kansas School eight grade requirements to pass on to High School at the start of the century or slightly later. Here i did it for you......http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geutuG52hLDDoAdj1XNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEzcXY4MzRnBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDNgRjb2xvA2FjMgR2dGlkA0g0ODVfMTM3/SIG=11q89l9rs/EXP=1265252614/**http%3a//www.wilk4.com/humor/humors4.htmLazy Bones maybe you better start correcting spell checker as it showed no errors. But i will admit as i've gotten older, and specially after i had my 5 heart bypasses my memory is missing some things, and my spelling is not what it once was.Susanna i was not even thinking about your 7th day adventist Church or any Church in particular. And as hard as you wished it were true. The Catholic Church is a Church as only protestants have denominations. So in your case if the shoe fits wear it.Ruth unlike your Church history Learning i studied History and Christian history was my favorite and that is why i'm Catholic today. Resolved Question: Marquette U, Howard U or UWMadison?

I found out I got deferred @ UNC-CH (not rejected, just deferred- nt bad for an oos). Unfortunatley, my cum. went down from a 3.6 to a 3.55 thanks to my stupid teachers who just this year decide to make me less valuable to other colleges. I get to take the ACT over on Feb. 6th, and I've been taking practice tests, studying more than I usually did w/ my other ACT tests (highest score= 22). Waiting for Georgetown, too, but I'm not sure I want to go there. Idk y i even applied. Gotta wait for both in March....right now my choices (the last three i applied for, i applied for 5) are Marquette, Howard or UWMadison....where should I go, just in case? I want to go to a school that ppl will look @ me for and say, "DANNNNGGG- an AA (african american) CHICK went to that school?! She SMART!", have no bigger than medium size classes (not so huge where i'll nvr get the teacher's attention, that might be a problem), will get me away from my parents (cause i am so sick of them its unREALLLLL), great in terms of business and journalism schools, will actually TEACH me something (I've attended MPS my whole life, and it suxs), and allows me to discover myself on my own, teaches me to grow. Plus, I want to become famous. If that helps. At all. But i want to be different from every1 either way. more

Resolved Question: History essay..........................?

Adrian Anderson In this essay I’m going to discuss how Martin Luther King’s early life affected his philopshy and beliefs on civil rights. I believe that to a strong extent racism affected his thoughts and views dramatically But the question has to be asked what influenced king decide to take it upon himself to start a revolution to get equality between the races as almost every if not every single black person received segregation. Due to the work that he and others done to break down the barriers has had an everlasting effect as although it’s not perfect but there is equality between all races and racism/segregation isn’t institutionalised/sewed into society. King was brought up in a religious background with both his Father and grandfather being ministers. He was bought up with the mentality that all people deserved respect regardless of their race, this may of led him to believe that the African Americans deserve. Although as a young child he said was determined to hate every white person but he soon changed he’s views as he became older. From a very young age King experienced discrimination for example he’s friends father told his son not to play with King due to the fact that he was black. This may of lead him in future to stand up and make a change as he didn’t want he’s kids to go through the same things that he went through as a young child for instance when he instance he had to tell his daughter that she couldn’t but ice cream in certain area’s due to the fact that she was black this may of led to he’s I have a dream speech where he says say’s “I have a dream that my daughter may not be judged on the colour of her skin but by the contents of her heart” King was an extremely intelligent child and attended Booker T. Washington high school where he received poor education 2nd rate to what a white child would’ve had. But he didn’t let that hold him down and received Doctor of Philosophy. If he wanted a day out instead of having the right to sit wherever he had to sit at the back of the bus (colored section) and the destination of he’s journey would’ve been influenced by the color of the color of his skin he wouldn’t have gone to fun town where the best rides at the time where he would go to “nigger town” where the 2nd rate attractions where because that’s how the blacks were seen as 2nd class or inferior to the whites As a student studying at university chances are that you’re not going to be able to commute to your house easily and therefore you have to rent accommodation so as Martin Luther King talked about getting flats over the phone and there many available but when the sales people realize he’s black as they see him in person suddenly all the available accommodation has been taken up so the mentality that was instilled into businesses was that they would be able to refuse people due to the color of their skin and in this case possibly leaving somebody homeless or in sub standard living conditions due to color of their skin The way African American’s were treated in that day and age was despicable. And Martin Luther King during his life experienced an immense amount of racism and probably more so in his younger years. He’s been to restaurants were he’s been refused service due to the fact that he was black and when he demanded service on one occasion he demanded service and on an another he had a gun pointed at him. But in both of these instances he knew that he wasn’t going to get served as he went in there and the only reason he went there was to create a scene to try to voice the issue and making people take notice even if it’s that on a small scale or walking through the streets with thousands of people during his later life on a greater scale. King during he’s younger days was in love with a white girl and was advised by he’s own friend’s to stop seeing her due to the fact that he was black and she was white. This may of lead him to become angry and upset due to the fact that one of the loves of he’s lives, he can’t marry hear due to the fact that he was black and she was out of he’s league so this may of made him determined to break down the barriers between the races so that everybody if free to love who they choose regardless of their race I believe that one of the factors that contributed to King making a stand against racism is the way that the USA and in particular “down south” states such as Georgia we institutionally racist so that may of restricted him in what he really wanted to accomplish in life as he’s 1st choice profession wasn’t being a pastor and he may of felt that getting held back due to any difference especially the colour of your skin as wrong and he wanted he’s children and future generations of African American children to be the best that they can be to be the best that he can be and that as he was a Christian he wanted to live with he’s brothers and sisters regardless of their race. I can now conclude that due to multiple factors e.g. person more

Resolved Question: Will an MBA make it easier for me to get a finance job that will sponsor me a series 7 exam?

I graduated Spring of '09 with a BS in Business Admin. from University of California Riverside. I planned on hitting the ground running, but found myself stuck between a hard place and a rock. My goal was to get a job in a finance firm, and then receive sponsorship for a series 7 exam, yet all the job postings since my graduation haven't offered much interest to my goal. Every position in a finance firm requires the applicant to have a series 7 and 66 before applying, yet how do I get one if I can't find sponsorship. This places a sort of catch-22 on my situation. In one case, I want to work for company A to get sponsored for the series 7, but in the other case, company A requires series 7 prior to applying for the position. All my job searches have lead me to the same predicament. I understand that we are in a recession, so I have been studying in the mean time for the past 3 months to take the GMAT. I believe if I go to a decent b-school, it should open some doors for me to get into a firm that might give me sponsorship. I am still young, 23 years old, and don't mind going back to school for an additional 2 years if that means I can get the ball rolling. Do you guys think that what I am planning is a good idea and it will help me in the long run, or am I wasting my time? Like I mentioned previously, I am young and don't mind going back to school as long as it gets me going towards my goal. In addition, I figured going back to school during a recession is better than sitting at home working part time making little to nothing. more

If he wanted a day out instead of having the right to sit wherever he had to sit at the back of the bus (colored section) and the destination of he’s journey would’ve been influenced by the color of the color of his skin he wouldn’t have gone to fun town where the best rides at the time where he would go to “nigger town” As a student studying at university chances are that you’re not going to be able to commute to your house easily and therefore you have to rent accommodation so as Martin Luther King talked about getting flats over the phone and there many available but when the sales people realize he’s black as they see him in person suddenly all the available accommodation has been taken up so the mentality that was instilled into businesses was that they would be able to refuse people due to the color of their skin and in this case possibly leaving somebody or in sub standard living conditions due to color of their skin more

Resolved Question: We know hot dogs can be junk, but R we getting pet food in our hamburgers?

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/31/us/31meat.html " The company, Beef Products Inc., had been looking to expand into the hamburger business with a product made from beef that included fatty trimmings the industry once relegated to pet food and cooking oil. The trimmings were particularly susceptible to contamination, but a study commissioned by the company showed that the ammonia process would kill E. coli as well as salmonella. Officials at the United States Department of Agriculture endorsed the company’s ammonia treatment, and have said it destroys E. coli “to an undetectable level.” They decided it was so effective that in 2007, when the department began routine testing of meat used in hamburger sold to the general public, they exempted Beef Products. With the U.S.D.A.’s stamp of approval, the company’s processed beef has become a mainstay in America’s hamburgers. McDonald’s, Burger King and other fast-food giants use it as a component in ground beef, as do grocery chains. The federal school lunch program used an estimated 5.5 million pounds of the processed beef last year alone. But government and industry records obtained by The New York Times show that in testing for the school lunch program, E. coli and salmonella pathogens have been found dozens of times in Beef Products meat, challenging claims by the company and the U.S.D.A. about the effectiveness of the treatment. Since 2005, E. coli has been found 3 times and salmonella 48 times, including back-to-back incidents in August in which two 27,000-pound batches were found to be contaminated. The meat was caught before reaching lunch-rooms trays. In July, school lunch officials temporarily banned their hamburger makers from using meat from a Beef Products facility in Kansas because of salmonella — the third suspension in three years, records show. Yet the facility remained approved by the U.S.D.A. for other customers. Presented by The Times with the school lunch test results, top department officials said they were not aware of what their colleagues in the lunch program had been finding for years. In response, the agriculture department said it was revoking Beef Products’ exemption from routine testing and conducting a review of the company’s operations and research. The department said it was also reversing its policy for handling Beef Products during pathogen outbreaks. Since it was seen as pathogen-free, the processed beef was excluded from recalls, even when it was an ingredient in hamburgers found to be contaminated. The Beef Products case reveals a schism between the main Department of Agriculture and its division that oversees the school lunch program, a divide that underscores the government’s faltering effort to make hamburger safe. The U.S.D.A. banned the sale of meat found to be contaminated with the O157:H7 strain of E. coli 15 years ago, after a deadly outbreak was traced to Jack in the Box restaurants. Meat tainted with salmonella is also a hazard. But while the school lunch program will not buy meat contaminated with salmonella, the agriculture department does not ban its sale to the general public. Even so, E. coli outbreaks nationwide have increased in recent years. And this summer, two outbreaks of particularly virulent strains of salmonella in hamburger prompted large recalls of ground beef across several states. " Thoughts?Alex, actually, before USDA, people paid attention to what was in the food. more

Resolved Question: What do you think about juvenile crime in South Korea?

From koreantimes Juvenile Crime Increasing Juvenile crimes have been on the rise over the last few years while the average age of teenage criminals has been decreasing. Crimes committed by minors from 12- to 19-years-old jumped from 25,946 in 2006 to 41,754 last year, according to Rep. Joo Kwang-deok of the governing Grand National Party. According to research, the main reason crimes were committed was to make money to spend on entertainment. Crimes committed by accident and out of curiosity followed. By charges, larceny was the highest with 10,920 cases while violence and committing traffic violations as members of motorcycle gangs followed. The number of juveniles committing felonies, such as robbery and assault, also went up from last year. In 2001, 20 percent of juvenile offenders were 17-year-olds followed by 16- and 18-year-olds. Last year, 23 percent were 16 and 18 percent were 15. Joo said each judge of the Busan Family Court handled 4,913 juvenile cases last year. ``It is impossible for (the judges) to be in charge of every case and we need to establish a court for juvenile offences or assign more judges,'' he said. No more than five years ago, the term ``juvenile delinquent'' mainly referred to badly-behaved male students in secondary schools. But now it is quite difficult to identify the gender of offenders when individuals hear about a crime in which young students are involved. It is because the number of female teenagers causing serious crimes is poised to outnumber that by males. In December last year, a user created content (UCC) in which several female students in school uniform are assaulting another girl student was posted on a local UCC-only Web site. The offenders were punching, slapping and kicking the victim. They even attempted to strip off the victim's uniform. Fortunately, the police, who had tracked them down through a cyber investigation, charged them with mob violence. In May this year, ten female students from a primary school in Daejeon, North Chungcheong Province, were involved a group fight that left several casualties including one student suffering brain-damaged. The reason for the fight was trivial: one group of students provoked another, saying they did not want to see their colleagues studying English in a classroom. While types of female-led misconducts in the past were limited to something unpremeditated and minor, recent crimes break down the time-honored legacy. The following is a case showing how brutal and violent current female student-led crimes are. In November 2005, a 16-year-old girl was seized in Seoul on suspicion of running a buying-and selling-sex business. Reportedly, she conned several runaway girls with a proposition to make money and then forced them into prostitution. She even extorted what they earned. The money she had blackmailed for a month amounted to 1.3 million won ($1,500). Reportedly, she frequently assaulted those who refused to sell their bodies. Crimes by female juvenile on the rise The number of crimes committed by female attackers is increasing. Statistics compiled by the Foundation for Preventing Youth Violence (FPYV) show how steeply the number has grown. In 1999, female students accounted for only 2.2 percent of all offenders causing in-school crimes. But the number soared to 10 percent in 2006. According to a report released by the National Court Administration, a total of 25,946 juveniles were charged in 2006 with committing physical and psychological crimes such as physical violence, verbal abuse, bullying and extortion. The number has declined after hitting its highest of 30,706 in 2001. These figures indicate that the overall number of such crimes reported to local courts has gradually dropped. But the interesting thing is that the percentage of juveniles convicted is increasing. While, around 4,700 or 15 percent of those charged in 2001 were put behind bars, a fourth of those charged last year were imprisoned. Moderate punishment makes it worse As the figures above show, female students are no longer just victims of school violence. Many school authorities and the government are also stepping up their efforts to curb the upward tendency. But many experts say moderate punishment against school attackers is making the situation worse. A 13-year-old girl had her 11th police investigation in 2005. She was charged with breaking into a neighbor's home to steal valuables. What she did was serious enough to be jailed. But she was released following the investigation due to her age. Her first crime was actually not that serious. But her school had no countermeasures against school crimes. Teachers at the school, who had once scolded her for a series of wrongdoings, paid no attention to her as her misdeeds persisted. She became familiar with bad boys around the school and then started getting involved in crimes such as theft, assault and even hou more

Resolved Question: Question about Adobe Photoshop cs4 design premium student edition. Extremely desperate!?

So for Christmas my Mom & Dad bought me Adobe Photoshop cs4 design premium student edition from Amazon. Naturally I was ecstatic, but seeing as how this was my third present I opened I didn't bust into it right away, I had more to come. Instead between presents I read the box and noticed it said "Student Edition products are for purchase by higher education students only. A Higher education student is defined as full- or part-time student enrolled at a higher education institution that is an accredited public or private university or college (including community, junior, or vocational colleges) that grants degrees requiring not less than the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time study." Alright, so here's the deal. I'm in a vocational college half the day while I'm in high school. My school does require me to take two years, but only because I am in cosmetology. But they monitor whether I make it into the second year or not. So, I suppose my question is, does this count? And does it count even thought I'm in cosmetology? And if it doesn't count, then what business did Amazon have selling this program to my dad without proof of College id & etc? Because every other site requires you to prove eligibility before you even purchase the program. My dad said he checked everything on the page, because it was on sale at a price of 300 bucks, so he was skeptical. I cannot find this program on amazon anymore. So this wasn't a mistake made by my Dad. And, another site (http://www.academicsoftwareusa.com/specials.cfm) says this: "The educational discount is available to students and teachers in K-12 and higher education. Educational licensing is available to educational institutions." I'm not sure if this is just limited to the site, or if I can have this program if I'm in high school. Oh, and yes, I am a senior. just in case anyone needs to know. I really need help, this is something I've wanted for a very long time, I've been going graphic arts for 5 years and this is a dream come true. Only, it really hasn't come true yet until this program is on my computer. [PS: Does anyone know if the student edition and regular editions have a difference in programs? If the student edition lacks anything the regular edition has?] Thank you SO much. I really hope someone makes my Christmas wish come true and answers me! :]I noticed that on the previous post, that I said http://www.academicsoftwareusa.com/specials.cfm said I could be in highschool. I read the wrong one, I was reading the regular version, not student edition. Sorry! Student edition there says well alot of stuff, aha. more

Resolved Question: Do I have a chance at becoming a hustler?

I'm in high school right now and I'm located in a country(was U.S.A, right now... in continent of asia) which I suppose has a very bright future, since I was a kid , It was my dream to always end up in a high flying blue collar job somewhere up in Wall Street and slowly become a partner of big firms, but I have so many ambitions, but my wall street dreams deviated once I moved to the land of the software people, I have so much on my mind, I'm currently taking the Business and Commerce stream in my high school and most of my classes are cakewalks for me, I used to flunk half the time in tenth with science and math, I still have math but I mean the Business Studies textbook and Economics textbooks come to me naturally, I dont even have to study for tests and I can ace them, I savour every bit of these books... I'm not an einstein at math so acing the SAT test and landing in some Ivy league is not my priority, it is to me, still a dream. But one great thing I got going for myself right now , sorry if I sound like an oppertunist(hey, told ya I wanted to be a hustler), but right now, I go to one of the most prestigious schools in my city and I have politician's sons as my friends, and construction baron descendants sitting behind my chair, I mean, I know people to can make things happen with a clap. When I get back to the states, I plan to go to a decent B-School and bachelor in accounting, as that is the blood of all forms of business and it would help me become business literate, and then I plan to major in Finance....after that, I plan to become an ERP consultant in case any of my plans dont work as I obviously need a back-up strategy, I will later use the initial salary earned for my ambitions should anything go haywire.....but if the wind is right, I plan to use some of my "connections"(trust me, not petty people, close people too) as my venture capitalists, to start my own soft-drink company, and after a few years, I plan start a construction/real estate company (like TRUMP)and take both of my companies public, eventually I also would like to fullfill my dreams of starting an electric automobile company along with a Insurance company. My dad(who was a small time restuarant owner), has a little idea about my plans, as I told him, but I didn't exactly give him the blueprint I gave you guys even though I think he has an Idea. All I want to know is am I being too overconfident or am I correct about my timing? I consider my self very fortunate to have the right things happen to me so far, its like everything is lined up for me, all I got to do is shoot. I know exactly how hard it is to fulfill dreams, everybody has dreams, only some fulfill it. My mom say isn't exactly pessimistic but she knows me and my network, and I dont think the chances I have aren't something I'm overmining, am I? Let's think about it, sons of politicians, sons of barons as my friends, potential backers, dreams of mine...they can pay for. See, I dont want to act overconfidant and start crying if any of these visions actually get nowhere, but I'm a person who believes in vision, and I wouldn't even rely on just my contacts to get me anywhere, but I can trick a person into buying their own shoes.....Plus I have great managerial skills.... So I'm being optimistic. Is everything in my favour? more

While growing up in Mimai, Edward has a large group of friends going to college. Edward has never considered college due to the family pressure on him to take over the business. Edward based upon his father's pressure has determined he will not go to college, but will instead take over management of the family restaurant upon graduation. He has even though about other options for his future career and life. Identify, what stage of Erikson's 8 life stages? What is your supporting data and theororetical justification? Resolved Question: Would like to get my teaching degree...?

I am currently enrolled at the University of Phoenix majoring in Human Resource Management. I was trying to get my Bachelor's in Business Administration, and I will be done in Spring 2012. I really have a passion for teaching school aged children (6th grade) and I have worked with children practically all my life. I am halfway into my studies at U of Phoenix, but I want to know what I can do to get my credentials to teach 6th grade, without starting over completely. I don't know if I should just wait and finish my degree and then start again with getting my masters in Education (which is unnecessary for teaching elementary school aged children) or is there another way around that. If anyone knows i would really appreciate the assistance. helpful tips: i live in California ( just in case that makes a difference in the whole credentials process) i only wanted a degree in Human Resource Management because I want something else to fall back on when the economy gets much worse for school districts i receive financial aid, so i don't know if that will affect my going to another school while I am going to University of Phoenix (FAFSA only pays for one school right?) more

Resolved Question: Paying for college? lol...?

Any encouragement? Okay, Ive always dreamed of going to a nice University, living in a dorm, studying in the library, but I've never even hoped to. My mom has only made 13k a year since I was born. She put me and my siblings in home school, which prevented any of us from getting scholarships. Her plan was for us to enter community college at a young age and then.... I really don't know what she expected. So now i am in a community college, and I hate it. Most of the people are double my age and married with kids. Its not just that; most of them act like they don't even care about school. Once, my classmate told me that the school was for losers, and the school just wanted our money. At first I just thought he was a loser, but, when I considered his perspective, I realized he had a very good point. I want to work so hard to go to a university, I'm willing to do whatever it takes. I want to be around people with potential and great aspects of life. I feel stuck. Ive done everything I could to be different from the crowd, but its not paying off at all. I'm thinking about just getting a 20k job and start saving money for my future generations so they can go to college. I feel that its not fair my mom has me in this situation, but I dont blame her at all. She tried really hard to come up. She went to the same school im going to now, and got her associates in art with a 3.7 gpa! So while people are telling me to hit the books hard to get scholarships, I really don't think that's the case. I think its all about having connections, and my family has no connections. My mom earned a 3.7 GPA while caring for four kids and working full time. You would think that would earn her some type of recognition. But I think nobody truly cares about people in community college. I'm very smart too, I'm passing all my first semester classes with an A, including college algebra. I even scored into business calculus on the placement exams, but I wanted to be sure I mastered algebra. While most of my peers are running around acting ignorant, Im doing my utmost to succeed, but its not getting me nowhere. I cant get a 4.0 gpa because I got a B in a college level class that i took in 11th grade. I've went to my advising office, and I could tell they didn't care at all. I asked an adviser for help choosing a major (im 18 btw). The adviser gave me a link and password to a website called career cruiser. He told me he wasn't sure if the password would work because the school was low on money, and, of course, It didn't. Few people tell me to do my first two years here and then transfer to a university, but im starting to see its not going to work out that way. I feel like I'm so limited. Ive looked up University prices in Chicago, not including dorm, and they averaged about 20,000$ a year. I cant imagine paying that much. That's almost more than my mom makes in 2 years. My brother is in the Army and he makes 24,000 a year, so I was thinking about joining the army so my future kids will have the privilege, and can hope to go to college. Myself, I have no hope. I feel like a waisted brain. I know I have what it takes to over exceed university standards, but I've never thought about having the chance to use this potential. I have so many theories of life that I wish I could discuss with a true professor. But too bad for me lol.... more

Resolved Question: Chances of getting into a top 15 MBA program?

Hi, I am currently getting undergraduate degrees in Finance and Management from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University (top 15 bachelor's business school- I think it usually ranks at times number 5, number 7, number 9, number 11 and number 15) and minor degrees in french and journalism. At graduation time, if I have a -3.6 GPA -Two internships -A thesis paper published on a theory on immigrant entrepreneurship in America at different decades with statistical proof conducted in new york city (published in a scholarly journal) -Started and am president of a Management Skills Improvement club (wrote a few case studies with the help of faculty) -Started a philanthropy initiative raising a couple thousand dollars of money each year for inner city schools and volunteer program -Member of and write in the journal of an Emerging Markets club -Study abroad at Oxford University (Among other things I am still planning on doing, and job experience of 2-3 years- at a place that is still to be decided where I work diligently and dexterously) And hopefully, a GMAT score of high 600s or low 700s- right around the margin (based on practice tests) Major Hobbies: -Wine making at home (from crushing the grapes, to fertilizing and preserving)- I think I might go into a small business of selling personalized wines before I graduate -Horse Polo and riding (I attended a Polo camp in India as well) What do you think, roughly, are my chances of getting into a good MBA program. Some of the ones I am considering are: -Duke University Fuqua School of Business -Yale School of Management -Dartmouth College Tuck School of Business -Cornell University Johnson School of Business -Wharton at UPenn However, ones in the tier just below, such as UCLA are considered as well. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: My ex-girlfriend told one of my friends that she still loves me?

I've posted about my situation numerous times. Brief recap. Dated for a year and a half. I started of as a confident dude, then started losing confidence, low self esteem, etc. My ex is beautiful. She broke it off, but we still continued to hang out like a couple. She would sleep over. I would always push for the relationship, which drove her away. She also has other things she's dealing with (family, school). I become obsessive (I'm seeking counseling for this presently). It hit a head last week when I felt she was hiding something from me. Felt she met a guy, but wouldn't tell me about it. My co-worker is her roommate and she asked me if my ex was with me last night because she didn't sleep at home, which of course made me lose it. So I started texting like crazy. I will admit the thought of her being with someone else drives me nuts. My ex got so mad she told me she wanted to stop talkin, texting, emailing me,and has hit her limit with me. I realize I have issues beyond my ex (confidence, low self esteem) that I'm going to see a professional about, and I understand that. My co-worker sent me a forward of her email convo with my ex apologizing for her involvement. and here is a little snippet of it. "That's fine. I suppose it was a good thing because it sounds like you got through to him, I really hope so. He's really turned into a basket case and its really upsetting. Anyway, I do want to put this out there even though it's my personal business, I was at my girl friend's house studying last night and I wouldn't dare sleep at some guys house I just met. Especially since I still love "me". This totally floored me. I thought she stopped caring about me a long time ago. Thoughts? Any chance of reconcilation? It's been a week since I've had any communication from her. more

Resolved Question: My Law Personal Statement, what do you think?

Undoubtedly, the world of law is all around us. As I lay back in my bed I scanned the room to that find that everything was in someway connected to at least one type of law; from the licensing laws linked to my obscurely bright yellow television to the various copyright legislations that underlie every book on my shelf from Law books themselves to the classic Broon’s and Oor Wully collection. At first I saw Law as being a lucrative and corrupt area due to being brought up in amongst the family business where there would be a harmonious ‘sigh’ around the office whenever a lawyer’s letter was opened. However, I began to understand that on the other side of these letters the Lawyer must be helping someone in one way or another. This ranged from helping the financially unstable receive an extension on their payments to dealing with a suspected racial grievance from one of the workers. Following the separation of my mother and father I began to experience this help first hand. As I questioned mother on the work her lawyer had done - and continues to do - I understand how effectual and invaluable their efforts have been in all aspects of the break up; from resolving any custody discrepancies to dealing with money issues. As I watched the whole process fold-out I began to see - despite popular belief - that the people of Law are not out there to drain the financial pockets of businesses who have been subject to claims of their employees ‘slipping’ on the wet floor’s with no warning sign but are out to simply help people and to get the best possible life and future for them. In pursuit of this drive to study and come to terms with the world of Law I arranged myself a work-experience placement at WSA Lawyers in Galashiels. During my placement I shadowed a self-employed Lawyer in his office and was lucky enough to familiarise myself with the proceedings of the Selkirk Sheriff Court. I sat through several cases and saw the diverse range of people being defended by the Lawyer I was following. From ASBO breaches to neighbourhood disputes over ownership of an apple tree, I was enthralled by the work of the Lawyers and the great deal of effort required in preparation for court. I also understood that being a Lawyer is not for the light-hearted and that potent charisma and debating skills are needed when standing in court, yet outside of court obvious sensitivity and compassion is needed in order to connect and work with clients. Since my experience in court I have had an unrelenting drive to further myself as a potential law student. Alongside my enthusiasm for the subject I have committed to numerous activities within school which aimed to develop my personal and academic skills. I have recently joined the schools debating club which has greatly enhanced my speaking and presentation skills and I aim to put these into practice in the schools debating pairs competition later on this year. I have also been privileged enough to be chosen as class representative over the course of my school life and I have now been given the title of ‘prefect’ in my final year. These have helped me foster great responsibility, people skills and have also helped me work more closely with the schools and its teachers. Outwith school my interests scope from reading to taking part in a number of sports. Pertinent to my current interests I am currently reading Amanda Hewlett’s ‘Knowing Your Rights and Using the Courts’ where I am discovering everything from the roots of the British Legal System to how to sue a government body. On the sporting side, I am heavily involved with rugby, and I play for the U-18 Melrose Wasps with people from my school and further a-field, of which has taught me to become a social individual as well as a highly determined character. I believe the diversity in my subject choices will have helped me become more rounded academically and develop important working skills: Human Biology has helped me understand human relationships and developed my analytical thinking; P.E has helped satisfy my love for sport and exercise; French has helped me understand a new culture and set me up with the possibility of becoming fluent and finally English which has helped me develop my writing skills and sharpen my oral presentation. I hope that the skills gained from these courses have prepared me for the widespread aspects and branches to the study of Law. I have always believed - and will continue to believe - that to fully comprehend something you must experience it first hand. My encounter with the field of law at an early age has built the foundations of my drive to study law, from which I have constructed my present admiration for Lawyers and my pervasive interest for studying the subject. I aim to keep building on these foundations and feel that the next vital step in doing so is to be lucky enough to achieve a placement studying Law at university. more

Resolved Question: HELP!!! need rebuttal for debate (single-sex schools vs co-ed schools)?

I have a debate coming up and my team is with single-sex schools and although i have alot of good point for single-sex schools i cnt seem to find good rebuttals if the opposition were to bring up the following points for co-ed schools: Students learn how to interact and work with members of the opposite sex Collaboration between the sexes in the classroomhelps build confidence and exposes students to a greater diversity of ideas and opinions Co-ed schools better reflect the diversity of our society and foster an environment that prepares students for real-world experiences and situations Graduates from co-ed schools are socially well-adjusted and are better prepared to enter the workforce or excel in post-secondary education Students are exposed to different role models, leadership styles, and values and lifestyles Coeducation gives students the opportunity to witness and adjust to different learning styles. -Male and female students can learn from each other’s approaches and learn to collaborate, each bringing their style to bear in working for common goals. This is claimed as an important learning opportunity by advocates of coeducation. Coeducational schools are microcosms of society. -Since men and women are likely to interact in the workplace and in the home, say proponents of coeducational schools, school can be an environment in which gender differences come to be understood, preparing students for life. Students can also learn to deal with the social issues that arise in mixed company rather than avoiding them. Stereotypes can be broken by experience of the range of gender behavior. -It is claimed that girls seeing boys in the art or music class and boys seeing girls in the math, science, and technology classes gain evidence that these pursuits are not gender-linked. Some studies have shown that there is no particular benefit to single-sex education. -The study of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) in 1998, for example, found no evidence to support single-sex education as better than coed education. Another study has shown that only students from disadvantaged families significantly benefit from single-sex education. In some cases, due to legal requirements, coed schools have more experience. -It wasn’t until May, 2002 that the U.S. Department of Education made plans to revise regulations on single-sex education after a corresponding provision was added to the No Child Left Behind Act. This will encourage the development of more single-sex schools, but as this trend begins, co-ed schools may have an advantage from having “been in business” longer. Single-sex schools that have been found successful may have other causative factors contributing to their pupils’ achievement. -Some have suggested that results in the positive studies may be influenced by factors such as small class size, a stringent admissions policy, or more emphasis on academics. Some feel that segregation is a “loaded” technique. -Some people consider segregation to be the wrong answer to any issue. Can u please tell me some good rebuttals if the opposition were to bring up the following points. thank you =D more

Voting Question: I have been denied for a Canadian study permit...Shall I re-apply again to see what happens next?

A month ago, I applied for the study permit and just yesterday I received the documents from the courier service. A Letter of Refusal, the original copy of the Letter of Acceptance from the school and the Original Receipt of the processing fee. Reasons for the refusal are as follows: 1. I have insufficient ties with my country of residence. 2. I have not answered truthfully questions 12 and 13. 3. I have not answered that I will leave the country once completing my studies -> I remember noting that I will leave the country once completing on my study plan attached. My answers to the questions are 1. The fact to this matter is that I am a Bruneian-born-Korean. However, I had to return back to Korea for the military service and university..which I have fully completed my military service in Rep. of Korea Army. In addition, I do have a valid Korean passport, driver's licence and an ID card. These all-in-one-answer-pack proofs me that I am still a citizen of Korea. Why does the embassy needs to know if I have lived overseas and requires informations in regard to. What's their business to do with this very question? 2. Have I applied for any visas before? Yes, I applied once for a study permit to study in Toronto from the period of April 2003 to Dec 2004. However, this was way way back...and therefore I said No. 3. During the past 5 years, have I or family members lived in any other countries other than the country of residence for more than six months? Yes and No. Yes, as stated above since I am a Bruneian-born-Korean, living there for 18 yrs until high school. Besides this was way beyond ten years and not 5 years back story.. didn't know and still unsure to tick Yes or No to this question. Thus, I ticked No on my very first application. The only country I lived in the past five years more than six months was Canada. 2 years studying in Toronto. Apr 2003 ~ Dec 2004 I have also been on a business trip to Qatar, Doha (Middle East) for work...but this was only for 3 1/2 months.. Shall I say Yes to this question and write everything down? My course starts tomorrow (26th) which is a year long...and providing the fact that I have been refused a visa for the first time and re-applying for the new one will unlikely get me anywhere since I have been denied for the visa..I think they (the embassy) still do have the past record. I am not sure if re-applying for the new visa on a later date than the course start date may or may not effects me in any way(s) in issuing the new visa. Will there be any chances of me getting a new visa OR will it be like I may re-apply...but the chances are far below...as I am being denied and not answering the questions truthfully. Bottomline is I wasn't lying and NEVER lied on the application. It's just that I wasn't sure whether to write everything down even if this was way beyond in the years.. In some cases as to my knowledge I thought it would be much better to say NO if unsure. I did have asked my Canadian teacher to see if she can help me in anyway and she told me to try to re-apply assuming that I may get a new one regardless of the past. However, this is to an extent and not on the whole. What shall I do? Shall I re-apply? To re-apply means I have to re-take the medical exam which will costs me a lump sum plus the visa processing fee..meaning I may have to double the payment. My friends are all waiting and they want me to get together with them to study. more

Resolved Question: Help. Can't Decide. Which one? Business or Pharmacy?

Which one should I pick: business or pharmacy? I'm very passionate about business, but I don't know what job should I get after I get my Bachelors degree or MBA from it. My parents said I should be a full time student first to study pharmacy and become a pharmacist just to have a "parachute job" in case the economy goes down. Although I made a lot of research in both regarding which colleges to go to and the classes to take, I don't know which one I should pick. I used to be passionate in pharmacy, but then my route changed. I started to have a high interest and a bright passion on business stuff like marketing, sales, accounting, financing, business management, real estate, investing, retailing, and entrepreneurship. I'm still a sophomore in high school. I just need help on deciding which one I should pick or what plan should be necessary. more

Resolved Question: CASE STUDY - ALI BABA CONSTRUCTIONS?

The recent typhoon affected several cities along the coast of the south China sea. Many homes in Hong Kong were seriously damaged by typhoon and needed urgent repairs. Ali Baba Construction Company found thar it has to hire almost 3 completely new crews, 1 for each of it's shift. The problem was that "that old-timers" had known their job so well that no one had ever bothered to draw up job description for them when about 30 new employees began taking places, there was general confussion about what they should do and how they should do it. Micky, the company president , was desperate. He have about 30 new employees, ten old timers & his original factory supervisor, Marlene. He decided to meet with Lisa, a consultant from the local University of Business School. She immediately had the old timers fill out a job questionaire that listed all their duties. Arguments ensured almost at once. Both Micky and Marlene though the old timers were exaggerating to make themselves look more important, and the old timers insisted that the lists faithfully reflected their duties. Meanwhile, the customers wanted their homes to be repaired quickly. The question is: Should Micky and Marlene ignore the old timers protests and write up the job descriptions as they see fit? Why not? How would you go about resolving the differences? more

Resolved Question: Which would be more beneficial to study?

I am currently a junior in high school, and am dually enrolled in a university, where I am taking some general education classes. I love business, and I also love architecture. Would I be better off majoring in business, in which case I would want to work my way up in a company, and eventually be a CEO. Or would studying, and majoring in, engineering be better, so I could work towards being a civil engineer, and draw house plans for extra money. Like I stated, I love both very much, but which would be a better career decision? Let me know if there are any questions, and thank you for any insight you may have! more

Resolved Question: Are tough policies against illegal aliens working?

Is this not proof that Sheriff Joe and our laws being enforced are working? Is this also not proof that with out illegal aliens our crime rates do go down.? Virginia is another state that has had crime rates go down, since illegal aliens have had the laws enforced against them. Crime rate drops 6 percent over four years August 29, 2009 By Elizabeth Jackman The crime rate in Glendale has dropped by 6.3 percent between 2004 and 2008, a report released Aug. 12 by Maricopa County Andrew Thomas indicated. According to the data released by Thomas, East Valley cities had a much larger crime rate drop during the four year time span than the two West Valley cities listed. Peoria's drop was 15.2 percent. Other cities in the report were Gilbert with a 32.6 percent drop, Mesa 25.6 percent, Tempe 25.3 percent, Chandler 20.1 percent, Scottsdale 18 percent, and Phoenix 15.7 percent. “Despite a rising population and other factors that generally drive up the crime rate, Maricopa County has experienced a dramatic decrease in both crime and illegal immigration,” Thomas said. “These clear trends are occurring county-wide, and reveal the impact of both effective collaboration among law enforcement agencies and tough and visionary prosecution policies in the county attorney's office.” * The crime rate per 100,000 people in Maricopa County decreased 8 percent from 2007 to 2008 and 18 percent from 2004 to 2008. During this same period, the violent crime rate in Maricopa County dropped 8 percent and property crime rate fell 21 percent. This decline occurred even though the county's population actually grew by just under 11 percent during the same period. Thomas attributed these trends to three major factors. First, police agencies are using current technology and tactics to effectively address specific crime problems in their areas. There has also been enhanced coordination with the County Attorney's Office. One example is the identity theft protocol signed by Valley police agencies in 2005, an agreement to investigate identity theft cases that Thomas's office brokered. Second, because of tougher policies in the County Attorney's Office, prosecutors are sending significantly more serious and repeat felons to prison. From 2004 to 2008, the number of criminals in Maricopa County sent to the Department of Corrections increased 29.3 percent. Third, the joint crackdowns on illegal immigration with the Sheriff's Office have led to an unprecedented collapse in the illegal immigration population. The Center for Immigration Studies recently released a report showing that since 2007, Arizona has seen a 30 percent drop in its illegal immigrant population. This finding is consistent with substantial anecdotal evidence of declining illegal-immigrant populations during that same time, many of which were reported by the local media (such as declining school enrollment numbers, the shuttering of businesses that largely catered to illegal immigrants, etc.). Nationally the amount of decrease in the illegal-immigrant population was 14 percent according to the CIS report. Thomas said the numbers speak for themselves: “Tough policies against crime and illegal immigration do work. The lesson is obvious: more time, less crime.” http://www.glendalestar.com/articles/2009/08/28/news/news01.txt _________________ more

Resolved Question: I am weak in math, what about this major?

I am a bit weak in math, and I believe that it is not lack in skills but it is lack of practice. I understand that math is not memorizing, but math is based on practice. I consider myself weak in math because i tend to be careless about the subject. When an upcoming test is coming, I leave studying until the night before the test, knowing that i don't know where we are in the subject. It is not that i hate the subject, but i treat it like the rest of the subjects in school. I am a junior, and next year a senior. I've been looking for a major that suits me. Law is in my consideration, where it is based on understanding law and memorization. Business and management, im taking a diploma course in school just in case. I like the subject, i understand it and my grade is 80%(85% equivelant) considering it's an IB course. Architecture. I love designing. I love graphic and 3D designing. I know that it is somehow related to interior designing. I discovered that i liked the subject through Microsoft Visio, where we learned how to use the program in Computer class. As a final assesment, we were assigned a project where a customer would seek for us as architectures and want us to build them a house based on their requirment. I loved the project and my design was picked by the teacher so that i would make a model of it, and to be exhibited in the school lobby. As a requirment of this course or major, i need mathematical skills and some science courses. I am willing to focus more on math and science courses. If i am willing to take this major, i am willing to focus more on it so that i would be qualified. So anyone tell me what you think i should do, or major in. I need after i graduate from school to take some courses, as next year would not be enough for me to take 3 science courses and 2 math courses, it would be alot of pressure in one year. So again any help would be appreciated. Thanks=) more
