A new advertising code could lift confidence in green goods
The environmental project, unlike its aim to create a marketing code for children's food, requires far more than the input of marketers. The debate will be more sophisticated because this code will affect every industry, involve senior management, and be wrapped up in international government policy.
If the code gets up, the Advertising Standards Board, set up by the association but run at arm's length by an independent board of industry and community members, will have the power to judge whether an environmental claim in any ad or marketing communication is greenwash or fair. This places a huge onus on the wording of the code: it must be just right if the adjudication framework is to have teeth.
The association says terms most likely to play a critical role in the code are "additional" and "material". more

Ok so heres the deal, I know there are a billion questions asked by billions of students on what they should study in college. I am taking 2 colege courses a semester now, while I am finsihing up high school. I am sort of taking the basics (english comp., pschyc, etc.) so by the time I reach the time to go to college (this fall) I will be able to pick a major. I am undecided. I read everywhere to study what you love to do...but what I love to do is perform (mostly in theater) but i KNOW that I can't really make a living off that. So I'm stuck in a rut. My mother wants me to become either a phyciatrist (sorry for the bad spelling) or study business administration (or managment but she really want s the administration one for me). I was leaning towards business because i wouldn't mind owning a business one day but as I look at the classses, it looks like this wil be a long 4 years. Does any one have ANY advice for me at all? I just don't know what to do. And please don't suggest taking a year or so off to think about it because my parents would never allow that. moreResolved Question: Is it normal to not to want to date?

Okay, so Im interested in joining the US Navy and I was wondering if some of the answers to the questions I asked my recruiter were accurately rendered. So to all you people who are currently enlisted in the navy or have been I'd appreciate what your experience has shown you to be true concerning the matters I'm about to cover. Based on my personal characteristics and goals, do you believe joining the navy would be in my best interest? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. So to start, here is a little background on me. I am 23 years old trying to get my bachelors degree in business administration, more specifically a focus in entreprenuership or small business management. I have about 2.5 years left before I graduate and I wish to complete my bachelors degree debt free, taking 15 credit hours per semester untill I finish and then hopeful move on to an MBA program. Now, from what my recruiter tells me, the most amount of time I would expect to be out to sea is about 6 months - during my entire 4 year naval career - depending on what job I qualify for. What concerns me is whether or not I will have the time to complete a degree in the time I am with the navy. Since, from what I understand, when on shore I will be working 8 hour days, when off shore, fitting in school once traveling can be difficult to do. How accurate is my understanding of the dailey time committment? In otherwords will I be out to sea on only one rotation, or can the navy basically ship me out whenever they want and where ever they want, for how ever long they want without a moments notice? I personally dont want to take all of my classes online and wish to take my core classes at an accredited land based university that I would be required to physically attend... Plus I dont want to exit the navy after my four year term with no college degree because I was out to sea most of the time... My recruiter explained it to me as I would be be working mostly 9am-5pm, monday-friday leaving my evenings open for school and weekends... Also would I only be expected to actively serve 4 years, of an 8 year contract. How true is what he explained to me? As I mentioned earlier, finishing my degree is of most importance to me. I like the fact that I wouldn't have to worry about the financial aspects of school while in the navy, but I want to be sure I wont have a hard time of prioritizing my degree because of factors outside my own control, like being shipped off to bumb fucking egypt for 12 months, or having to work crazy hours and so forth. Keep in mind if I stayed in the civilian sector taking 15 credit hours per semester I could have a degree in 2.5 years, but most likely with debt :(. So what should I do? Join or not? Will I be able to complete a degree and be fully fuctional in my roll with the navy? Thanks! moreOpen Question: What would your earning potential be if you get a degree in finance?

I took full time classes and went during the summer and I'm sick and tired of school, but I'm the type of person that wants to get things over with. I'm a 31 year old student that's been going to school on and off for the past 7 years. My major is currently business administration and I'm getting a bit discouraged because the classes are getting so difficult. What makes it a bit more challenging is that I'm a non traditional student and have to deal with things that everyday life presents. My question is should I change my major to Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations. I've actually always been in this field but I'm currently working in a field that I love.....the medical industry. I deal with the business office side of things and have been for the past 10+ years. The only thing that 's missing in my equation is the piece of paper and honestly I don't think it matters what my degree is in just that I have one. I just found out today that my boss who's CFO (chief financial officer) has a degree in criminal justice and she's doing something completely off base. What do you guys think? Was Manny Villar really ever poor? AS I WRECK THIS CHAIR By William M. Esposo (The Philippine Star) Updated February 07, 2010 12:00 AM “Nakaligo ka na ba sa dagat ng basura? (Have you bathed in a sea of garbage?)” is the opening line of the jingle of Nacionalista Party presidential candidate Manny Villar which is featured in a television commercial that attempts to project him as having been one of the poorest of the poor. But was Manny Villar really one of the poorest of the poor as what his advertising has been projecting? A Chair Wrecker reader from Tondo who claimed to know the Villar family when they still resided there debunked that notion of Villar ever having been poor. This information was relayed to yours truly via our response email address. The former Villar family Tondo neighbor cited reference points to support his assertion that Manny Villar was never really poor — including the claim that Villar’s father used to have a “nikaladong (stainless steel clad)” private Jeep. During the 1950s, a nikaladong private Jeep is a status symbol in Tondo, definitely not the hallmark of a poor household. Considering how Manny Villar has been dodging the serious issues pertaining to his use of public office in order to add immense benefits and profits to his businesses, your Chair Wrecker decided to do some investigating. Guess what Manny Villar’s online bio revealed: “Manuel Villar Jr. was born on December 13, 1949 in Tondo, a densely populated district of Manila. He was the second of nine children of Manuel Villar Sr., a government employee, and Curita Bamba, a seafood dealer. As a young boy, he helped his mother sell fish, crabs, and shrimp in Divisoria to help earn money to pay for his education. Villar finished his education at Holy Child Catholic School in 1962, and finished his high school education at Mapua Institute of Technology in 1966. He attended the University of the Philippines-Diliman and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1970. He returned to the same school to earn his master’s degree in business administration in 1973.” In the early 1950s, the rich lived in the big compounds in Ermita and Pasay and what was called New Manila in Quezon City. In Tondo, you found the middle class and the poor as well. Former president Joseph Estrada also claims roots in Tondo but his family was never poor. Based on his online bio, Villar cannot really justify calling himself poor. The Villar Tondo home, as shown on his 2009 TV commercials, was made of sturdy materials. It has lasted to this day. His father was employed while his mother operated a fish, crab and shrimp dealership in lucrative Divisoria Market. It may not be Class AB household income but it is definitely not Class E. Proof that the Villar children were never really wanting is the fact that Manny Villar studied in private schools. The indigent kids went to public school. Enrolling one’s child in a private school is a middle class value and option. The indigent kids who do manage to finish high school would tend to immediately learn a craft in order to be able to earn money right away. Aspiring for a business administration master’s degree is not the usual post high school move of indigent kids. Villar narrated on his 2009 TV commercial, with Boy Abunda interviewing him, that as a young kid he thought that corned beef was soupy because that was how they used to prepare it at home. This, he claimed, was their way to ensure that everybody had a share. But the fact is that there are really two ways to cook canned corned beef. One is the dry sautéed type while the other is the soupy type where you can add potatoes and cabbage. Both the rich and the middle class enjoy corned beef both ways. Also, poor folks, especially a family of eleven, CANNOT AFFORD to eat canned corned beef. For a family of 11 to be eating corned beef confirms that the Villar family is anything but poor. That was the case then and more so now when the poor go hungry or manage to eat only one meal a day. Up to the 1980s, people from the provinces consider it a status symbol to be eating corned beef. That is why canned foodstuffs, especially corned beef, are being displayed in the sala by many households in the provinces for these to be seen by visitors. For Manny Villar to don this facade of being “poor” once upon a time just to gain political advantage should make every Filipino voter ponder as to what else he would be willing to do just to attain his objective. So I have to propose a bill on raising the minimum wage for school. There are a bunch of questions i've got to answer and the two i'm having trouble with are: What administration or organization would enforce this bill? and How much would this bill cost and how would we fund it? For the first one I really have no idea what to say. Is there a specific group that handles things like this or should I say we should create a group to make sure no business violates it? For the second one, I need to put out an approximate number, but would it even cost the government anything or would it just cost individual businesses? Thanks in advance. How much should I say it should be raised? Is there a general consensus among people who want it raised as to how much?-To Jacob Yeah, I didn't really research it before posting this. After reading a few things I completely agree with you, it would do more bad then good. Right now I have a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. My major isn't too specific really. I majored in general business. I work an ok job that's in supply chain/logistics/customs brokerage, but I don't make enough money to live out on my own yet. I'm thinking about going back to school and studying for a Master of Business Administration degree. I think I'd like to major in logistics, since I already work in that field. Also, since I work in the supply chain/logistics/customs brokerage industry, I'm also thinking about studying for a Customs Brokerage License. Would a Customs Brokerage License help open up more opportunities for me? moreResolved Question: University suggestion (business administration)?

This was the common school of thought when Bush #1 left office for Clinton. It is still taught in schools. The idea is that investors anticipate good times and want to be the first to reap the rewards. This is often a liberal mindset because they believe an economy is improved by investment through businesses spending (eg stimulus). moreResolved Question: motivation. who can check?
guys, i have written a motivation to study at the university. who can check it? i also would like to heard a critics and something what i need to change or add or remove. please, help me. motivation is very important. Dear Sir or Madam, I am Evelina and I come from Latvia and currently I am living in the UK. I graduated from the gymnasium last year. I have heard a lot about Scotland, its culture and traditions. Some of my friends, who study there, have told me many interesting things about this part of England. Having read some articles and heard some reviews from others, I decided that Scotland is the best option for me. Since I love geography and traveling, I would like to be in touch with English culture, its architecture, lifestyle, interesting people, and find myself there. I have always been interested in business, administration and IT. That is why I have chosen Scotland as a place where I can study it. And therefore, this is the best place for me to find myself in this sphere, because I am an enthusiastic, with a love of people and a determination to succeed. I imagine a career which is: fast moving, gives me the opportunity for rapid promotion, is logical and practical, provides the chance to work wherever I want.I have always enjoyed learning about business. I found it fascinating. So it is quite easy for me to talk about my career ambitions (business) and what I want to do (be employed in the field of business and IT). What concerns my traits, I suppose that I am very well prepared for business and administration. To my mind, a business background is an excellent way to a good career. I have took a gap year after school and moved to United Kingdom for understanding myself – what I really want to do in my life, to improve my English skills and gain some work and life experience ,to meet new people as well. When I was at school, I worked as a secretary in the office one of my summer holiday in Czech Republic and I liked that job more rather than my current job (general assistant at the hotel). It is good I can make a comparison between such different part of work, that is why I decided that hospitality is not what I want to study and to do. Now, after long consideration, I came to the most obvious and elementary decision – business, administration and IT field is something that I want and what I need. I would like to mention my achievements in mathematics and drawing while I was at school. I am really good at problem-solving and figuring things out, at logic and analyses. I am engaged in plotting and drawing at school and also at the art school. And once, my figure has been noted at an exhibition in Macedonia. I am a good PC user (Excel, MS-Office) as well. I think, my decision to study this particular course, was affected by my father who worked both as a construction superintendent, and an engineer. He drew and designed a lot, work on the computer, communicated with people, and was responsible for many projects. I have always watched and listened carefully to how he did his job, and have learnt a lot from him. I think I got my drawing skills, my responsibility, my logical and analytical mind and the ability to come up with fast and right decisions, from my father. I played a lot of sports as a kid. This is where I have learned the values of teamwork, how to win, how to work hard, how to focus and concentrate, and how to find a balance between my time and priorities. And I suppose that the gained experience will be quite valuable for my future life and career. To sum up, I think to study abroad is an excellent way to broaden my horizons, to make new friends, to get not only theoretical but and practical knowledge. It is wonderful starting to communicate with international people and without recognition beginning to look at world a little bit differ. In my opinion, Scotland can provide a lot of opportunities for my future career. It’s the best place to study, live and work. Studying in Scotland would be a great experience for me. I am sure I will do my best there. Thank you for considering my application Yours faithfully, moreResolved Question: I'm lookin to go to college to be an actuary, should I major in Business Administration,Business-General, or?

I'm a former high school teacher with five years experience in education. Before beginning my teaching career, I worked for a year and a half at a law office as an administrative assistant. Right now I'm at a point where I've decided I'd like to go into the non-profit sector, though I haven't had much luck finding a job. Since I didn't feel I was qualified for some of the higher level positions I'd seen, I've been trying to use my administrative background to find an entry-level clerical position that I can use to get some experience in a nonprofit and hopefully move up in the organization. Due to the competitiveness of the job field right now, I've had a few interviews but have not been chosen in favor of other candidates with more administrative experience. I was also given the feedback in the last interview process I had that I was simply "overqualified" for a $12/hr admin. job due to my professional background. Since that's the case, I've been starting to think of approaching the job search from a different angle. I think that teachers are somewhat underestimated in regards to the skills we learn on the job...it's not just about standing in front of a class teaching a lesson. You also have to know how to communicate, motivate others, sell your program (if, like me, you teach French in a state like Texas), plan events and fundraisers as a club sponsor, etc. I've revamped my resume a bit hoping to go after some of the higher level nonprofit jobs with those skills in mind. I'm just wondering if this is a good approach or if I'm wasting my time since I don't have a degree in something like marketing or finance. I'm also currently enrolled in my first semester for a Master's program for Public Administration. I'm wondering if this is a good plan or if I should maybe consider getting an associate's in finance or business. Thanks so much for any advice you can offer! moreResolved Question: Online masters degree?
