Gandhi, Nehru inspired Malaysian woman entrepreneur
Kuala Lumpur, July 6 (IANS) Malaysian woman entrepreneur G. Vimalah Nair attributes her early inspiration to portraits of Indian leaders, Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru among others, put up at home by her grandfather. She has been through years of hardship since - to win the RM 30,000 ($9,300) Woman of the Year award 2008 Saturday.
It is given annually by the Women's Institute of Management (WIM).
Nair, 55, told the audience of the hardships she endured while young, being married off at 17, only to meet with tougher times.
That did not put her off - she became a teacher and later secured a scholarship to do her masters in educational management from a British university.
She attributed her string of successes to her late grandfather, The Star newspaper said Sunday. more
The Seven Sins on the Big Screen
Producers Moritz Borman and Peter Graves have licensed film rights to the novel "The Seven Sins: The Tyrant Ascending" from Las Vegas entrepreneur Fabrizio Boccardi's King Midas World Entertainment, says The Hollywood Reporter. Jon Land's action thriller, published last month by Tom Doherty Associates' Forge imprint, centers on a Las Vegas casino owner, Michael "The Tyrant" Tiranno, the adopted son of an Italian crime lord who is called upon to defend the gambling mecca from terrorist attacks. Land has said that the character is loosely inspired by Boccardi's life story and is designed as the first of a series of James Bond-like adventure tales. Borman would produce, with Graves serving as executive producer.

Online entrepreneur cashes in on rising fuel prices
The eco-entrepreneurs are also jovial. Lord Jamie Borwick runs Modec, the £9m-turnover zero-emission light commercial vehicle manufacturer. With van drivers now paying out an average £1,250 extra a year on diesel compared to 2007, Borwick’s £30,000-a-pop vehicles suddenly look like an attractive investment. Sales this year are set to jump to a stonking £50m.
"We’re one of the few companies that are immune to fuel prices," he says.
That doesn’t mean he’s impressed with Brown’s proposed 2p rise in fuel duty.
"The last thing a government should do is increase taxes when there’s a recession. That’s effectively what it’s doing.
"Brown is urging the British public to cut spend. more

Or are they taking advantage?
Hello, I was just hoping to get some outside opinions on my dilemma. Let me explain. I am 23 years old, I have been married to my husband for 3 years now, we generally have a very good marriage and relationship. He is getting his Accounting degree and I am taking online classes. I am feeling very frustrated and overwhelmed lately. My situation is my dad got sick last week, bronchitis, and had asked me to come in and work with him at his janitorial business to help him out on Sunday, and of course I agreed with no problem. He works overnight so I don't get home until about 5:30 am or so when I work with him, and I didn't mind helping him out when he was not feeling good, although I work all day during the week. Then my dad started feeling better as far as the bronchitis but has not been able to sleep at all every night for some reason, so everyday this week he has called and says he needs me to help him. I wouldn't mind but I have to leave for work after about 4 hours of getting home. And I don't get home until about 5:30 AM. Then my husband has been doing basically the same thing by having me drive him to school in the morning and come pick him up everyday, which I also wouldn't mind but the way his school schedule is I have to leave at 7:30am to drive my husband and then leave for work at 9:00am, it leaves me Absolutely no time for sleep at all. I am completely exhausted and running on maybe a hour or two of sleep everyday. If I tell my dad I am just exhausted and getting only 1 or 2 hours of sleep a night, he says something like " I would die for 1 or 2 hours of sleep!!" or when I tell him I am just so tired and starting not to feel good myself he will say something like "I wish I was just kinda tired and just starting not to feel good!!" and then makes me feel like he is going to lose his job and everything if I don't come in and help him every night, and I start to feel really guilty and just give in. I do feel really bad for him and I don't want him to lose his job, but I also think he's getting used to the help and may be planning to keep this going. And then I feel like my husband does the same thing in a way. We live about 8-10 blocks from the University, but he says he doesn't like walking because he gets "sweaty" so he wakes me up (after I have been asleep for only a hour and have to get up for work in a hour) 15 minutes before he has to be there so he doesn't have time to walk and I HAVE to drive him. He says its too expensive to pay for parking for him to drive himself so its me driving him every morning is his only option. Im feeling soo tired and overwhelmed and exhausted, and I don't know how much longer I can keep this up, but they both make me feel like I am abandoning them if I tell them I can't do it anymore. Am I in the wrong here? Any advice? Thank You moreOpen Question: Am I in the wrong? Or are they?

I went to a major university here in VA for about 3.5 years. I had to quit because of family issues. I left withdrawing from all of my classes and with a 2.1 GPA. I would like to go back to that school, but if I do I will not be able to get into a sensible major (business, accounting, finance, etc) You know, majors that will actually land you a job. I am now 24 (unfortunately) and have a decent paying job.(family is ok now) But I want to finish school so bad that I am willing to quit this full time job to go back to school full time because I think that it will pay off. I don't want to work full time and go part time to school. I will be 30 when I am done. Problem is, I am not getting into a lot of the schools I am trying to transfer to so I have a feeling I will have to go back to my original school and major in something like liberal arts, like english or history. History would be my choice out of those. I may consider teaching because I hate being in an office all day. Do you think this will be a mistake? Is majoring in history sensible? Should I just keep this job and continue my life without a degree? I have also thought about online schools. But are they really accredited like major state universities? Will I get hired? moreOpen Question: what is the best online college to get a degree in business?

Okay, so Im interested in joining the US Navy and I was wondering if some of the answers to the questions I asked my recruiter were accurately rendered. So to all you people who are currently enlisted in the navy or have been I'd appreciate what your experience has shown you to be true concerning the matters I'm about to cover. Based on my personal characteristics and goals, do you believe joining the navy would be in my best interest? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. So to start, here is a little background on me. I am 23 years old trying to get my bachelors degree in business administration, more specifically a focus in entreprenuership or small business management. I have about 2.5 years left before I graduate and I wish to complete my bachelors degree debt free, taking 15 credit hours per semester untill I finish and then hopeful move on to an MBA program. Now, from what my recruiter tells me, the most amount of time I would expect to be out to sea is about 6 months - during my entire 4 year naval career - depending on what job I qualify for. What concerns me is whether or not I will have the time to complete a degree in the time I am with the navy. Since, from what I understand, when on shore I will be working 8 hour days, when off shore, fitting in school once traveling can be difficult to do. How accurate is my understanding of the dailey time committment? In otherwords will I be out to sea on only one rotation, or can the navy basically ship me out whenever they want and where ever they want, for how ever long they want without a moments notice? I personally dont want to take all of my classes online and wish to take my core classes at an accredited land based university that I would be required to physically attend... Plus I dont want to exit the navy after my four year term with no college degree because I was out to sea most of the time... My recruiter explained it to me as I would be be working mostly 9am-5pm, monday-friday leaving my evenings open for school and weekends... Also would I only be expected to actively serve 4 years, of an 8 year contract. How true is what he explained to me? As I mentioned earlier, finishing my degree is of most importance to me. I like the fact that I wouldn't have to worry about the financial aspects of school while in the navy, but I want to be sure I wont have a hard time of prioritizing my degree because of factors outside my own control, like being shipped off to bumb fucking egypt for 12 months, or having to work crazy hours and so forth. Keep in mind if I stayed in the civilian sector taking 15 credit hours per semester I could have a degree in 2.5 years, but most likely with debt :(. So what should I do? Join or not? Will I be able to complete a degree and be fully fuctional in my roll with the navy? Thanks! moreOpen Question: Are these sentences correct?

I have been working towards a degree in Business Accounting for awhile; attending after work, on the weekends and online. Recently I was laid off and have had a hard time getting a job partially because I do not yet have a degree. While I am still 15 class from my business degree, due to some class confusion in the beginning I already meet the requirements for my General Education degree, which is just the basic run of the mill no major specific AA degree. What I am wondering is, if I take the General Education degree, would I still only have to take the remaining 15 classes to then qualify for my Business Accounting degree? moreVoting Question: Is it worth it to explain to my Mary Kay consultant why I don't want to give her business anymore?
I originally went to a Mary Kay party back in December to take one for the team. (My fiance hangs out with a friend who is friend's with her husband. They aren't close, and quite frankly my fiance can't stand the husband, but I thought it would be a nice thing to do.) I had no intent of buying anything or becoming a "customer of Mary Kay" (aka, working for them). In the end I did decide to order some product and give it a go. About a month later, I was invited to a "get together", which was actually the promotion of my consultant's person above her. It was more like Mary Kay church, where people were witnessing to how fabulous working for Mary Kay is. I considered it but spoke with my consultant and told her the timing was not right. ( I am doing work toward my master's degree and planning a wedding, plus I teach full time. Sure the extra money would be nice but I am *not interested*). Another month passed and I was interested in scheduling another appointment with her to discuss a color palette for makeup. (I am clueless with that sort of thing.) This is where things start to get hairy, and in my opinion, boundaries were stepped on. She told me she had a goal to meet by a certain date and that she *needed* me to bring two girls to a party, and she'd *prefer* I not reschedule. I felt she was being subtly pushy, making it *my* job to fulfill her goal. Plus, I had been to one of those parties already. I did not want to hear the schpiel for the third time about how I am a great candidate to work for Mary Kay. Also, I had already referred her to all of the women who I thought would be interested. My other friends would HATE going to one of those things, esp. when they really can't afford to invest in the products. (I don't care if I get "free stuff" for bringing them....besides, to me that feels like I'm using my friends, plain and simple.) Oh, and in the end of the converation, she throws in a "You're awesome! I love you!". 1.) The only reason she thinks I"m awesome is because I'm bringing her money. 2) The "I love you" is pretentious. We are not friends. This is strictly a business relationship, and I felt even more used after she threw that line at me. The more I thought about her attitude, the more it infuriated me. In the end, I cancelled my appointment and told her I had no intentions of rescheduling. Really, I would have been quite content to have a one on one with her....but at that point, I felt I did not have the tolerance for it. I figured if she asked why, I'd explain. She has contacted me twice since then to ask if "everything is okay, and she hopes it is something she didn't do." Part of me feels responsible for informing her, and part of me feels like I should just leave it and let it be. Why get more involved than I need to? Also, while I"m on a Mary Kay rant, I really do like the product I'm using. Is there a generic "Mary Kay" online store I can buy it from, or do I have to find a consultant and join this crazy circus? Thank you for your input! moreVoting Question: How many people here didn't go to a 4 year college and still make decent money?
Do you feel okay in the decision you made? Do you think a 4 year degree is absolutely necessary to succeed in this world. Sometimes I wonder what my 4 year degree will amount to if it is not in the medical field? I have heard several people tell me that sometimes it is better to attend a trade school, community college or even just get an online degree simply because lots of people get 4 year degrees and do not even use them in the subject they got the degree in. Then, after they graduate, they find themselves in a wall of debt due to student loans. For example, I know people who have majored in Business, History or even Accounting and when they graduate, they do not even get into the profession in which they have a degree in. What's your opinion? moreOpen Question: I have a degree in Business but want to pursue an MS in Genetics?

Was Manny Villar really ever poor? AS I WRECK THIS CHAIR By William M. Esposo (The Philippine Star) Updated February 07, 2010 12:00 AM “Nakaligo ka na ba sa dagat ng basura? (Have you bathed in a sea of garbage?)” is the opening line of the jingle of Nacionalista Party presidential candidate Manny Villar which is featured in a television commercial that attempts to project him as having been one of the poorest of the poor. But was Manny Villar really one of the poorest of the poor as what his advertising has been projecting? A Chair Wrecker reader from Tondo who claimed to know the Villar family when they still resided there debunked that notion of Villar ever having been poor. This information was relayed to yours truly via our response email address. The former Villar family Tondo neighbor cited reference points to support his assertion that Manny Villar was never really poor — including the claim that Villar’s father used to have a “nikaladong (stainless steel clad)” private Jeep. During the 1950s, a nikaladong private Jeep is a status symbol in Tondo, definitely not the hallmark of a poor household. Considering how Manny Villar has been dodging the serious issues pertaining to his use of public office in order to add immense benefits and profits to his businesses, your Chair Wrecker decided to do some investigating. Guess what Manny Villar’s online bio revealed: “Manuel Villar Jr. was born on December 13, 1949 in Tondo, a densely populated district of Manila. He was the second of nine children of Manuel Villar Sr., a government employee, and Curita Bamba, a seafood dealer. As a young boy, he helped his mother sell fish, crabs, and shrimp in Divisoria to help earn money to pay for his education. Villar finished his education at Holy Child Catholic School in 1962, and finished his high school education at Mapua Institute of Technology in 1966. He attended the University of the Philippines-Diliman and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1970. He returned to the same school to earn his master’s degree in business administration in 1973.” In the early 1950s, the rich lived in the big compounds in Ermita and Pasay and what was called New Manila in Quezon City. In Tondo, you found the middle class and the poor as well. Former president Joseph Estrada also claims roots in Tondo but his family was never poor. Based on his online bio, Villar cannot really justify calling himself poor. The Villar Tondo home, as shown on his 2009 TV commercials, was made of sturdy materials. It has lasted to this day. His father was employed while his mother operated a fish, crab and shrimp dealership in lucrative Divisoria Market. It may not be Class AB household income but it is definitely not Class E. Proof that the Villar children were never really wanting is the fact that Manny Villar studied in private schools. The indigent kids went to public school. Enrolling one’s child in a private school is a middle class value and option. The indigent kids who do manage to finish high school would tend to immediately learn a craft in order to be able to earn money right away. Aspiring for a business administration master’s degree is not the usual post high school move of indigent kids. Villar narrated on his 2009 TV commercial, with Boy Abunda interviewing him, that as a young kid he thought that corned beef was soupy because that was how they used to prepare it at home. This, he claimed, was their way to ensure that everybody had a share. But the fact is that there are really two ways to cook canned corned beef. One is the dry sautéed type while the other is the soupy type where you can add potatoes and cabbage. Both the rich and the middle class enjoy corned beef both ways. Also, poor folks, especially a family of eleven, CANNOT AFFORD to eat canned corned beef. For a family of 11 to be eating corned beef confirms that the Villar family is anything but poor. That was the case then and more so now when the poor go hungry or manage to eat only one meal a day. Up to the 1980s, people from the provinces consider it a status symbol to be eating corned beef. That is why canned foodstuffs, especially corned beef, are being displayed in the sala by many households in the provinces for these to be seen by visitors. For Manny Villar to don this facade of being “poor” once upon a time just to gain political advantage should make every Filipino voter ponder as to what else he would be willing to do just to attain his objective. Wisdom from a cherished honest man Tomorrow, our family will mark the death anniversaries of our Dad and Mom who both died on the same date, four years apart. Mom passed away on February 8, 1966 while Dad passed away on February 8, 1970. Our Dad was the most honest person we knew. During the era of President Elpidio Quirino, a close friend and former classmate of Dad, an opportunity was given to Dad to make a cool P200,000 — a fortune th moreResolved Question: How do you register an affiliate marketing business in the U.S.?

Here's a question for all you brides. I currently operate a very small wedding business; I make handmade wedding stationary, favors, and other essentials. I do it online and I attend a few wedding expos to build clientele. My husband and I moved across the country for his job, and before we moved, I was venturing into consignment wedding dresses. Anyway, now that I'm in a new city, I'm thinking about starting to go a little deeper into the business and go into wedding planning. I planned my own Mexico wedding and it was very successful plus I acted as wedding planner for a friend's wedding [directed rehearsal, dressed the hall, and detailed the entire day even down to grabbing a pail when the ceiling of the hall started to leak all over the head table, sending my husband out to find new fish for centerpieces after I found that the heating didn't work in the hall and half the fish had died, and burning the back of my leg putting out a fire that a guest had lite]. Unfortunately, my friend and I had a falling out since then, so I cannot use her as a reference. Anyway, I feel extremely confident in my abilities, I am going to university right now [I'm in my last year of a double degree so there isn't a way for me to go and take a wedding planner course or something]. Ok so does anyone know where i can get a recognized degree online. I am in Canada, but looking to get a degree in Project Management or Business Management as i have over 10 years experience in this field but as i am looking at relocating to the US it needs to be recognized for immigrations H1B visa.Hello Jane not sure you understand!!! I am a professional and have things prepared always, and i am fully aware of how the H1b works along with sponsorship. BUT to gain a H1B an employer in the states would not consider me till I have a degree or BA WHICH is also what Immigration would want you to have or it's Equivalent to be considered Professional or Exceptional in your field of work. I was not a member of a church when I attended college. We were excluded for non attendance. I frankly got sick of the things done to me, said about me, and the conniving and scheming and plotting. I was not sleeping around, literally or figuratively with anyone. I had all the sex anyone needed. I loved my husband. I got tired of their coming into work and harassing me and slandering me. I think they wanted us to leave, so I did. I ran into a couple of old friends, I thought we had become friends, from the church I went to before,, females. I did not know we were enemies. One I referred to a counselling center because I was worried about her companions. . I didn't mean any harm. I had no ulterior motive, I knew of some others who had gone there. I thought they might refer her to Christian or decent singles groups. I was worried about someone i saw there. The other I don't know. I thought we were at least getting along. I enrolled in college . These people went in there and one framed me for cheating. Sounds like I think I have no responsibility for my actions, not so. She offered to let me copy or use her husband's work. I think this man was framed and railroaded for arson which he did not commit. There are way too many people who would have had motive to arson his home. Myhuisband, son, nor I, nor daughter had motive whatsoever. She had absolutely nothing Iwanted or envied, nor my husband. She went on and got her Master's in Elementary Education as did her younger sister. I got trashed so badly I could not work in anything. My kids did not get to go to college. I ended up out in the street in shelters, lost my home. All. They had to do their undoing though. Not to be out done. They had to show how magnanamous they were, so forgiving and longsuffering. I just can't function without them. About this guy's homework. I didn';t want to see it. I had an A when I started in there, I was so thrilled. I just gave it up. I assume I deserve the D. I had enough electives, that I could not use that. This was not right. There was nothing right abouit it. I have been harassed based on lies. Some of it I recognize the lie, lies on me. Some is to keep me from getting outside being healthy. I have been cheated out of six years of my life now, my career. the friend in college who offered me her husband's home work, which I did not go get or want, called and said she had a dilemma. She had no dilem na. I said. I did not ask for his work, I did not get it. I did not see it. I changed my major. I had not done anything illegal or immoral. We moved to get away from someone who slandered and defamed me to the max. Insulted me. He almost got knocked in the head with a limb, he made me so mad. I am not dangerous but to come to my home and insult my integrity in my yard. ? Next question. Again, I am not a member of a church, not that one. Not then, not now. I was not going to go to the local college here, was going online. When would it be a local church groups business regarding my grades from long ago? I earned my degrees fairly. Everything I did was open, above board. I did not sneak. I did not cheat. No class told me to just get through something. Only otj here did that occur. Sometimes you must pick your battles. Sometimes you have to give it up, or settle for less. That is my choice. I get punished for knowing people in churches, I mean mere acquaintances. Everyone I know gets turned into some sort of scheming plot. Believe me, they are not friends. I do not have to relive college. I do not have to relive hs I do not have to re do my life to suit these pseudo Christians. Why did I not get a nursing job here ? Very simple. My working in nursing only put money into my pocket. Gave me a life, a chance to live. I had malpractice insurance. Suing it put money into a lot of people's pockets. Suing where I came from. This is thievery and fraud. No one had cause to sue me for anything. I am not gay. I will not allow anyone to call me gay for any amount of money I have never been attracted to a female in my life. They have voiced extreme hatred for me and laundered a lot of benefits to the community here. I lost my career again. I have about one hundred dollars over 100 per cent poverty. Picked up my job aps. I did not even get fair consideration. I wanted to work in a big hospital. I do not want to be segregated in any way. I will not work in a minority group, not if I could. I did nothing to be sued by minorities. The ones spoken of, I have cause to sue, big time. It is over. They won. They cheated, framed, lied stole. I voiced the interest ind ating and marrying a man, not anyone I knew at the time, no specific purpose. They got me terminated from my job. Ripped off everything I had, followed me to every job, ruined everything. Lied on me. This is all being done by a religious group, every bit of it. It is hatred and prejudice. I cannot fI did not come here to marry. I came primarily, first, above all to get a job in nursing. Secondly to be near my daughter. No one has a right to tell me I must marry, or I must stay single. My hormones are normal for a female my age. I am not abnormal in any way except my weight. It is degradation, attempts to destroy myself image, try to make me depressed. That is criminal. moreResolved Question: Questions concerning mark. cosmetics?

I am aware of the $20 start up fee, and the orders that are placed will obviously be charged on my card as well, but what else is there? How much is shipping for the products and do I have to pay for that as well? To my understanding, there isn't a monthly amount of orders I have to place, correct? A lot of things I am reading online is that people order a large amount of product expecting it to sell and then are stuck with the extra and can not return it. Would it be reasonable to only order product when there is a request from a customer? I understand I'll have to buy product for myself and for sampling purposes so they can see it on someone, but other than that I don't see why I should have to order large sums to sell with out people ordering it in the first place. I've found my background in my major Communications has been really helpful but I'm so scared about the real world! My focus is in Electronic Media, and I can't begin to describe how much I've learned about social media, advertising, persuasion techniques, business, etc. I feel like it's shaping me into a better writer, speaker + my networking has increased so much. My minor is Marketing and I'm trying to get a PR certificate. My dream is to get a job, and attend Animation school at the same time. On the side I work with music and have a dance team. I feel like my friends wanting to be doctors/engineers/teachers, etc are more practical...and I'm foolish. I've come so far, won awards, and have my own website paid for by the school just to write for the campus and entertain readers.
