The Seven Sins on the Big Screen

Producers Moritz Borman and Peter Graves have licensed film rights to the novel "The Seven Sins: The Tyrant Ascending" from Las Vegas entrepreneur Fabrizio Boccardi's King Midas World Entertainment, says The Hollywood Reporter. Jon Land's action thriller, published last month by Tom Doherty Associates' Forge imprint, centers on a Las Vegas casino owner, Michael "The Tyrant" Tiranno, the adopted son of an Italian crime lord who is called upon to defend the gambling mecca from terrorist attacks. Land has said that the character is loosely inspired by Boccardi's life story and is designed as the first of a series of James Bond-like adventure tales. Borman would produce, with Graves serving as executive producer.

Nuke Parts Plant Paves the Road to Congress

He had a degree in mechanical engineering and worked as a support engineer to the manufacturing floor. He mentions that the site is now contaminated. “I have a real concern regarding what happens to the site when they do vacate it," Turk says, referring to the plan – now on hold for financial reasons – to move the manufacturing plant from its Bannister and 95th Street location to a new site off Missouri Highway 150 and Botts Road. “There's something called berylliosis – from exposure to beryllium – and people have talked to me who worked there for many years who have a real concern about that. I wasn't on the manufacturing floor so much myself, but at least that's an area where I have some experience."

Turk sounded pleased at the idea that the nuclear weapons facility was, at least in this one instance, a proving ground for future politicians. more

Captain Gopi: Determine To Fly Higher And Higher

“There is no recipe for success; an entrepreneur has to pursue his or her passion with single minded determination and be aware that we cannot let the fear of stumbling make us give up moving ahead," he affirms. He accepts that an entrepreneur has to grapple with many difficulties and setbacks and the only way forward is by keeping a resolute focus on the objective. “It is important to consistently remind oneself why one has ventured out in the first place. Most importantly, learn to assimilate failure. No failure or disappointment is a closed chapter. It is an invaluable opportunity to rectify errors and move forward," he advocates.

“The dream to empower every Indian to fly may not be entirely accomplished in my life time but it does get realised everyday as more and more Indians take to the skies," he proudly accepts. more

Business Degree Career Questions asked

Open Question: I don't care about money, but I don't wanna be a bum?

My parents keep telling me to pursue a degree in business, medicine, or law. They tell me to go where the money is, but I don't really care about money. All I want is to be free and help others achieve freedom. I don't want to be a bum, like my mother said I'd become if I didn't listen. I still want to go to college. I know a lot of my current English/Art teachers were, once in their life-time, called "bums" and some were even homeless. But I'm smarter than that, I want to have a career, but I don't want to devote my entire life to business. What should I do? Can't there be a world where everyone worked together and money meant as much as dirty, green paper? Thank you, any help is greatly appreciated. more

Open Question: Job HELP! I'm going to be a law school student in a couple of years and today I'm going out to some firms.?

Basically I'm looking for a job that somebody that still doesn't have a college degree can do. I'll be a receptionist, secretary, mailgirl, whatever. I'll intern, job shadow or even volunteer. I just want to get my feet wet now. It will not only help me in my acceptance into a law school, but also my career as well. Currently, I work at a restaurant, and I just want to get out of that business. So I looked up the names of a few of the biggest law firms in my area and today I want to personally out there and try to get a job. Ideally it would be a paying one, but I guess if worst comes to worst, it doesn't have to be. My Question though is: What do I do when I first enter the building/room? Who do I talk to? Who do I ask to see? Is there a specific section that deals with this stuff? Should I insist on talking to whoever does the hiring, so I can give him/her my resume personally? That's another question, should I bring a cover letter? Or would I technically be the cover letter? Also, how and to whom, should I explain my situation; or do I need to at all? If I do, should I do it like I just did now to you, or elsewise?????? Thanks for any insight ahead of time.I already have a resume, and according to my advisor, it's a good one for my stage in life. more

Resolved Question: Career as a writer. Is it possible?

I have nowhere to look for proper advice. So here I am. I am a young woman graduating from a science degree. I now realize that i hate science (at least in the career/business sense). I have always loved to write, and am fairly good at it. I love to write fiction, or to just rant about things that piss me off. I am a good way into a novel now, but far from finished. The word career usually makes me shiver... But when it is put along with a word like, "artist" I get a warm and comfortable feeling. I think my destiny (or whatever you want to call it) is to be a fiction writer. But here are my problems: -I feel inadequate as a writer due to lack of experience, self doubt, and general lack of drive due to every day stress. I'm not one of those writers that feeds off depression. -Getting a job on the side will make me feel like a piece of #@#% most of the time and I will never get any writing done. (you know... just to get started I will probably need a source of income) -My parents will be very disappointed in my career choice, especially if it is not lucrative (I love them and I would hate to stress them out.) -I get addicted to video games very easily. (If i am idle for too long) -I am demotivated by competition... and the writing world, so far (to me) seems pretty dang competitive. I also hate vampire books so I'm screwed there... nobody will want to read what i write. So, what do I do? Waste my life at some boring 9-5 job(and also hate my life)? Or risk it all and become a writer. I have 6 months before i have to start paying off some nasty debt. Are there jobs where I can at least give my creativity a boost while i try to get this writing thing going? Should I even try to write? I know I'm not some bull@#$%er... but I'm sure I'm not the greatest writer ever I also don't expect to be rich, or care if i am rich... not trying to be JKR here... Just want to have enough money to live. Does any one think I could have a happy life without mooching off my parents and playing World of Warcraft 24/7 to take my mind off the stress i would cause them? Curse my nerdiness! and sorry this was so long. more

Open Question: Question for feminists on male dominated v female dominated careers/college degrees?

This is going to be long but impotant (to me anyway) Why is it that in female dominated areas of college or business such as: teaching, nursing, childcare the reason for the gap in representation of males is considered to be men not applying for jobs or college courses in those field. I do to a large degree agree with this. BUt now we reverse the genders to politics, Sci, Tech and suddenly it all changes. Why is this? Say if a female highschool grad applies for a position in college for Science, engineering, political sci etc.. isn't it illegal for the college to reject her on basis of sex? If her merits usually gradewise are high enough she will get in. Likewise if she then graduated from said college course and applies for a job in that particular carrer that is also illegal for a business to reject her if her merits are highest. Legally only a person with highest merits gets a job. But do you not agree it is the same because women simply are not applying for college course like politics, women are going into liberal arts areas. So does the view of men choosing not to go into female dominated areas not applying to male dominated areas like women are just not applying for male dom positions? It seems like trying to make men look like we're holding women donw but this is highly illegal. If you read this article in swedish colleges you'll read they are thinking of abolitiing gender quotas because women simply are not applying for couses in male dominated fields so only male students are benefiting from the quotas and are sliding into female dominated fields like psychology, teaching etc...: http://www.thelocal.se/24330/20100112/ THis shows women are not applying for male dominated areas. How is this men's fault. Yet When men dont apply for female areas that is our decision not to? thanks more

Open Question: Regarding the CFA exam, I dont think I would have a chance of passing it. is it worth it for me to attempt it?

? i was considering attempting to study for it, but think it would probably be a waste of time and that i am not really equipped to pass an exam of such difficulty. Here is my background: I have a liberal arts undergrad and an MBA in management, both from middle of the road state colleges. i have been working in the securities industry for 10 years now, working in a trading and customer service capacity. I earn a good living, about 180k. I have a bunch of NASD licenses like the series 7,24,63,55,4,53. I passed the series 7 with an 85. Here's where I think I have no business attempting the exam: I admit that I didn't spend a ton of time studying for my MBA classes, but I squeaked through and earned the degree, getting a C in managerial economics, taking managerial accounting pass/fail and passing it but not with ease, and taking Financial Management twice, failing it the first time and getting a B the second time around. I feel like I need to do something else to continue to advance my career, but I think based on what I just explained, the CFA exam would be the wrong fit. Do you agree? If so, what other certifications could I go for that might be a better fit to advance my career in the financial services industry? more

Resolved Question: Should I get a Masters in Accounting?

Hey everyone, I'm an upcoming senior at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV. I am a Business Administartion major with an minor in marketing. During my junior year I took Principles of Accounting 201, 202, and income tax and have become interested in pursuing an career in accounting. I would like to work for a Big 4 firm one day. Since i'm a upcoming senior, I will not have time to get a accounting degree also. I feel its pointless to stay back an extra yr at Shepherd and earn a bachelors in accounting because Shepherd is not wellknown or ranked, and Big 4 firms have never came to Shepherd. Should I go get an Masters in Public accounting from a different university?. The schools that i'm interested in attending for my masters are: WVU (very cheap instate tuttion, plus WVU claims the Big 4 accounting firms and many regional accounting firms actively recruit at WVU), UNC (ranked #9 in the country) Vanderbilt (seems to have an strong reputation, plus majority of it's students get internships that pay 10k or more with the school's partner compnaies). The only problem with UNC and Vanderbilt is that tution is expensive (41k and 57k respectively for an 1 yr program). I have manged to graduate with very little debt, and I would like to keep it that way. But i'm willing to consider other schools if my chances of getting an job at a Big 4 firm are greater. btw i'm graduating from Shepherd with an 3.6-3.7 cum laude honors, dean list, plus many extracirculars, so hopefully I can get into good masters programs. Thanks for all your help more

Resolved Question: What career or advanced degree should I aim for with this?

Languages Spoken: English (Native Language), Spanish, Japanese, Chinese Bachelors: Communication Arts & Spanish I've also been considering an MBA in International Business or a PhD in International Studies or an MA in International Relations... and I am sure there are other international degrees I haven't even researched yet... The problem is all of those sound immensely fun and would let me achieve my dream of working with peoples of other cultures... So... I can't pick. I don't mind if I live in the US or elsewhere or travel all the time. What would you advise? Also, if I were to add a 5th language, would you recommend Russian, Arabic, or French? Open Question: college/university choice help?!?!?

im a junior in high school and i want to major in either business marketing or business finance in college. im looking foward to going to rutgers brunswick because its conviently located right near me and i know several students attending this school. first of all, should i try getting into the business school, or school of arts/sciences as a freshman? my highschool gpa is about 3.4 or 3.5 and the problem im worried about is that i never had any honors classes in my high school career yet, though im thinking bout takin a couple next year. ive taken taken algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, english 1, english 2, english 3, world cultures, us history 1/law, us history 2/economics, integrated science, biology, chemistry, graphic arts, and several culinary courses in highschool so far. i am planning to take business organization/management, entrepreneurship, personal finance, marketing, trigonometry/pre-calc, english 4, and physics next year as a senior. another problem i am facing is i failed algebra 2 last marking period (2) because my teacher is the biggest bitch ther is. first marking period i got about and 81 or 82 in that class. i usually get high C's to low A's in my classes. if i try then id actually be really smart. i tend to take major exams like finals and midterms and hspa's and SAT's seriously. i just took the SAT's last saturday on March 13th 2009 and ill get my scores back on April 1st. i plan to take the SAT again in june. i also plan on applying to NJIT. i want to get my masters in business and rutgers is a better school than NJIT plus rutgers has a 5 year degree program if i get into the business school. more

Voting Question: For all you active or retired navy soldiers: is the navy right for me?

Okay, so Im interested in joining the US Navy and I was wondering if some of the answers to the questions I asked my recruiter were accurately rendered. So to all you people who are currently enlisted in the navy or have been I'd appreciate what your experience has shown you to be true concerning the matters I'm about to cover. Based on my personal characteristics and goals, do you believe joining the navy would be in my best interest? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. So to start, here is a little background on me. I am 23 years old trying to get my bachelors degree in business administration, more specifically a focus in entreprenuership or small business management. I have about 2.5 years left before I graduate and I wish to complete my bachelors degree debt free, taking 15 credit hours per semester untill I finish and then hopeful move on to an MBA program. Now, from what my recruiter tells me, the most amount of time I would expect to be out to sea is about 6 months - during my entire 4 year naval career - depending on what job I qualify for. What concerns me is whether or not I will have the time to complete a degree in the time I am with the navy. Since, from what I understand, when on shore I will be working 8 hour days, when off shore, fitting in school once traveling can be difficult to do. How accurate is my understanding of the dailey time committment? In otherwords will I be out to sea on only one rotation, or can the navy basically ship me out whenever they want and where ever they want, for how ever long they want without a moments notice? I personally dont want to take all of my classes online and wish to take my core classes at an accredited land based university that I would be required to physically attend... Plus I dont want to exit the navy after my four year term with no college degree because I was out to sea most of the time... My recruiter explained it to me as I would be be working mostly 9am-5pm, monday-friday leaving my evenings open for school and weekends... Also would I only be expected to actively serve 4 years, of an 8 year contract. How true is what he explained to me? As I mentioned earlier, finishing my degree is of most importance to me. I like the fact that I wouldn't have to worry about the financial aspects of school while in the navy, but I want to be sure I wont have a hard time of prioritizing my degree because of factors outside my own control, like being shipped off to bumb fucking egypt for 12 months, or having to work crazy hours and so forth. Keep in mind if I stayed in the civilian sector taking 15 credit hours per semester I could have a degree in 2.5 years, but most likely with debt :(. So what should I do? Join or not? Will I be able to complete a degree and be fully fuctional in my roll with the navy? Thanks! more

I spend about 2 days working a week usually weekends and look 20-35 hours a week for full time work and get around 15 applications done each week for anywhere in the UK. out of 150 applications in the last 2.5 months only had 2 interviews and alot of very strange job work offers (jobs that sounded very dodgy with no interview or contract or any face to face contact). The job centre is like here work for FREE giving up your part time paid job to get MORE experience, i think three years exp is good enough to be considered a full time job in the industry I want (events/ logistics/ sport and leisure) or they say go back to university or take another course! What the hell is going on? and remember in a 4 months time the 2010 graduate are out another 400 thousand competitors for jobs! Time are not tough! they are F**king crazy with no end in sight! and all the high ranking business contacts I know don't have a clue how to save their businesses or know what the solution is! and the gov is talking like the recession is yesterday!...economy may be growing but only due to the massive cut backs and job losses! Im 23 years old and had no choice but to move back in with his parents, just to survive! Im looking for a career is that so much to ask? Iv considered other careers but they are full already eg police fightfights NHS, RAF (my last resort) anyone else feel pretty angry about this whole situation as we didnt cause it! but we have to suffer for someone else mistakes!? more

Voting Question: What does a financial services representative job entail?

I have an interview this friday at metlife for the position of financial services representative. Im not sure what this job entails and I would like alittle more info before the interview. Something about this job seems alittle odd, it doesnt seem or feel like a good career choice. Im in my last semester before graduaitng with a 4-yr degree in business mgt. and metlife wont hire me until I have my degree so thats the only thing that sounds really legit about this job. Can somebody please tell me exactly what this job entails. Im under the impression that it will be a commission only job, and I really dont want to make a career out of that. Yes I was told theres a weekly base salary, but from research ive done, I dont think its a permanent salary, and I think metlife neglected to tell me that. more

Resolved Question: My father said he is disappointed in me?

Right now I am on a break from school I am going to be 19 this year and I don't know what I want to study in Higher Education. I wanted to do business because I thought that would be fine to study its a neutral subject. I think I just went with it because I have no clue what I want to do. My father keeps suggesting Law which I do not want to do. He is very adamant that law is the way to go. So because I am on this break and decided to get a job whilst I figure out what I want to do with my life he told me he is disappointed in me. It really hurts that he said that. I want to have a career that I am happy with. I was thinking about studying Film, Fashion or Music but I know he will look down on these since they don't have the "prestige" associated with Law or Medicine which he could brag to his friend that his daughter has a degree in. My mum just says its my life and she will support me anyway I go. The thing is I don't understand why he has to make a big deal out of it. My parents split up when I was young and he was a weekend dad who I don't have much contact with since I stopped staying there on the weekends. so thats my story and any advice would be nicehe also said that I have until next saturday to decide what I want to do and he wants to talk with me on Saturday. more

Voting Question: pursuing a degree in international business.......?

I have been thinking about going back to school a lot lately. I am very interested in world issues and traveling. Also, I can speak, English, Mandarin, and Spanish. So, I have thought about getting a degree in international business. Do you think this will open a lot of doors for me on the job market? How much money will I expect to make and also what careers can I be hired for? Also, is it practical to expect a job that requires a lot of traveling? Finally, does anyone know the best schools in Latin America to get a degree in this (preferably fairly inexpensive)? more

Voting Question: Help?! I'm new with all this... Air Force Wife?!?

Hi, so my name is Sarah and I'm French. I met my wonderful boyfriend on a plane last summer while I was going on vacation in the States and he was going back home on leave. He's an American, currently stationed in Europe. Anyway, we've been together since the life-changing plane ride and it's been the most fantastic time of my life. He always hints at the fact that he wants to get down on his knee and propose to me! Luckily, I'm a good student and I got scolarship to finish my Bachelors degree in the States. I'm moving there in the fall. My boyfriend just re-took the ASVAP and is now waiting for the new list of jobs to come in his base so he can crosstrain. I'm nervous that he won't be stationed in the same state as me. But anyway, love's stronger! However, I was wondering what it was like to be engaged/married to an Air Force man? If I'm on a student visa in the States, can we still get married whenever we want or it'd be considered fraud visa? Also, I want a career as a profesor or in international business but I'm slowly realizing this will be hard to balance since we'll be fully depending on his job. That's a bummer. :-( Have any of you ladies been able to have both the successful career and the marriage?! What are the pros and cons of being married to your Air Force Man?! I love mine to death and I don't care about the flaws his job may have, I just want to be fully informed about what's gonna happened to me next since I'm relatively new to this whole Air Force world. (I had never heard about it until I sat next to him on that plane!) more

Hi, thanks for taking the time to answer! I have a degree in business pursued and completed via distance plus online method in India but my core passion lies in biology, especially molecular biology and genetics about which i have scoured and devoured knowledge from textbooks and non fiction, only totally without any lab experience. I want to know if i can fulfill my dream of achieving a masters and later a Phd in molecular biology or genetics in an American university despite the academic background i explained before? How can i convince university admissions committees with my kind of background? Is there a way in which i can gain lab experience with a personal arrangement in an Indian college? Would taking a GRE subject test in biology be of any help? PLUS I am 29 yrs old now, with a career in freelance journalism / writing for 5 years. Best Regards more

Voting Question: Will the NHS pay my tuition fees as this is my second degree?

I already have a Non NHS Funded and unrelated BA Hons Degree in Business Studies (Third Class) (Which I funded myself and with LEA Loans) I work for a private number plate company but am now having a career change into Adult Nursing. I know that the NHS pay all tuition fees for Nursing degrees in the UK and that you are entialed to a non means tested bursary of about £6500. I would like to know if this would still apply to me as already hold a degree even (however this will be my first NHS type degree) some sites suggest that i will not be entitaled to anything and will have to pay the fees myself. more

Voting Question: Any advice on entering the military as a career?

I am seeking the advice, both positive and negative, from anyone who has experience in the military on what their thoughts are for someone to join. My circumstances are that I will be graduating college in may with a double degree in business management and finance so I am very much qualified and have many options for the civilian world but the thought of going into the military, the army more specifically, and taking the route of infantry and possibly pursuing ranger school really appeals to me. I am actually a collegiate basketball player so I am very fit, I am use to taking orders and being yelled at, I know that it wont compare to what the military will do to me but I will have some advantage from that. So any insights or advice anyone would like to share with me I would be very appreciative. Thanks more

Resolved Question: Question about my interest in joining militarty?

So, I am a 25 year old married woman with a bachelors degree in business management. I have been working as an administrative assistant in the corporate world for 5 years and I all of a sudden hate it! I want to do something great with my career that will have a life long impact. So, I started to think about the military or serving as a police officer or firefighter. I spoke with a friend who is a cop and he says my past drug use will disqualify me from joining the force. I am thinking the same will occur for firefighting. So, that leaves me to military. My main concern is that I am too old, a female, married, etc. Can someone tell me a little more about my options. I don't necessarily want to be shipped off to fight in the war but I am interested in other things like fixing helecopters or doing administrative work. Is the reserves an option? I just want some input. Thanks!I have not used drugs in almost a year and that was just marijuana. I was never really bad into drugs...just occassional, leisure use. more

Resolved Question: what is the best way to handles this situation on my resume?

I live in an area that is extremely economically depressed. About 10 years ago, I left my traditional career track to start a business. The business was not related to my career track. The business worked fairly well and is now mature enough for me to turn it over to my spouse to run (I'm not interested in running it). I would now like to return to my own career. I have worked contract on and off (as the business permitted) over the last 10 years. My assignments have ranged from very short term to almost 2 years in length. The type of jobs are also all over the map, from simple retail to complex engineering positions. I have an advanced degree, but as I said, I have done rather menial work. I enjoy working, and do not feel too good for any job. I also understand that I may have to take a lesser job than what I previously had (due to economy and absence from the work force). In other words, I've rather fallen between the cracks. Does anyone have any professional advice on how to jump start my career? more

Voting Question: Help from career experts..Would a career change to programming or supply chain management a good move now?

I'm 32 have a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering which was a nightmare for me. I do take pride having an Engineering degree and I did benefit from studying engineering in many aspects, but civil was/is the last thing I ever wanted to do.it's a long story why did I take (forced into) that stream and why didn't I change earlier... we're today now.I 've a degree that I know for sure I cannot make use of it. in one semester i had an introductory course in programming (C++) and found myself very interested. also after graduation I took an introductory course in Visual Basic and again found myself very interested. I know they were only an introduction but I enjoyed solving assignments and how I'd try to write the code using the knowledge that I learned and try to reach a solution to the problem given the limited features I learned about the language. Perhaps because of my eternal love to mathematics, in a way, I felt programming is very related to mathematics. trying to think logically but at the same time creatively. Now looking at the economy and having many computer science graduates not finding jobs or being laid off, will I be competent enough with only a college diploma as I can't afford right now to pursue a 4 yr bachelor degree. (money, age , family).. Another thing I was thinking of is going into business maybe it has more career opportunities. but having an engineering background, I may not have what it takes to get into business studies as, from my point of view, it needs a different personality someone talkative, good in arguments, has good writing and memorizing capabilities while I can only think numbers or in a mathematical logic. I know accounting does have numbers. but I was thinking of merging business and programming when I was first introduced to ERP and supply chain management in a lecture I attended long time ago that was held by an Oracle professional (forgot to mention I took oracle developer course too) . he claimed that this path is promising now more than programming ( even more than the oracle developer path he was teaching us!!) I'm really confused...don't know what to do or what to choose. Forget about my Eng. degree. I'm not going down that path. I ended up accepting a call centre job where they only need someone with high school qualifications!!! Any experienced help and advice will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read my long question and for any sincere advice. more

Resolved Question: What's it like to live in Los Angeles, California?

I've lived in Dallas, Texas my whole life and I'm thinking about trying out a new area to live in. I graduated with a business degree a year ago and I'm thinking maybe starting a career out in Los Angeles. What's it like to live in California? What are the people like? Resolved Question: Should I go to university?

I'm in a tough situation at the moment. I'm currently a 17 yr old Year 12 student in Australia. I have the option of going to university to further my study, but I cannot decide if its worth the effort. I don't really like school, I am very interested in learning, gaining knowledge & experiencing new things but I generally do not like the school environment & I am unsure on whether uni will be the same or different (possible worse). I'm interested in writing, business, health, art as well as other things but don't exactly know what career path I want to follow in the future. I'm certainly capable of going to university, but I don't know if I will just be wasting my time where I could have spent 4 years of my life gaining experience in other areas rather than getting a degree I may or may not use (I'm aware other things happen while at uni but this is the main reason people go there right?) So I don't know if I should do my TEE exams & go to uni or not do them & apply my time to something I may enjoy more, I've heard most uni's have mature aged entry so maybe I'll look into that later on. I would just like some feedback from someone who may know more about this than me. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Which State in the USA has the best opportunities in Higher Education?

I am looking for info on States financial aid, careers which your State may offer to help pay the cost of your education if you use your decree within that State. (I was told you can get a teaching degree for next to nothing in Kentucky if you stay and work there). Colleges in your area that have a good reputation for cost and opportunity after being educated. School/work programs through States or companies... And anything else you may be able to think of. I am interested in relocating and going back to school within the next couple years. Interests include teaching, music, small business (if that even exists in the next couple of years) and psychology. Who knows, maybe I could become an independent teacher of Musical Therapy mixing them all together:-) more
