MdeC To Set Up Marketing Offices In Europe And US

KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 (Bernama) -- Multimedia Development Corporation (MdeC) is planning to open its new marketing offices in Europe and the U.S. in the near future, chief executive officer, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said. "We are now spreading our wings far and wide, beginning with marketing offices in Dalian, China, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and not too long ago, Bangalore in India," he said in his speech at the World Congress on Information Technology 2008 Gala Dinner here Tuesday. Badlisham said these regional bases will offer gateways not only for local players but also for MSC Malaysia-status multinationals to make inroads into regional and international markets for their products and services. To date, MSC Malaysia has 12 cybercities and cybercentres spread across the length and breadth of the nation, he said. more

Inter-Arab trade surges to $64b

Oman's Commerce and Industry Minister Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, who presided over the conference, extended his country's full support for GAFTZ. The Sultanate, he stressed, had no reservations on implementing all the articles of the GAFTZ agreement.

"We welcome the establishment of joint Arab ventures especially in the field of agricultural manufacturing and are rather ready to increase our investments in Arab countries if they provide the necessary facilities and resources," he said, adding:

"The Sultanate has been one of the pioneering countries that supported the integration efforts in accordance with the provisions of the agreement. The volume of inter-Arab trade has witnessed a remarkable growth since the implementation of the GAFTZ agreement." . more

Keeping it in the family

McArthur Fine Furniture in Calgary is a family-run business, and its owners plan on keeping it that way for as long they can.

Ted and Theresa Pound's family has run the small business since the 1960s, buying it from the previous owners who started it up in 1938.

Unlike many small business owners, the Pounds have been succession planning with their children for several years.

"The first important thing we did is we joined CAFE (Canadian Association of Family Enterprise)," says Ted Pound, who, with his wife, took full ownership of the business, buying out other family members in 2005. "So my children have been going to meetings for some time now and getting the viewpoint from outside the family, which is very important."

Three of the Pounds' four children are working in the family business. more

ST not interested in Infineon's wireless chip business - Bozotti
