US dollar catches second breath
In Russia, the US crisis was materialized in the devaluation of dollar savings and more expensive loans. The head of the US Treasury stated officially that the lowest point has been passed and there will be fewer problems in the future. Does it mean that the US dollar will retrieve its international value?
. moreNigeria: Even Communications Among Citizens is Disrupted
While this is true, Nigerians who spend their money on recharge cards are not waiting for any explanation.
But also more curiously the National Assembly which is in a better position to explain the situation to Nigerians is more emotive about it; if their position has not been mere exhibition, it is totally that of ignorance. There is a power probe at the National Assembly. But it is in the Public Hearing in the lower and the upper houses on the quality of GSM services that some of the most inflammatory statements by the lawmakers have been made, giving the impression to some discerning hearts that they really don't know how deep-seated the power problem is. For instance, when the mobile operators, complained about the absence of power for their operations, some lawmakers retorted that they knew the power situation in the country before bidding to provide service here. moreILA 2008: A model business

Teacher among dead in crash
"She was very excited about the helicopter ride," Principal Emilio Urioste said as he stood in front of candles, cards and pictures of Hurd on the school’s front steps Tuesday. "She had never ridden in one before."Her son, Max, 14, and her boyfriend were on the ground when the crash occurred and rushed to help, Urioste said.Hurd, who came to the school five years ago to restart the culinary program, had spent the previous night chaperoning the prom with best friend and fellow teacher Dena Williams. Williams, who will be teaching Hurd’s classes for the next two weeks, gathered students Tuesday morning to share memories."If she knew she was going to go the next morning, she still would have come to the prom," Williams said. "She would have wanted to surround herself with the people she loved, and that was her students."Students wore purple and green, Hurd’s favorite colors, in her honor."She was always so happy and vibrant, she wouldn’t have wanted the students to wear black," Williams said. more
Good choices make life better
Graduation speakers, books for the graduate, and greeting cards seem to focus on those qualities that are most often associated with happiness and success. I think it is equally enlightening to review those qualities that make one miserable:
Disrespect the law.
"Laws are made to be broken" is a sophomoric challenge that may sound daring but can also be deadly. The no-one-can-tell-me-what-to-do attitude is characteristic of a 2-year old and is not an appropriate adult life-style choice.
Law breakers drink and drive, don't wear seat belts, engage in financial scams, cheat and spend more time looking for loopholes in the law than it would take to simply be compliant. Lawbreakers often harm others and ultimately harm themselves.
Expect others to share their good fortune with you. more

Is this legal or do I have to wait until I'm 18, also how exactly will the 'deal' take place - do I need to have a signed contract with my client (employer), stating the % of salary i'll be taking as comission, and then what about the employee's? Ok, I have been dating my boyfriend for over a year and he lives with his family (mom, dad, his sister, and her kid). His sister is 25 and has a four, almost five, year old kid. Over the time I have been with my boyfriend, I noticed that his sister always makes either her mom or my boyfriend watch her kid. Sometimes it's acceptable because she is studying for some tests to take to become an accountant or something. While I find see that as normal, most of the time it's because she just doesn't want to look after him herself. My boyfriend always has to pick him up from his daycare because his mom says she can't make it in time (have to be picked up by 6:30pm), yet she's always home at 6pm. She has time to go get him herself. If she wants to go out with her friends, she tells my boyfriend to watch him and he does, whether we were in a movie or shopping or whatever. He always does it for her. She stays out late and expects my boyfriend or his mom to watch him while she's out getting drunk, staying overnight at her friends, and not coming home until late afternoon the next day (that happens on the weekends). She always leaves to go with her friends and tell her mom to watch him and if she's not home, my boyfriend is forced to watch him, even if we've already made plans. When my boyfriend wants to go hang out with his friends, he wants me to watch his nephew. I do not like kids, but I do it anyway so he can go out. Today, I've just about had it. His sister is out again, my boyfriend's mom and dad are out, and my boyfriend wanted to go hang out with his friends and go somewhere, so naturally, I'm stuck here watching his nephew. Not to mention, his nephew is a brat. They give him whatever he wants, lets him do whatever he wants, caters to his every command (yes, command), and he is not a nice kid. He yells, screams, cries, everything. Like I said, I do not like kids. I am sick of my boyfriend always watching his nephew while his mother is too lazy to do it herself, like she should be doing. It is her child, not her mom's or my boyfriend's. I don't know how to bring this up to my boyfriend because it's also none of my business how she runs her life, but it's interfering with my life and I hate it. How do I bring this up to my boyfriend? I have to watch his nephew until 7pm and I can't stand this kid and how he acts. Yes, sometimes his sister needs a break, but every damn day is just dumping your kid onto someone else. Am I wrong for thinking this? I have been keeping this in for a while and I needed to get it out. Please, ANY tips on how to bring this up are needed and greatly appreciated! Also, are there any tips on how I can deal with his nephew better? I have this germ thing and I don't like when kids touch me and his nephew always touches me and it makes me feel gross and get irritated. He throws everything around the house, makes the loudest noises, even just talking for him is yelling. Whenever he throws things around or talks/yells, my ears hurt and I get annoyed. How can I deal with this better? Also, please don't comment about how I'm a bad person because of this, it's just who I am. I'm looking for advice and help.Oh and I don't want to make him mad by telling him what I think about his sister. She makes $50,000/ year. I think she should get out on her own and learn to live her life and have responsibilities. She makes enough money. My mom makes $38,000/ year and me and her do fine (plus I have a part-time job). Is this wrong for me to be thinking as well? moreResolved Question: Hispanic vs. Latino - which word is appropriate for South/Central American business?

Benihana of Tokyo is a restaurant own by Aoki, he is a Japanese, but he builds his restaurant in New YOrk coz he discovered that Americans love exotic food. He starts as an ordinary person. The walls, ceiling, beams, artifacts and decorative lights of a Benihana are all from Japan. The building materials are gathered from old houses there, carefully disassembled, and shipped in peices to the U.S. where they are resembles by one of his father's two crew of Japanese carpenter. Some restaurant like myself have more fun than others, says AOKI, youthful pres. ofBenihana of Tokyo. Between 1964, when he opened his first location and 1972 he had gone more deficit net worth to being pres. of a chain of 15 restaurants that grossed over $12 million per yr. Benihana was named after a small red flower that grew near the front door of the unit restaurant. Rocky's first unit on the West Side was such a success that it paid 6 months, the 2nd unit 3 blocks away on the East Side simply to cater to the overflow of the benihana West, the 3rd unit is in Chicago had proved to be the largest money maker coz it grossed approximately @1.3 million/year, the 4th unit was in San Francisco and the 5th was a joint venture in Las Vegas in 1969. By 1972, Benihana was basically in steak house wit a difference Aoki borrowed his method of cooking from his father. One of the things that Aoki worried in his analysis was that, number one problems the availability and cost of labor by eliminating the need for conventional kitchen with hibachi table arrangement and the other thing s he discovered is that food storage and wastage contribute significantly the cuerband of the typical restaurant. I finally invest on historical authenticity. When Aoki has unit of Benihana the chefs and the staffs are considered as Key to its success coz they are highly trained. The philosophy of the restaurant roat business is simply to make people happy. Runs carpenters, consultants, and editor for constitution/ volume feeding magazine, sumed up his perception for a two main problems. What is Benihana really selling? The problem of perceptions was shown through different exhibits. And there are 9 exhibits these are the operating statistics for a typical service restaurant, floor plan, organization chart, the costumers thank, summary of the Benihama's marketing philosophy, benihana's of Tokyo advertisement. Two philosophies of the steak, the mission of Aoki. moreResolved Question: partyyy advicee.kinda lol(:?

Okay; I'm not the worlds most intelligent student; but I am still pretty smart and I've decided to look at different carrer paths; but ones that can bind together as a whole aswell. Anyway; this year I am taking the CACHE level 2 childcare and education course at college. After this I intend to study these subjects in this order: * September 2010 - July 2012 -- BTEC National certificate/diploma in business studies, (level 3 - already done level 2) * September 2012 - July 2014 -- CACHE Level 3 childcare and education * September 2014 - July 2015 -- ABC Level 1 introduction to the catering industry * September 2015 - July 2016 -- Professional chef award at level 1 * September 2016 - July 2017 -- Professional chef award at level 2 Further career paths from these can be: * Chef/food caterer * ITT/NVQ in teaching, (study towards a teaching qualification) * Nursery nurse * Business manager, (in food, retail or childcare) * Retail assistant Do you think it's good to have all these career paths to choose from and is the next 8 years at college worth it, just to get these different career paths?I don't want to be an accountant or registered nurse - besides I would rather do these college courses which are free, than get myself into debt by going to university. You need to understand that after taking a level 3 childcare course I can be a registered nursery nurse or nursery manager; after taking business at level 3, (the A level equivalent), I can run my own business and after taking a level 2 professional chef course I can be a professional chef. I'm not looking to earn millions. I am looking to further my career path; this way there are different job oppurtunities out there for me. Besides if I did choose to go to university, I'd want to get the ITT/NVQ teaching qualification and by taking a chef course and business studies, I can teach either cookery or business studies in a secondary school - I could even become a childcare lecturer at a school or college. moreResolved Question: How much does small business liability insurance cost?

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601039&sid=aP4uPeND1UH4 Sept. 11 (Bloomberg) -- The financial results that companies give investors are supposed to paint a picture of how things are. Banks and their regulators want to turn that notion on its head so they can spin a smooth tale of how they would like things to be. Sadly, some accounting rule makers may be ready to appease banks and the politicians who back them. If that happens, financial results will change from a vital tool for investors to a vehicle catering to managers, regulators and employees. This would undermine the idea that the needs of investors drive markets, replacing it with a more corporatist outlook favored by companies and politicians in continental Europe and Japan. In other words, the goal of providing unbiased, impartial information about a company’s worth would be trumped by a company’s business model and the broader needs of the financial system. This battle over financial reporting is playing out in the debate over proposed accounting rules for how banks value things such as loans and bonds. The International Accounting Standards Board is hoping to have new rules in place by year-end. The Financial Accounting Standards Board in the U.S. is moving at a slower pace, though the boards hope to eventually agree to similar rules. Both groups have come under fire from banks and regulators in the past month, although the IASB has drawn the most heat. That’s happened even though the IASB has already bent too far to please the industry. Listen to Government In late August, French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde wrote to the European Commission decrying some of the proposed rules while saying the independent IASB must be made “more responsive” to government wishes. Banks and their regulators meanwhile have claimed that proposals from both boards rely too much on mark-to-market accounting. The American Bankers Association yesterday wrote to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke asking that they bring up the issue at the meeting later this month of the G-20 industrialized nations. The attacks go deeper, though, seeking to change the underpinnings of financial reporting and who it should serve. The accounting-rule changes should gauge the worth of a company’s holdings based on its business model, according to a letter from the ABA last month. This would allow banks to overlook short-term changes in the value of a security because they decide to call themselves a long-term holder. No. 1 Audience The rules should also “improve the decision usefulness and relevance of financial reporting for stakeholders, including prudential regulators,” according to a document issued last month by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, a group whose members are central banks. In other words, investors should no longer think that they are the main audience for financial statements. The practical result of such approaches would be to allow banks to report smoother results that supposedly reflect their long-term prospects. For banks, smoother profits would presumably lead to higher share prices. For regulators, less volatile results would supposedly make it easier to maintain financial stability. The problem, as investors know, is that life, and markets, aren’t smooth. Conditions change, as do financial values. Because of this, investors need financial statements that provide information about the current state of a company’s business and worth. The past two years, replete with unexpected failures of supposedly solid firms like Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., have shown how vital that is. Creditors Count Plus, investors aren’t just shareholders. They include creditors such as bondholders, who need to know what a company is worth today in case it goes under. Banks argue that their intent should matter. If a bank plans to hold, rather than trade, a security, it shouldn’t have to worry about daily fluctuations in its value, they say. Both the IASB and FASB have given ground to this business- model view, although the FASB’s changes aren’t as onerous for investors. The IASB, on the other hand, wants to give banks more chances to show holdings at their historical cost. In doing so, it also plans, unlike the FASB, to allow banks to completely ignore changes in the market value of some securities. This may result in banks reporting puffed-up equity, giving investors a false sense of comfort. Two banks, for example, may hold the same AAA-rated security, which has fallen, say, $5 from a face value of $100. One might report a value of $95, the other, $100. This would make it difficult for investors to make apples-to-apples comparisons among companies. Predicting Trouble It may also leave investors in the second bank smarting if it turns out markets correctly predicted looming trouble for the bond’s value. Oddly enough, the IASB has still come under fiClick on the link to see the rest. moreVoting Question: I need a slogan for my event planning business?

A friend in I are looking at starting a small business on the side and then working our way up. We both enjoy planning events, big or small. We both also love to cook. We were thinking about starting something like an event planning business. Something where we line everything up for someone (from booking venues, getting and mailing invitations, catering small parties, and booking caterers for big parties ect...) we figured that if it was local then we could provide food, if not then we can line up someone to do it. We would fit everything into people's budgets, they would just pay us to do all the work for them, and pay the people and places we book for them. We figured that the internet has come such a long way that we could even help people that live far away by communicating through e-mail and phone, and we would do all the research and contacting people for them. I already have some vendors that I communicate with personally and through e-mail that would help out. Do you think this would be something that people would be interested in? How much do you feel would be a fair price to charge? How would you go about advertising something like this? moreResolved Question: What do Filipino expats need mostly?

By RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR, Associated Press Writer Ricardo Alonso-zaldivar, Associated Press Writer – Sat Aug 22, 9:45 am ET WASHINGTON – One of the most widely accepted arguments against a government medical plan for the middle class is that it would quash competition — just what private insurers seem to be doing themselves in many parts of the U.S. Several studies show that in lots of places, one or two companies dominate the market. Critics say monopolistic conditions drive up premiums paid by employers and individuals. For Democrats, the answer is a public plan that would compete with private insurers. Republicans see that as a government power grab. President Barack Obama looks to be trapped in the middle of an argument that could sink his effort to overhaul the health care system. Even lawmakers opposed to a government plan have problems with the growing clout of the big private companies. "There is a serious problem with the lack of competition among insurers," said Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine, one of the highest-cost states. "The impact on the consumer is significant." Wellpoint Inc. accounted for 71 percent of the Maine market, while runner-up Aetna had a 12 percent share, according to a 2008 report by the American Medical Association. Proponents of a government plan say it could restore a competitive balance and lead to lower costs. For one thing, it wouldn't have to turn a profit. A study by the Urban Institute public policy center estimated that a public plan could save taxpayers from $224 billion to $400 billion over 10 years by lowering the cost of proposed subsidies for the uninsured, while preserving private coverage for most people. "Right now, there's no incentive for insurers or big hospital groups to negotiate with each other, because they can pass higher payments on through premiums," said economist Linda Blumberg, co-author of the report. "A public plan would have the leverage to set lower payment rates and get providers to participate at those rates." "The private plans would come back to the providers and say, 'If you don't negotiate with me, you're going to be left with only the public plan.'" Blumberg continued. "Suddenly, you have a very strong economic incentive for them to negotiate." Insurers contend their industry is extremely competitive, and a public plan is unnecessary. About 1,300 carriers operate across the country, although many only have a small share of the market in their states. "You can have a very competitive market and still have companies with a high market share," said Alissa Fox, a top Washington lobbyist for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. Fox points to the federal employee health program, which also covers members of Congress. It offers a total of more than 260 options and 10 nationwide plans. Despite all the choices, about 60 percent of federal workers pick a Blue Cross plan. "Insurers need to be of a significant size to best serve their customers and make sure that people get the best value," Fox said. Nonetheless, lawmakers are concerned. Big insurers are getting bigger. Small businesses in particular have fewer and fewer options for getting coverage. Congressional investigators this year looked at insurers catering to small employers around the country. The Government Accountability Office found that the median _or midpoint — market share of largest carrier increased to 47 percent in 2008 from 33 percent in 2002. There's widespread recognition among lawmakers that a health care overhaul should foster more competition among insurers. The debate is over how far to go. The basic framework lawmakers are looking at would encourage competition, even without a government plan. It calls for setting up a big insurance purchasing pool called an exchange. It would be open, at least initially, to individuals and small businesses. The government would offer subsidies to make premiums more affordable. Consumers would find it much easier to shop for a plan through the exchange. For one thing, they would be able to readily compare benefits and premiums in different plans. Also, participating insurers would have to take all applicants and not charge higher premiums to those in poor health. Offering the option of a public plan would supercharge the competition, supporters say. Blumberg envisions a plan that pays medical providers more than Medicare, but less than private insurance. Her study estimated it could grow to 47 million members, leaving 161 million with private insurance. Even so, that would make the new public plan one of the largest insurers in the country, rivaling Medicare, Medicaid and big private companies such as Wellpoint and UnitedHealthcare. It's a scenario that gives pause even to traditional adversaries of the insurance companies. "The fear and concern is that the public plan could become the market-dominant plan," said Dr. James Rohack, president of the America moreResolved Question: Accounting Income Statement!!! are you SMART!!!?

Goals/Action plan: In developing the action plan for next year, the general manager first considered the potential for expansion into the catering business. After meeting with a focus group of interested customers and discussing operations with other local catering businesses a first year sales potential of $20,000 seemed reasonable. The General Manager estimated that food costs could be held to 40% of sales and payroll plus benefit costs to 30% of sales. IN addition, a delivery van would need to be rented for $2,400 per year plus insurance and license of $1,000 annually. The general manager then met with the other managers to formulate goals for the next year. Consensus was reached on the following goals: 1- Increase regular food sales 7% 2- Increase beverage sales 5% 3- Reduce food costs to 43% of food sales. 4- Reduce beverage costs to 34% of beverages sales. 5- keep payroll costs at 28% of food plus beverage sales. 6- keep benefit costs at 4% of food plus beverages sales 7- keep at the same DOLLAR amount: - Other income - Administrative and general - Rent - Property taxes - Property insurance - Depreciation 8- Increase all remaining costs 5%. - Questions!!! 1) Develop a schedule to determine whether or not it will be profitable to enter the catering business. 2) Develop a plan or budget for next year using the reporting format number 1 in the bottom of the questions bellow, and the goals stated ABOVE.
