Stimulated Reading

I opened a small business money market account with the prize money, which will also be the depository for other funds raised. And he gave me the paperwork to fill out for a great big (to me) small business loan application. I'm hoping to get that in by mid-June, at the same time as I'm looking for retail spaces.

In the meantime, I've made some other great business friends: the Retail Committee of the fabulous Fort Greene Association. It turns out that the beautiful, developing neighborhood of Fort Greene wants a bookstore almost as bad as I want to create one, so I'll be working with them on finding a space, building community support, and doing some more fundraising. To that end, Stockton has created a rather clever fundraising campaign. Stimulated Reading is hoping to find "investors" to: [...] use your [IRS] stimulus package to become an investor in an independent bookstore -- specifically, the one I'm creating in Brooklyn. more

Man arrested after assault, car theft and South Everett chase

The suspect left the center and went to a parking lot across the street and asked a woman to help jump-start his car. The man then pushed the woman out of the way, grabbed her keys and drove off in her BMW, Hover said.

Deputies chased the man to a dead-end street, where he jumped out of the car and ran, Hover said. Deputies set up a containment scene and brought in tracking dogs.

Around 9:30 a.m., a woman in the 9600 block of Lowell-Larimer Road, close to the containment scene, called 911 to report a strange man on her property. The carjacking and assault suspect was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on a variety of charges, Hover said.

Vodafone raises client numbers by 9% to 2.7m in Q1

Chief executive Muriel Anton said Vodafone's growth in the last quarter proves that innovative solutions, such as mobile advertising and converged offer for companies Vodafone OneNet, can attract new clients even on a highly satiated market.

Vodafone's rival Telefonica O2 raised user numbers by 6.6 percent to 5.16 million. T-Mobile, the leader on the Czech market, had 5.273 million clients at end-March, an increase of 3.2 percent year-on-year.

There are more than 13 million active mobile phones in the Czech Republic, with around 126 phone numbers per 100 people.

Tariff clients made up 52 percent of Vodafone's clients in the past quarter. The average revenue per user (ARPU) amounted to Kc581 a month. The value reached Kc484 at T-Mobile and Kc509 at O2. more

Business big shot: Julian Heslop

He was one of a group of business heavyweights who met HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) officials in September to discuss the Government's proposed changes to the taxation of British-based companies' foreign profits. Minutes of that meeting reveal that Mr Heslop advised a cautious approach, saying that HMRC needed to work with business at board level to ensure that the outcome was not rushed.

Since then the Government's proposed changes to taxation on foreign profits have prompted Shire, Britain's third-largest drugs company, to announce plans to move its tax domicile to Ireland. United Business Media is following suit and others are considering a similar move. Big business will be reassured, therefore, that the cautious Mr Heslop has been appointed as a member of the Treasury's new multinational forum on tax. more

Business Plans For Career Goal Setting Questions asked

Resolved Question: Moving to Vancouver BC from Ontario?

Hello, I am a 24 year old man who currently lives in Ontario, Canada. I have cerebral palsy and I am on disability. I live in a small, uninspired, boring, jobless and depressing town which I have lived in for about 5 years. I want to move!!! BADLY!!!!!!!! I am preparing to take my GED exams in a couple months here though. When I have my GED papers; I want to move to British Columbia maybe in the early second half of 2010. I have heard good things about BC regarding the climate, people, fun activity, and job opportunities and I would like to go there and make a clean sweep of my life. My goals are to go to school there and build a life for myself. Get into a career in medicine. While I am there; I want to makes new friends and settle down. Perhaps even open a small business. The town I currently live in is not populated by friendly, warm, and engaging people. Quite the opposite! When I moved here from another part of Ontario; I quickly noticed that people here are rather unfriendly, tight lipped, narrow minded and awkwardly anti-social. I visited here in the early 90’s and between then and now, it is just the same. Except for the fact that there are faster computers and a new stadium. I meant, the people are the same. There is very little to do here for entertainment too. Sorry for being negative, but that is pretty much how it is. I have heard and read very similar views on this town over the years. In the mean time; I need some advice on long distance moving. I really don’t know how to move long distances all by myself! The plan is to move myself with the Greyhound bus. Perhaps have a family member hold onto some of my things I can't really take right away. Non essential stuff like: books, stereo, game console, spare computer, ETC. And return later on the bus to pick it up bit by bit or have them ship it to me. As a student; I can use my ID and travel to BC from here one way with every bit of $100. That is fine by me. No big deal. Problem is: 1. How do I search for and secure an apartment in BC all the way from here!? 2. Where (which town) do I find a one bedroom apartment for around $550 per month? If “push comes to shove”; I would be perfectly willing to share a large two bedroom apartment with a roommate taking up the second room to help pay the bills. 3. I currently have on my hands; an apartment which is fully furnished! HERE in Ontario! Sadly I know I can only take a small portion of my belongings which I spent years accumulating. But I have this apartment to deal with; I can’t take it all with me. I am planning my future, I have to bite the bullet and say goodbye to a large chunk of my furnature. I can’t just leave my bed, table couch and everything else for my landlord to clean up/dispose of. That is not the act of a good tenant! I’m not a deadbeat tenant. 4. I have a 5 1/2 year old pet cat, which I love dearly. Greyhound won't let animals on board. And leaving her behind is not an option, not to mention cruel and unusual to the little beastie. What shall I do? I am on disability at the moment so I am limited money wise. 5. When I get there; I will quickly go to a local thrift store and purchase the following things for my apartment. Each are common and mostly inexpensive items: -Bed -Kitchen table with chairs -Dresser -Couch & arm chair -Coffee table -Desk & chair -Lamps -bookcase -Dishes, bowls, glasses, and mugs -Pots and pans -Forks and knives -Toaster oven -Teapot and kettle -phone -Small TV set and table -shower curtain Thanks for any help you could give me in planning my move to British Columbia! I appreciate all the advice I can get. more

Resolved Question: When to come up with a business name and other small business tips, please?

My ultimate goal is to open a successful jewelry/jewelry repair shop. I don't have money or the 'know how' to get started but I've educated myself quite a bit. I have a plan to reach my ending goal. It will take time but I'm positive I can do it. 1) First I want to get started finding merchandise at thrift stores or flea markets and selling them online. This will teach me how to keep track of income, build my skill in financing, and I can start a website. With the extra money I gain will start step two, jewelry making. 2) Making beaded jewelry or wire jewelry I can build my creativity for different styles. This will also help me determine if my ending goal is only a phase or hobby to look forward to rather than an actual goal that will end up as my career. After some time doing this I would have also build up an inventory for my next step, setting up shop. 3) Now I can really get to practice! I plan on setting up a stand or small table at the local flea market. If I decide to reach this step it will be the most helpful to my ending goal. I will learn the basics of running an actual business, keeping up with inventory, calculating profit from income vs expenses and loss, and organization. This extra money will help me buy the tools I'll need for making and buying fine jewelry such as gold, silver, and gemstones. 4) Actually going through the process of opening and running an actual business. With the previous steps I would be saving as much money as I can to buy or start renting a shop for my store. My question is when would be a good time to start advertising the name of my shop? I already have a name in mind, but it still needs work. And does anybody out there have any positive criticism for my plan so I can do this as flawless as possible? (There will be many flaws along the way, I know) There's also a step missing somewhere. I need practice repairing jewelry before I actually start the repair. Does anybody have any tips to help me with this? I'm already collecting broken gold and such from family and friends so I can practice repairs once I get the tools, is there anything else I could do to practice with? Last question is what's the best way to look for classes to take in this particular field of career? I'm in Houston, Texas and would like to find hands on training for jewelry making/repairs. more

Voting Question: Does my letter of motivation looks strong enough or does it need any changes?

I apply for grad school and have to wrire motivation letter. Can anyone look through it and see if there any grammar mistakes or if the structure is unclear? Director of the Program xx KTH December 18, 2009 Dear Sir or Madam: I have been at my last year of school at American University in Bulgaria, with a major of Business Administration. During my studies majority of the courses were focused on the main challenges and concerns related to the successful global functioning of organizations, critical skills needed to properly start and manage ventures and analytical tools and models used in problem solving. My undergraduate education at American University in Bulgaria has not only given me a certain set of valuable skills but has also helped me to understand my academic strengths and weaknesses and my fields of interest. While taking a course of Marketing I received a deep insight into creating, developing and assessing projects. Besides studying the theory, I had to create a product which would be innovative and successful on global market, evaluating all the advantages of disadvantages in terms of cultural aspects, geographical location, customer demand in particular region and many other crucial factors which help to determine the successful realization of the product. Operational Supply Management was the other useful courses where I acquired the necessary skills to start and manage projects following the key management concept of planning, organizing , leading and controlling. My study abroad experience at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky has given me additional knowledge in my field and has made my communication skills more effective. Taking such courses as Management Science and Management helped me to understand how important it is for the company to be more innovative and entrepreneurial. I acquired necessary skills of how these invention can properly function, how they can be managed and how they can be realized within specific organization. In addition to that, frequent work in groups for creating a project have built good team work understanding and involvement I believe that possession of such critical skills an effective communication, creativity and collaboration can qualify me as a candidate to your program. I am someone who is able to learn quickly and adapt to new environments and perform under pressure. I love to be challenged, to explore new ideas, I am always eager to learn and engage in several activities, which helps me to manage my time more efficiently and be more productive. Furthermore, studying in American University in Bulgaria gave me sufficient amount of quantitative knowledge and assisted in developing my analytical thinking skills needed to properly analyze and assess innovative projects. After completing the Master`s Programme my goal is to start my career in one of the innovative companies, where I will be able to utilize my practical and theoretical knowledge to attain the prosperity of organization. With education in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management, I will gain a relevant knowledge of innovation and entrepreneurship combined with strong real world experience that will help me to build my further development as innovation leader and provide with a basis for the start-up of my own business venture . Thank you most sincerely for your time and consideration. I look forward to your positive response. Respectfully yours, xx more

Resolved Question: Can you read my speech for 8th grade honors English?

Here is my speech for tomorrow. I appreciate constructive criticism. Thanks! Imagine that you’re in 6th grade. You’re friends with one of the richest, most popular girls in school and at this point in your life, you’re feeling pretty good about yourself. On one particular day, you had an orthodontist appointment and on your way to school your mom bought you a big red drink. You walk into lunch with it and go to sit with your popular friend. But then you trip and accidentally spill your drink onto none other than the skirt of rich and popular Lauren Moffat. Lauren then makes it her goal to make Steph the laughing stock of the town. Five years later and your whole small town in Indiana has been accusing anybody who did anything clumsy of “pulling a Steph Landry” or “being a Steph.” And of course you are the famous (or infamous) Stephanie Landry. The book I read is How To Be popular by Meg Cabot. The protagonist Stephanie Landry has spent the last 5 years being miserable all because her used-to-be-friend Lauren Moffat has turned her into the laughing stock of the entire town. As with any book, she had some friends to always be there for her. There’s Jason Hollenbach who was friends with Steph ever since they could remember. His grandmother, much to the dismay of Stephanie’s mother, is engaged to Steph’s Grandpa. Mrs. Landry doesn’t like this because she thinks that Jason’s grandma only likes her father because of the money he got from selling some land to a Super- Sav Mart which may put the Landry’s small book store out of business. Steph’s other friend, Becca is a quiet girl who moved to town in the 6th grade. She lives on a farm and before Steph and Jason, her only friends were cows and chickens. The three of them consider themselves as unpopular social rejects who sit on the wall with the other burnouts on Saturday nights as they watch the popular people drive up and down Main Street. Jason hates them. Becca is afraid of them. And Steph would give anything to be friends with them- especially Mark Finley, senior class president, school quarterback, and more importantly, the boyfriend of Lauren Moffat. But then Steph finds The Book. She found it in her future grandmother’s attic in a box with other forgotten books. The Book is titled “How To Be Popular”. The summer before her junior year, Steph practically memorizes this book and treats it like her own bible. She buys the clothes, gets a hair cut, and begrudgingly plans to wake up much earlier to get ready for the day. Finally the first day of school comes, and while the familiarity of the noise of squealing girls and slamming lockers engulfs her, she feels different. She was finally being noticed. Her ensemble included the same sheer thigh- high socks that Lauren was wearing. She felt confident for once in her life. She even smiled at Mark Finley. Her career as being popular sky rocketed while she set up a talent auction to raise money for her school. She gets it all. The friends, the looks, and most importantly, the friendship of Mark Finley. The main conflict is that Steph is trying so hard to be popular, and to keep it that way. I believe that the protagonist is not her enemy, Lauren, but rather social standards and pressure from herself to be popular. She struggles against herself to overcome being the “Steph Landry” everyone in town mocks. Meg Cabot wrote this book in first person, with a reason. Steph’s opinions make the reader biased to her. Steph’s journey to popularity is really important to her and pretty much clouds her judgement. If you got Jason’s opinion in 3rd person, then you would see that he truly believes that her behavior is ridiculous. Not that he didn’t make it known throughout the story. But I really liked that she wrote this in first person because it made you feel connected to Stephanie. Sometimes I wanted to laugh with her or cry. Meg Cabot did a great job with this book because you can make connections- it was a mirror for me because the characters are very real people who easily could fit in here at our school. If you are ever thinking about this book, I would say go for it because like me, it will probably be a mirror and it has a really neat concept and kind of makes you think about what you would do in Stephanie’s situation with The Book. more

Resolved Question: In my marriage, should I be CEO or chief of security?

I have known my wife for 4 years and we have been married for 1 year. I am a goal-oriented person why she focuses on maintaining a simple daily balance of things that are important to her. In my career and in my hobby, I am motivated by goals of where I want to be after certain periods of time. Making daily progress towards those goals makes me happy. But in my marriage, a bigger part of my life than my career or my hobby, we have no real goals, other than avoiding marital conflict. Yes, we see eye to eye on plans for our financial future, but that is not what I mean. We are happy, and spend time with each other doing casual, intimate, and romantic activities. I have asked in this forum before for advice about having a common project where we pursue a similar goal, such as working together to learn a language then traveling to that country, or learning to dance then joining a competition. My wife gives me the benefit of the doubt and concedes that this could be a good idea, but reading between the lines I know she thinks I am making things unnecessarily complicated and would rather maintain the status quo, which for now, is quite good. Within this forum, some people have criticized me saying that I am treating marriage as a business. Others suggest that a project that has strengthened many a marriage is raising children into good people. Given that the method to success of every other important aspect of one's life is to set goals and execute a strategy for meeting them (CEO), why shouldn't marriage be the same way? (Rhetorical: In this sense, is treating marriage like a business that bad? The metaphor lacks romance, but since both businesses and marriages fail, it makes sense to work to develop the former just as you logically would work to develop the latter.) Or, is the secret to maintaining a successful marriage just happily doing your duties, while standing guard to reactively attack any problems as they arise (chief of security)? For heaven's sake, are children really the only way to unite husband and wife around a common goal, or are there other projects that are as enjoyable and challenging (with less at stake)? Help me, because I am at the brink of giving up of proactively working to develop my marriage in a positive direction and just kind of, you know, mellowing out and just doing the everyday things good husbands do and reactively dealing with problems as they occur. more

Resolved Question: I am setting goals on a college I would like to go to. How do you figure out which college is right for you?

I'm a sophmore in highschool and I'm planning for my future/ setting goals for myself. I don't know at ALL at want I want to be. I for sure don't want to pursue anything mathematical related and no chemistry but otherwise there is no resrications on my interests. I think I want to be a writer of some sort, do something creative (besides just an artist), or something of that sort. But that's besides the point. Putting what interests me aside my parents have NO money saved for college so I'm trying really hard to get a scholarship. I get mostly A's (hoping this year to change that to all A's) and take all the honors classes I can without taking extra classes on the side. I play a couple sports, am involved with some clubs, and I'm working on starting some volunteer work. Am I on the right road to getting a scholarship do you think? But back to the subject of money, I'm thinking in most cases I'll have to limit myself sadly to a college within the state. Don't get me wrong I would love to study overseas or hell, anywhere besides the place I've been growing up my whole life but like I said not having an abundance of money can be a pain. So, I do have high expectations for myself (although I realize I might be disapointed) but I within Illinois the colleges I would want to go to include: University of Chicago, University of Illinois, and Northwestern which are all high ranking schools. (Ahhh!) Although I kind of ruled of University of Illinois (of course, the cheapest and least selective out of the bunch) because I literally live 15 to 20 minutes away from the campus, and well, I just need more space. But even limiting down to a couple schools how do I know I'll find my passion here. How do I know that I'll like this school and how do I know that I'll even have a CHANCE to getting accepted. All my life my parents, both one of the first in their families to finish college, have basically raised me to think that college isn't an option, it's just the next step..But my mom is a piano teacher and my dad, who majored in History (they went to the U of I btw) is now business man. So how does college even aid your career, especially in my (and my dad's case so I've been told) case if you don't even know what you would want to be! Ahhh. Basically, this whole college thing, is just freaking me out!Haha it did! You gave me a lot of good information! And it helped so much that your just one year older than me. I'm still scared on figuring out what path I'd want to take career wise but I always have time for that. You see my dad always tells me that he's 40, and he still has no idea was his ideal job would be and I just don't want to be like him! more

Resolved Question: I am considering joining the marines...?

I am in the midst of researching all I can find out about joining, and the opportunities available to me. Especially as a woman. I need to decide what option would be best for me. I want to be prepared and knowledgeable about my position wants and needs so I do not allow the recruiter to bully me into signing up to a sudden death occupation. I need to decipher between joining the reserves, enlist as active duty, or look into becoming an officer. I am a college student, I will be graduating in November with an associates in business. My main focus at this point is more education: with that being said, I want to be able to stay in school. (I have about 5-8 years of different types of schooling lined up that I want to accomplish). So I also would like to know my funding education options. My dream career goals are in the field of photography/ culinary arts. (hence: combat photographer... or what ever). Though I will not object to what ever jobs may be available to me. Another question being what would the best option military career wise be for me when I enlist. I hear that alot of combat jobs are not available to women, is this true? If so that is fine I really dont want to be deployed anyway. what are my chances of being deployed depending on how I enlist? I am not saying I want to take the easy route out, but I eventually when I get out of the military I plan to pursue and entrapanuer career in my dream field as well be an almost "stay at home mom", but want a since of knowing what benefit I have acheived for myself and my children. I want a sense of accomplishmnet and strength. I need further dicipline, to stand up to my full potential (which I know the marines will surely provide). I have dreams of my own, but also have a longing to become a US Marine. I dont want to jump into something so serious, stupidly. I just need some information on opportunitues, options, and experiences as well as more resources to find more information. And information provided will be taken in greatfully. P.S. I don't want anyone refering me to the navy or air force. I am focused on being a marine. I have had enough people tell me what I should do. "take the easy way out" ...blah blah blah, my dad didn't raise to take the easy route. I love a challenge and I have my mind set percisely on the marines. I know they say marines are the the ones who join with the mind frame ready to go to war and kill, but I know theres more, and I am focusing on those other ooptions within the marine core!Let me make this alittle clearer... I never said I am against deploying, (obviously y would I even look at the military?).. I work for the army I know alittle more about the military than you think. Also I know what they say about the marines. I know that COMBAT Photography would be a deployment. I know u don't get to necesarily pick what you want to do. obviously the lady marine that answered my question is active duty, and probably didn't know jack about the marines when she joined. obviously if I am asking the question I do not know too much about the marines... THATS WHY I AM ASKING WHAT OPPORTUNITUES ARE OUT THERE! I never planned to take pictures with butterflies jack ass. I have plenty of marine friends, I just am trying to get perspective of which program would be most profitable for me! because I know that there are different routes you can take in, and I know that recruiters will tell you anything to make you think that you dont have options, but I personally know that u do more

Resolved Question: Freaking out about my future in terms of a career?

I am 19 years old and a first year university student. For as long as I know I've been very organized and always had my plans and goals set up very well. However, recently I've been doing a bit more research on career options and since I've always wanted to go into business I've been trying to scope out some front desk summer jobs. The more I look into the business world, the more I freak out. I still feel so young when I think about this. I can't imagine having a full time job and wearing office clothes in 4 years time. I know this is the path I want to take, but it just scares me when I think about having to lose all the freedom I have now. Has anyone else gone through this? Will it ever go away? How do I overcome it? I'm really scared out of my mind. Thanks for all the help/support. more

Resolved Question: Please grade me on my english research paper so far, thank you!!?

I am writing a research paper on the career I hope to have when I am older. This is what I have so far, the minimum requirements for this paper is to have 3 pages worth (2 1/2 right now) and to correctly cite everything MLA style. thank you, please just give me a grade on this paper so far and leave a few comments (this is for honors english at a freshman grade, the grading scale is 93-100 is an A, so please grade me according to that scale thank you!!!!! here it is!!!- “Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country,” as the late 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, once said, is a great way to describe my duty for my country. By the time that I have live on this earth for 30 years, at least 9 of them in the United States, I hope to be on my way to the U.S. Senate in Washington D.C. to represent my native state. I found many resources that will guide me on my long, exasperating journey to my own seat in the grand Congress. Although a tough, painstaking, and demanding career, my hopes are set, and my goal is to become a qualified senator for our great nation, the United States of America. Although it is literally unnecessary to have any education whatsoever to become any sort of politician in the United States of America, it’s never a bad thing to learn about political science, economics, or history for my career choice. In my research I have found that the most important courses to major to help me become a senator, are also my favorite. Never has a class ever moved me as much as history, nor has a class ever interested me as much as economics. To become a politician of any sort it is always recommended to take these courses, as well as government and business classes as a high school senior (Cruising online). In my case I plan on taking my high school degree and taking it a few steps further. I plan to get at least a Bachelor’s degree, and then go for a Master’s degree after that in the field of economics. In these times especially, economics is definitely a “hot topic”, and will almost reassure me a safe position during my future campaigns. When I have to choose what colleges to apply to, I will definitely be putting my hopes on Northwestern University up in Evanston, not only do they have a great economics department (Northwestern online), but it is also found in the great state I plan to represent, and as I’m always analyzing information, living your life in the area you will be representing is never a bad idea. In addition to having a good education, to be a politician it’s great to have “people skills” and other certain qualities (Cruising online). Many presidents in the past, and our next president, have definitely had great “people skills”. According to Dr. Schoenberg, the “Presidential Expert”, John F. Kennedy, used his charismatic smile, and friendly tones to help him get elected (Schoenberg online). You may not know me personally, but I can almost guarantee you that in a few years you will know very much about me, and my opinions when you’re flipping through channels and stumble upon me, on C-Span. All jokes aside, I am known by my friends to be a very smart and intellectual person, as well as a kind human being with the hope of helping out in a distraught time. In addition to having “people skills”, it is great to use history and past experience to help you make important choices that could impact the future(Cruising online). For example, back in 1941, America was shocked by the attacks on Pearl Harbor, and President Roosevelt had a big decision to make, and although he knew of the consequences, he believed that war was imminent. I am writing a research paper on the career I hope to have when I am older. This is what I have so far, the minimum requirements for this paper is to have 3 pages worth and to correctly cite everything MLA style. thank you, please just give me a grade on this paper so far and leave a few comments (this is for honors english at a freshman grade, the grading scale is 93-100 is an A, so please grade me according to that scale thank you!!!!! here it is!!!- Here it is completed ( i couldnt find any site that was able to handle that amount of wording lol so heres the link)- http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=216&topic=46598575 Please read it and grade me on Yahoo! Voting Question: What should I do for a career?(details inside)?

Lately I have been faced with a difficult decision. I have recently graduated college with a degree in Human Development and a plan to teach. since I did not major in Educ., there is a lot I have to do first. My dad owns a large coal business with his borther and my cousin is soon to be taking over my uncles half. My dad wants me to take over his half. It is a good business, and I would be set financially for life, but it would be hard work and my ultimate goal as a woman is to raise a family. I'm just so torn! My heart is not set on teaching, and the pay is not great. I am bored by the idea of rocks and bulldozers and surface mines, but I would be set for life. any opinions?Oh, and he always tells me that my future husband could possibly take over... but who knows when that will happen LOL more

Resolved Question: Have boyfriend but often attracted to others. What's going on?

I've been with my boyfriend for over two years. We met during my senior year of high school and have been exclusive since I graduated. He is kind and is working towards a good career goal but is very slow in progress. His parents love me and think we'll get married. There are things I'm unhappy with that I tell him about, hoping that he'll change it, but he doesn't (like I'm okay with him still living at home but prefer him not to initiate sex when his parents are home and within 20 feet). He's lacking in chivalry, something I highly value. I live by plans and agendas and he lives by tomorrow. I've had two boyfriends before who were older than me yet more immature than me and had smaller ambitions that I have. I've started two businesses, am attending school full-time, will graduate within the four standard years, will attend business school and finish my academic career within 4 years, I pay for school and everything else on my own and I work very hard to get where I am and where I hope to be within the next few years. He on the other hand, because of his career goal, is set for school for about eight more years. Rather than sharing a dream of having a family around that time with a man who can support a family, because of his family's income, I know that I will be the one supporting him and waiting for him. I may sound selfish or hasty but I have my goals and ambitions too and prefer not to have to wait around when time is precious. I've almost broken up with him once because of my networking and social events, I'd meet other men who appealed more to me. While less or equally attractive, other men were passionate about culinary arts, fine arts, had a career set and business ventures in mind. Another one is finishing up school and has plans laid out. They were more readily available to attend events with me and could be the center of attention at parties while my boyfriend is known among my friends and colleagues as the quiet "man-of-few-words" type. Having a man who works free time around my schedule is important to me because of my own very busy schedule. My boyfriend however, is always in class or working during the few free hours I have. What's a girl to do when we have two years under us, a beginning that all of our close friends witnessed, and less qualities and values in common than I'd like? more

Resolved Question: Where is our Entrepreneurial Spirit? Bored with your 9 to 5 job and endless pressure by your boss?

In this society, to be an entrepreneur would probably indicate that you are adventurous enough to want to take charge of your life and experience an unpredictable career. Some of your colleagues, family and friends will support your decision because you could be doing something that they themselves have ever thought of but never dare to try. While others will be cynical about it. Either they find no goal in life that's worth pursuing (reached a stagnant stage in life) or they have gotten their fingers burnt before so as to advise their peeps never to follow their footsteps. Being entrepreneur would mean you are actually stepping out of your comfort zone to deal with the unpredictable. Though you may face higher possibilities of uncertainties, challenges and woes, at the end of the day you might actually find that its all worth it. Its a magical feeling. But what exactly are some woes faced by most entrepreneurs today? 1. Fear of failing Nothing in this world comes free and if they really do, there must be a good reason behind it. Failing is not as hard as picking oneself up again after a failure. Like the law of attraction, the more you are afraid of it, the closer Fear can sense you can creep to you, its amazingly scary. 2. Why Low and Slow Sales? In the business world, everyone is either selling products or services to earn a living. To start a business, entrepreneurs have to understand that it takes time for you to break even follow by profit or loss. Set both long and short term goals and make sure you reflect on them on fixed period of time. I know of some companies which hold weekly internal meetings without fail to revise and reflect on their progress of work. To just sit there and naively believe that sales will improve upon business start-up will definitely become your No. 1 reason to fail. Most important: Believe strongly in what you sell. 3. No Proper work flow When people feed-backed that laziness (aka lack of motivation) is the reason behind their failed venture, I would see it as lack of a systematic organised work flow. It makes an entrepreneur lose track of what he is supposed to do. It would be good to start off with a checklist to ensure both the major and minor roles have been worked out. Doing up a timetable or organiser to plan activities ahead would be another suggestion. People often get lost when comes to prioritising (Everything seems important?) and putting ideas into actions. One will suddenly feel that he has much to do. (So many things, so little time) If you have assistance, learn the beauty of delegation. When you delegate, not only your workload becomes lighter, you are actually training your staff's capability and AQ at the same time. (Just don't forget to reward accordingly) 4. The ''Power'' of being Stubborn Admit it when it's your fault that caused something unpleasant to happen. Go with the flow and your intuition when it comes to certain issues and decision making, not your ego and pride. Being Stubborn during tough times and see your team through can actually be Determination in disguise. However being stubborn in important decision making would probably lead to doom faster. A stubborn person's worst enemy is Angel Flexible & Humble. Of course, there are many more uncountable woes faced by an entrepreneur, some major ones, some minor ones. Most important at the end of day, if you want to venture, be daring and go ahead. Learn and do it at the same time. If you want to plan and research first, by all means. But do not let yourself sink into it without an action plan. No experience will mean no growth in your business. Like Nike's slogan: Just Do it! (You'll know it!) Feel free to share if you felt the above before or more.  more

Resolved Question: PLEASE! Can you correct the grammar of my cover letter? NATIVE SPEAKERS OF ENGLISH, YOU ARE MY ONLY HOPE!?

Hello I have considered it as a matter of necessity to write this cover letter My present seeking of a new job is a consequence of the decision to change career, which I have made 2 years ago. My first education is juridical. Then I have entered in economical university. During my study I have realized that the legal field cannot satisfy my personal and professional ambitions. In my opinion, and I do think that I am very far from being the only person taking the same point view, fundamental knowledge in finance and economics is the tool of highest quality making possible to understand and to interpret the surrounding reality much more precise and advances level. Unfortunately, I have approached to the problem of choice of economical university without due attention and have entered in a small and little-known university, nevertheless, having grasped all the opportunities coming with financial education, I have begun to spend a lot of time self-studying, along with university courses. I have purchased for that purpose in usa modern economics, corporate finance, financial accounting and mathematics textbooks with the complete set of supportive supplements (i was guided by the curriculums of usa and uk business schools and, partly, by the literature recommended for preparation to CFA exam) I consider that I have already reached the level of practical and theoretical foundation sufficient to start effective work in financial field. In medium term perspective I have set a goal to get a job in bank’s department responsible for financing bank activities. I consider that in order to achieve it, it will be indispensable to gain an experience in loan department, there are 2 reasons for that: 1. Loan portfolio is commonly the major part of the assets of commercial banks. Hence, the profound understanding of mechanism of its building provides the ability to evaluate the fair value of its assets and to find the ways of improving their quality. 2. Analysis of creditworthiness of potential borrowers implies intensive application of financial analysis, short-term and long-term financial planning methods, all that activity develops skills directly applicable to the process of making decisions regarding financing of the bank activities. I realize that I do not have considerable work experience on relevant position and certificate of degree by prestigious university. That is why exactly I have come to decision to write this letter. I wanted to focus your attention on my purposefulness and will to achieve significant results. The achievement of that goal is the task of paramount importance for me.Could you please be so kind and, if it is possible, pay the main attention to the curent version of the text. I mean that my main concern is the grammar, but i will be still unspeakably grateful to any suggestions on improvement of the content with as little changes to existing structure as it possible. I appreciate very much your responsiveness, patience and kind-heartedness! more

Resolved Question: What kind Of Classes should I take?

Ok, so I'm gonna be a freshman next year, and I'm not sure what kinds of classes I should take!. I wanna take classes that should set my career goals or at least head towards it or have them planned out. I don't even know what I want to do after High School (but I know for sure I'm going to College though, I meant what kind of career I want) and what kind of college I wanna go to or should. Here are some things I am interested in, and might take the classes: - Photography (Visual Arts) - Japanese ( World Language ) - Fashion & Design ( Family/Consumer Science ) - Intro to Business ( Business Ed. ) As you can see, the things I'm interested in are all over the place, which doesn't really help on what kinds of "important" classes I should take. I also have to pick 5 core classes plus Freshman Seminar. I have to have a total of 7.5 + Freshman Sem., credits selected. more

Resolved Question: Can someone please check this paragraphs for any errors? what do u suggest?

I am a person who likes to progress in life. I like to take advantage of any opportunity that that schools offers. Such as tuition free classes at Regional Occupation Program (ROP) and scholarships. I have received two certificates in ROP classes, Apartment Management and Business Computer Applications. These classes have motivated me to enter in the business field. I am planning to finish my credits at South Western College and transfers to San Diego State University to finish my career and obtain my Business Administration Bachelors degree specialize in management. I want to progress in life, I want to see the good side of life not just the bad one. I don’t want to live in this whole all my life. I want my parents to be proud of me. Since I’m the first person to graduate from high school, and attend college I want to set an example for my sister someone that she can look up for. I want to accomplish my dreams and goals. I am currently enrolled in a 5 units class at south western college and accounting class at Regional Occupation Program (ROP) which is a tuition free school. I would like for next semester to be enrolled as a full time student and enroll in four courses at South Western College. Because of my situation I find it difficult to meet the financial demands of supporting my self and paying for my education. My parents can’t support me; they are not doing well economically and barely afford and support their needs and my younger siblings. They can not help me with my educational expenses. The money I earn at the clothing store barely covers my books and supplies. A scholarship would help me a great deal. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to concentrate more on my studies and would facilitate my budget. more

Voting Question: What career can I persue with these interests?

I'm like 14 in high school, and I really want to set my mind on something, and careers thoughts always do the trick. I don't know what I want to be when I grow up since a lot of things interests me like studying Marine Life in their habitat and animals too, advertising businesses, I have a strange thing for food, like I just don't like eating it...well of course people like to eat, but I like creating and knowing things in the dish and creating food that'll just feel like heaven on your tounge. I like learning about the mind and how ti works like psychology. I like helping people. I also have this talent for art, I can draw anything on my mind, I plan on making a painting someday that'll just be amazing and moving! With all these interests and stuff I have no idea what Career I can make my goal. So can someone just give some ideas and info about them? thanks a bunch! more

Resolved Question: opening a business questions.?

So I am exploring some ideas for a career. I just recently graduated and now want to get my life rolling. I was considering being a naturopathic doctor, but 8 years in school...I don't think I could do that. I have always considered opening a business, of many kinds. I was just wondering if anybody could give me any advice on things to read or classes to take to learn about all of that? And to anybody who has a business or is planning on it, I know its risky regardless, but with hard work if I have alot of knowledge and a set goal, is it very unlikely to succeed in that field? Thanks a ton more

Resolved Question: Calderon vows to restore Mexico's appeal but will it work ?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070306/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/mexico_curing_migration MEXICO CITY - Mexican President Felipe Calderon won't be fighting for migration reform when he meets with President Bush next week. Instead, he will be be spelling out what he intends to do to keep Mexicans at home. ADVERTISEMENT Calderon, who was inaugurated on Dec. 1, has pledged to take 100 actions in his first 100 days in office, many of which represent the first steps toward "curing" Mexico's long tradition of illegal migration to the U.S. If implemented, his proposals could help transform Mexico from a labor-exporting country with relatively low growth, productivity and wages into an investment-rich, job-producing economy with better living standards for its 107 million people, nearly half of whom still live in poverty. "We are laying the foundation for a more just, healthy society with better and more equal opportunities for all," he said. Even a modicum of success for Calderon would improve on the record of his predecessor Vicente Fox, who failed to persuade the United States to accept Mexican guest workers and also could not put in place proposed reforms. Like Fox, Calderon faces powerful Mexican monopolies and oligopolies, union leaders and old-school politicians who have resisted changes to a system that concentrates power and wealth in a small number of hands and blocks attempts to improve competition, lower consumer prices and open the job market to more people. Unlike Fox, Calderon has shown he can rally lawmakers and others behind his plans: Congress unanimously passed his 2007 federal budget and he has united state governments behind a nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking. Among other things, he has proposed labor, energy and judicial reforms to encourage investment, promote competition and create jobs; improved tax collection to generate more revenue to fight poverty and improve education; universal health care and support for small and medium-size businesses. "Curing" migration will take many more than his six years in office, Calderon says. With this in mind, he set the goal of boosting Mexico's per-capita income from the equivalent of about $8,000 today to around $30,000 by 2030. "It won't be easy. It won't be fast, but yes, it is possible," Calderon said. Calderon and Bush will meet in Merida, the capital of Yucatan state, on March 13 and 14. Officials have not disclosed in detail the talks' agenda, but in addition to migration, the two are expected to discuss drugs and unresolved trade disputes over trucking rights and agricultural products. U.S.-bound migrants include not only poor and poorly educated unskilled laborers, but also middle-class entrepreneurs, college graduates and professionals. Many actually have jobs in Mexico, but the salaries don't match their talents and experience, and workplace discrimination is widespread. "I think he's on the right track, but migration is a long-term problem," said Jorge Chabat, an international affairs expert at Mexico City's Center for Economic Research and Instruction. Jose Antonio Perez, a 27-year-old college graduate from the oil-rich Gulf coast state of Veracruz, has a degree in mechanical engineering, but no real career prospects in Mexico. His jobs have included a five-month, unpaid engineering internship at a boat-repair company; a two-year job with a telephone company that offered no benefits and no chance of advancement; and his current teaching job, which requires little of his engineering skills and offers no insurance benefits, vacation, or job security. Perez works 12 hours a day Monday through Friday teaching high school mathematics and computers — a post that pays $12,000 a year. He supplements his income with odd carpentry and bricklaying jobs, or selling clothing and even cars. "I sleep four hours a night," he said. "I can't even think of having a family until I get something more secure." More than a year ago, when several of Perez's friends were working illegally in the United States, they earned as much as $26,300 a year pumping gas or working in carpentry. The friends have since returned, but their stories have inspired Perez. If his situation doesn't improve in six months, he plans to cross the border as well. "I could be a carpenter or a locksmith," he said. Calderon — who often notes that he has relatives in the United States, although he has not revealed their legal status — says he is well aware of the difficulties Mexicans face trying to live and work in their own country. He recently told the American Chamber of Commerce in Mexico: "The ideal situation for Mexico is not to have Mexicans migrate." ____ On the Net: http://www.presidencia.gob.mx/en more
