India-SA business relations set to soar despite some challenges in

But crime, health and safety issues and the perceived high corporate and individual tax rates are seen as business challenges.

For SA companies moving into India, they see that country as a highly rewarding investment opportunity but the social and cultural issues related to doing business there are problematic.

These are some of the findings of the PricewaterhouseCoopers' Trade winds - Setting sail for investment opportunities in South Africa and India survey, the first conducted by the newly established PwC India-Africa Desk, established to serve a growing need amongst investors considering both India and SA as viable investment destinations.

Troopti Naik (Pictured right), PwC Leader India-SA, says that India is now the world's 12th largest economy and the third largest in terms of purchasing power parity. more

UPDATE: NYSE Euronext Taps Marketing Executive As New CFO

CHICAGO -(Dow Jones)- NYSE Euronext (NYX) on Thursday named Michael Geltzeiler, a former media and marketing executive, as chief financial officer.

Geltzeiler will join the stock and derivatives exchange operator on June 16, having most recently headed the education business at the Reader's Digest Association, where he was also CFO from 2001 to 2007.

He succeeds acting CFO Joost van der Does de Willebois, who was appointed last year after Nelson Chai left to become CFO at Merrill Lynch & Co. (MER), rejoining former NYSE Chief Executive John Thain, who is now CEO of the Wall Street brokerage.

The appointment of an outside candidate comes as NYSE Euronext continues the integration of the trans-Atlantic exchange operators that merged to form the company last year. more

Sierra Leone: Build Business, Not Houses

A thorough survey will reveal that more houses are being built in different parts of the country more than the needed businesses that would generate income for both the government and the unemployed people in the country.

Unless the issue has been addressed, it is a widely known fact that to acquire a piece of land in Sierra Leone has never been an easy task. But it does not augur well for a growing nation, to realize that lands that were secured are used more to erect buildings for residential purposes.

Provision of accommodation is key in any nation, but if the observation President Koroma made that "More than 60% of the people (in Sierra Leone) live below the poverty line. We are in a country in which 60% of the youths are unemployed and the youth unemployment is on the increase on a daily basis" are to be addressed, then business development must take preeminence than accommodation. more

Business Planning Start Wedding Questions asked

Open Question: hypothetically speaking: wedding planner?

Here's a question for all you brides. I currently operate a very small wedding business; I make handmade wedding stationary, favors, and other essentials. I do it online and I attend a few wedding expos to build clientele. My husband and I moved across the country for his job, and before we moved, I was venturing into consignment wedding dresses. Anyway, now that I'm in a new city, I'm thinking about starting to go a little deeper into the business and go into wedding planning. I planned my own Mexico wedding and it was very successful plus I acted as wedding planner for a friend's wedding [directed rehearsal, dressed the hall, and detailed the entire day even down to grabbing a pail when the ceiling of the hall started to leak all over the head table, sending my husband out to find new fish for centerpieces after I found that the heating didn't work in the hall and half the fish had died, and burning the back of my leg putting out a fire that a guest had lite]. Unfortunately, my friend and I had a falling out since then, so I cannot use her as a reference. Anyway, I feel extremely confident in my abilities, I am going to university right now [I'm in my last year of a double degree so there isn't a way for me to go and take a wedding planner course or something]. How do you go about hiring someone? What credentials do you look at? Help? ~~ more

Resolved Question: Trying to advertise a home business, cheap and legal?

Hi, everyone! I've been posting quite a few questions lately in different categories, and here is another one! I have been certified as a wedding consultant, since October of 2009. I practice in Michigan, where it is not necessary to be certified, but I did that for myself. I want to start advertising to brides in Michigan without spending a ton of money up front. My fiance and I are planning our own wedding, plus he's the only one working since we are still in school. I don't know if I should invest in business cards to leave with some bridal shops, I can do that for about $20. Does anyone know of any bridal forums I could post to? Does anyone have any other ideas that are somewhat cheap but totally legal. I'm not against spending money, I know that it takes money to have money, I'm just looking for some other creative ideas to help me get things going. My website is @: http://weddingprofessional.samanthasanborn.com/consulting.htm I already have a special deal, first 5 clients to sign with me, I will do for free, simply to gain clients and experience. Thank you. more

Resolved Question: Got a "surprise" raise?

For the past 5 years I have been constantly told that the owner can't afford to give me a raise. 2 weeks ago my immediate manager quit, and the one other person in my department is looking for an other job, leaving me the only person in the department who knows anything about what's going on. I was not offered the position of manager when my boss put in her notice. Instead, the owner made his niece the new manager, even though she is from another country and has no idea what she is doing. She knows this, as does the owner. The owner has never said a word to me about this transitional period, and has never in the entire 6.5 years I've worked there ever acknowledged my contributions to the department. Today I opened my paycheck to see that I had been given a 16.8% raise. It is blatantly obvious to me that he is only paying me more because he is afraid that I'm going to quit, too. I have already been looking for another job and have had 3 interviews. All have said that they are not hiring right now and to check back in a few weeks when the business starts to pick up for spring and summer (I work in the wedding business). So, if you were treated with the same lack of respect, would an extra $400 a month entice you to stick it out and train a complete moron to be your boss? Or would you bail? PS: I'm planning on bailing...just wondering what others would do. more

Resolved Question: Would you buy from my business?

I'm thinking of starting my own home based wedding flower business. I owned my own flower shop for years so I know how to make beautiful arrangements. The business would cater to brides on a tight budget. My question is if you were getting married would you buy from someone experienced and knowledgeable who worked from their home opposed to going to an actual flower shop? I have a spare room that is very nice that I plan on setting up as my "shop". It is plenty big enough to have people in to talk about their wedding and create the arrangements. I could save someone a ton of money since I will have no overhead expenses but I'm not sure if people would be interested. more

Voting Question: am i overreacting to this situation?

Ok so here's the story. I have been with my boyfriend for about 6 months and we are wanting to get married hopefully in august (i know it seems a little sudden but i really love this guy a lot) but there is a kink in our plans. when i first met him he had just gotten back from iraq (he is in the army) and is in the middle of trying to get a divorce. he married this girl about 2 years ago when she said she was pregnant, and they purchased a car together but he put it in his name since she could not be approved to have her name on the title. shortly after he got deployed to iraq , she said she had a miscarriage and that she was no longer wanted to be married to him and had apparently moved on to another poor unsuspecting solider. so anyways he worked out a deal with her that she could keep the car if she continued to make payments on it (which surprise surprise the entire time he was gone which was 4 months she didn't make one payment on the car and destroyed his credit). when he did get back from iraq me and him had met and hit it off pretty quickly and he explained his complicated situation and assured me that the divorce would be finalized next month (which would have been october we met at the end of august). he usually didn't come out and update me on the situation unless i asked so i asked him around the first of october if the divorce was done, he told me that the paper work got "screwed up" and would have to be refiled. after he told me this i kind of dropped the questions for a while but around thanksgiving time he was hinting that he was planning on asking me to marry him and giving me a ring, so naturally i asked him again if the paperwork had been filled out and turned in, he told me that it had and the divorce would be finalized that coming tuesday. of course since he had told me that it was done i started making plans for the wedding in august, my parents offered to pay for the wedding but since they were skeptical of my boyfriends past they wanted proof that he was in fact divorced before they did put any money towards a ceremony. well come to find out i see him text messaging and being rather "sneaky" about it and i ask him who he is talking to and he tells me a "friend from work". i glance over at the screen while he's not looking and i see his ex's name. i don't confront him right away because sometimes i like to think before i speak and i ask him the next day what she was messaging him about. he told me they were trying to figure out their taxes (which by the way he already done so i know that's a lie) and i say ok well let me see your phone to conform that, all his messages where magically missing. finally he fesses up that he STILL is not divorced and to "mind my own business" which of course enraged me, I mean if we're supposedly engaged wouldn't something like that be of concern to me as well? i continue to pry for answers and he tells me he intends to send in the paperwork again because before he didn't have the money to do it, which irritates me because i feel like that is not something to put on the back burner when you have plans to marry someone else. so long story short, here we are, beginning of february and it still has not been done and he has no date as to when it will be done, all he knows is he has some sort of family counseling class on the 23rd which is mandatory, but he told me he wouldn't be surprised if the divorce wasn't done in time for august and he might have to plan something for the winter. this really upset me and i cant help but get angry at him for lying to me about this whole thing and it makes me question if i am doing the right thing by marrying someone who is already being sneaky and underhanded about things when we have only been dating 6 months. My family says i am being way to hard on him and these things take time and the only reason he lied to me was because i get mad with him if it's not progressing, and he tells me the same thing. don't get me wrong he is a wonderful man otherwise and treats me very good, and i am by no means implying he has feelings for his ex, but i have always had a thing against people who lie to me. please tell me if i am being ridiculous i would honestly like to know. more

Resolved Question: Should I accept a job offer that is 4 hrs. away from my fiance?

Here is the back story that makes this decision so difficult. My finance asked me to marry him this past summer. I was so excited, but shortly there after, my excitement waned when I realized how stressful it was to plan the wedding. My future mother in law was very much involved, more than what I was comfortable with and my fiance didn't want to plan at all. She had opinions about everything. A few months into it, we both decided to leave well enough alone. Well, we have healed from that fiasco and are now trying to start planning again. His mother is very excited and has started being very involved again, but I am trying to work with her as much as I can. It is getting stressful again, but that's another story. The real question is I recently applied for a job 4 hours away from where my fiance and I live (we live together by the way). I applied not really thinking I would be offered an interview, but I've moved past the first 2 stages and have now been offered an interview. It is a big promotion making 20% more than what I make now. I have been wanting a position like this for a while. My fiance lived in this city before moving back to his hometown (where we met). When I try to talk to him about the position, he says he is happy for me, but can't even think about it right now. I think we need to talk about it. If I am offered the position, should I accept, turn it down, ask him to move with me. He owns his own business which can be run from either city. I just don't know what to do. I don't want to loose my fiance, but I also don't want to turn down a huge pay increase and my dream job. How do I even approach the subject with him? more

Resolved Question: What does my scary dream mean?

In my dream, I was at my own wedding, only I didn't plan any of it, and there was no groom or groomsmen, but I had about 30 bridesmaids that I didn't choose. I was supposed to have found a groom before my wedding day, but I didn't. I was standing outside in my wedding gown, arguing with my Dad. I kept trying to tell him that it was stupid and I wanted to call it off. But he told me he had already paid for everything and it was time for me to get married. And I told him that I didn't have anyone to marry. He said that he knew that I was in love with someone, so I needed to just ask him to marry me, and if he wouldn't, I should just ask someone else. And he said,"There are plenty of guys here, just pick one." And as were standing there arguing, all of these people were going into the church. And I realized I would have to go up in front of all of these people and stand alone. I began to feel dizzy and short of breath and then I started vomiting, and no one even noticed or cared. They just went on about their business. This dream absolutley terrified me. What does it mean? more

Resolved Question: Cupcake pricing for special events?

I've made cupcakes for a friends' wedding & was told several times I should start a business. I have seen prices up to $3 per cupcake. I plan on making the icing from scratch but its possible that I would use boxed cake mix. I was thinking like $1 EACH, for a basic decorated cupcake & $1.50 for cupcakes with filling. Resolved Question: I'm ready to throw in the towel on my 19 year marriage. Communication is poor, I can't approach him without...?

I'm ready to throw in the towel on my 19 year marriage. The communication between us is poor, at best. I cannot approach him about anything that he might disagree with, or find disagreeable, as this often results in an explosive temper tantrum on his part. He will smash things, and clench and unclench his fists in anger. He also "takes things out on" our daughter after we fight. If i don't agree or at least go along with everything he thinks, does, etc. I am being unreasonable. I usually go along with whatever the thing may be, from TV programs to where to go out for dinner, just to keep the peace. My thoughts, my feelings are inconsequential. The man that I got to know prior to my marriage actually never existed - it was all an act, an act that I fell for hook, line and sinker. It was like he was acting in a part as a movie or TV character - the perfect man. I decided to stay after I discovered "the real him" for the fact that we had a daughter within a year of saying "I do." And, I thought he'd change - fool that I was. Next fall, our daughter starts college. My baby will be grown. I am done. I have my own thoughts, feelings and needs, and they are not being met in this relationship. We don't even have sex anymore, for years now - he has no sex drive, at least for me. He takes care of himself... We have never had good communication. Sad to say, I married him too soon after meeting him (6 months). I was in love with the idea of love. If I had met his family prior to our marriage, we would never have been wed, as I can see how be became so very damaged. His father was a mealy-mouthed wimp. His mother ran the entire show - and she is mentally ill. Nothing was ever good enough, she always had to be in complete control - or else she would sabotage family plans by becoming "sick" and taking to her bed for days and weeks at a time. Sometimes, she becomes violent, striking out at anyone within arm-reach. All three of her children have weird relationships. They find it hard to make or keep friends of any kind. They are all very secretive and paranoid about others knowing "their business." I don't know if I'm splitting up with him or more likely the case may be that I'm escaping him. Our daughter has been after me for years - why do you put up with this??? Why do you let him treat you this way? BTW, he has the biggest ego of any one person I have ever met. He thinks he is everything a woman would want and need - so that's why I should be grateful to have him! I need advise, obviously. He did hit me twice early in the marriage. I slapped him when he was becoming unbearable with his name-calling, making faces at me and belittling me. He told me I wasn't going anywhere with his toddler daughter, so I slapped him in an attempt to snap him into reality - he had really lost it. I soon learned that he would smack me back, and hard too even if I was trying to get him to "sober-up" emotionally-wise.. more

Resolved Question: Need Help! Crazy Mother-in-law!!!?

Before my husband and I got married, we were living together. He was 25 and never had a girlfriend so I was his first. He was living at home with his parents and was a momma's boy! She was a control freak and never admits it. He had to sleep in his bedroom with no locks on the door because he was living under her roof. She would stay up and wait up for him and ask him where he was. If he was hanging out at my place, she would have his crazy sister text him to come home, it was getting late. She told him that he shouldn't be visiting me and when I moved out to my new apartment at the time, she told him not to help me because it was none of his business. I was married once so she looked at me like I wasn't a clean women. She told Adam that I have way to much experience and that he shouldn't date me anymore. Well, eventually he got tired of her BS and realized how crazy his mom was. His mom was so used to having him all to herself and now that he had a GF she couldn't stand it! His sister would come into his room (at the time he was living at home) and make stupid comments like "Ohhh, your on the phone again with her?" and "Your someone else's b***!" Then, she started getting crazy. She started texting him about how he'd rather choose to be with me then her!!!! I thought that was really weird because she was so upset that he wasn't complimenting her anymore and would talk about me to them. They couldn't stand that he was starting to become a real man and that they couldn't tell him what to do anymore! Well, he moved out with me because he got tired of the 2 crazy control freaks (mom & sister). His mom started telling everyone about how "I took Adam away from the family." I wasn't even trying to provoke anything. She told everyone how I had this planned all along! Which is insane because I never, ever would do such a thing. I was never mean to her or did anything to offend her...so, I thought it was ridiculous for her to come up with all these crazy things to get everyone to go against me and make me look like I was the crazy one!!! We got engaged! After living together for almost 2 years I got pregnant. In my previous marriage I was married for 7 years. I couldn't get get pregnant so I wasn't expecting this! We decided that we should tell his parents although they might be against it. We both sat down and had a talk with his parents. He was 27 and I was 25 at the time. His mom was furious and his dad never really said anything. She cursed us with horrible words. She claims she is a Christian and a godly women but what she said to us was nothing close to it! She said "Our baby was going to live in poverty!" She said I knew you were pregnant! Why are you guys just telling us now? I was in shock because I was barley 2 months pregnant and found out 2 weeks ago! She said she knew a few months ago but didn't want to say anything! Yes, she is a crazyyyyy ladyyyyyy!!!! So, we got married at the court house since I was pregnant. We were planning to have our wedding but since I got pregnant we had to prepare for the baby instead. His mom insist that we go to this church she was going to since they do hands on deliverance. What she really wanted was the hear the pastor say something about how we are out of order and how God never blessed our marriage so maybe Adam could leave me for good. The pastor is a prophet also. When he prophesied over Adam and I he told us that God blessed our marriage and we were meant to be together because that is what he had planned for us although, we didn't do it in a godly way...he still blessed our union. My mother-in-law was in shock. After the service she apologized for everything she'd ever done to me in the past and so did his dad. They were awesome and good to me for a while. So, now since his sister is 8 months pregnant and never been to a doctor my mother in-law keeps telling us to mind our own business. She says that God will be Adam's sister's health physician and that she will have a healthy baby. Lately, she has been making rude comments about how Adam's sister will have a good baby that doesn't cry like my baby. She said people who have c-sections have curses on them. They said the labor was difficult because I had demons on me! She said that babies aren't suppose to cry while in church service for 6 hours so our baby is not normal. She said babies shouldn't cry at night time, if they do that means we aren't living a godly life and etc, etc, etc. She's met my family about 2 times and don't ever have a conversation with them. She talks about how my family are devil worshipers because they are not Christians. She tells people in front of my face how I just look like the nanny (I am asian, my husband is half Italian & Portuguese) that takes care of my daughter or I'm just the seragate mother. She'll laugh really loud and think it's hilarious. She says that my husband and I are out of order because he doesn't go do whatever he wants because a man should put godfirst, himself, then his wife and kid. I believe that as well but she always twist things around saying that he should be able to do what he pleases!!! I am so tired of her! I've tried not to see her as much as possible but even when I do see her once in a while....something stupid always comes out of that mouth of hers! My mom has always taught me to respect the elders so I have always been polite to her regardless of how she treats me. She thinks I am weak because I never say anything negative to her. I'm getting to the point where I just want to snap and say mean things to her! I can only take so much because enough is enough!!!! I dis-like that women!!!! What can I do? Please give me some good advice!!! I can't even say anything without her rebuking my husband and I. For example if I said that car cost $25,000, we don't have enough money to make that monthly payment." She would tell me to repent for those words that I said!!! I need advice people! HELPPPP!! more

Resolved Question: My husband is driving me crazy - am I expecting too much?

I wonder if other wives feel like this - my husband and I have been married for many years and are fairly happy, but there are some things that absolutely drive me mad. When he is going to be late, he never calls to let me know. Just last month we had to drive to a wedding three hours away (the wedding was the following morning) and he went to help a friend that morning, but didn't call to let me know that he would be late coming home - I finally reached him on his cell phone about three hours after we should have left - he said he got busy and would be home in another two hours! I had been waiting and worrying. He doesn't call if he will be two hours late home from work either - I don't mind if he is even an hour late, but I start to worry if he is later than that and I don't hear from him. If we are meeting friends for dinner at a restaurant, he is absolutely insistent that we are on time, he says he hates to be late and keep people waiting, but when I am the one waiting, he doesn't care or let me know. When I had to go away with our daughter for a couple of days, I phoned on the first day and left a message to say we had arrived safely, then the following day to say we would be home in the evening of the following day. We actually hit bad weather and were 4 hours late, but he was asleep in bed when we got home, AND he hadn't listened to the messages! It makes me feel like he doesn't care - he forgot my birthday a couple of years ago and last year got me a birthday card and gave it to me still in the bag (he hadn't signed it or anything). Last year was a significant birthday for him and I planned a party, booked a Hall, invited all his friends - got our older kids to cook food - it was a great party, but all I get for my birthday is a card that he didn't bother to actually write. He is a hard worker, we have a lovely home, our kids are doing well, we own a business .... I should be happy, but I'm not. Am I being unreasonable? Am I expecting too much? Are all men like this? He really makes me feel like I am unimportant and insignificant. He is also un-apologetic - he doesn't ever say he's sorry for not calling. he makes me feel like I am being unreasonable for being annoyed with him - he jokes with his friends that I am clingy - I am not, I am a busy woman with running my own business, but I think that in a marriage there should be caring, cooperation and consideration to make things run smoothly. Thanks for all the answers - I have tried talking to him about this and how it saddens me, but his response is to sleep in the basement because I'm picking on him. He also says that you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but I tell him "It depends how smart your dog is!". He also has a mean temper which isn't getting any better - we are heading towards retirement so I don't really want to spend my last years with a man who couldn't care less about me, and spends his time yelling and shouting. We may have to try counseling, but chances are he won't go - because he sees this as my problem, not his. more

Resolved Question: what do you do when you are married to a man who is not supportive with his wife's business?

I've been with this man for almost 13 years. We have been married for over three years. I started my event/wedding planning business in 2005. He has a lot of links to helping me, but didn't feel the event planning business is a lucrative business until his friend told him that it is a multi million dollar industry. Also, each year I became more successful. Please help. SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY I also see him as narcissistic. he has not been diagnosed. more

Resolved Question: How does one become a wedding planner?

I'm a freshman in high school, which means pretty soon, guidance counselors are going to start making us decide where we want to go to school, what we want to be when we grow up, etc. I'm taking a business course and it kind of makes me want to start a small business. I'd really love to be a wedding planner. My question is, how do I become one? What classes should I take? Especially, what college courses should I be looking at? I know networking is key when starting your own business. What sort of job should I be looking for before starting my own business? What kind of jobs are good for people with an interest in wedding planning? Villanova is my number 1 choice for college, and I believe they have a business school. Are there any courses there for people who want to start their own business (particularly wedding planning?) Don't tell me I'm too young to think about this, or that I'm immature, please. This is what I want to do with my life. Please, any information you have about anything I've asked is welcome (: Thank you so much! (:Fuck you. Why does nobody help me with my questions.Just kidding about the "fuck you" part. sorry (: more

Resolved Question: Unemployment appeal.?

I worked for my employer for 7 years, in that 7 years I might have missed 5 days of scheduled work. About 4 years ago, my employer began hiring foreign students during the busy summer months. About a year after that, the students that we being hired started complaining about their paychecks being short monies and hours that they work. I informed everyone that it would be wise to keep up with their clock in and clock out slips being that I had no control over payroll, start doing the math at the end of the pay period just to be sure. This became an ongoing problem for the students and many chose not to work for the store. After losing many good employees due to the way they were being treated, I looked into the attendance sheets tat were printed at the end of each pay period and found that the owner of the store was skimming off the top of almost everyone who was foreign and getting paid under the table, so I went to the owner and told him that my coworkers we complaining about their paychecks, and that I had looked at the tapes and saw the correct hours where he had scratched out and taken a couple hours off each persons checks, from this point the owner took payroll tapes home. From this point on I always told new employees to keep up with their clock in clock out papers so that they would have proof (problem continued). This year my ex-boss hired two people from europe and problem continued, one employee quit. The other continued for some time until he notced his checks being short regularly and he did mention this to the owner, his hours were cut. During a conversation with my ex employer, he stated "--- is from a little country over there in europe, who knows if they taught him how to count". I took offense to this and expressed this to mr.employer. For three weeks I heard very little from mr. employer (over time I worked for mr.employer we talked on a weekly basis about business). On 11/10/2009 an employee from the hr company that paid me came into the store and I asked him whom I should talk to about the comment that was made and he gave me the lady's info. The employee left the store and between 11/10-11/13 informed my boss of my plans to speak with someone about the situation. On 11/13/2009 I was repremanded for asking who to speak with about the issue. That following wed 11/18/2009 I was terminated over the phone, the reason given by my employer was "you're just creating a hostile work environment". I filed for unemp. comp. and was approved but then sent a letter stating "Insubordination" was reason given by employer for termination and insub. is misconduct. I had not spoken to mr. employer from 11/13/2009-11/18/2009, so insubordination was a false claim, not to mention "hostile work environment" statement, being that I worked alone and all employees got along well. What should I do? more

Resolved Question: Help with my photography?

Me and my sister share a photography site for a business we are doing together. I was wondering If you could check out www.backprint.com/estradaphoto A lot of the albums are private but my album is called A winters day. I think the only one of my sisters photography that is viewable right now is The Johns Wedding. Please view them and tell us what you think, what we can do better, ect.. Some people have told me that they suck and that we are opening ourself up to lawsuit. We are not professional and we never claim to be. I have just started taking pictures therfore I know they are not the best and my album is A winters day so don't think I have been doing this a while and still suck. We live in a small town and not everyone wants photos that cost $10,000 so I understand that they are not edited and in black and white and everything. We understand they are not the "best". Someone also commented that they did not seemed planned. Photography is not always planned. A good shot can pop out of no where. Oh and someone said that they did not meet the "minimum standards as commonly accepted within the photography profession", as I said before we don't claim to be profession but what are these standards? Please help? more

Voting Question: If we had a Pay-out for our old car loan, Can they still charge us money?

This summer I purchased a new car. Because I still owed on my trade in, The dealer paid out the company dealing with the previous loan. The loan was to be paid in full, and was paid to the amount stated by the loan company. Now after 5 months, the loan company is saying we owe them money. After no contact for the 5 months they are saying we owe them a balance with interest. They are threatening to ruin our credit and collect the car, although that would be impossible. The car is not ours. The amount due is less than a thousand but we planned and paid for our early Jan Wedding in 3 months and are starting a business venture. Money is tight. Why can they threaten us with recollection and ruined credit if we should in fact owe them no money. And is it ethical to send a threatening letter one day after sending the first correspondance? We do not think we owe them money and if we do because of thier mistake, perhaps they should handle the situation a little kinder. more

Resolved Question: planning our wedidng is braking us up! why?

My fiance is getting on my nerves at the moment. We have been together for 7 years and are 23 and 24. we got engaged 3 months ago and plan to marry in just under 2 years. We are both really keen to start a family but i have always wanted to be married first, I won't change my mind on that. Since we got engaged we have had about 5 really big arguments (we never ever row) about the wedding! Its so ironic. I planned a wedding in mexico as we have been twice in the last 8 months and love it. We want a reception when we get back home too and our first costings come to £34,000. They are huge estimates. I have just lost my job which has put a bit of pressure on us but my fiance has a great job. I have a small business which gets me by at the moment till i can find work. Our friends we go to mexico with (are quite rich) they booked again last weekend. They want us to go with them and my fiance is really wanting to book for febuary. I said we shouldn't as that would be 3 times in 15 months which is crazy! I would love to go but i told him i am worried about the wedding. We haven't even starting saving for the wedding, my partner hasn't even looked at the budget. he wants to book and says there is no chance we are having the wedding if it costs that much, I said i don't want to go to mexico if it means not having enough for a wedding. We could downgrade but i dont want to and nor does he really. we both have big plans but now it seems he has turned his back on our wedding so he can go to mexico again! what can i do? more

Resolved Question: Does he still love me?

I had been with my ex boyfriend for 3 years and we were going to get married. Well, I moved an hour away to go to college and I only come home on weekends. Me and him used to spend all of our time together because we were both running my family's business. He went to college 2 years ago and he always told me that no matter what, nothing would change our relationship with each other and he even told me this after he left college. When he left college is when he started running my family's business. Well, from there we started becoming more and more in love and we started planning our wedding. Our parents didn't know about it, but our siblings and all of our friends did. My grandpa and my great aunt even wrote him into their wills. Then I had to go to college. I told him the same things he told me like this wouldn't change our relationship. Well, a month ago he decided he wanted to go figure out his life and he didn't think he is fully ready for commitment and he doesn't know if he feels the same about me. So, we broke up. Within the same week of us breaking up I was in a car accident. My family wasn't around and so he was the first person I called and he was there within minutes and as soon as he got to me he ran to me and was holding me and wouldn't let me go. He kept telling me he loved me. I'm still completely in love with him. He is still working in my family's business, running it because right now he has nowhere else to go and it would be wrong to fire him just because he broke up with me and me and my family still love him. Well, I just found out that he is seeing another girl, but when I saw him yesterday he broke down crying when he saw me, he wouldn't talk to me, and he wouldn't make eye contact with me except for one time. When he did make eye contact with me his eyes were blood shot and he looked miserable. When I am not around he always asks my friends about me, but when I am around he tries to act like he doesn't care, but he looks horrible. I'm just so confused right now and I'm still in love with him and I don't know what he's feeling toward me. I had bought him a christmas present a couple months ago and I don't know whether to give it to him. Somebody please give me advice. more

Resolved Question: What makes him think that its OK for him to communicate with her?

My fiance and I broke up I want to say the beginning of September because he went on a business trip and came home and said he wanted to be with someone else. We decided to work things out and got back together the end of October. Everything has been good so far. I have recently been having a feeling that maybe he could be talking to her again. I guess it was my intuition telling me. He got a prepaid phone because his cell phone got cut off. It was turned back on so now he has both phones. He keeps his main phone by his side a lot of the times. He also has a lock code on it. To make along story short he left his prepaid phone in some short he worked out in. I went to put the clothes in the washer and found his phone. So yes I went through it and she has that number. He sent her text and said this is the number to my other phone. So I just don't understand what makes him think its ok for him to talk to her again after all we've been through. It was so many tears and sleepless nights. We finally go things back in order and I find this out. I can't go through it again. We still have plans to get married and start a family but we figured that we would just give it sometime before we started the wedding talk again. What should I do and how should I bring it up? I was thinking that I would ask him "Are you talk to her again?" Or "When was the last time you've talked to her?" If he lies then I would say then why did you give her the number to your new phone. I was also thinking about giving him an ultimatum either her continues to talk to her and lose me or cut all communication with her. I don't know any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks more

Resolved Question: Advice please - so I don't go crazy?

My wife and I have been married for 9 years and have 3 year old twins. Over the years we had more than our fair share of major problems. These included major car accident, business failure, twins being born, major changes in income, bankruptcy, home repairs, etc....But during the marriage the biggest problem was my gambling. Over the years we would gamble together as fun and entertainment, but somewhere along the way I lost control. As we started experiencing problems I began to turn to gambling more and more as a solution. It did not work. Over and over again I kept going because I did not know how to "fix" the problems and ended up only making things a lot worse. It got to the point where she was begging me not to go and I would ask her how else I could fix things if I didn't go and she would tell me that if I went she would leave me. I would hurt her and go again anyways. I was very stupid and confused. One day she would tell me she would leave if I went, then 3 weeks later she planned a getaway for us to Vegas. It was like bringing an alcoholic to a bar. Now don't get me wrong, I accept full blame for what I did and now realize how badly I hurt her over and over again. I only say this because I think it is why I didn't take her threats to leave all that seriously back then. We went from me making 30k a month 5 years ago to making 4k a month now. We lost everything. Our nice big home, fancy cars, lifestyle. Over the 5 years as the downward spiral was happening I became more and more desperate to stop it. To "fix" things. To get back what we lost because I feared that if I didn't then I would ultimately lose her. I turned to the casino more and more. I hurt her more and more. About 7 months ago, I screwed up for the last time really bad. So badly that I finally thought I hit rock bottom and it opened my eyes to what I had been doing wrong for so long and how much I had hurt her over the years. 3 years ago she stopped wearing her wedding ring. 2 years ago she kicked me out of our bed and over a year ago she stopped having sex with me. Through all of this neither of us ever even talked about going to counseling or any other way to stop things before it was too late for some reason. She kicked me out of the house and I lived in my car for 3 weeks. 7 months ago I stopped gambling and signed myself out of the casinos. She eventually let me back into the house and I agreed to give her 90% of my take home pay so she could pay the household bills. For the last seven months I have put my nose to the grind to prove to her that things would be different. I work hard at a job I hate. I make very little money compared to before. Not even enough to make ends meet. She cannot do the things I used to be able to give her the ability to do like shopping or going out to eat on a regular basis or getaways. But I figured if I worked hard and did my best to rebuild and stayed away from gambling that she would start to see I was changing for the better and trying to win her back. So that was my plan and I stuck to it. Then about 4 months ago she started going out with friends from school, she is 29 and a full time student in a radiological tech program. Over the course of the first 2 months she would go out once in a while. Then it got to be more and more often. She then started staying out until 3 or 4 in the morning while I was home with the kids. Then it started happening 2 or 3 times a week. I obviously got suspicious and started asking questions. She told me she was just hanging out with friends and either going out to a local bar or studying late. Eventually (October) I found out that she was seeing another man and had been since August. She cheated on me with him. I confronted her and she denied it at first. I moved out of the house. Over the next month or so, I found more and more clues about their relationship. The worst was on his birthday when I saw a card she had written to him declaring her love for him. That hurt the worst. I tried a number of times over this period of time to convince her to come back to me and go to counseling. To not give up on us and our children. She said no. She said she was confused but she knew 2 things for sure. One, she didn't have feelings of love or intimacy towards me anymore. Two, she had developed serious feelings for him. I was crushed and still am. I would have conversations with her and I told her that it took this happening for me to finally realize what I had done to her over the years and how badly I hurt her. I don't know why it took so long and such a drastic thing for me to finally wake up but I did and I wanted her to know that. It was too late. He just came out of a 3 year relationship in August when he and my wife started seeing each other. During the last month and a half she had been flaunting him in my face. She said she did not have him at our house, I found out he has been there a number of times. She said he doesn't sleep over, that was a lie. She said he comes ove more

Voting Question: would you be offended by this behavior(long)?

my sil had 6 baby showers for the same pregnancy. she invited me to everyone of them and expected me to show up w/ a gift to all of them(my husband and i are unemployed, and we have an 18 mo. old, and up until very recently were living w/ mil-she decided to move herself, fil,and gmil into one apt. and move us into another- in an effort to sell the house). i bought her an exersaucer(which was left at mil's & our house for months), a sleep sack, a blanket, and made her a diaper cake w/ all the trimmings, which practically broke us for a few weeks. even after this, she continued to invite me to the showers(there were 5 more after this), knowing i & my husband were out of work & struggling(sil & bil, my husbands brother, both have great jobs w/ benefits & insurance, own their own house, have 2 cars, & the extra cash to go out to a nice dinner every night). not only this, but mil started coming after me to go & get more gifts also, along w/ taking my sons things w/o asking(which i was holding onto for his siblings as we cannot afford to go out & buy new each time, not to mention bil & sil are notorious for either losing things they borrow or their dog destroys it). i have yet to even receive a thank you note from them, not to mention sil has been going out of her way to act like she is a better mom when she quit breastfeeding so she could drink when ever she wanted, along w/ she barely feeds her child(maybe 1 4 oz. bottle every4 hours, & the rest of the time shoves a pacifier in his face), refuses to get up w/ him in the night, leaves him w/ her dad during the day from 7 am until 7pm(she wanted my husband & i to do this every day including weekends & nights for free-not even kidding), & stayed gone for 2 weekends in a row before her son was barely a month old-not business related either, she wanted to go off & hang out 3 hours away w/ her friends. just dropped the baby on bil, & ran out the door. she also acts like she is the greatest thing since sliced bread b/c she leaves her less than 2 mo. old baby to scream himself to sleep in the room down the hall(they have a double risk of SIDS as sil lost a younger sister to SIDS, & bil lost a niece-our daughter- to SIDS) & that is a major risk factor along w/ the no breastfeeding, along w/ the losses on both sides. i understand parenting styles differ, & breastfeeding is a choice, but i feel she is putting her child in danger for her own selfish wants. she actually had the gall to act like i was wrong for breastfeeding my son & told me in a very condescending tone that i should bottle feed my next child b/c it was better. i think the main thing that bothers me also w/ this is that mil(who was all over me like a rash every hour of every day w/ both of my children, who if my child cried looked(& still looks) at me like i was the worst mother ever & who bitched me out for leaving my child to go shopping by myself for 1 hour for christmas when my child was 7 mos. old, when i had not gone anywhere w/o my son since he was born & when i tell my son no) doesn't care. sil is her favorite, & can do no wrong(she shows blatant favoritism to her, like ridiculously blatent-blowing off needed shopping i have asked her to help me w/ where she knows i'm paying to go shopping w/ sil & buy her stuff, then complains that i dont involve her enough). sil and mil also made planning my wedding this past june an absolute nightmare. mil made me make sil a bm, then started demanding that she be moh. when i said no(as i wanted my sisters for moh's) and explained why, i got run through the ringer for the next several months, along w/ sil and mil scamming behind my back to get sil a new dress that looked nothing like the other bridesmaids(she wanted a really short low cut non maternity dress and my bridesmaids dresses were tea length, and had a halter neckline that covered everyone) so she could look like the moh 2 weeks before the wedding, demanding that she get the dress that she wanted even after i found her a really nice and really cheap maternity semi formal gown that looked like the other bm's dresses. i finally had my husband tell mil that i had had it, and it was either she get the dress i specified, or that was it, she was out of the wedding(this was after months of her and mil fighting me tooth and nail on every last detail of everything; mil didn't like the wedding dh & i could afford, so she went out & paid for all this other stuff w/o asking, then got mad & complained about having spent the money, then came after me about it, & sent fil to chew me out too). she never did any of the things bm's are supposed to do(like send out hen night & bridal shower invites) & wouldn't let any of my other bm's do anything. she went out & bought a bunch of food that was for the most part for bil's party the next day, & charged my other bm's for it all, saying it was for my bridal shower after she didn't send out almost all of the invitations(she sent 2 out of 40), & wouldn't give the others a list & allow the other bm's to pick up items when they went grocery shopping(one bm was basically a single mom, the other had a niece in the nicu at the time) w/ both my baby showers, i made sure she received a thank you note before the baby was born(both my showers were at 7 mos. pregnant). for both my bridal shower & my wedding she got a thank you note promptly(in the case of my bridal shower i handmade her a really nice card, & thanked her extensively, & got chewed out massively by fil for that as well, as it wasn't enough apparently).would you also be offended by mil's behavior? i feel like it isnt right for her to show such blatent favoritism(looking at this from a future mil perspective- i have a son, and he will have a sibling at some point as well, and i cannot see showing that much favoritism towards one spouse and such disdain towards the other).i guess i am asking as a person observing this situation, would you think the mil's behavior of being so dismissive of the one dil but so hung up on the other one and acting like she was in hs and shunning the other dil w/ the other son's wife is ok, or would you think that it is really offensive also in addition to the sil's behavior? would you expect the mil to step in and say something to the sil, or to side w/ the sil? i am trying to get other peoples insight here as i am the only one it seems in my little bubble that seems to see a problem w/ sil's behavior or for that matter mil and/or fil's behavior as well. my husband got so that when we were still living in the house he wouldnt leave me alone w/ them b/c they would come after me and verbally attack me and i would end up in tears. they have continued this when they come to the apt. and my husband steps outside to have a smoke.if i say anything back, they flip it around and say that i attacked them to everyone in the family. mil has been lying to all of them for years, and has been telling all of the family that i do nothing and she is raising my son for me(which isnt true in the least- i take care of my son 24/7 pretty much unless i get a rare time to go out w/ my friends and then my husband is watching him). mil has also been trying to wrap dh up in her lies as well, and he really doesnt like it. i don't have anyone from my own family around me to ask, so i am trying to get some outside imput. more
