Ziraat considering options to return to insurance business

The commission discussed a business partnership between the bank and the French Groupama, which acquired the two Ziraat affiliates -- Başak Insurance and Başak Pension Fund -- in the insurance sector. During the meeting, Republican People's Party (CHP) Amasya deputy Hüseyin Ünsal asked why Ziraat Bank still carried out its insurance transactions using Başak Groupama.

Speaking at the commission meeting, Uludağ noted that there is no other bank in the world that does not administer an insurance company, adding that the board of the bank has been working to found a new insurance company or acquire or partner with an existing one since 2006. Recalling that they have the capacity and potential to found a new insurance company as soon as they are granted permission to do so, Uludağ said the bank is now focused on acquisition of an existing insurance company after the Treasury rejected their proposal to establish a new one. more

Food industry players 'crave' access to loans

Local food industry players at yesterday's Jamaica Observer Food Awards Foodie Seminar say banks still make it too difficult to get a small business off the ground.

Held at the Hilton Kingston Hotel under the theme "Taking it Beyond The Big Food Idea", local restauratuers, chefs and caterers discussed various ideas and issues concerning the food industry.

Gariel Ferguson, co-owner and operator of popular Kingston restaurant Rib Kage Bar and Grill and owner of the new gourmet kitchen accessories and specialty store Kitch 'N' Thyme, told the audience that one of the main issues was acquiring financing from the banks.

"We went with our gut and opened Kitch 'N' Thyme because we believed in it and we knew that this was a business that was missing in Jamaica, but trying to convince the bank, well that was another story," Ferguson said. more

‘Smart casual’ rings death knell for formal business suits in UK

London, May 27: The number of UK employers wanting their staff to be dress in formal attire on a daily basis has significantly decreased in the last four years, according to a survey.

While 37 per cent of the companies were found to require their staff to wear a suit at all times in a survey four years ago, the number has now dropped down to 24 per cent.

The new findings represent a sharp shift in the employers' attitudes.

The survey showed that most of the present-day companies allowed office workers to wear less formal clothes, with a suit required only for meetings.

However, two thirds of the workers who were allowed to dress down at work disagreed with the idea.

"Most employees take their professional image at work very seriously and will dress smartly by choice," the Telegraph quoted Prof Khalid Aziz, the head of training company the Aziz Corporation which carried out the research, as saying. more

Channel 4 Radio is in talks with electronics manufacturers to create a branded plug-in DAB device that would enable mobile phone and iPod users to access digital radio. The news comes as the broadcaster prepares to launch digital station E4 Radio later this year. It is keen to develop an E4 or Channel 4-branded device that would cost no more than 20 pounds, sources said. The development comes as DAB radio take-up has been slow, with only 6.5 million digital radio sets in use compared to 100 million analogue sets. DAB suffered a setback in February as a result of the announcement of the planned departure of GCap (GCAP.L: Quote, Profile, Research), Britain's largest commercial radio group, from digital radio. Enders Analysis suggested in a recent report that DAB could become the new Betamax.

i was wondering, in your opinion, do you think it would be a good idea to setup a music recording studio as a business? right now im in college for a criminal justice degree and plan on making a career in law enforcement, but ive always been very musically inclined and just passionate about music in general. Dont get me wrong, i dont plan on abandoning my current carreer path (as a matter of fact i plan on doing both if the money and time is there) and i have no illusions about how hard it is to be successful in the music industry and how artist make money (what little there is left to be made). i myself am a musician and make my own music. after hours of editing and sampling, etc, etc, i find that i actually enjoy the process of producing a record itself. so naturally i want to possibly explore the possibilties of setting up my own studio (perhaps one day a label). im prepared to invest as much money as necessary to do this, i estimate it would take at the least a 10-15 grande investment (not including leased office space, and yes i know what i will need to set up a studio). i live pretty close to raleigh north carolina and beleive i would probably set up somewhere in the research triangle. i also plan on being the sole employee / owner (maybe hire 1 or 2 people if i make money) what i want to know is, how hard is it for a recording studio to make money? would it be hard to attract business in the raleigh area? and how much do music studios typically charge to work with artist? I'm thinking about selling mark. cosmetics. I'm 19 years old and attending college for a degree in business management. I understand I will not make a living and I don't plan on selling mark. to make a great deal of money, I just think it will be fun and something my friends and classmates will be interesting in buying and love. I'm very concerned with giving them my credit card number but I understand it is necessary, so my first question is what exactly do they charge your credit card for? I am aware of the $20 start up fee, and the orders that are placed will obviously be charged on my card as well, but what else is there? How much is shipping for the products and do I have to pay for that as well? To my understanding, there isn't a monthly amount of orders I have to place, correct? A lot of things I am reading online is that people order a large amount of product expecting it to sell and then are stuck with the extra and can not return it. Would it be reasonable to only order product when there is a request from a customer? I understand I'll have to buy product for myself and for sampling purposes so they can see it on someone, but other than that I don't see why I should have to order large sums to sell with out people ordering it in the first place. Ok it's me and my sister.(our names are Meagan and Darcey..I'm Meagan...lol) We make and sell chocolate covered marshmallows on a stick.I know, it sounds simple but they are so good and everyone who I let "sample" one MUST have another lol. I even have an order for a baby shower. I'm flooded with requests!! We also make little chocolate lollipops. and chocolate covered rice krispies and cookies. I'll explain the process to you a bit..the marshmallows go on the stick ( 3 for a small 5 for a large) they get dipped in warm chocolate rolled in a topping ( we have tons of different kinds. from oreos to coconut from gummi bears to m n m's) The chocolate also gets flavored ( raspberry,strawberry,butterscotch..so on and so forth.) The pitbull rushed me, and it jumped at me and it was gunna like bite my face off, but me and Jane had a plan, Jane hit the pitbull with the burning end of the branch, and it fell and she held the burning end of the branch to the pitbulls stomach, and its hair burned, then she held it to its bare stomach and then she held it on its legs and it couldnt move. So i thought we could leave it, by morning its owner would find it, but Jane said it has their scent and it will come after us. WTF. She said she needs to promptly execute it without making a mess. I kept saying DONT KILL IT! And she said we have to or it will come after us. She rolled it over and grabbed it by the head and tried to bend its neck sideways to snap its neck, but it didnt work and it tried to bit her. It still couldnt move. then she grabbed it by the legs and dragged it and she needs to kill it without making a mess. So literally dug a hole in the ground with a branch, the soil was wet, she made a big hole then kicked the pitbull in, she closed the hole, then dropped a BIG rock on where she buried it so it couldnt get out. And when it rains, the soil will move and there will be a dead corpse there... great... Ok, was it right for her to kill it? Like hello, it was after us and it was gonna kill us, so she hit it with the torch, we could have left but she buried it. ALSOO... I do feel kind of bad, do you think if I go there today and dig up the body, there is a chance it MIGHT be alive? more

Resolved Question: Why should illegals not legals be allowed care under the health care program?

This is in the plan. Can someone show me how Obama is going to make a profit on this plan? Do you believe those 80% who have health care through their employer will be able to keep their plan? Why won't Obama put a cap on malpractice fees and suits that will not win in a court of law? Do you believe affirmative action in the health field will yield better doctors? Why won't congress take on the same program is it because they are aware how bad it is and will be? Why is England and Canada returning back to the private insurance instead of public health and Obama is trying to push the same bad medicine on America? Why can't Obama see how bad the American Indians on the reservations are treated with social medicine and in the U.S. territories in the U.S. V.I. where I have practiced medicine and have seen first hand what chaos lies ahead? Who benefits from this plan? Please don't say the unemployed that is why we have medicaid. Why can't we shop in other states for insurance in order to have insurance compete and lower premiums? Hello guys, OK, so over the summer I interned for a company that sold advertisements for businesses. Commissions are based on sales and our sales go on our personal records. Before my internship was over I signed a business to a contract for advertising space. The business already had an outstanding balance from the year before because the company had messed up on their advertising because the business did not sign off on the artwork and were still getting billed for it. I talked to my regional manager about it and he said he would check with his customer relation manager in to see if we could still sign them up. He said we could sign them and waive their past fees if they got a specified amount of advertising space. I signed them with a payment plan of 6 months that was authorized by my regional manager with a 10% deposit up front. Just today the business called me and told me that the regional manager had come in and tried to collect more money from the business because apparently they needed more money before my intern company could waive the fees. The business called me and told me that I was professional and a good person but they wanted to cancel the contract because the original contract had stated they could pay in 6 months and all past fees would be deducted. However since my regional manager wanted to collect more they were unhappy with it and they still didn't get their sample artwork in the mail after I called headquarters many times to see if they received the artwork because I mailed it in myself with the other checks but no one knew about it but they received the checks. I promised the business I would try to refund their money if I couldn't work things out with hq. Anyways today I called the customer relations manager and I asked her to explain what was going on and that I was a little upset because I was told one thing and that we were screwing the business over. She explained it to me and I kept trying to see if there was a way around it that we could work something out with the business. Finally, I asked her about the artwork that I submitted because obviously hq was in another state and I just stated that we needed that because we would be making the same mistake again like last year if we didn't submit them the artwork to sign off on because the business was unhappy again that they didn't receive any artwork for this upcoming year. At this point she told me I was out of control and that I was being rude and that my regional manager who is below her would talk to me. Was I being out line? I just wanted to know how to explain to the business what happened. My regional manager called me today with a pissed off voice mail message saying to call him back. I'm really upset about this because I was trying to handle the situation even though my internship was officially over. Should I feel upset. Also, can the company say bad things about me when I use them for a reference? Before the internship was over the regional manager and the divisional manager said if I needed a letter of recommendation they would be more than happy to write me a positive one. more

I am creating a business plan for a project in one of my management classes. My idea is a wine store. In this store, there would be both domestic and imported wines from around the world. So, my goal would be to offer a greater selection than the average beer/wine store offers. Also, in this store, I can include things that go well with wine such as different cheeses (there are many) and fruits, a huge selection of accessories, as well as a wine gift selection, and equipment rental. I can offer occasional wine sampling, too.... So, it would be more like a one-stop wine outlet store that offers things for many people and occasions.
