Business Plan Outline Questions asked

Resolved Question: What motivated Kucinich to flip his vote on health care?

But Mr. Kucinich, who accepted a ride on Air Force One when the President visited his district on Monday, conceded that he might have been "in a position of casting a deciding vote." Voting his conscience was a principle even he couldn't abide by if it meant killing Mr. Obama's initiative, and perhaps irrevocably comprising his presidency. "I still have doubts about the bill. I do not think it is a first step toward anything I have supported in the past," Mr. Kucinich insisted. But, he later added, "we have to very careful that the potential of President Obama's presidency not be destroyed." http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/commentary/dennis-no-longer-a-menace-to-obamas-bill/article1504150/ ------------------------------------------ So why the flip ? Threats and or bribery come to mind --- should it or is that out of the question ? Mandating people pay for a service out of pocket within a set market of known suppliers---- isn't that part of the bill or was that removed? The only apparent movement has been to force insurance companies to accept pre existing conditions --- but this says nothing as to making persons with pre existing conditions from being economically excluded by raising premiums --- or does it outline a long term plan to combat such normal and historic moves of unrestrained industry ? What motivated Kucinich to flip ? Resolved Question: Will the opposition do nothing as the speech from the Throne outlines foriegners buying our businesses?

1 hour, 34 minutes ago By Jennifer Ditchburn, The Canadian Press ADVERTISEMENT OTTAWA - Prime Minister Stephen Harper is fashioning himself Canada's top frugalista with a throne speech meant to impress with style, yet cost little at the cash register. Aside from some new low-cost accessories - such as loosening of foreign investment rules and more help for single parents - the rest of the wardrobe is a retailoring of previous Conservative priorities. The agenda "recalibration" the Tories promised when Harper controversially shut down Parliament in late December consists mainly of a more restrained spending plan that will shape Thursday's federal budget. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/100303/national/throne_speech Foriegn investment --- yeah -- No thanks --- the rules we have keeping foriegners out need to be tightened not let go of The PM is about to throw the reigns away Can we count on the Liberal NDP and Bloc to be sitting on their hands for the vote on a confidence matter ( All throne speeches are confidence votes) more

Resolved Question: Story plot comments/ideas from girl/boy perspective?

I'm working on a story and I have like the outline/plans for the first few parts but I'm wanting to get some other views to the story. So here's the summary: The story starts with a short flashback of the main girl, who is in 9th grade, carefree, and not really that "proper" and lives with her father and stepmother. Her bestfriend, who's a guy, and her are from big business families, and their parents planned when they were young for them to marry when they got older. The girl and the guy really liked each other and were happy to go along with it and they both dreamt of becoming famous singers together, but their families are expecting them to take over the companies together. But the guy's family let him have a choice and he chose not to take over the company, so the girls family called off the arrangement. Before they could tell the girl, she gets in an accident with her father and loses her memory. Her father also dies. The rest of the story takes place 3 years after the accident and she had been raised by her controlling stepmother who "retaught" her to be more "proper" and basically controlled everything. During the 3 yr gap the stepmother didnt allow the girls friends to see her, especially her guy friend, and she didnt tell her that she wasnt her real mother. Were the story picks up after the 3 years, the girl works at the family hotel and has no knowledge of her old self and dreams. But then her guy friend re-enters her life, and he still likes her but she doesnt remember him. During those 3 yrs he had been working to get into the singing business and was coming to be well known. So as the story progresses, he tries to help her remember who she was and she starts liking him again, but all she knows is what her stepmother told her and how she was raised, which makes her unsure about her "new" feeling toward the guy and life. As the story continues, more people from her past enter, not all of them good, and new people enter her life and she slowly starts to become who she once was but is still held back by the only life she can remember which is controlled by her stepmother. Sorry if it's long and not worded right, i'm kinda tired. Anyway leave comments or ideas, and what you would do in that situation if you were the girl/boy and how would you feel. Also, the setting is in Japan, but I may change it. The girl does make new friends after she loses her memory. The stepmother is controlling because she always put business first and never did anything she felt like because she was afraid of failing and thought that success was everything. more

Voting Question: How do you guys feel about IVOB? Penny stock now? But....?

But they just hit the news! INVO Bioscience, Inc. (OTCBB: IVOB), a medical device company focused on treatment options for patients diagnosed with infertility, announces that the US National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) has approved a 100 patient study being conducted by Galaxy IVF in three INVO centers in Pakistan. The purpose of the study is to evaluate a low cost stimulation protocol combined with INVO to make an IVF affordable procedure available across the large infertile/sub-fertile population. The study will use a minimum ovarian stimulation protocol with the primary endpoint being number of follicles obtained and the fertilization rate. The secondary endpoints will be pregnancy rate and cost of treatment. Recruitment has begun for the study and Dr. Ranoux will be attending the first INVO cycles at each of the clinical sites. Galaxy IVF has discontinued the original study started in the IVF center in Lahore because of major protocol violations by the site. The new study will be performed in INVO centers that have been trained and have already performed INVO cycles per the protocols outlined in the INVOcell Instructions for Use. This additional data will support the widespread acceptance of the INVO in the Middle East. The approved protocol can be reviewed at the NIH site link: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01058252?term=Galaxy+Pharma&rank=1 or the WHO site link: http://apps.who.int/trialsearch/Trial.aspx?TrialID=NCT01058252 About INVO Bioscience INVO Bioscience (IVOB) is a medical device company, headquartered in Beverly, Massachusetts, focused on creating simplified, lower cost treatment options for patients diagnosed with infertility. Resolved Question: ever wonder why Canada's foreclosure rate is less than .5%? will the US ever learn?

Our neighbors to the north are just about the only developed nation that did not have a housing and credit crunch. What's been their key to averting disaster? Were they just lucky?? No, they simply followed basic fundamentals. For example, Canada requires that their banks have meaningful capital to deal with emergencies -- unlike our banks. In addition, their financial institutions are not permitted to make crazy 30:1 bets with leveraged money like we had AIG, Bear Stearns and Merrill Lynch doing. On the question of mortgages, Canada requires that homebuyers have a 30 percent down-payment. And you either must have the financial wherewithal to afford your monthly payment or you don't get the loan. As a result, their default rate has been less than one percent even in the midst of a worldwide housing meltdown. Canada's banks never lowered their lending standards like ours did, either. Our banks got to the point where they didn't care if you could pay your mortgage or not. Why? They simply packaged your mortgage with others into securities and sold them off, making their money that way. The Canadian lenders, however, never unloaded their mortgages en masse, so they had extra incentive to make sure they didn't make foolish loans. In related news, the British have a great idea about requiring banks to draw up a living will that outlines an insolvency plan at no cost to taxpayers. Clark would love to see this in the United States. If banks fail to detail their exit strategy, they should get the immediate death penalty: A ban on any new business transactions; loss of FDIC insurance; and their stockholders should be completely wiped out. And what's more, it's easy to point fingers at the politicians and the business sector and blame them, however it's more accurate to point fingers at those who bought properties they knew they couldn't afford. Are you going to blame the dope dealers or the dopes who smoke it? more

Resolved Question: What do you think of Gregg (R-NH) telling Obama's budget director "You don't appear to understand the law!"?

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0210/32616.html In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama proposed using $30 billion in bailout funds for small-business lending. He later repeated the idea in Nashua, N.H. Both times, Obama said he would use bailout funds that were “repaid” to the government by financial firms — conjuring up the politically appealing image of taking money from a chastened Wall Street and sending it straight to Main Street. But Obama’s description didn’t give an accurate picture of how he plans to pay for the new program. And his comments sowed controversy and confusion on Capitol Hill....................The program as “originally outlined” was “totally inconsistent with the law,” Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.) said in an interview with POLITICO. Earlier this week, Gregg accused Obama of trying to create a “slush fund” from the repaid TARP cash. And he tore into White House budget chief Peter Orszag based on the description that repaid TARP dollars would be used to fund it. “You don't appear to understand the law! The law is very clear!” Gregg told Orszag during a hearing on the administration’s budget. He went on to read the TARP law to Orszag: “ ‘The monies recouped from the TARP shall be paid into the general fund of the treasury for the reduction of the public debt.’ It's not for a piggy bank because you're concerned about lending to small businesses… This money is to reduce the debt of our children!” more

Resolved Question: Can one accomplish a lot by being hard-working but not overly brilliant?

I've always had big dreams and plans, and usually I succeed in achieving any goals I set for myself. Most people remark about how I am so driven, etc. Yes, I get excellent grades, and even in the subjects I'm not exceptionally gifted at, I do well. I challenge myself, yet sometimes I find that I have to work harder than others. The fact is, I'm not brilliant, more like your average individual who works, works, works, sometimes sacrificing social life. I'm just someone who loves the spotlight, and overall would like to distinguish myself with some significant contribution to society. (Haha, make up for the unenjoyable high school life I've had, with backstabbing friends, etc) For example, I'm in my last year of high school, am very attractive, and have never even had a boyfriend. And besides, so many guys are intimidated by me, plus I set such high standards. Also though, I haven't met anyone I really connect well to. Anyways, I have all these ambitions in business, possibly branching out into media, corporate law, graduate school at an ivy league and such. I set such high standards, but I hope to stand out from the crowd and in the end, realise all these high expectations I've outlined for myself... more

Resolved Question: Why can't we have tougher laws against illegals that kill Americans while driving under the influence?

Ball on reforming parole guidelines January21From state Assemblyman Greg Ball, R-Patterson: IN LIGHT OF DONOHUE SENTENCING, BALL AIMS TO REFORM STATE’S PAROLE GUIDELINES Following the sentencing of Conses Garcia-Zacarias earlier this week, Assemblyman Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) has pledged to reform the state’s parole guidelines and to renew his call that state lawmakers immediately take action to enact a “zero tolerance” for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) law statewide. Ball is the main sponsor of such legislation, which he drafted in response to the death of Lori and Kayla Donohue, the Brewster mother and daughter who were killed by Garcia-Zacarias, an illegal alien who was driving while intoxicated. “Regretfully, the current maximum sentence of 8? years to 25 years is not enough. And sadly, with our state’s current parole guidelines, this killer could be released in one-sixth of that time. Idiotically, corrections Law 803, Section 2, Subsection A outlines the maximum parole for convicts serving concurrent sentences is one-sixth the minimum sentence and one-third the minimum sentence for those serving consecutive sentences. This is despicable and insensitive in this case and a perfect case of New York’s revolving door justice. This is exactly why the crime of DWI continues to pervade our community. The victims of DWI deserve better than that, our community deserves better than that, and I am determined not only to heighten sentences for those who choose to get behind the wheel drunk and murder others, but to reform our state’s broken parole system as well,” said Ball. Ball now is taking a hard look at the state’s parole guidelines and aiming to heighten them. He stated, “We need to move forward aggressively and intelligently at the local level to make Putnam safer in the wake of this tragedy. This was no accident and could have been prevented. Now, elected officials must do everything in our power to keep residents safe.” On June 8, 2010 2009 both Assemblyman Ball and the entire Brewster community were shocked to the core when Garcia-Zacarias drove drunk into the 8-year-old second grader and her mother as they were leaving the Seven Stars School of Performing Arts. Garcia-Zacarias had a blood-alcohol level of twice the legal limit and no driver’s license. Following the devastating tragedy, Ball vowed to reform the state and county DWI laws and formed a coalition of state and local lawmakers, law enforcement and business owners who all aimed to finally curb the high instances of DWIs in the Hudson Valley and prevent deaths like these from happening again. Last summer, Ball announced the coalition’s plan, which included agreements to implement a designated driver program, creation of a Task Force on DWI through the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office, implementation of mandatory countywide TIPS-certified training for bar owners and employees and a public awareness campaign, as well as strengthening countywide DWI laws to include mandatory ignition interlocks, SCRAM bracelets and vehicle seizure. On a state level, Ball authored and introduced the toughest DWI legislation in the nation. His statewide bill would heighten all penalties for driving under the influence or DWIs. Ball is in the process of further strengthening the bill to include the strictest possible sentences for those who kill someone while driving under the influence. While Albany agreed to heighten some penalties through the enactment of Leandra’s Law (with Ball’s support) in November, which increases penalties for those who drive drunk with children in the car, a zero-tolerance statewide law was not put on the books. In 2007, Ball also voted to enact Katie Flynn’s Law, which created the crimes of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, a class B felony and Aggravated Vehicular Assault, a class C felony. “I support Assemblyman Ball’s initiative to tighten parole laws to help ensure offenders, who continue to pose a danger, do not obtain early release from prison. Justice demands that someone who takes a life while committing a crime, must pay his debt to society,” Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith said. “The closing of loopholes in New York sentencing guidelines is necessary. This illegal alien criminal, by actions of his own choosing, took the lives of two of our neighbors and friends. The DWI aspects of these deaths are only half of the story; sadly, the problem of criminal activity among the illegal alien population in our area can only be addressed when our elected officials recognize the scope of the problem and address it in a uniform, consistent way. This means enforcing existing laws and fully prosecuting those individuals who employ illegal aliens,” Ed Kowalski of 9/11 Families for a Secure America said. Ball stated, “We need to do everything in our power to keep residents safe. That is the most important priority state lawmakers have. What good are tough punishments when our more

Details: In a case of two parties, where party A asks party B to help party A's business get out of debt. Party A arranged a meeting with party B, where details were dicussed and a rescue plan was outlined to part B. The rescue plan states (orally) that it is necessary for party B to commit to a 12 month period (due to party B owning a succesful business). Party B decides 8 months into the contract to leave the country, thus breaching the contract. THE CATCH: party A and B are both sisters. Party A's business is family owned (inherited from parents) Party B is individually owned. Also the contract was verbally done, no paper work was signed! The scenario will be played out in a mock trial: plantiffs v defendants (I'am playing the plaintiffs, supporting Party A) How can I prove that there was indeed a contract fromed? what elements show this? can u suggest any cases or doctrines? Resolved Question: Is it possible to spend your way out of a recession, as obama said?

New Obama plans: 'spend our way out' of downturn By PHILIP ELLIOTT, Associated Press Writer Philip Elliott, Associated Press Writer 2 mins ago WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama outlined new multibillion-dollar stimulus and jobs proposals Tuesday, saying the nation must continue to "spend our way out of this recession" until more Americans are back at work. Without giving a price tag, Obama proposed a package of new spending for highway, bridge and other infrastructure projects, deeper tax breaks for small businesses and tax incentives to encourage people to make their homes more energy efficient. "We avoided the depression many feared," Obama said in a speech at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank. But, he added, "Our work is far from done." For the third time in a week, Obama sought to focus on job creation, noting that the unemployment rate was still at 10 percent in November, though down slightly from its 10.2 percent peak. He said "a staggering" 7 million Americans have lost jobs since the recession began two years ago. While his proposal did not include the kind of direct federal public works jobs that were created in the 1930s, he said government could set the stage for more job creation by private businesses. A major part of his package is new incentives for small businesses, which account for two-thirds of the nation's work force. He proposed a new tax cut for small businesses that hire in 2010 and an elimination for one year of the capital gains tax on profits from small-business investments. Obama also proposed an elimination of fees on loans to small businesses, coupled with federal guarantees of those loans through the end of next year. He called for more government spending on infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges and water projects and for new tax breaks for consumers who invest in energy-efficient retrofits in their homes. This could be what some administration officials have called a "Cash for Caulkers" program modeled on the now-expired Cash for Clunkers program of tax rebates for people who turned in old cars for more fuel-efficient models. The administration also is eyeing ways to get money still not spent in the $787 billion stimulus bill passed last winter into projects more quickly. Obama did not characterize his new proposals as another stimulus program like that mammoth measure, but Republican critics have called it just that and have said it will increase a federal deficit that is already at a record level. Obama included sharp criticism for Republicans in his speech, accusing them of opposing economic stimulus efforts and his health care overhaul while supporting tax cuts and spending that have ballooned the deficit. He said that soon after taking office, he and congressional Democrats took "a series of difficult steps" to try to stabilize the financial system and pull the economy out of a deep recession. "And we were forced to take those steps largely without the help of an opposition party which, unfortunately, after having presided over the decision-making that led to the crisis, decided to hand it to others to solve." Obama did not say how much his proposals would cost, although congressional Democrats are eyeing a $70 billion package to help create jobs and to provide aid to hard-pressed state and local governments. Administration aides suggested that the part of the package dealing with roads, bridges and other infrastructure could total about $50 billion. While acknowledging increasing concerns in Congress and among the public over the nation's growing debt, Obama said critics present a "false choice" between paying down deficits and investing in job creation and economic growth. To pay for the new programs, the administration is citing the Treasury Department's report on Monday that it expects to get back $200 billion in taxpayer-approved bank bailout funds faster than expected. Obama suggested this windfall would both help the government spend money on job creation while also paying down the nation's debt, which now totals $12 trillion. Obama called the bank bailout, under the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), "galling." "There has rarely been a less loved — or more necessary — emergency program," Obama said. The program is expected to go out of business at the end of this year unless extended by Congress. Since the program is costing taxpayers at least $200 billion less than expected, Obama said, "This gives us a chance to pay down the deficit faster than we thought possible and to shift funds that would have gone to help the banks on Wall Street to help create jobs on Main Street." But Republicans continued to insist that the leftover and repaid TARP money must be used exclusively for deficit reduction and not for a new jobs program. "The president's announcement is further proof that TARP has morphed from an emergency injection of liquidity to thaw frozen credit markets i more

Resolved Question: is it possible to hire a professional to write my entire business plan for me?

I own a restaurant business and pretty much work from 8am-10pm every day 7 days a week. My bank has requested that i submit a business plan so that I can acquire additional funds (loan) to keep expand / keep things operating smoothly. I have sat down and tried to tackle this by getting books that provide outlines and also by using resources online. I am getting more and more confused and need to just hire someone who professionalizes in this sort of thing. Can any one recommend someone to me? more

Resolved Question: Why is Obama ONLY inviting liberal organizations and big money donors to his "job summit"?

I would think he would want the ones who actually make jobs there; I guess Obama plans on taxing our way into jobs. Facing rising unemployment rates and having seen uncertain results from the stimulus bill, President Obama is hosting a "jobs summit" at the White House Thursday that will be packed with business leaders and economists supportive of White House policies but lacks a diversity of opinion, several analysts say. Missing from a partial list of attendees released by the White House are the self-proclaimed voices of business - the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Business - both of which have been critical of Mr. Obama's proposed health care overhaul. Confirmed attendees include liberal economists credited with shaping the $787 billion stimulus package, union leaders, environmental advocates and executives from Google and other blue-chip firms. My chief concern is that the list features no serious and prominent labor economist, which seems essential to offering a sound, long-run policy to put us on a path of lower unemployment," said John Coleman, an economics professor at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. Representatives from NFIB and the Chamber of Commerce said their organizations were not asked to attend, but representatives from some of the country's largest unions, Change to Win and the United Steelworkers, will participate. In an open letter to Mr. Obama on Tuesday, Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue outlined a series of proposals to stimulate job growth, including eliminating protectionist trade barriers, reducing the deficit and eliminating unnecessary regulation more

Resolved Question: Could You Suggest an Alternative Healthcare Bill 10% the Size of the Present One?

The present bill spends $1 Trillion per year for the next 10 years. What, if anything could be done for healthcare for a mere $100 Billion per year of the next 10 years? Here's one possible outline, but I would like to hear yours: 1) Spend $75 Billion per year for the next 10 years on Primary Care clinics managed by the Red Cross near the emergency room entrances of 2500 hospitals in USA. These clinics would be staffed by 3 physicians each (paid $166,000) per year and 10 Red Cross Volunteers (paid in refundable tax credits at $100/day), and one or two Pharmacists, or PA's to dispense prescription meds from the on-site pharmacy. Security would be handled by Kroll or Blackwater or Pinkerton's or somebody like that on a roving and on-call short notice basis, so one security team could cover 4 or 5 clinics in a big city. The cost of renting the office space and the cost of the medications, and disposables, and tests, and electric, and water would be additonal costs. 2500 clinics, fully staffed and supplied for $75 Billion per year, and this includes the Red Cross's fees for management of the system. Since this is government provided health care on a good samaritan basis with no charge to the patient, there is triple legal immunity (soveriegn, samaritan, and charitable). The patient don't get to sue. But they do get some healthcare -- maybe not the Cadillac coverage but real good Primary Care -- which is crucial because it cures and it also prevents. The meds can be acquired through a piggyback order on the VA's annual order, thereby getting an even bigger price break, maybe as good as Canada gets! 2) Now there's $25 Billion per year left to play with, how should that be used? Here's how: Use about $20 Billion to re-organize health insurance so that all insurors can offer coverage in all states, or most. Do not force insurors to insure people with pre-existing conditions. Let them run their insurance business along the regular lines and practices of insurance in the various states. In Maryland, we have a high risk pool, and all companies that sell insurance here must take a certain percentage of cases assigned out of the Maryland resident high risk pool. This amounts to a bearable not an unbearable burden for all the firms. The other $5 Billion would be used for Tort Reform. Getting a Federal standard for damages in medical malpractice cases, and then forcing those cases into the Federal Courts, so that trial lawyers couldn't suck the blood out of the solvency of the practice of medicine as they are doing now (author = member of ATLA -- the people I'm talking about = me). Once tort reform is well begun, there needs to be more careful and frequent Board Certification of physicians. The doctors have to get a lot better if they are to be freed from oppressive lawsuits. They get better by closer regulation instead of by being terrorized and made examples of by sharky lawyers. This would cause all medical fees to go down. Less insurance costs means better priced services for patients. This is one 10% Plan that I think would work 1000 times better than the Obama/Pelosi/Reid huge Break the Bank Megaplan. But I want to hear your 10% plan -- Here's $100 Billion per year for 10 years, how would you spend it? Is there anybody health in USA that could be made better with that kind of money? How would you do it? To get the $100 Billion, just close down one of our wars Iraq, Afghanistan, take your pick, it doesn't matter, closing down either one would save $100 Billion easy. So, here's the money, what the plan Boss?Comments for Serge and Warren: Serge -- Herculean effort -- your post is substantive and good. Too socialist for me -- whenever the word humane is used I always check to see if my wallet is still there. Here's what I don't object to -- your 3% healthcare tax on all payroll including the super-earners. Good, that's fine. Your idea of training more healthcare workers by subsidizing tuition -- farsighted -- good idea. Don't like the idea of putting everybody on Medicare. How is that fair? Some people have earned Medicare by 25 years of work and paying FICA, some have not. Warren: Good ideas -- it looks like the GOP list. There's a possibility that the debate will result in an amendment that substitutes a much smaller and simpler bill for the present 2000 page monstrosity. Tort reform, and insurance across state lines are the biggies. But there must not be a requirement to insure people with pre-existing conditions -- that is not insurance -- it's just welfare -- it's a freebie! more

Resolved Question: Do you Expect a 3rd Party or Independent to run in 2012 for President?

Both of the established parties appear to have bankrupted themselves. The GOP because of G.W. Bush. The Dems because of Obama. Is there a strong possibility that both of these parties will nominate highly unappealing persons to run for the Presidency in 2012? And, if they do, would that create an opening for a quiet competent non-ideologue to step in as an Independent and win the election? Assume that Obama continues his downward spiral into Marxism and his close association with ACORN. Assume that he continues to be hapless and incompetent in dealing with America's problems. Assume that the GOP goes right off the deep end and winds up with a Huckabee-Palin ticket, or a weak ticket caused by concessions that the candidate has made to the social/religious extreme right wing of the party. So there may be a good person on the ticket but with very bad promises made to get on the ticket. Assume that some clearly capable business or ex-military leaders would like to be President, have the money to run, and have serious things to say to a nation fatigued with meaningless squabbles between left/right ideologues in Washington DC. Assume that the Independent ticket has a woman on it. Assume that a lot of private money is made available, including PAC money from the "Independent for President" movement, and lots of soft advertising supportive of the idea of bypassing both major parties. Assume the Independent articulates clear, clean, simple policies that people can understand, and which seem to be in the interests, and which seem to be do-able and work-able. Beyond that, the Independent outlines a legislative plan that specifies how the policies will be pursued in legislation -- who the expected allies will be -- how the project will be paid for, and how it will help the people it is designed to help. Beyond that the Independent has an Executive Agencies plan which states what can be done by Executive Order (without the help of Congress), acting through the DOD and the various agencies. The candidate can say, without obfuscation, who would be helped, how they would be helped, when this would happen, and what it would cost. This comes across to the voters as a promise -- this is how I plan to use the power of my office in my first 100 days -- I promise. The words come from a person who has always been good on their promises, and there are no internal contradictions that would make the promises impossible to keep. Imagine You say you don't see the candidate, right there on your screen. I say, I know, that's why I'm asking you to imagine. Keep in mind that Ross Perot got almost 30% of the vote in many places. So an Independent candidate is not completely out of the question in modern times. Keep in mind that Sarah Palin may run as an independent spoiler candidate destroying the chances of Pawlenty, or Jindal, or Romney. Keep in mind that Obama might easily become extremely unpopular if the war in Afghanistan gets more sour and then more sour, and if the US economy gets more sour and more sour. Obama could start to look like a man that needs replacing. Even Dems might split off to vote for a plainly competent Independent who has ideas that would work. more

Resolved Question: Are you telling me that banks do not use the $3 trillion+ that has been created over the last couple of years?

Following up on a previous question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqQtrveo5p.u4dj2cjha3fTsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090827151157AAnjiCc I have trouble believing that that american banks use only deposits to lend as per the "fractional reserve banking" thesis. When the benchmark interest rate is near 0% like it has been this year, I think it means they are lending printed money. So to repeat my argument, it makes no sense to borrow money that was created for the sole purpose of making banks money. You might as well give the money and cut out the bank, because they aren't taking on any risk at 0%. Oh, and don't tell me I'm confused, the system was created to confuse people very deliberately. See this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/17/business/economy/17fed.html and in particular: "The Fed has already announced or outlined a range of unorthodox new tools that it can use to keep stimulating the economy once the federal funds rate effectively reaches zero. On Tuesday, Fed officials said they stood ready to expand them or create new ones to relieve bottlenecks in the credit markets. All of the tools involve borrowing by the Fed, which amounts to printing money in vast new quantities, a process the Fed has already started. Since September, the Fed’s balance sheet has ballooned from about $900 billion to more than $2 trillion as it has created money and lent it out. As soon as the Fed completes its plans to buy mortgage-backed debt and consumer debt, the balance sheet will be up to about $3 trillion." Doesn't this article clearly state that the FED created money and "lent it out"? Where do you think all that money went? more

"We remain opposed to the current bill, and we continue to meet several times a day to decide how we're going to proceed and what amendments we will be offering as Blue Dogs on the committees," said Rep. Mike Ross, D-Arkansas. Ross said the bill unveiled Tuesday by House Democratic leaders did not address concerns he and other conservative Democrats outlined in a letter late last week to Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The conservative Democrats don't believe the legislation contains sufficient reforms to control costs in the health care system and believe additional savings can be found. Their letter to leaders raised concerns about new mandates on small businesses. Blue Dogs also say the bill fails to fix the inequities in the current system for health care costs for rural doctors and hospitals. more

Resolved Question: Obama supporters....is this really what you want to happen in our country?

I respect President Obama for his utopian dream of the perfect society where all are equal financially, all have good health care, healthy foods, clean air to breath etc. but.....don't people realize that in order to acheive this ideal it would mean that all reason to pursue excellence will be gone? Let me put it this way. Picture a teetor totter. On one end sits a guy that makes $500,000 a year. On the other end sit 50 people who make $10,000 a year i.e. welfare etc. Combined, the total dollars available would be one million. Under Obama's dream scenario, it would be necessary to divide that million 51 ways, increasing the low income people to $19,600 a year and reducing the rich guy also to $19,600 a year. Yes, abject poverty would be eliminated, but under these conditions, what would make that rich guy continue to strive for excellence? Why would he keep on busting his butt to succeed when he was not allowed to keep most of what he has made? And an even more important question is this: How is handing people something they have not earned going to affect them? Sure it will improve their current living conditions, but it will only make them more dependent on the government to take care of them also. It will not encourage excellence or effort. It will not give people the desire to get ahead by working hard and by being responsible. And this rich guy is the one who owns the companies where people can work. Is he going to be willing to keep it open when it means that he will earn no more than do his employees? And those who had been very poor, are they going to suddenly start investing in new businsses so more people can work? The answer to both questions is no. I know this is a simplistic way to look at things, but in reality, that is the only way this utopian dream of Obama's can be accomplished. And, he is determined to cram these socialist practices down the throats of the people because he believes this to be the ideal. No, the government won't own all the businesses...but through massive regulation (like cap and trade for example), the government will in effect be in control of them. I would appreciate you explaining to me how Obama's plans are going to work without creating the kind of society I have outlined. If you can, I will be more than happy to jump on the wagon. All of us would like to have all things for all people, but it just isn't realistic in this world. So what say you?I noticed that not a single individual who supports Obama ACTUALLY gave me reasons to change my thinking. As usual for liberals, they skirt the issues and call names instead. more

Voting Question: Anyone out there feel STUCK (in life)?? I DO... *sigh* Interested to hear MY interesting scenario?

Well here's my story in simple short phrases so it'll be an easy read: 24 yrs old. Married but separated. At least emotionally. Still living with him unfortunately. For sake of our beautiful 1 yr old. He's not abusive so don't worry. At least not physically. "Husband" works. I don't. Got a degree in Media Arts/Communications 2 yrs ago. Trouble finding job in the horrible NYC market. Ridiculous student loans that "husband" doesn't wanna pay anymore. Understandable. My dad is MAD b/c he co-signed though. Not good. Enormous & annoying pressure from husband & parents. To get a JOB. But i want a CAREER. But where do i start?? My life usually doesn't suck. It certainly does now. People around me try desperately to make sure it does. HELP. I wanna get out of this house/apt. Surely get away from the cancer that is my husband. Who doesn't really believe i can do anything. I need out of this tough spot in my life. Possibly out of this city. And ON to my career- The only REAL missing link in my life. Acting is my REAL passion. Though talented in music, the business is too sketchy for me (moral-wise). Sister is in it though. Anyway, where do i even begin? I need a plan. Or at least an outline. But i draw up nothing every time. Help...?? more

Resolved Question: Are the Pro Law Anti illegal aliens folks in trouble?

Obama, Congress prepare to take up immigration overhaul By William Douglas McClatchy Newspapers http://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics/AP/story/1112544.html The senator tapped to write it, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., gave his most detailed outline to date on what he intends to include in an immigration bill that he and congressional Democratic leaders say could be written and voted on this fall. Schumer's goal is to balance a get-tough approach to illegal immigration while still providing a path to citizenship for the nearly 12 million illegal immigrants who're already here. Schumer's immigration plan includes: * Acknowledging that illegal immigration is wrong and making a dramatic reduction in future illegal immigration a priority. * Bolstering infrastructure, technology and personnel along the U.S. border within a year of enactment. * Using a biometric-based employer verification system to "significantly diminish the job magnet that attracts illegal aliens to the United States." * Registering all illegal aliens inside the country upon enactment of the new law and having them "submit to a rigorous process of converting to legal status and earning a path to citizenship — or face imminent deportment." * Making reunification of families "a cornerstone value of our immigration system." * Encouraging immigration of the "world's best and brightest individuals" to the United States while discouraging businesses from using immigration laws to "obtain temporary and less-expensive foreign labor to replace capable American workers." ============================= This is the same old, same old, and if Schumer feels he can do this and if he actually does have the votes, are we in trouble? I think so.. more

Resolved Question: Is it legal to compare myself to my competitor?

Resolved Question: What sort of paper work would i need to travel with my cat to Paris then back to the UK?

What sort of paper work do I need to travel with my cat to Paris then back to the UK? Hey all, I will be traveling with my cat to Paris, France from Manchester, UK. I will be spending a year in Paris then I'm coming back to do my final year at uni. My cat has been fully vaccinated, dewormed, chipped, neutered and he already has his on passport with a rabies certificate that states that he is rabies-free. Now I phoned the people at defra.co.uk and asked them about the necessary documents and they responded that I wouldn't need an export or import apps in both the going and return. But I still feel like there's something missing ! He had his rabies blood test 3 months ago and they basically outlined that he would not be able to return to the UK until 6 months have passed since the blood test. I'm planning to leave in late August or maybe early September so it won't be a problem. Now I'm wondering would there be any problems if I traveled with my beloved cat back and forth to the UK ? What airline would you recommend ? I'm prepared to pay a 1st or Business Class ticket to ensure that my baby is safe with me in the cabin. Thanks for your answer. Really appreciate it ! x more

Resolved Question: Who owns a small business? Do you know you will be required to cover insurance for employees?

Individuals would be required to get coverage, either through an employer or government plan, or on their own. Employers would be required to provide coverage or pay the government a percentage of payroll. Individual subsidies for health insurance would be offered on a sliding scale to those earning up to four times the federal poverty level, or $88,200 for a family of four, according to the document. The Energy and Commerce plan broadly tracks with the health care proposals that Obama outlined during the campaign. But in several areas, it goes further than what the Senate is likely to approve. For example, while there appears to be support in the Senate for requiring individuals to get coverage, an employer requirement might not get through. more
