Stocks mixed after oil passes $130, inventories drop
High energy prices have been a source of anxiety for investors, as many retailers, banks and credit card companies have noticed consumers paring back spending on discretionary items, including clothing and jewelry, to buy necessities such as gasoline and groceries, which have been soaring in price.
Wall Street was also hesitant as it awaited minutes from the Federal Reserve's April 29-30 meeting, which should provide more insight into whether policymakers regard rising energy prices as a serious threat. The Fed cut its benchmark federal funds rate by a quarter-percentage point to 2 percent at that meeting, marking the seventh cut in an easing cycle that started in September. Its accompanying economic statement left open the possibility of an end to rate cuts.
In midmorning trading, the Dow Jones industrial average slipped 36.72, or 0.29 percent, to 12,791.96, after rising in earlier trading. more

Credit Suisse, which kicked off its wealth management business on Thursday says it is banking on its long term potential to drive the business although some would argue that it is a move coming too late in an already crowded market.
But Credit Suisse says it has done the homework and the business is a lucrative one. They estimate that households with bankable assets of over $1 million will rise from 120,000 today to 300,000 by 2012, thus taking the total bankable assets in India to more than $1 trillion.
Experts believe that a lot of this will get channeled into savings and then investments.
As the company launches the new business, Credit Suisse will also have to deal with headwinds from the volatile equity environment.
The Sensex is among the worst performing Asian markets so far this year and that could hurt businesses linked to equities. more

AIRLINE CONSOLIDATION STALLS, BUT STOCKS SURGE The leverage to jetfuel prices trumps the airline industry's plans to consolidate itself out of its problem-plagued fundamentals as surely as an inside straight beats a pair of dueces. The New York Times reported that US Airways (LCC) and the United Airlines operation of UAL (UAUA) broke off talks over a tie-up, unable to surmount the challenges represented by their respective labor forces. Consolidation had been expected to be one of the salves for the scalded industry. The failure to execute on what seemed like so obvious a step ordinarily would represent a drag on the stock. Not so Wednesday. With energy prices ticking back to the levels they were at going all the way back to the beginning of last week, investors are grabbing up airline stocks with both fists. more

Here is an article that I found on line that tells you if you should trust online articles or not. ARTICLE: When it comes to the internet, you know that there’s a lot of misleading, inaccurate or downright false information out there. By now, most of you have heard the advice, “Don’t trust everything you read.” But how can you tell what to trust and what not to? Here are some questions that you should get into the habit of asking whilst you’re reading anything (not just online): whether it’s a blog post, newspaper article, sales letter or brochure. What’s the Author’s Purpose? The most important question to ask, and one you should have in mind when you start to read, is “What’s the author’s purpose?” All writing has a purpose. It might be to: Entertain you – make you laugh Give you information Sell you something Encourage you to come back to a blog or magazine in future Build up the author’s reputation in his/her field Some purposes are inherently more trustworthy than others. For example, if the author is trying to give you information, or build her reputation, then the facts in the article are likely to be ones that the author at least believes are true. But if the author is trying to sell something, then read with caution. Who Is the Author? Even if the author’s purpose seems laudable, you’ll want to ask yourself who the author actually is. Have you ever heard of him? If so, is he an authority in his industry or field – or is he a suspected charlatan? For example, imagine an article entitled “How to Become a Lifecoach”. You should trust this if it was written by Tim Brownson, a qualified and practising lifecoach, who has an entertaining and informative blog. But if I had written the article, you definitely should take what I’ve written with a grain of salt. I’m a writer, not a coach, and I’ve never so much as read the “Dummy’s Guide to Lifecoaching”. Of course, as a professional writer, I sometimes do write on topics I don’t know much about. When I do this, I need to undertake a lot of research. So if you’re reading an article by an unknown writer, it’s especially important to ask the next couple of questions. Are Sources Cited? Does the author give you facts – especially statistics – without any evidence to back them up? In an entertaining piece, this might be fine (it doesn’t matter too much whether the numbers are right, so long as the article is funny). But if you’re reading an informative piece about the economy, and the author says, “Ten million people will be out of work by Christmas” – does she link to a particular source that backs this up? And just because you’ve heard a fact before doesn’t mean you should take it at face value. Have you ever read about the Harvard Goal Setting study? It’s an oft-cited example of why you should set written goals, which is usually referenced as first appearing in the book What They Don’t Teach You in the Harvard Business School, by Mark McCormack. This is how it goes (taken from Harvard Business School Story): In that year [1979], the students were asked, "Have you set clear, written goals for your future and made plans to accomplish them?" Only three percent of the graduates had written goals and plans; 13 percent had goals, but they were not in writing; and a whopping 84 percent had no specific goals at all. Ten years later, the members of the class were interviewed again, and the findings, while somewhat predictable, were nonetheless astonishing. The 13 percent of the class who had goals were earning, on average, twice as much as the 84 percent who had no goals at all. And what about the three percent who had clear, written goals? They were earning, on average, ten times as much as the other 97 percent put together. But a couple of weeks ago, I read Fact or Fiction? The Truth About The Harvard Written Goal Study on SidSavara.com. It was an eye-opener. Sid looked for the original study online, and found no evidence that the study ever existed, despite it being cited in numerous books and all over the web. There’s a very similar story about a Yale study in 1953 – which again, can’t be backed up. So just because a book is cited, don’t assume that the information in the book is necessarily accurate. Are Examples Included? Does the author write very abstract, high-level information, without any concrete details? The article might still be true but it’s not likely to be very useful to you. The most trustworthy articles won’t just include general principles or woolly statements, but will give examples too. And the best examples include specific figures or facts, or quotes from people who aren’t the author and who don’t have a vested interest. What do you trust more, “You could make loads as an online copywriter” or an article including several stories from different copywriters who are making over $50,000 a year? Does the Article Contradict Your Prior Knowledge? Finally, ask yourself whether the fFinally, ask yourself whether the facts in an article go against what you already know. If you read a sales letter for a new diet pill that claims you can “lose 20 lbs in a month”, you’ve got good reasons to be sceptical. Most people on a diet lose 1-2 lbs per week, and most diet pills are known to be notoriously ineffective and even dangerous (one, Acomplia, has recently been banned in the UK and was never approved for use in the US, due to its association with psychiatric problems). Any statements which seem “too good to be true” also fall into this category. You may not have prior knowledge of the exact area that the article is about, but you do know that most people don’t “make $$$ working from home” (or they’d all be doing it!) How do you figure out what to trust and what to ignore when you’re reading online – or when you’re reading books and newspapers? Which of the above tips do you think would help you most – or which would you like to add to the list? moreVoting Question: Want a good Presidential Nominee?
I am bold, educated, have worked blue collar and corporate jobs, and have run a small family business. I have strong family values, and a big heart. I am physically fit, under 40, and live a healthy lifestyle. Most importantly, my best assets are that I always listen, protect those around me, and I am respectful. I will guide from the middle and be conservative when the country needs to strengthen and save, and when we need change I will listen to all options and make them happen if the USA and the people are physically and financially able to do so. If I run for president, I will not take part in any fund raisers because I do not want a face or name to the contributors and their agendas. In fact, I will want to be separated from this so I can focus on the real issues. A list of contributions can be kept, but will only be revealed after I serve the country. With technology, we should not need millions of dollars, we need millions of people because we are connected though phones, or the internet. Also, I will appoint people that the American people can trust. Because if I trust, you are thinking about the people you represent, not personal agendas. Each year I am in office, I will have public performance appraisals to make sure the people agree. My Presidential mission would be to restore the economy, reform the government, guide by the constitution, and protect our great country. If 10,000 or more people are interested in supporting me and tell their friends, I will develop a detailed plan as a Presidential candidate in the next election. I will need the help of the people to make this happen because this is truly grassroots. I want to be the people's President. moreResolved Question: guidance in psychology course?

e's always been a devoted husband and father. Lately, he's been on many extended business trips and I have noticed certain subtle changes. e.g. He is more willing than before to leave the boys to my care and to their own devices whereas he used to plan their activities and guide them in their studies. We still have sex but it's less regular. He tells me he wants me to 'upgrade' my looks. He's 46 and I 48. Is he going to have an affair? Thanks everyone. I really need to take a hard look at the situation now. My life has been so stressful because I work and have to take care of my two boys that I really haven't had time to 'upgrade' my looks. It's really time to do something about it.Thanks everyone again. I see a lot of sensible advice. Up to half a year, my husband has been a family man. Of late, however, he's had to work as part of an international team to win a project bid. Last night, he told me that quite a few of them (men) are divorced and behave in a way that makes them unlikely to want another marriage. The company that he has kept on these business trips is worrying me. Also, being away for weeks frequently probably made him more detached from family life. I am such a dowdy person (albeit with a PhD). Never bothered much about looks. How do you like this? Be careful what you wish for and I encourage you to resist-and-purge!! Will you join me in resist-and-purge? What the government will require you to do: • Sec. 202 (p. 91-92) of the bill requires you to enroll in a "qualified plan." If you get your insurance at work, your employer will have a "grace period" to switch you to a "qualified plan," meaning a plan designed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. If you buy your own insurance, there's no grace period. You'll have to enroll in a qualified plan as soon as any term in your contract changes, such as the co-pay, deductible or benefit. • Sec. 224 (p. 118) provides that 18 months after the bill becomes law, the Secretary of Health and Human Services will decide what a "qualified plan" covers and how much you'll be legally required to pay for it. That's like a banker telling you to sign the loan agreement now, then filling in the interest rate and repayment terms 18 months later. View Full Image McCaughey2 Associated Press Protestors wave signs in front of the Capitol on Thursday. McCaughey2 McCaughey2 On Nov. 2, the Congressional Budget Office estimated what the plans will likely cost. An individual earning $44,000 before taxes who purchases his own insurance will have to pay a $5,300 premium and an estimated $2,000 in out-of-pocket expenses, for a total of $7,300 a year, which is 17% of his pre-tax income. A family earning $102,100 a year before taxes will have to pay a $15,000 premium plus an estimated $5,300 out-of-pocket, for a $20,300 total, or 20% of its pre-tax income. Individuals and families earning less than these amounts will be eligible for subsidies paid directly to their insurer. • Sec. 303 (pp. 167-168) makes it clear that, although the "qualified plan" is not yet designed, it will be of the "one size fits all" variety. The bill claims to offer choice—basic, enhanced and premium levels—but the benefits are the same. Only the co-pays and deductibles differ. You will have to enroll in the same plan, whether the government is paying for it or you and your employer are footing the bill. • Sec. 59b (pp. 297-299) says that when you file your taxes, you must include proof that you are in a qualified plan. If not, you will be fined thousands of dollars. Illegal immigrants are exempt from this requirement. • Sec. 412 (p. 272) says that employers must provide a "qualified plan" for their employees and pay 72.5% of the cost, and a smaller share of family coverage, or incur an 8% payroll tax. Small businesses, with payrolls from $500,000 to $750,000, are fined less. Eviscerating Medicare: In addition to reducing future Medicare funding by an estimated $500 billion, the bill fundamentally changes how Medicare pays doctors and hospitals, permitting the government to dictate treatment decisions. • Sec. 1302 (pp. 672-692) moves Medicare from a fee-for-service payment system, in which patients choose which doctors to see and doctors are paid for each service they provide, toward what's called a "medical home." The medical home is this decade's version of HMO-restrictions on care. A primary-care provider manages access to costly specialists and diagnostic tests for a flat monthly fee. The bill specifies that patients may have to settle for a nurse practitioner rather than a physician as the primary-care provider. Medical homes begin with demonstration projects, but the HHS secretary is authorized to "disseminate this approach rapidly on a national basis." A December 2008 Congressional Budget Office report noted that "medical homes" were likely to resemble the unpopular gatekeepers of 20 years ago if cost control was a priority. • Sec. 1114 (pp. 391-393) replaces physicians with physician assistants in overseeing care for hospice patients. • Secs. 1158-1160 (pp. 499-520) initiates programs to reduce payments for patient care to what it costs in the lowest cost regions of the country. This will reduce payments for care (and by implication the standard of care) for hospital patients in higher cost areas such as New York and Florida. • Sec. 1161 (pp. 520-545) cuts payments to Medicare Advantage plans (used by 20% of seniors). Advantage plans have warned this will result in reductions in optional benefits such as vision and dental care. • Sec. 1402 (p. 756) says that the results of comparative effectiveness research conducted by the government will be delivered to doctors electronically to guide their use of "medical items and services." Questionable Priorities: While the bill will slash Medicare funding, it will also direct billions of dollars to numerous inner-city social work and diversity programs with vague standards of accountability. • Sec. 399V (p. 1422) provides for grants to community "entities" with no required qualifications except having "documented community activity and experience with community healthcare workers" to "educate, guide, and provi moreVoting Question: In the question below what are the functional and non functional requirements of the business?
RetroMotorcars is a small company located in the Eglinton suburb of Derry. The company specializes in finding and selling European classic cars and parts which might be considered difficult to source, ranging from relatively recent classics, such as the Jaguar XJ6 to much older vintage cars no longer in production, such as the Porsche Speedster. It also sells the full range of Haynes car guide manuals, including rare copies of many classic car guides. It is considering extending its product range to include items which are not as rare as its cars and parts, possibly to include compatible sound systems, mp3 players, wind deflectors, generic spare parts, and so on, as well as items of memorabilia associated with classic marques, such as mugs, scarves and key rings. Although it is a small company, it has ambitious expansion plans, hoping to open a second outlet for processing orders in the North West within the coming year. Most of its sales come through paper-based brochures and advertising in the press, but it would also like to extend its catalogue so that customers could at least browse online. Most of the orders are taken in-house by order entry administrators, although some sales also come from third part commercial organizations. There are also administrators working in the areas of billing, shipping, packaging, and customer service. Their order entry and billing system has outlived its usefulness, and the Managing Director realizes that the system will have to be brought up to date in order to keep pace with the company’s development plans. Your team has been brought in to analyse the existing system, identify opportunities for improvement and develop the concept for the to-be system. moreVoting Question: scope for MBA graduates in London?

I'm new at this, so don't be too harsh, ok? but please read, i need all the constructive criticism i can get!!! :) Chapter 1 GOODBYE’S It was a Saturday afternoon when my mother drove me to the airport. It was around 68 degrees outside, but in my opinion it couldn’t get any colder. I love the weather in Southern California, but I have to leave. I am moving in with my aunt in New York City for a couple years. I don’t want to leave my mother, but my aunt needs me to stay with her and help with her business. My mom didn’t want me to go, and I didn’t want to go either. “Lyra,” my mother pleaded “you don’t have to go” , you can stay here and we can make an excuse why to you cant go.” “Mom I have to go and help her, and I think I might actually want to go.” I lied. I wasn’t really a very good liar, but these past couple of weeks, I’ve been getting better at it. I’m actually surprised that my mother would fall for the lie in the first place, I have been telling her I want to go for around 2 weeks now, so I suppose it‘s getting easier to believe each time I say it. I don’t like lying to my mother, but in this case it’s necessary. She has been wanting to visit New Jersey for a couple of months because her boyfriend lives there. So this is that perfect opportunity. Her and my dad got a divorce when I was 6 years old. I don’t see my dad much, and I miss him. But I usually spend the summer with him in Florida, every year. However last year he got remarried to a woman who hates me. I don’t know why, but it’s fine cause I’m not very fond of her either. I don’t want to have to go and stay with her for like 3 months, so I’m using my aunt as an excuse not to go. “Look mom, I will call you as soon as I land, so you know I’m alright.” I said. “I’ll miss you, I love you mom.” I looked into her childish eyes, and I began to see how much this separation would hurt her. I could see the tears forming in her eyes, and began to feel them start to sting mine, as well. I fought back the urge to hug her and tell her I wanted to stay. I started to walk away from her, and then I made the mistake of turning back to catch one more glimpse of her, to carry with me through this long alienation. “Oh, mom I’m so sorry.” I choked. “I love you, and I’ll be back before you really notice I’m gone.” “I love you Lyra.” she sobbed into my hair as she pulled me in for a goodbye hug. I gently pulled away after a moment, and kissed her on the cheek. “Bye, mom” I choked before turning and boarding my plane. After I landed in the airport I began to feel the panic set in as I looked around, but did not see, my aunt. I looked in the waiting area. And the bathrooms, but she was nowhere to be found. I started to form a plan inside my head of what to do if I couldn’t find her, should I try to find where she lives? Or should I just go home? When two words broke my reverie. “Hello, Lyra.” said a soft, reassuring voice. I spun around to see a beautiful, dark haired boy standing behind me. He looked like he was around my age, maybe 15 or 16 years old. “Umm.” I was at a total loss for words. “W-who are you?” “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you. My name is Dean Cain.” he apologized in a polite tone. “You’re aunt sent me here to pick you up.” “Oh.” For a moment all I could do was stare at him like an idiot. After a few seconds a wide, lopsided grin spread across his face. It took my breath away. He put a hand on my shoulder and started to guide me through the crowded airport. I didn’t know why, but as soon as his hand touched me my heart skipped a beat, and then went into overdrive. “I’m sorry, but how did you know I was Lyra?” I regretted saying the words as soon as they were out, but it was already too late to take them back. “You’re aunt Sharon showed me a picture of you. And then told me to pick you up here.” “How do you know my aunt Sharon?” Again I regretted saying it as soon as it was out. He laughed a soft laugh and then looked down at me. “I work for her, in her store.” He answered. “Not the best job, but it still helps out.” “Oh. Okay.” I couldn’t look away from his face. He looked like someone somebody would picture an angel to look like. I was completely overreacting, I mean I didn’t even know him. But I just stared at his face until he looked down at me, and I looked away. Embarrassed, I watched my feet the rest of the way to his car. I didn’t know much about cars, but I did know this car was definitely old. It was an odd faded red color with rust on the sides. It looked like it was in need for a serious paintjob. He took his hand off my shoulder, and walked me around to the passenger side of the car. He opened my door for me and then shut it after I got in. I had to write a essay to get into the advanced training for my trade tell me what you guys think Why I believe I should be accepted into the Shriver Advanced Training Program. I feel that since I went through my computer repair trade at a pretty rapid pace, I should be able to do the same at Shriver. As a matter of fact I will be taking my A+ certification test by week’s end. David Brinkley once stated “A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him”. I believe the determination and focus that has been instilled in me would make me a great asset to Shriver Job Corps Center. I originally came to Job Corps as a last opportunity, but I soon realized the ability of advanced training to provide a high source of income for me and possibly a family in the future. I was attending Valencia Community College but my family had to relocate. I ended up having to owe money to financial aid, in spite of that I was doing pretty ok for myself. I found a job with a tech Support call center for SanDisk but eventually they ended up laying everyone off and found myself collecting unemployment. After months of searching for employment I realized the jobs were not that easy to come by, that’s when I decided to make the call to Job Corps. I will be taking the network+ certification after I finish the Comptia A+ certification. My original plan was to get into Cisco but I soon realized it wasn’t available so I went with my second choice getting my Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) Certification. While at Job corps I got the opportunity to setup the Business Tech Class and their 22 computers by myself which included installing a print server, network deployment of Deepfreeze and NetOP. All of which I learned on the spot using the internet as my guide. As you can see I have a personality that tends to thrive for knowledge. Determination and focus are the best of my characteristics. I believe that I will highly benefit from Shriver’s Advanced Training program as well as become beneficial and a model student for Shriver. It will be in both of our best interests for me to become one of Shriver’s alumni. moreResolved Question: where do i go from here?

You?
FCC Votes to Begin Crafting `Net Neutrality' Rules Oct 22 12:42 PM US/Eastern By JOELLE TESSLER AP Technology Writer WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal regulators took an important step Thursday toward prohibiting broadband providers from favoring or discriminating against certain kinds of Internet traffic. Despite the concerns of telecommunications companies and the agency's two Republicans, the Federal Communications Commission voted to begin writing so-called "network neutrality" regulations. Proponents say the rules would prevent phone and cable companies from abusing their control over the market for broadband access. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said regulations are needed to ensure that broadband subscribers can access all legal Web sites and services, including Internet calling applications and video sites that compete with the broadband companies' core businesses. "Internet users should always have the final say about their online service, whether it's the software, applications or services they choose, or the networks and hardware they use to the connect to the Internet," Genachowski said. The FCC's two other Democrats voted to support his plan. The agency's two Republican commissioners voted merely to start the formal rule-making process, but said they are opposed to the substance of Genachowski's proposal. Republican Commissioner Robert McDowell said he remains unconvinced that broadband providers are engaging in widespread anticompetitive behavior that requires government intervention. "I do not share the majority's view that the Internet is showing breaks and cracks, nor do I believe that the government is the best tool to fix it," he said. Next up for the FCC is to actually craft the rules, with a vote on whether to adopt them expected to come by next summer. That would culminate a five-year debate in Washington that has pitted Internet companies such as Google Inc. against some of the biggest phone and cable companies—including AT&T Inc., Verizon Communications Inc. and Comcast Corp. The broadband providers insist they need flexibility, free from government intervention, to keep their networks running smoothly. They want to ensure that high-bandwidth applications such as YouTube videos don't hog too much capacity and impede other traffic, like e-mail and online searches. They also say that net neutrality regulations would discourage them from expanding and upgrading their networks. "We continue to hope that any rules adopted by the commission will not harm the investment and innovation that has made the Internet what it is today and that will make it even greater tomorrow," Comcast Executive Vice President David L. Cohen said in a statement. But companies such as Google, Amazon.com Inc., eBay Inc.'s Skype and Facebook Inc. argue that without such rules, the broadband companies will become online gatekeepers that can prioritize their own online services or those of their business partners—and potentially put others at a disadvantage. Markham Erickson, executive director of the Open Internet Coalition, called Thursday's vote "the first step toward ... creating a framework that promotes innovation and consumer choice on the Internet." The Open Internet Coalition represents public interest groups and big Internet companies, including Google, Amazon and eBay. Genachowski's plan calls for the agency to formally adopt four broadband principles that have guided the FCC's enforcement of communications laws on a case-by-case basis. Those principles state that network operators must allow subscribers to access all online content, applications, services and devices as long as they are legal. The FCC relied on those guidelines last year when it ordered Comcast to stop blocking subscribers from using an online file-sharing service called BitTorrent, which is used to transfer big files such as online video. Comcast is challenging the FCC ruling in court. Genachowski also wants the FCC to adopt two additional principles that would bar broadband providers from discriminating against particular content or applications and require them to disclose network management practices. And he is seeking to apply all six rules across all types of broadband networks, including wireless systems, which have been largely unregulated. "The time is now to move forward with consideration of fair and reasonable rules of the road," Genachowski said Thursday. "It would be a serious failure of responsibility not to consider such rules, for that would be gambling with the most important technological innovation of our time." There may be that love somewheres and yes there is a reason we met but if isnt marriage then it dosent mean everything we planned we cant do cuz we can like i dont even know if i wanna marry when im older i just needa enjoy life right now and wut comes then comes but love is like a garden and it dose fade away and dose need help to grow ours is deff starving but there is still hope just one day at a time just like a garden it takes time.anther thing have you ever though maybe if we talked every other day or a few times during the week instead of everyday sometimes like a gazillion times then maybe there would be more chemistry between us?I do apoligize though for the way things have been going about its like were in second grade theres no reason to act like the way we are we are almost at of hs and in the real world this is not the way to be acting. And someday i want people to look and go omg thats what i want to be in love like that but right now people look at us and go omg all u guys do is argue and yeah for the most part we are jokeign around but uk ur mom is right do we really wanna be like this our whole life our familys do get pissed an annoyed when we r only jokeing and when we r serioud they dont think we r cuz we r always jokeing so like yeah it may be fun but thats not love it may be our way but ik damn right thats not wut someone wants and i dont either i just think its funny but i guess it time to grow up. If peter ask you anything jsut tell him its all good now nobody needs to no that we got a huge problem that needs help. You jsut gotta realize to make this work you needa listen i cant spell it out for you. Im not changing my mind so dont try changeing it yeah u see teens in relationship and some r even in love but most them rnt long distance and dont realize its even harder then seeing someone every day and yeah i wanna be in love but im still young and there is love every were you go but i just wanna wait and then when im ready in the future maybe after working things out we will be perfectwhat do you mean to initiate? do you mean like flowers etc. also we have been dating for 2 1/2 years moreResolved Question: How do I learn how to make my own website?
