LiveDeal CEO leaves company Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal

LiveDeal Inc. said Tuesday its chief executive, Dan Coury, is no longer with the company or a member of the board.

In a regulatory filing, LiveDeal (NASDAQ:LIVE), a combined local online classifieds and Yellow Pages marketplace that has offices in Santa Clara, said it terminated Coury's employment and paid him a one-time lump sum of $496,000.

The company, which did not give a reason for Coury's departure, also named founder Rajesh Navar chairman of the board.

The decision was obviously not something planned out in advance, since Kennedy was being heavily advertised on the USA Network this week as “returning” for the 6/1 Raw show from Birmingham, plus, on his TV return, he had a face-to-face confrontation with Randy Orton that seemed to be building an upcoming title program. He was also coming off being the guy a WWE film, “Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia,” was promoted around. The whole idea of WWE films is to both make money, of course, by trying to get the wrestling audience to get the DVDs. But it’s also, when using a non-established superstar in the lead, the idea is the movie will increase the star power of wrestlers the company is looking at as long-term future headliners. After the ten-man on Raw ended, Orton went to Kennedy backstage, not very happy and told him in direct, adamant but not loud terms, to be more careful. Kennedy, in doing a back suplex, dropped Orton on his surgically repaired shoulder. There wasn’t a big blow-up or anything like that but everyone knew Orton wasn’t happy about it. Orton did momentarily lose it in the ring after taking the move, as he started punching the mat in frustration before rolling out of the ring. Orton and Kennedy have been very good friends in the past and often hung out together on the road. There were people after who congratulated Orton on not losing his cool on how he handled it. Orton wasn’t seriously injured and worked a short dark cage match the next night with Batista, and then worked on top during the Mexico tour, although Show was carrying the action in the tag matches over the weekend. Orton was icing his shoulder after the match and Orton’s injury was considered more serious than Kennedy’s. He complained of a stiff neck at television the next day and was still icing his shoulder and getting massage therapy, and made comments about Kennedy being a careless worker but it was not any kind of a major piece of conversation at the Smackdown show. Four days later, John Laurinaitis gave Kennedy the phone call, basically saying the boss (Vince) made the call, being nice about it and saying that hopefully in the future they could do business again. Virtually everyone outside the inner circle was shocked, as wrestlers who found out about it after WWE put it in almost a hidden spot on its web site, were doing double-takes like it was nothing they expected. Those on the road didn’t even believe it at first. There was an assumption among many that Orton went to Vince and pushed the issue, but nobody seems to know if that is really the case. It was considered to be a done issue between the two once TV was over. However, that was the straw that broke the camel’s back in Vince McMahon’s mind. On the flight back from Los Angeles after Smackdown, Vince cut a promo on him to the inner circle. He said Kennedy was a reckless worker and said he was green as a mechanic and green when it comes to business instincts. The only real backer he had was Austin, but Austin is pretty much out of the company at this point. A lot of the better workers in the company were not high on him and didn’t like working with him. It was not personal heat but a lack of respect because they saw him as an average talent who was all smoke and mirrors because of his catch phrase. My impression is the guy, as much as he seemed to have a propensity for making himself look like a fool outside the ring, had very strong charisma and a good gimmick. A couple of top guys, Orton not being one of them, were believed to have gone to Vince bad mouthing Kennedy. At least four of the company’s best wrestlers did not like working with him, three of whom were on the Raw brand he had just been drafted to. Matt Hardy on his Myspace page said Kennedy was one of his best friends in the company and hated to hear the news he was gone, and others have corroborated that he was popular with a lot of the wrestlers. It is believed TNA has an interest in him, but in his case, the situation would be that TNA would likely want him to sign a three-year deal. One person close to Kennedy noted that he’s looking forward to going to TNA in September (after his 90-day non-compete period ends), that he has a lot of confidence and believes he can be a real top guy, but believes Vince McMahon doesn’t see him at that level. It would hurt me if Cena or Orton had to do anything with it considering they're two people I highly look up to and they got me into wrestling more

Her blonde hair waved softly across the forest floor, tangled in leaves and twigs. Her eyes were close and her chest was still. She’d breathed her last breath. For now. Who was death to think he could claim Scarlett Avilon? Every faerie’s biggest fear was the Were. A curse that destroyed lives- one bite was all it took to turn you into a wild and insane shape shifter. Those who were bitten were sent to live in a remote mountain range, where they wouldn’t be a danger to every one else. Scarlett never planned on being bitten. She’d grown up more intelligent than every other faerie put together, and so beautiful she could wrap the most hard- heated faerie around her finger. She’d written 7 books and her company, which specialized in everything, had put all competition out of business. She was 12 years old. A wild pack of Weres, driven mad by the curse, had come down from the mountains. Scarlett saw them rushing towards her, eyes wide and fearful, rolling in agony. She saw a brief flash of teeth, claws, mutant wolves, hybrid cats and horses. Only half faerie. And then they were upon her. They were driven largely by fear, and they didn’t stop-hooves thundered over her and claws ripped through her. There was only one bite, on her left leg. But that was all it took. An ordinary person would have despaired, and fled before the curse took hold, before they became a danger to their family. The thought never occurred to Scarlett. Self-pity had never appealed to her. She knew she had precisely 90 seconds of rational thinking before the curse took hold. Her hand went straight to her pocket and found the little handheld computer there. Her fingers flew across the touch screen. The email read Soon, the public knowledge will be that I am dead. Preserve my body- I will soon need it. There will be a stone beside my computer- mind it with your life. She hit send. 60 seconds left. “Last resort” she whispered. The computer scanned her voice and the password. ‘Iris scan in process’ said the computer’s cool voice. Every fleck in her amber-gold eyes was put under thorough inspection. “Scan complete” said the computer. A secret window appeared on the screen ‘Enter password’ it read. Cursing her own security measures, she typed ‘life’. “Life vacuum to be initiated. Confirm?” “Yes, yes! I confirm!” she snapped exasperatedly. “Life vacuum initiated” the computer announced, in a voice that infuriated Scarlett. She had 25 seconds left to transfer her life to somewhere else, before her body came under the Were curse. A slot opened underneath the computer screen. Scarlett felt herself become weaker. That was because she had placed a moonstone inside the slot- a stone that attracted and absorbed life like a magnet. Something she’d recently discovered. Who knew she’d have to avail of it so soon. 50% complete. 15 seconds to go.Slowly, the percentage bar snailed forwards, and Scarlett became weaker and weaker until she could hardly keep her eyes open. She could feel the pain ripping through her leg, sending sharp spasms up and down her nervous system. She knew she hadn’t long before her body was out of her control. She just had to make sure her mind was somewhere else first. 100% complete. The moonstone slid out of the slot in the computer, Scarlett’s life safely sealed inside. Her body collapsed, the life having been drained from it. That was how the man found her, seconds later. She looked, for all the world, like an ordinary 12 year old girl, peaceful in death. But he knew his master was still very much alive, and that Scarlett was not an ordinary girl. People who under-estimated Scarlett Avilon usually ended up dead.Okay well Scarlett is sort of the evil character in the book, I just started off with her. The main character is Hazel. I didn't get to her yet but she's more normal, and far easier to relate too. I reveal more about Scarlett as the story goes on, about her life and stuff. At the moment, because she's a genius, she feels distanced from everyone else, and I'll tell more about that later in the book. more
