Iraq vets’ sacrifices crucial, McCoy says
"Theirs is a debt that can never be repaid, but that we must always honor," McCoy said. "We owe it to those individuals and we owe it to this country to do so, and we owe it to others who would think that we are weak and don't have the will to defend our freedom." McCoy, who commanded the Army Corps of Engineers' work in Iraq before coming to Fort Leonard Wood, said he's personally seen what it means to live without freedom. "Having gone to Iraq and been to Afghanistan and seen those places and some 20 or 30 other countries in the world that don't enjoy many of the freedoms that we have, I understand easily why they want it, and not because we have it, but because it's right," McCoy said. "You cannot imagine how oppressed some people are in this world … Some would say, 'Well, how is fighting in Iraq defending our nation?' And I will tell you, because those we fight would rather do it here. more

Yahoo says the e-mail is a hoax that seeks to trick recipients into revealing online passwords, credit-card information, and Social Security numbers. The stolen information is used to access victims' bank accounts and credit cards or to apply for unauthorized credit cards or loans. In addition, some victims are deceived into sending money for alleged processing and mailing charges.
"The unauthorized use of Yahoo trademarks is misleading, fraudulent, and has actually confused, misled and deceived the public," Joe Siino, senior VP for Yahoo business strategy, said in a statement.
The lawsuit is meant to send a "clear message" that Yahoo intends to go after "individuals who have attempted to negatively impact the e-mail experience for consumers across the Internet," said John Kremer, VP for Yahoo Mail. more

Open Question: Can I have some career advice PLEASE?
I am a high school Sophomore and I either want to become a producer, actress (not very much though) or a lawyer. I wanted to be a lawyer for years but then I started to think about it and I don't know how good I am at arguing. People say I love to argue, but I don't think I can make a good argument, although some people say I can, others I can't. I am going to start taking acting lessons next year as my elective. I've been obsessed with celebrities so I looked into becoming a producer and it sounded interesting. I've started watching the behind scenes stuff on DVDs and it looks like fun! I have an uncle who is a producer and he is unemployed. But, then my neighbor is a lawyer and he is unemployed also.I told my parents I want to be a producer and they said "NO WAY!". My dad said "if you major in producing, find a way to pay for your own college", but he said this in front of his friends so I don't know if he was joking or not. After he said this, my mom said "just minor in film." I am taking acting classes next year for my electives and there are tons of opportunities for me to act if I am interested in it. I am going to college after high school, probably Notre Dame or U of Michigan and maybe majoring in Business and minoring in film . I am planning on going to law school after college. If I decide to go with the lawyer career, I want to be a Senator. Or I was considering becoming a producer and then governor (like Ronald Reagan was an actor and then he became President.) There are stars like Peter Facinelli and Ashley Greene who didn't start acting until college and Cameron Diaz who auditioned for a part and got it with no acting experience and Harrison Ford started acting, wasn't making a lot of money acting, so he took of carpentry and then was hired to build George Lucas's cabinets, and then Lucas hired him for Star Wars. I also took a career test and it said either a producer or lawyer! (That was no help at all!) Also, I was looking at employment statistics, and it said for 2008, there were around 100,00 employed producers and 700,000 employed lawyers, but I won't be graduating college until 2017, so I don't know how much the statistics will change. What are my chances of becoming a producer in Hollywood? Can I have some advice? I have no idea what I want to do! Also, my mom said the reason she didn't go to law school was because of how hard it is to find a job as a lawyer and she isn't good at arguing. Also, I don't want to become a lawyer because I am really shy and my brother said that if I want to be a lawyer, I better get over my shyness. Also, my dad is driving me crazy because he wants me to be a lawyer (because I wanted to be a lawyer for a couple years) and now when I said I don't really want to be a lawyer, he gets mad. moreOpen Question: What do you think of this teen novel idea, and the main character?
Meet Anna - a girl who has travelled all over the world. Her father is a business man and therefore travels a lot. She goes with him because she loves photography, fashion, and basically just trying new things. She has a huge scrapbook album of all the places she’s been, and has three full closets of designer clothes from all over the world. Anna lives in New York, and since her mother had died when she was only three, she is alone most of the time. Well not quite - she’s usually found at the mall, hanging out with friends, at her dance lessons, or playing the piano. She is thrilled when her dad says that they’re going to France - the fashion capital of the world for the entire summer. But plans take a turn when her father discovers that his great aunt is in her death bed, and decides to visit their homeland instead - Ukraine. Anna knows nothing about this country because her dad had moved to America when she was a baby. She has no friends, no cell phone, no internet, no nothing there. Well maybe except a few crazy relatives that she doesn’t know anything about. Anna is devastated because not only will she not get to go to France, but she will also not get to go designer shopping, or take photos of the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame. Instead, she will be stuck on a farm in the outskirts of an Eastern European country she knows nothing about - not the ideal summer for a spoiled city teenager. Follow along on Anna’s journey to Ukraine, as she finds out more about her family, culture, ethics, heritage, and even herself, (and maybe even love along the way). (There will also be lots and lots of humour in the story. For example, Anna gets her period in the airport and has trouble asking her dad (who she isn't very close with) for money for a tampon). :P More about Anna.... Anna- 16, dark green eyes, long wavy chestnut hair, nice figure, petite. She is Ukrainian. Beautiful, smart, witty, sarcastic. Loves to travel, dance, sing, and play the piano. Her favourite things to do are shopping and photography. She has a huge scrapbook album of pictures from all over the world, and three full closets of designer clothes from all over the world. She is impatient, friendly, funny, confident, forgetful, stubborn at times, and polite. So, what do you think of the novel idea? Is it cliche, has it been done before? And also, do you think Anna is too much of a Mary-Sue? If so, how could I make her more realistic? Thanks for the advice! :) moreOpen Question: Can I have some career advice PLEASE (more opinions PLEASE)?

Hi. I am considering purchasing software to help me learn Spanish. I want something I can work with on my computer (I am a visual learner, no audio only). I was looking at Rosetta Stone (of course), and as I was reading reviews, I saw that several people were quite unhappy with customer service, and someone recommended Fluenz. Also, some people pointed out that they didn't find some of the vocabulary beneficial, e.g., names of animals. I was unable to try a Rosetta Stone trial (it would not load), but the Fluenz trial lesson went very well. Fluenz is geared for tourists and business people - I want to learn it for the sake of learning it. To simply converse. Also, I plan on going into the medical field (BSN), and am curious if one encourages a freer style of conversing (again, the Fluenz trial went well, but I am not interested in ordering coffee and asking for the bill). Also, I have a toddler, so would Rosetta Stone be beneficial for her? If there are any other suggestions, I would appreciate that. Two more questions: If I were to go with Rosetta Stone, how many volumes would it be worth buying? I do not plan on spending $800 on the complete set. Is there anything I should know when purchasing, i.e., saving receipts (again, someone pointed out the needed their receipt from six months earlier to have their CD replaced)? Thanks moreResolved Question: What should I do? Seriously out of control 10 and 12 yo? HELP! WILLLD KIDZ?
I am a 25 yo sibling to a 10 boy and a 12 girl. They are completely out of control and disrespectful. They say the most disrespectful things to my parents, they are always sparring w/ one another and they hate contributing w/ any chores. Today I was trying to get some serious work done for school on the computer and watching TV. They kept on changing the channel, turning off the TV and eventually took the remotes. Then they kept on turning off the computer in the mist of my work. So they came up w this ingenious plan to turn off the TV and run outside- instead of upstairs to escape my wrath... I thought that was a great idea, lol. So I told them, "Go ahead and see what happens". They did it, I chased them out the front door then locked them out. To teach them a lesson. I informed my step-mom and she agreed that they needed to learn when to Quit. She had a good friend of hers come pick up my sister- whom eventually calmed down so I let her back in. BUUUTT, the ten year old is a real monster: banging on windows, kicking the doors, taking apart door knobs (actually breaking in the house), when I realized he made it into the laundry room I opened the door and told him very firmly in a very angry tone "DO NOT COME IN HERE". He actually saw that I meant business and said he wasnt. I was planning to let him in when my sister got picked up. When she did. I went in there and told him If you tell me sorry then I will let him in. He proceeded to hurl insults at me. So I led him right outside and relocked all the doors. I told him he could come in when he can say Sorry. I dont think he realizes why he is wrong. He has been out there for a little over two hours. I want to keep him out there until he wares down. He is fuming, and I just want him to give in. He is super tenacious and determined. Not to mention extremely stubborn, hard-headed and SPOILED! I have a 17 yo brother (mind you, I just moved back in), who says that He just leaves, bc he cant handle it. The friend that picked up my sister said That she's going to have a talk w my sister, agreed to keep my brother outside and said they were so spoiled. My dad helps none. He favors my brother when he has visitations.... Any parenting tips? As a matter of fact, bc he gets so angry (and he's not an outside kid), I think he took off. I want to work in the movie industry because it looks like a lot of fun and I love watching movies. I have no idea what to do! I am going to take acting lessons for the first time next year, but I'm not sure if I will enjoy it. moreResolved Question: Do you think my parents are being a bit harsh?
I'm a full time college student, and I work on weekends earning £54 a week, (although after tax i'm left with £45) . My job which i plan to do when i graduate requires a driving lience and my own transport, so im currently taking driving lessons (paid for by myself) and plan to take my test next month, then after I will be saving for a cheap car. My 1 driving lesson a week costs £20, and my parents take £15 off me for rent, which leaves me with only £10, which is spent on my weekly bus ticket to get there and back for college and work. I applied for EMA, which is an allowance for students to help with transports, ect, which is £30 a week, but i'm not entitled to it as my parents earn over 30 grand a year. I feel so depressed as I have no social life as my parents take what little money i have left. My friends ask me out all the time but I can't go out as i have no money, I even miss their birthdays. They can afford to go out as they get EMA and aren't having driving lessons as they are studying a different course to me, or the ones who are having them are being paid by their parents. My parents never lend me money so that's out of the question. I've asked my mum and dad if they could lower my rent to £10 , so at least then i could just about afford a cinema ticket and go see a film with friends when they all go, but they just say 'Do you know how much you'd have to pay if you lived in a flat?' which i suppose is a good point, but i feel they're being really unsympathetic, especially as neither of them have been in my situation before (my dad in inherited his business from his dad when he was my age). Do you think they're being a bit harsh? moreResolved Question: Since I have no idea what career I want, I'm trying to cover everything in high school...bad idea?
Hey, alright I'm in 10th grade and have absolutely no idea what I want to do when I get older. No idea as in none what-so-ever. :/. Therefore, I came up with the idea to take enough classes that whatever I decide on will be covered... See, I don't want to be the person who has their heart set on being a marine biologist, takes zillions of science courses, and ends up changing their career to become an artist. So, this is what I'm doing.. I'm taking honors classes in everything possible, and I have a 101% grade point average (4.something, it's over a 4.0) and am currently 5th in my class But academics don't cut it, I know. I also volunteer- At my local library, an animal shelter, my little sister's elementary school (at events they hold), and my Church. Then there's electives. I'm taking an art class and creative writing this year. I also have taken band for quite a while. I took a computer apps class last year. I've taken a couple years of Spanish and am continuing throughout high school. I'm also going to be taking photography and video production in the coming years. (And more, I just don't know what I want for sure, yet. I know clubs are important, too. I unfortunately didn't join any last year, because I was really busy and it was a new school so I was kind of scared. This year, I'm going to be more involved, however. I'm going to do a "Volunteer club" as well as join FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America)...I also plan on attending "Foreign Language Club"' and others as they come along. I take guitar lessons and karate, as well. To sum it all up, I do a lot. Is this enough to have a lot of choices of careers as I get older? Or am I messing myself up? Suggestions? Thanks(: moreResolved Question: 22yr old girl LIFE question?
Hey! i just graduated college like 2 months ago and i live in a really pretty city with my parents and sibling. She graduated like 2 years ago and has a good paying job and is always out of the house and she is fine living at home being 24 yrs old and my mom is always out of the house working and my dad is at home most of the time working because he has his own business. My question is ........I dont know what to do with my LIFE. Im not like my sister, i feel trapped inside 4 walls ever since i moved back home. There is nothing wrong with my family, i just dont like being here because we live away from downtown and theres nothing to do here. Since i graduated like 2 months ago i have been taking it easy lol. I have been applying for jobs off craigslist here and there...but there hasnt been any success. Im just scared that if i do get a job i mite be trapped in this city forever, and live the life my sister is living (although she enjoys it) ....I kind of want to move to another city like 2 hours away and start over fresh, and be away from family, since they give me so much support...i feel like i just need to be independent and figure out who i am? im a person that "plans" things and now life is just unpredictable since i graduated...idk if i shud stay here and find a crappy job at the mall, regardless of my degree or if i shud just move and try to be spontaneous and then look for a job. (my parents said they can support my rent for a year) does anyone out there have any life lessons they learned after graduation, or tips to help me out? i know people say happiness comes within, but i truly feel if i go to another city i mite be happier because its a new environment? xoxoxx moreResolved Question: How much life you have left to live? If you read one story today, read this one. How many marbles do you have? It sounds like a set-up, a prelude to a punchline about losing one’s marbles. But as you’ll see from this remarkable story below, the marbles measure much more. And you can personally change that which they measure and perhaps, the quality of your life going forward. The older I get, the more I enjoy Saturday mornings. Perhaps it’s the quiet solitude that comes with being the first to rise, of maybe it’s the unbounded joy of not having to be at work. Either way, the first few hours of a Saturday morning are most enjoyable. A few weeks ago, I was shuffling toward the kitchen, with a steaming cup of coffee in one hand and the morning paper in the other. What began as a typical Saturday morning turned into one of those lessons that life seems to hand you from time to time. Let me tell you about it. I turned the volume up on my radio in order to listen to a Saturday morning talk show. I heard an older sounding chap with a golden voice. You know the kind, he sounded like he should be in the broadcasting business himself. He was talking about “a thousand marbles” to someone named “Tom”. I was intrigued and sat down to listen to what he had to say. “Well, Tom, it sure sounds like you’re busy with your job. I’m sure they pay you well but it’s a shame you have to be away from home and your family so much. Hard to believe a young fellow should have to work sixty or seventy hours a week to make ends meet. Too bad you missed your daughter’s dance recital. ” He continued, “Let me tell you something Tom, something that has helped me keep a good perspective on my own priorities.” And that’s when he began to explain his theory of a “thousand marbles.” “You see, I sat down one day and did a little arithmetic. The average person lives about seventy-five years. I know, some live more and some live less, but on average, folks live about seventy-five years.” “Now then, I multiplied 75 times 52 and I came up with 3900 which is the number of Saturdays that the average person has in their entire lifetime. “Now stick with me Tom, I’m getting to the important part. “It took me until I was fifty-five years old to think about all this in any detail”, he went on, “and by that time I had lived through over twenty-eight hundred Saturdays. “I got to thinking that if I lived to be seventy-five, I only had about a thousand of them left to enjoy. “So I went to a toy store and bought every single marble they had. I ended up having to visit three toy stores to round-up 1000 marbles. “I took them home and put them inside of a large, clear plastic container right here in my workshop next to the radio. Every Saturday since then, I have taken one marble out and thrown it away. “I found that by watching the marbles diminish, I focused more on the really important things in life. There is nothing like watching your time here on this earth run out to help get your priorities straight. “Now let me tell you one last thing before I sign-off with you and take my lovely wife out for breakfast. This morning, I took the very last marble out of the container. I figure if I make it until next Saturday then God has blessed me with a little extra time to be with my loved ones…… “It was nice to talk to you Tom, I hope you spend more time with your loved ones, and I hope to meet you again someday. Have a good morning!” You could have heard a pin drop when he finished. Even the show’s moderator didn’t have anything to say for a few moments. I guess he gave us all a lot to think about. I had planned to do some work that morning, then go to the gym. Instead, I went upstairs and woke my wife up with a kiss. “C’mon honey, I’m taking you and the kids to breakfast.” “What brought this on?” she asked with a smile. “Oh, nothing special,” I said. ” It has just been a long time since we spent a Saturday together with the kids. Hey, can we stop at a toy store while we’re out? I need to buy some marbles.” ————————————– How many marbles do you have left? moreResolved Question: I want to start a business... but kinda to young ?

I am a high school Sophomore and I either want to become a producer, actress a lawyer. Along with that I would like to train, and give lessons and maybe some chiropractic/accupuncture work. Is this enough things to make a person well off? I've heard that equine business is tough, but if you do more than one thing, could you still be well off, higher middle class with that? Does anyone know of any good colleges for that? moreVoting Question: Does this sound like a realistic plan?
1.Until I turn 16 I can compete in shows around my area and ones slightly higher and get myself well known at these shows.I'd be known as a very gifted rider with a gifted horse too. Then at 16 I'll start teaching lessons for show jumping,beginner English lessons,and general English riding and jumping lessons. These lessons would cost $25 an hour. 2.Once I have finished school I'd go and get certified to be a pro. instructor[for show jumping]While doing this I would also be competing in larger shows.[I mean difficult ones and advanced] 3.Then I'd be competing and starting a full blone business for training riders. 3.Then I'd save for shows that are widely known and more upper class then the ones I had been competing in. Eventually I would show in those. 4.after getting enough titles I'd settle down and start a public stable ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Yes, I have a horse that will be good enough until I'm about 17 or older. Then I'd buy a new one and keep this one too. I'd be staying at my parents house until I had enough money form my business to get an apartment. I understand that the therapy barn will have to be built specially and that it will cost me more, but all my barns will be a uniform size of 84ft X 128ft with 16 X 16 stalls with 14 stalls. i will need cross-ties, wash stalls, and a tack room as well. i'm not sure if i will be building with wood or metal yet because i don't know which one would be better and no i don't know where i will be living. I am very aware that this is a very big undertaking for a girl who just turned 18, and that it will be something i will have to do for the rest of my life, but i am going to make this happen one way or another. I don't need people telling me i'm being stupid and that it's not going to happen (both my brothers think i'm a complete failure and that this is the stupidest idea they've ever heard). i'm asking for your help not your doubt, so if you have any advise PLEASE tell me. thank you.I will most likely build these in the Mid-west of the U.S. Just so people know, these dreams aren't for me they're for damaged, disabled, and disavantaged child. Everything that i am building will benefit them, all of this is for them, not for me or my friends who are helping me. moreResolved Question: Which career path should I pursue? (Lawyer or Hollywood producer)?
I know I asked this, I just wanted more opinions: I am a high school Sophomore and I either want to become a producer, actress a lawyer. I wanted to be a lawyer for years but then I started to think about it and I don't know how good I am at arguing. People say I love to argue, but I don't think I can make a good arguement. I am going to start taking acting lessons next year as my elective. I've been obsessed with celebrities so I looked into becoming a producer and it sounded interesting. (That was no help at all!) What are my chances of becoming a producer in Hollywood? Can I have some advice? Okay so I'm 15 and I'm starting to think about what I wanna go to college for. So first off I've been home schooled nearly my whole life and to be honest I have slacked off on my subjects. So I want to crack down a little but I don't want to go to a college I can't handle you know? So I would like advice of what kind of thing I should go for and even which colleges you suggest. So the things I enjoy and have thought about going to college for: Business, I have always enjoyed things in business, like coming up with business plans and such, But I have no idea what type of business, I took it to the music business but I don't know I might want something different. Journalism and novelist, I've only looked into this briefly but I have tried doing a few blogs and I kind of enjoy it so I might want to like write an article in a paper or magazine. Drumming, I have been drumming without lessons for like 4 years and I enjoy it a lot, So I know that doesn't evolve much traditional knowledge but I heard it's hard to make it in the music business. Computer or electronics technician, I thought about because I kind of like finding out how things work, But that would probably take a lot of knowledge and I don't know if I can handle that. Photography, I like taking pictures and I think I have a pretty creative mind, I don't know how much of a market there is for that though. Web design and web business, I have always had a passion for creating a running websites, I know there's a market for it, but again I don't know if I can handle the knowledge involved. Virtual Worlds and gaming, This is something I've enjoyed for a long time, I would love to be envolved in a virtual world or virtual environment project, but once again I am afraid I won't be able to handle the training. Thank you for reading this, Any advice at all regarding this is greatly appreciated. God bless.Okay good answers, Can anyone tell me a college that has most of these majors so if I want to switch I can? moreResolved Question: Why am I scared to pursue my dream?
I KNOW ITS A LOT BUT PLEASE HELP! I'm 18 years old and about to start college. I went to orientation where I learned more about my major. Currently my major is Media Arts (film/television). But every time I see a play, a musical, a concert, a dance performance, MTV Music Awards, etc. I get really excited and I wish I could do that. I'm really into fine arts and did drama all 4 years of high school. I also did 2 years of choir and color guard (dance). I'm even taking vocal lessons. I've ALWAYS wanted to be a performer as a recording artist and act in films. I also like filming, editing, and directing. I know that I prefer being on stage than behind the scenes. My choir teacher even told me that if I pursue music, I could make a lot of money. I believe that I can make it, BIG! But sometimes I feel I'm not good enough. I decided to go into media because I know I'm more capable of getting employed in film after I graduate from the university rather than struggling as a singer. My plan was to get internships with Hollywood businesses and get to know people who can take me into singing but maybe that may take longer. I'm thinking of changing my major to theatre arts so I can do musical theatre or maybe continue media and minor in music (voice). Anyways, I get very scared whenever an opportunity shows up where I can get myself out there. So what I do is I stay on the safe side like doing media arts. Why do I get so scared when it comes to do something that I've always dreamed of and want to do in life? moreVoting Question: Can I get into Columbia University?

~~~~~several years back? (May 24) -- Even as proposals pour in for cleaning up the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, one veteran of a massive (and secret) crude spill in the Persian Gulf says he has a tried-and-true solution. "No one's listening," says Nick Pozzi, who was an engineer with Saudi Aramco in the Middle East when he says an accident there in 1993 generated a spill far larger than anything the United States has ever seen. According to Pozzi, that mishap, kept under wraps for close to two decades and first reported by Esquire, dumped nearly 800 million gallons of oil into the Persian Gulf, which would make it more than 70 times the size of the Exxon Valdez spill.But remarkably, by employing a fleet of empty supertankers to suck crude off the water's surface, Pozzi's team was not only able to clean up the spill, but also salvage 85 percent of the oil, he says. "We took [the oil] out of the water so it would save the environment off the Arabian Gulf, and then we put it into tanks until we could figure out how to clean it," While BP, the oil giant at the center of the recent accident, works to stanch the leak from the sunken Deepwater Horizon rig, Pozzi insists the company should be following his lead. Also, one former Aramco employee did acknowledge that there was a large spill in the region in the early '90s, and that Aramco had used tankers to clean up earlier oil slicks. Pozzi, now retired, spent 17 years of his career in Saudi Arabia, part of it as a manager in Aramco's technical support and maintenance division. Shortly after the April 22 sinking of the Deepwater Horizon, he and a friend, Houston attorney Jon King (with whom Pozzi recently launched a business called Wow Environmental Solutions), traveled to Houma, La., headquarters for BP's response center, to offer up the lessons he'd learned working in the Persian Gulf. Ever since, he says, the pair's been stonewalled. When he called the manager at BP in charge of the cleanup effort, Pozzi says he was told "don't bother me." "He said, 'Follow procedures,' " Pozzi recalls. "He said, 'I'm taking names and I'm going to sue you.' " Next, Pozzi and King phoned the president of BP and left a message with his secretary. An hour later, though, they received a call from "from a young lady in BP headquarters" who asked how she might assist them. They told her about their plan -- but have received no further contact. Then, early this week, the duo say they spoke with Capt. Ed Stanton, the Coast Guard commander overseeing a length of the affected coastline. Stanton asked for a written proposal. That's the last Pozzi and King heard from him. "It sounds so simple that they turn around and say, 'That was years ago. We've got modern technology now,' " Pozzi says. "But their modern technology isn't working too well." Last week BP lowered a concrete-and-steel containment dome into the gulf in a highly chronicled effort to cap the underwater leak, only to have to quickly abort that effort. All of their earlier efforts have failed, including one they tried yesterday. Meantime, Saudia Arabia is sitting on the world's largest fleet of supertankers. Pozzi suggests that the U.S. government tell the Saudis: " 'Hey, we helped you out, can you help us out? Lend us some supertankers.' For a little payback for helping them out during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait." Moreover, he says, "there are many, many, many other countries that have oil tankers" that, for a price, could be deployed off Louisiana. Stephen Reilly, CEO of Slickbar, a leading oil spill equipment and vessels manufacturer, says that while he's unfamiliar with supertankers being used in this way, Pozzi's proposal could well work. "Any containment area or barge or tanker can be used for reception, and they certainly have the pumping system on board," Reilly says. "So in terms of using assets like that to pump stuff into tanks, by all means." Pozzi speculates that the reluctance on the part of those he's contacted comes down to one word: CASH/ When oil tankers are taken out of service for a special project like this, they stop earning money for their owners. BP, Pozzi says, should "step up to the plate" and offer to pay anyone willing to lend a tanker whatever they would lose in profits by dispatching one of their ships to the gulf region. BP on Thursday said the cost of battling the spill has reached nearly $450 million. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ BP has billions. Saudi Arabia is not our enemy. So BP. What is the big deal when the answers are so near? BP will go to any lengths - they have tried nearly everything and have been unsuccessful. They will continue to be unsuccessful until they use some common sense, no ma moreResolved Question: CA American Government Help! Unit 5 Lesson 8!?
Here is my speech so far. I like it but it feels a wee bit dry and because I'm actually tied for salutatorian, I'd like my speech to be better (no it doesn't count for grades but I still would like a better one!) Graduation Speech It was once said that “Even as one journey ends, a new one begins”. Tonight we are gathered here to celebrate the ending of the Class of 2010’s journey, which started a short twelve years ago. Our school career has taught us much since that first day we entered kindergarten. It seems like only yesterday we were led by hand into our first classroom, soon to learn our ABC’s and to make new friends. Before too long, we were able to participate on the 3 R’s committee which enabled us to plan fun activities for the entire school, such as kite day. Unfortunately I recall most of the kites spending more time on the ground than in the sky, but still. Soon after, we became proud members of the middle school where we wrote our first research papers, flung books out of windows, and attended our first school dances. This is also where we had our first tastes of responsibility from joining the sports teams, band, and chorus. We were learning a little more every day, about what it took to succeed. Even when we entered high school, these lessons continued. We learned what it took to survive Mr. Mayer’s tests, the best way to finish our homework, and how to fit twelve chapters of information on one note card for finals, all while keeping up with our homework and other after school activities. However, it wasn’t all work. I can fondly recall all the times that our float won first prize, dressing up in crazy costumes such as Darth Vader or the Joker for spirit week, and listening to Mr. Spella’s hilarious stories. Yes, those past twelve years have been quite an adventure, with but we couldn’t have done it alone. That being said, we would like to extend a huge thanks to all of our teachers, principals, and other staff members for all of their gracious help throughout the years. They helped to push us to our maximum potential and assure us of success even while we worried about failure. Without their support, understanding, and guidance, we’d be right back at square one instead of standing here tonight. But what does tonight really mean? It means that a new journey is forming before each one of us. Some of our paths may lead to college, others into the work force, and still others into the armed forces, where we will face new challenges and obstacles. I know that we’re all feeling a little overwhelmed at the thought of this change, but I’m not too worried. After all, I know what we have been through together and what we have achieved. The fact that we’re all sitting here tonight proves that we have the passion to get what we want and the drive to work for it. When I look out among my classmates I see future business owners, physicists, zoologists, people who are willing to work now for a better tomorrow. I see people that are going to be the movers and shakers of this world, and I’m proud to be one of them. As you can see, the future is in good hands. So my fellow classmates, I wish to thank you for all of the fun times we shared and to reassure you, once more, that I believe in all of us to achieve our dreams. But before we all go our separate ways, I’d like to read to you the immortal words of Doctor Seuss. Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places! You're off and away! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. "white collar" world of business affairs .After nearly two decades of owning my own union construction company ,with the crash,etc I accepted a trainee position at a large insurance firm .And the woman I am seeing [often] was my "trainer' and it gets much better. I began my first week of training ,tense and over-dressed always in suit and tie as I thought normal for such work. On my first day before we said "hello" my "trainer'' complimented my choice in clothing and that although policy is casual that I not change as she had plans for me to move up and may I may as well get used to her rules.As I learned my "lesson's" a random firm swat with her hand and hairbrush for not paying attention or ? would be given,and she has a good arm! Sex is the same with me fully clothed ,always and much "tie pulling'' and her actually paddling me like a child.I'm a free spirit but by now I'm known as the "whipping boy'' by the entire office and the humiliation is as intense as the sex is almost. What is there if anything for me to do now? Quit and be jobless or what?Mimi,privacy is not an option as even with concrete walls and solid wood doors shut tightly somehow they are all 100% positive the pop,pop,pop's they hear is the sound of when she's using the paddle on me ,so that's how I earned the "whipping boy" name from them..see what I mean? moreResolved Question: Honestly, what do you think my chances are....?
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/04/06/west-virginia-coal-cited-violations/ - AP - April 06, 2010 West Virginia Coal Mine Cited for 600 Violations The disaster at the Upper Big Branch mine has focused attention on the business and safety practices of the owner, Massey Energy, a powerful and politically connected company in Appalachia known for producing big profits, as well as big piles of safety and environmental violations and big damage awards for grieving widows. JULIAN, W.Va. -- The coal mine rocked by an explosion that killed at least 25 workers in the nation's deadliest mining disaster since 1984 had been cited for 600 violations in less than a year and a half, some of them for not properly ventilating methane -- the highly combustible gas suspected in the blast. The disaster at the Upper Big Branch mine has focused attention on the business and safety practices of the owner, Massey Energy, a powerful and politically connected company in Appalachia known for producing big profits, as well as big piles of safety and environmental violations and big damage awards for grieving widows. "There are mines in this country who have operated safely for 20 years," said J. Davitt McAteer, head of the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration in the Clinton administration. "There are mines who take precautions ahead of time. There are mines who spend the money and manpower to do it." He added: "Those mines haven't been blown up." Four other miners were missing and feared dead underground in Monday's blast, believed to have been caused by a buildup of methane, a naturally occurring gas that is odorless and colorless. Last year alone, MSHA cited Upper Big Branch for 495 violations and proposed $911,802 in fines. Production more than tripled during that period, according to federal records. So far this year, the agency has found 105 violations at the mine. Upper Big Branch is one of Massey's biggest underground mines, with more than 200 employees, and it is not uncommon for big coal mines to amass hundreds of violations a year -- and to contest many of them, as Massey does. But most big mines don't have as many serious infractions as Upper Big Branch, industry experts said. At least 50 citations charge the company with "unwarrantable failure" to comply with safety standards such as following an approved ventilation plan, controlling combustible materials or designating escape routes. "I've never seen that many for one mine in a year," said Ellen Smith, editor of Mine Safety & Health News. "If you look at other mines that are the same size or bigger, they do not have the sheer number of `unwarrantable' citations that this mine has." Massey has had problems elsewhere, too. In 2006, two miners were killed in a fire at Massey's Aracoma Alma No. 1 mine. Massey settled a wrongful death lawsuit for an undisclosed sum, and its subsidiary Aracoma Coal Co. paid $4.2 million in civil and criminal penalties. Testimony showed Massey CEO Don Blankenship suggested firing two supervisors for raising concerns about conveyer belt problems just before the belt caught fire. "Massey has a history of emphasizing production," said Pittsburgh lawyer Bruce Stanley, who represented the miners' widows. "I'm concerned that they may not have learned the lessons of Aracoma." In an interview less than 24 hours after the disaster at Upper Big Branch, Blankenship insisted the mine is no more dangerous than others of comparable size, and he defended the company's track record in a perilous business. "It's natural that the enemies of coal would view Massey as the primary enemy," he said. He pointed out Massey's many innovations, such as installing steps in place of ladders and putting protective cages on underground vehicles even though the government doesn't require them. "I think that I've proven that we run safer coal mines -- you know, most of the time -- and accidents sometimes happen. We've got to figure out what happened here," he said. Kevin Stricklin, an MSHA administrator, said that the number of citations at the mine appeared high, and that he was concerned about the more serious violations. "It means the operator was aware of some of these conditions," he said. Massey is contesting 36 percent of all violations at Upper Big Branch since 2007, The Associated Press found. Overall, U.S. mine operators contest 27 percent. Challenging violations can enable a mine owner to stave off the heavier punishment that the government can impose on companies that have been deemed repeat offenders. Massey became a political and industrial powerhouse under the guidance of Blankenship, who rose from poverty to become one of corporate America's highest-paid and least apologetic executives, a guy who proudly displays moreVoting Question: I need some education advice?
I am currently studying A level psychology, English language and literature, and business studies. I have always loved English and knew I would enjoy these subjects at A level. I was planning on taking English at University and becoming an English teacher in a secondary school, until I started doing psychology. It was the lesson I took, expecting to drop after the first year, and instead have found myself passing all expectations, getting A's in every mock exam and thoroughly enjoying it. I have since wondered what kind of occupation I could aim to do, whilst at University, which would primarily involve psychology. I understand that the majority of jobs include an education at a Medical University/ School and unfortunately, due to my absence of sciences at A level, I would not be eligible to attend. Therefore I was wondering if there was any other occupations that require a psychology degree, that I could work towards for the future? This is really important, as it is going to influence my choices when it comes to deciding what I want to study at University (assuming I pass all three subjects with A*/A/B grades). Thank you for any information, Kate moreVoting Question: TEFL Business English Lesson Plan - any ideas?
I've been set this task and my tutor can't seem to explain to me what I have to do. I'm totally stuck! Any pointers gratefully accepted. Preparation for a Roleplay Activity for Intermediate Students Your class is going to take part in a roleplay activity and they will work in groups of 4. The lesson is a 90 minute one and for your final online task, you are asked to plan the first 45 minutes of the lesson; this will involve revising appropriate structures, and eliciting and presenting language suitable for the meeting. Decide what language you are going to elicit and present before the roleplay. Situation: Four managers are going to meet and decide how to reduce the running costs of a multinational manufacturing Company. (The managers come from different countries and if you wish, you can decide their nationalities.) Human Resources Manager (who is keen to minimize the affects of restructuring) Finance Manager (who believes it’s imperative to lay off staff) Sales Manager (who is optimistic about the future of the company) Marketing Manager (who believes the new marketing strategy will succeed) Aims: To increase your learners’ productive use of unfamiliar language To focus on appropriate language and intonation for meetings and discussions. (Planning the whole lesson is not part of your task; this would include the actual roleplay and possibly other activities associated with it - such as note-taking, telephone calls, emails, summarising and pair work activities with other members of the Company. In a complete lesson plan you would give learners more information about the difficulties the Company is facing and possibly suggest some of the options open to them.) You might also encourage them to discuss real situations that participants have been involved with. Your task is to think about planning your preparation for the roleplay, and to decide which language to elicit or present. Target Language: You may not have attended many formal meetings but the language and structures we use in discussions can be similar. You are going to think about the different ways people express themselves when they ask for opinions, disagree, etc in a meeting or discussion. Also think about the structures that we use when we are negotiating, expressing regrets and speculating. You will elicit and present quite a lot but remember that the participants understand much more than they produce. Just as we express ourselves differently, so will your learners - and each participant will have different areas of knowledge. Much of the language will not be at all complex. However, because there is such a choice, it must be included in your lesson plan as this will help learners to use a wider variety of language patterns. As well focusing on structures and functional language, think about pronunciation and the intonation of certain phrases. You may also include possible cultural factors moreTop Business Lesson Plan Links
