SACP, Cosatu take stock

Cosatu has expressed its discomfort with Zuma's ambiguous stance on economic policies, and the relationship between the ANC and business. The federation supported efforts to catapult Zuma to power in a concerted campaign to shift the ANC, and eventually the government, to the Left. Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi told delegates at the alliance summit earlier this month that they were not convinced that the ANC had shifted. "We will convene a (central executive committee) meeting to determine whether there has been a shift in the ANC," said Vavi. However, even after Cosatu confronted Zuma about his two-tongued policy talk, the ANC leader continued to reassure business that nothing would change if he takes over next year. He told a business summit on Sunday that "no individual will develop his or her own policies. more

Recovering a business

Fire cause undetermined

The fire was reported shortly after noon Wednesday at Anderson's Leather. Windows shattered and the building's roof collapsed. Flames and heat breached the firewall separating Anderson's from The Groove, 112 N. Santa Fe.

The Groove remains closed, and Anderson's Leather remains cordoned off with yellow tape because there still is a risk of a building collapse, Fire Marshal Roger Williams said. more
