Bonus review is a risky business
Pretty much everyone seems agreed that huge bonuses played a key role in the billions of dollars of losses suffered by banks in the wake of credit crunch. The excessive bonuses encouraged excessive risk-taking, not least because they were based on short-term revenues. Changing the bonus system would therefore reduce the risk of such damage to the financial system happening again.
Well, maybe. Bankers managed to lose vast sums before the arrival of huge bonuses. Just think back to the early 1980s, the last time banks almost brought the financial system to its knees by lending billions to Latin American countries, which promptly defaulted on the loans.
Many pundits say the problem is that bankers and traders can take their bonuses and run before it becomes clear whether the paper gains they made were real. more
Allstate could be back in business
The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation on Wednesday said Allstate Corp. has a shot at doing business in the state again.
The office said it expects to receive an affidavit signed by Allstate stating the insurance company has produced all documents requested in a state investigation into the company's business practices. Once that occurs, Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty says he will lift Allstate's suspension, which was upheld Wednesday by the 1st District Court of Appeal.
A condition for lifting the suspension was that Northbrook, Ill.-based Allstate continue to comply with Florida law and cooperate with the office's investigation, according to a news release.
Allstate (NYSE: ALL) was suspended from writing policies in Florida Jan. more
Does learning a second language translate into business success?
English is said to be the universal language of business so there is little incentive for UK managers to learn a foreign tongue. But in emerging economies such as Russia, China and South America, English is not widely spoken and Western managers who can communicate with the locals in these countries will have an edge.
So, should students learn a second language on their MBA programme so they can offer a well-rounded set of management skills?
At Cranfield School of Management, in Bedfordshire, a working knowledge of a second language is compulsory for all MBA students.
Sean Rickard, director of the full-time MBA programme, says: "We made it a requirement because we believe that in an increasingly global world we should encourage our students to communicate in at least one language other than their own."

As you can see on the first pics, we found the car near a peugeot dealer sitting in the grass. Apparently it's been there for about 10 years. The car immediately jumped to life after adding a new battery and a few drops of fuel into the carb, which was amazing considering how long it's been there. It was also mostly rust free.
It started its life as a green metallic car, but we decided to paint it the the blue color that our first 504 had. I remember to that day the moment i got my finger stuck in the door of that car when i was 5 years old.
The next set of pics was made today. As you can see from the interior shot, the car served my dad as a daily driver. Now he bought a new car and the Peugeot is on weekend duty only. Sadly, he is going to sell it (just in case anybody's interested). more
Live from New York . . . It’s the World Science Festival!
I wrote the introductory essay and came up with about two dozen answers ranging alphabetically from advertising and art to restaurants and theater. It never occurred to me to put science on the list.
But now that I see the sterling roster of speakers and events at this week's festival, I'm reconsidering. There's plenty of science getting done here — it just gets overshadowed by everything else. We tend to think of Boston, or Washington, DC., or the Bay Area as science hubs because the researchers and their institutions make up a bigger part of the cities' economies and cultures. In New York scientists have to compete for attention — not to mention real estate, whose high cost has driven some researchers away. But if they can afford to live here, scientists benefit from being so close to so many other smart people, as you can see from the makeup of the festival. more

Open Question: Do you Know The Power Of Your Touch as A Friend?
One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, "Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd." I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on. As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes. My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said, "Those guys are jerks." They really should get lives." He looked at me and said, "Hey thanks!" There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude. I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before now. I would have never hung out with a private school kid before. We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. I asked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends. He said yes. We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same of him. Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again. I stopped him and said, "Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!" He just laughed and handed me half the books. Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends. When we were seniors, we began to think about college. Kyle decided on Georgetown, and I was going to Duke. I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem. He was going to be a doctor, and I was going for business on a football scholarship. Kyle was valedictorian of our class. I teased him all the time about being a nerd. He had to prepare a speech for graduation. I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak Graduation day, I saw Kyle. He looked great. He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him. Boy, sometimes I was jealous. Today was one of those days. I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, "Hey, big guy, you'll be great!" He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful ones) and smiled. "Thanks," he said. As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began "Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends...I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story." I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. He had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. "Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable." I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. I saw his Mom and Dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile. Not until that moment did I realize it's depth. Never under estimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you can change a person's life. For better or for worse. God puts us all in each other's lives to impact one another in some way. Look for God in others. ==================================================== You now have two choices, you can: 1) Pass this on to your friends or 2) Delete it and act like it didn't touch your heart. As you can see, I took choice number 1. "Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly." There is no beginning or end.. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is mystery. Today is a gift. Send this to everyone you consider a in need of a friend. If it comes back to you, then you'll know you have a circle of friends. moreVoting Question: EYAF V2 presents Onslaught Week 4 results!! Please promo - What are your Mania predictions?

Hi everyone! I'm posing this question on behalf of my personal friend who recently got a job working as a CNA at a personal care home in Pennsylvania. Simply put, she was accused of abusing a resident and permanently suspended from her position. The office of the aging in Harrisburg was notified of the instance, pending further investigation. We're wondering if there is some sort of protocol that needs to be followed in order to investigate such a claim. We're wondering what her options are, if any, and if there is something we can do to help the situation. This all began a week or so ago when she was bathing a resident woman with dementia. The woman was doing fine for a while, but the water must have shocked her, and she began screaming for my friend to dry her off. She tried to calm the woman down. Meanwhile, a passerby coworker overheard the clamor and peeked in for a moment. She immediately went to her supervisor and filed a complaint, stating that my friend had sprayed the woman in the face in an attempt to shut up her complaining. Once this complaint had been filed, several other employees were queried regarding my friend's character, work ethic, etc. Several had mentioned that my friend made threatening remarks about the residents. One isolated instance involved a separate woman, also with dementia, who wouldn't keep her feet up while she was being pushed in a wheelchair. My friend asked her repeatedly to keep her feet up, trying to explain to her that she could get hurt if she put her feet on the ground in front of the wheelchair while it was moving. The person who cited this instance told her superior that she believed my friend was actually threatening the resident with injury if she didn't listen. I believe the approximate language my friend used was something along the lines of, "Pick your feet up, Mary, you don't want to get hurt, do you?" I think that her actions are well justified. I've known her for years, and even wrote her letter of reference myself. I know that she would never hurt someone, especially someone as helpless as a disabled resident. Her maternal instincts are exemplary for a girl her age, and I really hate to think that this kind of injustice can be done to someone who tries so hard. Apparently, her workplace is such that the other girls working there are extremely unprofessional. It's like a group of schoolgirls being jealous over something simple like a Coach bag. I don't know much about the administration of the care home, but it can reasonably be assumed that there's some sort of order there or else they wouldn't have remained in business for very long. My friend's residents love her, and she loves her job. Her coworkers may not like her, but she isn't there to see them. She's just there to do her job. Her superior launched an investigation into her behavior at work, and after consulting enough 'character witnesses', they felt that they had enough information to substantiate the claim, and suspended her permanently. Note that not a single person has claimed to have actually seen anything. Everything is based on what someone said about someone else. Is this type of action against an employee legal? Can she take action against her employer? Such a black mark on her record exclusively bans her from ever working in the medical industry again, and she was planning to become and RN in the future. Any and all legal and practical advice will be greatly appreciated. Does anyone know anything about this? Lawyers? Nurses? Thanks so much! moreResolved Question: Economics lesson 11 unit test. I am trying to put together an plan of action for purchasing a local business. It is a hotel, and I live in a smaller town with only five total hotels. With the purchase of this business I would also like to get green certification over a period of the next 5 years, and put a pool in, as no other hotel in town has one. The hotel itself costs $300,000 and I would like to know, how do I go about getting a loan for this amount? I moved to Canad from the states back in October 2009. I opened a bank account completely separate from my husband. He owes about $25,000 in taxes to Revenue Canada. He was making payments until last summer when he lost his job. Since he couldn't find work, he was living off his credit cards. Revenue Canada contacted him when he stopped making payments and he let them know about the situation. They sent him some paperwork he filled out and out of good faith he made a $100 payment and told them he would pay more when he could. When I moved here we didn't think I would have any problems finding work, but even after almost 6 months I was only able to get a month seasonal job during Christmas, otherwise no one will even give me an interview. In the meantime my husband has started a small business that just barely covers our monthly living expenses (this was back in December). At the same time he received a letter from Revenue Canada stating if he didn't fill out this form that authorized them to pry into every nook and cranny of our lives for the past 10 years, they would proceed with legal action. Since it was Christmas we couldn't get an appointment to see an attorney to find out what our options were so he sent a letter to Revenue Canada asking them for an additional 30 days to consult a lawyer and he would get back to them. After talking to the lawyer, my husband make several attempts to contact Revenue Canada. never hearing back or being able to get a hold of the person he was dealing with. Before we knew it, they seized his bank account and took what little money that was in it. Miraculously when he called Revenue Canada to find out what happened he got a hold of the guy and he told him basically any money that goes in Revenue Canada will take and they were proceeding with legal actions. When he told him he kept trying to get in contact with him, the guy played dumb like he never got any of his messages. So my questions are 1) what are our options? We can negotiate a payment plan but there is no way we can pay off all the debt in 2 years like they want especially since I can't get anyone to hire me. and 2) can revenue Canada seize my bank accounts as well even though it is solely my account and not a joint account? What I have already done was this... Master of Business Administration: Master of Business Administration is a master's degree in business administration, which attracts people from a wide range of academic disciplines. The MBA designation originated in the United States, emerging from the late 19th century as the country industrialized and companies sought out scientific approaches to management. The core courses in the MBA program are designed to introduce students to the various areas of business such as finance, marketing, human resources, operations management, etc. Students in some MBA programs have the option to select an area of concentration and focus approximately one-third of their studies in this area. Management: Management in all business and human organization activity is the act of getting people together to accomplish desired goals or objectives. Management comprises of planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling an organization. Basic functions of management: Planning: Deciding what needs to happen in the future (today, next week, next month, next year, over the next 5 years, etc.) and generating plans for action. From his website it seems he is putting words in their mouths. Are they ignorant or does he believe them ignorant? DISCUSSION POINTS These points are only to provide extra information and suggestions. Your personal story will make the most compelling message. For most Americans, their health care plan covers too little and costs too much. Far too many people delay or even skip the care they need because they simply can’t afford it. The plan the President laid out includes the largest health care tax cut for middle class families in history and makes coverage more affordable for tens of millions of families and small business owners and expands coverage to over 31 million Americans who are currently uninsured. This plan will give millions of Americans new choices in health insurance by making coverage more affordable, ending the denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions, putting power in the hands of consumers instead of insurance companies and providing one of the largest tax cuts in history while also reducing our national deficit. Reform couldn’t be more urgent – just this month consumers in California were told their premiums could go up as much as 39 percent. Too many in Washington are now saying that we should delay or give up on reform entirely, but Americans understand the stakes for our economy and our lives, and we want action. http://radio.barackobama.com/You guys answered the question for me....his followers are ignorant and need to be spoonfed. moreResolved Question: Which political view do you agree with the most?
Conservative Conservatives tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently support laws to restrict personal behavior that violates "traditional values." They oppose excessive government control of business, while endorsing government action to defend morality and the traditional family structure. Conservatives usually support a strong military, oppose bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market economy, and endorse strong law enforcement. Liberal Liberals usually embrace freedom of choice in personal matters, but tend to support significant government control of the economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net" to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations, defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles. Libertarian Libertarians support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties. Centrist Centrists espouse a "middle ground" regarding government control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes support individual freedom of choice. Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind, tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what they describe as "practical" solutions to problems. Statist (Big Government) Statists want government to have a great deal of power over the economy and individual behavior. They frequently doubt whether economic liberty and individual freedom are practical options in today's world. Statists tend to distrust the free market, support high taxes and centralized planning of the economy, oppose diverse lifestyles, and question the importance of civil liberties moreResolved Question: World of Warcraft account problem?

PLEASE help me decide.?
I am mentally ill. Last semester I managed[how?] to pull out a 4.0 but this semester[only a month has passed] I am off to a bad start. I came to figure out that I hate lab work. I just hate it so that means that any dream of a science career is NOT for me. So if I were to drop these courses it wouldn't be so bad. I think I'm going to switch to accounting or business. My problems are: My first year of uni was not good I dropped without withdrawing, I am depressed, and I am not a people person. I feel that I would like it better if I didn't have these type of classes. I am only taking 3 courses: General Chem II, General Physics I, and Calculus II. I was planning on dropping everything except Calculus II or just dropping Physics because I would need General Chemistry II as part of my general education requirements. Please, PLEASE let me know the pros and cons of such actions.Drop everything except Calculus II and save enough money to pay for summer classes?or a language degree.or economics. My economics professor said that I should major in economics. moreVoting Question: Is Anyone Crazy Enough To Do This?
BRODIE’S BOARDS: Making business suggestions Please review the sources and considerations below to help you answer the four “business plan actions” at the bottom: Source One: There are several steps, materials, and tools involved in making surfboards. The basic materials needed are foam, fiberglass sheets, resin, and catalyst. To hand-make a board, the builder will need a saw, electric planer, cheese-grate planer, sand paper, gloves, respirators, a broom, good fluorescent lighting, squeegies, and a space big enough for all of this stuff. Building a board is broken up into several steps. Check out this website to see some of the details. Keep in mind that these represent only a part of the process. Source Two: This website shows some of the basics about shaping surfboards. http://www.answers.com/topic/surfboard Website on investing in capital to expand production: http://www.amosweb.com/cgi-bin/awb_nav.pl?s=wpd&c=dsp&k=investment,+production+possibilities Website on Captial goods investment: http://www.dallasfed.org/educate/everyday/ev1.html Source Three:Brodie is a surfboard builder. He is currently doing all the stages of production, from the first cut of the foam, to the final stroke of the resin to laminate the board. Since Brodie is an experienced shaper, it takes him about 2 weeks to shape and laminate a board so that it is ready to ride. (few hours on shaping and up to two weeks on the lamination and curing.) Brodie has a number of costs to consider when he is making and selling his boards. Basic costs: surfboard blank: $75 Rent on the space $100/month Resin: $15/per board Fiber glass cloth $21/per board Hours of labor 12 hours/board Source Four: Visit the websites below to support your understanding of marginal cost, marginal product, and the law of diminishing returns. http://hspm.sph.sc.edu/COURSES/ECON/Cost/Cost.html http://hspm.sph.sc.edu/COURSES/ECON/MCost/MCost.html http://ingrimayne.com/econ/TheFirm/ProductionFunct.html Source Five: Check out this site about investing in Human Capital. http://nashville.bizjournals.com/nashville/stories/2003/06/23/smallb5.html Consider the following issues: *Brodie is a great surfboard shaper. He can shape a board pretty quickly and deliver a good product. He feels that he is a bit slow at glassing though. He spends about an extra 2 hours per board than many of the other laminators that he knows. *The town that Brodie lives in has just passed a law that lifted the tax on the use of the foam that he uses to makes his boards. *With the rising of oil prices, the cost of his foam and his resin (oil based products) has been rising over the last several months. *The local laminating shop told Brodie that they would laminate his boards for $150 a board. (The average cost per board is $170). *There are several people who have asked if Brodie needs any help around the shop shaping, sanding, sweeping etc… They are willing to work for $10 an hour. *There are two other surfboard shapers in Brodie’s town * When entrepreneurs succeed in their business ventures, more goods and services are available for consumption. Successful business ventures also increase the employment opportunities available to people within an economy. As you have seen, there are many risks involved in starting your own business. While there are various business structures available, you can never avoid all possible risks when creating your own business. There are many incentives that entrepreneurs consider when assuming the risks involved in creating their own business. A business owner may be motivated by the incentive of a sense of satisfaction involved in provided a certain good or service to the community. Often times, entrepreneurs enjoy the sense of being their own boss and some of the potential and hard earned freedoms that come along with that responsibility. The expectation of a profit is a common incentive for many entrepreneurs. They believe that they can offer a good or service that will make them money. moreResolved Question: How can citizens of USA take their country "BACK" without a plan of action & identifying the right corrections?
The highest priority for anyone of logic should be their own financial security first and gaining the direct citizen shared legal rule & control over money/business/govt to do it. Most will never achieve that under a Republic of/by/for the wealthy few! You need a True direct daily Democracy of/by/for the citizens to gain the correct legal power for a society that benefits a majority will and interest. Voting them out or going to a 3rd or 4th party is no solution. Representative govt must be replaced by citizens with full legislative power. moreResolved Question: Can Obama's Presidency be Saved?
Best Path for Obama -- Do You agree? Obama meant to say that he fears the GOP may become obstructionist now that they have 41 votes. He knows that his own party members are what obstructed him up to this point -- he had the 60 votes. So is his best path to hope that the GOP people will join Obama's Marxist Agenda? That would be political suicide for them. They would be tossed out along with Dems in the Fall of 2010. So now let's see, if they are not going to join him, what else could happen? He could join them. Do I mean their greedy money grabbing, money swindling Wild Wild West no regulations agenda started under the great one Ronald Reagan, and continued to the point of moronic imbecility by G.W. Bush until finally he made a vast economic train wreck of the entire world? No, actually, I don't mean that. I want to put all that laissez-faire nonsense to one side and consider if there is anything else in the world apart from regulation of business? Well, yes, it turns out there is. Plenty of stuff. OK, Barry just join the GOP on all things that do no harm and which they are ready to rock and roll on. How many bills does that come to? Probably around 500 - 700 bills. And enacting these would do no harm -- not serve the corporate greedy pig machine in a totally one-sided way? Right! These bills would be on other matters not regulation of business. So why is joining the GOP my best alternative. Barry you have no other. You want to save your good name. You want to save your Presidency. You don't want to be compared to Filmore and Carter, right? So make your Presidency an action Presidency with lots of stuff getting done --- just not your Marxist stuff -- and not the greedy pig Wild Wild West stuff. There's a whole continent of common ground out there -- 500 to 700 bills that could get done. Some of them would solve real problems for Americans. Would this get me re-elected? Barry, nothing would get you re-elected, if Jesus Christ came down from heaven and stood by your side and said, "Barry is my guy" you still will not be re-elected. So why triangulate away from my agenda and adopting the nonharmful parts of the GOP agenda? Man of honor, patriot, person who cares about USA, person who cares about their good name, man who does not want his Presidency to be even worse than G.W. Bush (if that's imaginable) -- do any of these word ring a bell for you?? Well, I can sort of tell what you're saying Dolphin314etc, so yes, they do! OK Barry then just do it. Just save yourself, help the country, help your party, be a guy who salvages a decent result out of a really ruinous situation. What am I going to tell my staff? Boys, I have a new plan. Remember I talked about change -- well this is gonna be a change -- fasten your seat belts. The question is too easy, let me throw in a couple of twists. The GOP goes ahead and creates the Palin/Huckabee ticket to run against Barry in 2012. Palin seems OK for the first minute and a half after she gets the GOP nomination. Then, she goes off script and starts talking just based on her own real world experience and general knowledge. She comes across as a ditzy-gaga-doodle of the most airbrained variety. Massive buyer regret on the GOP side. She won't stop blathering her vacuous beauty queen talk, she won't shut up. She self destructs politically so completely that the debates are cancelled -- nobody wants to see her debate a Harvard lawyer -- not his friends, not her friends, nobody. Now Barry come limping to the ballot box, sort of like Castro, completely un-made-over sticking to his old Marxist guns, full speed ahead. I say, that would be a real close call. Too close to call from this distance. Barry main chance if he wants to stay an unreformed Marxist is Sarah moreResolved Question: Best Path for Obama -- Do You agree?

FACTBOX - Tax details of US stimulus plan Tue Feb 17, 2009 9:20pm GMT Feb 17 (Reuters) - The $787 billion U.S. economic stimulus package contains about $287 billion in tax cuts, according to the latest congressional calculations on the value of the package and its impact on U.S. budget deficits. President Barack Obama signed the bill on Tuesday, saying he wants quick action to boost the struggling economy. Here are some of the major tax provisions in the bill: FOR WORKERS, CONSUMERS AND RETIREES * A "making work pay" refundable tax credit championed by Obama of up to $400 per individual and $800 for couples in 2009 and 2010. It is calculated at a rate of 6.2 percent of earned income and is phased out for individuals with adjusted incomes over $75,000 and couples with incomes over $150,000. * A one-time payment of $250 to Social Security beneficiaries, railroad retirees and veterans receiving benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs. State government retirees not eligible for Social Security would also get the $250 payment. * Increases the earned income tax credit for low-income workers with three or more children. * Increases eligibility for the refundable child tax credit to more low-income workers. The bill reduces the income floor to $3,000 in 2009 and 2010 from the current floor of $8,500. * A new $2,500 tax credit for college education expenses. The credit phases out for individuals earning more than $80,000 and couples with incomes over $160,000. * An $8,000 tax credit for first-time home buyers for homes purchased between Jan. 1 and Dec. 1, 2009. The tax credit phases out for individuals earning more than $75,000 and couples earning more than $150,000. * Temporary relief from the alternative minimum tax for millions of middle-class taxpayers who otherwise would be ensnared by the tax originally meant for the very wealthy. FOR BUSINESSES * Small businesses with gross receipts of up to $15 million can write off 2008 losses against five previous tax years. Current laws allows a two-year carryback of losses. Businesses will also be allowed to immediately write off more of their investments in computers and other equipment. * Businesses that repurchase debt at a lower amount than when it was issued will be able to defer taxes on it. Usually reduced or canceled debt is treated as income and taxed. The break applies to debt repurchased adjusted after Dec. 31, 2008, and before Jan. 1, 2011. * A tax break on capital gains from the sale of stock held in a small business for more than five years. * The bill raises about $7 billion in revenues by repealing a Treasury Department decision last year to liberalize rules that were intended to prevent companies in a merger from taking huge tax breaks on losses of firms they were acquiring. FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS * Creates a new category of tax-preferred bonds for investment in economic recovery zones for job training, education and economic development. * Creates a new category of tax-preferred bonds for the construction, and repair of public schools and the purchase of land for schools. * Creates a federal subsidy for state and local governments offering bonds that give investors credits against their federal taxes in place of interest payments. FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY * Extends tax breaks for wind facilities and other renewable energy facilities and provides other tax incentives to encourage development of renewable energy facilities. * Authorizes an additional $1.6 billion of new clean renewable energy bonds as well as $2.4 billion of energy conservation bonds to finance state and local government projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. * Extends tax credits for energy-efficient improvements to existing homes. * Provides a tax credit for purchase of "plug-in" electric vehicles of at least $2,500. The credit is increased depending on the battery capacity of the car purchased. * Provides a new 30 percent investment tax credit for facilities engaged in producing renewable energy technology and conservation. Obama said he would reach across the aisle for good ideas, and he is doing just that. He is an inclusive president, a new breed in Washington. Obama is still supporting the military and Michelle is setting up programs for their families. Obama is giving small business owners tax breaks, and local banks. The few democrat things hes's tried to do, republicans are fighting him tooth and nail. Well maybe not so much fighting but simply refusing to participate in the governing process. If I was a tax payer, I'd be upset if my representative didn't do anything to try and get a few idea's into action. So I put my camera up for sale on the net at $1450. A guy asked to buy and I said PAYPAL only. He said he could only do cashier's check or money order so I agreed to money order because it can be easily checked by the bank as to whether or not it's real. I just received the fedex today but there's a problem. There were 5 money order checks at $950 each, totaling to $4750. That's an extra $3300. I e-mailed him asking what the hell was going but he hasn't replied yet. Here's my legal question: Prior to this, we agreed upon this business transaction at $1450. He agreed to send me that much and thus I waited a week for it to arrive. He didn't tell me that an extra $3,300 would be arriving. If I kept the extra $3,300 could I be sued? Unless he says it was an honest mistake, I don't plan on sending it back because this is causing me enough stress. And if he's like one of those scammers that tell me to forward the $3,300 to a shipping company, can I refuse and keep the $3,300? I just want to keep all the money and avoid legal actions because this would really help out on some bills but I want to make sure it's okay. So, I had a business trip for 3 days and was hoping to stay the weekend, as thats where my family is from. I havent been getting along with my dad, and my work wanted me to pay the fare difference to change my flight from the Fri, to the Sun, so I came home. When I found out about the trip, I had tickets to the hockey game the weekend was planning on staying in Ontario... so I said if my work lets me stay I want my bf to take my other friend. So, I didnt end up staying, so I went to the hockey game. I recieved a call from my friend, telling me off, as I didnt tell them I was going to use the ticket. Is that reasonable? I hadnt talked to her in 2 weeks. I think its pretty rude of her, what do you think? moreResolved Question: What is the ein number or federal ID # for Wystar Retirement ( which is a part of Wachovia)?

Ball on reforming parole guidelines January21From state Assemblyman Greg Ball, R-Patterson: IN LIGHT OF DONOHUE SENTENCING, BALL AIMS TO REFORM STATE’S PAROLE GUIDELINES Following the sentencing of Conses Garcia-Zacarias earlier this week, Assemblyman Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) has pledged to reform the state’s parole guidelines and to renew his call that state lawmakers immediately take action to enact a “zero tolerance” for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) law statewide. Ball is the main sponsor of such legislation, which he drafted in response to the death of Lori and Kayla Donohue, the Brewster mother and daughter who were killed by Garcia-Zacarias, an illegal alien who was driving while intoxicated. “Regretfully, the current maximum sentence of 8? years to 25 years is not enough. And sadly, with our state’s current parole guidelines, this killer could be released in one-sixth of that time. Idiotically, corrections Law 803, Section 2, Subsection A outlines the maximum parole for convicts serving concurrent sentences is one-sixth the minimum sentence and one-third the minimum sentence for those serving consecutive sentences. This is despicable and insensitive in this case and a perfect case of New York’s revolving door justice. This is exactly why the crime of DWI continues to pervade our community. The victims of DWI deserve better than that, our community deserves better than that, and I am determined not only to heighten sentences for those who choose to get behind the wheel drunk and murder others, but to reform our state’s broken parole system as well,” said Ball. Ball now is taking a hard look at the state’s parole guidelines and aiming to heighten them. He stated, “We need to move forward aggressively and intelligently at the local level to make Putnam safer in the wake of this tragedy. This was no accident and could have been prevented. Now, elected officials must do everything in our power to keep residents safe.” On June 8, 2010 2009 both Assemblyman Ball and the entire Brewster community were shocked to the core when Garcia-Zacarias drove drunk into the 8-year-old second grader and her mother as they were leaving the Seven Stars School of Performing Arts. Garcia-Zacarias had a blood-alcohol level of twice the legal limit and no driver’s license. Following the devastating tragedy, Ball vowed to reform the state and county DWI laws and formed a coalition of state and local lawmakers, law enforcement and business owners who all aimed to finally curb the high instances of DWIs in the Hudson Valley and prevent deaths like these from happening again. Last summer, Ball announced the coalition’s plan, which included agreements to implement a designated driver program, creation of a Task Force on DWI through the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office, implementation of mandatory countywide TIPS-certified training for bar owners and employees and a public awareness campaign, as well as strengthening countywide DWI laws to include mandatory ignition interlocks, SCRAM bracelets and vehicle seizure. On a state level, Ball authored and introduced the toughest DWI legislation in the nation. His statewide bill would heighten all penalties for driving under the influence or DWIs. Ball is in the process of further strengthening the bill to include the strictest possible sentences for those who kill someone while driving under the influence. While Albany agreed to heighten some penalties through the enactment of Leandra’s Law (with Ball’s support) in November, which increases penalties for those who drive drunk with children in the car, a zero-tolerance statewide law was not put on the books. In 2007, Ball also voted to enact Katie Flynn’s Law, which created the crimes of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, a class B felony and Aggravated Vehicular Assault, a class C felony. “I support Assemblyman Ball’s initiative to tighten parole laws to help ensure offenders, who continue to pose a danger, do not obtain early release from prison. Justice demands that someone who takes a life while committing a crime, must pay his debt to society,” Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith said. “The closing of loopholes in New York sentencing guidelines is necessary. This illegal alien criminal, by actions of his own choosing, took the lives of two of our neighbors and friends. The DWI aspects of these deaths are only half of the story; sadly, the problem of criminal activity among the illegal alien population in our area can only be addressed when our elected officials recognize the scope of the problem and address it in a uniform, consistent way. This means enforcing existing laws and fully prosecuting those individuals who employ illegal aliens,” Ed Kowalski of 9/11 Families for a Secure America said. Ball stated, “We need to do everything in our power to keep residents safe. That is the most important priority state lawmakers have. With more than 15 million Americans out of work, one can only hope he keeps his promise sooner rather than later. With support for the health care bill in shambles and unemployment still in double figures, President Obama is reportedly going to "pivot" to jobs. Sound familiar? That's because every few weeks it seems President Obama and his team make the same empty promise that they are finally going to focus on creating jobs. The most recent example comes in today's Washington Post with a story entitled After Massachusetts loss, Democrats vow to focus on economy, jobs. CNN had a similar headline: Obama to focus hard on economy after Democratic loss. Troublingly, the rhetoric doesn't match the reality. Two weeks ago, Politico had a similar headline: President Obama pivots to jobs as key theme. And remember the much-hyped jobs summit in December? What ideas from the event ever came to fruition? In November, the President said job creation was "my administration's overriding focus." Oh really? Double digit unemployment and yet they still lack a jobs plan would say otherwise and green jobs is not going to do it.. Promises to focus on jobs aren't a recent phenomenon either. When he was inaugurated one year ago, President Obama said that the "The state of our economy calls for action, bold and swift." If by bold and swift you mean a $787 billion big government stimulus that diverted money from taxpayers to a bureaucratic boondoggle with no real job growth to show for it, then yes, the President's actions have been bold and swift. But if you believe incentivizing small businesses and entrepreneurs would be a better course of action, then we have yet to see any real bold and swift plan for job creation from the Obama administration. Our Jobs First plan is aimed specifically at rewarding job creators, and if the President is serious about his latest "pivot" to jobs, he should take a look at it.http://www.americansolutions.com/take-action/2010/01/obama-pelosi-reid-the-people-are-speaking----are-you-listening.phpBooya-- that was good and to you that say our health care sux go to Canada and live..Century2...--some of what you say I agree with but it not just the GOP it is also the Democrat ...We The People will have got to show them ppl in Washington we mean business..and Mass show us this can happen. moreResolved Question: ARE Americans practicing Communism?
Communism, by any other name is still communism, and is VERY VERY destructive to the individual and to the society!! The 10 PLANKS stated in the Communist Manifesto and some of their American counterparts are... 1. Abolition of private property and the application of all rents of land to public purposes. Americans do these with actions such as the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution (1868), and various zoning, school & property taxes. Also the Bureau of Land Management (Zoning laws are the first step to government property ownership) 2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax. Americans know this as misapplication of the 16th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, 1913, The Social Security Act of 1936.; Joint House Resolution 192 of 1933; and various State "income" taxes. We call it "paying your fair share". 3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance. Americans call it Federal & State estate Tax (1916); or reformed Probate Laws, and limited inheritance via arbitrary inheritance tax statutes. 4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels. Americans call it government seizures, tax liens, Public "law" 99-570 (1986); Executive order 11490, sections 1205, 2002 which gives private land to the Department of Urban Development; the imprisonment of "terrorists" and those who speak out or write against the "government" (1997 Crime/Terrorist Bill); or the IRS confiscation of property without due process. Asset forfeiture laws are used by DEA, IRS, ATF etc...). 5. Centralization of credit in the hands of the state, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly. Americans call it the Federal Reserve which is a privately-owned credit/debt system allowed by the Federal Reserve act of 1913. All local banks are members of the Fed system, and are regulated by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) another privately-owned corporation. The Federal Reserve Banks issue Fiat Paper Money and practice economically destructive fractional reserve banking. 6. Centralization of the means of communications and transportation in the hands of the State. Americans call it the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Department of Transportation (DOT) mandated through the ICC act of 1887, the Commissions Act of 1934, The Interstate Commerce Commission established in 1938, The Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Communications Commission, and Executive orders 11490, 10999, as well as State mandated driver's licenses and Department of Transportation regulations. 7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state, the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan. Americans call it corporate capacity, The Desert Entry Act and The Department of Agriculture… Thus read "controlled or subsidized" rather than "owned"… This is easily seen in these as well as the Department of Commerce and Labor, Department of Interior, the Environmental Protection Agency, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Mines, National Park Service, and the IRS control of business through corporate regulations. 8. Equal liability of all to labor. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture. Americans call it Minimum Wage and slave labor like dealing with our Most Favored Nation trade partner; i.e. Communist China. We see it in practice via the Social Security Administration and The Department of Labor. The National debt and inflation caused by the communal bank has caused the need for a two "income" family. Woman in the workplace since the 1920's, the 19th amendment of the U.S. Constitution, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, assorted Socialist Unions, affirmative action, the Federal Public Works Program and of course Executive order 11000. 9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries, gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country, by a more equitable distribution of population over the country. Americans call it the Planning Reorganization act of 1949 , zoning (Title 17 1910-1990) and Super Corporate Farms, as well as Executive orders 11647, 11731 (ten regions) and Public "law" 89-136. These provide for forced relocations and forced sterilization programs, like in China. 10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production. Americans are being taxed to support what we call 'public' schools, but are actually "government force-tax-funded schools " Even private schools are government regulated. The purpose is to train the young to work for the communal debt system. We also call it the Department of Education, the NEA and Outcome Based "Education" . These are used so that all children can be indoctrinated and inculcated with the government propaganda, like "majority rules", and "pay yofair share". WHERE are the words "fair share" in the Constitution, Bill of Rights or the Internal Revenue Code (Title 26)?? NO WHERE is "fair share" even suggested !! The philosophical concept of "fair share" comes from the Communist maxim, "From each according to their ability, to each according to their need! This concept is pure socialism. ... America was made the greatest society by its private initiative WORK ETHIC ... The Rev. Rudolph Juarez wants to provide a sense of security that many Iowa City residents take for granted. Juarez is a member of the Sanctuary City Committee, an organization striving to provide basic needs to immigrants in Iowa City, regardless of legal status. “We’re looking at people’s rights,” said Juarez, a pastor at St. Patrick’s Church, 4330 St. Patrick’s Drive. Juarez and other committee members said they want Iowa City to adopt a sanctuary ordinance that would ban employers and, in some cases, police agencies from asking people about their legal status. Immigrants would be able to report crimes or call authorities without fear of having to provide legal documentation, Juarez said. “We want to make the Iowa City and Coralville area a welcoming community for all people regardless of status,” he said. The first step is education and awareness, he said. The Sanctuary City Committee plans to take that step in a public forum at 7 p.m. today in the Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn St. “This is our first sort of coming-out meeting,” said Sarah Swisher, a member of the Sanctuary City Committee. Planning and organization of the committee began in early 2009, she said. She noted that two of the largest illegal immigration raids in the United States occurred in Iowa — the 2006 Swift & Co. raid in Marshalltown and Postville’s Agriprocessors Inc. raid in 2008 — and raised the need for action. There are more than 50 sanctuary cities in the United States, she said, including Chicago, Minneapolis, and Madison, Wis. There are none in Iowa. The designation is often meant to show that the local government will not become actively involved with federal immigration matters. Adding Iowa City to the list of sanctuary cities would not only give struggling immigrants security and potential for employment, it would also make the area a more enticing community, said Pastor Karla Stoltzfus Detweiler, also a member of the Sanctuary City Committee. “We’re encouraging an attitude of welcome for all ethnicities and origins,” she said. But Robert Ussery, director of the Des Moines chapter of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps — an organization dedicated to seeing the U.S. borders secured against unlawful and unauthorized entry — opposes sanctuary cities. “It’s a slap in the face to all hardworking immigrants who came here legally,” he said, and, in his opinion, sanctuary cities are a violation of federal law. Ussery argued that cities taking sanctuary status will see such repercussions as boycotts at businesses or athletics events. The Iowa City City Council will make a decision regarding a sanctuary ordinance. Members of the Iowa City Human Rights Commission believe Iowa City residents and officials need ample information before making a decision, said Dianne Day, the vice chairwoman of the commission http://www.dailyiowan.com/2010/01/21/Metro/15112.html moreResolved Question: Who is looking forward to the return of the inflation tax?
"In order to raise enough money to make their plan look like it won't add to the deficit, House Democrats have deliberately not indexed two main tax features of their plan: the $500,000 threshold for the 5.4-percentage-point income tax surcharge; and the payroll level at which small businesses must pay a new 8% tax penalty for not offering health insurance. This is a sneaky way for politicians to pry more money out of workers every year without having to legislate tax increases. The negative effects of failing to index compound over time, yielding a revenue windfall for government as the years go on." So, this revenue windfall is the true motivation behind the actions of the current administration. No kidding? I thought they cared about the American people with all of their government assistance programs and desires to help the "underdogs" and all that. What a terrible shock to my system. A Cave of Robbers JESUS had ample reason to say that greedy merchants had turned God's temple into "a cave of robbers." (Matthew 21:12, 13) To pay the temple tax, Jews and proselytes from other lands had to exchange their foreign money for acceptable currency. In his book The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah, Alfred Edersheim explains that money changers used to set up their businesses in the provinces on Adar 15, a month before Passover. Beginning on Adar 25, they moved into the temple area in Jerusalem to capitalize on the tremendous influx of Jews and proselytes. Dealers ran a thriving business, charging a fee for every piece of money exchanged. Jesus' reference to them as robbers suggests that their fees were so excessive that they were, in effect, extorting money from the poor. Some could not bring their own sacrificial animals. Anyone who did so had to have the animal examined by an inspector at the temple—for a fee. Not wanting to risk having an animal rejected after bringing it a long distance, many bought a Levitically "approved" one from corrupt dealers at the temple. "Many a poor peasant was well fleeced there," says one scholar. There is evidence that onetime high priest Annas and his family had a vested interest in the temple merchants. Rabbinic writings speak of "the [temple] Bazaars of the sons of Annas." Revenue from the money changers and from the sale of animals within the temple grounds was one of their main sources of income. One scholar says that Jesus' action in evicting the merchants "was aimed not only at the prestige of the priests but at their pockets." Be that as it may, his enemies surely wanted to do away with him!—Luke 19:45-48. Pope calls for peace in 2010 USA TODAY News of Religion. The former Democratic governor of California was elected as a pro-labor liberal. However, once in office, he turned further right, backing business-sponsored revisions to California's labor laws, and opposing a raise in the minimum wage, among other disastrous moves. Davis' supporters deserted him in droves, and his tax increases did not cause conservatives to switch to supporting him. If you alienate your friends and fail to win over your enemies, you are left with no one. Davis lost his job through a recall vote, and was replaced not by a conservative, as the sponsors of the recall petition wanted, but by center-right Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger. Obama's health care bill is a giveaway to the insurance companies, not the hoped-for health care reform. Unions who supported him are now angry because of the proposed tax on their members' health plans. He has funneled billion$ to Wall Street. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan appear as never-ending as they were under Bush. Abortion rights are in danger due to the reduction of medical practices that offer them, and the procedure is barred from the new health plan. There have been no initiatives on anti-racist measures. No significant action has taken place on "don't ask, don't tell." There is still a recession, and jobs are still going down the tubes Since he is alienating his supporters, but the conservatives (obviously) still hate him, and they have not regained any of their massive credibility losses from Bush and then Palin, could Obama lose his reelection campaign to a "moderate" Republican? Or even be the first president since Lyndon Johnson to be pushed out of his party's nomination by candidates that at least postured to be further to the left? I don't care who you personally support. The story is .... I worked for a very small startup company last year for two months, from May 2009 to July 2009. One day, the owner of the company asked me to loan him $5000 ($5K). I loaned him very easy $5K. I didn't think twice. I trusted him & believed he'll pay back the loan on time because he's my boss & owner of a company. They let me go after two months. They said the business is very slow. They don't have money. They had to put the project on hold. The loan payment due date is on December 25, 2009. I sent him a reminder email on December 1, 2009 to remind him that the due date. He kept quiet, no response from him. Later on, I sent a second notice around on Dec 30, 2009 and said that if I don't hear anything from him, I'll come in his office to pickup the money. Finally, I got response from him and set appointment to meet him at his office on Jan 6, 2010. When I came in, he acted the a boss, a controller. He talked about my work in the past in this company. But I said to him that this's personal. I loaned you $5000. I'm here today to get my money back. I don't want to talk about my work in the past because it's absolutely not related to the loan. This's personal you and me. And then he said he doesn't have $5K to pay back now. He changed to the subject and kept talking about my work at his company. This guy careless about what I said, didn't focus on the loan, and tried to play some kind of a game. So I said the conversation is dead. I walked out, went home. The way he talked and his attitude, clearly made me think that this guy got a plan. He had intension no paying back my loan. If someone has difficult time and has intension to pay back the loan, then that person should say something like "I'm really sorry I cann't pay you back on time because I have ..... Can you please ....." This guy never said sorry or please to me. I heard this guy bought a $700,000 house, and currently still own a business. So this guy he could figure out a way to get the money to pay back my loan. But he didn't do so. I have Installment Promissory Note with Balloon Payment and a signature of a witness. By the way, the witness is co-founder and his partner. This's my first time to loan someone that much money. Now, I have to face a stupid problem. I needed help and guidelines. Can someone please guide me with the details steps that I should take to make him to pay back my loan without paying any fee for lawyer or court? I have heard about Small Claims Court but don't much about it. Is it the only way? How much it will charge me? Where do I get more information about Small Claims Court to start the process. Praesepe plc is an AIM listed company with the specific purpose of consolidating the very fragmented UK and European AGC (the technical phrase for Amusement Arcades) industry. The plan is to build a business by acquisition with EBITDA of £100m within 2 years and to exit, via means of a trade sale, on an 8x multiple. The CEO, Nick Harding, started this journey once before as CEO of Talarius plc. From June 05 to Jan 07 he grew Talarius to become the largest UK AGC operator (200 sites), taking the share price from 80p to 280p in the process. His plans for Talarius were cut short – in a nice way – by an earlier than expected, acceptable offer to sell to an Australian based trade buyer on a 9x multiple. The expectation was that Talarius, under its new ownership, would continue with its acquisition plans but, due to problems in its home market, it hasn’t. Nick’s no compete clause expired and he began the same journey again with Praesepe. This time he and his main backers are more determined to reach the £100m EBITDA target and an early buy out offer is, therefore, less likely to be accepted. Praesepe is at the early stage of its journey. At the time of writing it has 54 sites across the UK, EBITDA for the 6 months to July 09 of £1.14m, a strong deal pipeline and a market capitalisation of £17.8m. The main shareholder (38.5%) is Marwyn – a big backer (and beneficiary) of Talarius previously. It is committed to the plan and is unlikely to sell out before the target exit. Depending on the size of the business being bought, Praesepe has acquired sites / groups of sites on EBITDA multiples up to 7x, with the average around 5.2x. Nick Harding is President of BACTA (the AGC trade body) and is well thought of in the industry across Europe – this makes doing deals that bit easier. On acquisition, sites are usually rebranded (Cashino), refitted with new machines on a revenue share model with leading manufacturers (uniquely for the industry – lower capex requirements / no ‘failed’ machines) and the operations are sharpened across the board. Based on The Crystal Room (so far the flagship Praesepe site in Leicester Square, London), such actions have a dramatic impact on revenue and earnings: The Crystal Room weekly revenue is +60% versus the weeks before the acquisition was completed. Acquisitions will be funded by a mix of new equity and debt. Currently there are 220m shares in issue, with 400m authorised. Have in mind that there is the potential for dilution unless further investments are made as new shares are issued. If the business sells for £800m with 400m shares issued, that is £2 a share. Compare that to the 8.5p market price today and, if you believe that the AGC market will follow the rule of consolidation and that Nick Harding can repeat and build on his previous success at Talarius, then it is worth a look. moreResolved Question: Would you mind reading something REALLY long and boring and giving me your thoughts?
I am hoping that you will not need background information in order to fully understand the content of the letter. Dear XXX I write with reference, at your request, of our conversation on January 4th 2010 regarding Sarah Williams and the allegations she has made towards your practice. I have your promise that this letter is purely for you and your peace of mind, and not to be used in any other purpose or situation. I have worked with Sarah for 2 years and got to know her well as a person during that time. We were very good friends. Some time ago, she began expressing distrust toward yourself and how you carried out your business. I advised her that I did not want to be a part of this and she, several times, reassured me that I would not be involved. Some conversations between her and me took place which she later used as “evidence” of your ‘wrong-doings.’ I feel it is unfair to both you and me, and a manipulation of trust, because I am not trained in dentistry and therefore I do not have a professional opinion of your conduct. I also had Sarah’s reassurance that I would not be involved. Sarah approached me to ask if she could name me as a witness in her report, and I refused. My thoughts on the entire situation have been discussed with my parents, both of whom cannot understand why Sarah did not approach you first if she had a problem. I agree. I am not going to give a full account of Sarah’s character because it would feel wrong and it would be unhelpful to a sensitive situation, but in my opinion her actions are largely governed by her moods which can be erratic. You asked why I did not speak to you about this prior to Sarah making her report, and I can only apologise and say that I do not deal with confrontation very well and I felt – and still feel – that me coming to you would be ‘involving’ myself in something that I do not understand, and was Sarah’s issue. I was also hoping that this would be one of those things that would blow over; I did not really believe she would go through with it, especially while she was still employed by you! I can appreciate however that had I come to you and advised you of her plans it could perhaps have saved a great deal of stress for everyone. In hindsight, it is easy to see that things could have been done differently and I will regard this as a learning curve. I enjoy my job very much and would like to work in a positive environment where we can have a good professional relationship – I too do not want there to be a bad atmosphere in the surgery! Trust is a very important factor in the workplace and so I hope that by speaking with you and by writing this letter you can appreciate the complexity of my situation also, and I hope that a positive equilibrium can be restored in due course. He tells me there is nothing between them, the trip is entirely innocent, and that him and I are still together. Given the fact that they both had to fly out of their respective countries to meet up in Thailand just to "vacation" together raised a red flag for me. So I told him I don't believe him and now he is accusing me of not trusting him and is threatening to break up with me. But Is this even a matter of trust? Even if I trusted him I still think he disrespected me by going on the trip with who is basically his "ex" (he never got her to sleep with him in college, but he did try). I can tell he is trying to send me on a guilt trip for questioning his motives, but I can't help but feel foolish for trusting him (I trusted him enough to let him go on but after some more thinking, what he is doing just doesn't feel right). He emailed me for the first time today (he's been gone for four days now) and still uses the "love" word at the end of his email, but despite his reassuring words, how come his actions seem so selfish? IS this a trust issue? Should I be doubting him? I no longer know what to believe, my guts, or him. Please help.Married people, please offer me your advice. Should I continue to trust him? He acts hurt that I don't trust him, accuses me of being jealous and criticizes me for not giving him the freedom he deserves, but how come the whole thing just feels wrong to me?? moreResolved Question: (updated): Do you think I am gay.............?

My girlfriend is a hardcore people pleaser and she cant seem to make a decision if it does not please all of the people. She also worries so much about what people will think of her. I keep telling her that she cant please all of the people all of the time. She voluntarily works at her parents business and if i asks her if she wants to hang out she says no she cant say no to her parents because she thinks it would hurt them, even though she her parent never asked her to work. There have been 3 occasions where she made me cancel plans with with my friends/family so i spend time with her, only for her to make plans with her friends. And then she wont cancel plans with her friends because, once again she thinks it will offend them and they might think she is spending too much time with me. She refuses to have sex with me, but not because she is not ready or wants to wait till after marriage (these are completely logical and fair reasons), she refuses, because she does not want to seem like a slut. Despite, i know how she feels about me, she texts me a million times a day to say that she misses me and calls me a million more times just to talk. She has also told one of my friends that she is madly in love with me, that she cant stop thinking about me and that i might be th "one". But her actions seem to disagree. I told her not to worry what others think and do what she wants so many times but she will not listen. What shall i do?ps we have been going out for 6 weeks if that helps moreResolved Question: Which College? Which Path should I take?
My real aspiration is to be an actress. I am a dedicated, hard-working young woman. I get excellent grades and I am in the Top 5 in my high school. I have a good singing voice (I've gotten far better than what I used to be, and I'm sure I'll be better before I graduate) and I am a very good actress. I don't have as much experience in dance as I'd like to, but I don't have two left feet. I am pretty and slender, and I am represented by a local agency (mind you, I don't live anywhere near L.A. and New York is a fair ways away). I wanted to state this before you make the assumption that I'm like every other young girl who wants to pick up and go to Hollywood to become famous. Now my issue. I'll be going to college soon and I have to decide what I am going to do. Option 1: Go to a decent college in California, not too far from L.A. and major in chemical engineering, biology, or business. While I'm in college, I go to auditions and casting calls in L.A. While I'm there I would be continuing vocal classes and taking dance-- if my schedule can fit it. My college preferences at the moment are Chapman University and Stanford University. Option 2: Go to college closer to the East Coast (my preferences are Yale and NYU) and double major in Acting (or musical theatre, I haven't decided) and the one of the majors I stated before. I wouldn't be auditioning for anything except for maybe my school's productions. If I did this, I would take two years off to pursue acting in L.A. or New York before either going to graduate school or getting a job, in addition to spending summers in one of those 2 locations. I need help deciding which action plan is better for pursuing my acting career, since that is what I really want to do. I just don't want to get stuck being the waitress that couldn't in L.A. Option 1 gives me more time but less education. Option 2 gives me more education but less time. Which should I follow? Does the education matter in the film world? Does it make an impact in the theatre world? moreResolved Question: Am I gay.............?

A friend of mine was ecstatic a few weeks ago when she finally found the "perfect" apartment for rent in her price range. It's a beautiful 3br for $800/month in an area where a 1br usually goes for $950+ (yes, this should have been a red flag to begin with, but you always want to believe it's not too good to be true). She and her roommate went and saw the place with the landlord, signed a rental agreement, and paid a $400 damage deposit. A couple weeks later she was talking to a mutual friend of ours who is about to get married and had just found a place for her and her hubby-to-be. In comparing stories they realized they were describing remarkably similar apartments - turns out, yes, it's the same place. They called the future landlord who wasn't immediately available at the number she'd given them, but did call them back, explaining that there had been a death in the family and the apartment was no longer going to be available as she needed to accommodate other family members. The landlord also explained that she thought our other friends had canceled on her and that was why she had offered to rent it to my friend. They were obviously suspicious at this point, but felt secure having signed lease agreements and receipts, and having been assured she would give them their money back. This all took place on the 21st. Further, apparently our other friends *did* get the money they'd put down back a few days later. Tonight (the 29th) I was going to drop off some boxes for a classmate who is also moving apartments at the end of this month. My friend came with me for the drive since we were together catching up after the holidays. The classmate told me over facebook that she was upset about something, but would rather talk about it in person. When we got there, she told me that she was upset because she just found out by email *tonight* that the previous tenant at the apartment she was going to rent had committed suicide (same thing my friend's landlord said happened with her family member) and the place was no longer available; she now has to find a new place within 2 days and doesn't even have her $400 deposit back yet. Since this rang some bells I had to ask - turns out, yep, same address, same apartment, and same name of the landlord. I've spent most of the rest of tonight trying to convince them that they need to go to the police and report this. They think that they still need to give her the benefit of the doubt, and plan to call the landlord tomorrow (though they do at least agree that it seems like they've been scammed). I'm all for being compassionate and understanding, but this is a bit much to believe. What's the right course of action to take at this point? This are now 3 people that I know of in my small circle of friends who have been rented the same place - there must be more in the city (I live in Victoria, BC, not a small town by any means) but is there any way to find out? Can they legitimately go to the police with this? I do realize I'm trying to butt into something that's really not my business, but all my friends are students and I really don't want to see them screwed out of money they don't have to spare. Any advice? moreResolved Question: What do you think about the crime rate in South Korea?
From koreantimes Police Should Go All-Out for Prevention and Crackdown People are increasingly afraid of crime, especially that targeting children and women. Parents fear the possible kidnapping of their children. Last week, a specter of cruel crimes was seen in the nation. A former pro-baseball star committed suicide by throwing himself into the Han River March 10 after killing his 45-year-old lover and her three daughters in mid-February. Just hours after the suicide, police found the bodies of the murder victims in a graveyard in Hwasun, South Jeolla Province. According to police investigations, debt drove the suspect, identified as Lee Ho-seong, to kill his mistress. Lee was heavily indebted to her due to a business failure. He borrowed 170 million won from his lover, identified as Kim, who had repeatedly called for repayment. Scheming a perfect crime, Lee, 41, apparently murdered not only Kim but also her three daughters, aged 13, 19 and 20. He buried the bodies in the graveyard in a carefully planned manner. People were shocked by the motive of the homicides, as well as his premeditated scheme. They were surprised to know that the culprit was a star batter with the Haitai Tigers, who had won the Korean Series with his help several times in the 1990s. Another shocking event was the discovery of the dismembered body of an 11-year-old primary school girl on a mountain in Suwon, south of Seoul, Thursday, 79 days after she went missing. The victim, identified as Lee Hye-jin, was last seen around 5 p.m. last Christmas Day near her house in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province. She was reported missing along with Woo Yae-seul, 8. Police have yet to find the whereabouts of Woo. It is tragic that Lee fell victim to a kidnap-murder. It is also disturbing to imagine that Woo may well have met a similar fate. Criminal experts cautiously said there is little possibility of Woo being alive. Words cannot express how terrible a tragedy it was for the innocent young girls. The latest cases show how vulnerable children and women are to brutal and heinous crimes. Police are facing criticism for failing to take quick action to investigate the cases. In short, they cannot avoid blame for negligence and incompetence. They also appear to lack willingness to crack down on crime. Police and other law enforcement agencies are required to ensure public security so that the county can be a safe place to live. They have often declared war on crime. But whenever grave crimes occurred, the authorities only proved that they have shouted empty slogans. They should keep in mind that the rule of law is under threat. Anger Grows Over Light Punishment on Heinous Crime Crime prevention is much better than cracking down after incidents have occurred. But this is easier said than done. Therefore, getting tougher with those who commit grave crimes such as homicide, kidnapping and sexual violence is inevitable to avoid recurrence of violations. Now, people ask a question: What would happen if law enforcement authorities are poor at taking preventive measures, while judges are too lenient with brutal criminals? The answer is simple: Any nation that can't firmly establish the rule of law, which is the basis of democracy, will become a jungle. No one except murderers, gangsters, drug and human traffickers, and other criminals wants to see the law of the jungle prevail in society. That's why many countries around the world are waging a war on crimes to maintain law and order to prevent innocent citizens from falling victim to lawbreakers. The South Korean government is also stepping up its campaign against violence, rape, abduction and homicide. But the recent case of rape on an eight-year-old girl by a habitual sex offender proves that the nation's efforts against crime are futile. The entire nation was shocked by belated news about the horrifying sexual assault on the innocent first grader who sustained serious injuries from the violent act in Ansan, south of Seoul, last December. It is hard to measure the pain and trauma of the child victim and her parents. The girl, known as Na-young, is still in the intensive care unit of a local hospital. Aside from the brutal nature of the crime, it is all the more regrettable to realize that the 57-year-old brazen-faced criminal, identified as Cho, has received only a 12-year prison term. How could the court become so lenient with a perpetrator who has repeatedly denied his criminal act despite strong evidence presented against him by investigators? The prosecution demanded life imprisonment for him at the trial. But judges handed down a lighter sentence, taking into account the fact that he committed the crime under the influence of alcohol. Public anger is exploding over the softer-than-expected punishment. More than 400,000 Internet users have signed a petition through the online portal site Daum, calling for a retrial, the imposition of capital punishment against Cho, and moreResolved Question: Is it right to overthrow (or help overthrow) "Democratically Elected" Leaders?
If you think it is O.K. to overthrow or help (finance) the overthrow of DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED Leaders then please explain the Justification for such actions. Planning and waging Wars is what the "bad guys" are supposed to do and we "the good guys" historically (see WW1 and WW2 for details) step up and "defend" democracy and freedom from such tyrants. If a foreign government attempted to isolate the U.S. or the U.K. economically, cut off our supply of gasoline, or starve us to death, would it cause Americans to admire that foreign entity? Or would we instead unite under the flag for the survival of our country? Last week the House overwhelmingly approved a measure to put a new round of sanctions on Iran. If this measure passes the Senate, the United States could no longer do business with anyone who sold refined petroleum products to Iran or helped them develop their ability to refine their own petroleum. Do you agree with such a policy? I would then like put this question to you,... "How would Congress, or the U.K. Parliament react,.. if another government threatened our critical trading partners in this way? Would we not view it as asking for war? Are YOU ready for another WAR,...are you ready to send your Children / Brothers / Sisters off to die once more for what?.... And before any of you start with the usual "Iran are coming to kill us all, or Iran is planning to attack Israel with nuclear bombs",...show me the evidence which can not be refuted. I really need some help picking the right college major for me; whenever I ask our college counselors, they seem to direct you to what’s going to make you the most money- regardless if you are interested or not. I know I’m throwing myself to the bowels of the internet, but here it goes: I’m not sure what exactly I wish to do. All I’ve known is that I wish to be an entrepreneur of sorts- however, college isn’t necessary for that, so I didn’t want to choose the generic Business major (no offense to those who did). I excelled in high school whenever I tried (or whenever I wasn’t lazy), particularly in English and History. I’m interested in Computers and Technology, but I’m shying away from some of the math/science-heavy degree plans. It’s not that I’m bad at math; whenever I actually did my homework or studied, I made As and Bs, and whenever I fucked around I got C+ or Fs (or Ds depending on where you live). It’s that I don’t find math “fun” or “interesting”, like I see so many others do. While I can tolerate mathematics and sciences, I question whether or not I will enjoy a career in this field. Not only that, but when it comes to programming one doesn’t need to go to school to learn that craft- there’s a dozens of books in which you can teach yourself at your own pace. Most job openings even say “Bachelor in Computer Science or related knowledge.” I’ve been tooling around with programs like Photoshop and Paint.net for years, with designs and image altering for various people. I also used to make little “Sprites” and games using the “RPG Maker” engine when I was 10. I’m not a pro at it, but its something that I enjoyed doing whenever I had the vision. The downside is that my “skill” is purely digital, and that I suck ass at drawing (that can be changed with practice, though,so that's not an argument). I do enjoy playing video games, and I have for years; however, the same issues I have with this major is the same as I do with the previous major. I love music. Plain and simple. I wish to take music theory classes and learn how to play the piano and the guitar to better my skills. I have aural abilities and I can sing. Whenever the motivation, I like to write. I’ve been free writing since I was a kid, and I have mounds of fiction short stories to various amounts of poems. I developed the interest of film and screenwriting when I was a kid, so I’ve always had an interest in the arts and in entertainment since a kid. Of course, the downside to that is the lack of careers choices that come with Music majors and English majors. I have no desire to teach whatsoever, and I have no long history of playing any instrument- so anything musical would be for my own benefit. I’d hate to go major in English then say 5 years later “I can’t find a good job in this field.” And with film comes the dozens of people who pursue their dreams and come back with absolutely nothing. I don’t care about “fame”, but I’d rather not be assed out, you know? As you can see, I have a multitude of ideas with little to no idea how to put these plans in action. Ultimately, I want to go to school to learn something I normally couldn’t on my own that would give me an edge, but I don’t want to major in something that’ll be a complete waste of time, nor just do something for the money. I mean, if I get the money, that’s all great too… Anyway, I know I’m throwing myself to the sharks here, but: What do you think I should major in? Inb4 any memes. Also, don’t give me that “do what you love to do” crap. I’m not asking you this question for a generic answer that I can get from the nearest homeless man. And if there is a way to somehow combine all of these, let me know! moreResolved Question: Is it legal to fire someone for not going to a company christman party?
The owner for the company I work for is having a christmas party on a Saturday after business hours. This is the second attempt at having one since we were only given two days notice the first time, so no one was able to go. Because of that he has made the party mandatory for all employees to attend. I have other plans with family that evening and cannot go. I want to know if there is any legal action I can take if I am fired for not attending a party that he can't make mandatory anyway.I think I need to add a little info about my boss. He is the type of person where if he says jump he wants you to say how high. If he tells you to lick him shoes, he wants you to get on your knees and lick his shoes. He doesn't care about anyone but himself. He wants everyone to do what he wants when he wants without question. Need Serious Advice, moreVoting Question: What sort of career path would suit my interests well?
I'm a writer. Of course, many jobs require at least decent writing. I figured that being a journalist would be a nice choice for me, until this year that is, which I realized that academic writing is just not my thing. Sure, I'm good at it & it's simple, but it's really not something I enjoy. I'm more of one to write with either great detail & vivid description, or immense amounts of conversational, opinionated voice. Therefore, journalism just would not work out for me. Now, I know that it's not ideal in this day & age, but I really would like to enjoy the career which I choose to pursue. I don't want to do something for the rest of my life which I'm just, admittedly, not enjoying at all. I'd prefer to at least like such some bit, you know what I mean? I plan on going off for publication of some works of my own in the future, though I'm not assuming this to be a simple task. (However, how can such be difficult when total rubbish like Twilight is published & made immensely possible for who knows what God awful reason?) I accept to that; I understand that. But, I couldn't make a living off of simply being an author .. assuming that publication actually worked out for me. I'd like a steady job with definite income, publication of my own work would just be a side thing. Then I thought "Well, I could work for a publishing company - be close to the action." This thought, however, was followed up by "what in the world would I be doing there?" I'm only a Sophomore in high school, but college time will be here a lot sooner than it appears to be rushing towards me. So, I'd at least like to know what I'm going to go to college for. My questions for you today are: 1. What sort of occupation do you believe would suit me well based on this? 2. Let's say I go with this working for a publishing company idea. What exactly could I do there? What sort of positions/jobs are offered? Are they simply rubbish-like office jobs, or are there positions I could set myself up for which actually pertain to the business? Thank you. :)Oh dear, so many typos - I'm sorry! D: For words which do not seem to fit, just assume the word which would regularly fit the context. Sorry, I typed it out too quickly apparently, haha. :) moreResolved Question: Can Bi Polar Disorder (specifically manic depression and mania) come out of nowhere in a person?
My friend has suddenly seemed to exhibit many of the characteristics of bi polar disorder specifically mania in regards to his speech and actions. He is sleeping less, says he is in love with a different girl every other day, is making plans to build a giant business empire, creating charts of what he wants to give everyone after he makes money, talking about having the power of influencing people based on body language, and is becoming paranoid about money and other things. This behavior seemed to come out of nowhere within the past 2 weeks. His family and I have both asked him about drugs and he has said he had not taken any. I've known him for a very long time and he has always been very honest with me about anything (he had been a fairly regular smoker or marijuana but has quit for around 4 weeks now). I honestly don't believe its drug related and that if it were I would know. moreTop Business Action Plans Links
