Dear All, I have just recently joined a company as a sales person. Before this job I used to work for a bank for last 5 years in a back office function, which is totally different from a sales job. I have started making field calls.Initailly I am doing the cold calling on propective clients.Our product is basically for corporate purpose.So I have to knock on lots of office doors. Problem is that the receptionist or a clerk often doesn't allow me to meet the decision maker who makes the purchasing decision.They say that the person is busy, out of town, that they already have a supplier for this product, we hardly use this product, etc etc.I ask for business card mentioning the name & number of the person, so I can call them for appointment.Mostly I do get the business cards, but again the same receptionist/clerk picks up the phone & say the same thing that the person is unavailable, not interested, etc etc. Please all guys tell me how do I get past the gatekeeper, meet the main decision maker & close a sales.If I don't achieve my sales target, then I have to start searching for a job !!! I was in relationship for 7 years (I never lived with him.) Beginning it was pretty good. He loved me, respected me, cared of me and my family. We started our relationship on serious note. It was him – who brought up the topic of marriage and engagement too soon. But after few years later dating him every time I tried to talk to him about the marriage he would not response well. I didn’t mind it because I was in school and working on getting my degree while he was managing his new business. 6 months ago, I asked him for his plans about marriage and he became very arrogant and aggressive and the relationship turned into flame and we broke up. He became really abusive verbally and started calling me names. I spent several weeks crying and waiting for his phone call and he never called. I tried to get in touch with him. Initially he responded well but never apologized for his behaviour and after few days later when I called him again; he ignored my calls and never bothered calling me back. I thought maybe he needed some more time alone etc. So I thought of giving him more time. I waited for his call for another 2 weeks and then I was so sick and tired of continuously looking / checking my phone that I decided to change my number. Now, it’s been more than 6 months- we broke up and I haven’t called him but I can’t seem to get him out of my mind. I have tried to get involved in various different activities, meeting new people, engaging myself in new course, volunteer work and watching movies etc. But nothing is helping. I am a writer in the making, but I always find it hardest to write an introduction. I know it needs to be catchy and interesting, and I am always getting bored by writing the beginning and describing everything, because I always want to just get right into the story. The story I am currently working on is this (Summary): Adriana had always lived in her small town, Silverdale. With a low population, everyone knew everyones business, but she didn't mind. It was home, and they were family. Raised by her wise Nena, it was always her who guided her to the right side of a decision. But when she wakes up one day and sees a new, crescent shaped scar in her palm that was not there before, her whole town is suddenly afraid of her, and even her beloved Nena is choosing to stay away. Lost and afraid, she gets comfort from a new mysterious boy Ryder who will only show himself at night, but is he all what he seems? And more importantly, who is Adriana Ghale? And here is my failed, short introducted paragraph (I'm going to make it much, much longer if I stick to it though): Along the bottom coast of the state California resides a small beach town by the name of Silverdale. With a population of exactly nine hundred and thirty three people, it was no surprise that it hadn’t even made the map of California. It’s only true trademark was Sky Reef, and even then no one chose to visit the small town. Tsunami’s and tidal waves were common, at least one small one happened every year. The strongest tsunami that had ever hit had been in 1999, and that had only destroyed one home. It was a peaceful little town with sunny skies, with no clouds every around to downcast someone. Also, does anyone have any idea what I should call it? I was thinking just 'Silverdale' because the beach town is a huge part of the story. Help! more

If we think about it, currently we live in a world of great advancement of science and technology. We have the technology to travel to outer space not to mention observe great parameter of universe. Also, the day to application of technology in travel, transportation and other day to day life has improved significantly also. The health technology is at a level, where painful surgery and method of treatment is being replaced by better ones.... At the same time, we see countries and fraction of groups are at war against each other in the name of religion, or other "label" they like to give themselves. We see great amount of death and destruction is caused by people. We see years of buildings and development being brought down to dust, just because of some political interest. My question isn't there a PEACE FULL way to resolve our conflicts? I know some people have the "dog" like mentality to think it's impossible to coexist with others, and destruction is the ultimate way!!!! I personally think it's just our inferiority of mentality. If we can work on making ourselves better, psychologically, a lot of our problems will go away. We are human for god sakes! We have the quality to judge in constructive way and improving each one of us personally thus making the world better in return... If you think about it, all the greatest invention of the world(electricity, plain, ship or others) are actually contributions of some great few minds. Of course their ideas were commercialized and mass produced to make it work. But my point is if only a handful of people have the compatibility to make the world a better place, why can't we as a group or nation learn to be more tolerant and progressive? Instead of being scared of others? Am I being too general? Lets just consider world history: (a) World War II - Nazi Germany goes against Jews, and the whole world gets into a destructive mode! (b) Now in Middle east, there are still war going on (c) USA now is always on alert with war against "terrorism" or sometimes against the muslim. And this is not really something new. USA was an arch enemy of Soviet russia before. As a matter of fact, the power of talibans or afgan fractions was a result of US policy (d) The asians region also has conflict. Hindus against muslims and so on. (e) A major part of the world now has nuclear power, just as a result of previous animosity. And it's a very risky business. It doesn't take much nuclear weapons to destruct the whole world!! Ok, so that's definitely a scary picture. So my question is, why can't we raise our children or make it mandatory in schools and college, to make ourselves better personally? Through the power of meditation, psycho analysis and so on, we can definitely change ourselves positively and turn the world into a better place in return.... Definitely, the technology is way past in race in front of us...And we human are still with the back dated mentality that war is the ultimate way....Lets catch up with the blessing of modern technology and make ourselves better. Japan for example, can be an example of being peaceful and advanced country(of course Japan had a violent past also). The school I work for (we'll call it "CPT"--which is CLOSE to the real name which has three letters that all rhyme with "CPT") is looking for a new slogan to be used in advertisements. Resolved Question: Politics: Fired Rehired 2 wks later - My Boss is arguing my employment contract stock options, Your thoughts?

I need an outside opinion on an employee contract with stock options. I was hired in February of 2009. I have been working with this start-up company for nearly a year now. In October, i was "laid off" due to "budget cuts" (they were in the middle of expanding operations). In reality, i was fired because of office politics - I found out later that was the case because someone says i did something that i didn't which was not revealed as it wasn't discussed during my "exit interview" where they claimed they just couldn't afford to keep me on and intended to rehire me when the product was ready for sale. The product goes on sale in two months - i've been back without a contract since october of 09. After talking with the CEO, he felt it wasn't right that i was let go and still had value in the company and brought me back to the company work directly for him two weeks later. My title changed from marketing director to business developer, and my new responsibility was to raise money. While being employed there, the share price was already raised to .75 cents - i was still vesting under my original contract at .50 cents. However, i was still being asked to do some work i was previously responsible for and even today i am still involved in aspects of marketing, research and development. They still come to me with questions as i've been there longer than any of my coworkers in the marketing department, including the new VP of marketing - so i was the go to guy for answers for months after. My original employment agreement was that i was going to receive 250k options vesting over 3 years at .50 cents. They think that my new employment contract should be 250k options at .75 cents over 3 years. I personally feel that my stock options should not change from .50 cents to .75 cents whatsoever as i still fulfill some of the duties that i was previously responsible, and the work i did in that capacity will still benefit the company forever - this means marketing ideas, slogans, branding, product names, product development, features, benefits, contacts, partnerships - you name it, i had my hands in it - and they still benefit from it all today. The CEO feels that he cannot give me my new contract at .50 cents, but feels it should be at .75 cents because the share price was already raised when i was re-hired two weeks later. He touts that the other executives (who have been there for approx 5-6 months now) have shares vesting over a longer period of time. Logically, i've been there double the time they have. Do you think that because i was a victim of office politics, my efforts should be belittled and my stock options reduced in value as a result of someone having an issue with me that was never discussed even though i still contribute to that same position's responsibilities today? Or does the CEO have a point that he cant reduce the price because the share price was already raised before i was fired? That i should be thankful that i have stock options because the executives with more experience than i do weren't getting what i was? Please keep in mind that if the stock price goes to $20.00 per share, at 50 cents thats 5million dollars. At 75 cents, thats 3.333mil. A difference of nearly 1.7m. Do i deserve to lose 1.7m because someone didnt like me then, even though everything is fine today? Does this mean that i deserve to lose that because my title changed? Does this also mean that when its time to sell the product and my title changes again im going to lose my contract again? more

I work at a local restuarant in my city, and we recently opened up a new store in one of our malls here. We've been there for a little over two months now, and I've gotten to know most of the staff in the building. Well, except for one person... There's a security guard that I see almost every day that I work. The first month I didn't pay much attention to him, but over the past few weeks I've been increasingly attracted to him. Mind you, I've hardly spoken a word to him. Last week he was walking by doing his rounds and I decided to give him a cute and subtle smile. He smiled back and kept walking. A few minutes later he walked into the store and ordered some food. Just so we're clear, during the day we've got about five people working in different areas- one person making noodles, one person doing fryers, one doing till, one handing out orders, and one person making pitas/salads (me). Well, the security guard just so happened to order a pita. I instantly got nervous because of course I have to ask him what all he wants in his pita. He was super friendly, and I made sure to bat my eyelashes at him. ;) As I handed him his food I gave him a smile, and returned to my business. That was the first and only time I have spoken to him. Ever since, he is constantly walking by and smiling/making eye contact. I'm not saying these are hints that he may like me, but I'm saying they aren't either. Also: my boss found out I have an eye for this guy and told his friend, Steve, who is also a security guard there. Steve approached my yesterday and said, "If you want to talk to Jared, you're going to have to do it yourself because he's very shy." For the life of me, I cannot say hello to him. Well, I can, but my nervousness is so overwhelming. But I have decided that, upon your advice, I will approach him tomorrow and FINALLY introduce myself. I think it will go fairly good, despite any nervous feelings I WILL have. Here's my question: would it be too soon to ask him if he'd like to go out for a drink sometime? My idea was just to say, "Hey, I see you all the time, and I still haven't introduced myself- my name is Jen." I'll wait for his introduction, and maybe, JUST maybe invite him out for a drink? Please tell me if this is too soon! I am just a forward person like that! (And by the way, in the two months we have been open, I have seen this security guard in our store TWICE ordering food. Once two weeks ago, and again last week after I gave him a noticeable smile.) more
