Plexus 3Q profits up 12 percent The Business Journal of Milwaukee

Plexus Corp. reported a 12 percent increase in fiscal third-quarter net income on a surge in revenue growth led by the firm's wireline/networking and medical sector customers.

Net income for the three months ended June 28 increased to $17.4 million, or 41 cents per share, compared with $15.5 million, or 33 cents per share, for the same period a year ago. Earnings per share benefited from completion of a $200 million share repurchase plan.

Net sales for the Neenah-based contract manufacturer of electronics jumped 20 percent to $456.4 million from $379.6 million last year, when reduced demand hurt numerous sectors.

For the fiscal year to date, net income for Plexus (NASDAQ: PLXS) rose to $66.8 million, or $1.48 per share, compared with $40.8 million, or 87 cents per share, the year before. more

Perot Systems Reports Second Quarter 2008 Financial Results

"On a foundation of strong client relationships, solutions that address market needs, and a sound operating model, our business continues to prosper," said Peter Altabef, president and CEO of Perot Systems. "Revenue, earnings, profit margins, and cash flow increased during the quarter as we continue to win new business and expand existing relationships. Overall, it was a productive quarter where we continued to advance our business."

Trend Information and Business Outlook

For the third quarter of 2008, Perot Systems expects revenue to range from $700 million to $715 million. Perot Systems expects to realize a revenue contribution between the second quarter and third quarter from new sales and recent acquisitions, partially offset by slightly higher pass-through revenue in the second quarter of 2008. more

Airlines cut flights, change course of business

NEW DELHI/MUMBAI: There is more bad news from the aviation industry. Hit by high fuel prices, major airlines have reduced flights on the domestic circuit as demand is ebbing and flights are going half empty.

It is learnt that state-owned carrier Air India has cancelled around 30 flights whereas Jet Airways grounded more than 20 flights due to poor bookings. Delhi-based budget carrier SpiceJet has cancelled around 10 flights and Simplify Deccan has done away with 50 flights.

Jet Airways has combined some flights, due to poor loads, on routes like Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Kolkata. Simplify Deccan is said to have carried out a similar exercise on short haul routes. When contacted, a Jet spokesperson said that few flights have grounded but this was a temporary measure. more

200 CEOs set for business summit

Kampala will be host to more than 200 highly placed business executives for a three-day East African Business Summit scheduled to start on 17th this month.

Held annually, the summit brings together CEOs and economic policy officials from the region to meet and brainstorm on topical issues: how to achieve business efficiency, expansion, brand building, corporate management and suchlike.

This year, the Summit will be help at the Kampala Serena Hotel and the discussions will focus on how to enhance East Africa's competitiveness in the global market.

“There are new challenges in today's business environment like the emergence of new markets like India and China and several others that business leaders will debate and share ideas about," said Mr Tom Mshindi who represented Nation Media Group, one of the convenors of the conference. more

Charlotte home prices dip slightly in May The Business Journal of

The value of single-family homes in Charlotte dipped 0.2 percent for the year ending in May, according to the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index. It is the second consecutive month the Queen City has seen a drop in the sales price of existing homes. In April, prices fell 0.1 percent.

Since January, Charlotte had been the only city to see monthly gains from a year earlier in the 20 metropolitan markets the index tracks.

Despite the drop in May, Charlotte's home market remained the strongest in the index. The next smallest price decline was in Dallas, which posted a 3.1 percent drop.

Nationally, home prices declined 15.8 percent for the year ending in May. Las Vegas and Miami were the weakest markets in the index. Las Vegas saw a 28.4 percent drop, and Miami fell 28.3 percent. more
