UGI Reports Improved Third Quarter Results, Reiterates 2008 Guidance

Growth in the cylinder exchange and strategic accounts businesses this quarter and improved unit margins, combined with sales volumes from acquisitions in 2007, could not overcome price-induced residential customer conservation and the impact of a sluggish economy on commercial volume. Average wholesale propane costs for the quarter at Mt. Belvieu, Texas increased over 50% from the prior year quarter.

For the three months ended June 30, 2008, AmeriGas retail volumes sold decreased slightly to 180.7 million gallons from 182.1 million gallons sold in the prior-year period. Weather nationally was 1.8% colder than normal and 7.0% colder than the prior-year period, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Operating income decreased $2.5 million from the prior year period as increases in total margin related to higher average unit margins and increased fee income were more than offset by higher operating expenses and increased depreciation and amortization related to growth investments. more

Big business takes the wheel in race against road toll

The leading cause of death among Queenslanders aged 16 to 25 is road crashes, while 14 per cent of young drivers crash within their first year.

These sorts of startling statistics have prompted one Australian company to offer free driving lessons to 500 Queensland students to help lower the road toll.

Education Minister Rod Welford was today scheduled to launch the Leighton Contractors Youth Drive Safe Initiative at Ferny Grove State High School.

The initiative will provide five hours of free driving lessons to senior students at 10 South-East Queensland high schools over the next six months.

At the launch, Mr Welford hailed the program as an ideal way for an Australian company to "give back to the community".

"Anything we can do to better educate and inform our young road users is a step in the right direction and I call on other companies to follow Leighton Contractors' lead and think about how they can give back to their communities," Mr Welford said. more

Most chemist laboratories in need of major repairs, says government

The director of Finance and Planning in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Marketing, Januarus Mrema, told journalists in Mwanza last week that two of the up to standard labs are owned by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS).

Mrema said the government, in collaboration with the Danish International Aid Agency (DANIDA), is working out strategies to carry out major repairs to 18 labs so that they attain the required standards.

``The certificate of approval is not issued unless the labs are equipped with all necessary facilities and professionals to carry out standard services,`` Mrema explained.

He said the aim is to have labs capable of certifying the standard of products to meet international requirements and help increase the values of the same. more

Open Question: Help Starting a new business.?

i am looking to start a new business from my home. i wanted to use legal zoom to complete my tax information and my llc paperwork. once that is complete, i have a list of supplies i need to purchase to make sure i have what i need in my home office to begin. once i get my llc from legal zoom, can i then obtain credit in the companies name that doesn't effect my personal credit and purchase the aforementioned supplies ( computer, business cards, website built, misc office stuff, catalogs, stickers for catalogs, envelopes, fax machine, phone, ect)? Also I am currently on UE from being laid off, can i stay on UE and start my business? since i will not be turning a profit for a little while, and i will not be paying myself, is it legal to collect UE at the same time as i get my business built. if i missed anything can someone please fill me in as to what i would need to do. and maybe who i can speak with in regards to doing such a thing. more

My parents don’t trust my boyfriend because he’s 7 whole effing years older than me. Big whoop. They can really talk since they’re many years apart (I’m not even going to say, but if you guess it I'll give you mad props *hint*-it’s higher than 10 and less than 30). Ever since I’ve started dating him there’s been nothing but drama, drama, drama coming from my parents. They’ve found every excuse in the book to talk negative about him (to me) whenever he’s not there. They find things wrong with him that aren’t even there. They make assumptions about him and then blame me for them not knowing anything about him whenever I try to argue against whatever they say, saying that I never talk to them about him. But why in the hell would I ever want to sit down and talk to them about him when all they’re going to do is criticize everything I say. I can’t tell them all the things I like about him because then they’d tell me “You’re becoming too serious about him and you’re going to get hurt.” I can’t tell them all the things I don’t like about him (which for now the list is very short) because then they’d tell me “He’s no good for you. You can do better.” Can’t win. [They] won’t change. They put on their masks in front of him whenever he’s around, pretending that they like him, when in reality my mom doesn’t like him because he’s not black and my dad…just doesn’t like him period. I never dated in high school because 1. all the boys I ever liked hurt me in some way, shape or form, and 2. I’ve always been mature for my age and never met anyone close to my age who would accept me this way until now. As stupid and cheesy as this sounds, I can tell he actually does care about me. Long story short, he wants to take me to San Diego for the day just to hang out, go shopping, be together etc. It’s about a 2 hour drive from where I live. Even though I technically didn’t even have to because I’m an “adult” now, I still sat both my parents down and talked to them about wanting to go on this trip with him like it’s the biggest deal in the whole wide world because that’s exactly how they looked at it. My mom starts off by saying it’s “too far” like we’re planning on going out of state or something, and then my dad started getting all huffy, and made a comment on interracial dating and how people in the “real world” perceive us, and then told me “not to get offended or take this the wrong way”, but that maybe I should do a background check on him. As in: search his name in the computer and see if my boyfriend, who has a full time job, who’s getting a business degree and is still going to school, who pays for all his own crap, and the list of how responsible he is could go on—has any sort of criminal records or something. I don’t even want to touch that with a ten foot pole. My parents are so paranoid and ridiculous that it’s almost laughable. more

Open Question: My dad is psychotic, help?

hi guys, my name is anthony and i'm 16 years old. i have 2 brothers (one 19 who's a marine and one who's 10 in 4th grade) and a sister who is 22 and lives on her own with a daughter and a boyfriend. since my brother left for the marines, my dad's drinking and physcotic-ness has gotten' worse. and i mean it's really bad; everyday he's picking fights with me, my brother, and my mom saying how worthless we are, how much he hates us, and how much he hates living with us. the thing is, we don't do anything wrong... i always help my mom clean, i bring in firewood, and i do whatever i'm told. i feel especially bad for my mom who's had major back surgeries; she's unable to work, she can't stay on her feet for too long, she has to go to the doctor's and she takes a lot of pills (all for her pain)... but my dad refers to them as drugs and to her as a drug-addict, when she's not... and he's always telling her how she doesn't do sh**... my mom is a good mother, she takes care of her family and house very well. she's always saying how much she cannot take living in the same house as him anymore. he to me, provides good for our family but too me, caring is what counts the most... not what you buy or how good you make it for us; i would rather live in a nice apartment and be happy with my life and family. i know it sounds unappreciative but at this point, he deserves nobody's appreciation, he told me he was going to put me in between the door and smash my head with it in front of my brother's girlfriend and her friend... i ran off crying because i was so embarrassed . and that's not the only threat he's made; he's told our family he was going to slit our throats, he always yells at the dogs and other animals we have saying he's going to tie them to the back of the truck and drag them until there's only bones left, and all this other mortifying stuff... too this point, i just don't know who to turn to anymore... yeah, i can talk to my friends about it but none of them really understand what it's like, which is why i feel like opening to the world wide web and see if there's anybody else out there who knows the pain i have to deal with everyday... and also, he owns his own business and i think he expects me or my brother's to take it over and i told him that i wanted to do culinary and how i wanted a normal teenage job for now so i can save up money and stuff he flipped out and now i'm pretty much on his shi** list. please, every thing counts; i just need to know what to do :/ more

Open Question: Since When Protest Is Illegal?

Challenging Israel’s war on protest Pip Hinman 13 March 2010 Bridget Chappell, an Australian solidarity worker in the Palestinian territory of the West Bank, was arrested by occupying Israeli forces on February 7 and threatened with deportation for simply engaging in peaceful protests alongside Palestinians. Solidarity activists have asked Australia’s foreign affairs department to intervene in support of Chappell to allow her to continue her work in the West Bank. Chappell was arrested in a pre-dawn raid for alleged “visa irregularities” — even though she had a valid bridging visa. At the time, Chappell’s arrest featured prominently in the Australian media. But since the Israeli Supreme Court declared her arrest illegal and released them on bail on February 9 the case has faded from view. Chappell is fighting to be able to continue her work in the West Bank with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) — a Palestinian-led movement committed to resisting the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land using non-violent direct action. She is also fighting attempts by the Israeli government to have her deported — the fate of other ISM volunteers. Israel’s “war on protest” — as Israeli daily Haaretz put it — is intended to undermine a joint non-violent campaign by international activists and Palestinian villagers challenging a land grab by Israel as it builds the separation wall on farmland in the West Bank. The arrests are in response to those organising protests against the wall. The last major confrontation between Israel and the ISM resulted in deaths and injuries of international activists at the hands of the Israeli army. The horrendous case of US ISM volunteer Rachel Corrie, who was run down and killed by an army bulldozer in 2003 as she attempted to stop a home demolition in Gaza, is the most well known. On March 10, the Haifa District Court began hearing eyewitness testimonies in a civil lawsuit filed by Corrie’s family against the state of Israel for her unlawful killing. Chappell told Green Left Weekly that she is very worried about being able stay. She said Israel does not want people, like herself, bearing witness to Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine, and its continued settlement building. She is concerned that Australia’s consular assistance has been minimal. Given the Australian government’s close relationship with Israel, a number of people have signed a letter, drafted by the Sydney Stop the War Coalition, urging the foreign affairs department to assist Chappell. The letter states that Chappell was not participating in “illegal riots”, as claimed by the arresting officials, and that she “was certainly not involved in the dirty business of scamming passports to assassinate political leaders – as agents of the Israeli state have allegedly been recently caught out doing”. The statement concluded: “We would like to know what Australian consular officials are doing to assist Ms Chappell. Hi, so my name is Sarah and I'm French. I met my wonderful boyfriend on a plane last summer while I was going on vacation in the States and he was going back home on leave. He's an American, currently stationed in Europe. Anyway, we've been together since the life-changing plane ride and it's been the most fantastic time of my life. He always hints at the fact that he wants to get down on his knee and propose to me! Luckily, I'm a good student and I got scolarship to finish my Bachelors degree in the States. I'm moving there in the fall. My boyfriend just re-took the ASVAP and is now waiting for the new list of jobs to come in his base so he can crosstrain. I'm nervous that he won't be stationed in the same state as me. But anyway, love's stronger! However, I was wondering what it was like to be engaged/married to an Air Force man? If I'm on a student visa in the States, can we still get married whenever we want or it'd be considered fraud visa? Also, I want a career as a profesor or in international business but I'm slowly realizing this will be hard to balance since we'll be fully depending on his job. That's a bummer. :-( Have any of you ladies been able to have both the successful career and the marriage?! What are the pros and cons of being married to your Air Force Man?! Open Question: help on iphone itunes and contact?

1) i am intending to get a new lappy from the IT fair later on to replace my 'failing' desktop. thing is, right now my itunes are in old desktop there and i am clueless on how to sync with my new lappy to get everything there. 2) i have just started to use google contact to store my personal contacts there. but since in google contact i can create groups to differentiate several list, i wanted to create 1 for work business(contact, email, co. name etc.) and sync together with iphone, will iphone contact list reflect it as a business group list or it will just show like normal contact list in alphabetical order(personal and business all under 1)? how do i setup google contact on my iphone so as and when on the go i can always update the list as backup? my login to google contact is using my hotmail address, so do not think i have a google account in this sense. more

Yes, Germany and the Scandinavian nations have very high taxes, but not every single country in Europe, and Australia's taxation is similar to ours). 6. They convince the people of the dangers of having govt. make healthcare decisions, but never realize that it's worse with health insurance executives making those decisions, because you are a potential profit of loss to them. I would rather have a nameless bureaucrat who doesn't care if I live or die than an insurance executive who prefers that I die should I become unprofitable. 7. They conveniently gloss over how the current system stifles small business growth or freelance work and leads to "job lock," thus limiting opportunities for Americans who want to work independently. 8. Resolved Question: Home on MLS (AZ) - Anyone heard of "Live Free Investment Group" in Arizona?

I have been speaking with Alan Campos who is the President and CEO of "Fairway to Heaven Investments, LLC" and he has a partner named Brian North of Live Free Investment Group, they handle the short sale division of his company. Alan himself is not a realtor so legally he can talk to me as a home owner with a house currently listed on the AZ MLS through a Realtor. We are trying to do a short sale on our home in Arizona and we have had no traffic looking at the house in the last 2 months. This company will make us an offer today and we will go through the Short Sale process with the bank to see if they will approve or not. Alan contacted our realtor (that we have a listing contract with) to discuss handling the process from here including all the paperwork, negotiating with the bank and the offer will be made today. Of course my realtor will not get the 3% sellers listing commission (which is only $3,000 or less since the house is on the market for $100K), but instead this company is offering him a referral bonus of 25% at the closing of everything. My realtor told them no and that we will find a buyer and that we are not interested in going this route without speaking with us first. We have not spoke to our realtor yet, but Alan did call me back yesterday to say that our Realtor is not looking out for our best interest right now by not considering this deal. We have no offers let alone people looking at the house so going this route only makes sense. Before we approach our realtor with our thought on wanting to go this route, I would like to see if anyone has heard of this company or done business with them. Is this a good decision to make. Also Alan has explained to me that we would be putting our home in a trust, which would allow them to market our home to their investment buyers while we are waiting for the banks decision. This way when we close in a few months they have a buyer lined up that will buy it from them after our closing date is complete. Alan said we still own the home and we are not signing it away to them or anything like that. Has anyone ever heard of this also? For the past couple of years I keep receiving emails that really meant for another. In the beginning, I used to assume that this someone accidentally gave out the wrong email address. However, over time, more emails continued to come to my email address for this individual. Some have been from friends of his, others have come from companies he has appeared to do business with. Several have included identifiable information about this individual (address & phone number). Searching on his name returns someone with the same name, at the same address, in the same city as this individual. However, there is no phone number listed in the search I conducted. Hi, I just turned 20 and am a sophomore in college. I was unable to find a job this semester, but this odd guy who just graduated from my college and is soon moving for grad. school told me about a paid internship. He helps out, but will be leaving shortly. There is one other intern who is around 50 yrs old and worked in broadcasting, but wants to get into Business. This sounds nice, right? BUT the internship and the lady looking for interns is what concerns me. She hardly looked at my resume and "hired" me on the spot. She is starting an online website where she sells articles to CEO's and whatnot. The thing is, training was yesterday...and it left a funny taste. Here is what concerns me: 1. The lady's idea seems like a waste because the information in the articles *me and the interns* are writing for her aren't worth paying for. 2. We get paid by each article that we write which gets sold *$25 per purchase* 3. For my training, the lady sent me an email telling me to meet her at 1:00 in which she also told me that SHE would let me know where to meet her. I had to leave class early to meet her and at 1:00 I called to ask where to meet her, since she never called. She did not pick up, so I left a message. At 1:45 I went and checked my email and found out she sent a recent message to me and the other interns *those two guys* stating we should meet at 2:00. I waited, and when she arrived I tried jokingly telling her, "You told me to meet you at 1:00." She was using her phone *obv. she got my message/call, but obv. never responded* and she just laughed and said, "Oh yea. I told you 1:00, didn't I?" 4. During the training, she unintentionally demonstrated her lack of computer knowledge by continually closing out windows, then spending 5 minutes pecking out a URL...finding she misspelled something, and trying again. 5. She emailed me and the rest of the group that night stating: _____owes us the notes she took. OWES? -_- She also said, "Let's meet Wed. (tomorrow) at ____(she misspelled this random bar) at 6:00." First off, she misspelled the place so I had to search online trying to figure out what she was talking about. Secondly, I responded with the notes attached, but also told her that I was unfamiliar with the place, but I just turned 20, so I am not sure if I can go to this place. She sent 3 email responses to my 1 email -- none which addressed the bar place and the meeting is tomorrow. Also, she never even asked us if we were free -- she just assumed. 6. I always considered an internship to be working for an already established COMPANY...not just some random lady making a website. 7. The lady is confusing: She is very disorganized, sets no deadlines, sends out emails asking us to do stuff, but none are clear -- very illogical and scattered. 8. This is a pyramid scheme 9. One thing that sticks out is that the lady hired me on the spot -- she hardly even looked at my resume. I did not say much, and was rather out-of-it, but the lady kept asking me, "How are you so smart? Is it genetics?" after the "interview." Alright, so I'm thirteen and I'm trying to write a novel. I've already written one novel and that was over the summer. I love writing, and I always have! See, nobody knew me as ‘The Stuck Up Bitch’, and nobody knew me as “The-Girl-That-Gets-Around”. People only knew me as ‘Genni’, and I liked it that way. I used to be a confident girl, which made me pretty. I didn’t walk around the school like I was ‘the shit’, I just walked around being me – and confident about it. Resolved Question: Is this a fake landlord? Am I being scammed?

Okay, so I saw a craigslist ad for a townhome for rent. I told my hubby about it and it was all good. Then we visited and still thought nothing of it. Then we noticed how much he expressed that he needed to do a credit check but needed US to get the credit report for him because according to him, they made a privacy act where he wouldn't be able to view it. Strange... because in our previous apartments, we didn't have to get anything. We found that quite strange. Then we looked at the application he gave us and it asked for not only our bank account number, but our CREDIT CARD NUMBER and the expiration date! What in the world is going on here? I don't feel comfortable anymore. He did show us the interior and exterior of the place so I don't know how in the world he got the keys. Also, at first, he had a local number, but the second time he called, he called me from a different area code and I looked up the area code and it was from CANADA. :O My gosh, I mean, maybe he's just helping someone out. Maybe he just doesn't now what he's doing. Maybe he's being extra careful but there is no way in the world I'm giving that man my credit card # and the expiration date. He also cannot be found anywhere online when I googled both his phone numbers and his name. On the application it doesn't list a company, it merely lists his name and a fax number on the application. He didn't even seem to have a business card and didn't even express what he did for a living, or if he's rented out before, etc. There was a brochure in the townhome he let us have that had a real estate lady's name and number on it. (I saw another townhome in the same area but that one was better. The man actually had a business card, the company name was on the application, he knew real estate agents in the area, it was more of a better feeling for myself.) This guy is from Canada apparently, I do not feel comfortable with him at all. So I would probably be setting myself up for a scam if i pursue, correct? "Duh"s are welcome lol. I do plan on renting a townhome, but I'm not about to risk getting scammed. All I can do now is just keep trying to contact a real estate agent and see if this guy is legit. Even if she says he is, I don't think it's worth dealing with him anymore. Especially since I or my spouse, don't feel comfortable. I did contact the real estate lady and she said that he was the owner of the home and said I was smart to call her. She also said to check tax records if I want to verify and said that people have called her before and asked her if it was a scam. But it was strange that I called her more than once and she only returned my call when I left a message, claiming she just got out of church even though its like 9:20am and a lot of churches around here don't even start till around this time even 10 or 11 am. I just don't feel comfortble anymore. If he is legit, then why does he need my credit card number? Why isn't his phone number on the application? and why can't he access my credit records on his own? Resolved Question: Craig's List Housing fraud?

I am looking to rent a house in St.louis, MO. I found a couple good prospects, one problem..... The first house I found I got an e-mail back from a lady who currently lives in Nigeria(red flag eh?)She is renting it out and attached an "application" to the e-mail. Name, age,address, maritial status, religion, income level etc. I feel this is inappropriate to begin with since you can't refuse housing based on some of these factors(religion, marital status). My guess is she is gonna want me to send the deposit $300 to her once she approves me. The other house I found is still a little fishy...It is located in a nice area 3br/3ba and is renting out for $750 a month.This guy lives currently in the UK. He says he is there on business. He wants me to send the deposit $900 to him and he will in return send the keys ASAP and if I don't like the inside of the house he will refund my deposit asap(or so he says) Both of these make me a little uneasy...is it just because there are so many scammers here on Craig's List? Maybe one of these are legit, but you'd never know through all the other's scammer bullcrap going on. Could one of these be legit? I tend to trust the second guy a little more since he told me to check county records on the house.I did and his name comes back.What do you guys think? more

Voting Question: How can I locate accounts that have been opened in my name fraudulently?

My ex-wife has been using my name and social security number to open utility accounts in another state. I found out because after she moved the electric company ran my credit to find my address and sent me the final bill. I checked my credit reports and found another account she opened without my consent. On a hunch a started calling all the utility companies in her city and found two more accounts that were opened in my name. I have filed a police report. I have put security freezes on my account with the credit reporting agencies and I have filed a complaint with the FTC. Here is my issue - 3 of the 4 accounts I found were not listed on my credit report. I found out about them either because I received mail or happened to call and see if there was an account under my social security number. How do I find out if there are other accounts that have been opened in my name? I don't have time to call every business in the city where she lives. more

I know that I asked this question yesterday, but it didn't get too many answers, so here goes: I'm writing a story and having trouble deciding on the name of my characters. Help! Character 1: She's tall and extremely beautiful, with long blonde hair and green eyes. Her great grandfather had founded Simmons Hotels so she grew up very privileged, but she hates that she had been spoiled all her life. Voting Question: Is this an Ebay scammer? What are the steps I should take?

I put up a set of $200+ headphones in a Buy It Now listing on Ebay. I'm an independent seller and only had two items listed, so I'm not a business owner or anything like that. The second buyer waited two days after buying their pair, to send me this message: "hi im sooo sorry but is it possible to cancel the order for the earphone?? because my roommate used my account since he doesnt have an ebay id and so he chose the earphone but than now he is saying that he does not want it anymore...... im very sorry about it..." They sent me two identical "questions" like that on the exact same day, at the exact same time...so I'm thinking they just clicked the button twice. My listing specifically says no returns are accepted, but now they've ended my listing and basically are saying their "roommate" doesn't want to buy it after all. Of course, I've been charged listing and final value fees. I don't have a clue why anyone's roommate would be using their Ebay "since they don't have one" when it's free to sign up for one. They have a new litttle "new ID" icon next to their username, and have 0 feedback, which is also typical of scammers. I've emailed Ebay with all of the stuff I've mentioned here, but I'm awaiting their response. What should I do about this? Either way, if I remember correctly, it's a violation of Ebay's rules to share a username with another person. Another odd thing is their city is listed as PA, United States. But their email address ends with "hotmail.co.jp" indicating they're a member of email in another language/country. Resolved Question: My computer has been hacked by a TC in Y!A Shopping What can I do?

This is the second time this has happened from this person. How do I know who it is? This morning I turned on my computer and checked my local "Yahoo Weather" and to my surprise she as hacked into my computer and added Her Local Mexico Weather along with her "MX" initials she always uses at the end of answering a question. She also added Minalillan CL next to her MX initials. I also have 23,793 emails that are pouring into my outlook express in box. My computer is a total mess along with viruses. She either has multiple accounts or has her fans voting against me even when her answer is wrong and mine and others are correct. This morning not knowing what to do I put a star at each of her answers to keep track of her so I can report her for breaking the Y!A guidelines. I do realize you are to give someone a star for a great question but I am disparate. I'm disabled so my computer keeps me in contact with the outside world.
