Now, the Barnstaple & District Chamber of Commerce is leading a campaign to improve service and delivery times that it says are "severely handicapping" small businesses.Chamber president Rob Ford said that local businesses had already begun adding their names to a new petition posted on the Chamber website last week."The service we currently receive from Royal Mail is unsatisfactory, in terms of both cost and service," Mr Ford told the Gazette."The changes in delivery times have had an immediate impact on local businesses. At Roundswell, we used to receive our post between 9am and 9.30am, but since the later starting times, it's usually around 10.30-11.30 and sometimes as late as 2.30pm."It's completely unacceptable. The postal service is an essential business tool for many small companies and late delivery has a knock-on effect that disrupts the flow of working day."We are under no illusions about changing things overnight," he added. more

This is a good example of an engineer writing a marketing brochure. Instead of addressing the key points that matter to the customer (the fact that the competition has better hardware support), he instead dwells on the technical details of a driver model implementation and why this makes troubleshooting a failed device easier. Look, the user doesn't care if the driver model in Linux makes it easier to troubleshoot stuff that doesn't work. The user cares about if it works, and if it does, how well does it work. Sound points are made in the article - that is not the issue. However, the article does not present a valid rationale as to why there is a "limited outlook" to using Windows because it supports more hardware. Instead, it kind of cedes the argument in its opening statement, takes a deflective turn and then argues about something totally unrelated to the original point. more

Embraer brands new business jets

Embraer has branded its new midlight and midsize business jets the "Legacy 450" and "Legacy 500" respectively.

The Brazilian aircraft manufacturer's new executive jets will be direct competitors with Bombardier's Learjet family.

Embraer said Tuesday it would begin taking orders for the new aircraft this week at the European Business Aircraft Conference and Exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland, after receiving more than 100 offers of intent from potential customers.

“The Legacy 450 and the Legacy 500 will be revolutionary best-in-class jets, building on the Legacy brand, delivering premium comfort, outstanding performance, and low operating costs," said Luis Carlos Affonso, Embraer vice president of executive jets, announcing the new names.

The Legacy 500 is expected to enter service in the latter half of 2012, followed by the 450 in the second half of 2013. The list price of the planes are $18.4-million and $15.25-million respectively. more
