Some risk taking 'good for young'
A leading entrepreneur has warned a 'cotton wool culture' is discouraging children from being innovative and taking measured risks.
Simon Woodroffe, founder of the YO! sushi chain and a star of the Dragons' Den BBC TV show, said youngsters needed to be instilled with a 'go for it' attitude and the desire to push boundaries. OVER sh80m is to be given out to the best entrepreneur who borrows or saves money with micro-finance institutions (MFI), the micro-finance state minister has disclosed.
Caleb Akandwanaho (Salim Saleh) said over 300 MFI beneficiaries would participate in the third Citi Micro Entrepreneurship Awards competition.
He said the winners would be rewarded at the Kampala Serena Hotel in November.
The awards are aimed at recognising extraordinary contributions individual micro-entrepreneurs have made to the economic stability of their families and their communities.
Any client of an MFI, micro deposit-taking institution and savings and credit cooperative is eligible to compete.
The financial institution should identify a maximum of two candidates to compete for the prizes. more
Chennai to host exhibition on hospital needs
Addressing the media here Wednesday, Dr. Manivannan, CEO, Medicall said: "Around 200 manufacturers of medical equipment are expected to display their products. More than 5,000 hospital owners are expected to visit the exhibition."
The ensuing event will be Medicall's third edition and this time a seminar on hospital infrastructure will also be organised where leading architects are expected to participate.
According to Dr.Manivannan, more than Rs.50 million worth of business was transacted in the past two editions of the conference.
He said the healthcare industry is likely to grow from the present Rs.760 billion to Rs.1780 billion by 2012.
The medical equipment industry at Rs.96 billion in 2006 is growing at 15 per cent per year and is estimated to touch Rs.216 billion by 2012. more
