Encorium Group, Inc., a full-service multinational contract research organization (CRO) that provides design, development, and management capabilities for clinical trials and patient registries to many of the world's leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, recently announced it has been awarded new business contracts with multiple European and U.S. biopharmaceutical companies that have an aggregate value of approximately $2.5M.

Dear Mike: Though there are business owners who are beating the slump (see our package on Defying the Downturn), "the situation is pretty universal," says Bill Zimmerman, a consultant at The Hartford Financial Services Group.

But don't despair yet. Zimmerman believes that small business owners can increase business if they become more aggressive about staying ahead of the competition.

"Consider these three points: value, cost and volume," he says. more

Many businesses use low-flow faucets

An overwhelming majority of randomly selected businesses and apartment complexes have installed low-flow water devices, according to a news release from the city.In a report to the City Council on Tuesday, City Manager J. Russell Allen said voluntary inspections of offices, hotels, fitness centers and apartment complexes, as well as a smaller number of similar water users in the six towns that have merged their water and sewer systems with Raleigh's, showed a high level of compliance with the conservation request.Some businesses that did not have low-flow faucets had purchased them and were in the process of installing them, according to Allen's report.

Open Question: I need help... I don't know if this makes sense or not..?

Okay so I'm writing a book and its based on the future and I'm writing about how money works in the future. I have a small idea but I'm pretty sure there's a lot that needs to be corrected so it can make sense. I am new to all this and plus I'm very young so don't think I'm some ignorant woman that knows nothing about how money works in the U.S. And I hope you understand what I am trying to do in my story. If its too complicated and the idea is stupid, please help me find another idea that is sure to be a great success. So here's what I'm thinking: Nobody uses money anymore just cards.It looks like a credit card. You use this card to purchase whatever things you are able to buy from your account. All you do is swipe the card on a machine from where ever store or place you are getting something from, type in the code, a password, and your personal question and answer you have created yourself that only you know. The code and password are given by the machine. The machines are connected to the banks. The banks are computer generated and is regulated by the government. There are no such things as taxes anymore. You get money put on a card by these machines (these machines are like ATMs only they are found everywhere!). If you were getting paid from your job, family members or friends, the person would type in your name on the machine, and how much money your giving them to put it on your card. You also need to put in your code, password and your personal question and answer. The same thing applies if you lose your card. If someone steals your card, they can't use it because they need your code, password, and your personal question and answer in order to get the money out of your account. By the end of the day, you put your card back in a machine so it can recycle it because your card will no longer work by the end of the day. You will have to go to the machine the next morning so you can get a new one made with a new code and password to use for that day. Your personal question and answer won't ever be changed unless you decide to change it yourself. If you need a new card you just use your question and answer to get a new one made for you and your code. The code and password is injected in your mind by the machine and then later erased when you go to the machine to get a new card. So when you get a new card, you don’t have to worry about memorizing the codes and passwords every time. The banks change passwords and codes randomly so that no one will be able to steal peoples accounts same goes for the government. The banks control on how businesses get their money. The successful the business the more money it gets. The better the wages for the employees as well. It’s like a popularity thing to. The more people the business attracts the more money your business has. The banks have unlimited money. Homeless people would mean that they are unemployed or don't have very successful jobs to receive money. You needed a successful, or mediocre business, or good job to get money in your account and on a card. If you have no card, you cannot buy anything. more

Open Question: Can someone help me come up with a good plot for this story?

I'm writing a book in a sort of spy genre and I have a few good characters but no solid plot to put them in. Here are some details that I know will be in the story. Alexander Glenn is a 26 year old agent for a secret government organization in the year 2050. This organization is in charge of keeping an eye on the increasing amount of businesses that are growing larger and larger by slowly monopolizing their trade. One particular Business stands above the rest however, SolenCO (name in progress). SolenCo is a large corporation in charge of almost all the energy supply in the country. By using large fields of solar panels, they gather and store enormous amounts of energy. However they have grown so big so fast that the U.S. Government sees them as a threat and sends Alex Glenn and his team in to investigate. Alex, however is having his own issues. Since he was hired into the organization at age 18, he was often known as one of the best operatives that the organization had seen. However, now he is given an apprentice, Sean Grant, who is only 16 years old. Sean is very skilled in the trade and actually surpasses the skill level of Alex at times. Alex resents him for that reason. The two must learn to cope with one another in order to succeed in the biggest mission the organization has ever seen. Those are the basics to my story, however I am in need of a in-depth, logical plot. If someone could help me come up with some ideas that would be great. Please just follow a few guidelines: 1.) I would appreciate it if I didn't need to change the ideas I have so far too much. Try to work off of what I already have. 2.) Give any Ideas you can think of even if their a little far-fetched. Open Question: Does this girl like me? If so, what should I do?

So, there's a girl at my college that I met in Physics in September, at the beginning of the school year. I really (and I mean really) like her, but I'm getting one of the worst cases of mixed messages in history. When we first met, we exchanged numbers within a few days, and ended up texting one another nearly all day, every day for quite a while. We ended up going for walks in a park nearby the college, and seemed to get on quite well. After a couple of weeks, I asked her (in a really obvious, revealing way) if she was seeing anyone. She seemed a little flustered by that, and answered no, but she seemed almost surprised that I'd asked her that. She then said something "So, you like me then?", and -- all embarrassed -- I answered "No, I was just curious." We'd arrived back at college by then, and we both went to our separate lessons. I later text her apologizing for poking my nose into her business or something. After a few more weeks, we stopped going for walks in the park, though we still talked in lesson. Towards Christmas, she started going out with someone, which upset me quite a bit but I didn't talk to her about it, and she never mentioned him. They split up quite quickly (after 2 weeks or something). On Valentine's day, I actually coughed up the guts to call her and ask her out to the cinema at some point, and she said yes. When we went to see the film, I paid her in and she bought the popcorn. As it turned out, I was far too gutless to actually 'make a move', and nothing really happened. The next day I asked her if she'd like to meet up again sometime, and she said she'd like to. However, we never actually went out anywhere again between then and the end of the year. I took this as quite a bad sign, and had pretty much concluded she didn't like me at that point, and figured she only went to the cinema with me to not embarrass me on Valentine's Day or something. Despite this, we were goofing around in lesson one day, and ended up drawing on each other's folders; to my surprise, she had written "[her name] likes Callum" on my folder, quite plainly. I was incredibly confused at this point, so didn't say anything about it (I still haven't), because I'm terrified she meant something else by it. Anyway, things died down again and nothing really happened between then and just recently. Towards the very end of the year, she asked me out to see a film, which surprised the hell out of me. At her suggestion, we shared the same drink (two straws and one cup), which I also took to be a good sign. That was just over a week from now. She's just had her birthday a couple of days ago, and I sent her flowers and chocolates (possibly a terrible idea but she seemed to like them and text me saying "Thank you they're beautiful etc." I was talking to her on facebook whilst she was at home on her birthday, and she seemed very not-herself -- I'm not even sure it was her to be fair, since her cousins were over or something. I tried to get a conversation going and it just didn't happen. I'm now at a loss for what to do, and I feel like I'm the single most confused person in the entire world! Thanks for reading. i'm going to be a senior next year and i really need to find a good school! obviously this entails some sort of liberal arts school, but I've visited 10 and none of them cater to someone like me, with a huuuge variety of interests- i want to be able to take classes of all kinds, not just basic liberal arts/sciences, but also in things like business, film, producing and communications to name a few. i want to be given a lot of freedom with choosing classes and building my own curriculum. the kind of school i want to be in is definitely in or very, very very near a city (mainly new york, boston, dc, chicago) to give you a general idea of what kind of student i am, i have a 2180 SAT; 680 reading, 700 math, 800 writing, and my GPA is 3.6/4. i have a job, i have plenty of extracurricular activities/volunteering with leadership positions, etc. i know it's all very specific but i'm really hoping i can find my dream school :/ more

One night Bob goes to a bar and sits down for a drink. He meets up with some old friends relaxes and reminisces. He heads on home after a long and fun night with the boys. That evening it starts, starts. The facial expressions on people in the street have all changed the bewildered looks just keep getting worse. Bob tries to sleep it off and imagines it will all just disappear in the morning. He wakes up the next morning and goes up to his office, it’s the same situation people hes known and worked with for for years look at him like he just fell from the sky. He decides that being a human he must be in world of alien creatures. What happened in that bar that night he wonders to himself. He realizes that he is an alien in his own land. Bob Starts realizing that all his old friends and girlfriends are really green colored people and as a human he is the proverbial alien invader now. The dreams start he now sees reality in his dreams the facial details of these beings the communication ways even the food the green people eat start appearing to him in his dreams. He realizes even family members are these green aliens. He eventually starts dreaming of the blue man group.. The truth is he realizes is that he is a human trapped in an alternate alien universe . In this universe everything is the same the names the same addresses and all the buildings remain. Bob now tries to escape from this alien universe hoping to get back to where he came from. His final resolution is to contact the US government which also appears to be controlled by aliens but realizes there must be a way transcend realms and contact the real human white house and get rescued and sent back into the realm he originally came from. He is finally saved by the real human president who personally transcends realms and helps gets him back to the real universe where the humans are in control of everything. He establishes himself in business and lives happily ever after. more

Open Question: Girls, would you ever date someone like this?

I'll be straight-forward. This all happened since 2008 up until 2 months ago About two & half years ago, I was in a long term relationship that ended abruptly. It was a major hit for me and I had bit of issues coping with it. On top of that, the relationship ended a week before college finals; fortunately, I studied and maintained as much focus as I can on studying the subjects for testing. However, I did not pass pre-requisite English so I was dismissed. Following that summer, I took a remediate class which I passed to substitute the pre-req English class. At the end of December, I was supposedly meeting up with another person and celebrate my 20th b-day. Unfortuantely, I was double crossed and got caught up with the law. I spent my 20th locked up. Gratefully, my parents helped get me out, hired two attorneys, and I appeared in court when told to. In the end, I took a plea of serving 362 days incarceration with five years probation (I served half of the time for good behavior and got out mid-June). I begin serving time mid-Dec. of 2009 and spent my 21st b-day behind bars. After serving six months inside, I feel like I shaped up and a different person today. During my time inside, I did some gang-related work and was given a gang-nick name, Currently, I work part-time for my dads' business and spend reading books on self-improvement as well as entrepreneur; I guess I read a little bit over 20 different books within a year and half. I also give feebacks to my sister since she is designing a website and I'm co-founder with some ideas. On the side, I am spending time writing out a book about improving your life. I am bit anxious that girls would be weirded out that: I have been sexually inactive close to three years and I probably won't be as good when physically intimate I'm a convict/felon during probation period anyone?I pled guilty to [assault with deadly weapon] which was a deal to drop other charges brought forth such as attempted kidnapping related. Turns out the person I was meeting up had a sibling who ran away and I get blamed for it. So much for justice. more

Sienna came to this decision after spending six months totally in love with her boyfriend Jay Everett, only to find out that he‘s been cheating on her with Ivy Pouch and Hazel Gray for all but the first week of their relationship. Hoping to get her mind off of the whole Jay situation and earn some extra cash, Sienna gets a job as a waitress at the Blue Horizon Diner. There she meets Maude Gallagher who owns the restaurant, Raquel Clarke, Hank Norman, Erin Watson, Alyssa Taylor, and the super hot hunk Jeremiah Lane, who makes Sienna's no-boy-summer quite the challenge. Bliss Bay is the town in which this story takes place. It is located on the shoreline and has many tourists during the summer. Businesses in Bliss Bay include the Blue Horizon Diner, a gas station called Gas ‘n Grub, Sunrise Plaza which has the beauty salon called Snip In A Snap Salon, the trendy boutique called Mystic’s, a furniture store called Fawn’s Furniture, and a dentist office called Bliss Bay Family Dentistry Neill Ingalls D.D.S. It also has a movie theater called Bliss Bay Cinema, a bowling alley called the Lucky Strike Bowling Alley, a hip club called Ecstatic!, a bar called Porky’s Pub, a hardware store called Handyman’s Hardware, a pizza place called Pirate Pete’s Pizzeria, and an ice cream shack called Dairy Barn. The high school is Bliss Bay High School and their mascot is the barracuda. Sienna Rosario (17)- Sienna is the new waitress at the Blue Horizon Diner. She has blonde curly hair and gray eyes. Ivy Pouch (16)- Ivy is one of the girls that Jay was seeing behind Sienna’s back. She has red hair and green eyes, and is very short, but still slender. Hazel Gray (15)- Hazel is one of the girls that Jay was seeing behind Sienna’s back. She has black hair and blue eyes. She is tall, with really long legs, and has an athletic body type. Maude Gallagher (50)- Maude owns and manages the Blue Horizon Diner. She fills in as a cook/waitress/bus“woman”/hostess as needed. She has short and curly red hair, green eyes, and is rather plump. She is quite eccentric and her whimsical actions and odd sayings keep the rest of the staff at Blue Horizon Diner on their toes. She loves to joke around and does her best to keep her employees happy and in a good mood. She was once married to a man she refers to as Huffy, but says that the Blue Horizon employees are the closest thing to a family she’s ever had, with the exception of her brother Roy and her niece Erin. Raquel Clarke (21)- Raquel is a waitress at the Blue Horizon Diner. She is very beautiful, but has a red scar just above her right eyebrow. Her hair is a honey blonde and her eyes are a dark blue. She is very tall and slender. She is usually nice and helps Sienna out a lot while she is learning the ropes. She also argues with Jeremiah like a brother and sister would. She moved to Bliss Bay with her boyfriend Ryan Lowe right after graduation and hopes to get married and raise a family here. She gets engaged during the story. Hank Norman (47)- Hank is the head chef at the Blue Horizon Diner. He is dark skinned, short, almost bald (though he‘s often wearing a hat), and overweight. He doesn’t speak great English. He is very protective over the diner and the Blue Horizon staff. He is divorced, and has two kids. A son named Nick and a daughter named Shelly, who is planning her wedding to a guy named Juan. He often laughs at his own jokes, which only he usually gets. Erin Watson (16)- Erin is the hostess at the Blue Horizon Diner and the niece of Maude. Erin is spending the summer with her Aunt Maude and got put to work at the diner. It is her first job and she is trying to do a good job. Erin has long brown hair and brown eyes. She is very petite and has freckles all over her face. She is really sweet, but quiet and shy. Alyssa Taylor (18)- Alyssa is a waitress at the Blue Horizon Diner. She is pretty and has bleached blonde hair and brown eyes. She is average height and curvy. She is very moody and doesn’t keep it a secret that she doesn’t like Sienna. However, she does keep it a secret why she dislikes Sienna. Until Sienna got there, Alyssa was the one Jeremiah always flirted with, and Alyssa is into Jeremiah. Now Jeremiah pays more attention to Sienna, and that is not okay with Alyssa. Alyssa tries to make Jeremiah jealous by flirting with the customers, especially the young and attractive ones.Jeremiah Lane (18)- Jeremiah is the assistant chef at the Blue Horizon Diner, but he fills in for Hank when needed. He has medium blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. His secret weapon is a half smile that he gives to girls to make their knees so weak. He argues with Raquel over stupid things and used to flirt pretty regularly with Alyssa, although he was never really into her. He is however, into Sienna, but he doesn’t know about her no-boy-summer. He does crazy things to try to get her attention and flirts nonstop with her. more

Open Question: How I do change my Facebook username?

I went from my FB business page to the FB username section to change the name of my business page. It accepted my business name...and promptly saved it to my personal profile NOT my business page. Annoyingly it then asked if I would like to create a username to my business page! Grrr. So I would like to take my business username off my personal profile page and put it on my business page where it belongs. As much as I have tried to figure this out on my own maybe someone out there might know the answer... It has taken me about 7 years to qualify in just my single degree. I have paid a lot of money and worked very hard to get it. The thing was that I had studied my 1st degree and only finished up to my final year before changing to a new degree. Reason was because in that semester I withdrew but reapplied and had to go back to almost 1st year again. There seems to be nothing I can do about this... So I studied for a new degree because I figured it would take me just as long to complete. It ended up taking another 4 and half years... Plus the 1st 2 and half years trying to get my 1st degree... I did a bachelor of computing (final year) finished a bachelor of business (management) Apart from getting funding, I managed to get a minor scholarship to tide me over in my studies. All I know is that I am here now and I am in some debt close to 20K... So now I am paying off the debts slowly for the 2nd one. Because I am an international it is even more difficult. I have to pay a larger amount than the locals. From which I can see, it might take me years. Whereas the locals can figure paying it much easier. Somehow, I am working 2 jobs everyday even on sundays. I have been doing this for years... almost 4 years now even whilst I was studying. This happened because he became a bankrupt (4 years ago) and now things are getting worse. It has been a year since I have graduated. I hope to migrate to Australia but I just don't have the points. And neither do I have the funds to continue another course. Is there any other way? Going back seems to make the situation even worse, my father passed away and now I am expected to finance all of these bills and I don't even know if I can finance my younger siblings to college... I am deeply concerned, because I am not sure what migration might say. As I have been told by the migration lawyer that I might lose my visa. And I would be forced to make the trip back home. And I was told that I could take this issue to the migration tribunal and from there make a claim on at least having the temporary residency to continue in the country but I do not have any idea as to what will happen if I leave. Going back seems to make the situation worse. Living in debt where the fees are so expensive, I can't reverse time and yet it all of this debt is under my name. Plus I can't even consider getting a lawyer to lodge an application to the tribunal. Very expensive about $7000 AUD altogther including the application fee of 1400 AUD. I am not being pessimistic by saying that my visa will absolutely be rejected, but the migration lawyer has told me it is highly likely. And even after speaking to a migration agent, I have been told a similar situation. All of this was based on a simple mistake of nominating a 'wrong occupation' - which by the way is not so simple anymore. Regardless, I am hoping someone out there might tell me otherwise. Furthermore, I am not applying for permanent residency. I am only applying for temporary residency so that I can pay of the debts. Please don't tell me that you have missed out on chances or opportunities before... I had not known it otherwise I would have applied earlier. I really am at a loss of what to do... I am currently going into year 10, and we have been asked to try and sort out our work experience places. I have been quite stuck, as most places will offer mosltly business oppurtunities. But my year at school didn't have enough people put their names down for Commerce as an elective, hence it was not available to do. So I was beginning to think that a business based Work Experience would not be so benificial to me. But I will be sure to do business studies in years 11 and 12, so I am still unsure on what I should do for work experience. I was thinking perhaps looking at Playstation Magazine (I enjoy video games, and I enjoy English as a subject). Or even any magazine really that would offer me a spot. I was also looking into marketing or jounalism at a sports club, (Stg Dragons, my uncle works for them so I may be able to go there). okay, so me and my boyfriend live at his father's house. He pays the bills, but we do the housework and buy groceries, and keep him company... My bf's Father has had past issues with being alone. So we all work together to keep the household. and we are Happy. ... the issue comes in with my bf's family... Specifically his half-sister. She comes over to mow the grass (before it even gets too long) and b*tches to us that we didn't do it... She also comes over and complains that I, me personally, don't do the dishes enough. or clean the bathroom. or shouldn't have painted the living room. (his father is a heavy smoker and the walls and ceiling were cover in tar) or clean the kitchen/bathroom enough. Now neither his father, my bf, or I are confrontational people. So it takes a lot to set me off. I've already told her once to back off, and so has his father (her dad). Some days I want to go over her house and see how it is... she has like 3 elementary aged kids, so i know it's not all sparkly sparkly.... I've identified as a libertarian for some time because the ideology tends to resonate with me quite a bit; the idea that you have total freedom as long as you do not impede that freedom for anyone else. I've always known that libertarianism also has an innate flaw; massive deregulation. I enjoy the idea of complete personal freedom, however I also enjoy the idea of having strictly, but judiciously, regulated businesses, banks, and economics (something that libertarianism doesn't quite permit by definition). I like the idea of corporations and banks being unable to write their own rules, and the government being unable to bail them out, Canada's economy thrives for this reason. I'm also torn on health care. On one hand, I do not agree with America's approach; buying your own health. But on the other hand, I don't necessarily agree with Canada's socialist health-care, because it seems like legislated theft, or legislated altruism; being forced to buy other people's health. I did think, though, that it would be a good idea to simply increase taxes for the products that we know are harmful; cars, fast food, firearms, cigarettes, alcohol, etc. I'm digressing. Hello, This past June I graduated High school. Because I do not know exactly what I want to do, I am attending community college for (hopefully) only a semester or a year. If anyone could help me out with a few job titles and how I could get started/ what kind of classes i should take, etc..i would be very grateful. - I am interested in Abnormal Psychology, and am thinking of possibly going into the medical field, but - I would like to travel to different countries (particularly Europe), and have always wanted to attend at University in another country and eventually find the place I love the most and live there. - I have been learning German in school since i was 11, but have always been exposed to it. I always want to learn many other languages (Polish, French, Finnish etc) - I would not mind business/ communications; however, I don't think i'm cut out for/ would be able to handle the business world. - Fine arts/ music has always been an interest of mine. Resolved Question: Outlining my story (again), just looking for a few ideas like names and towns, mind helping?

I'm not going to go into to detail about my story, but I'm going to say a few things, whilst be as vague as possible due to fright of copy-righters :3 So here's the general idea: There's a girl, her name's Ariel. She has really dark brown hair, that looks black unless your up close. And she has crystal blue eyes. Her family describes her to have "lost her funny bone a long time ago" because she used to be all happy and perky then she became depressed and started spending tons of time by herself. She has a big family, and feels like she doesn't get acknowledged like most of her other siblings and then later on her favorite brother committs suicide. And I'm really just going to plan the rest as I go on. But there's going to be a love interest, and I have vague details (if that makes any sense) in my head, they're just kind of unclear and I'm hoping they'll come to me later. Her dad died when she was about to turn two years old. She was the youngest of her mom and dad's family. Then when she was eight, her mom remarried to an orthodontist who already had one daughter from high school. A year after their marriage, Ariel's step-father and her mother had a baby girl. *This story takes place in 2009. What town should they live in? I'd prefer it made up, but you'll need to provide a state. I don't really like the real towns, because you can't really know the define details through Google. It's not like I would know what it's like to live there. *Mom needs a name. She's very girly. And the baby that she had with the orthodontist is very much like her. But her mom focuses more on her new life, with her new husband and children, but it's not that she doesn't care about the older ones, it's just that the one that's eldest to Ariel and Ariel are the only one's left in her home; and her brother only sleeps there. *They need last names! This brother is VERY close to Ariel, and they never fight at all. And they have a Saturday Movie Night, but then he stops coming when he gets this girlfriend.
