McCain to urge nations to cut funds to Iran

"As more people, businesses, pension funds and financial institutions across the world divest from companies doing business with Iran, the radical elite who run that country will become even more unpopular than they are already."

McCain also tweaked Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's suggestion of holding unconditional talks with Iran.

"Rather than sitting down unconditionally with the Iranian president or supreme leader, … we must create the real-world pressures that will peacefully but decisively change the path they are on," he says.

Telarus Offers SMB Wireless Solution

With a monthly fee of AUD$999, businesses in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and soon Perth, will receive a (1:1) 8Mb/s service that will support business applications such as VoIP, Video, Citrix and Terminal Services.

This will enable Telarus customers to effectively double their access speed, whilst paying less than they would for a 4Mb/s uncontended (1:1) SHDSL connection.

To maximise business uptime, customers can also sign up for the optional DSL service (ADSL2+MAX or ADSL MAX) for an additional AUD$99 per month. Leveraging Telarus' Cisco-based Next Generation Network (NGN) and through the use of a Cisco 1841 router at the client side, Telarus will configure the solution such that network traffic automatically fails over to the DSL service in an event of a disruption to the wireless service. more

Maine businesses face higher electric rates

AUGUSTA, Maine—Starting in September, some Maine businesses will be facing double-digit increases in their standard offer electric rates.

The Public Utilities Commission on Tuesday approved new energy prices, which apply to customers that have not made their own electricity supply arrangements.

Large business customers of Central Maine Power will see their standard offer prices rise 32 percent, while those for medium-size customers will go up 23 percent. For Bangor Hydro customers, the figures are just under 20 percent for large businesses and 21 percent for medium businesses.

PUC Chairman Sharon Reishus said the higher rates reflect increases in wholesale electricity costs, largely due to hikes in fuel costs for power plants fired by natural gas.

Selling area sizzle to race fans

He added the park should be seen as a platform that businesses continue to grow off of.

"We have something unique to the nation," Savaro said.

The group of about 60 people also learned kiosks were going to be installed at the motorsports park in order to get information about area businesses and services out to spectators.

Currently, the clubhouse's front table is filled with brochures from restaurants and businesses, something motorsports park officials said will continue for now.

Additionally, officials said a trolley could eventually take spectators from the motorsports park to area destinations, and it was suggested the Motorsports and Tourism Committee be expanded, and if there was cooperation amongst the businesses, have coupons or a map created and then pass it out. more

Small Business Loan Association Questions asked

Resolved Question: SBA is a ripoff. Why do we need the small business association?

I thought the SBA was supposed to support and help new and small businesses by filling the gap that regular commercial banks don't want to risk because they are backed by the government. Trying to start a business without perfect credit in the U.S is a joke. I won't get approved from the bank so I call the SBA and I'm told to go to my bank and ask them for a SBA guaranteed loan. Whuptie duh, my bank is going to look at my credit and because I don't have over a 700 and a large sum of money for down payment, I'm screwed. So what's all the bs about our president saying that they will be giving $30M to help support small businesses. more

Voting Question: The best Small Business Loan?

I'm looking to open a boutique type business very soon. I'm unsure where to look for a business loan however. I don't know who would be the best to go through since I've heard companies like the Small Business Association and Woman in Business have high interest rates. I also don't know if credit cards would be a good place to go- I've been scared of using credit cards in the past and don't have one to this day. I do have student loan debt but other than that I have perfect credit. Any ideas/ advice would be very helpful. more

I have been in association with another person the owner of a barbershop business (not the real estate property but the business). Now, my partner want to sell his part and of course I want to buy it. However, I don't have an idea on what type of loan I should get for that. I need 25000. Can you give me a suggestion? Resolved Question: Let me clarify my question about wanting to get a?

home equity loan. Your answers were fantastic. Thank you so much. But I didn't give all the details. I am 56 yrs. old and have some health issues going on. It's difficult for me to work. But, I am in the process of getting a foster child, which would provide a monthly compensation of $1,700.00, plus a small pension I get of approximately $850.00 per month. In case you didn't see my question earlier. I have bad credit, but am behind in taxes and home owners association dues, and I am petrified of getting a home equity loan, even though I have 100% equity in my home. The good thing is, I have a close friend who is in the business who may be able to pull some strings for me. Your answers and help were remarkable. Thank you so much. So, here's a little bit more info to help you out. I feel that if I get the foster child in, and have more income coming in (and by the way, that money is not taxable income- or even considered income), I will be able to pay the loan back.  more

Resolved Question: Why don't more people question Obama?

I started looking into Obama's life. Around 1979 Obama started college at Occidental in California. He is very open about his two years at Occidental; he tried all kinds of drugs and was wasting his time but, even though he had a brilliant mind, did not apply himself to his studies. 'Barry' (that was the name he used all his life) during this time had two roommates, Muhammad Hasan Chandoo and Wahid Hamid, both from Pakistan. During the summer of 1981, after his second year in college, he made a 'round the world' trip. Stopping to see his mother in Indonesia, next Hyderabad in India, three weeks in Karachi, Pakistan where he stayed with his roommate's family, then off to Africa to visit his father's family. My question - Where did he get the money for this trip? Nether I, nor any one of my children would have had money for a trip like this when they where in college. When he came back he started school at Columbia University in New York. It is at this time he wants everyone to call him Barack - not Barry. Do you know what the tuition is at Columbia? It's not cheap! to say the least. Where did he get money for tuition? Student Loans? Maybe. After Columbia, he went to Chicago to work as a Community Organizer for $12,000. a year. Why Chicago? Why not New York? He was already living in New York. By 'chance' he met Antoin 'Tony' Rezko, born in Aleppo Syria, and a real estate developer in Chicago. Rezko has been convicted of fraud and bribery this year. Rezko, was named 'Entrepreneur of the Decade' by the Arab-American Business and Professional Association'. About two years later, Obama entered Harvard Law School. Do you have any idea what tuition is for Harvard Law School? Where did he get the money for Law School? More student loans? After Law school, he went back to Chicago. Rezko offered him a job, which he turned down. But, he did take a job with Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland. Guess what? They represented 'Rezar' which is Rezko's firm. Rezko was one of Obama's first major financial contributors when he ran for office in Chicago. In 2003, Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama which Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendelland claims was instrumental in providing Obama with 'seed money' for his U.S. Senate race. In 2005, Obama purchased a new home in Kenwood District of Chicago for $1.65 million (less than asking price). With ALL those Student Loans - Where did he get the money for the property? On the same day Rezko's wife, Rita, purchased the adjoining empty lot for full price. The London Times reported that Nadhmi Auchi, an Iraqi-born Billionaire loaned Rezko $3.5 million three weeks before Obama's new home was purchased. Obama met Nadhmi Auchi many times with Rezko. Now, we have Obama running for President. Valerie Jarrett, was Michele Obama's boss. She is now Obama's chief advisor and he does not make any major decisions without talking to her first. Where was Jarrett born? Ready for this? Shiraz, Iran. Do we see a pattern here? Or, am I going crazy? On May 10, 2008 The Times reported, Robert Malley advisor to Obama was 'sacked' after the press found out he was having regular contacts with 'Hamas ', which controls Gaza and is connected with Iran. This past week, buried in the back part of the papers, Iraqi newspapers reported that during Obama's visit to Iraq, he asked their leaders to do nothing about the war until after he is elected, and he will 'Take care of things'. Oh, and by the way, remember the college roommates that where born in Pakistan? They are in charge of all those 'small' Internet campaign contributions for Obama. Where is that money coming from? The poor and middle class in this country? Or could it be from the Middle East? And the final bit of news. On September 7, 2008, The Washington Times posted a verbal slip that was made on 'This Week' with George Stephanapoulos. Obama on talking about his religion said, 'My Muslim faith'. When questioned, 'he made a mistake'. Some mistake! All of the above information I got on line. If you would like to check it - Wikipedia, encyclopedia, Barack Obama; Tony Rezko; Valerie Jarrett: Daily Times - Obama visited Pakistan in 1981; The Washington Times - September 7, 2008; The Times May 10, 2008. Now the BIG question - If I found out all this information on my own, why haven't all of our 'intelligent' members of the press been reporting this? A phrase that keeps ringing in my ear - 'Beware of the enemy from within.' more

Resolved Question: Such poor advice! Are McCain's own Campaign Advisors "soft" supporters of Obama?

Are you beginning to get the impression that McCain's Campaign Advisors are "subliminally soft peddling" Obama? It's just that McCain is not showing the backbone, drive, confidence that he historically has had. He is also not focusing on campaigning the right states at the right time. He's trying to be too "middle of the road" to pull in the Independent vote, rathar than strengthening his ties to the Republican voters. Why not bring out and directly question Obama's associations and character? And these same advisors continue to keep Sarah under tight wraps, don't protect her as they should. (Personal-level verbal slang, video's, bringing up false and/or weak allegations). By appearances, I am beginning to believe that these CA's of McCains believe - even subconsiously - that it is time for a candidate of Obama's racial background, that the fight has already been "lost", they fear being accused of being racist at the drop of a hat, and they are in denial that they truly have a liberal agenda themselves. Are you getting a similar impression? The facts about Obama's campaign are out there, yet McCain is side-stepping, ignoring, in denial, and outright clueless it seems to what Obama stands for and is truly representing. Business' right now are setting up downscaling their work force if Obama gets elected. Banks are not giving out loans to small business' because of the uncertainty of how Obama's administration would effect them, should Obama be elected. The facts are out there, yet McCain's CA's look the other way. Why? 102208 2:05 more

This past week, buried in the back part of the papers, Iraqi newspapers reported that during Obama's visit to Iraq , he asked their leaders to do nothing about the war until after he is elected, and he will "Take care of things". Oh, and by the way, remember the college roommates that where born in Pakistan ? They are in charge of all those "small" Internet campaign contribution for Obama. Where is that money coming from? The poor and middle class in this country? Or could it be from the Middle East ? And the final bit of news. On September 7, 2008, The Washington Times posted a verbal slip that was made on "This Week" with George Stephanapoulos. Obama on talking about his religion said, "My Muslim faith". When questioned, "he make a mistake". Now the BIG question - If I found out all this information on my own, Why haven't all of our "intelligent" members of the press been reporting this? A phrase that keeps ringing in my ear - "Beware of the enemy from within"!!!  more

Resolved Question: Is this grant a fraud or for real?

I received a letter from Biotech Direct Grant, from Canada. It says the following "On behalf of the Grants Association, we are proud to announce that your grant in the amount of $57,500.00 has been approved. This grant is not a loan. It can be used to start a small scale business, pay tuition fees, down payment on a home if you are interested in buying a home, and do housing repairs, to pay bills or medical expenses. Your approval documentation was sent to your Company by th grant board of commission from the processing office. Everything was evaluated by our legal department and this leaves you as the sole beneficiary of the grant. A check for $2,975.00 has been enclosed to enable you to pay for the Internation Clearance fee and our commission fee of $5,500.00 will be deducted from your grant, a certified check in the amount of $52,000.00 as your total grant will be forwarded to your mailing address. Once your payment is confirmed and the deduction of our commission fee is made, you will be ceceiving your certified check within 2 business days through DHL, FEDEX or UPS." What is this? They enclosed a real check for $2,975.00 to pay for the Internation Clearance fee but I haven't signed anything don't know what to do. Any suggestions? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Obama is slamming Palin for supposedly ties to lobbyists, but do you guys know about his ties? ?

Obama’s Early Campaigns Financed by Lobbyists Monday, September 8, 2008 3:29 PM By: Kenneth R. Timmerman While Sen. Barack Obama takes great pride in having recruited more than 1.2 million donors to his presidential campaign — many of whom contributed less than $100 — he hasn’t always been a man in touch with the grass roots. Indeed, his early campaigns for the Illinois state Senate were heavily financed by well-connected business leaders, lobbyists, trial lawyers, and labor unions, a Newsmax review of campaign finance records shows. Obama launched his first campaign for the Illinois Senate in July 1995 with a $5,000 loan from Al Johnson, a prominent Cadillac dealer in Chicago who was a close crony of Jesse L. Jackson Sr. Johnson boasted of having provided luxury cars to Jackson free of charge, as I reported in my 2002 book, "Shakedown: Exposing the Real Jesse Jackson." Johnson added another $2,000 to the pot as a contribution to the campaign in September 1995, making him Obama’s single largest supporter. Not all of the Friends of Obama campaign reports are available online through the state of Illinois Web site. While there is no specific record available showing that he paid off the $5,000 loan to Al Johnson, his June 30, 1997 financial statement shows that his campaign’s debts had been reduced from $12,494.38 to $3,637.01. The connection to Johnson came through Michelle Obama, who reportedly had been close to Jesse Jackson and his family since childhood. Obama’s only other contributor in the early days of his campaign was Tony Rezko, the Chicago slumlord and developer convicted in July on 12 counts of wire and mail fraud. Rezko gave Obama $2,000 in July 1995 as corporate donations from Lakeside Refreshments and Rezko Foods, both of which he controlled. Obama has said he never intervened on behalf of Rezko in state or federal business, and did not benefit from a sweatheart land deal with the convicted felon, although Rezko sold him a lot next to Obama’s house in Chicago at what appeared to be below-market prices. But in the 1990s, Obama’s Chicago lawfirm represented Rezko and his company, Rezmar Corp, as Rezko won government grants to build low-income housing for the poor. Both Rezko and his wife, Rita, worked on Obama’s first state Senate campaign in 1995, in addition to contributing money directly and through corporate entities. Once Obama was elected as a first-time state senator in 1996, he turned increasingly to big labor and big donors. Money from Political Action Committees (PACs) — the vehicles used by lobbyists and labor unions — often outweighed contributions from individuals by as much as 10-to-1. For the first half of 1997, for example, he collected $12,200 from PACs and trial lawyers, and just $4,175 from individuals. But even here, $2,000 of the money accounted for as individual contributions came from Rezko Concessions and Rezmar Corp, both of which were controlled by Tony Rezko. For the first half of 1998, this trend continued, with just $1,505 collected from individuals and $13,500 from PACs. Tony Rezko provided food valued at $457.70 that was listed as an “in-kind” contribution. As the 1998 elections approached, Obama picked up close to $30,000 from individuals, and an additional $23,850 from lobbyists. His single largest contribution — $5,000 — was from the Illinois Political Action Committee for Education (IPACE), the political arm of the state teachers’ union. His second largest — $3,000 — came from the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. Next, with $1,000 each, came PACs representing the Teamsters, Social Workers, lawyers, dentists, the Chicago Teacher’s Union. A wide variety of local and federal labor unions gave him smaller amounts. By January 1999, lobbyists and lawyers had become his single largest source of funding. For the first half of 2000, Obama no longer bothered to solicit individual campaign contributors, while raising $14,600 from the lobbyists. Even though 2000 was an election year, he only raised $2,400 from individuals that fall, while raking in $28,560 from lobbyists and lawyers. And of the $2,400 from individuals, more than half came from Evanston, Ill., lawyer, Larry Suffredin Jr. “Obama’s source of support comes from the very far left of the Democrat party — unions, trial lawyers, social workers — not individuals,” said Cleta Mitchell, a partner in the Washington, D.C. law firm Foley and Lardner, which specializes in campaign finance law. “So, now they try to say they have all this money from little people. He didn’t get there with small contributions from little people. He got there with being financed for a number of years by ultra left wing interests.” It was those larger interests that provided the seed money and expertise that allowed the Obama campaign to build the broad base of smaller donors that his campaign now boasts of having recruited, Mitchell told Newsmax. My question is- Why is Obama slamming Palin when he's done worse? Please don't answer my question with a question. Is it too difficult to answer my question? Thus far, people are evading the question and saying, "but, but... Well, what about..." Come on, let's answer the question.Morbus- NewsMax has provided their sources, so your arguement is NULL AND VOID. more

Resolved Question: SBA Loan, consequences?

My friend took out an SBA(small business association?) Loan a couple months back and hasn't made any payments on it. Thing is, he did it through a "broker" and he kinda took out a loan from a business that doesn't really exist, I guess he used a "loophole" or something. At any rate, what are the consequences? He already obviously expects to have his credit ruined, but any other penalties? He's done with banks and loans and houses, just wants to get away from everything, doesn't care about his credit anymore. He's worried he might get arrested though or be stopped at the airport, can this happen? more

Resolved Question: Who provides grant money to start a small business??

I have a friend who lost her job with a Dell call center in Oregon & she is trying to find government or private people that provide funding to start a small business. She tried the Small Business Association, but they require adequate equity investment, evidence of ability to repay the loan from earrnings & reasonable amount of collateral. Also, they do NOT provide grants. She has researched the business she wants to start, but she cannot meet the requirements of the SBA & she would prefer grant money. Like she told them, over half of ALL new businesses fail within the 1st 5 years due to lack of operating capital & they want me to pay THEM back instead of being able to put the money back into the business to see that it succeeds. ANY IDEAS from you folks???? Do you know of anyone who has gotten a business grant & from whom it came???? THANK YOU!!!! more

Resolved Question: How do you pay taxes, s.s.,insurance, etc. in the U.S.(FL) as a self-employed contractor? Is there a website?

For some time,It has seemed that the only way I could earn what I'm worth around here(FL), and make ends meet, was to do side-work, Now that has become full-time and then some. I can do almost unlimited work as a diesel mechanic for a small co. that wants to pay me by the job very well but as a contractor. I would like to find instructions on paying taxes, s.s, comp.?,unemp.?, incorporation, licensing, etc., to make this a legal and more secure thing to do full-time. I know a lot of other tradesman do this, plumbers, carpenters, painters, etc., but I was hoping for a website or association so I can work on setting myself up in business at night while I'm off. I'm particularly worried about getting injured in a work accident. Also any information preparing towards a business loan, towards more equipment and tools later would be helpful. more

Resolved Question: Selling stuff on eBay I live in Houston HOW DO I DECLARE MYSELF A BUSINESS AND START PAYING TAXES?

I need to know exactly what forms I must fill out and exactly what fees need to be paid, so I can do things legitimately via ebay. I am already established and am just now starting to make profits. Everytime I try to do research via the internet or the local Small Business Association, they all start off with the the same thing - "Make a business plan", "Apply for a loan". "I DON'T NEED A BUSINESS PLAN AND I DON'T NEED FINANCING FOR THE BUSINESS!!" With very low maintenance, I am just selling an inventory of items on the side, and don't want to get busted down the road for not paying taxes. I know every state is different, but like I said, I just need to be spoon fed, where I go what I fill out, and what fees I must pay. I have already decided I would probably want to be a LLC. more
