Harlow Galbreath's new restaurant, State Line Pizza, has been satisfying those pizza cravings since the business opened May 26. State Line Pizza is located at 503 Minnesota Street in the back of NE Iowa Liquidators in downtown Chester. The restaurant offers both take-out and a small dine-in area every Tuesday through Sunday. Owning a restaurant is new for Galbreath, but running a business is not. He purchased the NE Iowa Liquidators building in 2004 and has owned and operated the business in Chester for the past four years. Prior to the move, his business was located in Harmony, Minn. The Chester man is not a newcomer to the restaurant industry. He got his start in the business in the 1960s, snagging a job as a salad boy at the Thunderbird Motel in Bloomington, Minn. and eventually working his way up to a job as a chef. more
Two Triad banks see profits, albeit narrower The Business Journal
Two Triad community banks reported profitable second quarters Monday morning, though those profits were smaller than a year ago.
FNB United Corp. (Nasdaq: FNBN), which is based in Asheboro and is the parent company of CommunityONE bank, said it eared $140,000 in the second quarter, down from $3.7 million earned in the second quarter of 2007.
Mount Airy-based Surrey Bancorp (OTC: SRYB) said its profits in the second quarter were $435,258, down from $725,038 a year earlier.
Both banks cited the steep drop in interest rates over the past year as a major contributor to the weakened profits. Those lower interest rates have squeezed the margins banks earn on loans they make, compared to what they have to pay out on deposits.
Both banks continue to monitor credit quality, which has become an issue for many small banks as the economy has soured. more

Open Question: This article claims huge government spending is what will restore the economy. Do you agree with this?
Basics of Depression Economics The housing-bubble burst, banks and the stock market have collapsed, but a new economic danger has now taken control. Consumers have cut spending like a no time since the Great Depression. Worse yet, they've got excellent reasons to spend less, and that's not about to change. People aren't buying, so business isn't selling, so employees are getting laid off—by the millions. Unemployment is around 10% That's getting close to depression territory. The Great Depression was horrible and went on for 12 years. We can't let this happen again. But do we know what to do? Amazingly, we do. Banking is complicated, but lack of demand (buying) is pretty simple. The solution was figured out in the depression and applied from 1940 to 1944. And it worked like you would not believe. The GDP grew 75% in those four years. Five times faster than under Reagan-Bush, three times faster than under Clinton. Never before nor since has the U.S. economy grown this fast, and I don't think any other economy has either. Starting from the Great Depression, the U.S. build the mighty industrial machine that won World War II. So what was the trick? Enormous, wasteful government spending. In those four years, the government borrowed and spend the equivalent of $15 trillion in today's economy. And the spending was for economically useless battleships and bombs. These do not make our economy one tiny bit more productive. Economically, no spending is more wasteful. Now I'm not suggesting, useless spending is a good idea. We should spend as wisely as possible. But spending itself is what works in a depression. Other times we should pay down the debt—like Clinton did and Bush did not. And always we should spend wisely. Why does deficit spending work even if it's wasteful? In bad times, when jobs are lost, savings in homes and stocks is lost, people spend less. And they should. For there own good, they must. But this hurts local stores, local repair men and construction workers, and national industries like autos and computers. The situation is simple: Individuals must and should spend less, but this is terrible for businesses and their employees. We cannot ask individuals to spend what they can't afford or do not have. To get us out of this trap, we must ask our government to do what we cannot do ourselves. This is why we have a government. The great danger "It's time for government to tighten their belts and show the American people that we 'get' it." (CBS) House Republican Leader John Boehner, March 8, 2009. Boehner is saying, the government should cut back on spending just like we are forced to. But if the government spends less that means it lays people off and buys few goods from private companies, so these companies will lay people off. In a recession, this is just insane. This is also the same conservative ideology that kept us in the great depression for 12 years. It restrained Roosevelt who did too little and only got us half way out until World War II. This thinking also influenced Roosevelt and made him more timid. The craziest part of Boehner's view is that accepting it would destroy capitalism, while Keynes, Roosevelt, and their modern equivalents A Survival Plan for Capitalism, are trying to save capitalism. moreOpen Question: Why is bill gates a good leader paper... Washington DC 20008 By a old unskilled writer in Eugene Oregon but do not let that make you over look this serious point of history and is change coming fast enough? And what is hampering peaceful growth? The United Nations as been around for over 60 years to stop all war after world war II and yet do we see peace and security? After World War I they set up the same idea program of nations and yet World War II came! So where is the proof mankind can rule without God's help? If not one person ever once ignored Romans 12:19 would there be peace and security on earth forever? From King James Bible "Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord." For that to work not one person can ignore that even once! But with imperfect free will today and bad attitudes earth wide can the world hope for that to ever be a real hope? If God said vengeance is mine is it his will any "Christian" nation go to war with any nation Christian or otherwise? Or does church and state of all kinds world wide at war time conflict with God's will? About religion that back selfish governments not God's loving kingdom righteous will, will the governments and U.N. get the revenue income idea and eat up their counterfeit secular businesses that only put on a show of being a religion if they willfully ignore God's vengeance rule above? The point I am trying to make is here, Jesus did not like the religious leaders of his day [or our day] making all that money off the poor needy worshipers in a greedy way right in his Father's house of worship. Jesus said at John 2:16, 17 "And he said to those selling the doves: “Take these things away from here! Stop making the house of my Father a house of merchandise!” His disciples called to mind that it is written: “The zeal for your house will eat me up.” Our zeal for God's house of worship should make us feel the same way! "One scholar says that Jesus' action in evicting the merchants "was aimed not only at the prestige of the priests but at their pockets." So have a tax law going after the clergy and their greed that will benefit all nations and bring peace and security! Obama speaking to the nation, "Change has not come fast enough," Obama said before a politician-packed House chamber and a TV audience of millions. "As hard as it may be, as uncomfortable and contentious as the debates may be, it's time to get serious about fixing the problems that are hampering our growth." Are counterfeit secular businesses that only put on a show of being a religion hampering our growth? Government leaders of all nations for world peace and security give power to the United Nations to tell all religious leaders to obey the vengeance right rule or we will back tax you out of business! Preach only peaceful things no vengeance in any form at all but God's if we preach otherwise! Make Peace and Security your focus point for all you’re preaching! Or we will outlaw you as a counterfeit religion working against world peace and security! God wants us all to get along not fight and he means you to! Internationally, nationally, locally, and family too! Are we in need of skills in that area of life? Where can we get those skills? Biblical Christian law for a start? How about Matthew 7:12 for a start? And read right after that in the Bible of Matthew chapter 7 and note the bad things that will come to us if that one area is ignored by any of us big or little person in the world! moreResolved Question: WHAT SHOULD BE THE RESUME BACKGROUND TO BE PRESIDNENT?

Before you answer, I didn't vote for Bush Jr. But I surely did not vote for Obama based on the same criteria. Although Bush ran a state as it's elected leader, Obama ran what? WTF is in this mans resume that made him "qualified" to sit behind the desk of the most powerful position on the planet? If any person voted for him because he's black, that's absolutely idiotic! If anyone voted for him because he has a great ability to verbally communicate, equally stupid! If he received a single vote as an "anti Bush" move, that it is the biggest waste of a vote! So why??? What's in this man's resume that makes him qualified as the leader of economics? What does this man have that makes him the best qualified to run a multi trillion $ corporation or economy? I mean, this guy buys up all of these failed firms, then he essentially lobbies the government in order to get some program passed that will subsidize this business. He is a billionaire, and he says that his newly created megacompany will be profitable this year (as opposed to last year whent hey weren't profitable DESPITE the so-called Cash for Clunkers program). It just seems like the kind of business as usual messing with the economy where a few government bureaucrats and politicians make decisions as if they know better than millions of autonomous decision makers (otherwise known as customers!). I also thought it was telling that Mr. LaHood (who was a politician from Barack's "home" state of Illinois and is now Secretary of Transportation) said “I’m going to leave it to Congress to decide,” as if he had the authority to actually pass laws and authorize spending but in this case just chooses not to exercise it. They act as if Cash for Clunkers is some kind of accomplishment for Congressional leaders and Obama, but I ask, what kind of accomplishment is it to destroy something? Research the Broken Window Fallacy, and you'll see that destruction is destruction of wealth. Destroying something doesn't create wealth. It destroys it. Having to make something new is a net loss for society, and borrowing to finance the destruction is a double loss because you are borrowing against future prosperity. If the Fed just simply prints more money to finance it, as opposed to financing the program through debt, it is also a double loss because EVERYONE'S money will decrease in value, thanks to inflation. This is simply another form of taxation, but one that is not as obvious. moreVoting Question: Religious leadership are they "obscenely" greedy and focus on counterfeit ways to fool people out of money?

In a brief appearance with advisers at the White House, Obama branded the latest round of bank bonuses as "obscene." “Holy Priest” Obscene in Jesus day over money too, "There is evidence that onetime high priest Annas and his family had a vested interest in the temple merchants. Rabbinic writings speak of "the [temple] Bazaars of the sons of Annas." Revenue from the money changers and from the sale of animals within the temple grounds was one of their main sources of income. One scholar says that Jesus' action in evicting the merchants "was aimed not only at the prestige of the priests but at their pockets." Be that as it may, his enemies surely wanted to do away with him!—Luke 19:45-48." Like the ones today who are faithful to Christ' Father, note Matthew 24:45-47 as to what they are faith to in a spiritual way. Have we noticed the big money bonuses as obscene with clergy in our day? Or do we ignore them believing they are too holy to be that obscene toward the love of money like Annas? To expose them is a need, not obscene at all! IV- JEREMIAH, A key to success. Nothing happens unless first we dream. Dreams are the touchstones of our characters. Prices are going up and up in the country inspite of media highlighting the current price trend on TV. I wish to point out that prices are normally at least 25% higher in the state of Tripura. Why not TV channels are portraying the price picture of Tripura State. At the same time I like to mention here that why TV media is spoiling their precious time on highlighting the news on accidents, murders, rape, bollyhood hero love affairs, personal matters pertaining to political leaders etc when they are of no use and no relevance for general viewers. Are these news considered by you as helpful in creation of healthy environment conducive for growth of healthy culture? TV media devote time on Ruchika and Rathore when court delivered judgment on the case. Why media were silent for 19 years? Why are they not investigating story of lacs of similar other cases pending in various courts for decades. There are thousands of Rathores in the administration, banks, government departments, armed forces and PSUs where promotions and postings are done not on the basis of merit but purely on the basis of recommendations and flattery to bosses. In a country where merit is not respected and given due recognition, there is no question of improvement in overall image of the country. It is essential to expose those executives, ministers and CEOs who have got the top post not by merit by corrupt and unethical means. Even courts are not reliable because they also act and react on the basis of underhand dealings. Why is there so much delay in court proceedings culminating in judgment? Why don't you expose the ugly affairs of court? It is undeniably right to say that delayed justice is the root cause of increasing crime and corrupt culture. Until there is a fear in the minds of wrong doers we cannot dream of stopping the same. Media being the fourth pillar of democracy has the capacity to induce healthy practice and feed sound inputs so that viewers are motivated in right direction. Prices of all edible food grains are continuously rising. In past three four decades I think price never shoot up so much high and so much quickly and speedily in the past, even during Indira’s rule. Prices are increasing brakeless and unabated. It seems more ridiculous when government claims that it is watchful and monitoring properly the trend of price. It gives the message that political leaders do not mean what they say. Reason behind current price in my opinion is undoubtedly o Neta –Traders and Neta-share broker nexus and it is be beyond the control of the government or the administration. Mr. Sharad Pawar openly says prices will go up. When Ministers issues such irresponsible statement, market overreacts and it is natural. Even opposition parties are silent, almost silent. It shows there are also black sheep in opposition camp. In parliamentary system it is only opposition which can save people of India from misrule of ruling government. If opposition parties also become silent spectator of rising prices, people are helpless. Media makes so much hue and cries through TV and print media every now and then. But there is none in the camp of ruling or opposition camp to bother. Ruling government has got a lame excuse and they always talk of global warming or global economic slowdown or bad climate and easily they hide the mistakes of Indian system and also underlying corruption, unethical profit making through hoarding and arbitrary fixing of rates on all commodities . Opposing parties due to their internal problems have also turned deaf ear to painful price rise. Business house are however very much clever and they keep good relation with all political parties. Obviously leaders of all parties enjoy and it is only common men who suffer the most. Leaders of UPA government blame state governments for current price rise and accuse them for spurt in prices. But they forget that prices are rising even in those states where UPA is in power. When government is not bothered, let the public suffer and revolt against price rise. Minister of external affairs advised students not to prefer education in Australia because it is not in their control to stop violence going on in Australia against Indians unabated. Now it is also possible that Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India will advise the common men to avoid buying commodities which are not in their reach and remain content with grass and tea leaves. OVERRATED???????? People here act as if the only way he can accomplish something is because he is Stephanie's husband. Then what were you people saying when he was dominating before he married her??? He worked his way to the top and has been an asset to the WWF/WWE in so many ways. -He has been in the best feuds with the likes of Jericho, Stone Cold, Taker, HBK, The Rock etc.. - Any match he performs in is always great no matter who he wrestles with. - He has helped revolutionize this business and was apart of the most contoversal faction in WRESTLING history hands down and I don't want to here anything about NWO or whatever. He helped the careers of Billy Gun, Road Dogg and X-Pac along with Chyna during the early DX days. When he is a heel he is the most contoversal and most hated and when he is a face he sells merchandise and is an icon. When he gets in the ring you have to be at your A game during the entire match because he is a wrestler that makes no mistakes. He has the best ring strategy and ring smarts and has beaten them all in the business. He has a great combo of strength, ability, mic skills, and charisma. He is a 13 time champion, won the royal rumble, won the king of the ring, and when he was a heel he was the best heel and he is also the best face right now. *Best heel during early 2000s *Best face now *Had the best feuds performing feud of the year three times with Kurt, Benoit, and Angle. *13x World Champ *2x European Champ *5x Intercontinental champ *2x Tag champ *grand slam champ *triple crown *Royal Rumble winner *King of the Ring winner 2000 WRESTLER OF THE FREAKIN YEAR! This man despite the unnecessary criticism he gets finds a way to be great in all aspects and just rack up awards. When he is a heel he is hated and seriously hated by all and when he is a face he sells merchandise and gets the crowd going. His charisma is great and his ring ability with a versatile move set and high ring IQ along with top endurance is unmatched. Any match you put him in is a prime time match because he is a great performer that knows what it takes to make a dramatic match. He has no weakness when he is in the ring. He can wrestle in any kind of match and is good in every single aspect of wrestling when it comes to reversals, move-set, endurance, strength, technical ability, submissions (figure four, sharpshooter, and more), brawling and hardcore. He may not be the best in some categories but he is good or great in all. Only a few moves???? Suplex Nech breakers Sharp shooter Figure Four Sleeper DDT Spin Buster Pedigree Back breaker Abdominal stretch Reverse DDT Many freaking more because the list goes on and his move-set is versatile. He is great as a tag team wrestler and will pass Ric Flair one day as the all time leader in world titles. He was great before he got married and I think its a cop out and an excuse to not give GREATNESS the proper respect GREATNESS deserves. Revolutionary- check Wrestling skills- check Mic skills- CHECK! Controversal- Check Ring IQ- Check +++++++++++ When he gets in the ring name a weakness he has. I dare you! (Can't be done) He also along with Flair helped boost the careers of Batista and Orton and helped develop them and look where they are at. Why? because when anything comes near greatness, greatness rubs off onto it. Triple H= greatness, Orton and Batista worked with him and developed. They are now great!!! Mr. Edwards (owns a whore house but is highgly respected in the community. beats cathy almost to death.) 12.) Sam Hamilton (the most moral character of the book. symbol of all that is good in people. mentor to Adam, friend of lee.) 13.) Ethel (ugly and nasty on the outside but only because she was forced into a life of whoring and was beaten and arrested so many times. dumb. but good on the inside) 14.) Faye (leader of the whorehouse that cathy takes over. as far as whorehouse owners go she was very nice and good. when cathy comes she makes her will entirely out to her and then cathy kills her for the inheritance and takes over the whorehouse) 15.) Will Hamilton (mentor to both cal and adam, gives people advice on how to spend, invest, and make money, business genius. he is rich and succesful but it has made him distant to family and friends some of the characters listed were good and not necisarily monsters but mainly im looking for a mythical "creature" for the creatures rather than a monster per say. thank you. moreResolved Question: Nathan S. Nathan S. Jones from Eugene Oregon ask Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski, will Religious Fraud Counterfeiters be punished soon? Deviamaria user name on Yahoo Answers said to my question, "Stop making the house of MY Father a house of merchandise!” Why did Jesus say that about HIS Father's house? Deviamaria said, "They were gambling and marketing in the temple, Jesus got angry. As I agree, houses of worship are there for the benefit of the congregation, not for profit. When you gamble and sell in God's house you have taken the heart away from worship and onto monetary gain." Jesus said at John 2:16,17 "And he said to those selling the doves: “Take these things away from here! Stop making the house of my Father a house of merchandise!” His disciples called to mind that it is written: “The zeal for your house will eat me up.” Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski, Religious Fraud Counterfeiters will be punished soon! From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia , "In the broadest sense, a fraud is an intentional deception made for personal gain or to damage another individual. The specific legal definition varies by legal jurisdiction. Fraud is a crime, and is also a civil law violation. Many hoaxes are fraudulent, although those not made for personal gain are not technically frauds. Defrauding people of money is presumably the most common type of fraud," Are the clergy making a personal gain behind doors owning stores that sell gifts etc.? Would that be a wrong motive to keep a counterfeit fraud going? For a "Christian" clergy would his credit as a genuine Christian leader be dishonored and proof of being a fraud in it for their personal gain? "Civil law, as opposed to criminal law, is the branch of law dealing with disputes between individuals and/or organizations, in which compensation may be awarded to the victim." Is not the whole world the victim of clergy fraud looking at it that way? How many know there is no Bible authority for such pagan customs and yet allow it to keep going on as if it is a genuine Bible teaching? Compensation needed to be awarded the genuine religious victims of the whole world now by those who have made great personal gain from this and other world wide fraud con jobs like it! Peace and Security might have a chance if the counterfeit teachers were put out of business for good! Genuine Christians who have been their victims can now be awarded for their honest genuine deeds to the whole world! WHO ARE THEY? (See Matthew 24:45-47) Have the Governor of Oregon look into who they really are! Christians [and others who follow this custom] note what Encyclopedias Say "There is not one word in the New Testament, or anywhere in the Bible, telling us to observe Christmas. The Christians of the first century, under the inspired teachings of Peter, and Paul, and the apostles, never observed it. There is NO BIBLE AUTHORITY for its observance, strange as it may seem. Then where did we get "Christmas?" Since it has come to us thru the Roman Catholic church, and has no authority but that of the Roman Catholic Church, let us examine the Catholic Encyclopedia, published by that Church. Under the caption "Christmas," you will find: "Christmas was not among the earliest festivals of the Church . . . the first evidence of the feast is from Egypt . . . Pagan customs, centering around the January calends, gravitated to Christmas." And, further, we find this truth acknowledged: "In the Scripture, sinners alone, not saints, celebrate their birthday." The example was set [by the faithful Christians] for us not to follow the pagan religious ways at all, ever! "Fraud is a crime, and is also a civil law violation." Is not the whole world the victim of clergy fraud looking at it that way? I have my personal reason to have the Governor of Oregon to deal with this subject first. So I will make hard copies to fax and mail to him more than others. But this info has been sent to the President and others too in different forms. Fraudulent leaders took over by that time a counterfeit form of a faith that left the genuine faith. The genuine faith was still around but hated like today too! Without good cause! The counterfeit fraudulent secular faiths will be put out of business soon! If they back tax them for all the years of fraud teachings the world money problems will be fixed! Is that a good looking picture for the future of the victims of that great fraud? This info above was sent by mail to the Governor today. Searchweb search Ask Answer Discover Search for questions: Advanced Search My Profile Home > Answer a Question 2 Preview your answer No Country Question How come muslims are very bad at sports? Hello, in my world culture unit in school we are doing a project on how each race has unique talents which make them a valuable demographic to a larger unified world. I chose to convey this doctrine by showing a variety of different ethnic groups with specific examples and what they excel at. So far my project incorporates Michael Phelps(Caucasian-USA) as the best swimmer and proven greatest athlete of the world of all time, Hussein Bolt(n^e^g^r^o-Jamaica) as the up and coming short distance superstar and arguably the second greatest athlete of all time, Yao Ming(Han Chinese-China) as one of the most dynamic modern basketball players in the National Basketball Association, George St. Pierre(Caucasian-Canada) and Anderson Silva(n^e^g^r^o-Brazil) as the single two greatest mixed martial artists to grace the sport (I'm not talking about theatrical spectacle such as Jacky Chan or Bruce Lee, rather actual proficiency in the sport of MMA), Mark Spitz(Caucney Jew-USA) as the second greatest swimmer of all time after Michael Phelps, and a plethora of less notable examples from a variety of different ethnicities. What I have noticed is that Muslim people haven't achieved anything at all in the realm of sports, and I am trying to understand the reasoning behind this. I know ultra orthodox muslims do not partake in a lot of sports because it conflicts with their extremist beliefs, especially the women who can't really wear any sort of athletic uniform without being beaten in the streets by their "owners". But I go to school with a lot of Muslims, and they really aren't good at anything pertaining to athletics; I am on the wrestling team there are a few muslim kids in my weight class and a few in heavier weight classes, and I have never had trouble plowing through them. I don't intend for this to sound hateful or vulgar, rather I'm pursuing an explanation as to why muslims suck at sports. Also I was hoping that Muhammad Ali was muslim so I could use him as an example for my project, BUT ethnically he is n^e^g^r^o not arab, and as it turns out he is an agnostic, not muslim. So no Muhammad Ali is just another black guy who is great at his chosen sport. Edit: Yahoo answers is flawed and changed the word n^e^g^r^o to ******. N^e^g^r^o is the ethnic classification of my people, I don't understand why YA! would conflict with this. Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Liberal, Conservative or something else ?
I am politically confused. I want to where do I lean ? SO I i am going to write down the major issues and where I stand,, and I want YOU guys to decide for me based on what I write for ALL the issues and decice what am I ? Foreign Policy/Terrorism: I think we should fight Al-Qaeda and the Taliban whereve it is, and kill its members without mercy, but we should not invade countries that have nothing to do Al-Qaeda like Iraq(Hussen was a moderate muslim) or Iran(they are shia, not sunni). But I do agree with Afghanistan's mission and wish we send more troops. Israel must be supported but talking with rogue leaders should be given a chance. We also must maintain are nuclear capability and never surrende it. America should work with its allies, but it should also put pressure on them to share burdens. We should have a New World Older and help in humanitarian mission, but not take sides in a civil war. Healthcare: I think people should choose what they want. If people can afford private insurance, they should have it. If people cannot afford, there should be options for poor people. I also think government should be involved to an extent and make sure people, especially women remain slim, and don't get fat, cause we lack having thin women.Veterans should be treated with more respect, and have half price on medical costs. Also doctors cannot be sued for no reason. That must stop. There must be tort reform. Only doctors that are reckless without any regard should be sued. Education: Teachers should be paid more if they are good teachers. Period. Good teaching means the kids learn and do well in class. There should be extra help provided to students in case they don't understand the material. Critical thinking skills and logic must be taught early in a child's life to prepare them for standardized tests. Also Corporal punishment like caning should be used on parents not involved in kids education. Evolution and sex eduaction must be taught in school. Reasonable accomodation should be provided to kids that wish to pray. Gay curriculum like that penguin book is not needed in schools. Gays only need to be mentioned during Sex ed. Our budget must spend more on education and work-fare programs for those that are are not sure of college should be allowed. Gun Control: People should have whatever guns even assault rifles, BUT as long as they pass strict background tests. If people are found to be reckless, they have no business having guns. Also no hard drug users should ever have guns. Drug testing should be required. Energy: We must invest in many forms of alternative energy. Oil should not be the only one. More experimentation and exploration needs to be done. At the same time, there should be investment in Euroepan and Japanese style of high speed rail and urban transportation to Europeanize American cities. The Amtrak Acela is a joke. It's not real HSR. Real HSR means 250 mph to 300 mph. Even China has us beat on this. I am not talking about coast to coast, but regional services like in the Northeast, Southwest, Northwest, Midwest, and Southeast should have high speed rail corridors. Eminent domain must be used and protests against this should be crushed brutally. We must have more urban transportation European/Japan style transporation in other cities of America as well aside from NYC, Chicago, Boston, and DC. Economy: Capitalism and free markets shouhd be allowed but with reason. Local and small business must never be allowed to suffer.Compeition is key. A McDonalds or Wallmart cannot for example move nearby a 100 year old bar/restaraunt or a mom and pop shop . It will destroy business. There should be free trade, but CEOs cannot make indiscriminate amounts of money or cheat people to make their profits. 1 or 2 Months of paid vacaction should be allowed in workers of high skilled jobs. Crime/Judical: Death penalty should be reserved for those that commit cold, calutated, pre-mediated and heinous crimes. If a a gunman robs a shop, and kills the clerk cause the clerk grabbed his gun, that is not enough to sentence to death, life in prison is enough, BUT if the gunman ties the clerk up , after the clerk surrendered the money, and shoots, him, then the gunman should get automatic death. Child molesters(those that commit crimes to kids under 12) should be sent to work labor camps. Judges that give light sentencesd to them should join them in those camps. Immigration: There must be a large wall on the southern border due to the high crime rate. It must be large enough that they cannot cross. Coast guard must increase patrols in our water. LEGAL immigration is fine as long as people wait in line. Foreign students studying engineering or medicine with good grades that graduate with a Masters or MD should have the right to be U.S. citizens because they will contribute greatly. For unskilled workers, a guest worker program should be allowed since there are cer moreResolved Question: "Stop making the house of MY Father a house of merchandise!” Why did Jesus say that about HIS Father's house?

I mean this to be a serious question and I'm interested in truly thoughtful answers. I know that many Americans make the claim that we are the greatest nation on Earth, but I can't help if this is still true in 2009. Here's why I question this idea 1. The "American dream" is getting further out of reach for the average person. The dream being that if you work hard you can build a comfortable life and that your children will always have the chance for a better life than their parents. 2. The primary and secondary education system in the US is falling further and further behind the rest of the industrialized world. 3. Despite the increasing importance of a college education, it is becoming increasingly difficult to pay for college - at least without major sacrifice and/or going into serious debt. 4. More and more American companies are shipping their production over-seas and eliminating the blue collar manufacturing jobs which were the backbone of American prosperity for much of the 20th century. 5. For a number of reasons, America no longer commands the respect of the rest of the world like we once did. 6. Despite spending significantly more on health care per person than other countries, the US ranks much lower in many health statistics - including life expectancy. This despite the US being one of the world leaders in medical research and state of the art medical procedures. 7. Despite our nations wealth, much of our infrastructure is old and worn out. We literally have bridges collapsing due to wear. 8. Probably most important: Despite our many problems, the leaders of our country are increasingly paying more attention to the wants of special interests and big business than the actual needs of our nation. Regardless of the party in power, it seems more likely for a corporate tax shelter to become law than for funding for road repairs or education. Please don't misunderstand me. I love the freedoms I have as an American citizen - especially the freedom to ask such a question. But I can't help wondering if Americans as a people are to blinded by the glory of what we once were to focus on what we need to do today. For that matter, I wonder if we are still capable of what our grandparents did in the late 1930's and 1940's. Again, I intend this to be a serious question. I am hoping for more thoughtful answers than "If you don't like it here, then leave".Rox, I hate to agree with you, but I'm afraid the average American wouldn't even be able to find India on a map. moreResolved Question: What colleges would accept me?
Hi, I'm 16 and in the 11th grade. I haven't done phenomenal in my 9th and 10th grade year, but there is an obvious improvement. I'm an average A-/B+ student. I've been taking many AP's (AP Calc, AP Stats, AP Comp. Sci., AP US HIstory, AP Bio, and many honors classes over the years). My school does not offer many AP's. I do Cross-country and track. I'm a club leader. I volunteer at the library 2 hours a week and teach a language 2 hours a week. I am planning on feeding the homeless and doing beach clean-ups. I also have a financial difficulty because my father's business went bankrupt, but i still attend a private school. (does that affect me?) Also, I have a 2100 on the SAT. I know that I need awards...and I am an artist. I've recieved 4th place in an art contest, got a computer academic achievement award, and a small "scholarship" from my church for helping out. Could you tell me what else I should do to help my college application look good? Also since the economy is in recession...and its more difficult to get into many colleges...does it make my chances harder? :[ I really want to go to UCLA, UCSD, UCI...and then transfer to Brown/John Hopkins University later on in my life. The United States was founded on several assumptions. A key assumption, which led to several others, was that “the sum of individual interests” was equivalent to “the common interest.” In practical terms, this meant: 1. Individuals know best how to solve their own problems. 2. Government should promote economic growth to create jobs so that individuals can solve their own problems. 3. The best way for government to promote economic growth is to ask business leaders what can be done to help them make more money. Today, we know that our founders were fundamentally wrong on this point. The lesson of “The Tragedy of the Commons” is that “the sum of individual interests” is NOT “ the common interest.” In his 1968 classic, “The Tragedy of the Commons”, Garrett Hardin illustrated why freedom in the commons brings ruin to all 1. Business-as-usual depends upon jobs and markets to distribute goods and services. 2. Economic growth and increasing job availability require increasing net energy. 3. Net energy correlates with peak oil and both are expected to decrease for decades. See the “Net Hubbert Curve” 4. Decades of decreasing net energy will cause job opportunities to decrease for decades because less and less energy will be available for economic development. 5. Globally, millions of new workers enter the job market each year, but job availability is expected to decline by millions of positions each year. Eventually, the projected high unemployment among young men will cause catastrophic political failures similar to those that led to Hitler’s takeover of German democracy. Therefore, business-as-usual is no longer a viable method of distributing goods and services and a new method must be foundI see no one is familiar with "the commons" so here it is: The tragedy of the commons refers to a dilemma described in an influential article by that name written by Garrett Hardin and first published in the journal Science in 1968.[1] The article describes a situation in which multiple individuals, acting independently, and solely and rationally consulting their own self-interest, will ultimately deplete a shared limited resource even when it is clear that it is not in anyone's long-term interest for this to happen moreResolved Question: Dems turn pro-business - nearly half support weaker regulation of derivatives. Pro-business Democrats joined forces with Republicans in the House last night to weaken proposed reforms of Wall Street. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091211/ap_on_bi_ge/us_financial_overhaul House scales back proposed Wall Street rules "nearly half the Democrats teamed up with Republicans late Thursday to loosen restrictions on derivatives and reject tougher regulations... "The legislation still imposes restrictions on derivatives, aiming to prevent manipulation in and bring transparency to a $600 trillion global market. An amendment by New York Democrat Scott Murphy, adopted 304-124 Thursday night, exempted businesses that trade in derivatives, not as financial speculators, but to hedge against market fluctuations such as currency rates or gasoline prices. The amendment also provided an exception for businesses that are not considered too big to be a risk to the financial system. "A Democratic effort to make more companies subject to derivatives regulation failed 279-150. "On Wednesday, pro-business Democrats succeeded in making it harder for states to enforce their own consumer protection rules on national banks. "The bill is H.R.4173" First Obama decides war is good, now the Democrats turn pro-business. Are Democrats becoming Republicans? Have Democrats pushed the GOP out, just to sit down at the same desks doing the same things the Republicans were doing all along? Now that the Democrats are collecting the paycheck Republicans used to get, I'm sure they cry all the way to the bank to realize they were wrong all this time, and their former colleagues were right all along. Do you think they will send their former Republican colleagues a nice thank-you card, after tossing them out on the sidewalk and taking their jobs, just so they could continue doing what their former rivals were doing in the first place? moreResolved Question: What should I major in?
I'm a sophomore with 53hrs after the finals next week (I took summer classes) To make a long story short: first I was a finance major my first year, then changed to Pre-med during summer and this semester...and figured I'm not at all good at sciences. So, I decided to go back to Business and get an Accounting degree. the pre-med route ruined my gpa and the transcript with all Cs and Ws in sciences... I will be lucky if I get 3GPA after the grades of this semester (which will LOWER my gpa AGAIN). I had a 3.5 my freshman year with 33hrs. My question is, I'm tired of having to just take classes I dont really enjoy! I've always loved to take classes such as Body Language or any other interesting classes. But I never seem to find any course with that title. What do you think I should major in? QUICK STATS for those of you who doesn't want to read: Guaranteed A classes: Math and English (Odd combo, I know) I am: quite organized, very much into details. I believe in quality over quantity (I proof-read everything about 10times before I hand it in for grading) Bit obsessed with perfection (yes a perfectionist to some degree) NOT out going NOT a leader but would rise to the challenge (ONLY if HAVE TO) I don't study weeks for an exam like everyone assumes that I do Will add more if I come up with anything... Please help!!! I feel like nobody would even give me a job---even an internship---once they see the grades of summer and this semester! any advise will be REALLLLLY APPRECIATED! THANK YOU!!! moreResolved Question: Matt Damon box office leader, what do u think about it?
Matt Damon is the luckiest actor at box office. Cast Matt Damon in your film, and he will give you a better return than any other actor. from Forbes Matt Damon's agent no doubt sat up and paid attention yesterday morning when Forbes, the business magazine, pronounced his client to be a very particular sort of top movie star - the one who provides the best return on the studios' investment. That does not make him Hollywood's top celebrity - that honour, Forbes decided a couple of months ago, belonged to Brad Pitt, both for his on-screen successes and the tsunami of media coverage surrounding his marriage to Angelina Jolie. . A Matt Damon film, the magazine reported, will make back an average of $29 (£15) for every dollar the star is paid. That's roughly twice as much as Cruise or Tom Hanks. Pitt, who finished second on the Forbes list, will earn back about 24 times as much as he gets paid. moreResolved Question: URGENT action needed to reduce pollution. Is it time to end free trade?
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/08/science/earth/08climate.html Meeting on Climate Opens With Calls for Urgent Action In the spirit of international cooperation, world leaders agree that urgent action is needed to curb pollution. So I, for one, finally agree that we have no choice but to end free trade. How can we possibly justify the unneccesary burning of fossil fuels and the resulting pollution from all those ships crossing the ocean to bring cheap imports to Walmart, when the same items could be made right here in the USA for only a few dollars more. We can no longer sit silently as these huge vessels cross the ocean belching pollution and all those greenhouse gas emissions. How much longer must we continue the insanity of free trade, while it is contributing to global pollution and consuming fossil fuels? SECONDLY, bringing those jobs back to the USA would cut down on unemployment, which is another issue President Obama is addressing. The time for complacency is over. We can no longer sit back and say there's nothing we can do to end free trade. We can no longer idly stand by saying we care more about cheap prices at Walmart than we do about saving the environment. The time has come to limit imports, and cut the cord of dependency on foreign sweatshops to supply the household items we need for our daily existence. THIRDLY, if we cut imports by applying a tariff, the tariff would generate desperately needed revenues that would reduce our ruinous deficit, while reducing the trillion dollar trade deficit that increases our debt and weakens our currency. Deficit reduction is another one of the issues President Obama says we must address. In fact, during the campaign Obama himself said we must reform free trade: http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Barack_Obama_Free_Trade.htm OBAMA: For far too long, certainly during the course of the Bush administration with the support of Sen. McCain, the attitude has been that any trade agreement is a good trade agreement. And NAFTA did not have enforceable labor agreements and environmental agreements. And what I said was we should include those and make them enforceable. In the same way that we should enforce rules against China manipulating its currency to make our exports more expensive and their exports to us cheaper. And when it comes to South Korea, we’ve got a trade agreement up right now, they are sending hundreds of thousands of South Korean cars into the US. That’s all good. We can only get 4,000 to 5,000 into South Korea. That is not free trade. We’ve got to have a president who is going to advocate on behalf of American businesses and American workers and I make no apology for that Source: 2008 third presidential debate against John McCain Oct 15, 2008 Global trade is unsustainable if it favors only the few This is the moment when we must build on the wealth that open markets have created, and share its benefits more equitably. Trade has been a cornerstone of our growth and global development. But we will not be able to sustain this growth if it favors the few, and not the many. Together, we must forge trade that truly rewards the work that creates wealth, with meaningful protections for our people and our planet. This is the moment for trade that is free and fair for all. Source: Speech in Berlin, in Change We Can Believe In, p.268 Jul 24, 2008 Isn't it time, then, to make meaningful changes in our foreign trade policy, and start reducing our $2 trillion dollar a year habit of reliance on imports?Shovel Ready, correct! We have relocated our manufacturing pollution to other countries, where the same manufacturing creates even more pollution because of their lax or non-exitent environmental protections, PLUS we create the extra pollution of shipping the products back to the USA. So we cut down our pollution here and increased global pollution by two or three times as much. How smart was that?Terry, good point! Much of air travel is totally unnecessary business travel, and much of that is businessmen flying overseas to keep up with their outsourced production or to shop for a foreign sweatshop that makes the cheapest imports. We could cut way down on air travel by curtailing imports.Gee, I would think I would get a lot of answers from all those liberals who are so dedicated to saving the environment. Where are they today? moreResolved Question: Is this kind of boss a dud ?
A lack of "trust and integrity" was the main reason employees would "fire" a boss, a new survey has found. While a third of respondents to the poll, hosted by website badbossology.com, nominated trust as their main issue, 24 per cent would leave a micromanager. Other boss crimes were not providing development opportunities (12 per cent); not providing open and honest feedback (12 per cent); stealing credit for ideas and work (10 per cent); and not providing coaching support when needed (8 per cent). Management experts DDI Australia sponsored the survey and general manager Mark Busine was not surprised that trust was such an important issue. "Trust takes a long time to build and can be destroyed in an instant," he said. Mr Busine said "trust breakers" included: Bosses who focused on impressing senior managers while treating subordinates poorly (called "managing up"). Saying one thing and doing another. Breaking promises. Not managing bad employee behaviour such as a team member who was constantly late, who shirked tasks or disrupted other staff. Making decisions based on personal gain not on what would benefit the team or the business as a whole. Mr Busine said DDI's own research showed that organisations were falling short when it came to "preparing" employees for leadership. "If we are not preparing our leaders to be good managers then we are not creating good role models for future leaders and so the cycle (of poor management) continues," he said. "Our own research shows most people leave a job because of their relationship with their manager." Confronting a boss with some feedback about their behaviour and it's impact was one course of action to consider, Mr Busine said although he acknowledged this could be tough. "If there is no response to your feedback, then it's probably time to consider if the organisation is really the right place for you," Mr Busine said. However, "illegal" behaviour such as bullying, sexual harassment or discrimination should be reported to human resources. Kate Southam is the editor of careerone.com.au Characteristics of a dud boss •Delegates work that might end in failure to avoid blame. •Answers questions with "yes" or "no" rather than an explanation or reason. •Humiliates staff in front of other people. •Shows one face to staff and another to senior managers. •Creates an environment where people are not allowed to fail. •Won't stick up for staff if they make a mistake. •Brings personal problems to work. •Judges staff on hours worked rather the quality of their work. •Is a crisis manager, not a planner. moreResolved Question: University Career Crisis: Medicine, Business, both (Pharmacy/Biotech Industry), or Forensics?
Currently I'm having a major future career freak-out. Right now I'm in my sophomore year at university completing a joint major in Business and MBB (Microbi/Biochem). I chose science because I enjoy it and am good at it; business, because I wanted to try it since the future possibilities are very appealing to me. The issue is I don't know where I want to go after I get my bachelors. Pros of Business: -I love to travel and would like to get involved in the global market. -The life of an exec is very appealing; has the potential of making a lot of money. -Many options in the business world. -I find current political and economic events very interesting (I like to keep up with the what's going on in the world). -Can come with status and power Cons: -Has the potential of not making a lot of money; business stretches across a whole spectrum from monotonous low-paying cubical work, to exciting high-paying executive positions. -From the courses I've taken, I'm not into HR (business psychology has got to be one of the most boring branches of psych), not into accounting (do not like balancing numbers all day), and economics is so-so. -Won't feel like I'm "making a difference" for the betterment of mankind. -Recession??? Sciences/Medicine Pros: -I enjoy science (mainly biological) because I find it interesting; genetics/mbb is particularly relevant to me since I have the genetic predisposition for cancer and other heredity diseases. -MD/specialist is very respectable; I like the "Dr." title :) -Can feel I'm making a difference by helping heal people as a doctor, or as a scientist, help in preventing/curing certain genetic diseases. -Even though a business career may have a higher potential to make more, a doctor has a for-sure good pay. Cons: -As a scientist (MBB), I'm not really into doing research my entire life with only the possibility of making some scientific breakthrough. Don't want to just be a lab rat with a medium pay. -Medicine is EXPENSIVE in TIME and MONEY. I don't know if I want to go to school for 4 years, specialize for another 4, and realize I don't like what I'm doing. I hear doctors have a lot of overhead, plus taxation, etc. taking years to pay off debt and actually begin earning a solid living. -Even though my grades are good, I don't know when I'm gonna have the time or money for all the volunteer stuff for med school. Policing/Forensics Pros: -I love solving problems/puzzles and find criminology very interesting. I think I'd love investigative work (whether forensic or detective work). -Dead people/bodies don't disturb me. I've found myself able to stomach more graphic scenes than some of my peers. Perhaps it's because I can become emotionally detached. -Would feel really good to catch sons of a b***ches criminals. Whether it be wife beater, or child killer. Cons: -You first need to be a cop in order to do more advanced forensic fieldwork, and I'm physically not cop material and have no interest in handing out traffic tickets for 3 years with only the "possibility" of becoming a FIS. -Sure there's civilian forensic work, but I don't wanna be a lab rat who's told "analyze this and give me results" without knowing what's going on in an actual investigation. -Forensic pathology I find extremely interesting because it's a medical/bio-based forensic field where you "investigate" cause of death etc. However, in Canada you must be a pathologist first = med school. Personality: I'm competetive, but don't consider myself a "leader" per se (haven't had much opportunity to lead, so maybe I could be if I just came out of my shell a bit?). I really enjoy solving things. Put a lot of value in having status/respect (money helps but isn't everything). Do not like monotony! Etc. Etc. I apologize this is too long. It's just I think I'd enjoy any one of these in their own way and have no idea how to slash them. They all have pros and cons and I just wanna be able to try them all! moreVoting Question: what do i need to work on in order to get into an ivy league (or other good colleges)?
i am a 8th grader who is an overachiever. my dreams include going to a great college and have a nice future, but who doesn't? i understand there are probably millions of people who are thinking along the same line as me...but i need something to stand out. asking a question on yahoo answers is a very nice way to interact and speak to the world- to see what the world thinks. heres a little description about me : 8th grade. 4.0 GPA most of the time, sometimes higher... but i know i can do better. i'm scared that high school work will throw me off track and parties and social problems will probably come in the way. i take tennis lessons, interested in acting (participates in the drama club at times, but not currently), interested in singing (planning to get voice lessons), have some sort of artisitc ability, love to socialize and be a leader (though i need to take a public speaking course in H.S because i have trouble talking to large crowds in public), interested in writing(writing books...though i consider myself an amateur writer), and i am teaching myself the guitar (and i have experience in piano... 4 years of lessons, though i have quit). I sometimes have trouble concentrating only solely on school work and grades since i do have a life outside that. i was wondering..which classes should i take in high school based on my interests that are stated above? what will make me stand out on college applications? what do you recommend me to do in order to achieve in high school, instead of getting dragged down by other distractions? i want to either go to business school or law school. though i love entertaining & love the fashion industry. so idk what to do in the future.. i know fashion and the entertainment industry are VERY hard to succeed in, and so is business and law...but idk which to decide. talent or knowledge? so confusing... so what should i do now? but thanks SO much if you read this and are planning to answer my question(s). thanks...best answer gets 10 points...AND you get the satisfaction of helping a 13 year old girl (: moreResolved Question: Have you read this article on Obama? What do you think about it?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20091130/pl_politico/29993 Presidential politics is about storytelling. Presented with a vivid storyline, voters naturally tend to fit every new event or piece of information into a picture that is already neatly framed in their minds. No one understands this better than Barack Obama and his team, who won the 2008 election in part because they were better storytellers than the opposition. The pro-Obama narrative featured an almost mystically talented young idealist who stood for change in a disciplined and thoughtful way. This easily outpowered the anti-Obama narrative, featuring an opportunistic Chicago pol with dubious relationships who was more liberal than he was letting on. A year into his presidency, however, Obama’s gift for controlling his image shows signs of faltering. As Washington returns to work from the Thanksgiving holiday, there are several anti-Obama storylines gaining momentum. The Obama White House argues that all of these storylines are inaccurate or unfair. In some cases these anti-Obama narratives are fanned by Republicans, in some cases by reporters and commentators. But they all are serious threats to Obama, if they gain enough currency to become the dominant frame through which people interpret the president’s actions and motives. Here are seven storylines Obama needs to worry about: He thinks he’s playing with Monopoly money Economists and business leaders from across the ideological spectrum were urging the new president on last winter when he signed onto more than a trillion in stimulus spending and bank and auto bailouts during his first weeks in office. Many, though far from all, of these same people now agree that these actions helped avert an even worse financial catastrophe. Along the way, however, it is clear Obama underestimated the political consequences that flow from the perception that he is a profligate spender. He also misjudged the anger in middle America about bailouts with weak and sporadic public explanations of why he believed they were necessary. The flight of independents away from Democrats last summer — the trend that recently hammered Democrats in off-year elections in Virginia — coincided with what polls show was alarm among these voters about undisciplined big government and runaway spending. The likely passage of a health care reform package criticized as weak on cost-control will compound the problem. Obama understands the political peril, and his team is signaling that he will use the 2010 State of the Union address to emphasize fiscal discipline. The political challenge, however, is an even bigger substantive challenge—since the most convincing way to project fiscal discipline would be actually to impose spending reductions that would cramp his own agenda and that of congressional Democrats. Too much Leonard Nimoy People used to make fun of Bill Clinton’s misty-eyed, raspy-voiced claims that, “I feel your pain.” The reality, however, is that Clinton’s dozen years as governor before becoming president really did leave him with a vivid sense of the concrete human dimensions of policy. He did not view programs as abstractions — he viewed them in terms of actual people he knew by name. Obama, a legislator and law professor, is fluent in describing the nuances of problems. But his intellectuality has contributed to a growing critique that decisions are detached from rock-bottom principles. Both Maureen Dowd in The New York Times and Joel Achenbach of The Washington Post have likened him to Star Trek’s Mr. Spock. The Spock imagery has been especially strong during the extended review Obama has undertaken of Afghanistan policy. He’ll announce the results on Tuesday. The speech’s success will be judged not only on the logic of the presentation but on whether Obama communicates in a more visceral way what progress looks like and why it is worth achieving. No soldier wants to take a bullet in the name of nuance. That’s the Chicago Way This is a storyline that’s likely taken root more firmly in Washington than around the country. The rap is that his West Wing is dominated by brass-knuckled pols. It does not help that many West Wing aides seem to relish an image of themselves as shrewd, brass-knuckled political types. In a Washington Post story this month, White House deputy chief of staff Jim Messina, referring to most of Obama’s team, said, “We are all campaign hacks.” The problem is that many voters took Obama seriously in 2008 when he talked about wanting to create a more reasoned, non-partisan style of governance in Washington. When Republicans showed scant interest in cooperating with Obama at the start, the Obama West Wing gladly reverted to campaign hack mode. The examples of Chicago-style politics include their delight in public battles with Rush Limbaugh and Fox News and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. (There was also a semi-public campai moreResolved Question: Would this make a good book ?

GRANDVIEW, Wash. -- The need for immigration reform topped the list of concerns that Latino leaders brought Thursday to Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., who held an hour-long “listening” session at a senior center in the Lower Yakima Valley. “These laws are ripping families apart,” said Marisol Avila of Consejo Eastern Washington, a counseling and referral service. “We have families that can’t be families.” Avila and others said adult children are afraid to travel back to Mexico when a parent dies, out of fear they won’t get back into the United States. Spouses detained by immigration authorities because of their illegal status are having to leave their young children with older siblings or relatives. And laws governing the path to citizenship are so slow to churn that people have been waiting more than 20 years for their chance to become legal. Avila was one of 13 Latino community leaders, educators and business representatives invited to meet with Murray at the Grandview Senior Center. While there was no specific agenda, Murray acknowledged at the beginning the importance of Latinos as a constituency. “You are very important to me. This is a chance for you to make sure I know what’s on your minds,” she said. Several speakers, including Jesus Hernandez of Wenatchee and Ricardo Garcia, founder of Radio KDNA in Granger, urged Murray to work on passing the Dream Act, legislation that would allow undocumented young people to become eligible for citizenship in exchange for a mandatory two years in higher education or military service. “A top priority should be passage of the Dream Act. It’s a no-brainer,” said Hernandez, who is a member of the Wenatchee School Board. He said the United States needs to guarantee an educated, domestic workforce instead of relying on imported skilled workers. But the conversation kept returning to immigration as several speakers told stories of families separated and living in fear. “Whenever there is a raid, everything in life takes on underlying sense of fear. The fear is there and it never goes away,” said Carol Folsom-Hill, who runs La Casa Hogar, a nonprofit organization in Yakima that helps more than 400 immigrant women gain their footing in work and home life. Murray, who is expected to seek her fifth Senate term next year, said she heard the message. “It’s difficult, hard and a tough balance,” Murray said of passing immigration reform. “We’ve tried it twice in the Senate in the last three years but you’ve given me good reason to go back and say we have to try again.” Murray said Congress is focused on job creation and health care at the moment. She predicted that the Senate likely would be able to pass a bill before the end of the year but said Republicans are trying to block it with procedural tactics. “They are dragging things out incessantly,” she said. Tomas Ybarra, vice president of instruction and student services at Yakima Valley Community College, asked Murray to fight for more funding for community colleges, saying they are facing a convergence of increased demand and declining resources. “I am fearful this will result in a denial of opportunity for our students,” Ybarra said. While several speakers asked for help to combat gangs, Wapato Police Chief Richard Sanchez said the focus on gangs is misleading. “We have everyone scared that every Hispanic child in the community is a gang member. That’s the media. We’re making it too big a deal,” Sanchez said. Murray, who recently secured $500,000 for an anti-gang initiative in Yakima County, agreed that if all that adults talk about is gangs, kids will think that’s their only option in life. She encouraged all the Latino leaders to be role models. “You need to tell students you have a master’s degree, Marisol,” she said to Avila, who recounted recently helping a relative pick apples. Between the two of them, they earned $22 for one bin and it took two and a half hours. Health-care administrator Vickie Ybarra of the Yakima Farm Workers Clinic, who was in the audience, asked Murray to consider the state’s Basic Health Plan a model for offering health care insurance to the working poor. Hernandez of Wenatchee, who is executive director of Community Choice PHCO, a health-care network, said he is discouraged by Republican health-care proposals that would deny care of children of undocumented immigrants. http://www.tdn.com/articles/2009/11/13/breaking_news/doc4afd92e75c9dc737721221.txt moreResolved Question: What decan is your rising sign?

I mean what could would it do to be successful in a world which is inhabitable? Yet I have been told by some that I am not a true conservative because I believe in protecting the environment. I hope that some day we can find a solution to the issues with the environment without hurting businesses. And I believe it can be done. Furthermore, must I hate Barrack Obama to be a true conservative? I do not support his policies, but that doesn't mean I should hate him does it? I always thought that diversity was what this country stood for. Now when they go to changing the constitution, and promoting socialism we will have a serious problem there. But to hate someone because they view things differently than I do isn't right. Just because someone is a Democrat doesn't mean they cannot have good ideas for our country. I think Evan Byah would make a good President and he is a Democrat. I just think he is intelligent and has what it takes to be a true leader. He is no Ronald Reagan, but he does know what he is doing.I guess I just need to realize that this isn't the 70's or 80's. Sadly, politics has gone haywire!Well, I not here to attack Obama. What good would that do? Its the vote that counts! I can attack people until I'm blue in the face, or I can go and vote when the time comes. I think plan B is the better option.Steve: I agree! I guess I am referring more to things that do not effect our personal freedoms such as the environment. That is unless they impose so many restrictions that it does hurt our personal freedoms. I would be against that. I wouldn't want someone to tell me that I cannot fish or hunt because it harms the environment. As long as I hunt for food and use every part of the animal respectively, then I think its perfectly fine. moreResolved Question: Is this a good essay? Any suggestions?
IF YOU GOING TO EDIT THIS FOR ME, THANK YOU. PLEASE DON'T BE CRUEL!!!! For a country to achieve great success in a particular sector, it is of great importance for said country to invest in education, either in the private sector or the public sector, thereby producing knowledge workers. Canada, including many other countries such as Japan and India have adopted this strategy and utilizing it to their own advantage, have dominated many industries; some of which being Gaming, Robotics, and Pharmaceuticals. It was only a few decades ago, when the gaming industry was first born. It was the birth of Nintendo, Sega, Dreamcaste, etc. Today the gaming industry has escalated into one of the biggest and wealthiest markets in the world. “According to IDC(International Data Coporation), gaming was a 26.6 billion dollar worldwide industry in 2006 and it is only prospering.” This industry is now making more than Hollywood annually, which was never seen possible. Countries like Canada specifically, have looked at this industry and saw it as a big asset, and so invested in it. Canada has taken advantage of this opportunity and now has become the leader in Gaming. How? Canada didn’t just buy Gaming companies from other countries and such, they went for a more logical and more beneficial route in the long run, and they invested in education, producing knowledge workers, who in the long run established their own gaming operations, which have become a global brand, such as Montreal’s UBISOFT. The Canadian government have invested millions into gaming industries and education and in return receive 1000’s of jobs. “The government of Ontario…managed to lure Ubisoft with an investment of C$263 million ($227 million US) over 10 years to help set up the publisher's new digs. For its part, Ubisoft will be spending more than half a billion dollars in the new development studio, which will create over 800 jobs.” Ubisoft, a known global gaming brand, is looking to expand, “unveiling an ambitious six-year, $451-million expansion to its operations. The plan will see Ubisoft's ranks in Quebec swell from 1,600 employees to 3,000 by the end of 2013, with 500 of those new jobs earmarked for a recently created in-house animation studio.” Not only are they expanding operations they are looking to produce movies, "We're going to take the next few years to learn how to make movies," said Ubisoft Montreal communications director Cedric Orvoine. The step taken by Canadian Gaming companies to become a global leader has helped the economy significantly, in the sense that it provides lots of jobs, and brings in lots of revenue and in these rough times Canadian businesses need to step up, and do their part to help end the recession in Canada. “The Canadian gaming industry generates $14 billion in revenues a year and directly supports more than 50,000 jobs in Canada.” Not many Canadians are aware that the gaming industry gives back to the Canadian community, but in a PMG poll it is highlighted that the Canadian gaming industry actually contributes $7 billion to governments and charities and invests about $75 million annually on responsible gaming research and treatment. These polls themselves justify how important these industries are to the Canadian economy and to Canada. We can all honestly say that Canadian gaming industries ultimately give back more than how much we invest into them. Today, we live in a new age, a society where technology is much more advanced than it has ever been. We no longer break are backs doing tasks that require hard labour; instead we have robots that perform tasks efficiently and conveniently. Robotics, what is it? Robotics is the engineering science and technology of robots, and their design, manufacture, application, and structural disposition. It has only been about a century since Henry Ford proposed and used the idea of an assembly line, where robots were used to build cars faster and better. From their, we have come to an age where we can produce robots that can walk, talk, and follow commands. “There are robots serving as receptionists, vacuuming office corridors, spoon-feeding the elderly. They serve tea, greet company guests and chatter away at public technology displays.” We have come here with the help of the Japanese, who have invested billions of dollars in the education of knowledge workers and have funded many robotic projects, “In the past several years, the government has funded a plethora of robotics-related efforts, including some $42 million for the first phase of a humanoid robotics project, and $10 million a year between 2006 and 2010 to develop key robot technologies.” It is evident that Japan is the most dominating country in robotics, which is due their commitment and dedication to this field. Some ask why Japan takes that much of a risk, investing billions in this field, and in order to answer that question you must look at the statistics; According to Hiroko Tabuchi of the associated moreResolved Question: Do we really need a government?
Okay think about this before you just post an answer. Government in my opinion is just a big business that provides services that people want. Thus is the whole reason governments exist is to protect there people, and there profits. Regards less if your republic, democracy, communist, dictatorship, or what ever. In ancient days when people didn't have government, and they lived in little tribes and clans. Do you really think they needed laws? No they had order, it was a tight fit. Basically if this world didn't have governments people would lead themselves, leadership. Absolute freedom. To do what ever no laws. But to establish order leaders within there community would have to deal with the problems at hand. But those leaders tried to make governments, to better themselves, not us. Just because there's no laws doesn't mean people are going to go around killing and stealing, ask your self would you? Would anyone in a place where drugs and can be grow and used for yourself? And whats the point of stealing if everyone works for the same thing, themselves. And course they will always be money and trade. I'm working on creating a character with these traits. How does this woman seem to you? She's an upper middle class woman in her 20s. Elegant Good-looking Demure, but strong Leader and loyal supporter (She is the well-respected assistant to an executive of a large company and the owner of a small side firm.) Merciful Loves to make others happy Creative (Artist and Musician) Treasures the simple things like a walk through the city/park or relaxing on the beach most of all Adores composing on the piano Adores stuffed animals Dresses only in gray, black, white, pink, red, gold, brown, or silver. Her house is all black, white, silver, and gray outside and in. Has 2 white German Shepherds named "Kibo" and "Shiro" Strives to be a person of Integrity Educated in a wide variety of things (Sciences, Mathematics, Literature, Art Critique, Languages... etc.) Up-to-date on the most current events Politically conservative, but open to considering and debating other options Swayed primarily by reason, but greatly influenced by pity (She can't say no to a friend that needs her, so she often stretches herself thin) Knows Etiquette Can throw a variety of parties (From a Superbowl party to a business fundraiser) Can function just as well at an elegant dinner as at a basketball game Doesn't mind getting dirty every once in a while (I mean gardening, hiking, maybe a mud fight, camping, etc.) Likes playing sports Is usually up for trying something new as she loves to expand her knowledge base and experience base. Fit Eats healthy Knows first aid Maintains a clean environment Can cook a wide variety of items Enjoys adventure and also just staying at home watching a movie by a fire Fashionable Frugal, while getting quality items Good with money Tactful Quick to compliment As every character needs a weakness or two, one of hers is competition. If someone challenges her to do something, she can't let it go until she accomplishes it. Her other is men. She wants to get married, but always after she accomplishes her "next big project". Like learning a new language or mastering a new skill, so relationships are a section of life she is clueless about. Her greatest fear is failure and her greatest joy is success. So, thoughts? I've never really written a book before... She is the story's protagonist. If you were to sum up her goal in life in one statement, it is "To Be the Perfect Woman". (Not that she believes perfection exists, for that would be boring and make her unattractive to others which defeats perfection being true perfection in the first place. So, she aims for a "social perfection". She doesn't even believe she could become perfect, but rather with each day she does her best, she gets a little closer. Sort of like the mathematical functions where the curve approaches a number, but never gets there.) Any feedback would be much appreciated!I'm thinking I'll make this like a comic, but not... perhaps in a manga form? moreResolved Question: How do you write a conclusion for a speech?
so i wrote an essay on why napolean was a friend of the revolution and idk how to write the conclusion. please help. besides summarizing the main pts. and help with additional sentences for 4th pgh. thanks. heres the essay: Fellow citizens of France, Napoleon was clearly a friend of the revolution. Napoleon Bonaparte was born in 1769 in Ajaccio, Corsica. In 1779, he entered Brienne military school, and graduated at 16. He overthrew the directory government and became the commander of the French army. He proceeded to cross the Alps and won many victories against Austria and Sardinia. He crowned himself emperor of France in 1804. In 1810, he married Marie Louise and had a son to become the king of Rome. As a military genius, he whipped the army of 10,000 infantry into shape, followed by many victories over Italy, Austria. The mastermind never used a strategy twice. Napoleon was a friend of the revolution by creating better laws, and promoting equality. He also improved the economy, and created positive social change. France was changed for the better because of Napoleon’s rule. To begin with, Napoleon created improved laws and equality with France. He created public schools called lycées and 6,000 scholarship opportunities. Before public schools, not everyone had a chance for education so it was impossible for them to progress out of the peasant class and their poverty. They were not entitled to on of the three natural rights according to Locke: opportunity. Napoleon fired corrupt leaders, and selected officials fairly for the good of the French people. This made the government controlled with fairness and people more satisfied with the country. Leaders were also probably pleased because they knew they had been selected fairly. Additionally, the church lands became controlled by the government. Earlier, the Catholic Church’s overwhelming power took advantage of how the land was used. It was unreasonable for the Pope in Italy to own 10% of the land in France. Jews and Christians also became equal to one another. Religious equality made all people equal under the law and decreased the power of the Catholic Church over other religions. Many laws were created by Napoleon that were a positive addition for the people of France. Secondly, Napoleon greatly improved the economy of France. He established a national bank and fair tax collection. Previously, the third estate made up of 98% of the population was required to pay half of their income to taxes, while the first estate paid 2%, and the second estate paid none to taxes. Napoleon solved this problem and developed equality among the estates. He also gave out state loans to businesses and consolidated debt. Businesses needed loans so they could start their business and then pay back the money, making the economy more successful. By combining the debt, he made it easier to pay off. In addition, he stabilized the currency and balanced the budget. With the currency worth always changing, one wouldn’t know how much they would be paying for bread in the next week. He made it much easier for people by keeping prices stable. The economy was greatly enhanced as a result of Napoleon, which helped the people of France. Third, he created positive social change. Under Napoleon, children could receive equal inheritance from their parents. This prevented inequality between families and outrages or rebellion of French people because of the difference of inheritance. People could also marry or divorce as they wished, outside the Catholic Church. By limiting the excessive power of the church, fairness of marriage was provided to everyone, not just Christians. He stopped the revolts of the peasants as well, and unified the classes so they could work together. Napoleon claimed he would help the peasants, so they stopped rebelling with outbreaks. I DON’T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO SAY I KNOW THIS PGH IS TOO SHORT. moreResolved Question: What do you Think of the Royal Mail's Continuing Strikes?
Do you hope that all the employees and union leaders perpetrating this strike lose all the business and customers that their very jobs reply on, that the Royal Mail ends up losing billions and goes into receivership/administration and then closes down, making redundant all the employees that started it in the first place? I do. They should be grateful they have a good job at all and a full week's income. They should try living the lives of some of the rest of us - then maybe they would have something to complain about.... moreResolved Question: What constitutes a good leader in society when forces clash?
THIS IS A COMPLEX QUESTION SO READ FULL QUESTION BEFORE ANSWERING. IF YOU DON"T LIKE COMPLEX QUESTIONS PLEASE MOVE ON. One thing I notice in society is there is always opposing forces to any situation. Leaders sometimes are puppets of one side or the other. But some leaders are independent thinkers who can make decisions without being bribed or courted. A constant ideal war I notice is capitalism vs socialism, big business vs union workers, personal self worth vs social welfare, elitism vs common people, and various other plus vs minus scenarios. Do good independent leaders come to their own conclusions rather than catering to this side or that side? Do you consider a leader good if they come to a conclusion that satisfies both sides? Why or why not? What can society do end this old one side vs the other side mentality? Can you think of a system that does good for all and not just one or a group? Provide with any type of idea. Thank you for your time and answers.EDIT: So far out of 4 answers Sawyer is the only one who "READ THE FULL QUESTION" the others just skipped. Appreciate the answer Sawyer moreTop What Makes A Good Business Leader Links
