Foxy Bingo TV ad gets the "OK" from ASA

A recent television advertisement from Foxy Bingo was the latest to find itself under the microscope of the Advertising Standards Authority, but after a lengthy investigation the ad was found to be compliant with all advertising restrictions placed on gambling operators, according to an ASA adjudication.

One viewer believed the ad might appeal to children because the main character is a fox, which is why the advertisement was put under the review of Cashcade Ltd. and the ASA.

The ad is centred on the main character, a fox wearing a suit, played by an actor. As the fox walks passed various locations, such as bakeries, a launderette and other shops, women would stop whatever they were doing and follow the fox. After that the fox and the women get on a bus scheduled to terminate at “Having Fun!"

The bus then stops at a house where a party is taking place and a voice over says “c'mon join the party at FoxyBingo.com and get £10 free."

There was also text on the screen throughout including “Terms and conditions apply. more

Change? Coming right up

Contributing to this change is Aspen resident Scott DeGraff, entrepreneur and business owner. His plans for the future of Snowmass will likely raise many eyebrows, as he will be developing an ultra lounge and restaurant in Base Village, called Liquid Sky and Junk. They will be located at the bottom of Fanny Hill, below the Village Express lift, adjacent to Wood Road. Mondays Snowmass Town Council meeting featured a presentation by DeGraff who offered his views on the benefits he feels these establishments will provide for the town.I do things that others dont, and thats why Ive been successful, said DeGraff. This is more innovative, more creative, and I do it with a smile. I like to have fun and I like to see other people having fun.DeGraffs plans definitely call for things that no one has yet done in Snowmass. more

Resolved Question: Do low taxes actually hurt businesses and companies?

In the days when taxes were higher, businesses needed long term success in order for the big money to be made. That placed a high emphasis on the consumer and, by extension, the worker whose wages went right back into circulation through consumer spending. Low taxes encourage owners and investors to take profits in the short term as opposed to making long term investments and commitments. What this leads to, in effect, is that attracting consumers are no longer the name of the game. Rather, attracting investors is. Investors who want and expect the greatest windfall in the shortest amount of time. The company or business who delivers these gets the investment, and thus the people at the top also get their money in short term windfalls as opposed to long term business success. To accomplish this overhead must be constantly and dramatically reduced to achieve maximum profit margins for maximum pay out and attract maximum investment. This typically comes at the expense of jobs(high productivity, one person doing the work of three for the pay of one) and wages (said one person being a young overqualified professional hired in at a much lower rate and lacking the benefits of the older less qualified professional he/she is replacing). Over time this has a double tap effect on wages overall(more workers fewer jobs less value supply vs. demand) and consumer spending. In the end, the long term success ceases to be the business model and rather crashing businesses into the ground for the greatest short term pay out replaces it. Executives who do so are not failures for wrecking companies but are successful giants for making investors the most money in the process, serving as career locusts heading one company after the next in the same predatory looting fashion. When seen in this light, can it actually be said that low taxes HURT businesses and companies and cost jobs in the relentless feeding frenzy they incite? more

Resolved Question: Four ways to get rich.?

1. Marry a wealthy person. 2. Win it in a lottery jackpot. 3. Be born into a wealthy family. 4. Self made millionaire or billionaire. Now who would you want to lead your country? Who is better prepared to manage a business like a country or a city? Do you think that because someone has the financial support of family wealth he/she is qualified? or Do you think that someone who knows what it is like to be poor and has managed to educate himself and achieved the wisdom and business mind to become successful is better qualified? Think about it when you go to the polls to vote. When you go to the polls, do not be influenced by the ads you read or the commercials on tv that have been financed often by supporters of a candidate that will benefit if he is elected. Instead, check his political record and see where and what he has done that is in the best interest of the country and its people.Promises are cheap, action makes it happen. more

Resolved Question: Why does the Obama administration want to punish the banks? Is it Constitutional?

Ex Post Facto: The tax attaches to banks that took TARP funds that were offered by the government to shore up the financial system. This was—and remains—perfectly legal. Yet now banks are being penalized for participating in the government program. Severe: The tax is expected to confiscate hundreds of billions of dollars from the banks, which surely qualifies it as severe. Courts have found that to be the punitive confiscation of property. Punitive Intent: Obama’s remarks introducing the tax proposal sounded very vindictive to almost everyone who has heard it. Joe Biden emailed Coakley supporters in Massachusetts that Scott Brown's opposition to the tax was "a perfect opportunity to show where his loyalties lie -- with working families in Massachusetts or with the bankers on Wall Street who helped lead us into the mess we're in -- guess who he chose?" That's the language of punishment for the financial crisis. No Legit Purpose: There’s no other legitimate purpose to the tax but to punish banks for being bailed out. It will probably be argued that the tax will reduce risk at banks—but if that were anything more than a pretext the tax would be permanent rather than expiring when the TARP is fully repaid. And the government cannot argue that the purpose is the collection of revenue—that would be an absurdly broad rationale that would exempt any confiscation, fine or tax from the ban on Bills of Attainder. Targeted: The tax is obviously targeted at the large banks that took TARP. No one expects the list of banks that qualify for the tax to grow, and Obama’s proposal actually exempts the automaker TARP recipients. The courts have ruled that corporations count as individuals who cannot be targeted in this way, so there’s no getting around it by saying Bank of America isn’t a person. And just because there are dozens of banks that will be taxed doesn’t mean it is too broad to qualify—the Supreme Court once ruled that a law aimed at the entire membership of the communist party counted as a Bill of Attainder. Unavoidable: There’s nothing the banks can do to avoid the tax. No management changes or better risk controls will exempt them. There is literally no new regulation to comply with in order to avoid the penalty. They’re stuck with the taint of TARP. http://www.businessinsider.com/obamas-bank-tax-is-unconstitutional-2010-1?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+businessinsider+(The+Business+Insider)&utm_content=Google+Feedfetcher I thought he was a constitutional professor. Shouldn't he have known this? And why does he want to punish banks for what the government forced them to do? He was even an attorney in lawsuits against banks who tried to refuse to make bad loans to people. more

Resolved Question: Any advice from people who have established a successful school from scratch?

I've dreamt about this just about every day for 6 years--that's about 25% of my life already. I want to be the first founder of a performing arts high school in my country. I actually write down details about what the school would look like, what the school's philosophy would be like, the school's corporate identity and culture, what kind of teachers will be teaching there, what kind of students will it attract, what alumni and ex students will grow to become, what facilities will be available, side enterprises it will give students and teachers the opportunity to participate in, and other businesses (the media, scholarship bodies, tertiary education institutes, theatre and dance companies, record labels, production houses, NGOs, the government...) Now, the past 6 years of my life had also been a tough one... unwise choices concerning my study (mostly due to ignorance and lack of guidance), disappointment, studies fell apart, separated from parents by the continent since my mid teens only to return home in my early twenties totally failing my plans, and nervous breakdown. However, since my decision to restart college at 22, my studies have seen success, and so have my emotional health and stability. I'm now a junior (third year) student of a bachelor's degree in Performing Arts Communication--not at a Conservatoire but at a Public Relations school. It's a new program so we get to be the guinea pigs for raw communication management classes copied from its PR and Mass Communication majors, supplemented by singing, acting, directing, and production classes. However, this campus has not adequately taught us the value of the longsuffering, painstaking mentality that's required of professional performers, nor has it equipped us with the proper theory and techniques. So yes, I can sing a bit, act a bit, direct a bit, and all that, but am by no means qualified to practice performing arts professionally. The reason why I chose this college was because it was close to home, promised to dig deeper into disciplines I learnt from my previous majors (business, advertising, politics & culture, philosophy) from a performing arts perspective, seemed gave me a second chance to try my potential in a field I had to give up in high school due to circumstances, and was the perfect opportunity to heal myself from the nervous breakdown by proving that I can study something for four years successfully. But obviously my second and third expectations from the list above has been somewhat disappointed. I didn't study Education per se, because being the teacher is not my goal. However, now that this dream is maturing, I'm more open to the possibility of going into it. But with so many specialisations in the Education field, which one should I take? My goal is to raise the capital, design the curriculum, define the corporate identity and culture, devise the business plan, and train qualified performing arts (and other) teachers to educate adolescents in our values. That's why I studied all the other things before (although they were arguably ill-advised choices that didn't lead me any closer to this dream). And of course, once I graduate from here, I plan to practice performing arts (singing and acting) by joining a good quality theatre company (truly professional ones don't exist in my country as none have been successful in raising profits on their own, so that means I'll still need a day job in addition to this). I currently work translating mining feasibility studies into English--which I like, do well in, and earn good money from--but that's because I have bills to pay now... not that I intend to spend all my life making this into my career. Alright, so that's my situation. Any advice from people who have been involved in the founding and running of a successful school? If I should study again after getting my bachelor's degree in "Performing Arts Communication", what should I study, and where? What jobs should I look into, which I might qualify for and will be useful in preparing me to eventually action the establishment of the school? What kind of friends should I have around me, and what kind of mentors should I seek? (I live in the industrialised capital of a developing Southeast Asian country. In the past I have aimed at TV broadcasting and copywriting for brand development/advertising as fields to start working in.) Thank you! more

Voting Question: Does my letter of motivation looks strong enough or does it need any changes?

I apply for grad school and have to wrire motivation letter. Can anyone look through it and see if there any grammar mistakes or if the structure is unclear? Director of the Program xx KTH December 18, 2009 Dear Sir or Madam: I have been at my last year of school at American University in Bulgaria, with a major of Business Administration. During my studies majority of the courses were focused on the main challenges and concerns related to the successful global functioning of organizations, critical skills needed to properly start and manage ventures and analytical tools and models used in problem solving. My undergraduate education at American University in Bulgaria has not only given me a certain set of valuable skills but has also helped me to understand my academic strengths and weaknesses and my fields of interest. While taking a course of Marketing I received a deep insight into creating, developing and assessing projects. Besides studying the theory, I had to create a product which would be innovative and successful on global market, evaluating all the advantages of disadvantages in terms of cultural aspects, geographical location, customer demand in particular region and many other crucial factors which help to determine the successful realization of the product. Operational Supply Management was the other useful courses where I acquired the necessary skills to start and manage projects following the key management concept of planning, organizing , leading and controlling. My study abroad experience at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky has given me additional knowledge in my field and has made my communication skills more effective. Taking such courses as Management Science and Management helped me to understand how important it is for the company to be more innovative and entrepreneurial. I acquired necessary skills of how these invention can properly function, how they can be managed and how they can be realized within specific organization. In addition to that, frequent work in groups for creating a project have built good team work understanding and involvement I believe that possession of such critical skills an effective communication, creativity and collaboration can qualify me as a candidate to your program. I am someone who is able to learn quickly and adapt to new environments and perform under pressure. I love to be challenged, to explore new ideas, I am always eager to learn and engage in several activities, which helps me to manage my time more efficiently and be more productive. Furthermore, studying in American University in Bulgaria gave me sufficient amount of quantitative knowledge and assisted in developing my analytical thinking skills needed to properly analyze and assess innovative projects. After completing the Master`s Programme my goal is to start my career in one of the innovative companies, where I will be able to utilize my practical and theoretical knowledge to attain the prosperity of organization. With education in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management, I will gain a relevant knowledge of innovation and entrepreneurship combined with strong real world experience that will help me to build my further development as innovation leader and provide with a basis for the start-up of my own business venture . Thank you most sincerely for your time and consideration. I look forward to your positive response. Respectfully yours, xx more

Resolved Question: Isn't it sad that we don't have any qualified Business Majors in America?

Our government has limited the pay for the officials who ruined our banking industry and have taken large bonuses. They are to be limited to $500,000 per year instead of the millions they are worth. The main reason is that only they are qualified, no one is coming through the ranks to lead our top businesses any more; they were the last, and best qualified so they want more money and larger bonuses. Where can we obtain and recruit qualified business men to honestly and ethically lead our banking industry for a $500.000 salary.? Why aren't the ones who are responsible for our banking failures in jail? Don't star this if you don''t mean it more

Resolved Question: Sarah Palin supporters , why do you think she is qualified to be President?

Here are some of the final questions she was asked by Katie Couric that the right claim was a liberal biased attack remember you are the running mate of John Mcain supposed to be showing contrast between him and Barrack Obama. This was a soft ball interview I have taken nothing out of context, this is the exchange . Again this isn't John Q Public answering this was supposed to be the best Republican to take over the Presidency should something happen to Mcain. For all you Sarah supporters take your partisan hat off and tell me how do you see this as competence Couric: You've said, quote, "John McCain will reform the way Wall Street does business." Other than supporting stricter regulations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago, can you give us any more example of his leading the charge for more oversight? Palin: I think that the example that you just cited, with his warnings two years ago about Fannie and Freddie - that, that's paramount. That's more than a heck of a lot of other senators and representatives did for us. Couric: But he's been in Congress for 26 years. He's been chairman of the powerful Commerce Committee. And he has almost always sided with less regulation, not more. Palin: He's also known as the maverick though, taking shots from his own party, and certainly taking shots from the other party. Trying to get people to understand what he's been talking about - the need to reform government. Couric: But can you give me any other concrete examples? Because I know you've said Barack Obama is a lot of talk and no action. Can you give me any other examples in his 26 years of John McCain truly taking a stand on this? Palin: I can give you examples of things that John McCain has done, that has shown his foresight, his pragmatism, and his leadership abilities. And that is what America needs today. Couric: I'm just going to ask you one more time - not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation. Palin: I'll try to find you some and I'll bring them to you. more

There is a policy in the bill that makes it mandatory to buy some kind of health insurance. Those who are too poor to afford insurance will be provided free health insurance through subsidies. Those who don't want to buy insurance out of the principal that their health is their business.............will be subject to criminal punishment.....which will begin with fines......and may lead up to prison on the grounds of tax evasion." more

Resolved Question: How's "president" 0bama's (PBUH) Pay Czar working for you?

Fomenting Financial Disasters When Uncle Sam Sets Wages and Prices, Expect Trouble Kenneth R. Feinberg, the Obama administration's "pay czar," has no clue about how to run a business. And why would he? His professional background is not in business, but as a liberal trial lawyer. His career includes such relevant experience as placing valuations on the Kennedy assassination's Zapruder film and on the lives of those killed in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Nothing in his background seems to make him qualified to determine how much firms should compensate executives. But even an extensive business background wouldn't mean that he should set corporate salaries. He has no economic incentive to pick the right salaries. Perhaps he pays a price if the political consequences go south, but not if he simply damages the companies that have fallen under his thumb. Corporations such as Bank of America Corp., who took government bailouts, find that their 25 best-paid executives are now going to be paid about a tenth of what their contracts promised and bonuses and retirement contributions will fall to about half. Incredibly, the Obama administration maintains that the pay czar made these decisions entirely on his own. Legally, the pay czar is limited to determining what executives get paid starting in 2009, but he has found a nifty way around that legal obstacle. For Bank of America's chief executive, Kenneth Lewis, the pay czar simply ordered him to earn a negative salary this year. In other words, Mr. Lewis is paying for the privilege of working 70-hour weeks this year. Not too surprisingly, Mr. Lewis has chosen to leave the company very soon. Proponents claim that cutting salaries will make executives work harder so that they will again be allowed to make more money in the future, government allowing, of course. A more likely outcome is that these executives will leave for greener pastures where the Obama administration does not hold sway. Advocates further argue that since these firms took government bailouts, the government should have the right to determine corporate salaries. But many firms were forced to take bailouts from the federal government, so this makes little moral sense. Banks were brought to the Treasury Department and told that if they didn't agree to take the bailout money, the government would use banking regulations to destroy their companies. The government claimed that it was justified making these threats because if only some banks took the money, those particular banks would be stigmatized. For Bank of America, the government's behavior was quite outrageous. The government asked Bank of America to buy Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. But when Bank of America checked Merrill Lynch's books, they found that firm was actually in much worse shape than the government had originally told Bank of America. And we are not talking small changes, but billions and billions more in losses than the bank had been told about. When Bank of America's chairman and board wanted to inform shareholders that the deal was bad, Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson Jr. and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke threatened to have the board members fired and replaced with people who would follow their orders. Economists generally believe government regulations caused the financial problems in the first place. But that is ignored while President Obama and his minions demonize the financial sector and push for more regulations and a new regulatory agency. Government micromanagement won't lead to economic growth or healthy businesses. When government starts setting wages and prices, it only leads to more economic problems. Resolved Question: Do you plan to get either of these costumes for Halloween?

ALIPAC: Illegal Alien Costumes Are Cool For Halloween ... Illegal Alien Costumes Are Cool for Halloween! Americans for Legal Immigration PAC's President William Gheen is offering to conduct interviews next week, while wearing the controversial illegal alien costume recently banned by Target at the request of a few pro-illegal immigrant groups. "The illegal alien supporting groups in America are attacking free speech once again," said Gheen. "These are the same types of people that are trying to ban Lou Dobbs and Glenn Beck from television. They want to control what people can see, hear, say, or even wear for Halloween in pursuit of their open borders agenda." Gheen has ordered his costume through Amazon.com and is encouraging others to do the same to help protect the businesses that created and still distribute the costume. Businesses that value the freedoms and protections of American citizens should be rewarded, while businesses like Target that quickly cave to radical pro-illegal alien political groups should be rebuked. Gheen hopes this controversy will backfire on the illegal immigrant supporters, and that demand for the illegal alien costumes will rise and quickly lead to sold out inventories. The illegal alien costumes now qualify as collector items. CNN is reporting Gheen's initial comments in reaction to this new controversy. "The only people getting upset are the hyper-sensitive, over-politically correct, pro-amnesty, illegal alien-supporting nuts," said Gheen. "You can't attack people's freedom in this country." Upon further reflection, Gheen had this to offer. "Why is it that a few illegal alien supporters can get a global corporation like Target to remove all illegal alien costumes from their stores with a few calls but the over two hundred million Americans constituting the over 80% of us who want illegal aliens out of America make millions of calls to Congress and the President to no avail? " asked Gheen. "If someone really wanted to dress up as an illegal alien, they should dress up like President Obama's illegal alien Aunt Zeituni Onyango in Boston and hold a welfare check instead of a fake green card!" The illegal alien costumes causing the furor are for sale online but have been removed from Target's online store. The costumes are of a space alien in an orange prisoner's jump suit holding a fake green card with the caption "illegal alien" across the chest area. Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, ALIPAC, is one of America's largest grass roots organizations fighting for secure borders and the enforcement of our existing immigration laws. Voting Question: Was I wrong to tell off my husband's 18 yr old nephew via Facebook?

Well, it all seemed to have started a few weeks back. My husbands nephew, which I guess is mine too, is training as an electrician he's qualified to do house jobs but still working on commercial qualification. Anywho I asked him a few weeks back would he put up a light fixture for me. He got all smarmy and sarcastic and told me to wait a second til he was done laughing, then he laughed. I don't mind sarcastic humor, but he never did answer the question, he just left out the door which I found pretty rude... and annoying. After complaining about it for a few days privatly I calmed down. Well lo and behold we get a call at 8:30 one night asking if he could borrow the satnav cause he had a new job he wanted to get to, when he got to the house he didn't knock, just tried walking up into my house like he owned the place, thank God for locked doors. I have told him repeatedly not to come bursting into my house, we have a terrace for one and you walk straight into the living room, not to mention I don't like wearing tops. He had only called about 5 minutes prior and then comes trying to hurry us up because his tea was on. Sounds like a personal problem to me, maybe he should have rang earlier? Unfortunatly, I couldn't use this against him as our elecs. went out due to having too many items plugged in to one socket. He fixed that, was paid and bought £3 worth of electrical tape that he didn't use on our job anyway. I figuered that's fair enough considering, however the way he went about this whole thing was so holier than thou. He didn't ask for the tape he said "buy me this," like a child. He never seems to have a decent word to say about my husband for whatever reason (which he gets from his mother). However never has a problem using him to do favour and things (like his mother). All this leads up to the most recent incident when he rang at 8am on Saturday morning, after a long night, wanting a lift back home. Mind you he lives way on the other side of town and just expects us to jump. Due to our recent run-ins and knowing our relationship was on thin ice I agreed to it so when the inevitable came I'd have some examples of his ungrateful nature. A bit manipulative? Anyway about 5 days later I asked him via FB, on his wall, not in private when he was coming to do the light fixture. I wasn't rude, I didn't swear I simply asked a question. When we agreed to drop him off he knew the condition of this was the light fixture so it's no big surprise. He wrote me back in caps :"PISS OFF, WHEN EVERYONE ELSE IS HASSLING ME I'LL DO IT IN MY OWN TIME" That was the final straw and I told him exactly the way he's been behaving in not so nice words and that I wasn't going to be spoken to like that from some spoiled shit. Now I feel kinda bad for what I've done. Granted it's been a long time coming, he really is a spoiled boy with an amazing amount of arrogance, but he is only 18, but I'm 22 though and I never acted like that. The thing is, I think I've just put up with so much bulls*** from that side as far as them judging our life I'm at breaking point. I'm dealing with the stress of trying to conceive, without anyone to confide in (Unfortunatly, this is our decision. I'd love to tell them we were trying for a baby but the number of noses that would then be in our business just IS NOT worth it.), my tendons have seized up in my legs and I'm stuck in bed most of the day and I am about to choke a b****. I can't help but wonder though, if this passionate outburst really just should have been kept to myself as I'm sure it's one of those things where too many people will get involved and it's just a mess. I just couldn't live with myself though if I let this level of disrespect continue, without saying anything. I feel though if he spoke to me like that again, the first outburst will seem like a birthday invitation and then it's going to really start cutting deep. Should I apologise and make it go away or stand my ground?Thanky ou all for your imput, I appreciate it. Precious Gem, Id have no problem telling him this to his face, in fact had this taken place in person what I said on FB would have seemed like a birthday invitation in comparisson. He didn't say this to my husband though, he said it to me, but i understand what you mean. Either way, he hasn't replied yet and I think he's ignoring me, which makes two of us. It seems to have all turned out well :D! more

Resolved Question: Would this be the right way to eventually be successful?

Currently I'm enrolled at a community college and probably will be there for another year until I transfer to a university. My goal first and foremost is to get an MBA in economics and possibly a bachelors in risk management. Once I've gotten some experience and built some capital up I would like to purchase an existing insurance agency and move on from there. My goal would be to invest the insurance funds that aren't spent and build more capital up.. eventually leading to the purchase of more agencies or other businesses. I know this is easier said than done but fortunately I have a close family friend that is more than qualified to be a guide. Has anyone ever done this or have any advice on what paths I should take? more

Resolved Question: Where can I find a personal loan that is interest only for 1 or 2 years with a repayment schedule after that?

Most personal loans begin with repayment of principal on the very first payment date, 30 days after closing. But as a corporate lender having structured many different kinds of loans for big companies, I know they can be tailor-made, based on the situation and the need. Ideally, I'm looking for a "reducing revolving credit" that starts with an open revolving loan for some period of time allowing the borrower to draw down, repay, and reborrow, but then either begins to reduce in total credit availability after some period, or converts to a term loan with principal installments thereafter, due all at once (a bullet payment) or over time according to a pre-established schedule. This may be too sophisticated for the average consumer or retail bank, but I believe there are lenders out there who may provide a more creative structure. And I am not talking about a "sub prime loan" that would lend too much money based on ability to repay, or with escalation clauses that kick in and lead to outrageous and ruinous rates. This is a PERSONAL loan with the need upfront to put the capital into an earning asset and to use that asset to repay the loan, once it is fully operational and throwing off cash as planned. Do you know of a source where such financing might be found at the consumer or retail level? And this would not qualify as a Small Business Administration loan so please don't suggest that angle. more

Resolved Question: My entire life is stuck in a rut - what should I do?

Help - I've been told I have "everything going for me" - I've been told I'm very good-looking, smart, talented, great personality, etc. . . But here I am, 25 years old; I've been working in a dead-end job for the past five months; I am grossly over-qualified for it (I have two B.A.s, both summa cum laude), making the yearly salary of a high school dropout, <$20,000/year, thanks recession. My college friends have all moved on, so I have no social network; nobody calls me anymore, when I go out at night, I'm almost always alone. 98% of my colleagues are over 35/married with children, so work provides no social opportunities. I've tried volunteering; at the last event I attended, I was the lone male among 17 retired women. Again: dead-end. And bars, bars, seriously, does anything worthwhile really ever begin in a damn bar? I try online dating: in the past two months, I've had my heart nearly smashed by a girl with borderline personality disorder, and as for the most recent girl? I took her out for an expensive dinner and dessert a couple nights ago; didn't get a single "thank you," and discovered at the end of the date that she didn't remember my name. <:|. I'm at a loss. I'm just about to lose my mind. I mean, right now, I'm sitting in a musty office, with horrible flourescent lighting, and after 7 years of college, I order business cards, and make car reservations for people. I have no friends to look forward to seeing after work, no girl to get excited about. I feel like I should have the world by the balls: I work hard, take great care of myself, I care about helping people, and my intentions are good. Sometimes I feel like some unseen cosmic force is just throwing punches at me for no reason except malice. I feel isolated, beaten down, and taunted, like some animal trapped in a dark box, unable to see, much less confront, its assailants. I'm not a naturally depressive/depressed guy, but for God's sake, I feel like I've got crap coming at me from every angle. I feel like a living ghost, like somebody who is here, but not really. It's killing me, probably in every sense of the word. What should I do? I need opportunities to lead, to take initiative, to learn, and to meet people my own damn age, and become a bona fide fully formed "me." What should I do? more

Voting Question: Should I feel guilty about a bad fake Google business review I wrote out of frustration?

My job is to cold call homes and businesses to qualify leads and drum up interest in solar energy systems, an admittedly terrible way to promote an extremely useful and legitimate product. I'm used to getting blown off by people, happens all the time, but for some reason one garden store manager or owner really pissed me off the way he acted on the phone. Still fuming about it, I wrote a review on Google saying that their customer service sucks and that no one should ever go there, and it's the only review on Google about this place. Anyone unfamiliar with the place would now be influenced by my fake review. On one hand, I feel guilty about doing this since the guy didn't actually do anything wrong, he was probably busy running his business and feeding his family. On the other hand, he was a complete prick with no professional courtesy toward a fellow businessman simply trying to forward him some information about a product that could help his company immensely. Am I just overthinking this or did I do something legitimately wrong? more

Resolved Question: In an Homeowners Association, must a motion always be seconded in order for it to be discussed or voted on?

This is a Homeowner's Association (HOA) -- a legal entity overseeing a condominium organization. It is not a social or community service club. It is most similar to a formal corporation. But there has been a perception by some in this group who are active in numerous other social clubs around town that Robert's Rules of Order is the definitive guideline for proceeding with group meetings. But Robert's Rules of Order has not been adopted in the official Bylaws or the CC&Rs of the HOA. There are certain rules of order contained in the Bylaws (for example, definitions of a quorum, how Officers are elected, the order of the standard meeting agenda, etc.), but those rules are only basic and do not cover every point of order that may come up when meetings are proceeding in an attempt to reach new group decisions. For example, it has been argued that in order for any motion to qualify for a vote, it must be seconded. That would be something in Robert's Rules of Order. But this is such a small HOA with only 10 members, one could have a quorum with only 4 members present collectively representing over 51% of the total square footage inside the HOA properties. Does it make sense in a group of 4 to require that a motion be seconded before it can be voted on or passed? In truth, this idea that a motion has to be seconded was merely a ploy for the President to shoot down several good ideas not her own but presented by members present by proxy at a meeting but not in person, for example, the motion that votes can be taken by private ballot versus a show of hands if one member requests a vote by ballot. The President is an extremely aggressive individual who exercises control over the organization via lies, threats, and coercion, so by not allowing votes to be taken by private ballot, she can identify who may oppose her and then beat them down verbally in a meeting or behind their back through nasty measures like putting a lien on their home and abuse of the powers of her office. Indeed, this is not a person who should be President but finding someone to replace her in an HOA of mostly retired senior citizens is difficult, leading to the need to find management from outside the HOA which to date, has been prohibitively expensive. In that Roberts Rules of Order is not a book of laws but rather a set of recommended guidelines only, I would say that a motion CAN be proposed and voted on without a second in this particular HOA, given that this is such a small group that less restrictive guidelines do make sense in some situations. In analyzing Robert's original reason for requiring a second to a motion, one understands that this is in part to prevent the General Assembly or Floor from being overwhelmed with too many or frivolous motions that would take too much time to debate and consider. But in a group of only 4 to 10 members present, it is unlikely that such a meeting would be overwhelmed with so many frivolous motions that it would create a detriment to getting through a meeting . And the idea of requiring a second to every motion made in such a small group may also prevent good ideas from gaining private support via confidential ballot which may be critical for breaking the iron grip that this unscrupulous President has over the HOA through angry glares and private threats. In past meetings in her home, members who opposed this President have actually been charged with trespassing and driven away by the local police in that home ownership trumps any legal right to attend a business meeting in someone's home. Ergo, this President with control over meeting venue has made sure that all meetings are held in her home so she can call on the Police at will whenever she is opposed on a business point and dramatically escalates the conflict or tries to railroad her agenda despite protests from the floor. Yes, it is THAT BAD! And for those who would call many HOAs nothing more than "Lawn Nazi's", you got that right with this goup! The entire question of whether this President should be allowed to hold this office is another matter and is beyond the very limited scope of this question. Therefore, I am not soliciting comments on that score here at this time. I am soliciting support and legal or logical reasoning for the idea that a motion does NOT have to be seconded as a precursor to that motion being discussed and voted on in a small HOA that has not officially adopted Roberts Rules of Order in it's Bylaws or CC&Rs. What say ye? more

Resolved Question: Do you think the American Education System is bringing down America?

I have read a lot about this, and it seems to have everyone pointing fingers at low-paid teachers, corrupt administrators and lazy parents. I suppose what I find shocking is that we spend the most of any industrialized country, yet we are only leading the third world countries with our output. Then when I hear companies like Microsoft trying to open up H1-B Visas to get more qualified and cheaper labor abroad, and watching our Auto Industry pretty much falling apart to at least the level of the reputation of how American cars are actually viewed around the world--too much for not enough car that will break down sooner than later. A business model that is the recipt for going out of business. Yet we embrace these models, even with our schools. You can really see the painting on the wall, especially with all the debt America is taking on, the disparity of income levels, job loss and all the while maintaining the overall attitude that we as a nation should expect more, but put in less. Kind of like how the GM CEO helps drive the company in the ground and get a $20 million bonus to do it. But at center is our education system. The teachers defend it, yet they appear to be overpaid for what they are producing, or perhaps the current system should be scrapped? Then I read the latest from CNN, which merely echos my concerns:http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/03/30/cafferty.schools/index.html more

Resolved Question: Will Obama lead America into a "mild" depression?

Downturn sinking into depression? Economy » With alarming economic contraction, defining current slump is tricky. Combined News Services Updated: 03/03/2009 06:40:01 PM MST Click photo to enlargeIn his prime-time address to Congress last week,... (Ron Edmonds / The Associated Press)«123»Washington » There's a reason it's called the Great Depression. The epic hard times of the 1930s became the best-known depression in American history, but it doesn't necessarily take that kind of nightmarish suffering to trigger the D-word today. In fact, some economists worry that the economy could be sinking into a milder depression, the kind spelled with a lowercase "d." This isn't the 1930s of bread lines, rampant unemployment, a wipeout in the stock market. But, unlike recessions, which are easy to define, there are no firm rules for what makes a depression. Everyone at least seems to agree there hasn't been one since the dark days of Hoover and FDR. That said, with each new hard-times headline, most recently an alarming economic contraction of 6.2 percent in the fourth quarter, it seems that something more drastic than a recession could be on its way. "It's not going to be acknowledged until years go by. Because you have to see it behind you," said Peter Morici, a business professor at the University of Maryland. No one disputes that today's economic downturn qualifies as a recession. Recessions have two handy definitions, both in effect now -- two straight quarters of economic contraction, or when the National Bureau of Economic Research makes the call. Declaring a depression is much trickier. By one definition, it's a downturn of three years or more with a 10 percent drop in economic output and unemployment above 10 percent. The current recession doesn't qualify -- 15 months old and 7.6 percent unemployment. Another definition says a depression is a sustained recession during which the populace has to dispose of tangible assets to pay for everyday living. For some families, that's happening now. Morici defines a depression is a recession that "does not self-correct" because of fundamental structural problems in the economy, such as broken banks or a huge trade deficit. The Great Depression retains the heavyweight crown. Unemployment peaked at more than 25 percent. From 1929 to 1933, the economy shrank 27 percent. The stock market lost 90 percent of its value from boom to bust. And although the 2008 stock market was the worst since 1931, the Dow Jones industrials would have to fall about 5,000 more points to approach what happened in the Great Depression. Few economists expect this downturn will be the sequel, but nobody can say when or whether the downturn may deepen from a recession. In his prime-time address to Congress last week, President Barack Obama acknowledged "difficult and trying times" but sought to rally the nation with an upbeat vow that "we will rebuild, we will recover." Despite the tempered optimism, consumer confidence has fallen off the table, stocks are at 12-year lows, layoffs come by the tens of thousands and credit remains tight. Policymakers and economists note there are safeguards in place that weren't there in the 1930s -- deposit insurance, unemployment insurance and an ability by the government to hurl trillions of dollars at the problem, even if it means printing money. Most postwar U.S. recessions have come after the Fed has increased interest rates to cool rapid growth and inflation. Later, the Fed lowers rates and helps restart the economy, with the housing and auto sectors leading the way. This time, as Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd, D-Conn., said, "Our housing and auto sectors are leading us into it." What's more, the central bank has already lowered the short-term rates it controls to zero, eliminating that leverage, and there are no guarantees the massive economic stimulus package and series of bank bailouts will stave off a nightmare recession, or worse. more

Resolved Question: Where will taxes come from since the taxpayers are going "Galt" to rebel agt. paying for O's big government?

Barack Obama is pouring billions more down those sinkholes. It isn't just the camel's back that's broken. His neck and four legs have all snapped, too. Enough. While they take to the streets politically, untold numbers of America's wealth producers are going on strike financially. Dr. Helen Smith, a Tennessee forensic psychologist and political blogger, dubbed the phenomenon "Going Galt" last fall. It's a reference to the famed Ayn Rand novel "Atlas Shrugged," in which protagonist John Galt leads the entrepreneurial class to cease productive activities in order to starve the government of revenue. (Not coincidentally, Rand's novel sales are up and John Galt references punctuated many of the Tea Party demonstrations.) Dr. Smith was inundated with stories like these: "I have frozen hiring in my firm. No investments will be made in taxable accounts — only 401k/IRAs. I am buying silver and gold instead of CDs or stocks with non-qualified money and savings. I have stopped taking new clients, thus freezing my income. I barter more and more. Spend less. I stopped leveraging assets (don't borrow)." "I have cut WAY back — I'm no longer buying retail, driving out of a 10-mile radius, spending money on eating out or putting my money in a savings account. I am using the money to pay off all of our debt. It has made our family closer, more appreciative." Another blogger wrote: "Last year my family paid nearly $1,000 a month in federal taxes, and we are not by any stretch of the imagination rich. I'm going to make it my business to cut that amount in half, using every legal means possible and reducing my income so there is less to tax." Enough. Those business owners are not alone. This week, ABC News spotlighted upper-income earners going Galt in response to Obama's proposed tax hikes on families with incomes of $250,000 or more. A Lafayette, La., attorney told the reporter she was cutting back on her business to avoid the tax threshold: "Why kill yourself working if you're going to give it all away to people who aren't working as hard?" Tax hikes have consequences. Incentives matter. Only self-deluded wealth redistributors living in la-la land believe otherwise. Another business owner, Dr. Sharon Poczatek, explained: "The motivation for a lot of people like me — dentists, entrepreneurs, lawyers — is that the more you work the more money you make," said Poczatek. "But if I'm going to be working just to give it back to the government — it's de-motivating and demoralizing." The perpetual Borrow-Spend-Panic-Repeat machine in Washington depends on the capitulation of the wealth producers. There's only one monkey wrench that can stop the redistributionist thieves' engine. It's engraved with the word: Enough. M. Malkinclaudiac: that song is very true...thank you for reminding me of it...jimwote: the working lower/middle class will be taxed higher right away, (although they don't believe it yet) ...that's the only way O can get more money to fund his "new" Americaobamabot: still trying to over O's backside... but facts are what they are... these aren't opinions...pepper-you think this is treason??? how about enslaving all of us for the next hundred years.. how about hiring traitors for the cabinet... Voting Question: Value added certifications for job seeker?

Like many I am currently looking for a new job/career. I graduated over a year ago and have a liberal arts degree. I have leadership experience in retail dealing with numerous facets including sales, loss prevention, human resources, hiring and recruitment. I have been awarded several times for the dedication and results of my work. Unfortunately I am not getting any responses back-even for the jobs that I qualify for. I have also expanded my job replies to things outside of retail, including entry level education, healthcare, and other sales. I have resumes tailored to the jobs I am applying for and had them reviewed by others for critique. I have tried just about all the job boards, career fairs, networking sites (like linkedin) but still nothing. I wanted to know if anyone was aware of any certifications that would be of value to obtain to either help increase my chances or lead me in the direction of a career path. I have a lot of time on my hands right now. I am not looking for another degree program. Perhaps something where training is provided in a seminar and leads to some kind of certification. I feel like I have more experience than many others my age coming out of college. I have a pretty diverse degree background and real world experience in a business setting. more

Resolved Question: Does anyone else notice this?

This is mainly a question directed at women, but if guys have noticed it too then i'd like to hear your responses. Why is it that a woman never seems to be taken entirely seriously when trying to talk logically with someone? I know that's not very clear but let me give you an example. I had an internet problem so I rang up a company technician and explained the problem. I have never once spoken on the phone with a female technician, but that's beside the point. I spend half a hour per call speaking to someone who obviously thinks I have the mentality and technical knowledge of a five year old. Finally i'm told to try something then call back. Nothing happens, this time I get my friend to call while i'm trying to fix the problem. She goes through almost the same thing, I argued back with the suggestion because I knew it wouldn't work. The response was that he was the qualified technician and if I wasn't going to take his advice then there was nothing else he could do. After it failed I was sent through however many departments before I was given a new suggestion. When this also failed I got my cousin to ring, he spoke with them for five minutes and was instantly given a solution that worked and he wasn't forced to go through the tedious process of giving a million account details. Maybe he was just lucky but I don't think that's very fair. It happens in person as well, if you go into a store with a query or you're trying to set up a contract you get lead about and not taken seriously at all. If you go in with a guy to support you then it's all yes Sir, yes Madam. I'm a logical person and I like to think that I can keep my calm in most any situation, but I know I have to be extremely firm and straight with businesses if I want them to listen. Often I will take a male friend or relative with me if it's a very serious matter. Have other people noticed this or is it just me? If you have then how do you avoid this? If you haven't, then how do you avoid this? xD more

Resolved Question: Could I still be useful?

I'm in college for my second choice of a major: recreation and tourism. I love the outdoors and work for the park service. It's a pretty good fit. I'm not like a tour guide; it's like developing recreation programs. Basically it's an outdoor version of business administration. I know I should have picked the major I wanted but let others talk me out of it. Between that and not being sure if I wanted to deal with this for 40+ years. Kind of a strange ambition for a child, but I always wanted to be a mortician. Even though I'm trying for government jobs which are generally more stable than private recreation companies; the funeral industry is always a safer bet because it's a career that will always be needed no matter what happens to the economy. After I decided to go to a four year university for rec. and tourism I always kept the option of going back to mortuary science college if I wanted a switch in careers. It's just now as I'm entering the final few semesters of my degree I'm looking back and wondering if I made a mistake by choosing this field instead. Do you think I could make the transition if I wanted to try? Recreation and tourism is strictly dealing with people: there's no way in avoiding that. It's pretty closely related to a business career since it involves legal and financial aspects and it is operating and marketing a business. If I do switch careers; I will have a four year bachelor's degree from one of the leading universities in the region. Even though it'll be past history by then; but I've worked for a cemetery from the time I was 16 to the time I graduate college. It's not a funeral home; but at least I'm familiar with the funeral process and have been around it quite a bit. I know I'd have to have the proper training and meet the standards to be qualified as a mortician. But do you think with my career past that I could switch over successfully to the funeral industry? Thank you. more

Resolved Question: What is a good career plan if i like math, stocks and i have a investigative characteristics?

Hi, i need advice on what pathway I should choose to become successful. i like math, finance(stocks), and i very much enjoy asking questions and i am detail oriented. I do not like Accounting but i have heard that people with CA's can work in various fields because they understand business the most and are qualified for other jobs, not relating to accounting field. So i am willing to torture myself for that small time before i obtain my CA. my choices were : to become a CA then go and obtain a CFA or to go Actuary science pathway. then maybe CFA Or to get a CFA or a CA or Actuary individually, without obtaining further education. university choices are not my concern at this time but my main concern is the fastest pathway, which will lead me to a successful career in Dubai with something i like and matches my interests.(math, stocks, analysis and asking questions). I was also considering Forensic accounting. Thank you for your time :) more

Resolved Question: Haka baba monalloooe?

Daren Bolton Parent Gernation My mom personal goal during 1980’s was get though college to become a doctor. She originated not from America but from Jamaica. She traveled from her native country to succeed in the American dream. Her goals that she has now accomplished could not have been obtained without America. Her most profound goal was obtaining her green card. My mom’s perception of America accomplishment of landing on the moon was a waste of money. She feels that we didn’t accomplish anything but a loss of money for the tax payers of America. Her thoughts on the Vietnam war was that America should have stayed their and won the war. She deeply stressed how many American veterans had to die in vein of confronting the new evil (Communism). My mom is fairly a democrat between this time frame and would have voted for Kennedy if she was a citizen and as of age. Her opinion of Kennedy was that he was a young man and was very appealing to her and her comrades. She has spoke in good confidence and spoke the truth. She agreed with many Kennedy stand points on many issues such as helping the misunfortunate. Aslene's view of the administration was that it knew what was that they were aiming for and how to achieve it. Alsene palmer would have voted for Kennedy vice president if she has been given the chance. She felt that Lyndon Johnson was a good man but very misunderstood. She spoke beautifully about how Lyndon extended programs and gave equal opportunities for many Americans. Her view of the administration was that it was lacking political backness and the public. She felt that the administration seemed very tough in the outside but was crippling from the inside leading to Lyndon Johnson resignation. My mom felt that President carter was very under qualified to become president and has shown that through his presidency. Under the carter administration America has experienced a hike in inflation. She has voted for carter but should have vote for the republican president (Gerald Ford). She felt that his administration was a disaster and has shown thought landslide victory by Ronald Reagan. MY mom felt that Kennedy was the best person for her to fulfill her American dream. Aslene fell that Carter was the worst because of his foreign policy and economic policies. Decade Defining Event During the 1960’s the death of Martin Luther king was the most defining event in the 19060’s and her lifetime. The death of martin Luther had a deep impact in the African American population. It has once again people to truly thank what martin Luther king gave for us as a people and to still fight racism thought America. Her most defining event was the collapse of South Vietnam. That symbolized to her and many fellow Americans that communism was still growing. It made her realize the struggles and genocides that are taking place thought this earth. Technology Technology has changed rapidly during her lifetime. She was amazed by the color TV and how it has projected colors. The fastly growing technology. NOT DONE My grand mom goal in this time frame was still trying to achieve the American dream. Her dream was to still trying to succeed through society and being able the support her self and her family. She has talk about the protection of Vietnam. She felt that America had no business sticking its head in to a foreign country. She also deeply stressed out that Vietnam War was useless and destroyed political relationship between the countries. In the election Nixon vs. Kennedy my grandma has voted for Nixon during living in her home state West Virginia. My Grand mom felt that Kennedy has done a good job during his presidency. She named that Kennedy was the first of many president to think about the working class. She felt that the Kennedy administration was that has caused the invasion on Vietnam. In the election of 1972 my grandma has voted against Nixon. Her opinion of him that de was descent president. She didn’t really remember what he has done. In the election between Ford vs. Carter my grandma has voted for Carter. She felt that he would demonstrate his abilities to unite America. She felt that his he was and his administration was failure. My grandma felt that Carter was the worse president for any person during that time to fulfill their American dream. She couldn’t imagine that high oil prices during her time. She remembered when they were only certain day that she was able to fill up her car. more

Resolved Question: Any successful annuity agents?

Hello, I am trying to find a successful annuity agent who could give me some solid marketing advice on how to get in front of qualified clients. I am a licensed insurance agent, and have spent the past two years of my insurance career (not my only source of income) trying to build my insurance business. What I have learned is that selling annuities is really all about marketing. Simply stated, you can know annuities inside and out, but if you cannot get in front of qualified people who are interested in annuities to begin with, you are getting nowhere. I have spent literally thousands of dollars on my own marketing, as well as lead programs that were nothing more than a waste of my money. I really believe in this business, and I need it to work to provide a steady income for my family, but I am at a loss on how to successfully market annuities and actually get in front of qualified prospects on a regular basis. It would really mean a lot to me if someone who has a successful business with annuities would spend a few minutes with me on the phone and offer some realistic marketing advice on how to get in front of qualified prospects as soon as possible. I know that agents who are successful have mastered a system that constantly puts them in front of new prospects. I also know I am reaching for straws here, but it would really mean a lot to me if someone with experience and success could offer me a few minutes of their time to help me get a solid marketing plan in place. If anyone reads this who is successful in this area, and would be willing to help a struggling agent with some words of good advice, please send me an email to: comingsoon222@hotmail.com Thanks in advance to anyone who may take the time to reply. more

Resolved Question: How is this legal? Isnt it bad business practice?

Five Star Sale Inc. 1875B Rohlwing Rd. Rolling Meadows,Illinois,60008 Phone: (800)-642-6147 1-847-253-7766 http://5starsalesinc.com This company hires sales groups to sell door-to-door. Any one can work there, but they especially prefer teens and people in there 20's. This is because they have their "independent contractors" go door to door selling magazines as if they were in a magazine drive for a school or college. They serve a sales pitch to the consumer regarding a contest and $1000 dollars and that contest is valid. There is a contest, the contractors win if they make the most sales. However, they dont mention that they are paid in commission for sales and have sales quotas. They lead the consumer to believe that make no monetary value off the sale..."just points". They are paid in cash...why no paper trail? Even there website says nothing about this compensation. The motive is sell at any rate. There are no soliticing gated communities and sellers are instructed to ignore those postings and sneak in to sell. They call senior citizens - "guppies" because they are easy to sell a bunch of magazines to without supplying details. They also neglect to tell the consumer that the magazines can take up to 6 months to arrive. If the customer decides to cancel, they cannot. The rep will tell them to call a number to cancel but you can only cancel within three days. They claim to have two weeks training with qualified agents but they simply give you two days with the best liar, excuse me- seller, and then send you off to sell on your own. You have to make 7 sales a day to pay for your boarding. If you dont you are in debt. There was one gentleman who hadnt been making a sales quota and they said he couldnt have a room and he told them he would buy a room himself and the managing rep told the hotel not to give him a room! They fly young people out to this job promising them that if they dont like it, they will fly them home. However, when they want to leave, they dont fly them home...they strand them far away from home. Thank god, my niece had a credit card. As for personal practices with young adults, this business is well aware of illegal drugs being used in hotel rooms they are paying for. I dont know how this is a legal profession or method of selling products? Essentially they are lying to the consumers and omitting information, furthermore they are paying cash out under the table...which should be taxed, and stranding young adults far from home. What is your input? more

Resolved Question: Why don't white guys stick together?

***This is for white guys only*** It seems every other group has banded together and helps their own out, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, women, ect. I mean don't you get tired of less qualified blacks being accepted into college or promoted over you just cause of affirmative action? Don't you get tired of the government spending more of your hard earned money on research for womens medical problems than mens medical problems? Don't you get tired of women and minorities trying to make white male business owners who built their businesses from the ground up with their own money and hard work hire more minorities and women instead of other white males? I mean I don't hear white guys whining that business built up by women and minorities aren't hiring them. I'm just sick of all these white guys with white guilt who aren't proud about their race because of what their forefathers did in the past. Well guess what guys get over, you should not be sorry at all, its not like white men were the only ones committing crimes. In fact we were on the receiving end of many crimes as well. Do you know the Mongolians invaded Europe from the east and slaughtered thousands of whites before any white countries ever attacked an Asian one. Do you know that Arabs did the same and also had white slaves in the past. Black Africans did the same thing as well, backs owned white slaves before ever entered the slave trade. There are countless other incidence as well, and guess its not like they suddenly stopped cause they had this epiphany. White males actually had to fight their way out of these circumstance, while on the flip side when we committed crimes we actually stopped on our own accord because we decided it wasn't morally right. Do you think they cared about what they did to white people? Not a chance, nor should they IMO. Thats why we need to get over the guilt and be proud cause the reality is that its everyone in the world versus white males. All these feminist groups, NAACP, LA RAZA, are after us, make no mistake about it. When the say there needs to be more diversity in politics and the business world that really means "less white men and more women and minorities". And really isn't that a real kick in the ass? While we white males build up successful companies like Boeing, Microsoft, Coca Cola, and others we than get told we have to hire different kinds of people. Even if you don't want to hire them or they aren't qualified you are forced to hire them. Can you imagine the outcry if this happened to a company founded by women or minorities, we wouldn't hear the end of it.Look at the the most successful and prosperous nations in the world, most of them are white and built by white men. Of course this November America voted in a black president even though he was severely under qualified and basically went into no details on how to sole the important issues. Of course a white male gets the boot after creating the most powerful and prosperous nation of all time, so they can put in a black person in charge. Now let me ask you where would you rather live, Europe or Africa? US or Haiti? Has there ever been a black president or leader that hasn't been a disaster? I mean look at the state of Africa, its the poorest continent on the planet. Look at Haiti, its the poorest country in the western hemisphere, and cause what its the only country in the western hemisphere that is lead by a black president and has a population thats majority black. I mean no white man can find this fair, and guess who voted the moron in? It was non-white males. Thats why we need to stick together, cause they may have the numbers advantage but we have the intellectual advantage. Remember we invented computers, the internet, cars, planes, landed a man on the moon, built a station in space, build the greatest civilizations, found cures for several diseases, ect. We're only about 5% of the words population yet we done 10 times more than everyone else combined. If it wasn't for the white mans mind everyone on earth would still be living like cave men. So if you're a white man who's a powerful business man, politician, or hold some form of power, I hope you look after your fellow white man and help him. Remember we're in this together and can only count on each other.  more

Resolved Question: Should I stay working as a hair stylist or take the position as salon manager?

I have been a stylist for 4 years and still have days when I am not as busy as I would like to be. In the 4 years since I have received my Master in Cosmetology I have taken 18 months off to have my son who is now three years old, moved three times and once to a different side of town and have worked at 3 different salons. While I am the lead stylist at my salon ( and the most busy/requested), I still have days like today where I did not have one client. All day! I wonder if this is the start of a steady decline of the hair styling industry (anything that is not a necessity) and just a glimpse of what to expect between a new election and the stock market, etc. My question to you is should I stay working 40 hours a week, making commission (45% of 0 = 0 - gas money) doing something I truly love and am good at? Or should I look into the management job that has become available at the salon? The management job will demand my full attention and will pay a guaranteed salary. It will also mean that I am the one who has to pick up all the slack if people dont show up or call out, it may also mean that I spend allot more time at work and will definitely bring work home with me. Remember I am a mother and wife, if I dont cook my family starves kind of thing. As a stylist is is crucial to your business that you stay in one place for a long period of time so people know where to find you and as a stylist you can build your business thru word of mouth referrals. I currently am able to go to work, clock in and color and cut hair all day clock out and go home. That is a great day except like today when I clocked in for 9 hours and did not have once client. This is the first day in a long time that this has happened (the no client all day thing). I have a family and we have our own home to take care of. I do have previous management experience. I have been with my current company for one year and the management position is with the same company in a neighboring city, twenty minutes away. Currently, I charge $55 for a women's cut and style and $30 for men's cut and style. My partial foil price starts at $85. I live in Atlanta, GA. My current salary varies based upon commission between $16,000 and $20,000/yr. As a manager I would look at a base salary of $40,000/yr with the opportunity to earn bonuses based on department performance. I would love to hear any/all thoughts as it is really weighing on my mind. I'd like to hear esp. from people who are changing the way they spend their money to see if their hair is an area they are cutting back on. Also I would like to know from other managers in the small business arena what you like most about your job and what you like least. Are you having trouble staffing qualified, top notch people? Are your employees happy? Tell me something to help me see the whole picture. Is the money worth it??? Thanks in advance. I should also add that it would be one or the other. I would either keep working on my clients for 40 hr/wk or take the management position and go to salary and refer my clients to someone else. more

Resolved Question: Look At The Facts! Obama VS McCain. Who Do You Choose?

Taxes: John McCain believes we must keep taxes low to reward hard work and create jobs for all Americans. Barack Obama wants to "spread the wealth around" and is more interested in controlling who gets your piece of the pie than he is in growing the pie. Economic Plan: John McCain has a comprehensive economic plan that will create millions of good American jobs, ensure our nation's energy security, get the government's budget and spending practices in order, and bring relief to American consumers. The Obama tax increase would come at the worst possible time for America, and especially for small businesses like the one Joe the Plumber dreams of owning. The small businesses Senator Obama would tax provide 16 million jobs in America. And a sudden tax hike for those businesses will kill jobs at a time when we need to be creating more jobs. Energy: John McCain will break from the past to lead a great national campaign to put us on a course for energy independence. No problem is more urgent today than our dependence on foreign oil. Barack Obama voted for the same policies that created the problem. He voted for the energy bill promoted by President Bush and Vice President Cheney, which gave even more breaks to the oil industry. Health Care John McCain will make health care more available, affordable and responsive to patients and he will give families more choices over their care. Barack Obama's plan will harm employer coverage, continues the push toward government-run health care and will damage private coverage. Reforming Washington John McCain has a record of working to end Washington's stagnant, unproductive partisanship. He will end wasteful government spending and put the government back on the side of the American people. The American people have not seen Barack Obama forsake partisanship for progress. In his short time in the Senate, Congressional Quarterly shows he voted with the Democrat Party 97 percent of the time. Government Spending John McCain is committed to and has long fought for restoring fiscal discipline by eliminating wasteful government spending. Out of control spending has resulted in a weaker dollar, raising the cost of groceries and gas and killing jobs. John McCain will rein in federal spending to help our families in tough economic times. Barack Obama plans to increase spending by nearly a trillion dollars. Already in three short years in the Senate, he has requested nearly a billion dollars in pork projects for his state and has been an eager participant in this corrupt system. Education John McCain will shake up failed school bureaucracies with competition, empower parents with choice, remove barriers to qualified instructors, attract and reward good teachers. Barack Obama wants our schools to answer to unions and entrenched bureaucracies. Iraq John McCain had the judgment to understand that America's strategy in Iraq was failing and the courage to call for a dramatic change. That strategy is now working, and America is succeeding in Iraq Barack Obama opposed the new strategy and predicted wrongly that it would fail. He voted to deny critical funds to our men and women fighting in Iraq. Now, read this over carefully. What ideas would be better? McCain's or Obama's? well, lets see. Nobody likes taxes, many people need new jobs and more opportunities, we need affordable health care, no more wasteful government spendings, we need better education, and we need protection. (McCain) and what we don't need is a president who's wife is friends with almost everyone who hates America, and she hates America herself (Obama). Plus! Obama has a whole bunch of criminals working for him! By criminals, I mean bad people. look it up I Choose McCain. Who Do You Choose?  more

Resolved Question: HELP ME! Follow up question: tax deductions for educational expenses. Are these expenses deductible?

I asked the following question a few days ago: "I'm a graduate student, but I also work part-time. For my dissertation research, I've received 3 grants. Grant A is from a government agency -- they gave the money to my university, which buys the stuff I need for me. I'm not going to declare this grant as income, and I'm not going to deduct any of the expenses. Grant B is the same, only it's from a private foundation. Grant C is from another private organization. Unlike the other two, they're giving the money directly to me. They asked for my info to fill out a 1099 form. Does this mean that I have to include this grant as personal income? When I use the grant for dissertation-related expenses (travel to collect data, lab supplies, publishing charges), can I deduct these when I prepare my taxes? I know that you can deduct business-related expenses if your employer doesn't reimburse you, but does this count as a job? And I know that, as a student, you can deduct education-related expenses like tuition and activity fees, but this doesn't seem to be in the same category." The one answer I got said that no, I couldn't deduct them. I didn't like that (who likes paying taxes?), so I looked at the IRS website. I found the IRA guidelines for deducting education expenses: "You can deduct the costs of qualifying work-related education as business expenses. This is education that meets at least one of the following two tests. The education is required by your employer or the law to keep your present salary, status, or job. The required education must serve a bona fide business purpose of your employer. The education maintains or improves skills needed in your present work. However, even if the education meets one or both of the above tests, it is not qualifying work-related education if it: Is needed to meet the minimum educational requirements of your present trade or business, or Is part of a program of study that will qualify you for a new trade or business. You can deduct the costs of qualifying work-related education as a business expense even if the education could lead to a degree." Here is my situation: I am a full time graduate student in anthropology. I teach anatomy part time at a different university. Obviously, I don't need the PhD to teach, since I'm teaching now, but most of the other teachers have Ph.D.'s in anthropology or another field. My original career goal was to become a researcher. Now, I think I'll stick with teaching. My dissertations doesn't directly impact by ability as an anatomy teacher, but I think I'll have more job opportunities with a Ph.D. (in any field) than I would if I didn't finish my dissertation. Do you think I can deduct my expenses as work-related educational expenses?V.B., I'm not trying to twist the tax law ... I was just trying to see if there was a way to save money since I'm going to have to pay taxes on thousands of dollars that are basically going to go straight to my advisor's lab. more
