Warning businesses won't have power reconnected

Queensland businesses are being warned electricity workers will not reconnect any power supply cut between this afternoon and tomorrow morning.

Electrical Trades Union state organiser Garry Rogers says the action is part of an escalating dispute with the State Government over pay and conditions.

Mr Rogers says the ban applies between 4.30pm today until 6.00am tomorrow.

"Say for example its domestic like in a new estate where families will be there they'll restore that power however if it's in the middle of an industrial district they'll make it safe but they won't be restoring it that night," he said.

The conflict between school and work led Damien Brooks to start his computer repair home business. Previously, the 27-year-old worked as a part-time technological agent at Circuit City Firedog.

"I was still going to school for 13 hours and was working part time. My boss started to increase my hours and my grades started to fall," Brooks said. "I approached him about it, and basically he told me to choose between school and work. I thought school is what got me this job. I decided I would do it for myself."

House Small Business Panel to Unveil Health Care Bill

House Small Business Committee Chairwoman Nydia Velazquez plans to unveil health care legislation this afternoon in a Capitol Hill news conference.

The Small Business Cooperative for Healthcare Options to Improve Coverage for Employees Act (Small Business CHOICE) is designed to encourage small firms to join health insurance cooperatives. The bill's main co-sponsor is Rep. Joseph Pitts (R-Pa.).

These purchasing cooperatives enable small businesses, which usually operate within the boundaries of a particular state, to collectively negotiate for improved health insurance for employees.

Small businesses are currently able to form these co-ops, but the bill would increase the incentive to do so by offering a refundable tax credit to small firms with no more than 100 employees that join a cooperative. more

Rail stop possible at former Middleboro station

Mattie said a rail station at the Washburn site would be a catalyst to revitalize the businesses in Everett Square, long considered blighted.

“It's an ideal spot for that type of use. It's got a screwed up layout of land, and a station could use every inch," he said noting, “It used to be a station."

Mattie, owner of Mattie Tire Service, said a train station would help jump start the businesses in the area.

The Lakeville station could be in jeopardy if officials set their sights on a Middleboro station. Mattie thinks the rail line could use both, something the rail manager said is a possibility.

“Even with the Middleboro alternative we might keep Lakeville open. We will only close (Lakeville) if absolutely necessary," Egan said. more

So im having trouble making my paragraphs flow good, and im not such a good writer >.<. Thx for ur time. I believe that men and women are equal in today's society, and to think otherwise is just thinking in the past. Of course we could sit here all day and argue how there are still people who judge by just looking at an applicant's name, or gender, but those are the ones who have bias views. It is human nature to be judgmental, no one can argue that. From the very first site at an object or person, one has already judge them and mentally placed them within a category or stereotype from the knowledge that they already know. Nearly everyone have learned of woman's rights and what they did to get to where they are now. Thinking of other genders one would instantly relate them to where they were and where they are now, only time will changes this. Stereotyping is also a big issue in gender, but it is the individual choice to be part of what the media portrays or against it. Today we find that the newer generation have a different view on gender, and that the only way to truly see our newer generation act like the old is with money. which leads to my thesis. The only "traditional" roles women and men still embrace today are those in which someone is willing to pay for. Gender has played a huge role in history, women have became or could be consider the "minority" of the human race, while men rule. Just like the black slaves, they have gain equality through protest. Mary Wollstonecraft in the 1700's, saw how the women were being treated back then. They were uneducated because they were told they would be better off at home, and were dependent on their spouses. Basically their only place was being a house wife. They weren't even able to vote until the 1920s. After fighting for equal rights, women have gain a different view from men, they have become their equals. The "women" of the past are now being looked down upon by the women of today. They are encourage to be individuals and do more than just becoming a housewife. Today women are individual who now have choices that they didn't have back then. They have choices to become anyone they wish to be, now instead of a battle for equal rights, it is a battle against their past. They try harder to not become the "Woman" that everyone expect them not to be. They don't want to be the stereotype of the past but of the future, and the future stereo type for females are those who don't want to be the "woman" of the past. As Simone De Beauvoir claims, "A person is not born a woman but makes herself a woman." Beauvoir believed that women shouldn't subject to the role that has been given to them by the other gender, and by accepting this role they will sub come to the stereotype of a women. This is also a belief that I agree on being part of a race that has elders and who still believe a woman should be the "traditional Women." It is only in America that women here are considers as friends, or as equals to men. Where as in other countries, woman are very traditional. In Japan, most women are driven to have good jobs and be place around very successful males. When they find their definition of a "man," they then marry him and quit their jobs to become house wives. I only relate this to us is because it is not woman who is burden with how they should be. In today's pop culture, men are viewed as two types, the stupid drop out who settle for a mediocre life, or the successful business man, DR, or Lawyer. There isn't any difference because here in America we have learned to be equal and self motivated. The only difference in gender is that females now have a choice if they want to become a "woman," or a person. While we are constantly reminded that men have had this choice since the beginning. Most generalization of gender comes from an individual, and sadly most individual believe that men and women in today society are unequal. Every individual have a choice of how they want to turn out. They can be pulled in by the media and become mindless followers, or they can become a person who thinks for themselves and live up to their own standard. It is true that most men have not changed very much from what they expect from women, but all those men's are from older generations. Today's generations many men would prefer a strong wielded, independent women that knows where she is going in life. Most movies women are portrayed as victimized and stars in degrading videos but that's only because they put themselves in that position. Movies often like to go into the past and give women roles of how things use to be, that's why we all have views of traditional women because we always reminded of the past. Historical Republican policy is good for economic growth, but that isn't good for the ultra rich, almost all of whom are democrats. The ultra rich have much more control when the masses are poor and dependent on the government. The billionaires don't pay much in taxes anyway. Those behind the democrats power wise don't even have to pay. Note that most of Obama's picks for cabinet had tax problems? But no trouble with the IRS over it like we would have? Get a clue from reality. The poor suffer most under democrats, and when Obama is done the poor will have almost zero opportunity in the US, unless they join the Obama mob and do his dirty work.
