New rocket aims for space tourism market
Entrepreneurs of the new commercial space age plan to start test flights in 2010 of a practical four-engine rocket ship that will take people on Mach 2 thrill rides up to 200,000 feet and which also has the interest of the Air Force.
The design of the Lynx rocket was shown off Wednesday by Xcor Aerospace, a Mojave, Calif.-based company that has spent nine years developing rocket engines.
Fueled by liquid oxygen and kerosene, the two-seat ship - a bit more slender than a small executive jet - is intended to operate like an airliner, making up to four flights a day while using runways for takeoffs and landings like a normal airplane.
CEO Jeff Greason withheld specifics of costs and technical details at a news conference but said he was certain investors will finance construction of the Lynx, which he estimated from will cost "south of $10 million," not including previous development costs. more

Challenging Israel’s war on protest Pip Hinman 13 March 2010 Bridget Chappell, an Australian solidarity worker in the Palestinian territory of the West Bank, was arrested by occupying Israeli forces on February 7 and threatened with deportation for simply engaging in peaceful protests alongside Palestinians. Solidarity activists have asked Australia’s foreign affairs department to intervene in support of Chappell to allow her to continue her work in the West Bank. Chappell was arrested in a pre-dawn raid for alleged “visa irregularities” — even though she had a valid bridging visa. At the time, Chappell’s arrest featured prominently in the Australian media. But since the Israeli Supreme Court declared her arrest illegal and released them on bail on February 9 the case has faded from view. Chappell is fighting to be able to continue her work in the West Bank with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) — a Palestinian-led movement committed to resisting the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land using non-violent direct action. She is also fighting attempts by the Israeli government to have her deported — the fate of other ISM volunteers. Israel’s “war on protest” — as Israeli daily Haaretz put it — is intended to undermine a joint non-violent campaign by international activists and Palestinian villagers challenging a land grab by Israel as it builds the separation wall on farmland in the West Bank. The arrests are in response to those organising protests against the wall. The last major confrontation between Israel and the ISM resulted in deaths and injuries of international activists at the hands of the Israeli army. The horrendous case of US ISM volunteer Rachel Corrie, who was run down and killed by an army bulldozer in 2003 as she attempted to stop a home demolition in Gaza, is the most well known. On March 10, the Haifa District Court began hearing eyewitness testimonies in a civil lawsuit filed by Corrie’s family against the state of Israel for her unlawful killing. Chappell told Green Left Weekly that she is very worried about being able stay. She said Israel does not want people, like herself, bearing witness to Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine, and its continued settlement building. She is concerned that Australia’s consular assistance has been minimal. Given the Australian government’s close relationship with Israel, a number of people have signed a letter, drafted by the Sydney Stop the War Coalition, urging the foreign affairs department to assist Chappell. The letter states that Chappell was not participating in “illegal riots”, as claimed by the arresting officials, and that she “was certainly not involved in the dirty business of scamming passports to assassinate political leaders – as agents of the Israeli state have allegedly been recently caught out doing”. The statement concluded: “We would like to know what Australian consular officials are doing to assist Ms Chappell. She should be allowed to return to the West Bank; she should not be deported.” Signatories include (organisations listed for identification purposes only): John Pilger; Antony Loewenstein; Archdeacon Philip Newman; Dr Jake Lynch (Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, Sydney University), Peter Slezak (School of History amd Philosophy, UNSW), Vivienne Porzsolt (Jews Against the Occupation), Cathy Peters (Marrickville Greens councillor), Ned Curthoys (Australian National University), Peter Boyle (Socialist Alliance) and Sonja Karkar (Australians for Palestine). Instead of blaming republican obstructionists during a democratic majority in Washington DC? (AP) WASHINGTON - Labor’s high hopes for major gains under President Barack Obama and a Democratic Congress have dimmed, raising fresh doubts about union leverage even in the best of political times. Prospects for a health overhaul have faded. Even slimmer are the chances of achieving labor’s chief goal, passage of a bill making it easier for unions to organize workers. A bipartisan jobs bill passed this week by the Senate drew tepid praise from the AFL-CIO president, Richard Trumka, who called it a "Band-Aid on an amputated limb" _ far short of what unions wanted. This wasn’t what unions expected a year ago after spending more than $400 million to help elect Obama and increase the size of Democratic majorities in the Senate and House. Leaders of labor’s largest federation will try to figure out how to refocus their political agenda when they begin their annual meeting in Orlando, Fla., on Monday. Another setback came in January when two Senate Democrats joined Republicans in blocking the appointment of labor lawyer Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board. Becker has worked for the AFL-CIO and Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Republicans have said they fear Becker would push the board to require companies to recognize unions if they can get a simple majority of employees to sign union cards _ the same "card check" measure that’s stalled in Congress. Labor leaders were counting on Obama put Becker in the post when Congress was out of session. They were disappointed when Obama said he wouldn’t do it anytime soon. "Enough is enough," Trumka said in an e-mail to labor activists. He urged union members to call the White House and "demand that President Obama fight Republican obstructionism" on Becker’s nomination. Some labor experts say unions have come up flat in mounting an effective liberal response to "tea party" activists who helped Republican Scott Brown win the special Senate election in Washington to succeed Democrat Edward M. Kennedy, who died last year. An AFL-CIO poll showed that 49 percent of union households supported Brown. "There’s been no indication that there’s muscle behind their money," said Leon Fink, a labor historian at the University of Illinois at Chicago. "There was no equivalent mobilization for public works or for a progressive health care measure." Even more troubling for unions, their membership in the private sector fell 10 percent during Obama’s first year in office to a historic low of 7.2 percent. A poll this past week from the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press found that 41 percent of those surveyed have a favorable view of unions, compared with 58 percent in a similar survey in 2007. http://kstp.com/business/stories/S1439269.shtml?cat=1 moreVoting Question: • Would this work, for a generic, sempiternal, almost Collins-like, project clone ?

The photographic evidence of Rajapaksa family members partying with LTTE elements in foreign countries whilst people at home are denied even rudimentary voting rights and 26,000 military perished in Eelam War 4 make this a very unsatisfactory distortion of democratic process. When even the Election Day functions are sullied by early morning explosions and bombings by Rajapaksa led military, the entire 17th amendment initiative scrapped by a string of terrorist attacks on police stations and training facilities (when there is a clear LTTE/Rajapaksa family affiliation) there is no option other than stepping down from office or Repolling with international election experts running the operations. The harassment of Swiss press by The Rajapaksa administration may also effect India's position negatively as India in its hegemonic desires that gave birth, supported, trained and financed the LTTE for the past 30+ years also happens to get itself positioned in an Election day controversy where the Rajapaksas depart "unexpectedly" to New Delhi and a string of explosions over Sri Lanka waterways is mimicked by an exactly strange occurrence in the Koreas when lo and behold the chief guest for India's promotional act of independence is none other that the president of South Korea. Indian Political pundits can announce this "landslide" as a manna falling from heaven but the reality is that there is nothing miraculous about cheating and to have such audacity as denying Fonseka even his own franchise, utilizing state media (which had already been reported to be 90+% monopolized by Rajapaksa) tasking utilizing former lieutenant Gothabaya Rajapaksa (who went from ret'dlieutenantt directly to head of military) denying a four star General that led the war effort sans the LTTE last days atVannii (as Fonseka was in China on business during that juncture) makes Fonseka the architect andadministratorr of a very successful war and hostage rescue operation and makes the Rajapaksa Brothers the responsible parties for those last events at the Vanni - not the military, not the security apparatus, not the country but the Rakapaksas. Gothabaya Rajapaksa being a US citizen is fully accountable not to India but to the USA for these pre/post election violences, the disruption of the elections process on morning of elections, he is also responsible for the intake of military deserters (so if there were any placed in Fonseka's detail they also would be coming from the Rajapaksas, just as the attempt to insert SB Dissanayake as Opposition Leader (Rajapaksa first cousin) and the fraudulent attempt for this Indian pundit to refer to SLFP as Rajapaksa's party when in actuality he is in UPFA is just more Indian parsing for India getting caught once again red-handed in supporting illegal political activity ( which in this case is diminutive form of terrorism on the Citizen's franchise) a matter that requires the immediate curtailment of any further hegemonic advances of India. Gothabaya Rajapaksa was recused from further arms purchases after the M. Rajapaksa declared "end of war" and even his brother the current president agreed with this move. With huge contingents of security details for Rajapaksa family members there can not be guarantee if military deserters were somehow overlooked and placed into Fonseka detail by Gothabaya Rajapaksa that these same kinds of Rajapaksa "mistakes" haven't occured in others. But there is no explicable error in Rajapaksa's continual chumminess with certain LTTE elements, thugs, traffickers that has now trickled down to his own son. When we have state organizations that have performed outstandingly in efforts to incorporate the 17th amendment and a US citizen of questionable repute completely circumventing the constitutional process as well as sending repetetive threats to political leaders over wire services these acts must be duly reported not just to Sri Lanka government and military but also US. As for India who has always tried to foist its proverbial "Big Toe" of extermist elements at neighbours we say before you try and develop or culturalize Sri Lanka clean up and develop your own country. If India (which undoubtably does) have a hand in removing Swiss press or any other Swiss service from Sri Lanka then they are in direct contravention of internationally accepted protocols of the import of nuetral party involvements that were placed and approved by many including myself at Mannar. India's persistent meddling and encroachment has once again backfired. Between 1991-2001 Buddhism grew in India by 18.2%, and this number is far less reported as to get reservation benefits, most of the converted Buddhist have reported their religion as Hindu and caste as SC/ST/OBC. But that is not the que, the que is, how can a Chief Minister of the state announce building a temple? That is unconstitutional. As per definition, government should not be in promotion of religion in a secular state. Congress subsidy etc blah blah ......? Is any one saying that this policy of Congress is right? Amid all the mainstream media reports of the talks in Copenhagen “limping” to a close and having failed, Lord Christopher Monckton, reporting from the summit, has stated that the only goal of the conference was to implement the framework and the funding for a world government – which he asserts has been achieved. “That is the one thing that they are definitely going to succeed in doing here and they will announce that as a victory in itself, and they will be right because that is the one and only single aim of this entire global warming conference, to establish the mechanism, the structure, and above all the funding for a world government.” the British politician, business consultant, policy adviser exclusively told the Alex Jones show yesterday. “They are going to take from the western countries the very large financial resources required to do that.” Monckton said, adding “They will disguise it by saying they are setting up a $100 billion fund for adaptation to climate change in third world countries, but actually, this money will almost all be gobbled up by the international bureaucracy.” “The first thing they will do, and the one thing I think they were always going to succeed in doing at this conference is to agree to establish what will be delicately called ‘the institutional framework’. Now that is a code word for world government.” Lord Monckton explained that although the word “government” has been dropped from the treaty, all the interlocking bureaucratic features of a world government are still present in the final draft of the treaty, which also legislates for a global tax on financial transactions that will be paid directly to the World Bank. “These are the new entities that they are going to bring into being in order to create this world government” he said. -------- “World government is coming because the leaders of the West have given up. They no longer care about democracy, they know longer care about the truth about the climate.” Monckton said. “They are willing to go along with this world government because they see roles for themselves in that world government in exactly the same way as the leaders of the EU did.” moreResolved Question: Is amnesty looking more and more possible Hundreds march in Arizona in favor of immigration reform?
Tucson, Arizona, Dec 10 (EFE).- Tired of promises and being the target of laws that seek to criminalize them, hundreds of immigrants took to the streets here and in other Arizona cities on Thursday to call for quick approval of immigration reform. "Today is International Human Rights Day and so we're marching to defend our rights," Jennifer Allen, Arizona director of the Border Action Network, told Efe. "We also want our senators and politicians to fight for our rights and be leaders promoting - and pressuring for - approval of immigration reform," the activist said. In Tucson, about 100 people, most of them woman pushing baby carriages or strollers, marched to the local offices of Republican Sen. Jon Kyl from where they then walked about eight miles to the offices of his colleague, John McCain. The group delivered at the offices of both lawmakers the names of 13,000 residents of southern Arizona who are asking for their support for immigration reform that will regularize the status of the millions of undocumented immigrants who live and work in the United States. "Arizona is one of the states with many anti-immigrant forces, with state laws that penalize undocumented people, so it's from here that a 'call' has to go out to defend the basic rights of every individual which are human rights," Allen said. On Nov. 24, a state law entered into force that obligates employees at government agencies in Arizona to report to immigration authorities undocumented people who come to their offices to request public benefits. The implementation of the law is generating fear and lack of confidence among immigrant families who come to government offices to ask for help like food stamps for their U.S.-born children. "Many people are afraid of asking for basic services. The mothers are even afraid of taking their children to medical appointments. This is one of several effects of the anti-immigrant wave we're experiencing," the activist emphasized. Yolanda Medrano said she came to the march to fight for the rights of the children since, in her opinion, "there are many people" in Arizona who do not want the children of undocumented people to have any rights. It is expected that next week Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) will present an immigration reform bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. "We want immigration reform, so that all these attacks against our community stop," Graciela Bernal told Efe. The Tucson resident said she had a friend whom authorities arrested in her own home after she had gone to a government office to request public benefits. "We've been waiting for immigration reform for years, and nothing ever happens," she said. Arizona is one of the states with the greatest number of laws against illegal immigration, among them sanctions on employers that penalize businesses that knowingly hire undocumented people. In Arizona, undocumented people must pay foreign student tuition when they enroll in universities and community colleges. "It's very sad what is happening in Arizona. We're seeing many families who are being separated because one or both of the parents have been deported," said Maria Valenzuela, the mother of three small children. She added that many of her neighbors were interested in participating in the march but they were too afraid to thereby potentially publicly label themselves as undocumented immigrants and decided to stay at home. moreResolved Question: URGENT action needed to reduce pollution. Is it time to end free trade?
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/08/science/earth/08climate.html Meeting on Climate Opens With Calls for Urgent Action In the spirit of international cooperation, world leaders agree that urgent action is needed to curb pollution. So I, for one, finally agree that we have no choice but to end free trade. How can we possibly justify the unneccesary burning of fossil fuels and the resulting pollution from all those ships crossing the ocean to bring cheap imports to Walmart, when the same items could be made right here in the USA for only a few dollars more. We can no longer sit silently as these huge vessels cross the ocean belching pollution and all those greenhouse gas emissions. How much longer must we continue the insanity of free trade, while it is contributing to global pollution and consuming fossil fuels? SECONDLY, bringing those jobs back to the USA would cut down on unemployment, which is another issue President Obama is addressing. The time for complacency is over. We can no longer sit back and say there's nothing we can do to end free trade. We can no longer idly stand by saying we care more about cheap prices at Walmart than we do about saving the environment. The time has come to limit imports, and cut the cord of dependency on foreign sweatshops to supply the household items we need for our daily existence. THIRDLY, if we cut imports by applying a tariff, the tariff would generate desperately needed revenues that would reduce our ruinous deficit, while reducing the trillion dollar trade deficit that increases our debt and weakens our currency. Deficit reduction is another one of the issues President Obama says we must address. In fact, during the campaign Obama himself said we must reform free trade: http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Barack_Obama_Free_Trade.htm OBAMA: For far too long, certainly during the course of the Bush administration with the support of Sen. McCain, the attitude has been that any trade agreement is a good trade agreement. And NAFTA did not have enforceable labor agreements and environmental agreements. And what I said was we should include those and make them enforceable. In the same way that we should enforce rules against China manipulating its currency to make our exports more expensive and their exports to us cheaper. And when it comes to South Korea, we’ve got a trade agreement up right now, they are sending hundreds of thousands of South Korean cars into the US. That’s all good. We can only get 4,000 to 5,000 into South Korea. That is not free trade. We’ve got to have a president who is going to advocate on behalf of American businesses and American workers and I make no apology for that Source: 2008 third presidential debate against John McCain Oct 15, 2008 Global trade is unsustainable if it favors only the few This is the moment when we must build on the wealth that open markets have created, and share its benefits more equitably. Trade has been a cornerstone of our growth and global development. But we will not be able to sustain this growth if it favors the few, and not the many. Together, we must forge trade that truly rewards the work that creates wealth, with meaningful protections for our people and our planet. This is the moment for trade that is free and fair for all. Source: Speech in Berlin, in Change We Can Believe In, p.268 Jul 24, 2008 Isn't it time, then, to make meaningful changes in our foreign trade policy, and start reducing our $2 trillion dollar a year habit of reliance on imports?Shovel Ready, correct! We have relocated our manufacturing pollution to other countries, where the same manufacturing creates even more pollution because of their lax or non-exitent environmental protections, PLUS we create the extra pollution of shipping the products back to the USA. So we cut down our pollution here and increased global pollution by two or three times as much. How smart was that?Terry, good point! Much of air travel is totally unnecessary business travel, and much of that is businessmen flying overseas to keep up with their outsourced production or to shop for a foreign sweatshop that makes the cheapest imports. We could cut way down on air travel by curtailing imports.Gee, I would think I would get a lot of answers from all those liberals who are so dedicated to saving the environment. HK's GDP, GDP/capita, business environment/opportunities, Chinese language ability, knowledge on China, freedom of expressions/press/protests/gatherings, ease in setting up companies/doing business, flexibilities, people's persistence/hardworking, long working hours, gift's investments in infrastrutures, transparents of the govt and policies, degree of govt in listening to its people, willingness of HK's media to report on even the most devastated events........so forth are surely much greater in Hong Kong than in Singapore, yet since its return to China, Hong Kong is getting less and less mentioned in the international arena. World prominent leaders like the US President has visited Singapore few times in recent years, giving keynote speeches there which helped to draw tremendous of worldwide publicity/promotions on the small city nation. The US President has not stepped foot in Hong Kong since its return. At the same time and quite on the contrary, certain media and spokesmen inside the mainland time and again deliberately downplay or attack on HK's success particularly the bald headed Commentator, Mr Yuen Chi San of the Phoenix TV who talks more like a leftest of the Central Govt spokesman, with an intention to inform people in the mainland that the gap between the 2 places is not as threatening nor as big as one would have imagined. Also many foreingers living outside of China eg those appearing on here are confused about HK's status, some even thought HK is just another communist city like Shanghai or Beijing. For those that have been living in HK before and after '97 the sovereignty handover would agree that HK's governing, systems, responsiveness to citizens' concerns including cleaniliness of streets, plantations, freedom of press and expressions, business and job opportunities, govt investments and work etc etc are much better now than before.correction above, "gift's" investments in infrastrutures should read "govt's".Serious answers/analysis highly appreciated.Elena S, things arent as simple as you imagine out in the political world. Don has correctly pointed out that the competition between Hong Kong and Singapore is in reality competitions between the 2 forces, ie US and China acting behind. In case you dont know, Singapore had its systems borrowed from HK after the country was set up back in the 60s. Like China of today, Sing dispatched a lot of its civil servants to go to HK in the 70s and early 80s and to learn HK's govt systems and so forth. HK's ICAC, HKTDC, HKTB, Housing Authority etc are all being copied by the Sing. government. moreResolved Question: Who thinks the Obama Administration should cut stimulus spending?
Don't ditch stimulus support, IMF warns The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that governments must continue to support their economies. IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has told an audience of business leaders in Britain that the global recovery is still precarious. Since the collapse of Lehman Brothers in September last year, governments and central banks have committed trillions of dollars in stimulus money and bank guarantees. Leaders in Europe are now arguing over the spiralling cost of the economic bailout, with Germany and France calling for a reduction in state support. But the IMF says it is too early to pull the plug. The warning from the fund coincided with the release of growth figures for the world's leading economies. The top performer was Japan, which grew 1.2 per cent, and the United Kingdom was the worst performer, contracting by 0.4 per cent. 1 second ago - 4 days left to answer. moreResolved Question: If democrats and unions support healthcare, why are they taking more bribes?
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/editorial/outlook/6719913.html It was no surprise that AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka and Andy Stern, president of Service Employees International Union (SEIU), cheered the results of the House vote. After spending almost $80 million during the last election cycle, unions are on the brink of reaping a significant return on their investment. Despite representing only about 7.6% of private sector employees, unions are poised to gain significant privileges, authority and financial windfalls from health care reform. Coming at the expense of tax-paying patients and businesses, these specific benefits would do little or nothing to improve our health care system. The unions’ path to this point has been interesting. When the public recognized that the Employee Free Choice Act (the card check bill) was not a good idea, labor leaders turned to some old-fashioned misdirection tactics. While higher-profile aspects of health care reform drew attention, pro-union legislators slipped a variety of big benefits for labor into the proposed legislation. Quietly tucked among the proposals’ thousands of pages, these provisions have avoided much scrutiny. One provision epitomizes the nature of this ploy. According to research firms, unions are woefully short of funds to pay their retirees’ anticipated insurance claims. Thus, under the House resolution, union leaders who have mismanaged these plans for their members could receive up to $10 billion in taxpayer-funded bailout money, innocuously referred to as a “reinsurance program.” So basically the taxpayers are taking over the Union Healthcare program. moreResolved Question: Jehovah's Witnesses can we answer this question by the President about theocracy?

Excerpts: The Earth's average temperatures have stopped climbing since the beginning of the millennium, and it even looks as though global warming could come to a standstill this year. Ironically, climate change appears to have stalled in the run-up to the upcoming world summit in the Danish capital, where thousands of politicians, bureaucrats, scientists, business leaders and environmental activists plan to negotiate a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Billions of euros are at stake in the negotiations. But a few scientists simply refuse to believe the British calculations. "Warming has continued in the last few years," says Stefan Rahmstorf of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). However, Rahmstorf is more or less alone in his view. Hamburg Max Planck Institute scientist Jochem Marotzke, on the other hand, says: "I hardly know any colleagues who would deny that it hasn't gotten warmer in recent years." The controversy sends confusing and mixed messages to the lay public. Why is there such a vigorous debate over climate change, even though it isn't getting warmer at the moment? And how can it be that scientists cannot even arrive at a consensus on changes in temperatures, even though temperatures are constantly being measured? Could it be that this is simply a natural trend and many have jumped to conclusions that don't really exist? http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,662092,00.html moreResolved Question: Godly teacher what is a genuine theocracy and what is counterfeit theocracy and which brings peace and justice?

And ye shall call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith Jehovah, and I will turn again your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places wither I have driven you, saith Jehovah; and I will bring you again unto the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive." If we do not seek with all our heart that God with that hallowed name Jehovah, we stay in captive to this Devil's world and bad ways! Many Bibles rightly keep that divine name in. (See Revelation 22:18,19)Revelation 22: 18,19 King James Bible "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, [Jehovah] God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, [Jehovah] God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." If Jehovah's divine hallowed name was in his own word near 7000 times at one time, it was in there by divine law and therefore needs to stay there or be put back so all will be able to call on the right God for help. The Devil wants people to call on any god but Jehovah. And the greater number of people are in deed doing what the Devil loves having them do! Genuine theocracy is from Jehovah God! Counterfeit theocracy is from the Devil! Everlasting life comes from Jehovah not the Devil! But the choice who we worship is our free will! moreResolved Question: English Speakers, please help me!!! correct this text. I am learning English.?

This is for a short school paper. Comments? Nething else? This is what I have so far: If I were elected president of the U.S. in 2012, I would try to reduce greenhouse emissions for the good of mankind. The main goal of my campaign would be to lower the cost of alternative energy sources for the public. First of all, I would give tax incentives to civilians who purchased fuel efficient or electric cars, with the electric car getting the larger incentive. I would also give tax breaks and additional grants to those companies who researched alternative energy methods, such as solar panels, hydropower, and wind mills. Furthermore, I would hire scientists to design and build me a luxurious solar powered jet for my international travels. Thus, I would not be hypocritical. Also, funding public awareness of energy savings would be imperative to my campaign. The main focus of this campaign would be how much money a person can save each year through simply unplugging items when they aren’t in use. Any person, business, etcetera would be given an enormous tax incentive if they only updated their homes to be more energy friendly; a few of these upgrades would include energy efficient windows, garden rooftops, and light colored roofing. On the international level, I would speak with other leaders and convince them to follow my lead for a better future. If I were the president, I would strive to decrease our impact on the environment. moreResolved Question: I need help determining what I want to study to have a satisfying career ? Should I start over?
I have been studying for four years going on my fifth year of college. For the most part I have been studying at a community college, but I have recently transferred to a state college and I am very unsure about the path that I am on. Right now I am studying international business marketing, where I love the aspect of working with international companies but I am starting to really dread the sales men aspect of business.I know that I love working with a wide range of people and that "usually" I am a group leader, but I also want to find some kind of career that will be overall very satisfying. I have started thinking about completely changing my major to something like forensics or bioengineering. I have always been interested in science, I just never gave pursuing a career in science much thought. I all so feel like if I decided to go another route that I would be spending another 5 years in college which would overall just be more exhausting. I am so confused. IF YOU GOING TO EDIT THIS FOR ME, THANK YOU. PLEASE DON'T BE CRUEL!!!! For a country to achieve great success in a particular sector, it is of great importance for said country to invest in education, either in the private sector or the public sector, thereby producing knowledge workers. Canada, including many other countries such as Japan and India have adopted this strategy and utilizing it to their own advantage, have dominated many industries; some of which being Gaming, Robotics, and Pharmaceuticals. It was only a few decades ago, when the gaming industry was first born. It was the birth of Nintendo, Sega, Dreamcaste, etc. Today the gaming industry has escalated into one of the biggest and wealthiest markets in the world. “According to IDC(International Data Coporation), gaming was a 26.6 billion dollar worldwide industry in 2006 and it is only prospering.” This industry is now making more than Hollywood annually, which was never seen possible. Countries like Canada specifically, have looked at this industry and saw it as a big asset, and so invested in it. Canada has taken advantage of this opportunity and now has become the leader in Gaming. How? Canada didn’t just buy Gaming companies from other countries and such, they went for a more logical and more beneficial route in the long run, and they invested in education, producing knowledge workers, who in the long run established their own gaming operations, which have become a global brand, such as Montreal’s UBISOFT. The Canadian government have invested millions into gaming industries and education and in return receive 1000’s of jobs. “The government of Ontario…managed to lure Ubisoft with an investment of C$263 million ($227 million US) over 10 years to help set up the publisher's new digs. For its part, Ubisoft will be spending more than half a billion dollars in the new development studio, which will create over 800 jobs.” Ubisoft, a known global gaming brand, is looking to expand, “unveiling an ambitious six-year, $451-million expansion to its operations. The plan will see Ubisoft's ranks in Quebec swell from 1,600 employees to 3,000 by the end of 2013, with 500 of those new jobs earmarked for a recently created in-house animation studio.” Not only are they expanding operations they are looking to produce movies, "We're going to take the next few years to learn how to make movies," said Ubisoft Montreal communications director Cedric Orvoine. The step taken by Canadian Gaming companies to become a global leader has helped the economy significantly, in the sense that it provides lots of jobs, and brings in lots of revenue and in these rough times Canadian businesses need to step up, and do their part to help end the recession in Canada. “The Canadian gaming industry generates $14 billion in revenues a year and directly supports more than 50,000 jobs in Canada.” Not many Canadians are aware that the gaming industry gives back to the Canadian community, but in a PMG poll it is highlighted that the Canadian gaming industry actually contributes $7 billion to governments and charities and invests about $75 million annually on responsible gaming research and treatment. These polls themselves justify how important these industries are to the Canadian economy and to Canada. We can all honestly say that Canadian gaming industries ultimately give back more than how much we invest into them. Today, we live in a new age, a society where technology is much more advanced than it has ever been. We no longer break are backs doing tasks that require hard labour; instead we have robots that perform tasks efficiently and conveniently. Robotics, what is it? Robotics is the engineering science and technology of robots, and their design, manufacture, application, and structural disposition. It has only been about a century since Henry Ford proposed and used the idea of an assembly line, where robots were used to build cars faster and better. From their, we have come to an age where we can produce robots that can walk, talk, and follow commands. “There are robots serving as receptionists, vacuuming office corridors, spoon-feeding the elderly. They serve tea, greet company guests and chatter away at public technology displays.” We have come here with the help of the Japanese, who have invested billions of dollars in the education of knowledge workers and have funded many robotic projects, “In the past several years, the government has funded a plethora of robotics-related efforts, including some $42 million for the first phase of a humanoid robotics project, and $10 million a year between 2006 and 2010 to develop key robot technologies.” It is evident that Japan is the most dominating country in robotics, which is due their commitment and dedication to this field. Some ask why Japan takes that much of a risk, investing billions in this field, and in order to answer that question you must look at the statistics; According to Hiroko Tabuchi of the associated moreResolved Question: Can I get into Duke University?

The fact is that Korah was of the people of Moses, but he rebelled against them; and We had given him so many treasures that their very keys would have weighed down a band of strong men. Once his people said to him, "Do not exult, for Allah does not like the exultant. (al qasas 76) * This fact also is being related in continuation of the answer to the excuse which has been the theme of the discourse from verse 57 onward. In this regard, one should bear in mind the fact that the people who feared that the Holy Prophet Muhammad's message would affect the overall national interests adversely were, in fact, the big money owners, money-lenders and capitalists of Makkah, who by virtue of their international trade and money-lending business had become the Korahs of their time. These were the people who thought that the real truth was to earn and amass maximum wealth. Anything that seemed to vitiate this object was an untruth which could not be accepted in any case. On the other hand, there were the common people who looked with longing eyes at these magnates and earnestly desired that they should also attain the same heights as those people had attained. In an atmosphere charged with the love of money, as it was, people considered it to be a weighty argument that if the invitation of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (upon whom be Allah's peace) towards Tauhid and the Hereafter and the moral code was accepted it would spell ruin for the Quraish not only commercially but economically too. ** Qarun who has been called Korah in the Bible and the Talmud was a first cousin of the Prophet Moses. According to the account of descent given in Exodus (ti: 18-21) the fathers of the Prophet Moses and Korah were real brothers. At another place in the Qur'an it has been stated that this man had joined with Pharaoh inspite of being an Israelite and become one of his favourites; so much so that one of the two ring-leaders of opposition to Prophet Moses after Pharaoh was this same Korah: "We sent Moses to Pharaoh and Haman and Korah with Our Signs and a clear authority of appointment, but they said, `He is a sorcerer, a liar'." (Al-Mu'min :23-24). From this it follows that Korah had rebelled against his own people and become a supporter of the hostile forces which were bent upon wiping out the Israelites. On account of this rebellion against his own people he had attained a high place with Pharaoh and the two persons, besides Pharaoh, to whom the Prophet Moses had been sent were Pharaoh's minister, Haman, and this Israelite capitalist, Korah. All other chiefs and couriers were of inferior status, who were not worth mentioning. The same position of Korah has been alluded to in Al' Ankabut: 39. *** In the story related of him in the Bible (Num., ch. 16), there is no mention of this man's wealth. But according to the Jewish traditions, he possessed immense wealth, so much so that three hundred mules were required to Barry the keys of his' treasures. (Jewish Encyclopedia, Vol. VII, p. 556). Though greatly exaggerated this statement shows that even according to the Israelite traditions, Korah was a very wealthy man of his time. moreResolved Question: Holy crap... have you ever looked at the audience shots during the Harvard-Yale game?

I mean, the GOP have asked the Chief of Fox News to run for President in 2012 and become the Republican party leader, and now this: A Fox News host is scheduled to make several appearances next week at events and forums where he will "discuss the dangers of government-forced health care," alongside the head of the anti-tax and anti-health care reform group Americans for Prosperity. John Stossel, a former co-anchor of ABC's 20/20, is hosting a new show on the Fox Business Network called "Stossel," which is described as featuring "in-depth reports on domestic and international libertarian issues" like civil liberties, the business of health care and Social Security. The network refers to Stossel as a journalist on its website---in fact, "one of the most talented and thought-provoking journalists in the field." But some, like The Plum Line's Greg Sargent, wonder whether the network that "is embroiled in a high-profile battle with the White House over its legitimacy as a news outlet" should be allowing "one of its proudly touted journalists to participate in an event decrying Obama’s health care reform proposals as 'government-forced health care.'”Um, dude with the Stossel comment: Stossel is the Fox News Host appearing at the rallies. Founded in 1773 and reincorporated as a private limited company in 1986, the LSE is also the world leader in international share trading. The LSE operates a number of market products, including the main board listing, featuring more than 3,000 companies and including over 500 international companies, as well as the secondary AIM (Alternative Investment Market), established in 1995 as a vehicle for trades in small, high-growth companies. More than 70 companies are listed on the AIM board. After launching the Stock Exchange Electronic Trading Services (SETS) in 1997, the LSE introduced a new listing, techMARK, tailored to the specific needs of the high-technology sector and designed to compete with the NASDAQ index. With a total equity turnover value of more than £3.5 billion, the LSE achieved gross revenues of £149.8 million in 1999. The LSE is led by Chairman John Kemp-Welch and CEO Gavin Casey. Founded in 1773, the LSE reflects more than 200 years of the development of share-based enterprise. The world's first joint-stock company was created in the mid-16th century. Traditionally, companies were either owned by a single individual or through a partnership with two or more owners. While this arrangement sufficed for smaller businesses and stable market sectors, direct financial responsibility for riskier endeavors--such as the great trade exploration voyages of the period--were judged too precarious for an individual or limited group of investors. The organization of such a venture, that of a voyage to trace a northern sea route to the Far East from London in 1553, introduced the world's first shareholder-based company. Selling shares to a larger number of investors reduced the financial risk for each individual investor, while enabling the company itself to raise the capital needed to fund its operations. This first joint-stock company failed to find a northern sea route to the Far East. However, a meeting with Russian tsar Ivan the Terrible brought the company the exclusive rights to trade between Russia and England. The Muscovy Company, as it came to be called, became a commercial success, rewarded its shareholders with large profits, and inspired the creation of new investment ventures. The Muscovy Company served as the model for future shareholder-based companies. Investors contributed capital funding, while direction of the company's operations remained in the hands of its management. The investors, who were allowed to sell their holdings or buy more shares, were given dividends according to the company's profits. As more companies were set up following the Muscovy model, a new profession came into being, that of the broker, who acted as a middleman for trades of shares, helping to boost not only the number of joint-stock companies but also the number of investors. Adding impetus to this movement was the foundation of the Bank of England as a joint-stock company by King William III in order to provide funding for England's military campaign against France at the end of the 17th century. The shareholder system was given further support by legislation to limit and punish brokers for malpractice. By the 18th century, a flourishing "market" for shares was in place--so much so that the period marked the first stock market crash in 1720. While trading took place at the Royal Exchange through the middle of the century, the rowdy behavior--itself to become something of a tradition on the market floor--of certain brokers led to their exclusion. Instead of leaving the business, these brokers began meeting at Jonathan's Coffee House and other coffee shops in the Threadneedle Street area of London. In 1760, some 150 brokers founded their own club to buy and sell stock at Jonathan's. The following decade, in 1773, the members of the club changed its name to the Stock Exchange. As the individual broker members of the Stock Exchange began to establish brokerage firms, and the number of markets expanded, the Stock Exchange saw a need for new quarters. In 1801, the Stock Exchange began construction on a new building at what was to become its permanent London location. The following year, the Stock Exchange published a Deed of Settlement, formally outlining the operating rules and procedures of the stock market. If the original joint-stock companies were formed to provide funding for the many voyages of discovery, overseas trading, and foreign military campaigns, the shareholder-based company structure showed itself easily adaptable to the changing economic landscape of the 19th century. The Industrial Revolution, coupled with such major infrastructure undertakings as the building of a national railroad system, provided the basis for the modern period of shareholder-b moreResolved Question: Have you noticed that even LDSers think 0bama and the Nobel Peace Prize Committee are mornons?

I also have been Student Youth Leaders in college, got select for an International Honor Society; and have over 27 credit hours in Accounting classes (I mention this because a lot of the government jobs require this). So my younger brother, who got lesser grades than me and never even graduated high school got hired in the Department of Defense and is making $41,000 a year, full benefits, and they paid for his move to Michigan. I applied later for the same job and had an interview a week and a half ago. I haven't heard back from them. I've been applying to other jobs with no luck. So what are my options here? I want to find a good job, I owe a ton of money in student loans and am off insurance and I think I have a cavity or two with my teeth. I'm starting to think I wasted all my money in college and that it all comes down to luck. So I ask you all, what sort of job should I be applying for? The so-called 287(g) program — named after the section of law that created it — should be limited to identifying illegal immigrants in state prisons and county jails and exclude any efforts to track them down outside of criminal investigations, the Southwest Border Task Force said. The proposal came as part of the group’s first report to the Homeland Security Advisory Council, which sought input in June from several border politicians, law enforcement officials, academics and business leaders. The task force presented 18 other proposals Wednesday on issues ranging from streamlining the border crossing process to ongoing cooperation with Mexican law enforcement. “Our goal is to get all of the Southwest border on the same playing field and draw out the realities on the border versus the rhetoric,” said Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño, the task force’s vice chairman. Civil rights and Hispanic groups have urged President Barack Obama’s administration in recent months to end the 287(g) program amid mounting evidence that some participating police departments have used the newly granted authority to justify racial profiling. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, whose jurisdiction includes unincorporated areas outside Phoenix, has been accused of targeting individuals for immigration review based solely on their appearance and is currently facing a U.S. Justice Department investigation into alleged civil rights violations stemming from his participation in the program. Treviño, a staunch critic of 287(g) in its current form, said Wednesday that assuming a role in enforcing federal immigration law distracts local authorities from their primary duties and can cause problems with illegal immigrants in their communities. “We do not want a repeat of what has happened in Maricopa County,” he said. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced during the summer that her department would review 287(g)’s scope. Since then, the number of participating law enforcement agencies has swelled to nearly 70. In addition to changing the 287(g) program, the Southwest Border Task Force also urged Wednesday that Homeland Security place more emphasis on recruiting customs agents for the nation’s land ports of entry. Although Congress has appropriated money to expand the ranks of the U.S. Border Patrol by 8,200 since 2006, hiring for customs agents has not kept pace. Homeland Security budgets for fiscal year 2009 included funds for 2,200 new Border Patrol agents but only 22 additional customs agents. Other task force recommendations include: >> Creating a White House office to coordinate approving applications for new border ports of entry such as the soon-to-open Anzalduas International Bridge in Mission. Currently, local entities must complete 13 steps before winning approval and deal with four government agencies outside of Congress and the White House. >> Adopting clear definitions for terms such as “spillover violence,” which the task force suggested should be narrowly defined as violence originating within a Mexican criminal organization that plays out north of the border. >> Setting up a federal government grant program that would routinely provide money to border-area law enforcement. Homeland Security is not bound to implement any of the recommended policy changes, but Treviño, the vice chair, said he is hopeful they will receive fair consideration. “If DHS — or any other federal law enforcement agency — is going to meet their mission, they are going to have to have the 100 percent cooperation of local law enforcement,” he said. “I think this is a good first step.” http://www.themonitor.com/articles/federal-31189-force-task.html moreResolved Question: Obama the Impotent - How can anyone say this about our president?
Obama the Impotent - The Disappointment with Barack Obama is Tangible – on Climate Change and Financial Reform Europe Leads While the US Lags Steven Hill Barack Obama's ability to strike a new course for the US following eight years of Bush administration unpopularity. Yet many in the US and abroad are impatient with the pace of progress under the Obama administration. The president made the rounds on five news talkshows on Sunday as he pressed his policies and vision, preparing for what is likely to be a difficult week. Besides the ongoing battle over healthcare, this week sees two showdowns between Europe and the US that will reveal further slippage in American global leadership. The first showdown comes today at a UN special session on climate change in New York City; the second will come at the end of the week at the G20 meeting in Pittsburgh, where America and Europe will butt heads over financial system reforms designed to ensure that the AIGs of the world can never again cause an economic collapse. Europe has been increasingly critical of America's failures to live up to its global responsibilities. The US is not only the world's largest emitter of greenhouse gases but is by far the largest per capita emitter of carbon and other pollutants. China comes close to the US in terms of total carbon emissions, but it has four times more people, who each belch far less individually. Europe, while having much the same high living standard, has an "ecological footprint" that is only half of America's, since Europe has taken leadership in implementing renewable technologies and conservation practices. On the campaign trail, Barack Obama promised to reverse the Bush administration's terrible ecological record. Yet so far the world has seen more symbolic gestures from the Obama administration than accomplishments. Its biggest achievement so far has been an example of disappointment. President Obama signed an executive order to increase US motor vehicle mileage standards – but only to a level that will push fuel efficiency by 2020 to a level that European and Japanese cars reached several years ago, and even China has already achieved. Europe has announced donations of $2bn to $15bn a year for the next decade to help developing nations cope with climate warming, yet the Obama administration has not offered anything close to that amount. Europe also wants binding, near-term targets for developed nations, proposing a 20% reduction from 1990 levels by 2020, or 30% if everyone agrees. The Bush administration of course rejected such targets – but now it looks like the Obama administration is not willing to go any further. It has said such targets should be voluntary but verifiable. With the US Senate is bogged down in the fight over reforming healthcare, American leaders have said that the senators might not move on climate legislation until 2010, well after the global climate change conference in Copenhagen in December. That drew a sharp response from John Bruton, head of the European Union delegation: "The United States is just one of the 190 countries coming to this conference," Bruton said, "but the United States emits 25% of all the greenhouse gases that the conference is trying to reduce. I submit that asking an international conference to sit around looking out the window for months, while one chamber of the legislature of one country deals with its other business, is simply not a realistic political position." Even Europe's conservative politicians, such as Connie Hedegaard, Denmark's minister of climate and energy, are expressing impatience: "It's rather crucial that the US can show a credible pathway," Hedegaard said, pointing out that the US emits twice as much carbon dioxide per capita as Denmark, without gaining anything in improving its quality of life. That's the start of President Obama's week. At the end of it, President Obama will appear at a meeting in Pittsburgh of the G20, a bloc of both developed and developing nations, representing 85% of the world's economic output and most of its population. On the table will be what reforms to help avoiding a repetition of the financial panic and global economic collapse that is perceived as having originated on Wall Street. Despite immense, taxpayer-financed rescue packages needed to overcome the crisis, the financial sector in the US is rapidly returning to business as usual. Indeed, three US banks – Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan – which received some $45bn of bailout aid, each paid billions of dollars more in bonuses in 2009 than they earned in 2008. Here again, Europe is leading, while the Obama administration is dragging its feet. Europe has proposed far-reaching reforms designed to impose new rules on executive pay and bonuses, requiring that banks link pay to long-term rather than short-term performance, and that they "claw back" any bonuses received in the face of losses. Or..."try and take my liberties, its not happening today tomorrow or ever" anyone? or am I by posting this comment deciding my own fate as a crazy person until we're all confined to our homes by armed military men? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hdv4Bv2F7Q0&feature=related CNN regional military http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuSMWzmheGE&feature=related This is a bill passed by the senate giving our government the right to force quarantine us, shut down businesses, enter homes at free will, restrict freedom of movement, among many other very ominous sounding things....all in writing of our government! yet unless I looked I would have never heard of this...you can find it by typing in bill 2028 on google http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kka3K4RqcjU <---this one's a little iffy its a video regarding a recent international summit that world leaders held in Washington DC to decide what would/will happen if the swine flu gets out of control. If you ask me but the document and pdf still exists and the conference did happen....up to your own speculation here is the pdf http://docs.google.com/gview?a=v&q=cache:ZpOH7E99BwAJ:www.new-fields.com/ISFC/brochure.pdf+international+swine+flu+conference+.pdf&hl=en&gl=us And that is the actual document which you can easily find on Google....like I said made your own conclusion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BW8yARUA3CQ <---this guy (Alex Jones) is really a little too radical but the beginning of the video is what counts. even though Alex Jones may be crossing a line....all his research is backed up :( see this is an issue.....look up the posse comitatus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posse_Comitatus_Act Our government is quite literally going to break the constitution....and even if you don't believe me....they already did :P Katrina 2005 They sent armed military men into New Orleans to use as law enforcement especially in the Astrodome....this is illegal. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/doc/2005-09/06/xin_46090206085237012461.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/doc/2005-09/06/content_475448.htm&usg=__skgnRAhCRP8ymsB2lGm6wQZtAYs=&h=287&w=350&sz=15&hl=en&start=5&um=1&tbnid=TrfKEYUHKukqSM:&tbnh=98&tbnw=120&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dkatrina%2Bmilitary%26hl%3Den%26um%3D1 So make up you're mind.....am I crazy? Am I a patriot? or maybe JUST MAYBE.....may I be on to something? PS: Don't forget to smile and nod when American Idol comes on....I mean after all it is WAY more important than losing your liberties......right? moreResolved Question: Is the Geological Society of America a partisan liberal organization?
It would appear to be so according to its latest official position statement on global warming. Below are some excerpts (taken from http://www.geosociety.org/positions/pos10_climateChange-DRAFT.pdf) Global climate has warmed by ~0.7 °C since the middle to late 1800s, and human activities (mainly greenhouse-gas emissions) account for most of the warming since the middle 1900s. If current trends continue, the projected increase in global temperature by the end of the twenty-first century will result in large negative impacts on humans and other life forms. Addressing the challenges posed by future anthropogenic warming will require a combination of national and international emissions reductions and adaptations to those changes that occur. GSA members are encouraged to take an active part in outreach activities to educate the public at all levels (local, regional, and national) about the science of global warming and the importance of geological research in framing policy development. Such activities can include organizing and participating in community school activities; leading discussion groups in churches or other civic organizations; meeting with local and state community leaders and congressional staffs; participating in GSA’s Congressional Visits Day; writing opinion pieces and letters to the editor for local and regional newspapers; contributing to online forums; and volunteering for organizations that support efforts to effectively mitigate and adapt to global climate change. GSA members are encouraged to discuss with businesses and policymakers the science of global warming, as well as the opportunities for transitioning from our predominant dependence on fossil fuels to greater use of low-carbon energies and energy efficiencies. GSA should actively engage and collaborate with other earth-science organizations in recommending and formulating national and international strategies to address impending impacts of anthropogenic climate change. moreTop International Business Leaders Links
