Hydra holds the reality TV Trump card

The Hydra Executives, the country's first English language foray into reality television, will see 16 candidates vying for a grand prize of $1 million (Dh3.67m). The show - being filmed in a style reminiscent of the hit American series, The Apprentice - is set against the UAE's real estate industry. The prize money will be used to fund the winner's property-related business plan within the country.

Conceptualised and hosted by the CEO of Hydra PropertiesHydra Properties, Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim, production has already begun in Abu Dhabi and the show will air in September on the Showtime Arabia network.

Middlecreek Industrial Golf League

Members of the Middlecreek Golf Course Monday Night Industrial League are anticipating the start of the 2008 season.The season will tee off on April 14 with a 5:15 p.m. shotgun start, weather permitting.

Other events planned for this season are first night of league play on April 21, league picnic on May 12, end of first-half play on June 16, team scramble and steak fry on June 23, corn roast on Aug. 11, end of second-half play on Aug. 25, championship playoffs on Sept. 3 and team scramble and end of season picnic on Sept. 8.

Struggling electronics retailer Circuit City Stores Inc. said Monday it is shrinking its home installation business in response to the nationwide slowdown in home construction. Over four months, Circuit City will cut 67 jobs of workers who prewire new single-family homes, spokesman Jim Babb said.

Delta again drops $10 fuel surcharge

Delta Air Lines Inc., the third- largest U.S. carrier, dropped a $10 round-trip fuel surcharge for the second week after other airlines didn't follow. Delta is raising fares and charging more for services such as a second checked bag to offset near-record fuel costs, which have supplanted labor as the biggest expense at many airlines.

San Antonio launches effort to recruit young manufacturing workers

The San Antonio Manufacturers Association will launch a new campaign next week aimed at convincing more young people to consider careers in manufacturing.

The "Dream It! Do It!" campaign is being backed by former San Antonio Mayor and CityView Chairman Henry Cisneros, Bob Buckley, director of manufacturing for Kinetic Concepts Inc. (NYSE: KCI), and Cox Manufacturing President Bill Cox.

Buckley is the chairman of the San Antonio Manufacturers Association and Cox is serving as the campaign chairman.

The association has planned a kickoff luncheon for Tuesday, April 1 at The Bright Shawl to discuss the campaign.

The reason why the organization is working to draw in more young people to the manufacturing sector is because local manufacturing companies are facing labor shortages. more
