On the day before Good Friday, John Weaver and David Paterson placed a call to Bay Street they'd been putting off for months. The forestry veterans knew their company, AbitibiBowater, was on the ropes, just months after a stunning merger. Hedge funds were circling, a creditor deadline was fast approaching and Prem Watsa - an investing legend when it comes to spotting distress - had let it be known he was ready to bail them out. It was time to deal . more
It's business as usual after officials close St. Cloud bridge
With light snow falling early in the morning, it was business as usual for many shops and restaurants along the Highway 23 Bridge detour route.
Lacie Gerads at Hourglass Cleaners said it was too early to tell how the closure could affect customers. The dry cleaner is located just blocks from the closed bridge. Gerads said she thinks the store will do well, despite the closure, because many of the customers come in on their way to and from work downtown. "One of our customers said that the bridge made it a little more difficult for him to make it in here, but he can still make it in so I know our good customers, our loyal customers will still make it in," said Gerads. . moreJapanese Business Confidence Hits 4 Year Low
A sharp deterioration in Japanese Business Confidence drove the Japanese Yen to a 2.5 week low against the US dollar.
The triple blow of slowing US growth, rising oil prices and a strong Yen forced businesses to become even more cautious about the outlook for the Japanese economy. Goldman Sachs argues that this pace is equal to the pace that was seen in the past recession. Although growth is deteriorating, there is still a next to zero chance of a rate cut from the Bank of Japan. Interest rates are already at 0.5 percent and the BoJ does not have significant room to ease monetary policy. Looking ahead, we expect the BoJ to become even more pessimistic about the outlook for growth, but as usual that may only have a limited impact on the Japanese Yen as risk appetite remains the currency’s dominant driver. more

Voting Question: Schedule C - Pre Business Loss - Supporting Documentation?
Hi, Our tax advisor is out of country. We are seeking your help and advise. IRS is examining our 2007 personal return. They asked us to send supporting documentation for Schedule C expenses we claimed: 1) Other Expenses 2) Vehicle Expenses To give you background, we were in Cleveland, Ohio and exploring for business opportunities in 2007. Initially, from Jan through May, we traveled to Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Columbus during weekends through some leads. Also we were looking for business through online websites and newspapers. In May, we had found a gas station for sale in about 20 miles from our place. We talked to the seller. Based on what he said, the business seemed promising so we wanted to purchase. He asked us to put a 10k deposit and so he can start training as we had no idea on gas station business. Also he indicated that it may take about 4 - 6 months to transfer ownership as its a name brand gas franchise. We believed his words and put a $10K deposit with a bill of sale agreement and started training and paperwork with the franchise to transfer ownership. We had gone to the franchise corporate office for interview and exams as well. The seller promised that we can get our deposit back if we back out or transfer process doesn't go through. From May through September we had training almost everyday. It seemed like business wasn't doing very well due to competition on the other corner. Before proceeding further (its already too late :-), we decided to go to a CPA and get his previous tax returns verified. We went to a local CPA, showed his tax papers, paid $75 towards consultation fee, she suggested not to buy the gas station as it had liabilities. Next day, we went to the seller and told him that we wanted to backout. He agreed to give our money back after few days. So went to him a few times. He said he can give in multiple payments, so he gave a check for $2,500. We deposited the check in a local bank but it was bounced. We tried sending emails, calling, and went in person. But he said he cannot give our money. We wanted to give him some time and try again. But he never gave our money back. When we were doing taxes for 2007, we explained all this to our tax advisor, he suggested to claim all this a pre business expenditure (loss) on a schedule C as follows: Other expenses: $10K (deposit lost) + $75 (CPA consultation fee) Vehicle expenses: all miles travelled However we do have check images to support other expenses. Also we do have vehicle service records avaialble to support the vehicle miles log (Dec 2006, Apr 2007, Dec 2007). IRS asked us to send completed business questionnaire plus vehicle information as well. We've all the information but not sure how to put all this together. Kindly suggest the approach. Sincerely, Ram & Yash moreResolved Question: I have posted my resume online. This is my first time. I am reciving alot of emails.?

It would appear to be so according to its latest official position statement on global warming. Below are some excerpts (taken from http://www.geosociety.org/positions/pos10_climateChange-DRAFT.pdf) Global climate has warmed by ~0.7 °C since the middle to late 1800s, and human activities (mainly greenhouse-gas emissions) account for most of the warming since the middle 1900s. If current trends continue, the projected increase in global temperature by the end of the twenty-first century will result in large negative impacts on humans and other life forms. Addressing the challenges posed by future anthropogenic warming will require a combination of national and international emissions reductions and adaptations to those changes that occur. GSA members are encouraged to take an active part in outreach activities to educate the public at all levels (local, regional, and national) about the science of global warming and the importance of geological research in framing policy development. Such activities can include organizing and participating in community school activities; leading discussion groups in churches or other civic organizations; meeting with local and state community leaders and congressional staffs; participating in GSA’s Congressional Visits Day; writing opinion pieces and letters to the editor for local and regional newspapers; contributing to online forums; and volunteering for organizations that support efforts to effectively mitigate and adapt to global climate change. GSA members are encouraged to discuss with businesses and policymakers the science of global warming, as well as the opportunities for transitioning from our predominant dependence on fossil fuels to greater use of low-carbon energies and energy efficiencies. GSA should actively engage and collaborate with other earth-science organizations in recommending and formulating national and international strategies to address impending impacts of anthropogenic climate change. moreResolved Question: My entire life is stuck in a rut - what should I do?
Help - I've been told I have "everything going for me" - I've been told I'm very good-looking, smart, talented, great personality, etc. . . But here I am, 25 years old; I've been working in a dead-end job for the past five months; I am grossly over-qualified for it (I have two B.A.s, both summa cum laude), making the yearly salary of a high school dropout, <$20,000/year, thanks recession. My college friends have all moved on, so I have no social network; nobody calls me anymore, when I go out at night, I'm almost always alone. 98% of my colleagues are over 35/married with children, so work provides no social opportunities. I've tried volunteering; at the last event I attended, I was the lone male among 17 retired women. Again: dead-end. And bars, bars, seriously, does anything worthwhile really ever begin in a damn bar? I try online dating: in the past two months, I've had my heart nearly smashed by a girl with borderline personality disorder, and as for the most recent girl? I took her out for an expensive dinner and dessert a couple nights ago; didn't get a single "thank you," and discovered at the end of the date that she didn't remember my name. <:|. I'm at a loss. I'm just about to lose my mind. I mean, right now, I'm sitting in a musty office, with horrible flourescent lighting, and after 7 years of college, I order business cards, and make car reservations for people. I have no friends to look forward to seeing after work, no girl to get excited about. I feel like I should have the world by the balls: I work hard, take great care of myself, I care about helping people, and my intentions are good. Sometimes I feel like some unseen cosmic force is just throwing punches at me for no reason except malice. I feel isolated, beaten down, and taunted, like some animal trapped in a dark box, unable to see, much less confront, its assailants. I'm not a naturally depressive/depressed guy, but for God's sake, I feel like I've got crap coming at me from every angle. I feel like a living ghost, like somebody who is here, but not really. It's killing me, probably in every sense of the word. What should I do? I need opportunities to lead, to take initiative, to learn, and to meet people my own damn age, and become a bona fide fully formed "me." What should I do? moreResolved Question: homemaker wants legitimate way to earn income online?

Hi, as an ambitious and adventurous online entrepreneur with a charismatic character of an enthusiastic people's person (easily approaching and getting along with people from all walks of life), I have been lately thinking of seriously cashing in on trying to source leads for local businesses (trades) in order to sell it to them in return for a commission. First of all, I would like to kindly ask you how I could find out on potential leads sourcing opportunities or where I should look out for in order to find specific leads for some of my local businesses or trades like cleaners, decorators, plumbers, etc. And, perhaps more importantly how to find out what kind of businesses or trades are now desperately looking for their prospective customers or leads? Is there any place on the internet where I could get these leads or I need to create my own ways of sourcing the leads? I would greatly appreciate it if we could chat more in details later either via Skype or phone with a possibility to also meet up in London at mutual convenience. In advance Many Thanks! I got this email, and a few others, in my school email address. I don't know whether it's real or not because things do exist like this...Like today in class we filled out a survey on an ad a company was going to run after researching how it affected people. (Although we did not get paid for that one, we just get extra credit for the class it was in) Also, my roomie has been getting some emails too. We are both in the Recording Industry program which is part of Mass Communications so advertising IS an area close to our area. Here's exactly what the email says... Sincerely, Carla Baker " I looked to see if "Carla Baker" went to MTSU (the school I go to) and she isn't in the system...Not that that means a lot..but still lol. What's your opinion on it? Thanks for your answers!*UPDATE* I posted this question a few minutes after I read the last email (the one I posted) and I still have no reply. I guess I'll wait a few days and see if they ever reply. If not I guess it is a scam. Although, like one answer said...it does take time so they would be willing to pay a little at least. lol. So who knows, thanks for answering though!*UPDATE #2* Some girl was standing in the middle of a courtyard thing with a sign mentioning doing surveys, and was being recording. I think it was for the MTSU tv channel....But I still have not heard anything from the person who emailed me. moreResolved Question: Need Solid Ideas for a Home-based Business?

Parents are the best teachers when it comes to their children’s careers. For generations, our parents have been taught to go straight to college after high school, in hopes of landing the perfect job. That has been the so called “American Dream” for far too long, and parents are implementing that same mentality in their children’s lives. Attending college is the smart choice; however parents should show their children that there is more to life than having the perfect job, and my parents did an immaculate job showing me. They have constantly lectured me on the importance of becoming a successful entrepreneur, and one day establishing my own businesses. The number one lesson they taught me is that I could never become wealthy as an employee. I truly appreciated the fact that I was given a different outlook on the real world because I have taken their guidance and used it to my advantage. Just by knowing this information, I have been able to start a business in e-commerce, invest in the stock market, and even receive my real estate license. Of all the industries that I have been introduced too, I believe that real estate has interested me the most. When I was about sixteen years old, my parents introduced me to the business of real estate sales. They would always take me to local real estate seminars and investment clubs hosted by some of the most renowned real estate entrepreneurs in the country, such as Donald Trump and Hilary "Zig" Ziglar. At that time, it was hard for me to appreciate the opportunity to even be allowed in theses events, but as I got older I understood why my parents took me with them. They just wanted me to be in the environment of other successful entrepreneurs. After understanding their intentions, I began to enjoy the seminars. From that moment on, I dressed professionally and carried a notebook to every seminar. I learned a lot from attending the real estate investor meetings, and I was eager to share in their success. The first job they gave me was to be their assistant. I became responsible for various tasks such as; confirming appointments with clients, and reviewing and completing listing, purchase, and lease contracts. Furthermore, I assisted with lead generating via direct mail, door to door advertising, along with online marketing using Top Producer (a real time lead generating and contact management database), Facebook and MySpace. Once I turned eighteen, I was eligible to become a licensed real estate agent, so in the summer of 2007, I enrolled at the Long and Foster Institute. I successfully completed the course, and received my real estate license. Since becoming licensed, I affiliated with Keller Williams Realty. At the end of the day, everything I learned from my parents benefited me as I got older. As an alternative of being an employee for the rest of my life, I have what it takes to establish my own businesses and provide a bright future for my family. If not, how can I improve it? What can the second paragraph be aboutIt has to be 250- 500 words... Hello, I would like to make a brief introduction about myself. I am the lead singer/vocalist in a rock/pop band, The Embezzles, (name have been changed quite a few times within the past few months)and we’re very similar to Paramore and Linkin Park. We’re sort of a big deal in East Texas with an increasing fan base which continues to grow expendably great but we have a big problem communicating and contacting fans. We’ve tried everything from Post Office boxes, Private Mailboxes and social networking sties. Unfortunately, the Postal Services are on shaky ground. Postal Services have rules and regulations to combat mail fraud and other crimes committed using postal and private mailboxes which sounds convincing but the postal services are on the wrong side here. Rather than protecting privacy they are seeking to invade it and rather than allowing some consumer choice they are looking to stifle what little competition exists. Unfortunately, scam artists also utilize the convenience of private mailboxes to hide illegal activities, such as credit card fraud, identity theft and schemes to swindle the elderly. In other words or simple terms, P.O. boxes and Private Mailboxes are growing concerns of the postal services used in order to single out P.O. boxes and PMB(private mailboxes) who have personal accounts instead of business accounts. We would like to have an address rather than using one of our own physical home address because you guys are aware of fans(groupies) can be a bit psychotic at times when bands are in the limelight destined for stardom. Instead of selling merchandise, passing out flyers, etc. from our tour van/hotel (lol) J, we decided that we want to be able to reach fans outside of our 100 mile radius giving fans the opportunity to write personal letters to one our band members, pics or whatever the fans want to give their favorite band (The Embezzles ) <<<<<promotion tactic>>>>>,in order to converse on numerous occasions, but we do not want to give the government or postal office or any carrier service speculations or any misleading ideas that we are subjecting to a scheme to earn money or somehow get personal information from individuals. All we want is to build a connection with our fans in order to solidify our relationships to remind them of upcoming tour dates, nearby performances, or any updates we might have in order to refresh the memories of our fans. We were recommended on some international mail forwarding service sites but getting an international P.O. or Private box seems a little suspect, wouldn’t you agree? Although they offer great services they only require your personal information….sometimes to much information. I have scavenged many postal services sites and some websites seem a bit puzzling. Even though they have U.S. Postal Forms and identification requirements they false advertise and some sites even have numerous complaints from previous customers. If I were to come across one of these misleading websites how would I be able to recognize a true and faithful postal or forwarding service from any other website posing as a legit mail forwarding service? ASD Cash Generator is a "profit/revenue- share" type internet advertising company that allows you to generate money by viewing websites. I'm using ASD to advertise 5 of my sites and have received real traffic and leads from it. Each day a paid member views ads, they get a share in the profits of the company paid directly to their accounts until the member pockets 25% more than they spent. At the time of this writing, their current daily interest rate has been averaging about 0.50% - 2% per day, and is primarily based on the total the number of ad package sales for the previous day. The daily rebate rate will vary and is not fixed. All you have to do is view 24 web sites each day for 15 seconds each to receive your daily rebate that equals to about 6 minutes. Who's running the show? The company was founded over a year ago by CEO, Andy Bowdoin. In doing my due diligence and searching over 9 pages of information on Google on him (all positive), I found that he has quite an extraordinary reputation, not only as a career Advertising man, but as a man of exceptional integrity. He has over 40 years experience in sales and marketing, and has had success in everything he's done. He started his sales career working with the Dale Carnegie Courses in the early sixties and later worked with the Napoleon Hill Leadership Program. Andy has trained thousands of sales people during his career and started several companies. He expanded a 60-minute dry cleaning franchise throughout the Southeast and Midwest. He developed a company that sold wireless communication franchises throughout the U.S. and then started a company to market credit card processing for merchants. In 1999, Andy did research and discovered a need for GPS Tracking for fleet vehicles and GPS Tech was created. In 2006, Andy again saw a new opportunity - the need for a new way to deliver advertising to the masses and Ad Surf Daily, Inc. was born. He modified his marketing strategies for the internet and attracted over 5,000 members in 120 days and sold over $1,200,000 in services. He now teaches his ASD members his strategies to help them build their internet businesses. ASD has a physical office located in Quincy Florida, a state of the art online support ticketing system and real telephone support where customer service reps handle all support questions or inquiries. One of the big perks with this program is they have an account with Bank of America where you can make direct deposits. They withstood a rigorous Verification Process (common sense will tell you Bank of America doesn't do business with scams). * Sustainable Payout Structure, NO guarantee of earnings in a set time. * Daily Payouts fluctuate with daily sales - true Profit Sharing, NOT a Ponzi. * Daily sales posted each day with your exact payout percentage. * Zero Cost Membership. * Structured like a REAL business with CEO, Executive Officers, Chief Administrator * Full information on CEO, not some 'anonymous' admin How is the company revenue distributed? The ASD Cash Generator business plan pays 50% of all daily ad buys back to the advertisers, 15% in referral commissions (on two levels) and 25% for expenses and corporate profits. By never paying out more than they take in, ASD will never encounter the cash-flow problems that have plagued other paid-to-surf programs. You'll receive a variable percentage daily of that 50% revenue, for surfing 24 sites daily, until you reach 125% of your ad purchase (25% profit), and then you'll re-cycle. Members in the US are sent 1099s for any net profits (not advertising purchases) earned each year from ASD, but you can write off anything you purchase in advertising packages, and in turn, save money on your taxes! Note: ASD Cash Generator is actually the 3rd get-paid-to-surf type program Andy has created. The first two programs were discontinued last year due to programming script problems. All the previous members had their balances transferred over to the new restructured ASD Cash Generator program or were refunded. ASD Cash Generator launched in July 2007. Speak Spanish? ASD also has a Spanish version of the English ASD website for those wishing to either view Spanish-based websites or know people who would like to earn money surfing a Spanish site. It's set to be available for surfing and advertising in the beginning of February. No sponsoring or recruiting is required, but for those that wish to refer others to ASD, they have a referral program that pays up to a 10% commission from the ad credits purchased that you personally refer, and up to a 5% commission from the ad credits of those referred by your direct referrals for a total of 15% total referral commission paid on 2 levels. What's the maximum number of Ad Packages I can purchase? Twelve thousand (12000). Ad Packages are $1.00 each, so the maximum you can own at any one time is $12,000 USD. ASD requires that you have a product, service, program or opportunity that includes a web site to advertise in order to be an advertiser. Note: If you don't have a website to advertise, you can contact me for one to use. 3 Membership Levels: (Optional monthly subscription) You can join ASD for FREE to advertise your site, or you can upgrade and advertise your business and earn cash-back rebates at the same time. The free membership will always be there and advertisers can get FREE advertising by viewing other web sites on the ASD Cash Generator Web Site. An advertiser can pay a monthly membership fee and reduce cash out fees, increase referral commissions and decrease the number of sites to view on a daily basis. The amount of your monthly membership fee determines the number of times you can cash out each week, the amount of your referral commissions and the number of sites you must view each day to receive your rebates. Monthly Memberships: * $10 per mo. fee = Cashout on Mondays Only and 5% referral commission for 1st level and 3% on 2nd level, * $25 per mo. fee = Cashout on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays and 7% referral commission for 1st level and 4% on 2nd level, * $100 per mo. fee = Exec. VIP Plan, Cashout DAILY and 10% referral commission on 1st level and 5% on 2nd level. Special Promotion through Tuesday, January 22, 2008. If you purchase $500 - $999 in Ad Package purchases, you'll receive 3 month Exec. VIP membership level upgrade. For $1,000- $1,999 in Ad Package purchases, you'll receive 6 months Exec. VIP membership level, and for $2000 or more in Ad Package purchases, you'll receive 1 year Exec. VIP membership level upgrade. Do I have to pay a membership fee? No. If you just want to be a passive member in ASD and receive cash back rebates from your ad purchases, you don't need to pay a monthly membership fee. It's primarily for people who choose to refer other advertisers or want to increase the frequency that they can withdraw their profits. If you don't pay a membership fee and you decide to refer others (optional), you'll be paid a 3% referral commission on all of your personal referrals only. What payment processors are available? Currently Alert Pay, Solid Trust Pay ,direct deposit into Bank of America account, cashier checks and mail in money order. Soon to come will be an International Debit card What happens if I'm unable to view and rate websites on any given day? If you miss a day and you're unable to view and rate ads (for any reason) you don't lose anything, it just freezes and extends the time line until you come back. Personal opinion: From everything I've researched, Andy Bowdoin is a man of integrity who does what he says he's going to do. He has a rock-solid business plan and experience based on verifiable and publicly available information. Everything is very transparent. His business model is a win win for everyone and very lucrative for both passive and active members. Advertisers who simply want to be sure their website get seen, get exactly what they pay for. Entrepreneurs who want a passive way of growing their money, get the ability of doing so for simply viewing ads daily. They get quality prospects visiting their websites which will ultimately turn into sign ups, sales, or more business partners. You can get a 25% bonus on your advertising dollars spent for simply investing 10 minutes per day to view others sites. So if you purchase $1,000 in advertising from ASD, you'll get paid daily until you receive $1,250 back. It doesn't matter if you purchase an ad for $10 or $500... if you do nothing else but view ads, the results are the same and you'll eventually earn 125% of what you spend (25% net profit). If you look at their Alexa traffic ranking in the chart below, you'll see that there's tremendous momentum with this program right now. Here's how to sign up: 1. Click on this link: http://www.asdcashgenerator.com/?ref=20470, read the FAQ and Terms & Conditions, etc., then click on the link right under the top banner that says "Sign-up." To become an Upgraded (paid) advertiser, first click on Signup on the Home Page and become a Free Member. 2. When you join as a free member, you'll be sent a welcome email. Some email carriers such as AOL, Bellsouth, Yahoo and others will treat our emails as spam. Check your Spam folder to see if it ended up there. If you didn't get the email you may want to go to Google and get a free gmail account, otherwise you won't be getting any emails from ASD because they'll be blocked. 3. After you sign up, log in to your back office on the bottom left of the Home Page. Click Login and that will take you to your Account Overview Page. Look to the right of Account Level and you will see (upgrade level) in blue. Click on upgrade level and it'll take you to your Upgrade Account Page. Select your payment processor and insert the dollar amount of ad packages you want to purchase. Ad packages are $1.00 each. If you want $100 of ad packages put 100 in the window. Click upgrade. Your purchase should show up on your Account Overview Page to the right of Current Upgrade Purchase. You can pay by credit card by calling the home office at 850-627-2206. 4. Once your account is funded and you've purchased your ad packages, click on the START SURFING link on the left hand side and do your viewing each day moreResolved Question: Is this job offer a SCAM?

this is the messageDear Sir/Madam, This letter may come to you as a surprise due to the fact that we have not yet met. I could have notified you about it at least for the sake of your integrity. But please accept my sincere apologies. I am Mrs. Rebeca Thambo , the wife to late Morgan Thambo the former Minister of Land and Agriculture in Zimbabwe, who was assassinated on the 18th of January 2005 by some of President Robert Mugabes aides. I managed to get your contact (email) details through your Country Online services here in Johannesburg South Africa in my desperate search for a trustworthy person to assist me in this confidential business. My late husband, Morgan Thambo urges President Robert Mugabe to hand over the power or he my husband will resign after the much talked about Land Reform Policy that denies white farmers their farm land which my husband highly opposed. After my husbands official resignation on the 16th of January2005, President Robert Mugabe, sent his aides police to beat up my husband in our home which lead to my husbands death. My late husband, Morgan Thambo made some deposit in a Security Company in the Republic of South Africa for purchasing of Farm Equipments amounting to US$22.7 MILLIONS (Twenty Two Millions, Seven Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) in cash. This amount of money was transferred into South Africa through diplomatic channels. After his death, I and my son being in Johannesburg , South Africa , decided to transfer the money out side the shores of South Africa for my family use since it is the only money that my family can lay hand on and I have all the original depositary documents of the money that was kept in a Security Company. My son and I are currently living in Johannesburg while waiting for an appeal lodged by a lawyer on our behalf to the Department of Home Affairs, for our refugee status application. We are having it difficulty in operating any type of bank transaction for the transfer of the money as the South African monetary policy is not favorable to people like us ((refugee) who have no permanent residence status. In acknowledgment of executive powers and the various business opportunities in your country, I am requesting your assistance in helping me transfer this money into your personal or business account. After the transfer is accomplished, my son and I will then follow you for subsequent investments in your Country. For your assistance in this transaction, I offer you 30% of the total sum for compensation. And all other expenses you incur during this operation will be credited to you. Please do not hesitate to contact me or my son. All documents concerning this transaction will be made available to you for your safety and as a proof that this money is not from any criminal origin. I must then emphasize that this operation/transaction is highly confidential and is to be kept as such. Kindly provide me with your full names, private phone and address or you can call on this my phone number for more details. {+27730987182} or email my son. What Do You Think ? Please Help ! ( Year 10 Coursework)?
It could be argued that the internet is the best technical development of our time. Since its creation in the late sixties, it has quickly become an important and beneficial piece of modern technology to millions of people all over the world. It is a global computer network, which provides a variety of facilities for communication, information and entertainment. With simple and immediate access to endless websites, available with just a click of a mouse, it may seem that surfing the net is the perfect cure for boredom. On the contrary, many people find themselves questioning this positive attitude towards the World Wide Web, when considering the risks and disadvantages that it brings, and the dangers that anyone may encounter whilst online. Amongst the most popular sites are social networks, such as ’Facebook’ and ‘Netlog’, where users have their own page within the network, and can communicate with each other no matter where in the world they are. People of any age, race or background can use these sites, which means you can talk to all sorts of people and learn about hundreds of different cultures and lifestyles. This is a great way to meet new friends or keep in touch with your old ones. ‘MySpace’ is a network where accounts and home pages are created by users, and pictures, music, blogs (online diaries) and videos can be uploaded. Bands, venues, individuals or even companies may have their own ‘MySpace’ and therefore you are sure to find something of interest amongst the thousands of accounts. ‘Msn Messenger’, the instant messaging service, is probably the most popular way for web users to stay in contact and have free, live conversations with any number of people. This means it is possible for many disabled internet users to talk amongst friends, without the trouble of leaving the house or the high expense of using the telephone. The disadvantage of this way of communicating is the lack of trust available between members, due to the fact that there is no sure way of knowing exactly whom you are talking to. People can lie about their identity, particularly their age, and paedophiles and stalkers may use the sites as easy access to their victims. Adults may lure children into thinking they are other children of a similar age and might convince them into meeting up with them in the outside world. This is called grooming and has been known to lead onto kidnappings, rape and violent attacks. Innocent youths may also fall victims to people of their own age, when accounts are hacked and abuse can be written through fake identities. It seems easier for teenagers to emotionally and mentally bully children of their own age whilst online, without the full contact of face-to-face conversation in real-life. Hateful messages can be sent through instant messaging, emails and even comment boxes on websites or someone’s personal page. This cyber bullying is a huge issue online and children can often feel unsafe within their own homes if they are suffering this abuse. Social networks may also have an addictive affect on users meaning they interact a lot less with friends and family. Users may even be left lacking the skills to have real conversations with people, without being able to hide behind a computer screen and keyboard. Then again, there is also the isolation that people who do not have internet access may face. They are unable to stay in touch with friends in the way that so may people take for granted. However, a final advantage of these social networking sites is that they are an advertisers dream. Businesses can easily advertise online, and popular sites such as these social networking ones are a huge opportunity to attract customers. Children, adults, parents and people of different professions and interests can be specifically targeted through certain websites, which are suited to them, in order to attract the most potential customers. A good example of this is through search engines, which make their money by displaying advertisements within the results of what the internet user has searched. Of course businesses can use the internet to their advantage in many other ways also. Records and databases can be held on the internet, and secured and accessed through passwords. The stock exchange can be viewed online and companies can check in on their competition by simply searching for them on the internet. They can research customer demand , or keep in touch with buyers, employees and other businesses via email or their own webpage .Finally, websites like ‘Monster’, which is an online directory where employees upload their CV’s, allow employers to find the most suitable staff, without having to hold hundreds of interviews. Another way in which the internet is highly useful is through its vast range of entertainment available. This entertainment can mean that it is no longer necessary to leave your seat in order to have fun, and therefore hundreds of people have a significant lack of exercise, which of course is a health risk. This has been linked to the increasing problem of obesity in both children and adults. On the other hand, the vast sources of entertainment are a major plus to millions of internet surfers. Video upload sites prove to be very popular with hundreds of thousands of viewers visiting Youtube everyday. Anyone can upload anything they like onto these sites from TV series, to homemade short films, music videos and any other creations. It is a great way to watch and create video blogs and learn about other people from across the world. It could even be said that the internet is better than a remote control. Online gaming is another aspect of the internet to enjoy. Hundreds of free games are available to download and play with genres to suit everyone. Puzzle, adventure, racing and even multiplayer games can be accessed quickly through many websites, the majority are free and simple to download or play though a flash player. Downloading is relied on by many people so that they can have the latest songs and films stored to their own computer and then sent to their phone or personal music and video players (Ipods or MP4s). ‘Limewire’ is a program that allows millions of files to be shared across the net and almost anything can be downloaded quickly and simply from this free source. This can mean that the artists and producers of songs are missing out on profits that they deserve. All this freedom of viewing on the net can be dangerous when there are no age restrictions. Youths may be badly influenced by violent images they see online, and unsuitable pornographic material is easily accessible to them at the click of a mouse. Most adults would agree that this needs to be more carefully regulated, but it is highly unlikely that age restrictions would ever prevent teenagers from intentionally viewing these sites, when they can simply type in a false age. This easy accessibility throughout the internet can be useful though when referring to educational purposes. Students have many websites available that are dedicated to encourage and enable studying, revision and coursework. BBC Bitesize in particular is a useful website which pupils of Key stage three and Key Stage four can use to assist them in learning. Teachers can also benefit from the online lesson plans on offer throughout the net and students can stay in touch with their tutors through email whenever necessary. The internet can also be considered as a brilliant learning aid because of its huge volumes of information covering endless varieties of subjects; it could be thought of as the biggest encyclopaedia in the world. Information that is usually unobtainable in local libraries is easily reached through search engines and students can read expert knowledge from specialists in the topic they need. Never the less there are still negative aspects to using the internet this way. It makes it possible for pupils to copy and cheat on tests and coursework using past essays and work that someone has uploaded onto the web previously. Some learners may become dependent on using the internet for help with their work and not able to perform as well under exam conditions in school. Some information gained from websites may be seriously outdated or inaccurate and therefore useless. There is also an unfair advantage on students that do no have internet access at home. Shopping online is another great way of taking advantage of the World Wide Web. You can purchase anything from a huge assortment of products from anywhere in the world; from clothes, gifts, memorabilia and anything else that you could possibly want. It’s the ultimate shopping experience, and shops you can find on the high street have their own online stores along with shops only available on the net. It is a much simpler way of browsing for whatever you may be looking for, without the bother of busy crowds. There are also often online discounts available, or some items sold on the internet are originally cheaper than on the high street anyway, and comparing prices online is easily done. Being able to shop online makes a big difference in peoples lives if they are disabled or seriously ill. Being housebound means that they do not get the chance to visit the supermarket or their local city centre on a regular basis, like so many people do, but that problem has been solved with home delivery. Anything they might buy off the internet can probably be delivered straight to their doorstep, whether it’s their weekly shop or something they’ve splashed out on. ‘Ebay’ is a massively successful online auction site where you can bid on items which other people are selling through the website. All you need is an online account and then you can start buying and selling pretty much what ever takes your fancy. You can make money by selling unwanted pieces in your home or save money by striking lucky in an auction, and having the winning bid on your requested item. However, things that you see on the internet may not always turn out to be what you expected when they arrive at your home. What you have bought may have been misrepresented online and you could be left disappointed with something you have no use of. It is also common to overspend without realising when buying online. Paying for goods via the internet is only possible by using a credit card and sometimes this means that you are not as aware of exactly how much money you are parting with, if you do not physically hand it over. Even more unfortunate is that your card details may not be secure and someone else could use your bank account without you knowing. Although using the internet is an essential aspect to many people’s lives, it does prove to have risks and consequences if used inappropriately or too often. Still, I have to disagree with the statement of “the internet is a monster out of control” because I find that the pros out weigh the cons by far. Without the internet certain aspects of life would prove difficult to me and millions of other people. The web is relied on everyday for purposes of work, school and play and as long as we approach it with more knowledge of the dangers, it can benefit us the many ways that it is intended to. moreResolved Question: Where to sell my business opportunity leads?

MILWAUKEE, Dec. 26, 2006 – Metavante Corporation today announced it is the first certified and first operational processor supporting reload transactions on a leading international card association's prepaid card load network. Metavante is the banking and payments technology subsidiary of Marshall & Ilsley Corporation (NYSE: MI). On Dec. 4, 2006, the card association issued a news release in which it stated the prepaid load network allows consumers to add funds to eligible re-loadable prepaid cards at participating retail locations. According to the announcement, the service has been introduced at more than 1,550 retail locations nationwide including participating Safeway, Carrs, Dominick's, Genuardi's, Pak 'n Save, Pavilions, Randalls, Vons and Tom Thumb stores. Processing reload transactions allows Metavante to help prepaid card issuers, such as financial institutions, realize the full potential of the checking account alternative that enables electronic payment card transactions for the un- and under-banked population. As Metavante helps make it easier for cardholders to reload eligible prepaid cards at convenient retail locations, a financial institution can benefit from increased card use, promote its brand with un- and under-banked consumers to potentially develop a traditional banking relationship, and gain wallet-share of a consumer otherwise out of reach. "Without convenient reload, prepaid cards have largely been disposable, which limits their ability to act as a full-service alternative to a checking account and the accompanying payment cards," said Frank D'Angelo, group president, Metavante Payment Solutions. "Marrying expedient reload to prepaid cards creates the opportunity for people without a traditional banking relationship to carry a full-fledged payment card that's arguably as easy to reload as a checking account." According to a recent Celent payments industry analyst report: "There are an estimated 14 million un-banked households in the U.S…and [prepaid debit] holds value because it stands to capture segments of the market other electronic payments [credit and debit] could not otherwise touch. This is particularly the case among the un-banked and youth populations that have limited access to such accounts." 1 "Every year card-based payments chip away at the market share of cash and checks and the advent of online shopping and electronic payments has accelerated that trend. By supporting an easier way to reload prepaid cards, Metavante helps open the world of online transactions to consumers such as teens, who often have disposable income to spend," added D'Angelo. "Metavante offers the most comprehensive suite of payment solutions and as evidenced by our support of prepaid reload, we continue to provide and support the newest payment technologies." About Metavante Metavante Corporation delivers banking and payments technologies to financial services firms and businesses worldwide. Metavante products and services drive account processing for deposit, loan and trust systems, image-based and conventional check processing, electronic funds transfer, consumer healthcare payments, and electronic presentment and payment. Headquartered in Milwaukee, Metavante (www.metavante.com) is wholly owned by Marshall & Ilsley Corporation (NYSE: MI). 1 Celent, "The Future of Consumer Payments," Nov. 2006, Ariana-Michele Moore, Senior Analyst. moreResolved Question: I have an investors network. How do I get people that are interested in it. There are great returns.?
Ok I need some feedback/participation on a project I’m about to start. I’ve been working on it for a few months. I want to start an investment network/ many other things. I want to make sure its safe for the investors. I’ve come up with several concepts to make it work. I’m a website marketer. I see so many sites online up for sale that people can’t buy on their on. I think if we get a few (100 or so) people to invest money but also partake in the business this could work. That is only if the investor wants to. With my expertise in marketing and the combined efforts of all the investors this can be an enormous venture that flourishes. I think the key to getting people to invest is making sure they want loose or be scammed out of their money. On the other hand a little off topic, there is the auto surf market. (This is just to prove a point) The autosuf industry is still going very strong. People invest thousand of dollars in the market. They never know what can happen to their money. Yet they continue to invest. There are many incidences where the owner runs off with everyone’s money and nothing can be done. For those of you who don’t know what the auto surf market is here is an example. You get paid 12% for 12days. In the end that’s 144% return 44% profit. So if you invest $1000 you get 1444 back in like 18-20days because of processing time. Everyone knows it will crash. They don’t know when it will. I don’t recommend this industry, because it’s very risky. The point I’m trying to make is there should be enough people out there that can actually invest in something that there is almost a 0% chance of loosing money and a 100% chance of gaining. I’m not going to ask anyone for any money up front. I think we should build a base of people willing to invest first. Then we all can decide what to invest in. With me leading the process. The opportunities to pursue are endless. I have tons more information on this. I’ve already gotten a few friends ready to go. Here is what I need. Talented people to design, budget, help market, writers… Most of all the investors From people investing $10-100 to people investing $1000 and up. I’d be happy to speak with anyone over MSN/email or the phone. Or even in person if you’re in the area. I live in South Georgia. moreResolved Question: I have a new new investment network.
