Business class (almost) all the way

We booked a flight to Europe in business class using 180,000 award miles, and we've just learned that some of our flights will be in economy class. We need your help.

My husband, Richard, is retiring this year and we have been saving our American Airlines miles for a trip to Europe. It was important for us to fly in business class because my husband is a big man and is not at all comfortable in economy class.

Weather Eye: Boris was spin, Bertha means business

But Bertha has meant business and blew up quite suddenly.

Boris and Bertha were some of the earliest tropical storms of the new hurricane season. Boris erupted in the Pacific way off the western coast of Mexico and died out without causing any damage. But Bertha has been something of a surprise. She formed last Thursday near the Cape Verde islands off the coast of West Africa, and set a new record for the farthest east that a tropical storm has formed in July, only a month into the hurricane season.

On Monday Bertha rapidly erupted into a powerful Category 3 hurricane, packing winds of 190km/h (120mph). The storm is moving across the mid-Atlantic and could threaten Bermuda by Saturday, although the US is expected to escape unscathed.

However, the appearance of the first Atlantic hurricane this early in the year is unusual. more

Business Insurance Lead Questions asked

Resolved Question: How did we let this happen?

OK all you political freaks out there... Conservatives on the right. Liberals on the left. How did we let this happen? Let's look at some of our fearless leaders... Let's start with the Bush's. Three generations of Bush's have funded and helped bring to power America's enemies, and then made more money and power beating them back down again. Prescott Bush (GWB's granddaddy) helped to fund Hitler both before and during WWII through the Union State Bank. He was even brought up on charges of trading with the enemy. He was given a slap on the wrist and a decade later he was elected senator. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2004/sep… George Herbert Walker Bush authorized a series of programs that not only armed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein but also provided him with technology that assisted in his development of chemical weapons like Sarin gas, and biological weapons. Wall Street Journal has reported (Sept. 28, 2001) that, "George H.W. Bush, the father of President Bush, works for the bin Laden family business in Saudi Arabia through the Carlyle Group, an international consulting firm." The senior Bush had met with the bin Laden family at least twice in the last three years - 1998 and 2000 -- as a representative of Carlyle, seeking to expand business dealings with one of the wealthiest Saudi families, which some experts argue, has never fully severed its ties with black sheep Osama in spite of current reports in a mainstream press that is afraid of offending the current administration. Now let's look at Obama. Is Obama a Communist? Let's look at who he was raised by, who his friends are, and who he has in his cabinet.... Barack Obama Sr. (Dad) *Communist who saw nothing wrong with government 'taxing 100%' so long as the people got benefits... *Nairobi bureaucrat who advised government to 'redistribute' income through higher taxes *Demonized corporations *Abandoned Barack Obama Jr. when he was 2 years old to continue at Harvard (teaching son that ideology is more important than family) Stanley Ann Dunham (Mom) *Communist sympathizer *Practiced 'critical theory' (aka Marxism) *Influenced by Nietzsche and Freud *Left Hawaii for Indonesia, Pakistan *Attended a leftist church nicknamed the 'little red church' because of its Communist sympathies *Left Barack Obama Jr. Mentor *Barack's grandparents introduced Barack Obama Jr. to poet and communist Frank Marshall Davis *Davis becomes a mentor as young Barack struggled with abandonment by parents College & Church *Admittedly sought out 'Marxist' professors http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4EHmzslK… *Admittedly attended 'socialist conferences' http://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/TW… *Began attending a Marxist church - led by pastor Jeremiah Wright (attended for 20 years) Career *Tragedy of the Warren Court: No redistributive change *Voted for TARP *$787 billion stimulus redistribution bill *Healthcare bill admittedly about 'redistributing the wealth' *President Obama now also President of GM & Chrysler *President Obama seizes control of insurance giant AIG *President Obama is leading America to single payer healthcare *President Obama seized control of Student Loan industry in order to 'cut out middle man' *Repeatedly vilifies 'the rich' *Obama believes race problems can be solved through redistribution of wealth... he said "race is still an enormous factor in our society. But economics can overcome a lot of racial division." *Trying to regulate the Internet via FCC *Forces mortgage co's to cover people who aren't paying mortgage *Extends unemployment benefits to 99 weeks *Told Joe the plumber 'it's better when you spread things around' Family, Friends, Advisors & Administration *Wife Michelle Obama said “The truth is, in order to get things like universal health care and a revamped education system, then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more.” *Jim Wallis, Obama's spiritual advisor & forced redistribution of wealth advocate *Van Jones, disgraced Green Jobs Czar & Communist *Ron Bloom, Manufacturing Czar & anti-free market *John Holdren, pro-redistribution of wealth *Andy Stern, SEIU President & redistribution of wealth fan *Anita Dunn, fan of Chairman Mao Is this the best we have to offer? Do these people represent mainstream America??Sorry. Resolved Question: Do YOU know what new taxes and expenses are coming your way starting in Jan 2011?

You know what I don't see in here? An exemption for all the people making LESS than 250K... Apparently all this is going to affect everyone ,regardless of income level. Is my health insurance from work REALLY income? That is going to definitely raise my taxes...Where's Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi when we need them? Remember Nancy saying they had to PASS THE BILL BEFORE WE KNEW what was in it? excerpt... In just four months, on January 1, 2011, the largest tax hikes in the history of America will take effect. They will hit families and small businesses in three great waves. On January 1, 2011, here's what happens... (read it to the end, so you see all three waves)... First Wave: Expiration of 2001 and 2003 Tax Relief In 2001 and 2003, the GOP Congress enacted several tax cuts for investors, small business owners, and families. These will all expire on January 1, 2011. Personal income tax rates will rise. The top income tax rate will rise from 35 to 39.6 percent (this is also the rate at which two-thirds of small business profits are taxed). The lowest rate will rise from 10 to 15 percent. All the rates in between will also rise. Itemized deductions and personal exemptions will again phase out, which has the same mathematical effect as higher marginal tax rates. The full list of marginal rate hikes is below: The 10% bracket rises to an expanded 15% The 25% bracket rises to 28% The 28% bracket rises to 31% The 33% bracket rises to 36% The 35% bracket rises to 39.6% Higher taxes on marriage and family. The "marriage penalty" (narrower tax brackets for married couples) will return from the first dollar of income. The child tax credit will be cut in half from $1000 to $500 per child. The standard deduction will no longer be doubled for married couples relative to the single level. The dependent care and adoption tax credits will be cut. Higher tax rates on savers and investors. The capital gains tax will rise from 15 percent this year to 20 percent in 2011. The dividends tax will rise from 15 percent this year to 39.6 percent in 2011. These rates will rise another 3.8 percent in 2013. Second Wave: Obamacare There are over twenty new or higher taxes in Obamacare. Several will first go into effect on January 1, 2011. They include: The "Medicine Cabinet Tax" Thanks to Obamacare, Americans will no longer be able to use health savings account (HSA), flexible spending account (FSA), or health reimbursement (HRA) pre-tax dollars to purchase non-prescription, over-the-counter medicines (except insulin). The "Special Needs Kids Tax" This provision of Obamacare imposes a cap on flexible spending accounts (FSAs) of $2500 (Currently, there is no federal government limit). There is one group of FSA owners for whom this new cap will be particularly cruel and onerous: parents of special needs children. There are thousands of families with special needs children in the United States , and many of them use FSAs to pay for special needs education. Tuition rates at one leading school that teaches special needs children in Washington , D.C. ( National Child Research Center ) can easily exceed $14,000 per year. Under tax rules, FSA dollars can not be used to pay for this type of special needs education. The HSA (Health Savings Account) Withdrawal Tax Hike. This provision of Obamacare increases the additional tax on non-medical early withdrawals from an HSA from 10 to 20 percent, disadvantaging them relative to IRAs and other tax-advantaged accounts, which remain at 10 percent.Third Wave: The Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) and Employer Tax Hikes When Americans prepare to file their tax returns in January of 2011, they'll be in for a nasty surprise-the AMT won't be held harmless, and many tax relief provisions will have expired. The major items include: The AMT will ensnare over 28 million families, up from 4 million last year. According to the left-leaning Tax Policy Center , Congress' failure to index the AMT will lead to an explosion of AMT taxpaying families-rising from 4 million last year to 28.5 million. These families will have to calculate their tax burdens twice, and pay taxes at the higher level. The AMT was created in 1969 to ensnare a handful of taxpayers. Small business expensing will be slashed and 50% expensing will disappear. Small businesses can normally expense (rather than slowly-deduct, or "depreciate") equipment purchases up to $250,000.This will be cut all the way down to $25,000. Larger businesses can currently expense half of their purchases of equipment. In January of 2011, all of it will have to be "depreciated." Taxes will be raised on all types of businesses. There are literally scores of tax hikes on business that will take place. The biggest is the loss of the "research and experimentation tax credit," but there are many, many others. Combining high marginal tax rates with the loss of this tax relief will cost jobs. Tax Benefits for Education and Teaching Reduced. The deduction for tuition and fees will not be available. Tax credits for education will be limited. Teachers will no longer be able to deduct classroom expenses. Coverdell Education Savings Accounts will be cut. Employer-provided educational assistance is curtailed. The student loan interest deduction will be disallowed for hundreds of thousands of families. Charitable Contributions from IRAs no longer allowed.Under current law, a retired person with an IRA can contribute up to $100,000 per year directly to a charity from their IRA. This contribution also counts toward an annual "required minimum distribution." This ability will no longer be there. Now, your insurance will be INCOME on your W2's! One of the surprises we'll find come next year, is what follows - - a little "surprise" that 99% of us had no idea was included in the "new and improved" healthcare legislation . . . the dupes, er, dopes, who backed this administration will be astonished! Starting in 2011, (next year folks), your W-2 tax form sent by your employer will be increased to show the value of whatever health insurance you are given by the company. It does not matter if that's a private concern or governmental body of some sort. If you're retired? So what... your gross will go up by the amount of insurance you get. You will be required to pay taxes on a large sum of money that you have never seen. Take your tax form you just finished and see what $15,000 or $20,000 additional gross does to your tax debt. That's what you'll pay next year. For many, it also puts you into a new higher bracket so it's even worse. This is how the government is going to buy insurance for the15% that don't have insurance and it's only part of the tax increases. Not believing this??? Here is a research of the summaries..... On page 25 of 29: TITLE IX REVENUE PROVISIONS- SUBTITLE A: REVENUE OFFSET PROVISIONS-(sec. 9001, as modified by sec. 10901) Sec.9002 "requires employers to include in the W-2 form of each employee the aggregate cost of applicable employer sponsored group health coverage that is excludablefrom the employees gross income." more

Resolved Question: Have you felt the results yet of a 10 year old who sneaked your keys....?

in the dead of night and took a joyride all 'round the neighborhood ( actually he's more like 18 months) ? Have your insurance rates skyrocketed yet? It might be years before the total damage tally comes in. Messing with 14% of the national economy is not a job for amateur vote-getters. Private insurance companies are beginning to raise rates before the new "reform" limits their viability. Many of them will go out of business, taking away thousands of fathers and mothers income, because it's been setup so that it's cheaper for businesses to pay a fine than give their employees insurance. This will lead to the Democrats' "public option" where bureaucrats will totally be in charge of your health care. Armies of IRS agents are being trained to enforce the "reform", and higher taxes are coming to pay their higher than national average wages not to mention the further intrusion of government policies into the private sector that caused the economic damage in the first place. Even when the damage is reversed, will the 10 year old leave a neighborhood in upheaval?BTW if he's not your kid, you have no recourse if you've been damaged - you'll have to live with it more

Resolved Question: In what era were doctors paid the most? (in comparison to engineers and lawyers?)?

My aunt is a doctor and always complains that she never makes enough money for the amount of time, work, and tuition she invested into becoming a doctor. She says that malpractice insurance and Obamacare will probably lead the doctors being paid worse than they are now. I don't really have a good sense of well doctors get paid. My relatives tell me to become a doctor for the financial compensation because I know that is one of the worst reasons to become doctor. But I'm kind of skeptical of well paid they are. But she seems to imply that there was a time when doctors were paid quite handsomely. Certainly, when I think of golf playing people driving sports cars - I usually think of business executives and not doctors. Is my impression true at all? People outside my family do tell me there are much better fields to go into if you simply want to make money. My other aunts and uncles all went into engineering into the 70s and 80s because it was supposedly a hot field. They are still making a good living, but my uncles who are electrical engineers have been forced to relocate on a couple occasions for their jobs. They seem to be out of work every couple years, because I think their work is on a contract basis. They are also older and they tell me that makes them more expendable. They thought their youngest sister was crazy for becoming a doctor because I guess they didn't think it was a good career to get into at the time. So, when were doctors the most well off? 70s? 80s? 90s? Probably not this decade, right? I wouldn't think the earlier part of this century because the health standards probably weren't implemented yet, right? Do you think tough and increasing health standards have anything to do with doctors and their salaries? more

Voting Question: Hurt at work a year ago...now need advise?

A year ago I was hurt at a daycare. A child threw a basketball at another child from a close range and i ended up throwing my hand in the air to deflect the ball and hurt my wrist. I did not claim on the company's workers comp because I knew it would lead to an investigation of the daycare; because they broke state rules but having one adult watching 30 children from about to enter kindergarten to about to enter sixth grade. I did however go get my wrist checked at a hospital, the owner promised to pay the bill. It took a threat of going to a lawyer to get the bill paid. A week later, I was fired because Louisiana is an at will state, where they can fire at will anyone they want just by saying "we don't need you anymore" He held my paycheck at ransom until i sighed my pink slip and paper saying that as he paid the bill and that was all he was going to be liability for. I signed the paper because he wouldn't give me my paycheck without me signing it, On my photo copy of everything you can see tear marks on it because i was crying my eyes out, because I was never fired before and the reason he was firing me (other then just because) was I had a doctors appointment due to my being pregnant at the time with major complications that lead to my miscarriage a week after getting fired. fast forward a year later..I am now having major trouble with my wrist. I opened a costume business a few months ago, and after an hour or so of sewing I can barely move. It's starting to affect my business. With my being self employed I don't have insurance and can't get it checked, but I know its due to this accident, because I had no wrist issues before this. During the past year the daycare has been sold, and is owned by a new company. No one knows where the daycare owners are since they sold it. I don't think there is nothing I can do even if i find them because they made me sign the papers saying they are no longer legal responsible for the accident. I signed it under extreme duress, because I was just fired, told I can't have my paycheck until I sign it. I had bill collectors trying to payments for it breathing down my neck. Is there anything that can be done or am i just out of luck suddenly... thank you Isabis more

Resolved Question: Capitalism failing?????

The top ten percent of americans make up 50 percent of the united states income. Giving America a future which could lead to a country like well Mexico. Amercia right now looks like the old medevil days were you have the peasants and the rich kings and queens. In fact that's how insurance compianies identify you as "peasants". Also corporations have become increasingly powerful causing small business to be literally obsolete. So what to do about this other than the evil "socialism" I don't know choose one, * Authoritarian (The Rule of the few) o Aristocracy o Corporatism o Diarchy o Dictatorship + Military dictatorship + Stratocracy + Enlightened absolutism o Kleptocracy o Monarchy + Absolute monarchy + Constitutional monarchy + Despotism + Duchy # Grand Duchy + Enlightened absolutism + Elective monarchy + Hereditary monarchy + Popular monarchy + Principality + New Monarchs + Self-proclaimed monarchy o Plutocracy + Timocracy o Police state o Theocracy o Tyranny * Anarchy (Absence of organized government) o Ochlocracy o Tribalism * Anarchism (Government of consent, not coercion) o Anarchist communism o Libertarian socialism o Libertarian municipalism o Anarcho-capitalism o Green anarchism o Isocracy o Local Government o Minarchism * Democracy (The Rule of the many) o Consociationalism o Deliberative democracy o Democratic socialism o Dictatorship of the proletariat o Direct democracy o Futarchy o Participatory democracy o Representative democracy + Parliamentary system # Consensus government # Westminster system + Polyarchy + Presidential system + Semi-presidential system o Republicanism + Constitutional republic + Parliamentary republic o Totalitarian democracy more

Resolved Question: Will a new Public Option proposal really save $68 Billion? Do you believe the CBO after Health Care?

http://articles.latimes.com/2010/jul/21/nation/la-na-health-insurance-20100722 " "There is all this concern about the deficit," said Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma), a leading champion of the proposal. "Well, guess what: This would reduce the deficit because it saves so much money." Woolsey and her allies, including Rep. Pete Stark (D-Fremont), are armed with a new analysis by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. Democrats say the CBO projects that the public option could save the government $68 billion between 2014 and 2020. The government's administrative costs would be lower than private insurers', proponents say, and it could pay hospitals and doctors less. That would mean lower premiums — and lower government subsidies for policyholders who need them. Insurance companies, hospitals and other businesses say a public option would undermine employer-provided insurance and set the stage for a so-called single-payer system, in which the government would be the only insurer. Nor are Republican budget hawks likely to sign on — even though the projected savings coincidently match what the leading House GOP healthcare proposal would have generated, according to the CBO." more

Resolved Question: Am I a Liberal or Conservative? What is happening to the United States?

I am 15 years old, and I am very confused as to what is happening to my country and government. Firstly, am I a Liberal or Conservative? I used to "think" I was a democrat because they are also democrats, but I'm starting to lose faith in our president and his decisions. The country is so divided I really don't know what side I am on, since I honestly do not think it's about Democrat or Republican, but now it's either Liberal or Conservative. The members of the House and Senate, who are represented by us, can't seem to ever agree on anything, creating tension and disunity in the government. Honestly, I believe that the national Health Care system is a good choice, because it will help those who can not afford insurance for their families. Though I think right now wasn't the time to start something like that because of the current debt. I despise the Bush Administration, just for their actions in Iraq. Yes, but we did do was a good thing, we took out a tyrant. Even if with the "bad" intelligence, after we found no weapons, why did we have to stay and "help" Iraq? I do not recall the new Iraqi government asking us for any help. Our occupation of Iraq is making things worse. We stay there and "help" them, which leads to Al-Qaeda rooting in with the citizens, to get rid of Western Influence. Ok, so they don't want our help, we still stay. Al-Qaeda starts attacking U.S. soldiers, so now we stay to fight Al-Qaeda since they are an enemy of our nation. (They weren't even there to begin with.) Why couldn't we have just packed up and left Iraq, let the troops come home or allocate them to help Afghanistan, where the ACTUAL terrorists are? Because of the occupation of Iraq, we have messed up our country's economy, messed up the nation of Iraq, civilians and U.S. soldiers died; but honestly I feel bad for our military since the good soldier is losing his life because the government screwed up and apparently didn't seem to realize that? If U.S. soldiers started to die, that obviously sent a message because now the citizens began to sympathize with Al-Qaeda and become insurgents. We occupied West-Germany to help them rebuild under the Marshall Plan, we stuck through that? Why? Because they didn't try to blow us up. Next, I don't see why God is hated so much now. Isn't god in the constitution and on the dollar bill? Why does everything have to be "politically correct" nowadays? I hear people say that it is a violation between the Church and State. I always thought that meant the government couldn't impose a religion on people, but that didn't mean the members of the government couldn't practice that religion. Like Students can pray in school, however the school cannot lead students in prayer. Another thing with the political correctness, why is everyone concerned with race and ethnicity you are labeled as? How come you can't disagree with a man unless he is white, otherwise you are racist? Can't we all just be American? I am half black/mexican, but why is it that Black people are called "African-American" when they are not immigrants? I thought you only added the "-American" if you immigrated from another country or region. Why are standardized tests racist but racial quotas not? Next is Mexican illegal immigration, why do companies hire illegal immigrants for cheap labor? That just encourages more illegal immigrants to come. I believe the state or federal government should do checks on businesses and fine them if they hire illegals? Why is the government stupid enough to allow illegal immigrants to have children who are born here "legally" and then give them welfare? I feel that they abuse that system. I always thought that you were born here legally only if your parents were legal, since I thought that "if you were born here, then you are legal" was created for legal immigrant mothers who were pregnant at the time of immigration process, so they wouldn't have to do all the paperwork for their infant. If you can be born here legally, can't you be born here illegally here as well? I really feel that I am becoming racist against mexicans because of this immigration issue, I automatically think now that if someone is speaking Spanish then they are illegal. I live in California which has a large mexican population and I hate when people wave Mexico's flag around like it's better then the United States..... THEN WHY ARE THEY HERE? I hate how everything now has writing in Spanish too, but I really think that if someone comes to this country, we shouldn't have to change for them. You don't see us having Chinese or Russian with everything do you? I really feel you should speak English in this country if you live here, all the other immigrants had to, so what makes Spanish-speaking immigrants any different? Yes it is a  more

Voting Question: Husband and Facebook Question?

OK. I've been with my live-in boyfriend/common-law husband for over 6 years. He has a Facebook account and is CONSTANTLY on it. He has tons of friends, including a couple of ex-girlfriends. Every time I leave the room, he gets on Facebook. Every time I am in the room, he is on Facebook. When we go out of town, the first thing he does, is get on Facebook. OK, I wouldn't have a problem with this so much, but when he set up his profile, initially, in the relationship status, he left it blank. He refuses to put that he is in a relationship, because (this is a stupid excuse) he doesn't want everyone knowing his business, and that he uses Facebook for business purposes only! He is an insurance agent, and is always hungry for leads, but that excuse is ridiculous! Anyway, I feel like going in the computer, behind his back, and changing the relationship status, but if I do, I think stupid Facebook announces the changes to everyone, doesn't it? What's up with him and Facebook. He gets almost violently mad when I question him on it. He KNOWS that is bothers me to no end that he is on it all the time. He is always looking at photos of the "women friends" too. Like, he has about 6 guy friends, and the rest (about 80) are women that he used to be friends with when he was a bachelor. I don't know what to do! more

Resolved Question: Rental Business: What would be a reasonable consulting fee for this type of service (finding fee++...)?

Hi All, I am a RE investor and landlord with 5 years experience. I was recently asked by a friend who is a passive investor to find a superb property for him for a fee: consult on the topic and lead the entire process from property search till closing. This will include more work and due diligence than an average RE agent. The main reason is I will look for a Plex and he is also a friend so I am more motivated personally to find a truly superb deal (at least same effort as I would put looking for a property for myself!). Also, the process will include arranging a mortgage, insurance, reviewing tenant acknowledgements and many other docs. – items not included in the service RE agents provide. This might take 3-6 month of work to find a superb property meeting all my friends’ criterias. What would be a reasonable consulting fee for this type of service assuming a property value/price of around 750K (say 15 Plex)? Does a fee of $20,000 sound reasonable? Thanks & Regards, Neil more

A person leaving behind two homes and a retirement account could easily pass along a death tax bill to their loved ones. They include: The Tanning Tax. This went into effect on July 1st of this year. It imposes a new, 10% excise tax on getting a tan at a tanning salon. There is no exemption for tanners making less than $250,000 per year. The “Medicine Cabinet Tax” Thanks to Obamacare, Americans will no longer be able to use health savings account (HSA), flexible spending account (FSA), or health reimbursement (HRA) pre-tax dollars to purchase non-prescription, over-the-counter medicines (except insulin). The HSA Withdrawal Tax Hike. This provision of Obamacare increases the additional tax on non-medical early withdrawals from an HSA from 10 to 20 percent, disadvantaging them relative to IRAs and other tax-advantaged accounts, which remain at 10 percent. Brand Name Drug Tax. Starting next year, there will be a multi-billion dollar tax assessment imposed on name-brand drug manufacturers. This tax, like all excise taxes, will raise the price of medicine, hurting everyone. Economic Substance Doctrine. The IRS is now empowered to disallow perfectly-legal tax deductions and maneuvers merely because it judges that the deduction or action lacks “economic substance.” This is obviously an arbitrary empowerment of IRS agents. Employer Reporting of Health Insurance Costs on a W-2. This will start for W-2s in the 2011 tax year. While not a tax increase in itself, it makes it very easy for Congress to tax employer-provided healthcare benefits later. Third Wave: The Alternative Minimum Tax and Employer Tax Hikes When Americans prepare to file their tax returns in January of 2011, they’ll be in for a nasty surprise—the AMT won’t be held harmless, and many tax relief provisions will have expired. The major items include: The AMT will ensnare over 28 million families, up from 4 million last year. According to the left-leaning Tax Policy Center, Congress’ failure to index the AMT will lead to an explosion of AMT taxpaying families—rising from 4 million last year to 28.5 million. These families will have to calculate their tax burdens twice, and pay taxes at the higher level. The AMT was created in 1969 to ensnare a handful of taxpayers. Small business expensing will be slashed and 50% expensing will disappear. Small businesses can normally expense (rather than slowly-deduct, or “depreciate”) equipment purchases up to $250,000. This will be cut all the way down to $25,000. Larger businesses can expense half of their purchases of equipment. In January of 2011, all of it will have to be “depreciated.” Taxes will be raised on all types of businesses. There are literally scores of tax hikes on business that will take place. The biggest is the loss of the “research and experimentation tax credit,” but there are many, many others. Combining high marginal tax rates with the loss of this tax relief will cost jobs. Tax Benefits for Education and Teaching Reduced. The deduction for tuition and fees will not be available. Tax credits for education will be limited. Teachers will no longe more

Resolved Question: Are you ready for the largest tax hikes in history in 6 months?

Personal income tax rates will rise. The top income tax rate will rise from 35 to 39.6 percent (this is also the rate at which two-thirds of small business profits are taxed). The lowest rate will rise from 10 to 15 percent. All the rates in between will also rise. Itemized deductions and personal exemptions will again phase out, which has the same mathematical effect as higher marginal tax rates. The full list of marginal rate hikes is below: - The 10% bracket rises to an expanded 15% - The 25% bracket rises to 28% - The 28% bracket rises to 31% - The 33% bracket rises to 36% - The 35% bracket rises to 39.6% Higher taxes on marriage and family. The “marriage penalty” (narrower tax brackets for married couples) will return from the first dollar of income. The child tax credit will be cut in half from $1000 to $500 per child. The standard deduction will no longer be doubled for married couples relative to the single level. The dependent care and adoption tax credits will be cut. The return of the Death Tax. Resolved Question: HELP!!!! im so confused about us and our future?

My boyfriend asked me to move back in with my parents 5 days ago for a little bit to give him a chance to miss me! After I had lied about claiming on an insurance policy without him knowing and said I had done something else. Small to me but big to him. The day I left he texts me and has called me. Its only been 4 days and he went away last night for a business trip for the night and asked if i wanted to go and sleep there while he was away. Is this odd as he said he wanted time to miss me? What does it mean? I get allot of texts though out the day and the odd phone call which makes me think we will be ok and get back together. After all this is just a small time apart, We don't even touch on the situation when we talk on the phone and text. Last night I text him and said “Are you missing me and think we will sort this out and make another go of it. I think I would just rather know”. He text me back and said “yes I have missed you. Come over at 9 and bring a bottle and we can talk x” He then text and said come over now and we can sit in the garden so went right away and we chatted about everything but us then watched a bit tv then went upto bed and had sex which made me feel great as I had missed him. Today I woke up after sleeping at the house and went to work. Im sitting here now feeling positive as I don’t think he would lead me on. What does everyone think? more

Resolved Question: Starting a business with pony rides for birthday parties?

Ok so me and a friend have already done a few birthday parties for people we know. Taking horses to them and leading kids around on them and letting the kids pet them. We are thinking about starting to advertise locally and starting to do parties on a more regular business. Does anyone know what we would need to do to start a small business doing this? Liability insurance costs? Waiver forms? How much to charge per party? We have been charging $100 per horse(been bringing 2 horses). And yes the horses we take are very well trained and about as bomb proof as a horse can get. We have gotten them used to balloons and other things they might encounter at a party. The 2 we use now are full size horses, but if we starting doing this more we have a pony and 3 minis that we will train and despook to start using them. Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: how should i do my conclusion for my research project? please comment it too?

“The American Dream” Nowadays people think that “The American Dream” is alive and well. To other people the dream is dying everyday little by little. There are millions of people going through hard times struggling to keep their homes and trying to stay out of debt. There have been several cases of home foreclosures, high unemployment rates and illegal immigration. Many people ask, “What causes home foreclosures?” The recent study of home foreclosures has been started by a number of things. First, the economy and the jobless rate people are losing more and more of their jobs across the country. Second, loss of said job can put you behind the 8-ball with no financial support. Also, illness and death can play a role here. Taxes also play a role with death taxes, insurance taxes and home taxes leading the way. Most people see the U.S. a safe and easy why to get out of things. Though nearly one in four households have zero net worth or is in debt and owes more than they own. Like David Francis said “Income mobility has declined in the last 20 years.” Has the “American Dream” been oversold? For years the “American Dream” has been to own a home. The home ownership rate has fallen at least four quarters since 2007 to its lowest level since the beginning of 2002. Eighteen million homes are empty stretched across this country. Last year there where almost over one million empty home just in the United States, bulks and bulks of increase of homes have been lost, of course, is in foreclosed homes (David R. Francis). Here is something to think about there are more empty homes in neighborhoods across America, as the home ownership rate continues to fall. Where’s the “American Dream” hiding in all that? There is a high unemployment in the United States. The unemployment rates vary from state to state in the United States. December of 2007 the unemployment rate nationwide was five percent. That’s two percent below average. Most workers under the age of twenty-five are more likely to be unemployed. Jobs held by younger workers are laid off more often. Young people tend to have less experience and less education. Unemployment rates are affecting everyone in America. According to studies, unemployment has increased steadily over the past decade. The growing population is one of the leading reasons to the unemployment rate. As to another is there are a lot of immigration taking over job because they are willing to take lower wages. (McGinn, Daniel) Some people feel that illegal immigration is affecting all Americans. As mentioned in the last paragraph illegal immigrants are getting most of our jobs. Owners of businesses are laying off their workers mostly due to not being able to afford their wages. So the owner lies off their workers and hires immigrants because they will accept lower wages. Immigration causes several problems in the U.S., such as education disputes, crime, and overcrowding. From studies, these problems have already affected American itself. People estimate that fifty-thousand illegal aliens may get across the border every year. Immigrants are costing tax payers billions of dollars. Immigrants drain funds enormously by taking advantage of welfare. Immigration are causing a dramatic growth in population. They are overcrowding schools, consuming the already limited affordable housing, increasing strain on natural resources like water, energy, and forest land. (Alex Newman) more

Resolved Question: Is conspiring to misuse Yahoo's "report abuse" process to restrain interstate commerce an antitrust violation?

When users have asked (in the insurance category) where they could obtain health insurance or health insurance quotes, I have sometimes told them how they could do so online. My account has been suspended more than once for this "violation". Not including the actual spam that is unrelated to the questions, most of the answers advocated local brick-and-mortar agents or insurance brokers. I suspect that persons with a financial interest in the local agent/broker industry are trying to report all answers that indicate how a user can get health insurance without using a local agent/broker in order to reduce the amount of business that they lose due to competition from online sellers of insurance. Under the Sherman Antitrust Act, a conspiracy to restrain interstate commerce is a felony. Would a plan by two or more users to submit false "abuse" reports to Yahoo to cause the deletion of valid answers that could lead to interstate commerce with the competitors (online sellers of insurance) of the conspirators (the brick-and-mortar agent/broker industry) be covered under this law? more

Resolved Question: My wife's uncle is fairly liberal, politically speaking. He supported obami's health plan and...?

..most of his other liberal nonsense. This weekend he told me that he does not like the direction this country is headed. "It is getting too hard to live, everything is so expensive", and on and on. So I then asked him how much he thought all of these liberal government programs add to the cost of living. You should have seen his face drop! You would have thought that someone had shoved a stick up his arse. (Yes liberals, there is a question in here.) Do liberals realize that big government means more costs to us "subjects"? This year in VT, one of the most liberal states, there is a new law that requires contractors to buy some very expensive equipment and become certified annually to work with lead paint. There is also a bill which will require businesses to pay more taxes involving unemployment insurance. Both of these examples will help drive small business out. When does it stop? When do we tell the liberals that their nonsense does not work. Financially, and morally, this country is going down the drain! The liberal disease is killing everything that patriots have worked and fought for. Now what? more

Resolved Question: I want to run for president one day. Policies and resume below. what do you think?

I am 15 and i am the class president of my High School. I have a 4.2 GPA and play 2 sports for the school and I am the Class President of Student Government. Now here are my ideas for America right now and tell me whether you would vote for me one day or not. Health Care : Health Care is one of America's biggest problems today. Statistics show that Medicare and Medicaid are two of the biggest causes of our debt. Also based on what i have read on the situation 33% of the money we spend on these programs is fraud so I believe that we need to eliminate the fraud in medicare and medicaid by ensuring that the services we pay for are being provided and the services we pay for are necessary. Also based on my research i have found that if we eliminate the fraud in these systems then the cost of Health Care would drop by 15-20% for the average american family. If this happened then it is quite obvious that more people would buy it. But that is only one side of the equation. The problem we also have is that Insurance companies are denying patients coverage because they have pre-existing conditions. I agree with President Obama on this portion of his bill in which he basically makes it illegal for insurance companies to do this. Also my stats conclude that 18% of people dont have health care and unemployment is around 9% so this shows that about 1 in 10 people who work dont have health care. I think that we should allow small businesses to band together to buy Health Care for there employers just like large corporations do.I think eliminating government fraud and restrictions on Health Insurance companies are the best way to go. The Economy: I believe that we should provide tax cuts to all americans. If we lower taxes then this will improve small business growth. This is because small businesses will have more money to spend on employment and production which will ultimately lead to more consumers buying their products which will ultimately help the economy. more

Resolved Question: Was told once I had a Death Wish ?

Sometimes in my life, I have felt the need to put my life in peril. I got a job Driving Taxi cabs at night once in a mid sized city. In the Deep dark of Night calls that came in from the Ghetto other drivers would ignore because a few drivers in the past years had gotten robbed up there and one had gotten murdered. I took them despite being warned by several people that I shouldn't do. Things did happen mostly run-outs where they didn't pay. Did get involved in one fight and one attempted robbery and one time where I picked up some gang-bangers that where still charged up because they had just shot at someone. Won't lie I was scared. I carried a pistol with me. Eventually though business got tight and I lost my Ghetto Monopoly. The loss of income forced me to quit driving cabs. . I got involved in this game called EvE online. its a spaceship based Mmorpg. somebody put a video on youtube for it that I have literally watched hundreds of times and it still almost raises goosebumps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V78AziaU6sg Depression is a reality I know, I have avoided the meds because I have seen them mess some people up bad. And meds are for people who are worse off than me. Not really suicidal, Don't sit around imagining what my funeral will be like. But I can watch saving private Ryan the beach assault scene and say to myself "I would go into something like that, even though I would likely die. " I think I really could. I read books from veterans of many wars and realize war is mostly really hard work and its dirty and Dangerous and likely you will never see a desperate hard won fight but there is a good chance of being permanently maimed/killed by things like land mines and just plain accidents . And I know you would most likely be permanently scarred by seeing the Cooling corpses of your friends. Was unfortunately never able to join the military, My friends that were in tell me its mostly Bull S*** anyway. I think it is affecting my employment too. I have had some good jobs, Gravy jobs alot of them. But I get about a year into them and I really start to Hate them. Sometimes I have tried to force myself to stay in jobs longer but I get really angry and depressed. And I am beginning to wonder if this is what is affecting my Happiness with the jobs. I wonder too if it affects my relationships. I just cant seem to make one work out . Like I am incomplete and not good enough. Finally I wanted to drive trucks in Iraq. I actually went and got a C.D.L. and a pass port. Bought the 500 $ rosetta stone software on arabic everythinghing and set out putting in my time to appear more attractive to Halliburton and KBR. Turns out if your inexperienced without any connections its really hard to get one of those jobs. I thought I was going to get in at one point. but that turned into a big letdown I saw myself Driving lead of a convoy through the most dangerous areas pushing though bullets and IEDs To get my load through. When I was trying to get connections I asked around alot and people thought I was Crazy. I started telling them about all the money you could make over there, inflating the figures and making it sound like I was money hungry. But It was a lie. The truth is though I would still do it for minimum wage and a big life insurance policy so I could leave my Family something nice. One of My trainers said I had a deathwish. Maybe he was right. But I always thought that I just wanted to do one important thing with my life Is this a human thing or a Man thing ? I have never really met a woman even the ones who are going into the military that seem to be interested in a desperate fight. In Movies characters with desires like mineportrayedrayed as fools or idiots I am almost 35 now. And I have had this burning Dissatisfaction for all that I can remember of my life. Is this something common we just dont talk about ? Does it go away when you get older ? Does it go away if you have a wife and kids ? I feel it still, Strong as it ever was. Resolved Question: is the farmers agent opportunity a scam?

1 - i went to the first interview and everything seemed very attractive in the opportunity and what they had to say. however, im skeptical becuase when i asked the district manager what where the key marketing stratagies used to create leads in insurance sales i felt like he completley dodged the question and didnt answer it at all. he said something like it was relationship based and then something like he had some networking meetings he would set me up with. then again maybe he is just not telling me the full details because he doesnt want to let out the companies "trade secrets" to the business. 2 - i also asked him what seperates farmers from the other competitors in the industry and i feel like i didnt get a clear answer again. he said something like farmers is a reputible company with no complaints. 3 - there is one website i found that claims it is a scam: http://www.farmersinsurancegroupsucks.com/farmersinsurance_agent_employee.htm however, this could be just one person looking to get back at farmers because they couldnt make it in the business. 4 - i wonder if there are any legal cases with misrepresentation or similar actions against farmers for this opportunity more

Voting Question: Why don't more countries tie health insurance to employment like America does?

I know that some countries also offer group-rate insurance as a job perk, but many of the free, rich, industrialized democracies of the world have public health care (with a private option, just as we have public and private education), but why don't they follow our lead and tie the health insurance to employment? That way business owners will have to take this into consideration; we can keep people from freelancing or starting their own, small rival businesses; people with pre-existing conditions will seek out jobs based mainly on the benefits offered. Why won't Australia or The Netherlands or Ireland or Norway or Taiwan do this? You can keep a worker in his place if he has a pre-existing condition, "Oh, so you don't want to work on Saturday, well, let's see, I remember you mentioned that you suffer from.....now, if you don't come to work this Saturday, I can fire you, and you'll have to pay out of pocket for Cobra or private health insurnace, and with your condition, you'll either get denied or charged more than you will ever earn per month, so, your @ss is mine, buddy, now do what I say, or lose both your job and your health insurance!" Tying health insurance to full-time employment is a smart idea. It keeps workers in line, they don't rebel if they know that if they quit or get fired, they could end up with no health insurance as group rates, provided by corporate pools, are their main way of getting any insurance and not being turned down or charged more than they earn per month. Why don't Switzerland and Australia and Luxembourg do this, too? They could totally keep their workers in check. more

Medicare Payroll Tax: Starting in 2013, ObamaCare increases the Medicare payroll tax for many small business owners and others earning more than $250,000 a year. This tax hike will place yet another burden on small business owners who the country needs to create jobs and lead the economy into recovery. This job-killing payroll tax is estimated to raise $86.8 billion over seven years. New Tax on Investment: In addition to the Medicare payroll tax hike, investment income will now be subject to a tax of 3.8% starting in 2013 for those in higher income categories. Even middle-class homeowners who realize a capital gain of $250,000 or more on the sale of their home will be hit by this Medicare tax, which will drain another $123.4 billion out of taxpayers’ pockets and into the government’s coffers over seven years. New Drug Tax: ObamaCare’s new tax on brand-name drugs kicks in next year and is estimated to raise $27 billion over nine years. The public can expect to have these costs passed on to them in the form of higher drug prices and higher insurance costs. Resolved Question: How does a 23 year old make a man of himself after 6 years in college?

I'll cut to the chase - I'm 23 years old. I live at home. I worked for 4 years but then gave up cuz I hated my internship with Social Security. I'm mooching off my parents. They pay for car. They pay for gas. They pay for health insurance that I get through SSA's version of Cobra. I used to be SO self-sufficient and never asked for money, but now I'm broke and can't even afford to have a drink at a bar. I've realized that my 4 year BS degree in Lib Arts will be useless, although I have a 2-year in Info. Systems from a reputable comm. college. I've studied film production for a year, but know that's SOOO hard to break into even if you're the best in your county. I used to have dreams of Hollywood and N.Y. but reality has set in. Time to move out and stop being a baby. Most kids I went to HS with are 2 years into their careers of working (for the man, I should say). Most girls don't want to know me after a while cuz they can't respect a non-worker. Most male friends (even heroin addicts who work to support their habit) are disgusted by me that I don't work. In my defense, I am somewhat bright and would kill myself if I have to go pick up peanuts at Camden Yards. Getting a Bachelor's in Lib Arts was a 5 year waste of time. Resolved Question: Can Dawn Marie's Wrestlers Rescue ultimately be successful at reforming the wrestling business?

Can Dawn Marie's organization Wrestler's Rescue ultimately be successful at reforming the pro wrestling business? The Wrestler (volume 29, 2009) mentioned this: "Wrestler's Rescue has a three phased objective: fund-raising and building awareness of the needs of former wrestlers, the development of a financial advisory for active wrestlers, and ultimately the development of a health-care program that wrestlers can buy into for themselves and their families." According to Dawn, "Wrestlers are independent contractors with no health insurance. They are afraid to tell people of their injuries because they are afraid that someone will take their spot if they take time off to recover, and that leads to more injuries in the long run. You don't want to ask for time off and risk losing your spot." The article stated, "Because of the nature of the occupation, insurance companies are reluctant to insure pro wrestlers, she said. If an insurance company is willing to provide coverage, the rates are so exorbitant that wrestlers can't afford it, so they frequently go without insurance altogether." The wrestling industry can be a political minefield but can Wrestler's Rescue succeed in their goals at working with independent promotions? more

Resolved Question: Is this really the change that we need?

David Cameron keeps on telling us we cant go on like this and it is time for change. Gideon's strap line is we are all in this together. So lets compare all their taxation policies and how they benefit an average working family, to 3 of the leading tory policy makers families - The Cameron's, The Osborne's and the Ashcroft's 1. A change in the inheritance tax threshold - Osborne's, Ashcroft's, and Cameron's all benefit most twice over - the average working man doesn't 2. The removal of the 50% tax bracket - All 3 tories benefit - the average working man doesn't 3. Recognising tax in the marriage system As Mrs Cameron and Mrs Osbourne work poor Dave and Gideon miss out on this one. Average working man also misses out. 4. Cancelling the National Insurance raise. The average working man actually scores here - he saves a staggering £34 a year or £2.83 a month or £0.65p a week. As a medium to large employer - Lord Ashcroft saves quite a tidy sum, The Osbourne's save another tidy sum on the family run wallpaper business, and Dave possibly employs people to manage his property empire so also saves. However the clincher on the working man is how will he fund the savings that the Osbourne's, Cameron's and lastly (but certainly not least) the Ashcroft's - will he be expected to pay more in VAT? Or simply will these 3 people reduce the level of funding that his children receive in education, will they reduce the number of doctors in his local hospital? Or will the reduce the number of police on his street? We may need change - but is this the change we really need? more

Resolved Question: Health care rebuttals?

heres what I have so far- 1.Opening statement- I believe that nationalizing the Health insurance in America would be a terrible idea because at the condition that this country is in this would just cause more debt for this country, and it is also up to the people whether they want government coverage. 2.Private health care companies have make sure they reach government health insurance requirements 3.It will cost billions of dollars possibly even trillions, example it will cost over 100,000 billion dollars a year, and at this current time this countries debt is already a very high so therefore it would create just more debt so I believe it would not be appropriate at this time. 4.Taxes for every American will increase by 1-2% depending on how much they make. In order to pay off the costs for health reform. 5.There will be long waiting lists for cat scans, MRI’s, and surgerys, as Europe and Canada have expercinced because they have Socialized Medicine. 6.Private health insurance rates will be increased.1 7.The health care bill will put many private health insurances out of business 8.People who are under the nation health insurance coverage will not always be able to choose there docter or practioner. 9.You will need to report to your local government when you are traveling because in the event you have health services. (Mandate- a document giving a command) 10.Will cause tax on job growth. If they don’t meet government health insurance requirements they will have tax penalty on pay roll. 11. The NFIB the leading small business assocation, opposes the health care bill due to the fact 86 percent of small businesses who offer coverage only offer one plan. Small employers and their employees want the ability to choose from a variety of affordable plans. H.R. 3200 reduces options available to small businesses. The bill gives a political board the power to determine whether an employer plan is “acceptable.” It does nothing to ensure that the new plans will be less expensive than what small employers are paying today. 12.Americans who are not covered will be forced to pay a fine or get insured by 2014.What is the difference between socialized medicine and the health care bill? What do you mean less poverty this isnt just going to get more people off the streets its just simply getting them health care. The reason why this wont take action until 2014 is because it is going to cost so much more money and therefore they must wait till the goverment to have enough funding to begin. more

Resolved Question: How many of you think that the health-care bill is still government run health-care despite no public option?

Despite the fact that the federal health insurance plan (a.k.a. the “public option”) is now gone from the bill, Republicans and conservative groups have continued to claim that the bill institutes a system like the one in the United Kingdom, or Canada, or otherwise amounts to a government takeover. It doesn’t. A pure government-run system was never among the leading Democratic proposals, much to the chagrin of single-payer advocates. Instead, the bill builds on our current system of private insurance, and in fact, drums up more business for private companies by mandating that individuals buy coverage and giving many subsidies to do so. There would be increased government regulation of the insurance industry, however, to require companies to cover preexisting conditions, for example. These “government-run” claims have also included heavy criticism of health care in the U.K., such as the outrageous assertion by former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop that seniors would be “too old” to qualify for artificial joints and pacemakers in the U.K. The majority of those getting joint replacements and pacemakers in the U.K. are, not surprisingly, seniors more

Resolved Question: Don't people realize that Obamacare will hurt businesses and lead to employee layoffs ?

Don't people realize that Obamacare will hurt both small buinesses + large businesses because businesses pay a portion of their employee's health insurance premiums in their " company group policy " and increased requirements imposed by Obamacare on health insurance will undoubtedly lead to higher premiums for both employees & employers ? This, in turn, will impact negatively upon small businesses requiring them to cut their costs by laying off employees to make up for the increased health insurance premiums they will be paying for the remaining employees ?LH - That still won'r cut it. I'm certain that BO's increased corporate taxes will more than offset any petty tax rebate much less increased health insurance premiums That's like Obama stealing 500 Billion Dollars from Medicare and then giving Social Security Recipients a one time $ 250 check in lieu of an cost of living increase more

Resolved Question: What happens with a casino if everyone always wins?

Here's something to think about. If there was a casino, and everyone always won, how long could that casino stay in business? Casinos depend on the losers to pay the bills for the few winners. The same concept applies to insurance companies does it not? Some people go through life with little to no reason to need insurance, which pays for the people who actually need it. What happens if insurance companies are forced to cover everyone? How long can they stay in business? Does this lead to complete government takeover as the only option? Resolved Question: What is going to happen to the political climate if this bill passes?

Everybody in the entire country has gotten involved in the argument, most people are against it, and they are passing it anyway. They are trying to make it sound like an extension of freeing the slaves and civil rights, but I just don't see it. This is really just a bad economic idea, based on the false belief that insurance companies are the cause of all the problems. If I was a republican in Congress I would be irate, and unwilling to work with democrats on anything. The entire process was a disaster, and the democrats are trying to rub it in the face of everyone else. It isn't even about doing what makes sense, they are just trying to win and piss people off. I'm not even that hard core of a Republican, and I support plenty of ideas Democrats support. Because of this specific bill, I have a lot of anger towards Obama. I have lost all respect for him. It is not that our views differ, I understand people have different views and beliefs. It is that he is an ideologue who is willing to stop at nothing, to force major changes nobody wants except for him. He isn't the owner of a business, who is an elected official who is supposed to represent the people. He is basically doing what he wants to do, and he is ignoring the people. If they keep doing this, I would suspect this could lead to social unrest in this country. more

Resolved Question: Why are insurance companies so good with propaganda and why do many Americans fall for it?

1. They focus obsessively on the flawed systems of two nations only (Canada and Britain), and completely ignore Japan, Israel, Australia and Switzerland. 2. They tell the people that universal health care has failed everywhere and the people believe it (then why aren't the people of Taiwan, Norway and Austria, to name a few, not out protesting for its dismantling?) 3. They tell the people all about long waitings lists, but neglect to mention how many are kept waiting while the insurance company makes the decision to go ahead or not. 4. They convince the people that universal health care is the stepping stone to communism, as if such a system will turn us into North Korea (note, Australia has universal health care and is a free country). 5. They lead the people to believe that all nations with universal health care have up to 90% taxes levied. Yes, Germany and the Scandinavian nations have very high taxes, but not every single country in Europe, and Australia's taxation is similar to ours). 6. They convince the people of the dangers of having govt. make healthcare decisions, but never realize that it's worse with health insurance executives making those decisions, because you are a potential profit of loss to them. I would rather have a nameless bureaucrat who doesn't care if I live or die than an insurance executive who prefers that I die should I become unprofitable. 7. They conveniently gloss over how the current system stifles small business growth or freelance work and leads to "job lock," thus limiting opportunities for Americans who want to work independently. 8. They've convinced millions that those without insurance are just lazy bums or reckless spendthrifts, ignoring the hard-working poor who can't find jobs with benefits or make just enough to disqualify them for state aid.How many politicians are getting their orders from the insurance companies who finance them and make sure that such propaganda is disseminated? They can also sponsor talk radio. more

Resolved Question: This this prove once and for all that Obama is a Trotskyite Socialist?

In his latest Obamacare speech, he said that we needed a healthcare system that works better for the American public than for the insurance companies. Think about that. It almost made me throw up on my tv set. If someone operates a business that works better for the customer than for the business, then that business cannot make a profit and it will fail. Example. When you go into McDonald's for a shake and fries and the product costs $1.50 to produce and they sell it to you for $4.00, they have made a profit of $3.50. This is to the obvious advantage to McDonald's and not the customer. The only way for the purchase to be to the customer's advantage is for McDonald's to sell the product for no more than the $1.50 it cost to produce and the restaurant would have no incentive to stay in operation. The only way that it would make sense would be for a collective ownership of the restaurant in which there would be no profit motive. (Public Option Anyone?) So it should be obvious that Obama is advocating Socialism. Right? For you weak minded libs, a business including a health insurance company must operate to the advantage of the business and not to the advantage of the customer, otherwise this leads to socialism. And the speech was rebroadcast on the socialistic PBS Newshour, using my tax money to spread this collectivist cancer that will destroy the American way of life. They must be stopped. more

Resolved Question: What is wrong with a few people dying each year from lack of health care?

Since, according to the Republican Party, most Americans prefer a free market health care system which excludes people from having insurance based on preexisting conditions, why all the noise about a few people dying each year? Only libs see a problem with this but a government takeover of the system would lead to socialism and destroy our free market economy. Is it not worth a few American lives each year to preserve this system? If a person does not have health insurance it is their own fault for being too lazy to earn enough money to pay for it. Should someone lose their job and can't afford the COBRA while jobless, should we have to pay because they were too irresponsible to save enough money to pay their premiums until they find another job? And if they are unable to buy insurance after a job lose because of poor health, why should I have to help them when they could have simply eaten fewer potato chips? And why should the government be able to dictate to for profit corporations such as Blue Cross what they have to do or not do? After all, we have the choice of not doing business with them. more

Resolved Question: Can you give me any ideas about this writing, please? Is it fine?

Health care is a very major issue that deals with the future of the U.S and its citizens. President Obama wants to make the insurance more available to all people and change the American’s health care system so that it is cheaper. He also wants the change so that the insurance companies find it harder to get out of paying for treatment. There are many pros of enforcing health care such as it will come to the aid of people who do not have Medicare or Medicaid. Many people have went to hospitals for serious conditions and have either been sent back out of the hospital or tended to last because they cannot afford to pay the bill. If this is enforced, the costs of the health bills will be reduced and more affordable. People will not have to pay a large amount of money just because of natural causes. On the other hand, patients receiving medical coverage also receive additional help in the event of a serious injury or illness. It would also assist people who have a very low income but yet work hard acquire the help they require. For instance, perhaps right now they are stress out about not being able to afford prescription drugs or frustrated that they cannot afford to pay a dentist or to operate on their teeth. It would provide relief to families fighting to make ends meet. People would also be protected in the event of an accident. Additional pro is that there will be increased competition in the insurance market. It might be from a public option. It might also be from some kind of non-profit, state-specific, co-operative. This might push the health care companies to lower costs and provide better services. Health care enforcement not only has pros but it also has some cons. There will be fewer doctors in medicine because of a drastic pay cut. Patients may be subjected to wait extremely long for treatment. If health care does happen to get enforced, hospitals will be packed with patients that need to be treated. Another con of health care enforcement is that people will be controlled more by the government. If health care does get enforced then it is more than likely that the government is going to take charge and make huge changes. He may pass additional restrictions to keep us away from certain things or increase taxes on things such as smoking, fast-food, etc. Doing these things could actually stop many Americans from having the freedom that they already have. All of our health records and personal information will be in the hands of the government and all of that information will no longer be confidential. Moreover, government-controlled health care could lead to a decrease in patient flexibility. The doctors cannot get to all of the patients at one time and they have to figure out which people will have to be treated first. These decisions could lead to people with serious problems waiting for many months just to get treatment at the hospitals. Should Congress pass a health care reform bill? I think it is important that they do everything within their power to get the middle class back to full employment before they try to overhaul the health care system. No matter what reforms are made, it is going to add a huge burden to government budgets. The U.S cannot maintain the current rate of spending, much less increase it, without a solid middle class tax base because we can be certain that the rich and business are not going to pay for it. more

Resolved Question: Any Shooting Range Owners From Florida?

In the part of Florida that I live, there is only one range with four stalls. It is expensive as well as run down. People go there only because they have no other place to go within a 50 mile radius. I decided I want to open a range myself and have already obtained so much data that my head is spinning, yet I still have some questions I am having trouble getting answered. I have the Florida State Statutes, County Codes and Zoning, The NRA Range Sourcebook (in the mail), USAF ETL 08-11: Small Arms Range Design and Construction, the EPA CFRs for lead, and have a couple of properties I am looking at in my area that meet code and would be large enough to suffice the range. The range will be an outdoor range that has 50m (X5), 100 m (X5), 300 m(X3), and 1000 m (X2) lanes that will have use a dirt backstop accompanied by a cement block wall. The range will allow for ammunition from .22 cal to .50 cal. Other than delivery of dirt my brother, cousin, dad, and friend will assist me in the construction of the stalls, measuring the Surface Danger Zone/Vertical Danger Zone, backstops, and targets. My cousin and myself are going to Orlando to become Range Safety Officers for insurance purposes. As business takes off I will be adding a skeet shoot and a tactical/obstacle course with pop-up targets and CQB scenarios, but those are not in the making yet (not until I have an established business). The building where business will be conducted will need to have retail space for accessories, gear, ammo, and guns for sale/rent (I have an application for an FFL but until I have a location of business I cannot send it in). I will also need a 125ft X 125ft room for conducting NRA, CCW, and security courses as well as offer free hunting courses (All but the hunting courses will be taught by either myself or my cousin). A bathroom and breakroom are requirements for a security training facility in my state. I know what is needed by the county, state, EPA, and BATFE in regards to licensing and regulations for the range and firearms, what I am not sure of is the business aspect. I was hoping someone who owns a range in Florida could help answer the few questions that I have left. Q1: I know the average mark-up for firearms and accessories in the area, but how can I find the cost of the firearms and accessories (wholesale/dealers price) or of any price breaks for bulk orders? The distributors will not talk to me until I have my FFL and I cannot get my FFL without a place for business and I cannot get a place of business without a business loan from a bank. Due to the economy and my age, 24, I am going to have to go to the bank with a DETAILED business plan and explain how they will get there money back. Q2: How do you pay a business loan back? Do you pay monthly payments (i.e. mortgage/car payment) or do you pay in back in a lump some with in so many years? If so what is the time frame it is to be paid back in? Q3: Do you know of any good insurance companies to cover my business (in Florida) and if so how much does it cost? Again they will not talk to me until I have a business. Q4: How much do lead removal services cost? The EPA mandates that a company has to come and remove lead from my dirt back stops and I'm sure it is not free. If I have the equipment am I allowed to do it myself? Q5: If you own an outdoor range in Fl, do you mind telling me an estimated cost of construction supplies for your outdoor range? Q6: I am looking a buying a large piece of land and I'm probably not going to find one with a building on it that suits my needs. Any ideas/suggestions on new construction vs. other options I am unaware of such as portable buildings (if they have them) Q7: What are the state and federal taxes (estimate of course) for running such a business in FL? Please, refrain from JUST telling me that this is an expensive business and that it will fail. I now that it will be expensive and that is why I need a DETAILED business plan for the bank. I am hoping for help with the few financial questions left to determine the over all cost and revenue I will need to acquire. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I appreciate and look forward to any responses. more

Resolved Question: Do you agree with this new bill Bill to eliminate illegal immigrant driver loophole advances?

Weymouth — A bill filed by Sen. Robert L. Hedlund designed to prevent illegal immigrants from registering motor vehicles in Massachusetts has advanced in the Legislature and is gaining support from lawmakers. The Joint Committee on Transportation approved the bill Thursday, just two days after the Senate included similar language in its “Safe Driving Bill.” “It is clear that more and more of my colleagues recognize the danger that exists when loopholes exist that enable people without driver’s licenses and, without any sort of training, register and then get behind the wheel of a car,” Hedlund said. The measure was not included in the House version of the Safe Driving Bill. Differences between the House and Senate bills will be negotiated by a conference committee. Sen. Hedlund expects to be one of the six legislators named to the committee. “Including this piece in the final version of the Safe Driving Bill will be one of my top priorities as a member of this conference committee,” Hedlund said. “We cannot truly have safe roads, if we continue to make it easy for unlicensed and untrained drivers to own cars.” The Transportation Committee endorsement is important, he said, because it provides extra weight during the conference committee process. It also means that if the language is stripped out from the final conference committee report, it measure can still be passed as a standalone bill. State law currently prohibits illegal immigrants from applying for and receiving drivers licenses. However, drivers are not required to show proof they have a valid license when registering their vehicles. By taking advantage of this loophole, many illegal immigrants are able to drive legally registered cars without ever having to take a driver’s education course, or pass a road test. According to reports, there are approximately 170,000 vehicles on the roadway with so-called “X-registrations.” Although some belong to senior citizens who no longer drive, or to commercial business, the vast majority belong to illegal immigrants. Hedlund filed his bill, S 1921, after hearing from a number police officers complaining about difficulties policing illegal immigrant drivers. According to one North Shore police officer, during an 8-month period he pulled over 13 vehicles that ended up being registered to drivers without a valid license. Other police officers say illegal immigrant drivers also often cancel their car insurance, or let is lapse, once they secure their registration. This can lead to problems if an unlicensed, untrained driver without insurance is involved in a car accident, the officers say. The bill requires that corporations registering motor vehicles produce a federal tax identification number, or a social security number, if the business entity is a sole proprietorship. It allows the RMV to grant specific exemptions, such as if a vehicle is owned by a senior citizen who no longer drives, but instead is driven around by friends or family members. http://www.wickedlocal.com/weymouth/news/x1918404513/Bill-to-eliminate-illegal-immigrant-driver-loophole-advances more

Resolved Question: How about an independent commission to solve heath care in the US?

Here is my thought: 1. The President appoints former public officials, doctors, insured and uninsured people and former insurance company leaders. Maybe 5 democrats, 5 republicans, 5 doctors, 5 insured people, 5 uninsured people, 5 former insurance company executives and a professional facilitating company to lead meetings and sessions. 2. Identify the main problems with the current system and come up with potential solutions. Use problem solving methods like LEAN or Kaizen, or Kempner Trago like thousands of successful businesses do today. 3. Go out to town hall meetings (committee members) in different regions, and get input for local people to add to the bank of knowledge. (not yelling or screaming or anything like we have seen) 4. Bring the findings and a few simple, detailed solutions to the major issues to congress. Then we will truly have a bipartisan solution, with input for the American people. more

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I appreciate and look forward to any responses. more
