Nordstrom making Calif. moves Puget Sound Business Journal (Seattle)
Nordstrom Inc. said it plans to open a new store in Santa Monica, Calif., and also plans to relocate a store in Cerritos, Calif., and remodel another store in Walnut Creek, Calif.
The new store in developer Macerich’s (NYSE: MAC) Santa Monica Place shopping center will have three levels and 122,000 square feet. It will open in fall 2010, according to the upscale Seattle retailer (NYSE: JWN).
Nordstrom also said it will relocate an existing store in the Los Cerritos Center in Cerritos to a new location that will have two levels and 138,000 square feet. The new location will replace a Robinsons-May store and is expected to open in spring 2010. Nordstrom has operated a store in the Cerritos center since 1981.
Nordstrom added that it will remodel and expand its store at Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek. more

BUNDOORA'S La Trobe University is one of three Whittlesea businesses that have answered the call to reduce its carbon footprint.
The university, Thomastown's Boral Bricks and Turi Enterprises have each been listed among 250 of Victoria's biggest water and energy users that are being asked to make plans to cut consumption.
The sites have used more than 120 megalitres of water or more than 100 terajoules of energy during 2006/07.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Gavin Jennings said the new Environment and Resource Efficiency Plan program was asking businesses, including Melbourne Zoo, hospitals and shopping centres, to cut their resource use.
"(The) Environment Protection Authority will work closely with all participants to help them develop plans, which will save their businesses money as well as helping the environment," he said. more
