Stocks rise on employment data, Fed borrowing plan

Oil prices fell again, adding to Wall Street's upbeat mood, and the Dow Jones industrial average rose more than 100 points.

Automatic Data Processing said private sector employment rose by 9,000 during this month. After seeing jobs disappear by the thousands in recent months, the stock market is eager for any insights into the Labor Department's take on the job market on Friday.

The Federal Reserve announced it was extending its emergency borrowing program for Wall Street banks, which reassured the market that investment banks won't suffer from liquidity problems. The central bank will also now allow commercial banks to bid on cash loans that last for 84 days, besides the 28-day loans that are now available. The original program allowing investment firms to turn to the Fed for a quick source of cash will now run through Jan. more

Malawi selling off properties in Canada

The Mutharika administration did little to advertise the properties for rent, succeeding only to rent out two of the six, and only this year, three years after they were vacated.

A paid agent has been providing electricity and gas, water, swimming-pool maintenance, snow ploughing in winter, cleaning and grass cutting in summer.

The properties are 7 Clemow Avenue (Chancery), 16 Edenbrook Court House, 5 Massey Lane House, 240 Coltrin Road House (Official Residence of the High Commissioner), 2472 Wyndale Crescent House and 1850 Camborne Crescent House.

The real estate agency which has been maintaining the houses and is now in charge of selling them on behalf of the Mutharika government, is Caldwell and Associates Realty, who are at 38 Charles Street, Ottawa. Their phone number is 613-744-5525.

In a decision that shocked the diplomatic community in the G8 country Canada, Malawi chose to close its diplomatic presence on site in October 2005, opting to diplomatically service Canada through Malawi’s installation in Washington, DC, USA.

Almost all African countries south of the Sahara maintain on-site diplomatic presence in Ottawa, Canada being one of the largest aid donors to the region, and an important player at the United Nations, the Commonwealth, La Francophonie, the Pacific-Rim and the Americas.

Many countries also use their diplomatic presence in Ottawa to service relations with Cuba, which cannot be done from missions in the United States which doesn’t allow it.

Mutharika’s decision to close Malawi’s on-site diplomatic presence in Ottawa will not bind the Malawi Government forever, given Canada’s importance to Malawi and the world. It is more than likely that a future administration will reverse the decision.

The more reason this fire-sale of Malawi’s property is uncalled for. As Mutharika himself must know, one of the largest expenses a government faces in maintaining diplomatic posts abroad is rent.

Open Question: Need help, receiving unemployment but former employer is appealing?

I live in Illinois and held two jobs last year 2009 but the one I am currently working for is discriminating against me and the other one forced me into resignation due to mistreatment. I was approved for unemployment benefits early this month February and the abriator sent me a letter stating that I was discharged and my former employer told me it would be best if I quit rather than being fired. I was told unemployment spoke with my past employer and they said I quit due to “personal” reasons. This is not true. It was because of discrimination, retaliation and verbally abusive hostile work environment. I have a phone hearing in a few weeks and can not afford a lawyer. I never signed any documentation and gave them a verbal 2 weeks notice. After reading my statement of the events that took place please let me know what you think and how I should go about this properly. This is very long by the way, sorry. Thank you. My past employer forced me to resign by making my work environment hostile and personally attacking me, not scheduling me for a couple weeks and it also made my mental and physical health problems worse and caused a lot of stress that was relative to the job. These last few months I have had to see doctors and I due to physical health problems. When I started at my other job I really put a lot of time and effort in and helped a lot of my co workers out that need time off by taking shifts for them. July 25, 2009 I was on my way to work at the first job and I got stung by something on the way there riding a motorized scooter. My arm started to swell up really bad and I was getting dizzy. I tried working at my first job for about 20 minutes, but the pain was too much to handle. I was sent home on my way home I stopped at the other job that was supposed to work and showed upper management my arm, by then it was turning red and hiving up I was in tears from the pain. She then said ok go home get some rest we will cover your shift. The next day I came in and I was written up for missing the day before! Within the first week of May there was a personal attack on me from my second job by one of my mangers and co worker because I was not able to take a shift for someone. From then on the co worker treated me very poorly and added to the hostile environment by going off on me in front of customers if I made any mistakes or needed information for products in order to complete my job duties. Whenever the coworker was working the service desk and I needed to call for something for a customer I would hesitate to call over. There was an instance where she did hang up on me. This has happened with my supervisor as well. Anytime I needed an over ride for an item or had a question about a price check or was un sure of the correct department number to call for a price or new item for a customer she would get upset because I was either not able to find it in the employers ad or get a hold of someone in the correct department because they would not answer and she would have to call an over head page to the department which is part of her job duties. In September I had a customer who was giving me a hard time about something along the lines of prices being wrong on a few products he bought and expired coupon issue. This employer does not accept expired coupons of any kind be it manufacture or from our store since May 2009. I explained this to the older man in a professional business way and he started going off on me and yelling very loud and humiliating me in front of everyone. I was on one of the self scans at the time this took place. He referred to me as just a kid and I don’t know how to do my job correctly and how ridiculous this was. After referring to me as a kid I could help but tell him I am 25 years old and don’t you dare call me a kid. I went to walk away from him to call my supervisor and he then said hey don’t you walk away finish your job! He said I want to talk to your manager. Supervisor came over and apologized to the customer and told me to go on break. I told my manager who at the time was in charge about what took place and all he told me is it happens and to just get over it. In early November I was helping a customer with a price check on one of the self scan checkout lanes. I must have not realized the customer wanted this product still and I accidently deleted it out of the computer. At the time the co worker that treated me poorly came to relieve me for break. When I returned she yelled at me for supposedly leaving the customer and that he wanted the item still. I did not inform her I was back from break because of what she had just put me thru. One customer cared enough to get the co worker’s name from me that saw this action take place. I was extremely embarrassed and humiliated by this person in appropriate actions towards me. A few weeks later I got pulled in the office and was told money was missing out of my drawer and I would be put on audit. The same workerI have filled charges with the EEOC against my current employer for discrimination but EEOC said they would not be able to help with what happend at my other employer workplace. I submitted a more lengthy report to them.. The same worker works cash office that has a personal grudge against me. I talked to upper manager and asked if she or anyone could have taken the money. I was told no. One of my managers told that co worker what we had discussed and the co worker again lashed out at me verbally. For the time I worked at my second job I was always on time for work and breaks. Except for a couple instances where I had to take public transportation. I was written up for being 2 minutes late. I was also then pulled in the office because I supposedly was late on a break by one minute another write up which is not true. I start a stop watch timer on my breaks always. I am OCD so I am good at watching time. The last thing they did was back in November they did not schedule me for a couple weeks. I was told that was because there were no hours for those weeks. But everyone else had gotten scheduled! I checked the schedule for the following week and it said 2 days. The next day I went to check it againand it was not there. They put me back on schedule without telling me thenn wrote me up for not showing up.Employer is aware that I have mental disabilities due to frontal lobe brain injury as well as possible physical health problems that involve my neck, back and hips that are currently being checked out and that I have addressed to my medical doctor many times. more

Within my current school, Hilltop High, I am treasurer of the Hilltop Humanitarian Society. The Hilltop Humanitarian Society was created in September 2007 to help orphaned children in Africa. Members With the help of local businesses and community members, and in partnership with the “Ugandan Women's Effort To Save Orphans”, the Humanitarian Society is a major sponsor of the Masulita Children's Village in Uganda. The HIV-AIDS pandemic in Uganda has left more than 2 million children as orphans, many of whom have no access to education, shelter, regular food and medication. Our main goal is to foster relationships between students in Uganda and Canada, and to involve the students in direct, face-to-face aid. The society volunteers at many different events, with all the profits going straight to where it is needed most. We donate 500 USD a month. It is a very direct organization; the money goes straight to the orphanage. We have very direct ties with the kids, owners and runners of the orphanage. The Ugandan children are part of our family. Each member has a pen pal orphan, they are always very thankful to us, the first letter I received from my pen pal made me cry and funded an enormous realization within me that will last forever, it has taught me so much about how a person can help the world the best they can, with love and care. They are so thankful to us. I and many other members put on events such as, bottle drives, car washes, catering, school events, and many opportunities that generous local businesses offer; we work at quilt shows, serving suppers at business parties and much more. As treasurer, I am responsible for all financial work such as budgeting, ledgers, reconciliation, financial reports, banking, scheduling and tracking volunteering hours. On New Years Eve 9 of us went ice skating at a city owned ice rink in connecticut. We were on vacation visiting my sister. We live in Mississippi. Anyways, One of the guys working at the rink shut off the lights and my friend fell down and hit her head very hard. The manager that night wrote an accident report for the skating rinks records and stated she had no idea why the guy turned the lights off and said he should not have done it. We took my friend the ER and she suffered a concussion. The hospital bill came in and its a few dollars short of $2000.00. We did not get a copy of the accident report she wrote down and the cops were not called. Also, upon going to the rink, we all paid in cash and did not sign any waivers or paper. The accident was their fault and we have 9 witnesses. We're writing them a letter and would like to know if there is anything we need to know or if anyone's had something like this happen to them. Last night on Twitter, Taz wrote "thank god" WWE's version of ECW is done and sarcastically called McMahon not thanking Paul Heyman or the ECW originals a "classy" move. On Facebook, Taz explains exactly what bothered him about McMahon's announcement: Yo, So, WWE version of ECW is not alive anymore and VKM didn't acknowledge the past accomplishments of the true pioneers of the brand name. Ok, so Taz is angry about this? Taz is surprised about this? Taz is losing sleep because of this? No, no & no. So Taz is a little confused because... --I know for a FACT how proud Vince is of the WWE HOF! And he should be! --I know for a FACT how proud Vince is that his highly successful company is in a position to ACKNOWLEDGE the past success of those who have paved the way for the industry! --I know for a FACT that Vince feels its his (and his company) responsibility to recognize the successes of the wrestlers of the past...even if they never wrestled for the WWF/WWE! See, saying that VKM's promo was a little vague when he mentioned "all the Superstars" that made ECW a success would have captured how i actually felt! Point is, why not acknowledge the Paul Heymens contributions to the industry? Or, saying thanks to all the ECW original wrestlers? A lot of blood, sweat and tears were dropped during the original ECW's life! If you are going to thank cameramen & directors (etc) than acknowledge the past history because its well deserved. If you utilized the letters ECW to make a lot of $$$ over the past several years I would assume that your respect the history of ECW? If you would produce and sell a successful DVD documenting the companies history...I would assume you feel that the original ECW history has value....than why not give it a proper send off? Now, am I a little sensitive when it comes to the legacy of the original ECW? Well yes. Can some say that, "hey Taz... you sold out and left ECW to go to the WWE".....well yes. Unfortunately, this is a business and I did what I needed to do (at the time) for my family and have ZERO regrets! Now, when WWE gave Tommy Dreamer his send off, they were 1st Class all the way and I went public and acknowledged that WWE did the right thing! So, do you think that WWE will build a 1 or 2 minute video package in next weeks show with shots of ECW's past? Hmmm. Bottom line, I'm very happy the letters ECW will finally get to rest in peace....THAT'S well deserved! more

Here is the problem, He is her boss and he wont fire her! So this is what happen the other day I went to an interview that was reffered to me by my sisters friend. She told me that her friends works at a law firm and they are looking for a law clerk so I said sure I am interested cause i am looking for work I am a Business Grad so I accept being that its so close to my college. So i faxed in my resume and cover letter and the lawyer was impressed at my writing skills so we set up an interview. Well when i got there I sat down in this room and talk to the lawyer that was interviewing me he asked me a bunch of questions that are typical during an interview because i did practice. He wanted to know where i was born, how old was I etc.. I didnt think anything of it. Then he ask me for salary requirements and how much i want and instead of saying open i listen to my sister and told him i wanted 15-20 an hour. Then he shuts me out and says this positiion only pays 11 an hour. So i told him I am negotiable and is open to that then he ask me am i the sole provider in my family and i told him no but I kind of am cause i live with my mom and I actually want to help her out at home. So all of sudden im thinking i bombed the interview with that line. So then the wierd thing he all of sudden says you have a POP QUIZ and im thinking to myself I havent heard that line since middle school. And he was serious so he gave me questions staying: 1) What would i do if I caught David (friend of my sister) texting during business hours? 2) What do I think of Obama's performance so far? 3) What would I do if a client gets angry at me and tells me I am transfering calls to the lawyer? I had to literally write a 3 page essay on all these questions I was so frustrated I wanted to leave but I didnt because I am representing my sisters friend and didnt want to give him a bad impression. So i wrote the essay and hes like oh thanks. Well unfortunatley I cannot pay you what you want and you have a darn good resume and you might get what you want. Come back in a month and i will re-interview you. My employer had a number of meetings where it was announced that reduced hours/redundancies will take place due to reduced business levels. It was said that the downturn in business was most notable in my department. I was told that either I take the redundancy option or they will reduce my hours of 40% (working 3 days a week). I didn’t agree to it and didn’t sign anything. There is no variation clause in my contract. At the end of July I received a letter from the employer thanking me for agreeing to work reduced hours. I wrote back saying that am not happy and do not agree to the reduction. I also said that I had no other choice but to follow the request as I didn’t want to be made redundant. This letter was not followed up by the employer. Later I had a number of meetings with him asking him to reconsider and let me work at least 4 days a week (like the other people who were affected. The reduction in hours of employees was not fair and equitable across the business. I was the only one having reduced hours by 40%) He refused and I made a claim to the Tribunal. The tribunal is to take place in 4 weeks time. The department I work in is in the top two in terms of bringing money to the business. earlier I posted a question about this, and it's sad to say, but there's been no change- My husband's mother and step-father are perfectly fine to exploit our morals for their own gain. My husband is owed at least $10K by his step-father for work he did to help pull his step-father's business out of debt. When the time came to make good on the deal, his step-father said he wasn't paying anything. Through all the arguments and pleading, my mother in law has sat back and allowed her husband to rob us of money we need to provide for our family, all beause she refuses "to get in the middle of it". Hi. I am very frustrated with contacting Yahoo to correct a BIG problem. Somehow, they have inserted a statement in my local listing that says my "business may be closed." My business is not closed, has never been closed, and hopefully will not ever be closed. I moved the business about one year ago which is not the same as being closed. I don't know how this happened, but I believe it to be very irresponsible of Yahoo to post such HARMFUL information without contacting the officials or at least me first to verify. I have written to the "help" departments that would seem to be concerned with all of this and all I get are form-letter email replies that don't change anything. I would like this DAMAGING statement removed from my local listing. I get no results from email contact. This might be stupid, but that there is a girl online who I grew fond of over the years. A couple of months ago or more we got into an argument ,which isn't uncommon, and after that grew completely distance. I apologized multiple times, and she accepted it. Two months ago I was let go from my job because my boss was having financial difficulties and had to let the bottom of the totem pole go, which was me. I filed for unemployment thinking I would have no problem getting it since I was not fired for misconduct or something like that. Then I get a denial letter! The man denied me unemployment even though I did nothing wrong. He went with trying to blame it on me being late to work, and admitted to the UI office my time cards that had maybe 5 late times on them, no more than 10 minutes. But I know he didn't care about it, he never asked why I had been late because I was very rarely late. It was never an issue. Late last year everyone at my work signed a contract with him stating if we received 3 major infractions (for something such as a no call no show to work) or 6 minor infractions (some sort of minor insubordination) in a 6 month period we would be terminated. I have never received an infraction, ever. So I am thinking, what the heck? I didn't do anything wrong and he's denying me for no reason? I thought maybe he was just trying to be a jerk, and didn't want to have to put more in his UI account or something. I appealed the first time, then the phone hearing was this recent monday, he didn't call! I found out later that he had the day wrong and thought the hearing was tuesday. I'm thinking good! He didn't call, it's all my word now. I explain to the appeal officer my side of the case, saying everything I wrote here today. Then tuesday night my bf, who still works at the place I was fired from, said my boss wants to give me money to withdraw my claim. I tell my bf I don't want to work it out I want the unemployment I am rightfully owed. He said he doesn't like his offer either, and I express this is bribery and I am not sinking to my former boss's dirty level. Even later former boss calls my phone! Leaves me a voicemail saying "I'm not doing this unemployment thing, the implications are too great for me, I want to give you some money to help you out, but I won't let you have unemployment." My bf had the convo with him in person. Boss offered $1000 to have me stop my claim, he wanted me to call the UI office and tell them I retract my statements and drop it. No way!! That's not even 10% of what I should get from unemployment. His reason for denying me was that it will raise his rates for next year. My bf will testify to this. I also have the voicemail now on my computer and a memory card so I cannot lose it. I need help writing the newest appeal letter. One containing the new information about the "bribe". I knew it wasn't because I was late, that was ridiculous. If it was because I was late a lot of other people would be gone before me. He hurriedly left his room which happens to be in the most prestigious building on the island, the Arcale Building. Time could not move fast enough as he walked toward the end of the building. He could see the conference building just beyond the exit doors. As he left Arcale Hall, he saw his best friend, Nathan Daniels, awaiting him at the conference building; he was smiling. Nathan is one of the best scientists on the island, and discovered the limitless eco-friendly fuel: Feedun, which immediately made him a winner of a Nobel Prize and one of the most respected men on the entire island. The pair started whispering to each other while trying to hear what was happening in the conference room at the same time. Their must be about 15 people around this table, even though there is only three politicians from the US government on the comm link,” said an astounded Jamie. The entire board all nodded to this and brought their briefcase onto the table and opened them up pulling out neatly stacked letters and such, but Jamie was so excited about today he forgot to organise himself and yanked out a mess of papers embarrassingly. The board of directors answered to this with a slight frown and show of dissapointedness while looking at the boy. “Uhhhh, w-w-well, I’ve come today to talk to you about our island” Jamie said shakily, his hands began to sweat and his mouth was as dry as a desert. He quickly arose and began to get dressed as he continued to focus on July 19th, encircled in red....."Today……..it’s finally arrived…" he said aloud, almost startled by his own voice. Today could possibly change the entire course of his life. Jamie Randall, an eager twenty-eight year old, is finally permitted to confront government officials with his petition. He hurriedly left his room which happens to be in the most prestigious building on the entire island, the Arcale Building. Time could not move fast enough as he walked toward the end of the building. He could see the conference building just beyond the exit doors. As he left Arcale Hall, he saw his best friend, Nathan Daniels, awaiting him at the conference building; he was smiling. Nathan is one of the best scientists on the island, and discovered the limitless eco-friendly fuel: Feedun, which immediately made him a winner of a Nobel Prize and one of the most respected men on the island. The pair started whispering to each other while trying to hear what was happening in the conference room at the same time. Ok, well i've basically written a tiny bit of the prologue for a story I call "Arcale" It tells you the story of how a few people (say....3/4?) survive a nuclear explosion (like Chernobyl) that happens on their island. But as a twist i've set it in 1964, and have the island 500yrs more advanced than anyone other country (kinda like rapture but not underwater). The date was 19th July 1964; a young lad by the name of Jamie Randall, 28, had just awoken and got dressed. It was the most important day of his life because, today, he was allowed to petition to the US Government; he was walking down the Arcale Hall, part of the Arcale Building, one of the most prestigious buildings on the entire island. Prologue Four photos were laid out on the dusty bed. Four people stared up at an old woman looking down upon them, they were smiling and she wasn’t. Her face was crinkled and her lips pursed. It was as if it hurt her to look at these pictures, even though they were of total strangers - strangers that she would soon meet. The old woman with the purple and burnt-orange head scarf had been waiting in the small dank room for hours, planning; making sure everything was perfect so nothing could go wrong. The ceremony had to go as planned, like it had done exactly sixty years ago. She remembered back to that night, how she had been so beautiful and young; A lively girl in a little black dress who was celebrating her seventeenth birthday with her boyfriend. There had been about to head off to a ball when she changed her mind. She was going to follow her heart, and follow the instructions of the anonymous letter that had arrived earlier that day. She wasn’t sure if her boy had been upset by this turn of events, because she never saw him again. She had escaped her friends and caught a train to inner Melbourne where it took almost an hour to find the destination she was looking for... she was a little bit surprised at what she had found but was shocked at what those people had told her... A tear fell upon one of the frozen smiling faces. It was a girl with blonde hair and grey eyes, she looked so happy and peaceful, and the old woman preyed that these kids wouldn’t make the same mistakes that she did when she found out her fate, like these youths were going to in a matter of hours... Chapter one – Bonnie Never in a million years would I have imagined my parents forgetting my birthday, but they did. I woke up to a quite house; my bedroom was filling with morning light which shone on my white chest of drawers and four-poster bed. I had been working towards a new look in my room for over a year, saving up my money which I got from working at a fruit shop down the road. It was finally starting to look like me – clean, peaceful with a creative flair. All the furniture was white, and the accessories were mostly greens and yellows. I had asked for a new desk, and to be honest, I expected it, but when I entered the kitchen where mum was sitting by herself sipping coffee I knew I didn’t get it – or anything. “Morning mum,” I said sitting down at the table too, smiling. And I knew instantly by the look on her face that she was horrified at herself. It took her a moment to actually gather any words together. She straightened out her dressing gown, took another gulp of coffee and then stuttered for a while before saying. “Happy seventeenth Bon!” I was shocked. But I didn’t have the heart to be angry. I just sat there, looking around our spacious wood-interior kitchen, in silence. She studied me for a moment, her grey eyes which were so much like my own showed guilt, her brow was creased. Then she sighed. “You’re a good girl you know, and your father and I thought that because you’re older now, and you deserve a present that you want, you can choose your own. Your dad will give you the money.” If I was any normal person who didn’t always feel bad after arguing I would have jumped down my mum’s throat at this point. It was a good excuse, I give her that, but really – I was older, like she had said, I can tell when something has been made up on the spot. I would have also pulled my short and plump dad back into the room where he had appeared whistling tune only moments before. “Thanks mum... and I know you and dad have been caught up in the business at the moment, so it’s okay that you forgot my birthday. I’m going to have a shower.” I left her with a stunned expression and her coffee, and went back up to my room. It wasn’t exactly the best start to my birthday, my seventeenth birthday which I had been working towards for months. I wanted it to be the best day... I wanted it to be the start of a new me, a more courageous and exciting me. I guess it’s true that a leopard can’t change his spots – for now... Our house is modern and spacious. I am an only child so there’s plenty of room and because mum’s a clean freak nothing is ever out of place. It’s not clinical though, it still feels like home in every possible way. The bathroom was tiled and a double shower was set in the corner near the cedar bench. I walked over to the mirror and I was about to examine my face when I got this sudden surge. I needed to be wet, near water. I had to soak my pale skin; I wanted the small water droplets to roll down my stomach and to eventually soak through... I ran a bath as quickly as I could and stripped down to nothing. I tied my wavy blonde hair into a bun before letting it out again – I wanted every part of my body to be soaking in water. what do you think? thanks :)) more

I'm attending a business school to earn an A.S. degree in accounting. On Tuesday we had a fill in for one of our classes. I was talking to the girls around me because usually this class, student sucess, has been about 20 minutes long. Before going to class my friend had said she had an appt at 4:30 and said she hopes we get out early like normal, but of course we had a full period that day. We just kinda laughed and she said figures I make my appt and this would happen..This woman turns around and flips out on ME! Asking me if I had a problem and telling me I could leave. She gave me this huge attitude, disrespected me and I was embarassed to have her talking to me like that. I tried to explain myself to her and in a childish way she said that this was her class and again if I didn't like how she ran it I could leave. I was fuming because I didnt do anything. Then she asked me my name and said thank you! again with this huge attitude. So I went to my advisor and her boss and told them what she did to me and how i felt she owed me an apology because I did nothing. So their are 3 other advisors, her and me in a room to have a sit down to discuss this. She sat there and lied, turned things around and I ended up getting lectured about things I never said or did. I have a whole class of witnesses to what she did, but they didn't want to hear that. I felt totally ganged up on. I wasn't allowed to defend myself or have any witnesses on my side and then in their they said to me what did you expect would happen to Ms. M? I dont know what I expected to happen but I thought something should have been done about the way she treats people. I was thinking of unenrolling but I have another advisor who loves me and told me that I'm a great student, I have A's in all of my classes and got asked to be in the ABG, which is for high honors and to please not quit. She also told me, in confidence of course, that they have numerous issues with her and because her boss and her bosses boss are all good friends nothing happens to her and maybe I should write a letter to dept of education. My friend and I really want to earn money to save up on things we really like. I am a a fairly good artist, and I always wanted to create a comic book series. I need a certain software and tools for that. I also want to save money for college, or maybe a future car. My family can't get all that, so my friend and I decided to start a business! Today, we brainstormed a lot of ideas and we both realized that we had good gardening skills. So we wanted to do yard service. A few hours later, I found out that it can be difficult to maintain a business, and I was worried that people won't take us seriously. Besides, I'm a short person, so people might think I'm a clueless kid. I want to be a businesswoman when I grow up, and I want to look back at this when I'm 30 and knowing that I was a serious, hardworking girl. I would also know that this is where I started, and I can look at my successful business in the future. My problem is, I don't know the right way to advertise, how much money I should charge, how to deal with stingy people, how to make this all work! I'm also having trouble on what we should name our business. We both have different names and if I try to combine them, it will look like a mutant heap of letters. Of course, I'm not going to call this "Amanda's Yard Service" (My names Amanda) because what about Izzy, my friend? As for advertising, should we print out fliers and put them in every mailbox in our neighborhood? We don't have colored ink! Or should we advertise in a different way? I went to the Marine recruiter a year and a half ago. I have always wanted to be a Marine. I lost sixty pounds on my own during college and got into great shape. I graduated from college after getting a degree in business. I went to my local Marine recruiting station. I went to MEPs and got a 97 on my ASVAB. The next day the recruiter wanted me to go to medical section of MEPs and wanted me to swear in that day. That's when the weirdness started. They wanted me to swear in open contract, I have a heart murmur and that is quite noticeable. They wanted me to not mention it. A heart murmur can be an automatic DQ at MEPs. The morning he came to pick me up for MEPs I told him no thanks took my paperwork back and he left. They didn't tell me about my career options or the fact that I could become an officer. He called me the next day and I got the voice message from him. I called him back go this voice mail and said thanks in the message but I am not at this time ready to enlist. He called me once or twice after and I didn't respond. I realized how much I wanted to be a Marine. I went out and got a full medical work up including tons of tests from my cardiologist. I am waiting for my cardiologist to write a letter saying my heart is fine for basic. I also lost another ten pound and kept running a lot this winter. I want to go back an enlist.
