War over web business
A fierce price war looms in the Internet business as mobile phone operator Safaricom rolls out its broadband Internet access countrywide.
The mobile firm put traditional Internet Service Providers (ISPs) on notice on Monday, promising to give them a run for their money in the business they have dominated for more than a decade.
We are moving beyond mobile voice to broadband Internet access. We expect that some of our traditional ISP providers will be under pressure, Mr Fred Moturi the companys chief officer Enterprise, told The Standard.
Moturi said Safaricoms entry into the Internet business is informed by the need to reduce low Internet penetration and exorbitant charges.
Internet connection fees have roughly been fixed at around Sh10, 000 a month and it is believed that cutting prices will bring the service within the reach of more people. more
Business organization backs effort to dismantle gambling loss limit
Missouri's largest business organization endorsed Monday a November referendum to abolish the state's gambling loss-limits law.
The initiative eliminates Missouri's $500 loss limit, which would allow Missouri, supporters say, to compete for gamblers with neighboring states.
Repealing the one-of-its-kind and "outdated" law would protect more than 12,000 jobs and provide more than $100 million in new funding for schools, the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry said in a statement.
"Voting yes is important for our schools and for our economy," said Daniel Mehan, the chamber's president and CEO, in a statement. "The Schools First Initiative will help us keep visitors, jobs and revenues here in Missouri."
The state gaming tax paid by casinos currently generates nearly $300 million a year in school funding. more

Open Question: Freelance, private consulting for non-profits - Tax deductions?
I do private consulting (freelance) for a local non-profit as well as some various other businesses and was wondering if it's best to continue collecting money personally or setup a company to do this business through. I was thinking about setting up an L.L.C (South Carolina). Also, would I be able to write anything off on my taxes by offering "discounts" or the like to non-profits? Thanks in advance. moreResolved Question: What's the name of the list of codes for business activities?
I want to set up a non-profit organization that will be educating people about right choices in life (like eating, exercising etc.) and need to find a code for that kind of business activity. Any suggestions? Thanks!! moreResolved Question: Skill sets for marketing director/business man?
I'm a junior in high school. I interned this past summer for a local theatre's marketing and development department and like it, but it was non-profit work which I didn't like. A few months later I'm beginning to worry that I won't be able to succeed in this type of field because my grades in my math classes aren't too hot. Mind you, I make high B's to low A's at a magnet high school ranked 36th in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, but I'm still concerned. What skill sets are necessary to have in order to succeed in marketing? Business? I'm a very personable person, hard-working, diligent, detail-oriented, sports savvy, athletic, a decent writer, organized, etc. I'm also very good at organizing events. This usually entails getting sponsorships, working out logistics, personnel, etc....I don't mean school dances either, but benefits and bike races locally. If not marketing or business, based on what I've told you, suggestions for something else maybe? Thank you in advance. moreResolved Question: Chances of getting into USC, Stanford, UCLA, Columbia...?
So, I did this a while ago but didn't get any responses; here I go again! I really would appreciate some feedback this time! I am currently a junior in a Sacramento Area public high school. High school is okay, average. *Freshman: 4.0 GPA (No AP's offered - Took all CP classes) CP English, Student Govt, Spanish 1, Biology, Geography, Geometry, Health/Safety. *Sophomore: 4.2 GPA (Took the 1 AP class offered, 1 Honors, and all CP's) AP European History, Honors English, CP Chemistry, Student Govt, Spanish 2, Spanish 3, Algebra 2. *Junior: so far 4.33 GPA: Spanish 4, Anatomy/Physiology, Student Govt, AP Art History, AP Lang and Comp, Honors Pre-Calc, US History and Sociology at Community College. *Senior: probably about a 4.5 GPA; Expected Schedule: AP Spanish, AP Human Geography, AP Govt/Econ, AP Literature, AP Psychology, Student Govt, AP Stats, and 2 more Community College Classes *Top 5% of class *15/515 Class Rank (expected to rise to top 5 or 10) *ASB Vice President of my school (ASB President next year??) *Intern in California State Senate *Capitol Hill/D.C. Congressional Page *Varsity Track and Field athlete *Speech and Debate Champion *Youth Commissioner in my city's government which handles over $700,000 that is dispersed to local non-profit organizations *Started my school's Junior State of America chapter this year, where I am President *CSF member *20+ hours of community service with a local Children's hospital *20+ hours at Elementary schools with Special Education Students *20+ hours at local Retirement Home *Extensive work with Make-A-Wish Foundation *20+ hours at local Rehabilitation facility *20+ hours with local campaigns, and a bit of time with other various organizations. *EXCELLENT personal letters of recomendation PSAT last year as a sophomore: around 170 (but very high in reading/comprehension), with literally no preparation. I took a sample one with kaplan that was very accurate with last year's PSAT results and recieved a 198; just took the real one last month and pretty sure I got over 200. I am extremely passionate about politics, so I would like to study Political Science and minor in International Relations/Business. Possibly minor in Spanish. So far, in order of preference, my lists are: Reaches, partially realistic: 1. Stanford 2. Harvard 3. Princeton 4. Yale Realistic: 1. USC 2. UCLA 3. UCB 4. NYU 5. Columbia 6. Georgetown 7. Pepperdine Do I have a chance at any of these schools? Am I on track? Is there anything specific I can do to set myself apart from other applicants? Any other suggestions? *And I know it may help that I live in California for the UC's, and I know they say it doesn't matter but for what it's worth I am 1/2 Mexican, 1/4 Armenian, and 1/4 Yogoslavian. ALSO... hypothetical situation: I got into USC and Stanford. Both cost the same. I LOVE LA, not so much the Bay Area. I want to pursue an acting career also, so obviously the best place for that is LA. I feel like I will enjoy going to USC more but then again I don't know much about student life at Stanford. Is it worth it the bite the bullet and go for the prestige and so-called better education, or should I go to USC and pursue my other interests? moreResolved Question: How do you start a non-profit Agency?

some of the founding fathers of our country like george washington, thomas jefferson, and alexander hamilton preached that this country should be a free market, capitalist country that follows the constititution and should have a non intervention foreign policy. today is the OPPOSITE of that. 1. George Washington(foreign policy)- george washington was probably the biggest supporter of a non-intervention foreign policy. while jefferson and hamilton were debating to support britain or france, washington remained neutral and chose NOT to intervene. As he left office he read his farewell address(which is great) and he mostly said that the interests and conflicts in the rest of the world does not concern the interests of the U.S. he warned against getting involved in other country's affairs and against alliances. and hes right because alliances can destroy a nation's soverignty and he said that the U.S. can remain neutral because "our greatest ally is the atlantic ocean". Today we are in NATO, UN, we have bases in germany, japan, and south korea, and are policies in the mid east are the wrong policies. we should be going after terrorists and destroying terror NOT nation building and policing the world like we are doing. Washington would not like this at all. 2.Thomas Jefferson(power of the feds) ik that jefferson may have gone beyond his own power during his presidency but he was all about for most of his life folllowing the constitution and leaving many rights to the states. The feds should only have the power for trading, tarriffs, own currency, war, treaties, and dispute between states. today the feds have control over income tax(IRS is stupid and the feds should be funding on budget cuts, excise taxes, and tarrifs), EDUCATION, and even abortion and potentially gay marriage. The feds cant go beyond their power like this! 3. Alexander Hamilton(economy) when hamilton was the first treasury secetary, he preached and had set up a capitalist, free market economy where the people run it(especially the wealthy), competition is strong, and the upper class is on top of all this by competing with each other for profit and revenue and creating jobs for poeple. TODAY, we have a nearly socialist economy where the governement is starting to own businesses and are getting involved in the market world where their actions are decreasing competition. sharing wealth, tax burden on wealth,Bailout plan and potential healthcare plan are prime examples. DO you agree??i know that the world has changed but our greatest allies are the oceans. if we better secure countries then its more possible to have a non intervention foreign policy and we dont have to have alliances. alliances just prove to haunt you. also capitalism is the best type of system and socialism is a system that the U.S. is NOT meant to have and its an unfair system that doesnt work. also y do the feds have to have so much power??? listen to ron paul, he knows his stufffeds shouldnt have control over education, its a state issuealso providing healthcare will decrease the competition for healthcare in the market and whenever you have a monopoly of something which is what the governement providing healthcare is, then thats not good moreResolved Question: I am starting my own non-profit organization and website. Are these good names?
My non-profit will be spiritually based, The program will focus on helping girls and young women with building their self esteem as well as building their knowledge of the world around them and prepare them for the future. There would be workshops on ettiquette, creating business plans, choosing a school/career, relationships with family/friends and future partners, etc. applying spiritual principles. It will be open to anyone who wanted to be a part of it but I definitely want to work with at risk youth. As a young adult, many things they will encounter I already have so its like a big sister little sister thing lol I never had sisters. I intend to be hands on with counseling them too. My thinking is these young ladies are "hidden treasures" or "diamonds in the rough" but that is clique! Hopefully you get what I am trying to get at...prefer a double meaning name that ppl have to think about. Which name of the following is best?? The choices are below. Crowned Jewels (does that make sense? I really like it) Rare Jewels The King's Jewels Anointed to Wait (my mom came up with that/my book title) Charity Jewel Foundation(thats my name) I wanted to use "GEMS" and "Crown Jewels" but it was taken and ROSES (Reaching Out and Suporting Every Sister). I am trying to purchase a domain for my website today so it has to be something that is not used. Thank you. I kind of did not want to use my name per se I would prefer crowned jewels...its like not only are you a diamond in the rough you will be set apart and deemed royalty in the spiritual sense moreResolved Question: Can you believe that as of Sunday, ACORN is refunded by the Federal Government? The defunding was only 'til?
the end of this month. Radical Left-Wing Group ACORN To, AGAIN, Receive MILLIONS of Taxpayer Dollars Congressional Cut-Off of ACORN Funding a Sham: Tell Congress to Cut Their Funds PERMANENTLY! Dear Friend, You probably heard that, as a result of the overwhelming scandals that the radical left-wing group "ACORN" is involved in, and after a HUGE public outcry, Congress recently voted to de-fundthem. WE WERE LIED TO! Congress only voted to de-fund ACORN for ONE MONTH -- which means we have to fight hard AGAIN to FORCE them to defund this far-left group... PERMANENTLY! TELL CONGRESS TO DEFUND THE RADICAL LEFTIST GROUP "ACORN" PERMANENTLY: SEND YOUR FAXES NOW! "ACORN" -- the "Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now" -- is a far-left group of "community organizers" that has not only worked extra hard to support liberal causes and get Barack Hussein Obama elected -- they broke numerous laws in the process. And YOUR taxpayer dollars helped them to do it! During the last two election cycles, ACORN has been under investigation for election fraud and related offenses in nearly 20 states, for crimes ranging from false voter registrations and illegal voting, to identity theft and records tampering, to using felons as registration workers. And, recently, a private undercover "sting" operation showed ACORN employees were willing to help human sex slave traffickers to run their illegal "businesses" (including child prostitution) -- and how to dodge having to pay taxes, on top of it! According to the Employment Policies Institute, ACORN is a non-profit (but not federally tax-exempt) organization at the center of a vast web of groups run by long-time anti-corporate activist Wade Rathke and a handful of his closest allies. It operates in at least 38 states, as well as in Canada, Mexico, and Peru, and is integral in a fight to prevent Foreign Direct Investment in India. Rathke said ACORN plans to continue its growth by adding offices in 100 new cities over the next five years, after seeing 100 percent growth in offices between 2003 and 2004. ACORN claims 200,000 member families (though member dues only account for eight percent of the organization's massive budget), and represents approximately 80,000 union members. It operates "social justice" radio stations, community television groups, and a magazine. It runs home mortgage and tax counseling centers, a voter-mobilization organization, left-wing schools, a furniture company, a consulting firm, and a law/lobbying firm. It's funded by YOU AND ME -- to the tune of MILLIONS OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS YEARLY! In fact, ACORN has received more than $53 million in direct taxpayer funding since 1994, and countless millions more through grants from financial institutions throughout the country. And, bills passed this year could give ACORN access to as much as $10 billion more. The American people were so upset with the extent of ACORN's crimin al activities that we demanded that Congress de-fund this radical leftist group. Last month, Congress was forced to do so -- but they TRICKED us, and now ACORN is set to start getting taxpayer funding again, starting on November 1st! And that means WE have to take action NOW! TELL CONGRESS TO DEFUND THE RADICAL LEFTIST GROUP "ACORN" PERMANENTLY: SEND YOUR FAXES NOW! Shortly after five videos aired on national television, showing ACORN staffers advising people how to falsify tax forms and seek illegal benefits for young girls from El Salvador, to be illegally imported for a child prostitute ring, the Senate voted 83-7 and the House of Representatives voted 345-75 to cut off all funds to ACORN. The Census Bureau, which was set to let ACORN help them with the upcoming national count (which determines distribution of Congressional seats!), cut ties with the group last month. The IRS says it will no longer associate with ACORN through its tax assistance program either. So we're all good, right? No more taxpayer dollars for ACORN -- right? Hooray! NOT SO FAST. Last week, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-MN) revealed that federal funding will again start flowing to ACORN -- at midnight, Halloween night. TRICK OR TREAT! As Representative Bachmann pointed out, "when the clock hits midnight on Halloween night, the spigot of federal tax money will open wide open again... and they'll be back in the money." That's OUR money they'll be scooping up into their big plastic pumpkins -- to continue funding their radical far-left agenda! CONGRESS WILL GET AWAY WITH THIS TRAVESTY -- unless we take action, expose what they've done, and FORCE them to do the RIGHT thing! So, we've set up our website to enable you to send "Blast Faxes" to every single U.S. Congressman and Senator AT ONCE, demanding that they DEFUND this leftist "community organizer" group permanently! For about what it would cost you in time and telephone charges, you can send Blast Faxes to Democrats, Republicans, Independents -- EVERYONE in the U.S. Congre moreResolved Question: A number of terms are listed below:?

For the Fitness Centre Case Study construct user requirements. Can you give me some help and tell me exactly what i am meant to do. Walford Fitness Centre includes a gymnasium and resources to run various classes such as Yoga, Pilates, Aerobics and Circuit Training. You do not need to be a member to use the gymnasium or attend classes. Non-members are charged a fee each time they use facilities at the centre. At present, there are two membership types or categories - ‘Premium’ and ‘Gold’. • ‘Premium’ members pay an annual fee and a discounted rate for each visit to the gymnasium. They pay a fee before attending any fitness classes. • ‘Gold’ membership costs more (currently six times the ‘Premium’ rate). ‘Gold’ members do not pay any further charge to use the gymnasium or take part in classes (these are all included in their membership fee). A potential member needs to complete an application form to join Walford Fitness Centre. Once the application is processed, a member is provided with a membership card that has the member’s name and membership number. Currently the membership number also appears as a bar code. A member may attend as many gym sessions or as many classes as they want to. Each time a member enters the Fitness Centre the membership card must be presented to the receptionist. The receptionist scans the card into the computer system to make sure that the person is a current member, record attendance and in the case of a ‘Premium’ member the system would also display the fee to be collected. Usually a ‘Premium’ member would pay at this stage. However, sometimes a member might forget the membership card and the membership record may be retrieved using a name search. It is not unusual to have members arriving having forgotten their wallet. If they do not have money a member might still be permitted to use the facilities, the amount owing being recorded on the system. Any money owed would be displayed when a membership card is scanned on a following visit. There is a pre-set limit to the amount of credit that can be allowed by the system. Membership may lapse or be terminated by member request. Each training session is identified by a code which has an associated description, instructor’s name (if any) and membership fees. Each working day is also divided into time slots. Each time slot has been assigned a charge to use the equipment. For example, it is cheaper to use the fitness centre before 09:00 as this is considered ‘off peak’. The ‘peak’ rate tariff/charge begins at 09:00. Weekend time slots come with a higher charge. Irrespective of whether it is a training session or a daily time slot, for the staff at the centre it is a ‘resource’. A manger needs to set up each of these resources initially and amend the entry when there are changes to the charges. The centre sends out letters to members asking them to renew their membership one-month before membership expires. Usually, members would renew their membership on receipt of the letter and there is no provision for sending any reminders. When a member presents a card and if membership had expired the system would display the amount of money it costs to renew the membership. The member is given the option to pay the fee and continue his membership when the membership record is re-activated. Although membership fees are relatively low, there are people who find it inconvenient to pay the fee as a single payment. Because the centre sees itself as a service to the local community and not a profit making business, such members may be permitted to pay the fee in two or three instalments spread over a few months. Expired membership records that remain in the system are archived after three months for audit purposes. After that if a previous member wishes to re-join, they must complete a new membership application. It is not unusual for the membership to increase substantially at the beginning of a new year as people make resolutions to look after their health. Unfortunately, a significant number of these newcomers drop out after a few attendances. At the end of each day the duty manager requires two reports from the system. One such report relates to the money collected that day for reconciliation and safe keeping. The money collected on a given day is banked the following morning. The duty manager also receives an activity report showing attendance figures. Some transactions are through credit cards and bank debit cards. These cards are scanned and the transactions processed remotely by an agency. A senior manger receives a weekly report containing all transactions and attendance figures. These figures are important as some training sessions may need to be discontinued or amalgamated with others if the depending on numbers attending. Serious question. "Mr. Obama sat in New York as chairman of the Security Council — a first for an American president, meant to symbolize his commitment to rebuilding the Council’s tattered authority." http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/25/world/25prexy.html The president did not just decide to chair a rare council summit; he also set the September 24 agenda — as is the prerogative of the leader holding the gavel for the month. The rotating chairmanship of the council goes to the U.S. this month. The normal course of business would have U.S. Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice take the gavel. However, this time will be different. Obama has decided to put HIMSELF in the drivers seat, and will preside over global nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament talks slated to begin September 24th. But, the U.S. Constitution States that: U.S. Constitution - Article 1 Section 9 - No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince or foreign State. No U.S. President has ever served as Chairman of the U.N. in it's 65 year history. The U.N is a foreign state (a collection of foreign states actually). Did Congress grant approval for Obama to receive this title (Chairman of the U.N. Security Council) and I missed it? Is it Constitutional for Obama to be President of the United States AND Chairman of the U.N. Security Council at the same time? Is this a conflict of interest? Has Obama violated Article 1 Section 9 of the U.S. Constitution? Before the Leftists start screaming "racism" or the Conservatives start jumping on the band-wagon...please think it out. This is a serious question I have here. Thanks in advance for any thoughtful answers I receive. moreResolved Question: Salary while starting a non-profit charity?
Over the last few years I have developed a very rough draft of a business plan and mission statement for a non-profit charity to help veterans out in various ways. My current employer is in the process of closing down and money may be very tight for quite some time. I have looked into getting fiscal sponsership to help start this up, but I am concerned that I will not be able to collect any sort of salary for a very long time while getting the foundation set up. I never thought that money would be an issue during this, but unfortunately, it may stop me from doing this... Do you know maybe how long it would be before a salary would be collected? moreVoting Question: Looking for free IT Help Desk Ticket Software?

I'm not a catholic though I attend a RC church and am considering converting to the faith. I'm in the process of setting up a business selling hand made rosaries (Rosaries for Peace) with all profits to go to Amnesty International. You'd think that'd be a good thing - but I emailed a big catholic literature supplier called cenacle.co.uk - and they told me they would not be prepared to supply me with rosary instruction leaflets because of Amnesty's position on abortion. I know the catholic position on abortion - though at the level of the 'local church' I find that each individual takes their own view on issues such as contraception, abortion, homosexuality and so on. I'm shocked at the response I've received to be honest. The rosary is increasingly popular with non-catholics and there are many more open minded catholics about...but I'm really disappointed in this response. Does anyone have any advice? Are there any charities that Catholics deem worthy?? It's certainly turned me off the church. I'll continue to attend but where I was hoping to become a full member, I really don't think I would like to now. So gutted.I found this link about what happened that caused the church to boycott Amnesty: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/politics/amnesty-to-defy-catholic-church-over-rape-victims-abortion-rights-461358.html After reading that, I'm sticking to my guns - we're not talking about abortion as a late contraception here - a lot of these people are victim's of the most horrendous abuse - it would be inhumane to let them go through more trauma in my opinion. Perhaps eventually the CC will realise that sometimes things aren't just black and white: they may have standards and rules that they base on ideals, but the world isn't always ideal and sometimes we have to take each case on its merit.Robert C - I wondered if you could point me in the direction of the statistics/facts you've learnt about Amnesty's policy on abortion?? moreResolved Question: Non-Stop W...Bankers: Somebody is making a profit and getting bonuses and it aint us ?

I have a corporate business license currently and have a DBA name for my design company that I'm still working on getting up and running. Recently my wife and I found a cause that we would like to support and want to start up a Non Profit business just for this one cause. What I need to know is: Since I already have a corporation license and my tax ID number can I just set up another DBA name for the non profit business and file the appropriate non profit paperwork for the DBA name or do I need to set up a different corporation and register the corporation as non profit? Our non profit venture is going to be purely built from donations and I want to make sure that I do everything proper and legal, but I really don't want to file for a different corporation license if I don't have to. I'm just not sure if I can have one corporation with two DBA names (one being for profit and the other being non profit). I live in Illinois if that makes a difference. Thanks moreResolved Question: Would you vote for me? What party am I?
I am a conservative on fiscal issues but on other issues I differ: 1. Taxes: The less the better on everything but we do need some sort of tax structure to pay for our government. I believe in one 'fair tax" system 2. Healthcare: I agree that something needs to be done about healthcare; it is out of control in this country. I do NOT believe the answer is socialized medicine. I would start by putting a cap/limitations on healthcare lawsuits and giving each family a tax credit (much bigger one than McCain talked about) for buying a policy. But then it would be MANDATORY that everyone buys their own policy no matter what (just like car insurance is mandatory) and you will get fined if you are not covered. I would deregulate the healthcare insurance system so that insurance companies would be more competitive in their pricing. I would also set up a scholarship/recruitment programs to encourage people to get degrees in medicine. We need more healthcare workers! 3. I am a Christian but would not force my ways down somebody's throat. It is irrelevant and against the constitution to do this. I do believe a high standard of morals no matter what religion you are. This is very important if you are in a leadership position. I would lead by example 4. Energy: I believe we need to tap into our natural resources, like natural gas and oil. Natural Gas is something I would target in a big way. Solar and Wind are okay but cannot be used everywhere in the country so more research on Nuclear would be my choice to make it safer to use. I would not pass a cap and trade to do this! I would come up with a tax credit system for businesses transitioning to "greener" methods of producing consumer products. I would map out a deadline date when all business would have to be "green" by or they would no longer get the tax credit and would have to shut down. Plain and simple. The cap and trade does not do enough to help with the environment. It just allows companies to keep producing carbon emissions by passing on the cost of their permits to the consumer OR move overseas and take jobs out of the USA. 5. Abortion: I do not believe in abortion unless extreme case such as rape or incest...or medical reasons for the mother's health. I understand that the government should not tell a woman what to do with her body..However, it is not the governments telling women to go out and have irresponsible sex. There are MANY methods of birth control now days. Abortion is murder, plain and simple. The government puts most murders in prison. 6. Gay Marriage- do not believe there is such a thing as gay marriage but would support some other form of "partnership" for gays so that they have equal rights. I do not believe it is my right to tell Gays how to live their lives but I also do not think they should try to force their lifestyle down my throat either. 7. Our huge deficit and weakened dollar: Something needs to be done about this serious issue that is growing worse daily. Even though I did not agree with McCain on a lot of things, I liked his idea of cutting government spending in half basically for several years so we could play "catch up". We also need to not have ANY pork spending. Sorry special interest groups, you need to raise your own money through non-profit. Something has to suffer when the deficit is this big, and creating tunnels for turtles/vs. preventing inflation or bankruptcy of our nation is really the priority right now. 8. Foreign Policy: I would not go around starting wars for no reason. Sorry Bush supporters. Iraq was not a very useful use of our tax dollars. I would spend lots of time visiting with all nation leaders. I would not ignore the UN (even thought they do seem useless at times). I would stand by our allies. I would stand very firm against countries that are unfriendly like N.Korea, Iran..etc. I WOULD support the military uprising in Honduras. No president should try what that guy did. Those are the countries, that if they DID provoke us through terrorism and/or an attack.... I would consider having a war..there would be a REASON. 9. Gun control- not sure how I feel about this one. I do believe we should have a right to bear arms and defend ourselves but I do think that there are too many gun related deaths in the USA. Would have to figure out how to regulate it. I just hate guns. I do not feel like it is "cool" to own one. I am sure I left something out. Like I said...I am conservative but I am not a "Gods and Guns" type conservative. What do you think? moreVoting Question: How can I get businesses/people to advertise on my web site?
I am setting up a web site for a cause. I thought perhaps we could advertise for people or businesses on our web site in exchange for some very small amount of money for each time someone visits the site, or simply for the amount of time we keep the ad up. It is now common knowledge that over 40 million Americans do not have health care. It is also common knowledge that most small businesses cannot afford private health care for the owners or their employees. Now the current private insurance system is clearly not working for that part of the citizenry. So if the current private insurance system is not working, and a public option is not going to work. Then what??? When you have Doctors Without Borders setting up in Tennessee and Virginia after touring the Third World it is really time to do something. It has been documented with story after story that profit driven health care is not only not working but detrimental as word gets out that people have died because their health plan didn't want to spend the money. Perhaps non-profit system is in order? Maybe a variation of the Canadian System. Is any available health care better than none at all? moreResolved Question: AM I GETTING THE BRUSH OFF AFTER MY INTERVIEW?
I had my third interview with a non-profit last Wednesday. I guess it went pretty well, but I was not given their business cards to send a thank you email, since they were rushing off to another meeting. They told me they had a couple of other people to interview, so I waited until yesterday to contact the HR recruiter who set everything up (I never once spoke to the hiring team before Wednesday) and thanked her the interview, and to let me know what the status was. No response. That was yesterday at 1 pm. Could they still be making a decision, or should I take this as a blatant rejection? Hi:) I am preparing a presentation as my coursework. Could you help me and check my mistakes. Thank you for your help. "Benchmarking Benchmarking provides a “picture” of the performance of a particular business and helps to understand where a business is in relation to other businesses and standards. If the business is not doing well in relation to different business then they may decide to make changes in order to make improvements. All businesses should aspire to perform as good as the best organisations in an industry. Benchmarking can be also used to compare the employees’ performance to national standards. According do performance of different companies employers may set level of performance for their employees and try to mach it with national standards. Benchmarking can be used as a tool for improving performance of business and quality of products or services that a business provides. I need to start the interviewing process for a new personal assistant. Here are the details as I would provide in the ad. Can you tell me what category to put it under to get the most responses? *Must have good background and references *Must be willing to work through the Military EFMP program *25 hours each month, must be flexible about when hours are taken *$15/hour Job duties: *Drive me to doctor's appointments, business meetings, and stores *Provide assistance with grocery shopping (reading labels, determingin which aisles to go down) *Read mail and other print documents as requested *Assist in non-profit organization as needed --phone calls to companies to set up appts. --organization of fundraiser items --Powerpoint presentations to present at meetings *Must be willing to do odd jobs as needed (these would include assisting with laundry, vacuuming, checking mail box, etc) *Must be willing to do jobs on one's own, as I have days when I am unable to be mobile. Such tasks you must be willing to do on your own include grocery shopping from a detailed list, checking mail, making and canceling appts.) The job is, as I said, for 25 hours a month, $375/month. It would be a great job for a SAHM with school age children, because I never require assistance very late in the day, nor very early. I can be flexible in what hours one is available as long as it is consistently the same (I do not want someone who will call me a week before and say 'I can only be available Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 to 2'). So, as you can see, this is a true personal assistant job. I need someone who is professional and flexible, who will do thhe job and not do their own stuff while we're out...I don't want to be waiting in the car while my assistant runs into the store to grab milk for her family...she can do that on her own time). What category should I put this under to get the most responses? Are there any other websites I should post to? I have had two personal assistants so far, so I can give references that I am a good employer and do not ask too much of my assistant, and never underpay or demand that s/he be available to me before his/her family. My essays intro and conclution needs serious help.. Any suggestions?
Please read it over, I will give 10 points to whoever can bring magic to this essay, because it's looking pretty bad right now.. I never realized how much automatic thinking is actually incorporated in our everyday lives. Although, there are many different types of automatic thinking that can occur, there are a few specific types in particular that happened at a previous job of mine. Automatic thinking effects so many people and most of us never even realize when it happens. In a telemarketing job that I held for over one year, I made phone calls to different states in order to raise money for a non-profit organization. This organization held events called "Jail and Bail" throughout the country at local restaurants, and anybody from these cities could participate. A fake jail cell was set up and while people pretended to be in jail, and their friends paid money to the organization to bail them out. There was also a free lunch, games, and prizes at the event. At work, we would call businesses and find out who exactly we were speaking to, then inform them that "someone from the community has turned you in to be arrested for the Jail and Bail event this year." I was amazed at the gullibility of these people, and when they asked who had turned them in, we said that the person "asked to remain chicken in the witness protection program." I felt bad about lying, but it is a smart way to get people to help with the program. The type of automatic thinking called “reciprocation” (explained in the handout) has a compelling effect on these people that decide to participate. When we tell them that there will be free lunch, and that they get to spend a ‘fun hour in jail with their friends’, they think we are going out of our way for to them have a good time. Therefore, when participators get to the jail, they really try their hardest to raise as much money as possible. If they left the jail raising no money after receiving the free lunch, they would feel terrible, and possibly embarrassed. That may even bring them to do the event next year and try even harder. “The human tendency for friendships and liking others” (quoted from the handout) explains big part of how this sales tactic works. When we called people, and they decide they wanted to be a part of the event, we would then ask them, “so who would you like to have as your cell mate?”, and they would give us names and numbers of people they know. It really made a big difference when we mentioned the name of that person turned them in. Commitment and consistency also plays a role in this situation. The people that have already done the event in previous years may feel like they have committed themselves to do it every year when we call them. We kept everyone’s name that has participated, and call them every year. This type of sales tactic gets so many people to do something they possibly would never even think of doing. If it wasn’t for these different types to automatic thinking, this tactic may not work at all. moreResolved Question: How can a shorten these two paragraphs into one?
They are starting to take up my whole essay and I need to shorten them into one to fit them.. any suggestions? There was a telemarketing job that I worked at for a little over a year. This type of job required us to call many people, in many different states, to help raise money for a non-profit organization. What this organization does is hold events, called “Jail and Bail” through out the US. They would hold these events at different local restaurants, where everyone from that particular city would meet up at a specific time and day. They would have a fake jail set up there, where the participants would then pretend like they are in jail for an hour, and have friends of theirs pay money to help bail them out. The money they raise then goes towards the organization. There is also a free lunch, games and prizes included at the “Jail and Bail” event. At work, we would have a list of business owners and managers names and numbers. What we did was call these businesses and who ever answered the phone, we would say “Hi, may I ask who I’m speaking with?”, unless they had said their name already when they answered. Then we would tell them our name and organization and say “someone from the community has turned you in to be arrested for the Jail and Bail event this year’. The amount of people that believed us truly amazed me. When they asked who had turned them in, we would just tell them that the person ‘asked to remain chicken in the witness protection program.’ Many times I felt bad about lying, but it’s a genius, yet simple tactic to make people want to help out. moreResolved Question: Is this well written? any help would be great! thank you!?

Do you have any solutions to close the loops or you just gonna insult?Mr. Police you are part of the problem.Advertisement for profit is not free speech. moreResolved Question: Would you possibly believe your jobs are NOT being sent overseas?
If I said your jobs are NOT being sent overseas and the US now underbids the lowest of the low of the Asian sweatshops you might say I'm crazy, but the reality is that your jobs are being outsourced not to foreign nations, but to the PIC, Prison Industrial Complex. Federal Prison Industries, FPI now sells inmate produced goods globally and to you in stores all over the land then simply labels them as "Made In China" and other foreign markets. Isn't that sweet? The job you might expect to be paid a living wage is sent to slaves in our prisons and 3/4ths of these slaves would never qualify for prison in Europe, but do in the US. How could a system that built thousands of new prisons possibly pay for them when tax payers could barely afford the ones we had in the 70's and 80s? Slave labor. I don't know how many remembered the big "outcry" to keep inmates in prison longer and longer and to stop releasing "violent inmates" back in the 80's and 90's, but that wasn't because crime rates went up and it wasn't because judges went soft on crime at all. Juries never decided to let the bad guys go scott-free because of some imagined sympathy. Instead we were sold the proverbial pig with lipstick on a grand scale. Oh sure, there was the occasional inmate who was released only to reoffend, but the numbers never told the truth because those were and still are the exception rather than the rule. Prosecutors didn't suddenly become better lawyers and defense layers didn't suddenly become blathering idiots. Judges had sentencing common sense yanked away and every crime now has a prescribed number of days, months or years on the books and many of them are so unreasonable you couldn't possibly believe them even if you read them. The truth is the public was sold a bill of sale and told we lived in constant fear of crime while our jobs were being outsourced to slave labor in American prisons. Ironically crime rates never really went up the entire time and FBI statistics prove that. At least 37 states have legalized the contracting out of prison labor to private corporations that set up operations inside state prisons. (The number is much higher now) The list of these prisons’ business clients reads like a Who’s Who of Corporate America: IBM, Boeing, Motorola, Microsoft, AT&T Wireless, Texas Instruments, Dell, Compaq, Honeywell, Hewlett-Packard, Nortel, Lucent Technologies, 3Com, Intel, Northern Telecom, TWA, Nordstrom, Revlon, Macy’s, Pierre Cardin, Target stores, and on and on and on and...on. In 1994 state prisoners produced over $900 million worth of goods and services. (God only can guess that number now) With the vast increase in corporate use of prison labor, this may very well be fifty or even a thousand times that now, but is surely in the hundreds of billions now. This does not include the value of services performed by prisoners just to maintain the prison. If the state had to pay outside labor even the legal minimum wage for this work, it would cost far more than the states pay prisoners. Many pay nothing for this prison maintenance work. There are at least seven distinct ways profits are wrenched out of this vast U.S. prison population: (1) Goods and services produced inside prisons by prison labor and sold by federal, state and local prisons/jails either to other government agencies, or on the open market or as exports abroad; (2) The contracting out of prison labor (both inside and outside prisons) to private corporations at slave labor wages; (3) The creation of vast new private prison corporations that profit both from housing inmates from state prisons as well as from using these inmates as forced prison labor; (4) The construction of new prisons, using both prison and non-prison labor; (5) Interest paid to banks and Wall Street investment houses on loans for the construction and upkeep of new prisons, both public and private; (6) The venders of supplies to prison industries; (7) The pay telephone racket set up inside prison walls by private phone companies for collect calls by prisoners to the outside world. All these profiteers combined comprise what is now commonly defined as the Prison-Industrial Complex, one of the biggest growth industries in the U.S. This multi-billion dollar industry has its own trade shows, conventions, web sites, mail order catalogues, direct marketing campaigns, architectural firms, construction firms, Wall Street investment houses, plumbing supply companies, food service companies, and outfits selling "prison-specific" products: bullet-resistant security cameras, padded cells in "vast color selections," belts and shackles ("special for juveniles"), body orifice security scanners, razor wire, etc., etc. This industry even has its own Yellow Pages, with a list of over 1,000 venders. All this is largely based on the non-violent offenders (two-thirds of the two million) who, by even European capitalist standards, should not be in prison at all. Here many inmates origina moreVoting Question: How to have a Non profit org inside a for profit LLC? ?
I have a Friend who wants to start a business that has 2 sides to it. On one side it is a traditional for profit LLC company. On the other side a non profit organization that accepts donations and invests the money in projects and in turn distributes "donation money" from the proceeds to approved charitable causes. The "donation money" will be derived from 2 sources. 1 - From proceeds of the projects of the non profit side of the business. 2 - A portion of the LLC's profits. Is there a way to set up a business structure in such a way that both companies can be "related" and not jeopardize the non profit status because of the For profit side of the business? ( would this work - an LLC with a subsidary being the Non profit organization? ) Their attorney says yes there's definitely a way to do this - as long as the money trail is kept clean with isolated "books" of Non-profit....and For-profit proceeds. But the attorney can't seem to figure out how to do it. What kind of Attorney, CPA or book should be consulted? Are there other business out there like this? Like what? moreVoting Question: income tax rate in SEZ?

I have a virtual administrative company & a non profit pet shelter was hiring for an assistant. It's a small facility with one owner so the owner just said yeah, we'd love to work with you & suddenly began sending me a list of things to do. When I asked what her budget was all I got was a response telling me how much they owed this vet and that food warehouse and how she just needed extra help to manage fundraisers so she could get out of debt & then she ended the email with - thank you so much, I really need your help. To me it sounds as if she's trying to guilt me into volunteering my services even though she said she was hiring. I need to handle this delicately & tell her I want to provide the services she needs but I can't do it for free. How do I do this? moreResolved Question: When our economy ultimately goes bust, will you be happy just to work in one of Obama's forced labor gulags?
Taken from an Obama speech: Today, AmeriCorps - our nation's network of local, state and national service programs - has 75,000 slots. I know firsthand the quality of these programs. My wife Michelle once left her job at a law firm to be the founding director of an AmeriCorps program in Chicago that trains young people for careers in public service. These programs invest Americans in their communities and their country. They tap America's greatest resource - our citizens. As President, I will expand AmeriCorps to 250,000 slots, and make that increased service a vehicle to meet national goals like providing health care and education, saving our planet and restoring our standing in the world, so that citizens see their efforts connected to a common purpose. People of all ages, stations, and skills will be asked to serve. Because when it comes to the challenges we face, the American people are not the problem - they are the answer. We'll send more college graduates to teach and mentor our young people. We'll call on Americans to join an Energy Corps to conduct renewable energy and environmental cleanup projects in their neighborhoods. We'll enlist veterans to help other vets find jobs and support, and to be there for our military families. And we'll also grow our Foreign Service, open consulates that have been shuttered, and double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011 to renew our diplomacy. And we'll use technology to connect people to service. We'll expand USA Freedom Corps to create an online network where Americans can browse opportunities to volunteer. You'll be able to search by category, time commitment, and skill sets; you'll be able to rate service opportunities, build service networks, and create your own service pages to track your hours and activities. This will empower more Americans to craft their own service agenda, and make their own change from the bottom up. We also need to invest in ideas that can help us meet our common challenges, because more often than not, the next great social innovation won't be generated by the government. The non-profit sector employs 1 in 12 Americans and 115 nonprofits are launched every day. Yet while the federal government invests $7 billion in research and development for the private sector, there is no similar effort to support non-profit innovation. Meanwhile, there are ideas across America - in our inner cities and small towns; from college graduates, to seniors getting ready to retire - that could benefit millions of Americans if they're given the chance to grow. As President, I will launch a new Social Investment Fund Network. It's time to get the grass roots, the foundations, the faith-based organizations, the private sector and the government at the table so that we can learn from our own success stories. We'll invest in ideas that work; leverage private sector dollars to encourage innovation; and expand successful programs to scale. Take a program like the Harlem Children's Zone, which helps thousands of kids in New York through after-school activities, mentoring, and family support. We need to make that model work in different cities across America. And just as we support small businesses, I'll start a new Social Entrepreneur Agency to make sure that small non-profits have strong support from Washington. moreResolved Question: How do you find a distributor for a spiritually based business?
I am in the process of starting a scripture card company which is a spin off of a non-profit organization that produces and supplies scripture card packets for our troops. These would be a different set of cards for different occasions or places in someones life (i.e. grief, teens, children, parents, etc.). Not sure where to start to find distributor or venue to market these. Would appreciate any help. moreResolved Question: why me and my father don't get along????
we'll to start, me and my father have been in and out of each others lives for years, not by my choice. To me, my father obnoxious and talks too much. I tell him sometimes just to relax and he does not get it. My father is from Miami, and when he arrived from there,he did not know anybody,so i hooked him up with a couple people i know for electrical work so he could make some money until he got a job; mind you i have business dealings with these people in which i profit from. Anyhow, as result of my father, i no longer profit from those people anymore because he f--ked them and did not do as promised, and, now things are harder for me because i counted on that income. Well, i brought to his attention and he acts like it is nothing. Anyhow, he shows up at my home everyday, and i feed him because i love him,but when he is here,he thinks that he does not have to follow the rules and parameters that i set in my home. Now when he rings my doorbell, and i see that it is him, sometimes i don't want to let him in. And then sometimes, i do certain jobs that he is familiar with, and all does is criticize my work in front of my crew that works for me and i have to be dis-respectful and tell him get way from me. Anyhow, i am just trying to gain a better relationship with him,but it never fails,he always goes back to the non-sense. I had to fire a guy because my dad starting criticizing my work and the other guy jumped on the band wagon, which is a flagrant violation, for i am paying the guy. Anyhow, any advice would help. moreResolved Question: READ THIS!! FOR FAMILYS THAT NEED CHRISTMAS ASSISTANCE!!?

Ron Paul I am just absolutely convinced that the best formula for giving us peace and preserving the American way of life is freedom, limited government, and minding our own business overseas. Ron Paul I have never met anyone who did not support our troops. Sometimes, however, we hear accusations that someone or some group does not support the men and women serving in our Armed Forces. Think of how Nixon was elected to stop the mess in Vietnam. Ron Paul War is never economically beneficial except for those in position to profit from war expenditures.
