Business fears losses after solar means test

A business in South Australia says it will lose millions of dollars because of the new means-test on the solar energy rebate.

The Federal Government has angered the solar business sector and the Greens, by restricting the rebate to households that earn less than $100,000 a year.

Adrian Ferraretto runs a solar energy shop in Adelaide and says the new scheme is a big disincentive for consumers and will leave solar businesses worse off.

"Government figures have estimated this means test to reduce the uptake of solar panels by 60 per cent, and to a business like ours that's about $2 million a month in turnover which we'll be going down on," he said.

"And to Mother Nature that's an extra seven [billion] tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions that will be going into the atmosphere."

Voting Question: WHAT IS "RESOLUTION" ON THE "ASK" SYSTEM? My Question Certainly was NOT resolved!?

I suppose Ask closes a question when IT decides to do so. Is this indiscriminate? Then why is the OFFENSIVE "What the Hell is Kwanzaa" question still viewable? Previously I wrote: How can a Kwanzaa Question Be "Resolved" When It Has So Many Wrong Answers? Someone asked if Kwanzaa was extinct and closed out the responses when the answers were probably to his satisfaction without regard for facts. Some references were declared negative based on Kwanzaa items not being available in stores. How ridiculous! Kwanzaa is created to counteract the commercialism of the business world which promotes buying gifts and families going broke instead of the true gift of Christmas, which is Christ. Kwanzaa gifts are much more precious because they are often "Homemade." Others can be as simple as a promise of doing a good deed for family members. For Kwanzaa true observers, they have no interest in quantifying their numbers to the media or larger community. The fact that Kwanzaa is still going on after over 40 years is a testament to its vitality. Although it may be growing slowly, it is growing steadily. Kwanzaa is alive and well if one knows where to find it. And it is increasingly becoming important to some who are aware to keep certain practices circumspect from the general public. Yet others are bold enough to not care what the general public thinks and goes on about their business of celebrating their heritage the same as those from any other country: Europe, Asia, Latin America, or anywhere. Kwanzaa is definitely still holding its own. My follow-up question might be: Are people who ask such questions to be considered really serious? Or is it that there are those out there who ask questions where they suspect there might be derogatory or diminishing commentary in regards to race. (Don't think this is harsh, because it is identifiable all over the internet.) Others declare it is still a holiday because Hallmark still makes cards. I do buy all I see and never see enough. But thank you Hallmark. But here again, there are many self-produced Kwanzaa card publishers if one takes the time to find them. Just to let you know. Someone answered: I agree with you. I try to give all askers an honest, non-biased, and hopefully accurate answer. If they choose an incorrect, sarcastic, or racist answer, there is nothing anyone else can do about it. Are people who ask such questions to be considered really serious? Sometimes yes, sometimes no, but I always take their questions seriously. This way, the people who truly are serious will receive a good answer, and those who aren't will not get the satisfaction of annoying/offending others, get bored and move on. Kwanzaa does in part resist commercialism, so your praise of Hallmark cards is a little contradictory. Someone else wrote: I kinda agree with Tyler, when you are giving props to Hallmark. In the past, when my family and friends have celebrated Kwanzaa, I have never known anyone at any of the gatherings, have we ever bought cards, or any store bought gifts. Every gift had been made or something traded. I agree that it is slowly catching on, but keep the faith and please keep in mind that if main stream stores are not housing what you are looking for, venture out to stores that may carry the product, or shop in the African or Afrocentric communities. Don't expect this western society to catch on, or cater to an idea that counteracts with the business world that promotes buying gifts, and causing unsuspecting families to go broke. I now respond: I am not really giving Hallmark "props." I simply will purchase Kwanzaa cards whenever I see them. That has nothing really to do with Kwanzaa, as I explained. Is not worth the effort to try to stop a commercial company from producing anything that it desires -- even if it is preferable to purchase the cards from African-American resources and artists -- and I do -- when I can find them. The only "saving grace" may be that most likely it is African-American Hallmark employees who are creating those cards, and the purchase gives them an opportunity for extended employment. So the way I see it, my comments were simply upholding the validity of the event -- not the business. It is somewhat coincidental that the business facilitated the process -- that was all. more

Question: I think my neighbor is neglecting her dog.? Question Details: And I don't know what to do about it. They've had this dog for a year and when they first got him, he cried all the time because he was a puppy and hadn't been away from his litter before. That I understood. In the last few months, they've been home less and less and less. Now the dog starts crying and screaming every time they leave the house. And it cries from 7 AM, the time they leave, until usually 7 PM when they get home (I'm not kidding, it barely stops). I'm pretty sure the dog is kenneled and a tiny dog doesn't have much for a bladder and bowel control because they're so small. I'm sure the poor thing is crying because it has to sit in its own pee and poo. But I don't know for 100% certain because I've only seen the dog a few times lately and when I see it, it appears to be clean. I don't know what to do. I hear this thing crying ALL DAY and its not only annoying but it breaks my heart. I've called the manager of our building and reported it on several occasions and she said that she doesn't know what to do either. She said that maybe we should consider calling the Humane Society or the ASPCA, but neither of us know for sure what is going on in that unit, so we're not sure how to approach this. Not sure anything would come of it. The ideal situation would be this lady spends more time with her dog, finds a dog sitter, or gives the dog to someone who has a lifestyle for one (For some reason, they got rid of their CAT which was perfectly suited for their not-homeness). Any idea what qualifies as neglect in Minnesota? Does this sound like something the ASPCA would help with? My other consideration is to call the police and report a barking/nuisance dog, but if that is something that could be avoided, I'd like to. Any ideas? Help? "Spanish is allowed in the prep area, the dishwasher area and the lower level. "I'm really appalled," said Tim Stewart-Winter, a Yale lecturer. "As a New Haven resident and member of the Yale community, I think diversity is a strength of this country." Bridget Pierpont, a 40-year-old New Haven resident, said she was texting a friend as she passed Atticus on Thursday suggesting they no longer go to the bookstore because of the language policy. So I am reading my local paper and I stumble across an article titled "Poll: Half of Americans want U.S. to butt out." The article is about several polls done around the U.S, and how people feel about the role America plays in the world today. The article gives some questions such as "should America mind it own business internationally?" and "should we go our own way?" Although these questions are really vague they raise an interesting point-should we? To quote the article, "survey respondents younger than 30 are far more likely than older ones to think that the U.S too often gets tangled up in the affairs of others." They say the reason for this is that the younger "twitter" generation can recall no other world other than the one where the U.S. is the sole super power. That the generation that fought World War 2 "required little persuading that it was always better to fight a war in another country than wait for one in your own." While 59% of those younger told the poll that the country should mind its own business only 39% stated that "we should go our own way" Which negates the idea that young people are isolationists. IN the last half-century isolationist views were more commonly expressed by people with lower incomes than by the college-educated or affluent, surveys showed. That allowed people and policy shapers to mostly shrug off arguments to, say, erect trade barriers to protect American jobs. So I have several questions regarding this article. I was at my Nan's house, I had only moved in yesterday because my parents had died yesterday. I was seventeen and now an orphan. “Yasmin?” my Nan called softly opening my door. “Morning.” I yawned. “Oh, are you feeling okay?” she came and sat on my bed. “Yeah, but I didn't know where I was when I woke up...” I looked around the purple room which once was my mother's. “Well, how about you eat some breakfast and unpack your clothes.” she stood up and walked out of the room. I stood up and walked into my bathroom, I washed my face and brushed my teeth. I walked out and unpacked a few clothes so I could change. I sighed as I looked at the top, my mother had given to me for my sixteenth birthday. I missed her, only yesterday morning had I gave her kiss and walked out of the house, only to come back and find my house in pieces and my both parent's bodies being pulled out. Tears started to roll down my face. I didn't know how I was going to get through the day without sobbing. I pulled on my jeans and the purple top and brushed my long black hair. It took me ten minutes to fix it, I had a really bad night last night, I couldn't stop crying and I kept having nightmares. Right now I have over half the essay done (and I'm out of ideas...), but I was going through, and I have a citation for almost every sentence. I don't know how they got my name in the subject but I've seen other spam where they know your name, too, right? In the past year, he's gone from just yelling to literally bellowing. I can almost see his eyes popping out and he's red faced and he punches things. He punched a hole through our bedroom door. He beats and punches the steering wheel and dash if we're in the car. He throws things and gets in my face screaming so loudly that he has spit on his chin. At first I thought that it was a reaction to stress at work because he got promoted to management and has more responsibilities, but now I think he just has serious stress management or anger issues. He has started going behind my back and buying weed and outright lying to my face about it when its stinking up the house. And who knows how much its costing us? He's started to badmouth me to his friends to turn them against me like I'm "the enemy" and the overall feeling is like I'm the mom and he's a teenager conspiring to sneak around and do as much as possible behind my back, and goes into rebellion mode instead of a more mature "lets work this out" mode. This morning he casually mentioned that he wanted us to make New Year's resolutions. In the back of my head, I was thinking about how there is a double standard in our relationship: he opens my mail, but I'm not allowed to read what he's typing over his shoulder; I have to cut back on Starbucks but he can keep drinking expensive energy drinks; he can buy a $70 video game but we can't afford to go see a movie I want to see, if I don't clean the house daily he gets 'stressed out' by "the mess" but if he's off and leaves food wrappers and pop cans around, they can stay the whole weekend and apparently don't bother him; he can bite me head off and instead of giving me a chance to respond he snaps "No shut up, I don't want to hear you." He gets to butt in when I'm trying to talk and if I point that out, he says "its because I know what you're going to say" but if I ever try to butt in, he bites my head off for disrespecting him. So when he said that, I knew it was trouble and I tried to get out of it because I knew he'd hold me to whatever he came up with or there would be h*** to pay, but he'd cheat or rationalize his way out of his end. I didn't want to get roped into some kind of forced diet, budget, or slavery. I smiled a little and said "I dunno... that kinda sounds like a fight waiting to happen." I said it like a tease and I smiled at him, hoping that a little humor would divert him. But he instantly exploded. He went from happy to furious and screamed at me "Why do you have to always do that? You don't understand me, you're such a b****. Cant you understand its important to me?" So I said, "I'm sorry. I didnt know it meant so much to you. Tell me what you had in mind." And he said "No! I'm not telling you now, you f*** b***." And I tried again and told him I wanted to know and he refused and started punching the dash of the car in rhythm with what he was yelling. We were on our way to work and calling me names and told me that when I go visit my family at Thanksgiving I should stay there and that he's seeing a lawyer today (he threatens that routinely) and that if I come back, I won't have a home to come back to. The big-government-loving left is determined to push through a bill before the end of the year that contains who knows what — with the only certainty being that members of Congress won’t be subject to its limits on care. After promising bipartisanship and sunshine in the deliberations, Democrats are shaping the bill behind closed doors. In the face of an overwhelming lack of public support and dire budget-deficit ramifications, the left, like the snake oil peddlers of old, is selling ObamaCare with quackery and the President’s oft-repeated and patently false claim that “if you’ve got health insurance, you like your doctors, you like your plan, you can keep your doctor, you can keep your plan.” The media campaigns of today’s slick-talking politicians harken back to the entertaining road shows where deceiving people and leaving before the deception became obvious was an effective way to fleece the public. Today’s radical politicians are determined to promote and pass their disastrous health care reform before the public learns the details and then delay implementation until some time after the 2012 election when Obama, at least, will be politically safe from the public’s wrath. Oh, the deception! Let me count the ways! For starters: the reality of mandates, rationing, taxpayer funded abortion, opposition from physicians, the prohibitive cost, the lack of competition between private and public insurance … the list could go on and on. It’s easy to get the facts at websites like ours — www.cwfa.org. But it’s not easy to get it from the nightly news or the morning papers. Nor can you get the truth from those promoting ObamaCare — but I repeat myself. Congressional GOP members describe the plans that are on the table as socialized medicine. They point out that government-run health care would drive private insurers out of business. Even Democratic members privately admit that their plans don’t offer enough choices and will hurt Americans who already have insurance through their employers. The estimates of additional costs to individual American families run into the thousands of dollars. In fact, in spite of repeated denials by those pushing legislation through Congress right now, government-run insurance policies would provide the type of shortage-plagued service now available in Canada and England — not exactly what Americans want. Remember the major selling point for ObamaCare? It was supposed to provide insurance for those who don’t currently have insurance. However, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) shot down that deception; CBO’s estimate was that when fully implemented, the proposed plan — counting both the number who would gain insurance less the number who would lose coverage through their employer — would only increase the number of insured by about 16 million (only about 35 percent of the 46 million uninsured in 2009) at a cost of an additional $1 trillion in the deficit over the 2010-2019 period. Now is the time for dissenting, well-informed voices to be heard. If the current ideas become law, it will irrevocably change our health care system as we know it. It will lead to higher costs, rationing of health care, the funding of elective abortions, and will drive pro-life doctors out of the profession. Was this the change that people voted for in 2008? People from around the world come to the United States for the best health care, and that top-quality health care, now available to the vast majority of Americans, is endangered. It is reprehensible that politicians are working behind closed doors to devise schemes to push ObamaCare through quickly without public approval. They are willing to totally ignore the millions of Americans who are concerned that it will trample our beliefs and values. Congress needs to hear our voices; we must speak out now. With public disapproval getting more open, and the outcry against ObamaCare spreading so rapidly, Congress is getting pretty desperate; and the backroom tactics are getting more bare-knuckled. The Christian Medical Association (CMA, www.cmda.org) revealed this week that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) reportedly offered money to physicians who would drop their opposition to ObamaCare. He reportedly promised national medical groups that the Senate would stop medical cuts to doctor payments for 10 years in return for physicians’ support for ObamaCare. My employer recently hired a 23 year old to be an assistant director for our department. This girl has no clue what she is doing, and apparently the only thing she is good at is convincing the higher-ups that everyone else is incompetent and she has all the answers. The director's position just opened up, and although company policy states that you have to be in your present position for three months before you can apply for another one, she is applying for it. It is obvious she will get the job, even if they have to hold it open for her until she meets the 3 month requirement. She is in no way qualified for this job, it requires 5 years of experience as a director in this field, and there is no way she could possibly have this experience. They also had a different job description for the internal posting as they did for the external posting. Is that even legal? Meanwhile, others in the dept have previously applied and were told we were not qualified even though we have been doing the actual duties of the job for several years. They have also hired her husband to work here, which is also against company policy.
