China Mobile starts 3G Marketing push

China Mobile has now started it's marketing push for a public beta of 3G telephony services, hinting that full deployment may be available soon after that little sporting event called the Olympics!

As we've reported on before, the dominant tecnology for 3G in China is not going to be the otherwise globally-accepted WCDMA, but in fact China's homegrown TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access).

TD-SCDMA was developed as part of a larger Chinese effort to create technology standards that would not require the payment of royalties to foreign patent holders. It is not compatible with any other 3G standard, and China's carriers have not indicated they will support any other 3G standard. However, given the size of China's domestic mobile market — about 550 million users — even 10 percent penetration would give TD-SCDMA more users than in many nations. more

A balance between supply and demand is essential to your company's

Think of demand as sales and marketing. It's your sales and marketing department's job to create demand by making sure your customers know and buy what your business has to offer. Meanwhile, supply is represented by manufacturing, warehousing and distribution, aka the supply chain. It's your supply chain's job to be prepared to fulfill the demand created by the sales side.

In my businesses, I divide my responsibilities between supply and demand. As a business grows, I appoint one person to be solely in charge of demand and another person solely supply. This reduces a lot of the finger-pointing, buck-passing and shoulder shrugging that happens when supply and demand aren't in harmony. If there's too much supply (inventory) and not enough demand (sales), both sides come to the table to discuss it. more

Like many eBay sellers, Sarah Davis didn't set out to be a business owner. But somewhere between her first online sale and last quarter's $560,000 in sales of second-hand luxury handbags, it dawned on her that she had become one. From the time she started selling in 1999, Ms. Davis reported income from her eBay sales on a Schedule C. By 2005, her business had grown large enough that she sought tax advice. Soon after, she incorporated her business, Fashionphile, as an LLC.

"You start out selling some stuff from your closet, and then the random clearance handbag," Ms. Davis said from her Beverly Hills, Calif., office. Mix in some shoes you never wore and "It's hard to say when you are really, 'in business.' "

Thanks She Said This To Me Below: A big reality check for you: If you're looking for any book or class that can guarantee you a sale, that's going to be impossible. It's a tough business. But yes, in my class, a couple of people have optioned and sold things. Carl Ames is one, and Martin McSweeney ended up at the top of the Page International contest and then that got him hired to write for BBC Television. Others have had their scripts read by actors at festivals. One guy who just finished is producing his own script written through the course. To get produced and into the theater is almost impossible, UNLESS you plan to produce your own script and market it. That's the reality. Most of us do want to see our scripts in the theater, and so we try to get the attention of a producer, manager, or agent. Many writers will option material. That's the first step toward that production. An option is a huge, huge thing in a writer's life. It opens doors. At the end of the course, if you've worked hard, the script is usually ready for the next step. I can't think of a person who completed my course who wasn't ready. They usually start pitching to Hollywood the minute they finish the class. But nobody can guarantee that you'll get an agent or sale. There are no books on how to get an agent. Here's why: An agent is usually the last thing you get. First a writer must get a producer or manager-producer to option the script. Then, if a sale to another bigger producer or studio looks imminent, the writer hires an agent (or a lawyer) to do the contract. Agents are there to do contracts. They're the money people. It's the producers, managers, and writers who go about finding the deals. At the A List level, yes, the agent is involved in finding some work for a person like Julia Roberts. But that's not our level. But all writers try to get an agent and once in a while an agent will sign with you. It's mighty rare, and usually you have to be recommended by somebody to get an agent, OR, you have to win a contest or something. Agents and managers troll the contests. All writers know this. You can shun contests, but now you've just shunned agents by doing that. That's a huge beginner mistake to think that way. Typically, agents and managers are inclined to look at the top 25 percent placements in a contest. That kind of finish goes in your pitch emails and so on. Perhaps there's a group you can join? Much of this is well-known among writers and you'd find it out at meetings, even online ones. Wisconsin Screenwriters Forum has an online chat board where you can ask questions. Open Question: What can I expect at a job fair?

So Im a college student about to graduate with an AA in business and there is a job fair coming up what can I expect? I've been to a job fair at my college once to see what it was like but honestly it was utter chaos people everywhere and most of the employers just handed out packets I didn't understand how they would remember any applicants they had. I know to dress professional and have my resume but do I just walk around and hand them out? How do I know what jobs they have available? Is it more of an informational thing or do they actually conduct interviews? Whats your experience? Also whats the best layout for my resume at a job fair? Should I keep is short and to the point, do I use bullets or short sentences? Is it a good idea to print it out on nice thick paper or just plain computer paper? A good portion of my resume is built around my schooling, highlighting the courses in accounting, business management, and small business management but my only work experience in an office setting was 4 years ago is it still acceptable to have that on there? I learned so much there for only being in high school, I helped out in various postitions in payroll and HR I feel like thats the only thing I have going for me. After the office position I majored in x-ray & was an intern for 1.5 years before changing my major to business. I took x-rays, delt with patients- I did eveything an actual tech would do only I was a student. I went 3 days a week and I was moved to another clinical site every 3 weeks. How can I tie that education and experience into the business field and on my resume better than just listing it? Aside from that I only have 2 other p/t jobs on there but they weren't that great they were just to help me get through college. My actual goal is to open a small business, right now I have one but its just on the side. I want to make it a full-time thing but that takes more money than I have right now- thats why I need a decent job for time being. Is this something to avoid talking about during interviews? Open Question: Do you believe the economy is picking up?

Most of this is an answer to another question. But I wanted to ask everyone else out there how they felt. The following is a simple idea that I have from watching the economy struggle so desperately over the past fifteen or so years of my life. When I started to think for myself rather than rely on my parents to do it for me, a main focal point has been my government as I was raised to be an American. Through the years we have had our pitfalls but there is nothing I can personally do about their presence. So here goes I am a pessimist to the core and I have one thing to say. The economy is picking up. Leisure activities towards small businesses are increasing in the food and entertainment industry. Average citizens are beginning to spend money in places other than Target, Wal-Mart, and stores that carry everything you need to live in your little hovel. For example. Many people I know around my small area of Ohio are getting jobs recently. Not the steel factories of old like this area of the country has depended on so long, but higher end restaurants for example. Like one that I just got hired at. They're meals average fifteen to twenty dollars a plate, so needless to say so needless to say, people are willing to pay for an enjoyable atomoshphere and companionship as well as food. They are doing quite well , in fact, just the simple face that any mom and pops joing could afford to hire myself and a waitress is great. Right across the street, in a mini mall, four of my friends just got jobs at an AT and T store selling phones making commission and decent money on top of it. Yes, AT and T is a large company, but this is an example of big business creating jobs on the middle class scale. Many other people that I know are getting jobs across the area. Do you see? It's coming together now because that big influx of money that they got their greedy hands on is beginning to trickle down to us. It's called redistributing the wealth. Maybe they're getting full? Now don't get me wrong. I hate our government and I believe that it is mostly their fault for letting us slip into the position that we have. I understand that we are to blame. But it's not like only a few thousand people grew complacent. The entire economy lost their will to stand up for themselves. And I believe that our chosen officials are to blame for watching us slip into such forms of filth and debauchery. At the same time, we allowed them to do quite the same. While Americans have been binging themselves on culture and intoxication for the past hundred years, our government has been binging gorging themselves on wealth. Please understand, I also mean big business when referring to the American government. Especially the banks, but lately the trend has been veering towards business. But now that we are making a big stink of things in our government, the world is beginning to notice and take heed to our plight. Our government has really no other choice but to fix our economy or else they shall crumble and be left destitute and open like so many countries that we have wrongly invaded. And believe you me, there are some people who would love to see us fall That leaves the government with the option to make us happy and rich again (eventually) so that when they do get into another ordeal (this one in the middle east being almost moot to the Mob) with another country, they will come to us, for our money. If we are happy, chances are we will more willingly give than if we were dissatisfied with our governing body. Remember. We're still the Mob of Old Rome. The government and the civilians will always ebb and flow. It's just a matter of not letting things get out of control. Let the liberals do the complaining about issues and let the republicans sort out what's actually an intelligent idea (and don't you conservatives act like everything they say is wrong) from the asinine ones and eventually everything will come together. Please, Republicans and Liberals. You have to understand that both ends are wrong at the moment. If there were extreme right wing libs running the country there would be such a teenage rebellion in our population! People just filling themselves to the brim with ideas and causes that don't matter to our stability in this world that is rapidly growing too small, but Republicans, you as well must realize that times are changing and you've got to change as well, the entire mentality of this country has got to change if we plan on staying alive. It might take some time, but this country will correct itself. Atleast I truly do hope so. But then again. Maybe these are just pipe dreams. Maybe we're just too far gone. Anyways. The true message to this is that it's all got to start on the civilian level. Employers, you can now afford to hire people, and employees. I have been friends with a straight couple for around a year, I myelf am gay though, and my partner was also good friends with them (no funny business!). everything was fine up until the wife and i decided to take classes for college together. The husband immediatly did a 180. He was used to her always being home and literally never leaving! He started getting very rude towards his wife as well as me, and eventually was put on 4 meds so that he could handle her leaveing for school. they have 4 kids and i have one and while we were going to school during the evening last semester my daughter would go over there with the husband, i sometimes watched their children but not often. when i asked how much i should pay for her being over there 4 nights a week i was told that it was like having the fourth child, that lives with her mother home, no compensation needed! I didn't feel right with that so i gave them money here and there. The husband called to ask if i could watch the kids in the middle of thanksgiving dinner with my partners family. I told him that today it couldn't happen (the wife was home, she needed to go to the store and he doesn't let her go alone). He threw a fit! He came over to my house and yelled at me for 2 hours. he then stated that i WILL pay 5 dollars everytime i am in the car. and i will pay everyday for my daughter to be there. after he felt like he got his point across, things returned back to the way they were, or so i thought, he was bad mouthing me to everyone calling me a dyke and all kinds of things( i have long hair i wear make up and girls clothes!) to other mutual friends. my daughter then began comming home with stories about how the husband plays guitar hero all night and doesn't pay attention to them and they had 2 older boys staying there (19 and 21) and they made a dark tent and trapped her in there and made their phones make horror movie screams, that is only one example! needless to say i stopped sending her over there. then again recently i had papers and things that were due the next day, and he called at 7:30 to ask me to babysit. i said no i cant i have school tomorrow and i go to bed early and have to get these papers done! he said he would figure something else out then called and demanded that i was to go spend the night then i would leave from school from there. i again said sorry but i cant. his parents are living there and he was going to take her out for valentines day but the parents were going and he wanted me to watch his little terror of a 13 yr old brother too. we had decided that i would pay when i recieved my student loan money, It was a mutual agreement between the three of us the night he was yelling at me! the wife texted me the other day and said he said have a check ready. he called after i said that he wasn't my father and i would give it when i had cashed the student loan check. he called me and started to go off on me again to i told him that i was not his wife and that he was lucky i wasn't, he cant control me, and quite a few other things but i dont remember it all. the then proceded to tell me that he was going to come up here and "set my *** straight!" i said something like oh, your a reall big man your gonna come up here and beat up a 5'2" 115 lb girl ya loser. i live .3 miles from her and she has an expedition and we have an explorer. today i filled up before class then at the gas station just past my house i filled up again to see what it really should be... It took 4 dollars. they are trying to charge me 5 dollars a day for 8 weeks and in the begining the deal was that she drove last semester and i would drive this semester. no gas money involved. and they are trying to charge me all the way back till they first began babysitting. Studies by two conservative think tanks estimate immigrants in the United States illegally could take 300,000 construction jobs, or 15% of the 2 million jobs that new taxpayer-financed projects are predicted to create. They fault Congress for failing to require that employers certify legal immigration status of workers before hiring by using a Department of Homeland Security program called E-Verify. The program allows employers to check the validity of Social Security numbers provided by new hires. It is available to employers on a voluntary basis. JOBS FORECAST: Where the jobs are, state by state STOCKS RECOVERY: Could take years "They could have deterred this, but they chose not to," said Steven Camarota, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies. He said a federal requirement that employers use E-Verify would have reduced, if not eliminated, the hiring of immigrants in this country illegally. An advocacy group for immigrants, illegal and legal, did not disagree with the 300,000 estimate. Camarota says the estimate is based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau's Current Population Survey and other independent findings that 15% of all construction workers in the USA are either illegal immigrants or lack the status of legal immigrant authorized to work. But Jorge-Mario Cabrera, director of education for the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, said it is impossible to predict with certainty because it is unknown how many jobless immigrant construction workers may leave the U.S., frustrated by the economic recession, before the new spending produces jobs. He questioned the Center for Immigration Studies' motives. "Those are fear tactics. … 'The immigrants are here to take your job,' " Cabrera said. "I think that we really should be focusing on economic progress for all." The center is a Washington policy organization that, its website says, "seeks fewer immigrants but a warmer welcome for those admitted." Cabrera says his group believes unauthorized immigrants working in this country contribute to the economy. A similar hiring estimate was produced in a report in February by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank. Senior research fellow Robert Rector wrote, "Without specific mechanisms to ensure that workers are U.S. citizens or legal immigrants authorized to work, it is likely that 15% of these workers, or 300,000, would be illegal immigrants." The version of the stimulus bill passed by the House of Representatives included a provision requiring employers to check immigration status with the E-Verify system before hiring. The Senate did not include such a provision, and it was not in the version sent to President Obama. The Obama administration has delayed until at least May 21 a Bush administration executive order requiring federal contractors to use the E-Verify system in hiring. It had been scheduled to take effect in January. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce filed suit seeking to block the requirement, joined by the Associated Builders and Contractors and other business organizations. The business groups and immigrant advocacy groups argue that the E-Verify database is riddled with errors that could result in millions of workers being wrongly identified as not authorized for work. They say requiring its use before hiring would impose a cost burden on employers and open them to lawsuits. Resolved Question: Do I need to apologize to my mother in law?

Almost every baby has a "fussy time". My 6 month old daughter chooses to scream and cry and be loud at 3 in the morning pretty much every morning. Money's tight, so hubby and I are living in his parents basement. There's 4 unused bedrooms in this house, but we chose the basement because it's more like a studio apartment (minus the kitchen). So we have no privacy at all. I'm a breastfeeding mom, and I'm fairly modest. My mother in law always likes to watch when I nurse Karla, and it irritates me. She speaks Spanish, and I speak English, so there's a little bit of a language barrier between us. I've told her many times though that it makes me uncomfortable when she watches me feed Karla. Like every other mom, I get frustrated when I can't get Karla to be quite. 3 o'clock this morning, Karla was crying, my husband was asleep and I was wide awake and tending to her needs (as best as I could). She wouldn't take the breast, she wasn't gassy, I changed her diaper... still, nothing! She's a high risk medical baby, and my mother in law knows this. She always thinks that Karla has gas, or she's in PAIN! She has a liver disease, and her liver was operated on back in November, so there would be no way she's in pain. (turned out she wanted me to snuggle with her) 3 am, Karla cries, hubby's mom came running down the stairs like the house was on fire! She immediately jumped in and started telling me how to parent my own baby. I hate that! I've told her before to mind her own business when it comes to that. Karla's my only baby, and she'll be an only child, so I get one time to do the whole parenting thing. I didn't want my mother in laws advice, but she wouldn't shut up! So I got up and walked to the bathroom (and locked the door). Karla was still crying, so my MIL grabbed the bathroom key and opened the door as I was trying to give Karla the breast. I got so mad and I lost my temper... (with a crying baby in my ear, it was very easy to loose control) and I yelled at her! I said "eff you, leave me alone" I feel bad for it, but the bloody woman wouldn't let me do the mom thing!! She raised 2 of her own, then she raised her other granddaughter. Now she wants to raise this one, and that ain't happening! I feel better now that I put her in her place. *There's no possible way that she'd kick me out of her house. She knows if she did that, then she'd never see Karla again. And I'll be moving into an apartment in less than 6 months. Resolved Question: How to deal with a disgruntled ex-employee contacting current employees?

I have an ex employee that has filed a wage claim against us. I lost the claim and I am going to have to pay over $7,000 to this employee. The problem is, this employee is contacting all the other ex-employees and current employees and telling them to put in claims for "their money". Resolved Question: How to handle this buyer on Ebay?

I recently listed a baby outfit on Ebay. The auction was for United States only, and was clearly listed in the auction. I had a potential buyer ask me if I would ship to Canada and after looking up the rates, I answered the question and said "Yes, I will ship to Canada....the shipping cost will be (this amount)." I posted the question and answer on my auction. Anyways, the item sold and when I went to get the winning bidder's address, I noticed they were from Sweden. Instead of doing what I should have done and telling them I would not sell to them, as they had not even asked, I looked up shipping and sent the item out anyways. The buyer then emails me a couple of weeks later (they won right before Christmas) and asked when I shipped the item. I said that I sent the item out right after Christmas, and that sometimes, during the holidays and at the beginning of the year, mail can be slow. I also stated what I saw on the USPS site, that it could take up to ten business days for it to arrive, and told them to contact me the next week if it had not arrived. (The first emails that were sent were somewhat rude.) Anyways, I still had not heard from the buyer the next week, until the end of the week, when they opened a dispute. She basically said that I had ignored her emails, given her no answers, and was being nasty to her. I wrote back that I had sent the item, responded to dispute any emails I had received from her, and had not received any since I told her to contact me if it did not arrive. So this led to her opening a dispute via Paypal. At this point, I was receiving many emails regarding the dispute. They were all being forwarded to my phone and my phone was literally going off constantly with this buyer just keeping on me. I had my shipping receipt, but I do not have a scanner. With three kids, it is difficult for me to go somewhere to scan, so finally, I decided I would just take the loss and refund her money. After refunding her money through Paypal, I wrote on the reply, "Buyer refunded via Paypal. Please no more contact with buyer. Thank you!" as I am sick of her going on and on about it. She has now opened ANOTHER case with Ebay, even though her money was refunded via Paypal (I have the emails to verify this, and also the Paypal account which says that the money was sent to her and she received it. She has even given me negative feedback stating, "Even though she refunded my money, she was very nasty about it." I don't understand how or why another case for the same item was opened through Ebay. When I try to respond, it will not let me. It says "Awaiting response from customer support." The case is still open. How on earth do I get this person to quit harrassing me? There was no sense in her contacting customer support AGAIN after receiving her refund. Should I email Ebay about this? Is there any way to block this person? She is getting on my nerves, and I am pretty much 99 percent sure that she is a scammer who has the item, but got her money back as well (judging by how she continues to contact Ebay after receiving 100 percent refund). I did not do tracking on the item and I certainly should have! I should not have even sold the item internationally, but thought I'd be the "nice guy" and do it anyways, and it really burned me! Resolved Question: Been married 6 months, starting to resent my wife?

Basically, as soon as i proposed to wife (valentines day 2009) her attitude towards me changed. a month after our engagement i noticed how she had become sort of stuck up, but only with me. Nearly a year on and we have now been married nearly 7 months. Now, she will NEVER admit when she is wrong nor does she ever admit that our marriage is on the road to failure. Everything i do she feels the need to throw a thousand questions towards me. Were struggling with our finances yet i find myself refusing overtime at work just because i know it will cause an argument between us. she will frown and start asking why i come home late. EVEN if i call her and let her know all i get is huffs and puffs. Yet every day she moans at me for having no money. Anything i do is not good enough for her. for example, yesterday she asked me to do her a pot noodle and get her 2 slices of bread an a drink. All she could do is moan about not having enough water in the pot noodles and that the bread i bought her wasnt soft enough. she then claimed i used hot tap water instead of boiling water. I did not. EVERYTHING i do is not good enough. even on our honeymoon she went funny with me as i didnt ask the lady checking us in at the airport for a free upgrade. I love my wife dearly but find my self punching the air in other rooms and muttering to myself when shes around. Now before you all start jumping up and down, yelling, 'You've got to be kidding!' or 'Must be your own fault!' let me explain how I got here. I'm a fifty-five year old Canadian woman. I've been married for the last 30 years or so to my second husband, have three daughters and 2 grandsons. Two of the girls live near me in the United States. My eldest is in Canada, with her husband and their boys. I have been here for twenty years, moving where my husband's job moved. We had 2 farms in Canada. We went into business with my son-in-law and eventually lost everything. The business went under last year; mad cow, recession etc. My husband had my son-in-law using tax right offs up there, while he opened a Business account and wrote off the farms. He's a Marine Manager and makes a hell of a good salary. He blamed the son-in-law, the governments, me, everyone but hime. I understood what was happening and felt I owed everything to him, for he had put up with me all those years. After seven years of marriage, and thanks to my husband (he saw a story about it on tv and said 'hey that's you and your crazy father) I went to my doctor, who diagnosed me and a sent me to a psychiatrist. I am bi-polar. I accepted this and wanted more than anything for the meds and therapy to work. After years of therapy, I became well, balanced and on my meds. That hasn't changed. My husband calls me crazy everytime I stand up to him. What I didn't know at the time was that my husband is a controller. He does the shopping, decides where we are to spend every week end, tells me when to go to bed and when to get up. He is a born, British subject, a nationalized Canadian citazen and now, an American citazen. He has me down here, no green card, no citizenship, and a Canadian passport due to run out in August. I don't know where to begin searching for help. I left him once before and spent a year living on my own, filing for divorce, in Canada. Then I found out I have no rights, at least with me up there and him living down here in Texas. I did not know he was going to leave me with no way to get home. I told him I wasn't coming down to be his housekeeper. I was wrong on both counts. I have no rights to file for divorce down here. I'm down here illegally. He has told the government nothing about my being here. He has, in fact, scolded me many times that it was my fault I had no green card as I believed a border guard who told me I had to spend six months and one day down in the states, less than six months in Canada. We had two farms in Canada and I had my own home and yet I gave up my card. Of course, to my husband, I'd been foolish and should have just lied. Though a florist, I have no job because I have no green card. I have no money except for the credit card he allows me to use, always near the limit, which he can access and watch every transaction I make. Yes, I do have family in Canada. Do you know how difficult it is to ask them to help when I know they don't have any money? I know I should find a way, but I don't know how. I'm beginning to believe him when he says 'i'm the crazy one.' Yes, I have a pschyitrist down here (Texas) and a family doctor, but he is so good at making himself the victem and I'm so tired of being called crazy. Wall St. firms and hedge funds hire based on your intelligence, your test scores, and your college background. So instead of whining about how "unfair" the banker bonuses are, why not get off your lazy butt, open up some physics and math and economics books, study hard, go to a good college, do well in your classes, score well on aptitude tests like the GMAT or LSAT, and then apply for a job in finance, or with an elite consulting group like McKinsey? That's what I did, before I went to law school. I did well in high school, got into a top college, majored in econ, did well in my classes, and then went to work as a junior analyst for JP Morgan. Now, in my case, I didn't really like the long hours or the stressful atmosphere, so I quit and went into law and went to work for my dad's firm. But if you want the huge money, you just have to stick with it, go to an elite business school like Harvard or Stern, then get yourself into the management track. You could also lateral over into a boutique firm or hedge fund. If you have a physics/math background, you can go into quantitative finance, too. A top-notch hedge fund quant can make millions in a single year. But instead of doing this, all I see Americans doing is whine, whine, whine. I see lazy high school kids getting pregnant and smoking rock instead of studying hard. Well you know what? You get into life what you put in. I've just been hired at a local daycare and I found out about the job through my step mom,she's a teacher who was forwarded an email about the job opening and thought i'd be interested. The email said the job paid $10 an hour,nothing about pay was mentioned during my interview. When I was younger, I was a careless, empty headed idiot who couldn't give a rat's a*ss about his credit. As fast as I'd get credit cards, I'd max them right out. I would stop making payments after a few months simply cause I just didn't feel like it, and felt like my money was better spent at the nightclubs or on a Playstation or whatever. Whenever creditors called, I'd just either hang up or change my number, and would toss collection bills in the trash without opening them. Imaginably, my credit record was a disaster zone of charge offs and delinquencies. A relative of mine passed away 2 years ago, and left me a large sum of his estate--consequentially, I was able to completely pay off all of my outstanding debts. My problem is I'm still having issues getting things that require credit such as a cell phone, or an apartment. My latest shock was when a job offer I had was suddenly rescinded after they did a credit check on me. (I'm still trying to figure out what the hell business it is of theirs in the first place). I thought I did the right thing pay completely paying everyone off! How can I clean this mess up once and for all, and prove I'm more finacially mature and trustworthy? more

Well, the whole story behind this is kind of long. My boyfriend and I lived together previously and we let his best friend stay with us for free. This guy is a major pothead and stayed on my couch for about 5 months until I moved out. Now, they have a place together. All he does is play WoW on my boyfriend's computer and smoke weed. He eats and drinks my boyfriend's food and whatever I bring by for us to eat (without asking...it will be gone when we look in the fridge) and he just gave him a couple hundred only because I told him that he owed my boyfriend money so he has no business telling me to pay rent. Hi, been in the work force less than two years and find my days to be well slow. Heck I remember pulling countless hours in labs and doing research at the end of college and thought it would be nice if it were slower in the work force. And boy is it slower. Put in my 8 hrs and go home, but the amount of work I do at work in 8 hours I could easily do in 2, especially if I work at the pace of my college years. And its mostly the same thing day in day out. By that I mean there are a lot of things of different natures, but you get used to it. I find myself sitting around at times thinking of going back to school, but for what? More engineering? Why? Is it really just for the money? Would it be better if we had a standard base salary with a larger performance/task completion differential? That would surely make things more interesting and exciting. Do any of you else feel undervalued or under challenged? I know I am not alone, friends (engineers) in other sectors also feel this way. At this point we are going the premed route, but for the sake of loyalty to the field, if nothing else, what other paths have you taken that seemed worth while, both in terms of money and satisfaction, both in interest and appreciation? Currently I'm on the management track and make in the 60k range with a ceiling in 10yrs of about 120k (Midwest region) fyi, if positions open up and I give a damn. Don't get me wrong I have the utmost respect for our field, but the business and management outside the our departments irritate me. -Deep down feeling I have been avoiding. My husband thinks it's too late for us to change it up and get wealthy. He thinks that we'd need money to make money. He thinks that we should already be working on a plan to make it big. He's a wood finisher by trade and though I currently only work pt, I have a MBA. I stay home and homeschool our three kids. I'd like to open a consignment shop, but he points out that we'd need thousands just for the first and last months rent on the building. A few thousand dollars we do not have. Any ideas on how to get ahead? I think he should open his own finishing shop instead of working as a sub-contractor. I really can only own my own business because I need to be able to have the kids with me. Sending them off for other people to raise them is out of the question. So, do you agree with my husband? Are we just too old and poor to turn our financial life around? How do we get the money we need to make money or are there ways to start up with no funds? I'm not looking to make $10 million next year, but I don't think that making $500,000 - 800,000 is that out of the question. If it were, then there wouldn't be so many expensive houses and fancy cars out there, right? That just seems more reasonable to me. Why live if you can't live? Thoughts? more

I have been working for 6 months for a RI Exit Realtor. Now I have been working part time and want to be doing this full time by the time my daughter goes to school which is in 2 years. My issue is I have a sponsor but he has done nothing with me. No open houses, no going with him to signing na da. I have asked if I could but he always says he has no listings. I had found my own client who turned out he wanted to buy a house in another state. My broker gave me the number of a mortgage person who was so unreliable and never returned the calls to the 2nd client I got myself. I had to as over and over to put my picture up on the website. I had given it to them day one and now 6 months later it's finally there. Now today I am in the office and I over heard another person on the phone saying he has 20 pending sales and listing etc. how back in november he has 45. maybe he is just trying to sound good to whomever on the phone but How can this guy have so much and my sponsor have nothing. I feel like they are willing to take my monthly desk fee but I am getting nothing in return. Even if the phone rings while I am in the office I never get any calls sent to me they always go to whatever full time person is there. I have spent so much money out of pocket. Hello First of all thanks for taking the time to help, I am doing a project that involves the security of a standalone laptop. Operating system will be dual boot windows XP pro SP3 and Linux debian etch. If a laptop is stolen or lost how easy would it be for someone to gain access (how would they do this) how could the laptop be made more secure using open source (Freeware)? Some answers I have are Boot up (Bios) password protect This would stop someone accessing the laptop from boot up but would not protect the hard drive content. Encrypting the hard drive, Does anyone know a good open source programme? Password protect the operating system. Programms such as ophcrack would get past. Encrypt documents on the hard drive, does anyone know of good open source software for this? what would be the loss to a average user and a (Company) business user. My story is just my hobby, I have no intentions of publishing, so I don't think that the whole "I can't tell you my ideas because you will get money from my ideas" thing is really, well, a problem. Basically, so far in the story, Lauren has been minding her own business, working hard to get out of school, when she suddenly finds herself the object of hatred from this guy called Ben, at school. He is in her year, but she has never noticed him before. He gives her really nasty looks, and glares at her all the time, and she just can't understand why, until he comes to sit next to her in the study room. She asks for an explanation, but he just laughs, because of something she said - it sounded funny to him, so she punches him in the face and he gets a MAJOR nosebleed. He leaves and she rushes after him because she didn't mean to punch him. He goes all faint and vomits and stuff so she looks after him, putting aside the fact that he has been horrible to her. When he is better, they talk about it, but when she queries why he has been giving her horrible looks, he tells her he simply can't explain it YET. She protests that they can never make a proper friendship when there is such a huge secret in the way, but he just continues to tell her that he "wants to tell her as he knows it's bothering her, but can't tell her yet." What I am asking for your help on is YES, you guessed it: The reason why he has been glaring at her all week, and why he can't explain it to her YET. My plot is sort of, open to most genres and idea, as it doesn't really have an official genre at the idea, so all ideas are welcome. So my dream: I was at work and I found a big post it from my best friend. It had a list of things to do which i can't remember Then I got a voicemail from a guy I used to have a crush on, and he was reminding me of going after my business (I have a business idea and I am not sure if I should go after it) Then I was in my kitchen and saw that guy and told him I got his voicemail, he asked me again when I was going to do the business Then I opened the fridge there was a yogurt in it , it was "snow pea flavored" according to the picture. I thought it was weird to make yogurt with snow peas but I decided to eat it. When I opened it, it was actually pink and really good Then I saw my co-worker around a rounded table in my kitchen and he had left me a voicemail before to ask me when I was going to start the business, and again I was discussing it with him. I told him the reason it's taking so long is because I don't have enough money and I am still exploring my options... The dream ended there but throughout the dream the main feeling was that I wasn't doing enough, that I was maing lame excuses and that I should move faster... hi, sorry about the txt speak first of all, i had no room to write lol. (i know some of the spell and grammar police are rather sensitive) basically, my parents went out last night, came home extremely drunk and my dad who couldn't walk straight guided my mum to a step in our garden, she fell, and broke her fall with her face. we didn't know at the time she had injured her thumb because her head was bleeding, it was only a graze though and i stayed up to watch her in case she had concussion or stopped breathing (im quite a worrier...) this morning however, she told me she thinks her thumb is broke, she has a ring of purple bruising around the bottom of her thumb, its swollen and red in the middle, and another ring of bruising, which is more black than blue around the actual thumb. she can move it, though its quite sore, but she cant grip anything, which is a major problem as we have a newly opened business, its essential we make our best effort in the early days or we'll have to close and my dad will have to earn ALL the money we need again. its a small tea room and farm shop and there is a lot of gripping needed, so i have been rushed off my feet all day. i asked mum to go to the hospital when we close, but she's adamant that they cant do anything for her and she doesnt have time. the reason being because yesterday was my birthday, i spent it alone so they feel guilty, but all i want is for her to get this injury sorted! how can i make her go? we close the shop at 5:30, so i said i would drive her there, but she has taken my car keys and told me 'we are going to have a meal and some birthday cake, we are not going to spend 5 hours waiting for a doctor to confirm what i already know!' My boyfriend was in the drugs business years ago but he stopped taking a while before we met and he's been clean for years now but the other month a man from his past turned up when he was at work demanding money that he owed from all that time ago, he was violent and told me that if my boyfriend didn't pay up by the next week i'd 'get it'. When he came home I told him and he said he'd sort out and we managed to scrape the money together and he paid him off which at the time seemed to solve the problem. We moved to a much smaller house but yesterday the same man came back when my boyfriend was at work again and forced his way past when I opened the door and blocked it so that I couldn't get out. He said that he wanted more money and I told him we'd paid him what he was owed. He said he didn't care about that he just wanted more and when I told him we couldn't afford to give him any more money he said id have to find some other way to pay him and put his hand down my top. I pushed him away and said no so he said i have to make a decision before tomorrow night or he'll be making it for me. I told my boyfriend when he came home and he said we'd get the money together some how but this has got way too out of hand and I don't think he'll be able to get the money. Hello, I am a 24 year old man who currently lives in Ontario, Canada. I have cerebral palsy and I am on disability. I live in a small, uninspired, boring, jobless and depressing town which I have lived in for about 5 years. I want to move!!! BADLY!!!!!!!! I am preparing to take my GED exams in a couple months here though. When I have my GED papers; I want to move to British Columbia maybe in the early second half of 2010. I have heard good things about BC regarding the climate, people, fun activity, and job opportunities and I would like to go there and make a clean sweep of my life. My goals are to go to school there and build a life for myself. Get into a career in medicine. While I am there; I want to makes new friends and settle down. Perhaps even open a small business. The town I currently live in is not populated by friendly, warm, and engaging people. Quite the opposite! When I moved here from another part of Ontario; I quickly noticed that people here are rather unfriendly, tight lipped, narrow minded and awkwardly anti-social. I visited here in the early 90’s and between then and now, it is just the same. Except for the fact that there are faster computers and a new stadium. I meant, the people are the same. There is very little to do here for entertainment too. Sorry for being negative, but that is pretty much how it is. I have heard and read very similar views on this town over the years. In the mean time; I need some advice on long distance moving. I really don’t know how to move long distances all by myself! The plan is to move myself with the Greyhound bus. Perhaps have a family member hold onto some of my things I can't really take right away. Non essential stuff like: books, stereo, game console, spare computer, ETC. And return later on the bus to pick it up bit by bit or have them ship it to me. As a student; I can use my ID and travel to BC from here one way with every bit of $100. That is fine by me. No big deal. Problem is: 1. How do I search for and secure an apartment in BC all the way from here!? 2. Where (which town) do I find a one bedroom apartment for around $550 per month? If “push comes to shove”; I would be perfectly willing to share a large two bedroom apartment with a roommate taking up the second room to help pay the bills. 3. I currently have on my hands; an apartment which is fully furnished! HERE in Ontario! Sadly I know I can only take a small portion of my belongings which I spent years accumulating. But I have this apartment to deal with; I can’t take it all with me. I am planning my future, I have to bite the bullet and say goodbye to a large chunk of my furnature. I can’t just leave my bed, table couch and everything else for my landlord to clean up/dispose of. That is not the act of a good tenant! I’m not a deadbeat tenant. 4. I have a 5 1/2 year old pet cat, which I love dearly. Greyhound won't let animals on board. And leaving her behind is not an option, not to mention cruel and unusual to the little beastie. What shall I do? I am on disability at the moment so I am limited money wise. 5. When I get there; I will quickly go to a local thrift store and purchase the following things for my apartment. Resolved Question: my boss doesn't like me and i feel my time at this place may be coming to an end. what should i do?

I'm 18 and this is actually my very first REAL job with an actual business. Before I would just babysit, petsit, walk dogs, clean houses etc. Anyway, I've only been working at this store (a pet store) since October! Not even 6 months! But it's not such a great store. I've found some of the practices at this store to be unethical and in some cases illegal. Aside from that, the atmosphere is anything but professional and sometimes not suitable for the many children that come into the store and my boss has even gone so far as to mention his sex life! COME ON!!! I decided to suck it up and move past this however until I rescued a puppy from the store. He was sick, in very bad shape, and couldn't be sold, so in order to save him from being put down immediately, which is what would have happened, I took him home. He's fine now, but I couldn't afford the surgery he needed so I got him to a rescue. This caused some problems because as much as I tried to keep the store from being associated with the puppy in any way, his early shots records had the store's name printed on the paper and I didn't realize it. The wonderful rescue requested that I give them all of his vet papers including his shots of course and the store did the shots themselves before I took him (without a vet license or having ever gone to veterinary school). One of my bosses became very angry and hasn't spoken to me much since then. It's very awkward now and of course nothing ever stays private at this place EVER and I know they've made it sound as if I'm trying to sabotage them. What should I do? It hasn't even been six months yet and it's my first real job getting real paychecks! Is it better to just wait for them to come up with a good enough excuse to fire me (good luck!) or should I quit now? I've actually been trying to apply to lots of other places around me to see if I can stabilize another job and then quit, but only adults with dependents are being hired in the very rare occasion that there's a job opening (not saying there's anything wrong with that- of course they need the job more than I, but I really REALLY need more money for college or I have to stop going!). In other words, no one seems to be hiring. What should I do? stay? quit? just wait? The only answer I got when I explained my dilemma somewhere else was that I should get the place shut down but I can't do that because there's a pretty cool guy there, very young, pretty accomplished, very nice with a wife and kids to support and with the shortage of jobs... and then there's another guy there who's also saving for college and living on his own...well I really can't do that no matter how the animal lovers may argue. Today there was this girl at school I met who has her whole life planned out, has her own appartment and job, and even adopted a boy who's parents died in a car crash! She wants to get a degree in medicine and open a free clinic in Uganda. The reason I brought this up is because I think I could do everything that she does. I can be as responsible as an adult, talk like an adult (in fact, the way I talk in a professional environment is much more natural than my school speaking voice), dress like an adult, and my values are solid. The only problem is, I'm holding myself back for a number of reasons 1) mature people are usually boring 2) I like to be playful and childish 3) I'm gay and I'm not attracted to mature guys. I'm more into bro types and they are really immature (which I find cute, especially because they always want to play) 4) I'm working my ass off now to start an internet business, but the end goal is to have enough money and be able to work anywhere in the world so that I can pretty be like a kid 5) probably the biggest reason is because I can get away with more if I'm immature. i can play stupid or pull the "I'm just a kid" card, even when I know full well I did it intentionally to get something however, this has created a number of problems 1) people don't respect me unless I make them (especially women, old people and teachers) when I'm mature, almost everyone respects me and I feel more like a man. 2) I respect myself less 3) as mentioned before, I'm learning how to start a business so that I can be childish and do whatever I want when I want it. the problem is, I might have to be very mature in order to get to the point wherer I can be childlike (internet sites don't take a lot to manage once you have a profitable system set up, but you have to work your ass off to get their) 4) I feel more true to myself and my values when I'm being mature so what do you think? should I be more mature or keep being immature more

ok, currently i am 19 years old and planning to go to college in the summer and i plan on majoring in business administration. my overall goal in life is to open up a successful chain of businesses. however i have no experience in business and that is why i plan to go to college. but recently i talked to my older sister and she told me college is not necessary... that i could go to the library or to a borders and i could just get some books on how to open a business there and i would save money as well as gain the knowledge on how to run a business.... so i am asking you guys what would be my best bet? college or the book?... more

hi everyone. i was just wondering if anyone here owned an car import business in AUSTRALIA and could share a bit of info? 1. do you need a special license to get multiple cars from overseas and sell them here? if so what is it called? 2. do you pay extra costs on top of the import costs if you are intending on selling the car? 3. how much would you estimate the business might cost to set up (online one without a block of land)? the reason im asking this is because im currently 17 and finishing year 12 and i wanted to open up an import business as soon as i get out of school. money is not a problem for me its just the process of setting up which i find daunting. more
