Standing next to James H. Mayes, president of ColorCraft of Virginia, President George W. Bush said Wednesday that it was small business like this one in Sterling that would benefit directly from economic stimulus package Congress passed earlier this year."There is a tax incentive to purchase machinery and software," Bush said. "That's important because when some buys machinery, when someone buys software, someone has to manufacture that product." Bush added that Mayes had done his part to help turn around the economy by committing to purchase new machinery for his company. The president visited ColorCraft Wednesday to discuss the benefits of the recently-enacted economic package. During his visited he met with workers, including bindery foreman Jeffrey Blake, who showed the president examples of the work that they do for clients around the region. more

Is Good Code Impossible This blog seems to have sparked a little bit of backlash towards me as if I were an irresponsible developer making things worse on my peers. I assure you, it’s not true. Sometimes, in business, we have to be willing to accept a little more work than we’d like or a little more hardship in general to gain something back. What was gained from the client was (A) good notoriety for having worked with them and (B) the promise of a longer and more lucrative Phase II. In all things, there is give and take. We gave as much as took. – When you hit your teenage years you decide you want to be a software developer. During your high school years, you learn how to write software using object-oriented principles. When you graduate to college, you apply all the principles you’ve learned to areas such as Artificial Intelligence or 3D graphics. And when you hit the professional circuit, you begin your never-ending quest to write commercial-quality, maintainable, and “perfect” code that will stand the test of time. Commercial-quality. Huh. That’s pretty funny. I consider myself lucky, I *love* design patterns. I like studying the theory of coding perfection. I have no problem starting up an hour-long discussion about why my XP partner’s choice of inheritance hierarchy is wrong — that HAS-A is better than IS-A in so many cases. But something has been bugging me lately and I am wondering something… …is good code impossible in modern software development? The Typical Project Proposal As a full-time contract developer (and part-time), I spend my days (and nights) developing mobile applications for clients. And what I’ve learned over the many years I’ve been doing this is that the demands of client work preclude me from writing the real quality apps that I’d like to be. Before I begin, let me just say it’s not for a lack of trying. I love the topic of clean code. I don’t know anyone who pursues that perfect software design like I do. It’s the execution that I find more elusive, and not for the reason you think. Here, let me tell you a story. Towards the end of last year, a pretty well-known company put out an RFP (Request for Proposol) to have an app built for them. They’re a huge retailer, but for the sake of anonymity let’s call them Gorilla Mart. They say they need to create an iPhone presence and would like an app produced for them by Black Friday. The catch? It’s already November 1st. That leaves just under 4 weeks to create the app. Oh, and at this time Apple is still taking two weeks to approve apps. (Ah, the good old days.) So, wait, this app has to be written in…TWO WEEKS?!?! Yes. We have two weeks to write this app. And unfortunately, we’ve won the bid. (In business, client importance matters.) This is going to happen. “But it’s OK,” Gorilla Mart Executive #1 says. “The app is simple. It just needs to show users a few products from our catalog and let them search for store locations. We already do it on our site. We’ll give you the graphics, too. You can probably — what’s the word — yeah, hardcode it!” Gorilla Mart Executive #2 chimes in, “And we just need a couple coupons the user can show at the cash register. The app will be a throwaway. Let’s get it out the door, and then for Phase II we’ll do something bigger and better from scratch.” And then it’s happening. Despite years of constant reminders that every feature a client asks for will always be more complex to write than it is to explain, you go for it. You really believe that this time, it really can be done in two weeks. Yes. Yes! We can do this! This time it’s different! It’s just a few graphics and a service call to get a store location. XML! No sweat. We can do this…I’m pumped! Let’s go!!! It takes just a day for you and reality to once again make acquaintance. Me: So, can you give me the info I need to call your store location Web Service? The Client: What’s a Web Service? Me: ……….. And that’s exactly how it happened. Their store location service, found right where it’s supposed to be on the top-right corner of their website, is not a web service. It’s generated by Java code. Ixnay with the API-ay. And to boot, it’s hosted by a Gorilla Mart strategic partner. Enter the nefarious “3rd party.” In client terms, a “3rd party” is akin to Angelina Jolie. Despite the promise that you’ll be able to have an enlightening conversation over a nice meal and hopefully hook up afterwards…sorry, it ain’t happenin’. You’re just gonna have to fantasize about it while you take care of business yourself. In my case, the only thing I was able to wrestle out of Gorilla Mart was a current snapshot of their current store listings in an Excel file. I had to write the store location search code from scratch. The double-whammy came later that day — they wanted the product and coupon data online so it could be changed weekly. There goes hardcoding! Two weeks to write an iPhone app have now be...come two weeks to write an iPhone app, a PHP backend, and integrate them togeth–what? They want me to handle QA, too?? To make up for the extra work, the coding will have to go a little faster. Forget that abstract factory, use a big fat for loop instead of the composite, there’s no time!!!! Good code has become impossible. Two Weeks To Completion Let me tell you, that two weeks was pretty miserable. First, two of the days were eliminated due to all-day meetings for my next project. (That amplifies how short a timeframe this was going to be.) Ultimately, I really had eight days to get things done. The first week I worked 74 hours and the next week…god…I don’t even recall it’s been eradicated from my synapses. Probably a good thing. I spent those eight days writing code in a fury. I used all the tools available to me to get it done: copy-and-paste (AKA re-usable code), magic numbers (avoiding the duplication of defining constants and then, gasp!, retyping them), andabsolutely NO unit tests! (Who needs red bars at a time like this, it’d just demotivate me!) It was pretty bad code and I never had time to refactor. Considering the timeframe, however, it was actually pretty stellar, and it was “throwaway” code after all, right? Does any of this sound familiar? Well just wait, it gets better. As I was putting the final touches on the app (the final touches being writing the entirety of the server code), I started to look at the codebase and wondered if maybe it was worth it. The app was done after all. I survived. I SURVI- “Hey, we just hired Bob, and he’s very busy and he couldn’t make the call, but he says we should be requiring users to provide their email addresses to get the coupons. He hasn’t seen the app, but he thinks this would be a great idea! We also want a reporting system to get those emails from the server. One that’s nice and not too expensive. (Wait, that last part was Monty Python.) Speaking of coupons, they need to be ableto expire after a number of days we specify. Oh, and…” Let’s step back. What do we know about what good code is? Good code should be extendable. Maintainable. It should lend itself to modification. It should read like prose. Well, this wasn’t good code. Another thing. If you want to be a better developer, you must always keep this inevitably in mind: The client will always extend the deadline. They will always want more features. They will always want change — LATE. And here’s the formula for what to expect: (# of Executives)2 + 2 * # of New Executives + Bob’s Kids = DAYS ADDED AT LAST MINUTE Now, Executives are decent people. I think. They provide for their family (assuming Satan has approved of their having one.) They want the app to succeed (promotion time!). The problem is that they all want a direct claim to the project’s success. When all is said and done, they all want to point at some feature or design decision they can each call their very own. So, back to thestory, we added a couple more days to the project and got the email feature done. And then I collapsed from exhaustion. The Clients Never Care As Much As You Do The clients, despite their protestations, despite their apparent urgency, never care as much as you do about the app being on time. The afternoon that I dubbed the app completed, I sent an email with the final build to all the stakeholders, Executives (hiss!), managers and so on. “IT IS DONE! I BRING YOU V1.0!!! PRAISE THY NAME.” I hit Send, lay back in my chair and with a smug grin began to fantasize how the company would run me up onto their shoulders and lead a procession down 42nd street while I was crowned “Greatest Developer Ev-ar.” At the very least, my face would be on all their advertising, right? Funny, they didn’t seem to agree. In fact, I wasn’t sure what they thought. I heard nothing. Not a peep. Turns out the folks at Gorilla Mart were eager to and had already moved on to the next thing. You think I lie?I pushed to the Apple Store without filling in an app description. I had requested one from Gorilla Mart and they hadn’t gotten back to me and there was no time to wait. (See previous paragraph.) I wrote them again. And again. I got some of our own management on it. Twice I heard back and twice I was told, “What did you need again?” I NEED THE APP DESCRIPTION! One week later, Apple started testing the app. This is usually a time of joyousness but it was instead a time for mortal dread. As expected, later in the day the app was rejected. It was about the saddest, poorest excuse to allow a rejection I can imagine: “App is missing an app description.” Functionally perfect; no app description. And for this reason Gorilla Mart didn’t have their app ready for Black Friday. I was pretty upset. I’d sacrificed my family for a 2-week super sprint, and no one at Gorilla Mart could be bothered to create an app description given a week of time. They gave it to us an hour after the rejection —apparently that was the signal to get down to business. If I was upset before, I would become livid a week and a half after that. You see, they still hadn’t gotten us real data. The products and coupons on the server were fake. Imaginary. The coupon code was 1234567890. You know, phoney baloney. (Balogna is spelled baloney when used in that context, BTW.) And it was that fateful morning, I checked the Portal and THE APP WAS AVAILABLE! Fake data and all! I cried out in abject horror and called up whoever I could and screamed, “I NEED THE DATA!!!!” and the woman on the other end asked me if I needed fire or police and so I hung up on 911. But then I called Gorilla Mart and was like, “I NEED DATA!!!!” and I’ll never forget the response: Oh, hey there John. We have a new VP and we’ve decided not to release. Pull it off the App Store, would you? In the end, it turned out that at least 11 people registered their email addresses in the database, which meant there were 11 peoplethat could potentially walk into a Gorilla Mart with a fake iPhone coupon in tow. Boy, that might get ugly. When it was all said and done, the client had said one thing correctly all along: the code was a throwaway. The only problem is it was never released in the first place. Rush To Complete, Slow To Market The lesson here is that your stakeholders, whether an external client or internal management, have figured out how to get developers to write code quickly. Effectively? No. Quickly? Yes. Here’s how it works: Tell the developer the app is simple. This serves to pressure the development team into a false frame of mind. It also gets the developers to start working earlier, whereby they… Add features by faulting the team for not recognizing their necessity. In this case, the hardcoded content was going to require app updates to change. How could I not realize that? I did, but I’d been handed a false promise earlier, that’s why. Or a client will hire “a new guy” who’srecognized there is some obvious omission. One day a client will say they just hired Steve Jobs and can we add alchemy to the app? Then they’ll… Push the deadline. Over and over. Developers work their fastest and hardest (and BTW are at their most error-prone, but who cares about that, right?) with a couple days to go on a deadline. Why tell them you can push the date out further while they’re being so productive? Take advantage of it! And so it goes, a few days are added, a week is added, just when you had worked a 20-hour shift to get everything just right. It’s like a donkey and carrot, except you’re not treated as well as the donkey. It’s a brilliant playbook. Can you blame them for thinking it works? But they don’t see the god-awful code. And so it happens time and again despite the results. Code Impossible In a globalized economy, where corporations are held to the almighty dollar and raising the stock price involves layoffs, overworked staffs, and offshoring, thisstrategy I’ve shown you of cutting developer costs is making good code obsolete. As developers, we’re going to be asked told conned into writing twice the code in half the time if we’re not careful. What can we do about it?Your Code Sucks There's no quick way to tell if code is good or bad without understanding the entire solution. 07/29/2010 Your Code Sucks A very good friend of mine is in the midst of an avalanche of work. He has a lot of open contracts, and has been abandoned by a fellow developer that was helping him with his workload. So, with three huge clients breathing down his neck he has been working non stop for weeks now. One client contacted him about the iPad application he is building for them, he let him know "I paid another developer to look at your code, he says it really sucks." When he told me this story, I had to chuckle a bit, and think of all the times I had decided that other people's code sucked. When I first started out, and I looked at code that definitely sucked hard, I scrapped it, and started from scratch in a way I knew was way better. As I matured I looked back and realized that what I had destroyed was a well accepted design pattern, and what Icreated was a mess of a mess pattern. Lesson learned. After some growth I encountered code that I thought sucked ever so often. At this point I wasn't decimating things all together, I would find specific parts of code that I found intolorable and rewrite it. About 9 times out of 10, when I got more than halfway there I'd run into an issue that made me say "Ooooh, that's why they did it that way" and revert it or use the same "sucky" logic with my syntax. Now that I am a little more seasoned, I can tell you with all confidence that I never look at a solution that someone else created and say "Oh, this code sucks." I know that there really is no quick way to tell if code is good or bad without understanding the entire solution. Sure, sometimes things can look sloppy, or poorly done, or undocumented (in my case, not self documenting), however, you never know what was going through the head of the developer that wrote it. More often than not there is a reason why they havedone things this way, and there is no hard and fast way to tell what the context is without being elbow deep in it. So, when I hear that someone has looked at someone else's code base and determined that it sucked I smile and remember what it was like to be so new and sure of myself. So sure that I was an amazing developer, and that I knew what was best in every problematic situation. I miss that swagger, but I appreciate what I have learned, and that is the only person's code that sucks is my own, and the reason why it sucks is I just haven't learned how to make it better yet. moreResolved Question: blogs and business? 14 year old girls...?

I was wanting to know what others have found out there that you could either give me some links on where to apply for a great paying job from home, or a legit company that pays under the table, a good mystery shoppers web site to sign up for, or a payroll job working from home that pays well that pays by the hour, or a possible work from home business that does not cost an arm and a leg to get signed up and started. What I do not understand is these scam sites that are telling you not to apply here or there says stay away from companies that ask for money up front, but what if it is a business they are wanting to help you create, and they are asking for start-up costs like to help build your site, send you the info, cds, and book on the company or how to make money then they will connect you with a personal trainer and so forth??? If some of you all help me by telling me which direction to go in I would appreciate it. Thnx so much. moreResolved Question: How do you know what to do/decide, among many informations & opinions?
I admit I have a huge problem with this one (and seriously want to tackle this problem completely, since i'm not young anymore, and need to start handling life very seriously, so not to be controlled by my current sucky life's circumstances)! example: i always *know* where I want to become in life, but then, the problem always seems to be i always have so much hesitations & questions & confusions to just start DOING it. it usually goes like this: let's say I know I want to start a personal-development blog. but since I'm new to this thing, I'm looking for such informations on the internet, ie: how to create, how to design, etc. But the problem is, sometimes I browse endlessly (and it is endless!), constantly searching in forums & discussion boards & websites etc on the *BEST* way to do it. It sucks up my time so much, and what's worst is, at the end, after an endless searching for other people's opinions, I usually just felt more overwhelmed by so many variations in the opinions (why i can't just realize that each person is different?), and even comes out more confused! and then..I would browse, browse again, and after a week, will suddenly forget about that blogging thing, and continue searching for the *perfect*, best plan that will maximize/leverage where i want to become! I have to admit, that maybe it's because such tremendous fear/pressure of being a 27 yrs old (soon to be 28 yrs old), and all that ever-increasing parent's expectations (and here in Asia, it's kinda a tradition i have to follow my dad's footsteps or business, which i really hate it or have zero interest in it), and thus, comes the need for searching that *PERFECT* "how to start" plan,..while ironically, it only makes me felt very overwhelmed because of too many informations (on the internet especially), and opinions (sometimes even contradictory ones!), and just generally don't know how or where to START! for those of you who've done a LOT of things in life, and this includes from most, very important thing like: what to choose/do in career (and make money to feed the stomach), how to speak to your parents if you don't agree with their decisions, until the 'not so urgent' one like: starting a carpentry, start teaching, start the bookstore or library business, even planning to skydiving, etc. HOW or from WHERE i should start? how do you manage/able to seek for informations (especially if you're new to the thing you're about to to start/do), and *not* getting drowned in the seemingly endless sea of informations and people's opinions? how to also KNOW the *right/correct* opinion to hear, and the *wrong* opinion to hear? and how to STOP looking endlessly for that *perfect* plan or answer, and able to just DO it? (easier said than done, at least for me, who often have such complex thought process!) bottom line: how do you know where to start, and how to really start, just do it, and stick with it? thanks! moreResolved Question: i have a big facebook problem plz help !?

Circumstances have it such that I am down here in a tiny Sonoran Desert town in southern Arizona, over a hundred miles from Phoenix or Tucson, and I am looking for some constructive way to use some of my time and abilities. I would like to create a forum where I can dialog with people who are looking for hope. Hope has saved me in desperate times and I am convinced that whoever offers the most hope, has the most authority, so I'd like to be about that business, if I can set up some kind of internet forum that can generate questions/ correspondence. I fumble terribly with all the features online, so that's why I am writing to Answers. Could use some good suggestions and guidance on creating a means to stay busy while at the same time, be of service and find a degree of fulfillment. I appreciate your help. moreResolved Question: Can you refute this article about uselessness of college education?
http://willblogforfood.typepad.com/will_blog_for_food/2008/10/joe-the-plumber.html I don't think we have to feel sorry for Joe. He's making good money. He has his own business. Plumbing can't be off-shored. It's a job skill that will always be in demand. He is in a position to marry, start a family and buy a house right out of high school instead of waiting 4-8 years until he gets out of college. The idea that everyone needs to go to college is a bunch of bull. Not everyone has the aptitude for college nor are there jobs available in sufficient numbers for college graduates. A college diploma allows you to go and beg some employer for a job and usually does not equip the graduate to start his own business except in certain fields like medicine, law and architecture. The myth that having a college education is part of the American dream is a bunch of crap. A lot of men want to work with their hands, do something useful, not have to suck up to their employer and not be in a position to either be layed off or have their job off-shored. You can be a plumber, an electrician, a landscaper and hundreds of other professions, have your own business, make good money and not have to suck up to anybody. A college degree represents a social contract to an extent. It represents the fact that the person holding it, having obtained it in good faith, should be taken care of by society and provided with a job. That's the social contract. But in America the social contract is a hoax. Instead, a college degree just represents job security for college professors and administrators. They've successfully created the myth that everybody needs to go to college in order to further their own job security. Basically, it's just advertising. And they use false statistics to do it. How many times have we heard that "the average college graduate makes a million dollars more over the course of a lifetime than the average high school graduate." This is lying with statistics writ large. Did they include Bill Gates in their statistical sample? Or Larry Ellison? Or Michael Dell? They're all college drop-outs and mega-billionaires and the irony of ironies is that they're all in high tech fields, the kinds that you have to go to college for and study and study. Oh, by the way, Joe the Plumber might be a high school drop-out too thereby gaining an even greater advantage in terms of earning power over his college bound peers, having started earning money 4 to 10 years earlier than his classmates. Joe probably has a great paying self-employed business, a wife and a family and an almost paid for house by the time his college bound classmates have graduated from college with a $100K debt! moreResolved Question: "GM, Amtrak and an increasingly fascist America" by Ron Paul - what do you think?
http://www.house.gov/htbin/blog_inc?BLOG,tx14_paul,blog,999,All,Item%20not%20found,ID=090608_2962,TEMPLATE=postingdetail.shtml "Last week, General Motors finally declared bankruptcy. Many in government thought $20 billion in taxpayer dollars would save the company, but as predicted, it only postponed the inevitable. The government will dump another $30 billion into GM and take a 60 percent controlling interest for it. Public officials are now involving themselves in tactical business decisions such as where GM’s headquarters should move and what kind of cars it will build. The promise that this is temporary and will eventually be profitable is supposed to ease the American people into accepting this arrangement, but it is of little comfort to those who remember similar promises when the American taxpayers bought Amtrak. After three years, government was supposed to be out of the passenger rail business. 40 years and billions of dollars later, the government is still operating Amtrak at a loss, despite the fact that they have created a monopoly by making it illegal to compete with Amtrak. Imagine what they can now do to what is left of the great American auto industry! In a truly free market, GM would get your money one way and one way only – by selling you a car you want, at a price you are willing to pay. Instead, the government is giving public money to a private company in spite of the market signals it has been sending. Throwing money at GM does not stop it from being an engine of wealth destruction; on the contrary, it simply gives it more wealth to destroy. Had it been allowed to fail naturally, the profitable pieces of GM would have been bought up and put to good use by now. The laid off employees would likely have found new jobs and all that capital would be in private hands, reinvested in companies that produce products demanded by consumers. Instead, we are all poorer now. Political pressure, rather than the rule of law, is deciding how to divide up the remains of GM. The bondholders had billions in retirement savings invested in the company, and though they were entitled to nearly three times as much as the United Auto Workers, the bondholders were left with just a 10 percent stake compared to the union’s 17.5 percent stake. For their 60 percent stake, taxpayers have a future of constant bailouts to look forward to. Comingling public control of private business is known as fascism. While today’s politicians may feel emboldened with all their new power, history will only repeat itself as all this collapses on itself. It is the height of hubris for bureaucrats and politicians to attempt to control the market and the freewill of the American people. In the end, the market always wins out. Maybe one day future generations will wise up and allow free markets to function and thrive without the albatross of government around its neck. For now, it looks like those in charge have not learned the lessons of the past, and have doomed us to repeat those mistakes once again.Did you realize that the so called 'institutional' bondholders were investing people's retirement funds? And were squeezed out of what they were owed?ginger, government controlled industry is. Railroads are only a portion of that.michael P, fascism has to do with the level of government control, it is philosophicaly neutral. Someone I know, who is basically one of those people that think he alone knows how the world works and no one else, brags that he came up with the solution to the economic woes. here is his blog: "So I had the great idea, of what I believe is something that could help the free market and the American People, and maybe the government opposed to trying to tame or "fix it," like the government apparently thinks it can. If you're unaware, the company currently in the midst of all this-major banking/government bullshit-problems has been AIG {American International Group]. Hardly American to me. AIG is is a lot of heat because they quote "lost 63 Billion dollars." Yeah, just lost it. Um? [crickets]. That is your tax money, ladies and gentlemen. How do they loose 63 Billion Dollars? That is ridiculous! They got that money about a month, maybe a month and a half ago and thats like 2 Billion Dollars a DAY! HOLY SHIT! If not more. My epiphany was this. Why not give the 300+ million People in America, each one million dollars if they are of the age of 18 and up. Just give them the money. This is less then 1/8th the amount given to a PRIVATE CORPORATION. The idea would be to stimulate the free market as the people are the ones participating in the majority of commerce. [Note: I do not believe any of the great empires have done this before, but I could be wrong, but it could be a first] The bill, the "Pumping System Bill" would be inactive for 3-years in 2-year sets. It would be like a jolt to the Economy [if you need some imagery] So for the first 3 years, everyone who is 18 and up would receive 1 million dollars. They would only be allowed one million dollars. No more no less. [Group Epiphany: Seniors would have their own means of Social Security. Young people could get out of Social Security, and the Medicare Systems People would have money for Health Insurance. By this many this would help to elevate the Medical Complex. People would be getting themselves out of Credit Card Debt. A Utopia would be created within a Democracy. Go figure] Also a rule would have to go into effect [thanks Deven] that the price of all products could NOT raise more then 2% of its original price prior to the bill being active. The price could go up as it needs to go up or go down, w/e the case, but just because everyone gets a million dollars doesn't mean that a 25,000.00 car should go up to 100,000.00 Ok. So people are skeptical but look at it this way. Even if 40% of the population had invested their money in banks, that would help to re-establish that system. Plus it would benefit everybody. If nobody is to invest their money it will stimulate the economy as people are going to be buying products, houses, getting themselves out of debt, etc. [If nobody invest then that is 300 million dollars being placed in the economy. 300 million being directly injected in, where it matters. The market place] By giving the million dollars out, you have lifted the people out of a slum they had been put in. It might be partially a "socialist plan," but I think this is a great idea that should be challenged and looked into. Investigated and researched upon. And nobody REALLY becomes any different because the person who made 65,000 per year is now the 1,065,000.00 person and the person who made 80,000 dollars per year is the 1,080,000.00 person. Basically, the rich can not get their nuts in bunches because nobody jumped any classes of "wealth." People would leave their jobs [most likely sick or Senior Citizens], but if they did that would open up and give jobs to whom are looking for work. If not, I am sure many would try opening up businesses, and this would create jobs as well. One problem may be that the infrastructure of the ghettos, projects, and cities would fall apart, as if you have major money why not go live in a better area. The idea of people either affording these areas V the idea of people leaving these areas would probably be up in the air. But to help prevent this, maybe "projects" would be created to help clean up these areas before the millions were dispersed. Once again, they could probably take an 1/8th of that 63 billion and invest in our communities-in-need. Another part of this 63 billion, probably and 1/8th again could go back into the payroll of nurses, officers, teachers, firefighters, and public buildings in need. But a major rule would have to deal with all banks and all the investing firms, companies, etc. They would need to insure the all money that would be invested from this "Pumping System Bill." In their long term funds, bonds, etc all money & interest would need to be insured. Up to every dollar of every person. Hopefully this would help with the bankers stealing from long term funds. [I don't know to much of this area so it would need to be looked into.] Also in the bill we might as well include the idea of creating sound mortgages again. I forget what the tesome got cut off but here is the end: "So all-in-all I believe the Inflation would not be as bad as they'd make it out to seem. The free markets would take over and I believe it would help to alleviate the pain that a lot of people are feeling. I believe this could get people from A to B. Please help me to fix this idea and tame it better if you really think that this is a plausible idea. All are welcomed to be tagged, comment, etc. If something can be worded better please let me know. Thanks Chris" moreResolved Question: What is Joomla and how do you use it to allow a client to update their page?
I have installed Joomla and had a quick ook around, is it just a blog creator creating sites like blogger.com?? I thought it would somehow help you update a wep page you have made. For example say i create some business a website "kklproperty.com" for ex. and this company get a new house on the market and they have to add the details and picture of that house onto say the front page of their site or whatever page they add it too, now being non-tech people they can't be expected to work with html/css/js etc....out of the question. So i was thinking what is the best way for them to update the site without contacting me, i could write a front end editor in php which woulnd't be to hard to do which would allow them to add input some text and a picture say and the editor would add the needed html/css to the page, essentially i would be writing a CMS in php. But i keep hearing about Joomla CMS etc....so i assumed it would be a front end editor that would allow me to edit my site i have created, but it doesn't seem like that, it seems a stand-alone blog creator, is this right, i can hardly create a blog like site for a professional business to use.... ?? Am i going to have to write a seperate php CMS for every web page i design, i though joomla was like a general CMS that could examine your pages struture and allow you to edit the code etc....... I must have the wrong idea of what Joomla is................??? moreResolved Question: leader & a common person must receive treatment of laws. so is equity for we the people, it is not happenning?

Obama's False and Misleading Ad A misleading ad from Barack Obama distorts Heritage's view of the candidate's tax plan. Help us correct the record. Barack Obama's campaign is running a TV ad called "Try This." The 30-second spot cites The Heritage Foundation and suggests we support his tax plan. Because the Obama campaign is playing fast and loose with the facts, Heritage has asked him to pull the ad. He has ignored our request. Here's what you need to know about the false ad: •The New York Sun ran an article in August incorrectly paraphrasing the view of Heritage policy analyst Rea Hederman on Obama's tax plan. •Obama's ad uses language from the New York Sun reporter who interviewed and summarized Hederman's views erroneously. •Even though Hederman never said what Obama attributes to Heritage in the ad, Obama continues to air the commercial. Heritage has made it's views on Obama's tax plan well known: •Shortly after Obama secured the Democrat nomination, Hederman wrote that Obama's plan would impose European levels of taxation on America. •When an Obama surrogate wrote in the Wall Street Journal that Heritage favored Obama's tax plan, Hederman immediately sent a letter to the editor correcting the record. •Heritage's Center for Data Analysis released a thorough analysis of both candidates' tax plans, concluding the McCain plan is better for the middle class. Under the McCain plan, after-tax income goes up by $5,100 for a middle-class family of four vs. $3,600 under the Obama plan. The economy performs better and twice as many jobs are created under the McCain plan. Obama's refusal to correct the record or pull the ad does a disservice to voters who want factual and accurate information. As a result, Heritage's attorney wrote to TV stations airing the ad, requesting they pull it immediately. We encourage you to let us know if you've seen the ad air in your local market. Barack Obama has spent more money on political advertising than any campaign in history. In the case of his 30-second spot, “Try This,” we’d like the Democrat presidential to try honesty instead. The misleading and false ad suggests The Heritage Foundation supports his tax plan. Nothing could be further from the truth. We’ve asked the campaign to pull the ad and have contacted TV stations directly. Now we’ve created our own ad to set the record straight. http://blog.heritage.org/2008/10/31/setting-the-record-straight-obamas-misleading-tax-ad/ moreResolved Question: Do you agree with this political Philosophy? Can you point out flaws in the arguments and the good arguments? ?
The first main topics are Civil Rights and the Economy. All quotes can be found at Obama’s website. Civil Rights “Obama and Biden will work to overturn the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that curtails racial minorities’ and women’s ability to challenge pay discrimination. They will also pass the Fair Pay Act to ensure that women receive equal pay for equal work and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.“ Translation: Obama and Biden will destory employers’ rights. The right to determine how much work your employees do, and how valuable it is to the company will be put in the hands of big brother. They think the courts have the uncanny ability to determine how important an employee is, and how much they should be payed. Not only do they believe the courts have that ability, they think it is moral to force an employer to pay an employee a certain wage. The government will be a part of every company by making key decisions, like hand picking employees and wages. Another hit to free market policies. Obama and Biden do not understand the basic driving factors of a free market. That if companies make stupid business decisions, such as hire people less capable of doing a job, they suffer to their competition. The Economy “Enact a Windfall Profits Tax to Provide a $1,000 Emergency Energy Rebate to American Families:Barack Obama and Joe Biden will enact a windfall profits tax on excessive oil company profits to give American families an immediate $1,000 emergency energy rebate to help families pay rising bills. This relief would be a down payment on the Obama-Biden long-term plan to provide middle-class families with at least $1,000 per year in permanent tax relief.“ Translation: Obama and Biden will decide what is defined as “excessive profits”. They will decide when private property, wealth, is no longer private, and when it can be redistributed. They will allow the majority to decide when it is ok to steal from the minority corporations. They are making another step toward complete redistribution of wealth at the discretion of a majority. “Deploy Next-Generation Broadband: Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe we can get broadband to every community in America through a combination of reform of the Universal Service Fund, better use of the nation’s wireless spectrum, promotion of next-generation facilities, technologies and applications, and new tax and loan incentives.“ Translation: Attempt to create a monopoly on broadband services. Who has the chance to compete with a business with unlimited funds by means of a printing press? Obama and Biden believe that broadband is a right for every individual that must be payed in full by the ability of another. Complete socialism driven concept that the government can spend money better than the tax payer. That government can run companies better than an entrepreneur. Protect Striking Workers: Obama and Biden support the right of workers to bargain collectively and strike if necessary. They will work to ban the permanent replacement of striking workers, so workers can stand up for themselves without worrying about losing their livelihoods. Translation: Obama and Biden will personally allow the majority to decide over the minority employers, when workers have the right to strike and when employers dont have the right to higher new workers. Obama and Biden can better understand feuds between employees and employers than the employees and employers themselves. Since they have this great ability, they will ban the right of employers to act as they see fit. Yet another stance on destroying employer rights. Free choice for employees, screw the corporations. I will continue more on Economy and move on to the next session next blog. All the issues will be covered over time in this fashion at www.myspace.com/dcgc34 if you want to read more.Kisshoma: I would have appreciated your answer on your one sided view if you would have explained how my one sided view is wrong. All you say is that I am wrong. At least my one sided view attempts to explain how you are wrong. What are my best options?
I'm a little too old to fully understand what a blog is and how to get one, but am willing to learn if that is a good way to get out there. Is this something I should try? I am also looking into some free website services so I can create and put up a webpage. Can you recommend a good, free option for creating a page? Microsoft's OfficeLive.com offers a page plus a store on Ebay. Anyone have experience with that? Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help. moreResolved Question: I'm trying to create a professional looking website and i need a little help (just a lilttle)?
I have an amazing idea for a non profit website that i think might help save some lives dealing with depression, etc. My only problem is i am not quite sure how to get there): I want it to look fairly polished with an intro page and different sections where i can input articles and a comment feature for readers. sort of like a blog if you will, but not quite; i want my site to look better than just your average blog. I have basic knowledge in Java (computer science), Management Information Systems (college business class dealing with databases ala access and excel), HTML, Pay per click, google Adwords, and i looked into ASP.Net today (which I think is a server side language but not quite sure if i should use this?) Is there a site i can use for server space? what programs should i use to errect the site? do i write it in HTML? do i need server language? in essence what steps should i take to create this site? Any reply will be GREATLY appreciated (:I think i have all the "know how" for how to make the site. I'm just not sure how to put it all together. moreResolved Question: Are you Addicted to Myspace?

Any advice?
I just spent 4 hours searching for a FREE wed site provider. Geocities drove me nuts, (although it seemed like the best) 50megs is confusing, Angelfire lost me, webNG.com is so confusing I just deleted it. Myspace seemed to be on a general basis: dating/relationship/chat/journal/whatever level....so where do I go? I am completely lost when it comes to comprehending how to start a website! I need a website for "dummies" I guess! Does anyone know of a site that offers free web sites, easy to use, I don't understand HTML copy paste or whatever! Not a "blog" (unless you think that will work) but a website, where I can do whatever I want. Offer my business services (notary public, mailed legal forms, advice, ) With background templetes, sound, guestbook, counter and more? Anyone have a great website that was easily created? Share your site and knowledge for 10 points! moreResolved Question: I need a FREE website for a new business service. Any advice?

The AJC Bill Allen blog is still open for business, click below and send in your remarks. Let people know that if HB1059 is allowed to stand, it will create the LARGEST FORCED RELOCATION of women and children and AMERICAN CITIZENS since the Japanese-Americans were sent to internment camps during World War II. Let people know that in the ten core Atlanta Metro counties, of 2533 registered offenders and their families, 2482 will have to move. Then ask them how they cannot see that as a LARGE SCALE FORCED RELOCATION?
