Wife and husband engage in Funny business

The one thing in their marriage that Melanie Troxel and Tommy Johnson try not to discuss at the dinner table is their jobs.

Both are drivers in the National Hot Rod Association and, for the first time this year, they are racing in the same series - Funny Car.

"I wasn't the biggest fan of it right away," Johnson said of competing against his wife of four years. "I didn't like the idea of us having to race each other and having that extra added pressure or aggravation

"But I knew there was a point in time when she wanted to run Funny Car. I had to remove myself from my shoes and put myself in hers. But, we've found out that, even in our personal lives, our techniques of doing things are different."

Pacific, Eureka officials, volunteers working feverishly against flood

Aided by dozens of volunteers, local emergency and city officials are focusing on resident safety and doing what they can to protect homes and businesses as area rivers continue to rise.Flood waters from the Meramec and Big rivers have closed roads and forced many Eureka and Pacific residents out of their homes into local hotels, friends' or family's houses or to emergency shelters."Eureka has become four different islands," said Kate Moore, public information officer for the Eureka Fire Protection District. "We've got several areas that are completely shut off - Hoehne Springs (along Highway W), the Highway FF area, Highway 109 and Allenton. We encouraged people in those areas to leave, and most of them evacuated, but we've got about 10 people who just aren't going to go."Eureka firefighters already have been called to rescue several people who tried to drive through flooded areas, and Moore said emergency officials expect they'll be called out again before the flood waters recede late this weekend.Many times those rescues become a necessity because people try to drive or steer a boat through flood waters, Moore said."We try our best to warn people against it, but there are people who underestimate the force of the flood waters and who think their vehicle or their boat can get through," Moore said. more

Vietnam, RoK businesses make deals in Seoul

VietNamNet Bridge – Businesses of Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) signed four deals worth totally at 1.15 billion USD at the two countries' Business Forum in Seoul on March 21.

In the witness of the visiting Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong, Vietnam's Saigon Investment Group signed a 600 million USD contract to develop a residential area in Ho Chi Minh City with the RoK's IDEA company and another 50 million USD with the Seuing-Il company.

The Vietnamese Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and the Daewoo Capital of the RoK agreed a 300 million USD deal, while the CIENCO5 of Vietnam and KUMHO E&C shook hands for a 200 million USD project.

Addressing the forum, NA Chairman Trong, who arrived in the RoK for an official visit on March 20, said that the bilateral economic cooperation was built on a firm foundation of cultural similarities and a fine political relation. more

New businesses bring 260 new jobs to JeffCo

New data indicates that business startups in Jefferson County created nearly 260 new jobs in the last four months.

The Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce conducted a survey of 955 new business license applicants from November 2007 to February 2008.

The study showed that capital investment by the new businesses topped more than $3.7 million and they absorbed more than 185,000 square feet of space in their locations.

According to the chamber's study, in that four-month time period, January reported 340 new business licenses - the highest of the four months. The lowest was in December, with 198 new licenses.

Thanks The Domestic Intelligence Service The following protocol, internal structure and directives are for the advancement and formation of the D.I.S. First and foremost the D.I.S. should operate independetnly of any and all other Federal agencies and entites. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is to-date the only agency officially over seeing domestic intelligence. The F.B.I. is not suited for this task. This goes without saying. The National Security Agency is not suited for the task of internal ( domestic ) covert operations as its primary role is heavily influenced by its SIGNET duties and obligations. The formation of the D.I.S. operating as an independent domestic service would allow manpower burdens on the F.B.I. to be eased and the F.B.I. caseload to be downsized to its law enforcement responsiblities only. The Domestic Intelligence Service should have no central headquarters or fixed facility such as the Central Intelligence Agency does in Virginia. Instead the D.I.S.'s various departments, analysis boards and other offices will be scattered throughout the United States and the locations of such shall be unknown to the public or media at large. There shall be no markings of any kind indentifying the locations of such D.I.S. facilities. There shall be no "centralization" of the key or secondary offices of the D.I.S. D.I.S. Field Officers All officer candidates shall be natural U.S. American citizens by birth. Officer candidates will be of sound mind and body and will have no alligence to any foreign governments or any foreign entities. D.I.S. officers will be of the anglo race and have a strict sense of loyalty to God, Nation, Family and Community. The average D.I.S officer will be educated in matters of nation security and intelligence gathering in all its various facets. College degrees will not be accepted by the D.I.S. as a mere qualification for induction into the the D.I.S. The D.I.S. will seek officers that have experience in related fields of natoional security. There shall be no foreign language minimum required by the D.I.S. to qualify a candidate for induction. The D.I.S. reserves the right to hire, at will, anyone with a criminal record or ties to criminal activity. The D.I.S. shall evaluate candidates for induction through a series of psychological, and physical tests ( not lasting longer than 4 weeks ) defined under "D.I.S. personnel requirements policies". Covert officers will be required to attend a 24 week advanced training program and will have no outside contact during this time. After a candidate's successful completion of the advanced training program that candidate shall be made an official officer of the D.I.S. at which time that officer shall take an oath and clearly understand to keep their mouth shut about D.I.S. affairs and operations that they have knowledge of. Newly inducted officers will sign a writen contract of silence. Any officer leaving the D.I.S. will still be bound by this contract. Any officer, that upon leaving the D.I.S., is found to be volunteering information to the media and/or public will understand, by signing this contract, that they will be dealt with quickly and violently. The Central Intelligence Agency clearly has a current problem with their former agents, but this will not be the case with the D.I.S. D.I.S. Operations All D.I.S. operations will be conducted in a covert manner and no D.I.S. operation will ever be overt in nature. Our officers will rely on their skills and intelligence to conduct D.I.S. operations and will never be given any type of official identification. No D.I.S. officer shall ever have powers of arrest. The operations conducted by the D.I.S. may sometimes call for illegal activity and will in some cases cause the arrest, trial and conviction of D.I.S. officers. Unfortunaely for the sake of both national and service security that officer will be on their own and left to deal with the legalities of such a "failed operation". The D.I.S. is, for all intensive purposes, an organization that will simply not exist at all in the public eye. The D.I.S. will require its officers to have balls of steel and a very high sense of duty to God, Nation, Family and Community. The D.I.S will not find this in college kids looking to make money hand over fist. D.I.S operations will call for officers that understand sacrifice and not self-gain. D.I.S. operations will be responsible for producing accurate intelligence and not some outsourced intelligence gathering that produces major errors. D.I.S. Pay Grades The D.I.S will neither recognize nor seek to establish pay grades based on D.I.S. employee titles or job descriptions. The annual pay rate per employee will be $30,000.00 and will not exceed this amount unless this annual income is evaluated for adjustments for the reason of cost of living only. The 30K annual income per employee will be applied to all officers, administrative staff, analysis board members and national and regional directors. Employee expenditures will be adjusted to off set the cost of living on a five year evaluational basis. There shall be no bonuses, financial perks, financial gifts, stocks, bonds or material gifts added to the the income of any D.I.S. employee. The D.I.S. is in the business of service to country and not the service of personal or mutual financial gain. Personal finances or personal properties gained by D.I.S. officials will be investigated dog-ed-ly and any violator of "Pay Grade Guidelines" will be prosecuted before a D.I.S. tribunal/committee and if found guilty will be released from their service with the D.I.S. as well as forfiet any future pension they may have been entitled to. Upon such a tribunal conviction and release from service the "contract of silense" is still a binding contract upon said individual/s. D.I.S. Operations Funding Opertional funding shall be sought by the D.I.S. from the United States Congress, but shall not be limited to tax payer funding only. Other founding may be sought after through private and corporate interests as well. These differences in monetary funding will be dissected into two operational categories. Public funding which will come from Congress and special operations funding which will come from private and corporate contributors. Public funding will be appropriated for official D.I.S. operations and will be closely monitored by every aspect of the adminsistrative arm of the D.I.S. Special operations funding does not have to be answered for as far as Congress wanting to know where tax payer money is going. Therefore, any and all special operations monetary funds can be used for activities that may not be favored by the general public. Special operations monetary funding will not be accepted from any contributing source that is seeking to influence or disrupt their corporate rivals . Special operations funding may be contributed to from any U.S. sources, but may not be accepted from any foreign sources whatsoever. Special operations funding will be well documented as "private donations" and closely monitored by the National Analysis Board members. Special operations monetary funds shall be appropiated to operations that the D.I.S. National Analysis Board members agree upon by way of a two-thirds ( 2./3 ) vote. Such funds will then be passed on to the targeted Regional Anaylsis Boards for the use of these monetary funds in operations only after the targeted Regional Analysis Boards have made a complete "Threat and Risk Analysis Report" and such a report has been received by the National Anaylsis Board and its members. Interim reports will also be required from the Regional Directors of Regional Analysis Boards requesting special operations funds in order to receive special operations monetary funds. I need help indentifying various ways to reduce the forms of pollution that have been identified. Determine whcih approach would be most feasible in the community. Water and Air Analysis of Home Living in a small town where the major businesses are the local supermarket and the Dairy Queen restaurant, the people of Cooper, TX, may not believe there is a need to be concerned with pollution forms the water and air. Since this is a small town, there are limits to the type of monitoring of pollutants available. When people think of the word pollution, they associate it with chemical factories, manufacture companies, and waste management businesses. Pollution in the water and air can still exist in a community without the reality of these types of companies. With limited tracking methods for pollutants in this community, there are potential risks that the community needs to become aware of. There are not any industrial companies, but farming is a chief source of income for the town. Smog and soot are not high factors for reducing the air quality of the town. “According to research conducted by Scoreboard.com, Cooper ranks amount the cleaner 30% of all counties in the United States in terms of pm-10 emissions” (Scoreboard.com ). Fugitive dust from road traffic and construction are the leading containments for decreasing air quality. In rural communities, while commercial waste management companies pick up trash on a weekly and bi-weekly basis, open burning of trash is very common. Wildfires and open trash burning represent half of the town’s air pollution sources. There have not been any harmful effects from air pollutants detected or linked to causing illness, diseases, or cancer. The economy is affected when open burning gets out of control and results in wildfires. There is only a volunteer fire department that consists of volunteers from surrounding communities in the county. There are two different entities that provide water to the town. The local water company supplies people who live inside the city limits, and the county supplies water to the people who live outside of the city limits. Cooper uses rivers, streams, creeks, and lakes for water usage. Cooper also receives water from a watershed, Sulphur Headwaters, located in the county. (Scoreboard.com 1999) The Sulphur and South Sulphur River and the Big Creek Lake, two of Cooper’s water reservoirs, did not meet all requirements for certifying the safety of the water. The county is required to test the water for over 97 containments and notify the community in writing with an annual report. The report lists tests for lead and copper, total organic carbon, cryptosporidium, and coliform. “As of 2006, Turbidity was found as a result of soil runoff. While it does not have any health effects, it can disrupt disinfection and provide a medium for microbial growth that can cause nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and headaches.” (Delta County MUD 2006) The community of Cooper may not have to worry themselves with smog in the air or stock up on bottle water, but they do need to be aware of potential effects from the air and water. Elderly, infants, cancer patients and others with immune problems are vulnerable to contaminants. By staying alert of the risks of water and air pollutants and how they are introduced into the atmosphere, will help to maintain a safe environment and decrease illnesses. more
