Your graduate

Figure out a strategy for paying off those credit cards and student loans. This doesn't necessarily mean YOU'RE the one to pay - - it just means you're helping to start tackling the issue. As you know, it only gets harder as you get older.

Third: If Junior is moving back home, get expectations straight. Will they be chipping-in for expenses, or doing chores in lieu of paying expenses? Get an exist strategy in-place, and re-adjust the rules for an adult child. Your returning child is a different person now, and you're going to have roll with that.

Finally: allow the kid to drive his or her own job search and emancipation. You can't take the lead here - - if you've established an exit time line, then it's up to Junior to execute the strategy - - that's part of growing up. more

Business travelers go green on the road.

Business travelers are increasingly making daily choices to reduce their environmental impact and they have specific expectations about the green practices hotels should be adopting today, according to a recent survey commissioned by Deloitte.

The survey shows business travelers have begun do some green practices routinely: nearly seven of 10 business travelers (69 percent) say they always turn off the lights and one out of three (31 percent) always adjusts the heat/air conditioner when leaving the room.

Roughly a third of travelers surveyed are keenly concerned about green travel. Some 34 percent "seek out hotels that are environmentally friendly," just as 38 percent have researched green lodging facilities either online or by asking friends and relatives.Similarly, 28 percent say they would be willing to pay 10 percent more to stay in a green lodging facility. more

Their hummus, tabbouleh, and other dishes taste like home

So, at the insistence of her colleagues, she got the idea to start making and marketing her recipes.

She was working at Formaggio Kitchen and brought the spreads to co-owner Ihsan Gurdal. He and the staff liked them a lot, as did Gurdal's wife, Valerie, so Samira started making them at Formaggio for the two stores. "It's an old recipe and it still tastes homemade," says Gurdal. "They'll eventually form a company and get a professional kitchen. I think that's the direction they'll probably go in. I hope it won't change when they become commercial. I don't think it will."

Samira's hummus comes four ways - with roasted red pepper, kalamata olive, jalapeno, and garlic. "I grew up making [hummus] with my mom and we always had it in the fridge," says Samira. At home, she added her own touches to the basic recipe, which pleased her family. more

Pound boosted by data

Meanwhile, the Confederation of British Industry said industrial activity continued to decline, but that the number of manufacturers intending to raise their prices jumped to a 13-year high in May.

The combination of today's data releases have further diminished the chances of a rate cut in June, supporting the pound.

"It currently seems highly unlikely that the Bank of England will be prepared to trim interest rates again until August at the very earliest; and, even for that to happen, the bank will want clear evidence that wage moderation is continuing and that muted economic activity is undermining companies' pricing power," said Howard Archer at Capital Economics.

The retail sales figures will be treated with some caution by both the BoE and market watchers, since the more closely-watched surveys suggest a sharp slowdown in consumer spending the pipeline. more

How Much Do Businesses Pay For Insurance Questions asked

Open Question: What would you do in this situation?

A good friend offered me a job where he is the general manager. The pay is only $10 hour but can include benefits IF you work full time. The business is seasonal so in summer the hours aren't as much. Anyway, its a place that is open 24/7 so my schedule is all over the place. I dont know my schedule till a couple days before the beginning of the new week, if I am lucky. I have two kids of my own and help parent 4 more of my boyfriends because he has full custody. My boyfriend has a business from his home and is mad that I took a job someplace else when he really needs the help. He is offering to pay me and says that the money will be very good. I am just worried that I will not get paid regularly, I see sometimes how he is trying to get money in (he works on a commission basis in the insurance industry) However, if I work for him I will have my nights and weekends and holidays back and know what my schedule is. I know I really need to sit down and clarify all of this with him, I feel awkward about it though. Working together and being together is not a problem, but how do you ask your boyfriend for money (even though you earned it) if he is having a tough time paying his own bills? It could be a sweet position for me-I have an administrative background and was laid off. If I work for him and help him settle claims the money can come in quicker and both of us get paid quicker! I also feel guilty for quitting on my friend but he did say he did not expect me to make a career of the position and if I would just help him through the busy time that would be great. Shortly afterward though he had 3 people quit so he is severely understaffed. Right now I am working full time for him and fitting in hours at my boyfriend's business around it. I know deep down I need to do what is best for me and forget what is best for my friend and my boyfriend. With the job with my friend I know I will get a regular paycheck although it wont be very big and the hours are not what I am used to, with my boyfriend I can make a lot more money but how often and have flexibility and regular hours. I am a hard worker and just want to be doing something I like-I have had jobs in the past that I loved and realize how important it is to enjoy your job. Any insight for me? more

Open Question: What is your membership cost at the Synergy Fitness Club on Staten Island?

Every business has to makes its own ends meet. There is payroll, rent, electric, insurance and the list goes on. At gyms for instance their main source of revenue is memberships. The problem I have with Synergy is their inconsistent cost of say monthly or yearly membership costs. If you ever saw Ocean's 13 where they are at the casino and everyone is winning like mad because the games are fixed and you see the different amounts on top of everyone's head, that is how I would describe Synergy members. Some are paying 29, 30 flat and some are in the mid to upper 30's. Remember each $1 is 12 more for them so someone paying in the $36 range is paying $72 more than the $30 guy or gal. The average seems to be $33.33 or $400 for the year. That seems to be their sweet spot. So if it is why not just post $400 for the year. Well they would say that people would want it lower etc. I understand that and I respect that too. The salespeople have to make a living and so on. Fine then start at $425 or $435 and if the person is just not comfortable with that go down to $400 and end the deal. Don't do like $100 down 33 a month. That is just a rip off and your getting a much higher membership than others that probably just signed up but haggled more. I can go on about this but I want to get to the point. I do not want to hurt this business in anyway but after my friend got taken by them I think others should know. This is a problem at this gym...I want more consistent membership fees..$400 is good and if you can get a group at $425 - $445 fine that is ok but lets not go crazy. I want myself and others not feel all uncomfortable or have the feeling of being taken to join or renew at this gym.. It is supposed to be a nice experience. Please post your membership costs whether its monthly or yearly and if you had any start up costs. Thank you more

Open Question: Customer service problem at a gym, maybe?

So i own a gym, has weights, a pool, and a basketball court. Structured as a private club. There are some state regulations that i HAVE to follow, and absolutely can't compromise on. There are some other rules set up, just from personal experience on what works and what doesn't...a few from my insurance company too. Anyways, the business is not in a bad area, not much crime, maybe 1 murder every 2 years (in the entire town), etc. Almost daily, i have people coming in demanding i do things their way, and its their right to use the place for free, and its not their problem about the laws.......and then they'll just start walking into the facility. I'm breaking about 10 laws when i let someone use the place without a membership....its not loop-holes, clearly stated i can do such and such if i'm membership only, but can't if i'm open to the public. And my costs skyrocket if i let it be open to the public, which gives me less incentive to let people in for free....and there already is none. It always starts out polite, but it eventually gets to the point where I'm screaming get out or i'm calling the police. I put a big sign on the door that has this all explained, a little more concise, apparently no one reads. Any suggestions on how to fix this, or is it just something i have to deal with. I'll put 2 examples below....don't have the time, can skip it, but i think it adds some clarity. Like today, my basketball court was rented, and a group of people came in, no membership yet, said they wanted to use the court, I told them they could use the rest of the facility until the rental was over. They were like ok, we'll think about it. Then they came back and said i lied to them, that there are people playing basketball on the court, for free. I explained that one person paid for the rental, and the rest are part of his rental, and that its a basketball court, thats what it gets rented for..and that those guys can't use the rest of the facility, just the court. So they demand i cancel the rental, and let them rent it....I told them i can't do that. Then they bolt up to the court, saying they are part of the rental. I usually don't tolerate this, but i follow them up. The rental told me, no they aren't. I told them to leave, but they can sign up and use the rest of the facility until the rental is over. One person starts cursing in front of little kids, saying its not right that someone can rent the court, then choose who gets to use it. I told them to watch their language, they said they don't have to listen to me, they are grown adults and can do whatever they want...they already know i'm the owner at this point. One person walks out the door and starts to tell me how they are coming back and going to kick.....i shut the door on the them, didn't hear the rest. Or this weekend, we had a birthday party, the parties are suppose to schedule clean up as part of their rental, but we usually give an extra 15 minutes...and they can wait in the lobby until the parents pick up all the kids.....after 15 minutes, the person working, kept calm, but started pressuring them to leave. 15 minutes later, the next birthday party arrived. The manager gets a call a few days later saying the person working the desk tried to get them to leave after their rental was over...and that isn't right. more

Resolved Question: Any Shooting Range Owners From Florida?

In the part of Florida that I live, there is only one range with four stalls. It is expensive as well as run down. People go there only because they have no other place to go within a 50 mile radius. I decided I want to open a range myself and have already obtained so much data that my head is spinning, yet I still have some questions I am having trouble getting answered. I have the Florida State Statutes, County Codes and Zoning, The NRA Range Sourcebook (in the mail), USAF ETL 08-11: Small Arms Range Design and Construction, the EPA CFRs for lead, and have a couple of properties I am looking at in my area that meet code and would be large enough to suffice the range. The range will be an outdoor range that has 50m (X5), 100 m (X5), 300 m(X3), and 1000 m (X2) lanes that will have use a dirt backstop accompanied by a cement block wall. The range will allow for ammunition from .22 cal to .50 cal. Other than delivery of dirt my brother, cousin, dad, and friend will assist me in the construction of the stalls, measuring the Surface Danger Zone/Vertical Danger Zone, backstops, and targets. My cousin and myself are going to Orlando to become Range Safety Officers for insurance purposes. As business takes off I will be adding a skeet shoot and a tactical/obstacle course with pop-up targets and CQB scenarios, but those are not in the making yet (not until I have an established business). The building where business will be conducted will need to have retail space for accessories, gear, ammo, and guns for sale/rent (I have an application for an FFL but until I have a location of business I cannot send it in). I will also need a 125ft X 125ft room for conducting NRA, CCW, and security courses as well as offer free hunting courses (All but the hunting courses will be taught by either myself or my cousin). A bathroom and breakroom are requirements for a security training facility in my state. I know what is needed by the county, state, EPA, and BATFE in regards to licensing and regulations for the range and firearms, what I am not sure of is the business aspect. I was hoping someone who owns a range in Florida could help answer the few questions that I have left. Q1: I know the average mark-up for firearms and accessories in the area, but how can I find the cost of the firearms and accessories (wholesale/dealers price) or of any price breaks for bulk orders? The distributors will not talk to me until I have my FFL and I cannot get my FFL without a place for business and I cannot get a place of business without a business loan from a bank. Due to the economy and my age, 24, I am going to have to go to the bank with a DETAILED business plan and explain how they will get there money back. Q2: How do you pay a business loan back? Do you pay monthly payments (i.e. mortgage/car payment) or do you pay in back in a lump some with in so many years? If so what is the time frame it is to be paid back in? Q3: Do you know of any good insurance companies to cover my business (in Florida) and if so how much does it cost? Again they will not talk to me until I have a business. Q4: How much do lead removal services cost? The EPA mandates that a company has to come and remove lead from my dirt back stops and I'm sure it is not free. If I have the equipment am I allowed to do it myself? Q5: If you own an outdoor range in Fl, do you mind telling me an estimated cost of construction supplies for your outdoor range? Q6: I am looking a buying a large piece of land and I'm probably not going to find one with a building on it that suits my needs. Any ideas/suggestions on new construction vs. other options I am unaware of such as portable buildings (if they have them) Q7: What are the state and federal taxes (estimate of course) for running such a business in FL? Please, refrain from JUST telling me that this is an expensive business and that it will fail. I now that it will be expensive and that is why I need a DETAILED business plan for the bank. I am hoping for help with the few financial questions left to determine the over all cost and revenue I will need to acquire. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I appreciate and look forward to any responses. more

Resolved Question: How much do you pay for health insurance?

I just read in the Tribune that health insurance rates are going up again, they say 60% rise http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-biz-individual-health-insurance-premiums-mar04,0,223417.story. Don't know how much you pay, but I'm around $400 a month, while my employer picks up about $600. So $12,000 a year, and I have been to the doctor twice in the last 4 years for physicals. Something has to be done, it is getting ridiculous. No dependents more

Resolved Question: How will financing be for me?

Opening a tanning salon(something neat and sophisticated looking.) has been in my plans since I was about 14. All during high school I was home schooled and I worked for my dad cleaning newly constructed houses/businesses before they were put on the market for sale or lease. That is until things went under and he had to file for bankruptcy on all of the residential and commercial real estate that he developed. The I went to Costco for 2 years. From the 4 or so years I worked during school, I hoarded nearly every penny I made so I could fulfill my dream as an entrepreneur when I graduated from high school. Right after graduating from the Fulton County Public School System, I was set and went out looking for SOMETHING else to do to start my career in a self-owned business. Everything exceeded what my budget was set on until my dads good friends' dad was retiring and selling his repo company. So, I knew then at that time that was my opportunity. Luckily he allowed me to finance everything since he owned the stuff and he also let me walk in his lot that he's now leasing to me. So I've been in the repossession/recovery business for over a year now and with the economy HOPEFULLY shaping up, I've really been thinking about getting rid of my trucks & selling everything(of course after I have another main source of income coming in). The main reason is because I fear in about 2-3 years from now, this economy will have improved greatly and there won't be as much recovery work to cover all of my expenses associated with my company. ---OK so now my story about my young life is over, I'll get to my main concern- Although I'm only 19 now, I've had credit since I was 15(I lied about my DOB on credit card apps which has now been corrected with all 3 credit bureaus). Every since then I ALWAYS did right and kept my credit immaculate as it still is. My Transunion FICO through MyFico is at 738 and is slowly rising as my accounts grow older and as my personal vehicle is on its way to being fully paid off. I do have credit cards, but have $0 in credit card debt. Since Mar. 8th 2009 to Dec. 31st 2009, my company has grossed approx. $480K. That number may be fairly large, but considering I have 3 other drivers/employees I pay commission to, repo insurance(nearly $13K for not even the full year), rent on my ex-car lot(just over $20K for not even the full year), tax, all utilities, and after going ahead and paying my "agent" off for financing the PC's, software, trucks etc., that number was lowered significantly. Fortunately, 2010 so far is just as busy as it has been for the past 10 months and I'm even having to send repo orders back to finance companies from not having enough time to do them all(I'm not buying another truck). Like I said, I'm really thinking about going into the tanning business and it's a decision I'll have to make between now and the next 2-3 years. Would someone like me at my age(I will be 21-22yo then) have a hard time being approved for a $300K+ loan with the following factors: Company grossed $480K.(Honestly I want to leave this out of the app.) I netted about $110K during the last 3 quarters of '09.(before all of my personal bills/expenses.) I have roughly $80K in assets(2 recovery trucks, a money market account, and other misc. things). I have 3 checking accounts(2 personal, 1 business) I have 2 savings accounts. I have tax forms that have been filed and I also have bank and broker statements to prove my income. I have above average+ personal credit but no business credit.(no debt besides personal vehicle which will be paid off in 2 years or sooner) I have the knowledge, skill and common sense to know how to properly run a business. I can produce a legitimate business proposal. Hopefully within the next 2 or so years all of my assets and everything else will have grown.(if it doesn't there's a problem. lol) I know this is a lot of info, but my life ahead is really sticking to my nerves and I need support. I saw how my dad went from one minute having a lot of real estate to the next minute having to dig into his retirement money, and I want to avoid this by all means possible. I could be making a mistake by wanting to stop repossessing vehicles but as I said, I feel when this economy shapes up I won't even be grossing enough to cover everything and I don't want to lose my ***. The big question, how will banks view my status when attempting to obtain a commercial loan for roughly $300K? Would it be best if I go through the SBA? Could I get the loan w/o having to include my total grossed income? I'm literally fretting over these things. Thank all of you guys for your support. more

Resolved Question: Why were Rep. Paul Ryan's pointed questions conspicuously unanswered at the big health care summit?

• "This bill does not control costs (or) reduce deficits. Instead, (it) adds a new health care entitlement when we have no idea how to pay for the entitlements we already have." • "The bill has 10 years of tax increases, about half a trillion dollars, with 10 years of Medicare cuts, about half a trillion dollars, to pay for six years of spending. The true 10-year cost (is) $2.3 trillion." • "The bill takes $52 billion in higher Social Security tax revenues and counts them as offsets. But that's really reserved for Social Security. So either we're double-counting them or we don't intend on paying those Social Security benefits." • "The bill takes $72 billion from the CLASS Act (long-term care insurance) benefit premiums and claims them as offsets." • "The bill treats Medicare like a piggy bank, (raiding) half a trillion dollars not to shore up Medicare solvency, but to spend on this new government program." • "The chief actuary of Medicare (says) as much as 20% of Medicare providers will either go out of business or have to stop seeing Medicare beneficiaries." • "Millions of seniors who have chosen Medicare Advantage (Medicare through a private insurer) will lose the coverage that they now enjoy." more

Resolved Question: How much do you think it would cost to open up a gym?

What do you think about opening up a gym? What would it take to be the owner of my own gym? One day I would like to open up one but do you think I could just be owner and not a trainer? How much do you think it would cost to start up everything? I know there is rent and power and insurance but what about all the equipment and stuff? I do not have a degree in anything (I am a certified presonal trainer though) but I feel I could run my own business and I am also thinking of taking just a one year business class to get a feel for it. How many Trainers does a normal gym have? do they have 3? 5? 10? I know it probably depends on the size. How do they usually pay their employees? say I charge $70 a session...should I give them 50 and me keep 20 or is that to much? Would you do their taxes or give them a 1099? Please only answer this if you know what you are talking about... I could really use some suggestions Thanks more

Voting Question: How do I start benefits in a budding business?

A friend of mine is trying to launch a company, and I'm strongly thinking about working with her. However, getting benefits going is beyond her grasp at the moment. So I'm going to look into it for her. My questions are: 1) How do I get benefits set up as part of the (extremely) small, broke, and new company's coverage? 2) Will it come out of her budget, or is there a process that allows businesses to offer it that doesn't come out of her' pocket? 3) If it's an added expense (which I wouldn't ask of her before her business has a solid foundation), can I pay for health insurance myself? And how much would it cost? Under comparison, what's the best plan? 4) What would you do? Thank you! more

Voting Question: How do I escape the small town depression?

So I live in a small town (population about 5000). Everbody knows everboy else's business and all people seem to talk aout is 'did you hear avout him/her' and take great delight in their misfortune. The town is plagued by drink/drugs, violence and chavs/neds. I know for a fact that a lot of the youngsters carry knives/weapons although there hasnt been a serious incident so far. The main thing thats getting t me is I have been pretty much living quiet since a few incidents happened to me and my family. The first thing was on a Friday night. My brother (19) had been out at his g/fs and I stayed in. About 2am, i was in my bed. I was asleep but was awoken by somebody running up the stairs. My door flew open and my brother it was my brother. His face was absolutely covered in blood and e was shaking and screaming at me to help him. Turned out there were a bunch of lads who battered him coz they fancied his girl! I knew these lads (a couple years younger than me) and went out to speak to them. They eventually left. Saw them a few days later and they apologised and blamed it on the drink. My brother accepted the apology and no more was thought of it. A few weeks later I had a party in my house (well my mothers house) as my mate had just got engaged. Quite a lot was drunk and me and a couple of others went to the shop up the road (quuite drunk). On the way back we met a couple of the lads from the last incident. They ended up coming back to the party and everyone was getting on fine having a good laugh. A few of them decided to go out to the pub but I stayed in. They had left the house about 2 mins when my brother came in with his face covered in blood and shanking with fright. I ran out to see 2 of the lads from before. I asked them what was ging on to which I got the reply 'your brothers a pussy!' I lost it and ran at them. At this point, one of them swung for me, missed and they ran off. I went back to the house and my brother was there with a few of his mates. Then I heard shouting out the back. I opened the back door and these 2 lads were screming abuse and punching/kicking the neighours fence. I went to run out but one of them ran at me with a brick so I slammed the door. But the lad kicked it and it flew open. The wood down he side had snapped. Eventually the police came and arrested them. The worst though was a couple months later. I was home alone and one of my mates came round. We were sitting have a quiet beer, watching a film when somebody knocked on the door. I went to answer it but nobody was there. I looked up the street and saw somebody standing looking towards the house. Thought it was kids messing about. Anyway, I went upstairs to the toilet and heard somebody come in the garden. I went to look out the window when suddenly I heard a very loud smash, followed 2 secs later by another one and then heard people running. My bedroom window and also the kitchen window had been smashed. My mate ran u the stairs and we phoned the police as we didnt know if there was anyone outside or not. The police were absolutely useless and turned up 3 1/12 hours later. The only good thing was my 60 yer old mother was out. When she came home she just burst into tears. The useless police still havent found who smashed the windows even though we know for a fact who it was, and my mum had to claim on the insurance and pay £150 excess to get them fixed. God thats a long rant! But my question is, how do I escape this place. I dont wanna be stuck here for the rest of my life doing nothing, waiting to die. It sucks.Thanx DM but we dont drink much at all. The first incident i was in bed and my bro wasn't drinking. Second, it was an engagment party. Of course people were drinking. third, I had 2 beers watching a film. And I can honestly say i havent had only had any alcohol twice in the last 14 months! God i wish people wouldnt jump to conclusions on here....Thanx DM but we dont drink much at all. The first incident i was in bed and my bro wasn't drinking. Second, it was an engagment party. Voting Question: What should I do about my Toshiba laptop?

I got it on Black Friday last year. On Jan 13 2010 the keyboard quit working and I took it back to Best Buy. They sent it off and to have it fixed but they'd have to replace the motherboard and the keyboard. It would cost over 500 dollars. And thats how much I paid for the laptop. Best Buy tried to blame it on water damage, but NO ONE was even around the computer except for me and I know I didn't spill any water on it. I didn't buy the insurance, but it STILL under warranty and they still won't replace it. I'm gonna turn it over to the Better Business Bureau when I pick it up this week. Idk if that will help so is it worth the 500 bucks to replace it? I'd be spending 1000 bucks on that laptop and its not even 6 months old. Should I just buy another laptop or what? more

Resolved Question: So how does a McDonalds or a Lawn Mower Shop or similar small business offer health care to its employees?

Think about it before you answer... read my ideas and tell me yours.... Think about all the individuals who are struggling now days .The single mothers who are now raising kids alone and working hard long hours to make 1800 to 2200 dollars before taxes... how do they pay the average for good health insurance... 900 to 1400 per month for a family of 4... If your a Republican and against single payer then figure it out... how does America compete against societies around the planet that have insurance for every man woman and child and still be competitive. Tort reform isn't going to get it... thats 54 Billion over TEN YEARS. Divide 54 Billion by the population of the US 303,824,640 (2008 census) = $177.73 divided by 12 months = $14.41 per person. I keep looking for real Republican ideas that are going to make a real dent and seem to hear more about protecting company profits than real reform. Take Competitiveness across state lines. Competitiveness across State lines takes place in many states now and the costs in those states is still high so expanding markets in states where it is limited is not going to bring down the costs... that's just a ploy by companies for more access to make more money... Isn't it absurd that these companies are making 34 % profit on our pain. Take the case of my grand son... He slips on the tile floor and 7 stitches and 1 X-ray later they owe $3800.00. imagine you have no insurance. The arguments against single payer are illogical for those that have no insurance at all because the care doesn't change... it is still 7 stitches and an X-ray, it's just how it is paid for. So tell me how the Republican plan is going to benefit the small business owner and those without insurance or are struggling to pay the premiums. I really want to hear your ideas and I'm all for incorporating them into the debate... but divide it up by the population and take a look at how much of an effedt it will have. more

Hello Don. I am very interested in it. The only thing is that I will not have th money for it until February 15th; you know taxes. I only hope that this is not a scam. My question is, how will we do the trading? If you could get back to me with, like you said, more pics, VIN, and I would like to know the mileage on the car. And is it a straight drive or an automatic. Please reply as soon as possible. Voting Question: What advice can you give on rescinding a life insurance policy?

So here's my situation: A friend of mine referred me to this insurance company called World Financial Group. So I went and the agent there told me a bit about the company, and I thought I liked it, so I decided to agree to join the company as well as become one of their clients. I also wanted a job where I would be able to work with my friend. Later, being more informed about the company, I learned that my friend had recruited me, by referring me, so I was technically his client and I also work under him. So what I regret doing was putting $2400 up front for a policy called the Indexed Universal Life policy. Basically, it's a whole life insurance policy but it also has a cash value, which grows in interest and helps pay for the cost of insurance. What I liked about it was it seemed like an appealing way to invest my money in, since I have some spare money sitting around in the Chase bank, with a meager .05% interest rate. Now I'm hearing that it's illegal to sell IUL as an investment plan. There are a lot that I don't know about this policy, though the agent did a lot of talking. I probably know more about how to sell the policy than I do on how the policy works. I was told that in order to work in this company, I needed to purchase an IUL policy, otherwise, my clients wouldn't trust me. Isn't that illegal business practice? To force an employee to buy something you sell in order to work for the company? So this IUL policy I have, I believe covers me 500k if I pass away. The premium is $150 a month. I don't remember what percentage of the premium goes into the cost of insurance, and what percentage goes into the cash value. The thing is I don't need such a huge policy because 1) I already have a 400k SGLI policy, which costs $27/mo, because I'm in the Army Reserves, 2) After the $2400 runs out, which will probably happen pretty soon, I still expect to be in College, which means I won't have a job and a stable income to continue paying the premiums. At first, I thought I would stay in this company, and make pretty good income, and use that income to pay for IUL. However, a lot of heavy recruiting goes into working here. There's no required quota, where you have to recruit so many people otherwise you're fired. There is, however, a quota for advancement. I have to recruit 3 new employees and find 3 clients in order to be promoted. I'm not the one who does the recruiting either, I'm supposed to bring friends, family members, acquaintances - anybody I knew - and have the Marketing Director do all the talking. Me, I just sit back and watch how an experienced agent does it, because that's how I will be expected to do it as well. Being so uncomfortable about what's required of me, the fact that I would have to get my friends, family, classmates from several years back, pretty much anyone I knew into this business that I hardly know a thing about, I simply stopped coming to their meetings. I don't want to be making money off of the people I just listed, and if I did, I'd rather it be a good service that I can feel I've actually helped someone. I have a feeling that this company targets less educated people. This companies promises to "educate people on how money works," and that it "focuses more on concepts rather than products." So far, I found it all to be quite hypocritical, because it seems to take advantage of people who don't know very much about finances, and get them to buy actual products, e.g. IUL. So long story short, I want my money back. I'm not sure if that option is still available because it was Dec 15ish of '09 that I signed all those contracts and had my $2400 withdrawn from my savings. I'm not sure if I'll be able to cancel the policy AND get my money back because of surrender charges. I also feel very uncomfortable talking to my agent about this because to be honest, I don't trust him. I think he's just going to keep pushing for me to keep this policy and get me to start recruiting people again. Even he says he's very biased when it comes to giving his opinion on the financial world simply because the company he works for, WFG, sorta brainwashes you and indoctrinates you with a certain belief system. For example, term life insurance is bad because you don't get anything out of it once the term is over and you don't die. That's why I am asking for advice here. I want someone whose income does not depend on me sticking with a policy to give me advice, preferably someone who knows about this stuff, a life agent perhaps, or a client who knows what IUL is. If worse comes to worse, I might have to rescind the policy, saying that I wasn't well informed when I decided to go ahead with it, and that the main reasons why I bought IUL was because I thought it was good to invest my money in and because I was required to get it because I wanted to work for this company - both of which are probably illegal business practices, correct? So if you know about fi more

Resolved Question: how do i know if this is a good job?

I've been looking for a new job for months now because my current job doesn't pay well in the least. It's to the point where it's not even worth my gas money to get there. So my boyfriend's uncle offers me a job, but it's not a "normal" job. He owns a t-shirt business and sells them to local schools and other companies. He is very well known around Alabama, and he asked if I would be willing to be a salesman of sorts by selling ads to sponsors for his shirts. He said that expenses will be taken care of such as gas, and that I could make $150-$300 DAILY if I meet my quota. That's a huge amount for me, considering I'd be thrilled with anything that pays 8 bucks an hour. He even said we could discuss insurance benefits, and that if I travel to south Alabama to sell ads he would pay for a hotel room for me, etc. I would probably work about 4 days a week, which is awesome...and considering its not an "official" job, I would pretty much schedule myself. It just sounds way too good to be true. Anybody have experience with small companies or businesses that sell ads to local sponsors? more

Resolved Question: why do people want obama care to pass?

"If health care is left up to private corporations, they're going to do whatever gets them more money, not whatever is best for the peoples' health." As opposed to the government doing the same? News flash: the government is concerned with their interests and their interests alone. They are not, have never been, and never will be, concerned with you and me. "What's stopping the insurance companies from denying lifesaving treatments just because it doesn't benefit them financially?" The market. This is where the benefits of a free-market system jump into play. An insurance company that earns the reputation of being too concerned with themselves over providing good care for its customers will lose business: it's that simple. People don't want to buy insurance that doesn't help them, and other companies (at least the successful ones) will leap at the opportunity to take advantage of the misdeeds by others. This is how the free market woks. Perhaps if we had a true free-market health care system in this country, instead of one already filled with too much red tape, you'd see this to be the case. "This has happened countless times already." Which is the fault of the government and their regulations, not the insurance companies themselves. "And yes, you are right-wing extremists compared to the rest of the civilized world which already has universal health care." So? Why should the rest of the world's ideology dictate how we run our country? If we're going to fix health care, then lets actually fix it. A health care fix means bringing down the costs so more people can afford it. This includes TORT reform, a measure to eliminate frivolous lawsuits against doctors. A visit to the doctor should cost that visit; not that visit along with the doctor's insurance against the stupidest lawsuits you can imagine. If we were to get rid of such absurd suits, and limit suits to cases of real malpractice, the cost of insurance would decrease significantly. A health care fix also includes increasing the competition. This includes implementing John McCain's plan to allow people to buy health insurance across state lines. More competition in the marketplace will force insurance companies to offer better deals in order to win customer's business, which translates to lower costs for everyone. A health care fix does not include allowing illegals to buy government insurance. It does not include a government option; let alone an option that the lawmakers do not see fit for themselves. It does not include a mandate for everyone to have insurance. Those who want insurance will find a way to have some. We should not be paying for those who choose to risk their own health. It does not include reducing medicaid for seniors, let alone passing such a measure separately as to avoid adding cost to the CBO estimate. And an insurance fix absolutely does not include cushy deals for those senators who claim their votes are at stake. All of these are currently included in either the house bill, the senate bill, or both. If this country's serious about fixing health care, why aren't actual fixes included? Why is this just another big government, big spending option that's a a gift for select politicians? Resolved Question: Can I claim points paid by the seller at closing on my taxes?

I want to confirm the details before I go searching down anymore rabbit holes... I purchased my first home in August. I have looked at the rather confusing IRS flow chart to determine whether or not the 2% in points paid by the seller can be claimed by me, the buyer, on my taxes, and I'm still not sure if I meet criteria, although I think I am... and I'll be honest, I'm not exactly sure what most of the criteria actually means, but I took my best guess. If anyone can translate the IRS statements below in plain English, I'd be most grateful. First, details: * $209K = purchase price * 6% = total amount contributed to closing by seller * 4% = amount applied to closing costs and insurance, 2% = amount applied to points. I worked the deal so that I didn't have to pay a nickel out of pocket for the home and used my VA loan, so the seller practically paid me to take their short sale. The VA stipulates that the seller cannot contribute more than 4% to closing, but can contribute to points above 4% as long as it is not "excessive," thus, I was able to apply the entire 6% to all points and closing costs. [From http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc504.html] 1. Your loan is secured by your main home (your main home is the one you live in most of the time). (YES, IT IS.) 2. Paying points is an established business practice in your area. (ANY REASON IT WOULDN'T BE? HOW WOULD I DETERMINE THIS ANYWAY?) 3. The points paid were not more than the amount generally charged in that area. (I WOULDN'T THINK 2% IS A LOT FOR TAMPA) 4. You use the cash method of accounting. This means you report income in the year you receive it and deduct expenses in the year you pay them. (I'M AN REGULAR TAXPAYER... 2009 IS MY FIRST YEAR NOT USING A 1040EZ!!) 5. The points were not paid for items that usually are separately stated on the settlement sheet such as appraisal fees, inspection fees, title fees, attorney fees, or property taxes. (ALL POINTS WENT TO INTEREST) 6. The funds you provided at or before closing, plus any points the seller paid, were at least as much as the points charged. You cannot have borrowed the funds from your lender or mortgage broker in order to pay the points. (DOES THIS MEAN NO EXTRA MONEY WAS BORROWED TO PAY POINTS TO REDUCE INTEREST? I ONLY USED WHAT WAS PROVIDED BY THE SELLER AT CLOSING) 7. You use your loan to buy or build your main home. (I ONLY HAVE ONE HOME - FIRST TIME BUYER) 8. The points were computed as a percentage of the principal amount of the mortgage, and (YES) 9. The amount is clearly shown as points on your settlement statement. (JUST RECEIVED MY STATEMENT, AND THE AMOUNT FOR 2% IS INDICATED) There is one additional statement that confuses me... "Points paid by the seller may be deducted by the buyer provided the buyer subtracts the amount from the basis, or cost, of the residence." Does this mean I reduce my purchase price by ~$4000? Will this affect my first-time home buyer credit? Due to my income, I don't qualify for the entire credit, but if I must deduct the interest from my purchase price then will this affect the proportional amount I'm eligible for? Lots of questions, but its all relevant. I do plan on having a tax professional prepare my taxes this year, but I would like to be moderately prepared in advance before leaving it in the hands of a complete stranger! Thank you in advance for any and all assistance. more

Resolved Question: Boyfriend won't work, need advice!?

I have been pulling most of the weight around the house. I make about 3,200 a month after taxes and he makes about 300.00 a or so month doing photography gigs here and there. I pay the electricity, the cable and internet, my car, insurance, furniture bills, cell phones, etc ,etc. Sometimes we struggle mostly because he doesn't make enough money. I worked so hard in school to get my degree to be able to have a decent life. We moved into this huge apartment which he promised to help pay and still no luck. His business in photography due to the economy has been struggling but I told him to get a whatever job meanwhile to bring in consistent amounts of money. He refuses and say he makes more money this way and that he's not going to lower himself. We almost broke up over this but I decided to give it another chance. We even talked about marriage, but now we are hitting financial problems again and he will not get a job. I try to tell him to and he say I'm a gold digger and that I should have more faith. Also that it worries him how money directs my mood. I tell him we owe so much and he says don't worry. He tries to push the business instead of getting a real job. He's here all day doing god knows what while I get up everyday at 6 am to get to work!!!! Am I wrong for telling him to get a job? Also I started thinknig that I'm not gonig ot marry him since I would be paying for al lthe wedding. I do care about him, but it bothers me that he won't help out. I don't wanna be with somebody who would let me struggle when he can easily get a job. more

Resolved Question: son's name changed to mine?

my boyfriend of 6 1/2 years and the father of my almost 4 yr old is going to fight me on changing my son's last name from his to mine! He does not have that much $$, i do so i can hire a good lawyer if i have too but i do not think he will take it that far since we live together. I live with my dad and daughter, as well. My dad is on my side on this topic. My daughter has my last name, she is almost 12 and wants her brother to have her last name, as well. Me and my daughter's dad are the best of friends still! Anyways, When i got prego with my son, i was against having him from the get go as i did not want another child outta wedlock, i had never been married and wanted too...he promised me up and down we would get married before my son was born, and that he would get divorced i believed him....My mother died very suddenly at age 64 yrs of age five days before my son was born, that was also my mother's wish..i was not in the right state of mind when i signed the birth certificate with my son having his dad's last name, i was devasted from the loss of my mother, we were sooooo close! My daughter's paternal grandparents in boston, have taken my son as their "own grandchild" as my boyfriends mom and dad can't stand him as he is a pathological liar. He is still married, but separated for now 7 years to a woman in australia. we live in florida. I also, found out he owes back taxes to the IRS to the tune of at least $20,000 so there is no way i would marry him. He owns his own business(mobile) and still does not charge his customers tax or pay taxes back to this day. He does not pay car insurance! My son has never been in his car due to him always having a suspended license even though, he still continues to drive. He also, is due to go to jail due to being caught yet again, a 3rd time..he will be going to jail in about 2 months for driving under a suspended license and possibly DUI but they are trying to get the DUI thrown out. My dad pays all the bills here. before my dad moved in in may 2009... they bills were constantly late/shut off, i buy 80% of my son's needs..he pays the rent but he is always, at least 15 to 20 days late. I am filing with the court tuesday for a change of name and my boyfriend knows this but does not want to hear about it. My son deserves my last name, i take care of him 7 days a week with hardly any help from his dad. His dad has never seen his pediatrician or his speech therapists..please say i have a chance of getting my son's name changed? will i have to see a judge? how long does this take? thanks for any and all helpby the way, i am 37 yrs oldmy son still does not know his last name and the speech therapy people have said, now is the time to do it if i am going too more

Resolved Question: I was sold a share of a business, that the person had not paid for. What can I do to recover money?

I was sold a share of a car valeting business by a friend, who I had not known for long and it turned out the business had not been paid for. He was buying it as a going concern from a man who was selling it due to ill health. But he never paid this person for it before he died and he continued to operate the business. He put it in his wife's name, due to bankruptcy and he never paid his staff's tax and national insurance, although he took it from their wages. Is there anything I can do to recover the money on behalf of my mum, who had paid for it on my behalf. She has a soliciters letter to prove what she buying and for how much. She can also prove through bank statements that he was paid by cheque, which was possibly paid in through someone else's bank account, again due to his bankruptcy. Helpfull answers only please.he asked for the cheque to be left blank and said he might pay it in through his wifes account, due to setting up a new account, which was obviously to avoid paying his creditors. more

Resolved Question: What's the latest going-on in public health care, in USA? I heard democrats were rewriting the agreement. True?

Are they writing it again, or is it just a rumour? (I read this from a republican newspaper, so it could be a ruse) Do americans have guaranteed insurance now? What is it going to cover? (re, eg: long term illnesses and hospital stays, abortion, cancer treatments, elective surgeries like cataract replacements, elective surgeries like plastic surgery for the severely deformed and burn victims, medications...? What was the final verdict on these things?) Did they decide how payments would be made, or how much citizens will pay, or when, or who would be qualified to have the insurance, or what those who can't afford the insurance would do for health care? What did they decide about businesses providing health care, and what did they decide about privet health care?JDZ: You said it! Agreed. more

I work for the same company since 1973. I started out doing work on the furnace in teh factory section and then i got moved up to a desk job where i count out the hours people work and note down how many days their absent but the company is doing bad, recesion hit us hard lots of layoffs this past week and i am worried. i am 59 and i get my health insurance from my job but if the company goes under someone said their is no cobra insurance and the private companies won't insure me because i messed up myslef in an accident a little bit six years ago and the three companies i called quoted me between 1300 dollars and 1700 dollars per month but with take home pay being about 1600 per month thats alot of money. what should i do. i pay the lot rent on my trailer but i paid off the trailer two years ago, i pay child support for three kids, i don't smoke and i don't gamble and i don't drink very much and i don't use drugs, i have one truck, a 1989 truck i use to get back and fourth from work, got no credit card bills cause i don't beleive in them, got nothing fancy in my house but i am worryed. i don't want to be homeless, my parents arent alive no more, and my ex wife don't want me in her house cause shes got a husband now, my kids are too young and jobs aren't big with benefits in this town. i got to buy groceries and wash my clothes and pay child support and pay rent but i might be stuck. i never thought i would be in this situation until i got the bad news last week. what should i do. i don't want to go on state aid as i probably won't get it and i don't beleive in socialism which state aid is i just want to buy me some health insurance that don't cost more than groceries and rent, i will pay the health insurance but even with savings, 1500 dollars is alot of money and i make just that amount. more

Resolved Question: Is there something I can do about my boss?

So my boss/ owner of the company being a complete drunk and constantly using company funds for personal use (1 grand monthly bar tab, his cars, his insurance), is sending our company into its inevitable demise. I've worked here for 5 years, haven't gotten a raise in 3 years, worked nights and weekends to move the company from one state to another, learned a new business system that usually takes weeks of training in just a few days, taught everyone else how to use it in a few days, was the sole reason we had back to back record sales months in 2008 for 5 straight months, and much much more. No lies. So I get up enough balls to ask for a raise (since I thought I deserved it, business is up, and the funds are there... for now), to which he turned down immediately. Then I had the great idea of emailing him this morning and said "Hey, instead of a raise, do you think I could have an extra week of vacation?" Decent compromise, in my opinion. His reply? "Yeah, without pay." I know it is essentially his company, and he can do whatever he wants with it. There's gotta be something I can do, aside from the obvious get a new job. Trust me, I'm trying.Rebecca, thanks for the reply. Reporting his ass almost seems worth it to be quite honest. I could care less about the majority of the employees (2 worthless outside salesmen, 1 person who doesn't even need to be to work until 9AM and STILL can't get here on time. The other 2 people I like). more

Resolved Question: Trying to find a first job. Hard in my area.?

I recently got a car, thankfully it is paid off and gets decent mileage, but insurance is costly (around 120 or so a month). My parents are currently paying for it, and, I expect, want me to help out, and I do want to help out, as well as have some extra spending money on the side. Since the day I turned 16 I have applied to numerous different businesses in my area, with no avail. Big chains, and small businesses. I've applied to them all. I do have three questions though 1. I do make above average grades (around a 3.6) and wish to keep them around this area, as do my parents. I'm fine with have a lot to do with a little time to do it, but I am unsure, since this would be my first "real" job, how much it would affect my school work. 2. Since I have found it difficult to find a job in my area, could I maybe get some suggestions on how to obtain this job? I know the basics, as they aren't that difficult to comprehend, but if I could get some tips from some older people who have more experience than me, I would greatly appreciate it. 3. Are there any, free, websites that have job listings on them for jobs suitable for first-time job seeker? If I could get a site, it would go along way in helping me further. Also, I have completed courses in Spanish (up to Spanish 2), as well as CAD (Computer Aided Drafting), up to level 2, would these be thing I would like to put on my resume, if for nothing but fillers to make it look less empty? more

Resolved Question: how close can i live to the beach without having to pay high insurance?

I have always thought about moving close to the beach sometime within my life. I dont have to worry about college money anymore b/c the National Guard gave me a $72,000 scholarship to any supporting college nationwide. what isnt used out of that is mine to keep and i will also be getting about 7 to 8 thousand in a few months then another 7 to 8 thousand in 3 years. I also work with my dad who is a general foreman for a company contracted with Duke Power on the east coast making $10 an hour and getting paid weekly $300 until this summer when i go to my AIT training where I will accumulate another estimate of about 3,4,maybe 5 thousand more. so I will already have PLENTY of money to use at only 20 years old. I hope to get a good paying job in the technical field..perhaps avionics b/c im an apache attack helicopter mechanic in the SCArmy National Guard (awaiting AIT this june). so my question is how far can that much get me? I DO NOT WANT A BEACH FRONT HOME!!!!!! I just want something maybe a mile or so away...far enough to where i dont have to pay insanely ridiculous prices for homeowners insurance, property taxes/insurance, and all that. I have been trying to cunduct research of different areas of florida and south carolina but have had no luck as i really dont understand how the reality business works. that will hurt me tons!!! so i come and humbly ask for advice....and whatever you do.....................PLZ DONT CRITICIZE ME FOR BRAGGING ABOUT MY MONEY OR GET PISSED OFF!! Voting Question: Family of 3 Survival?

I have currently just finished my first trimester of being pregnant. I am a lead cook for Aramark, but the business with which we serve out of is closing down in February. I have been offered to transfer to a further location, but will not be able to do this because the new location is too far away and nearly all my pay would go towards paying gas. So, come February, I will be quitting. This is good in a way because I would like to stay home with the baby when he is born this June. But here's another problem: my husband has a fairly good job and his pay is just too much to get any assistance. So you name it, be it food stamps or leap or whatever, he makes just within $50 to $100 too much. In addition, I can't apply for unemployment because if you refuse a transfer or quit, you can't get unemployment. My husband and I have a mortgage of $1,000/month and a car payment of $600/month. He makes roughly 27,000. I have recently started "playing" the Grocery Game online to see if that helps us save on money. I have no problem getting another job now, but with the economy as it is especially where we live I have concern that I won't be able to find another job. In addition, if I quit again when baby is born, and stay unemployed, will we a family of 3 with a newborn survive? Give me your best money-saving tips. PS, once I'm on my husband's insurance that will add $350 a month we must pay, and when baby is born, we will be paying around $500 a months for insurance. How do we survive? more

Resolved Question: What steps do I need to take to get my small business(idea) off of the ground?

I'm a student, but in the near future...to help me pay for college. I plan to have a small office cleaning business. A small investment and a couple hours of work in the evening will help me with my tuition. What steps do I take and in what order? For example, what legal aspects need to be covered? So far I've been told to ??register my business?? and obtain insurance. Could someone breakdown how to register my business...(with who? on a state/county level?) and what type of insurance is required? I also have an idea for a name...and I think it's catchy and will 'grab attention'. I see no one else with it...and I want to make a claim for the name myself. I don't plan on beginning my biz anytime in the near future, but I want to ensure that I can 'hold' this company name. Can I go ahead and do that? If so, HOW?...and how much, and through who? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Chiropractor suing me for unpaid office balance from 12/2004 in California..?

Isn't the statute of limitations in California 4 years for open accounts and written contracts? Wouldn't this case just be thrown out of small claims court due to statute of limitations of 4 years in California? Through a county records search I have also found this chiropractor to have filed over 60 small claims suits in the last 10 years, is that a common occurrence for chiropractors? This only makes me think of how many other people he has harassed unjustly that have just settled with him over the years without taking it to the courts. Why does a chiropractor allow for office balances to accrue and not just bill patient either monthly or as a cash patient for each visit? Wouldn't the best business practice be just to make patients pay for each visit? Suing them for the balance when they were intentionally left in the dark about their situation with regards to if either the insurance company would be responsible or the patient? In my case, and I am sure most of the other cases this chiropractor has been involved in had to do with a 3rd party insurance company. I was being treated for injuries from a car accident in which I was a passenger. I was informed that the insurance would cover my visits and also was never informed when my insurance coverage had been used up, which would then lead to the disputed office balance. It seems as if this chiropractor has a made a habit of taking insurance claim patients, using up their allotted insurance monies, intentionally misrepresenting to the patients that the coverage has not run out, then 3-4 months after your last visit he sends a bill for the previous visits not covered by the insurance claim, followed by a filing in small claims court. In my case he sent me a bill 3-4 months after my last visit for visits which began 10 months prior. Never once did he send me a bill after any visit to his office, his tactics are deceptive and unethical. It is clear to me that I am solely responsible for knowing how much the chiropractor was charging and how much of the insurance claim monies was still available but what he did, does, and continues to do is unethical and a waste of taxpayer money. Any thoughts and experience in this field would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: What are your thoughts on the Insurance from the Health Care Bill?

First. I have seen people make the arguments between vehicle and health care insurance mandatory debates and how some may or may not be rediculous. I see health insurance should be mandatory for everyone to buy and not be declined cause that is making some people be ADULTS. Yes, I agree the prices are too high and need to come down and that not everyone could afford it and some are denied it cause of health issues. I also see people go to the ER and complain when they get a medical bill cause they refuse to purchase the health insurance that they could have. Hospitals are a business whether you like it or not. The Hospital needs an income to pay the salary of the people that take care of the patients(YOU). If they are not on a salary then they need to be put on a government salary and retirement plan. The prices of medical costs have gone up cause of people skipping town on their medical bills!!!!!! Why else do you think they charge so much?? It is also for the legal insurance with the law suit happiness of people in our society. So my question is : Is the mandatory insurance (right, wrong, or indifferent) making some people grow up and be more responsible adults???I am not a supporter of the Insurance being issued by the government. I do think that some people have their priorities mixed up in what they should and should not pay for or balance for in their budget. more

Resolved Question: How can my friend have gastro-bypass surgery for weight loss when she has blood poisoning?

my friend is one that has to get attention any way she can get it...she is obese and has wanted to get lapband or gastro bypass surgery for a while now...her insurance company has refused to pay for it on the grounds she has done nothing to try and lose the weight any other way and continues to gain weight at a bout 10-15 pounds a month...i live in another town a few hours away, but we stay in contact with face book as we do with a lot of our mutual friends...back in october she put on face book that she was in the hospital due to blood poisoning (something to do with her diabetes)...of course everyone on facebook would wish her well every day that she would post something about how terrible she was doing in the hospital...she ended up being in the hospital according to all of her posts for a month...2 weeks into her stay i was going to be headed back down to her area for business and i tried calling her cell phone and texting, but no reply...i sent her a facebook message telling her i would like to stop by the hospital to see her...she said that i couldn't because she had caught the flu even though she was already being pumped full of antibiotics...ok, maybe next time i typed to her...she gets out of the hospital and a week and a half later she says in a facebook post that she is back in the hospital...i was a little worried, so i tried calling her parents after trying to call her and i just got their voice mail and no return call...i am not the only friend worried about what is going on...she was "in the hospital" for about a week and got out...now about a week later again she post on facebook that she will finaly be going into the hospital to get her by-pass surgery and she will be there through christmas...i am not trying to sound insensitive, but this is starting to sound like something is not right...could the insurance company decided all of a sudden to grant her this surgery?...if she has had this much health issues the past month with blood poisoning from diabetes complications would doctors do a surgery that is not a life or death matter even though her blood is "poisened"...i hate to say this, but with her dodging her friends wishes to see her at the hospital i almost think she may be making her health issues up?...am i wrong for thinking that?...i just don't see how she would get surgery like this if she is in such poor health?...anyone else think something fishy is going on?... more

this is ridiculous. i did not spend the sixties smoking drugs or having gay sex in san francisco or shooting heroine into my vains. i am not a drunk, i am not a druggy, i am not a fornicator, i am not a smoker, i do not use my guns irresponsably, so i get health insurance. i pay a reasonable amount thru my employer, but now with the obamastan plan people with any disease you can name are going to be paying the same amount as me. this is ridiculous. so someone with cancer or aids or ebola or hepititis is going to have his insurance premium reduced so that he can buy it. i thought the reason we had pre existing conditions was to keep loosers and freeloaders out so that the insurance company could stay in business. people get sick cause they do stupid things if they stopped making the lifestyle choices they make and maybe put a little more faith in God instead of doctors (proof -God cured the blind and the dead, how many doctors do you know who can do the same) they would not be crying about health care every day like they do. so now i am stuck footing the bill for unhealthy people as well. this is wrong. congrats libs you have suceeded in turning america into russia -will you throw me in teh gulag or drag me down to the kremlin and torture me for saying this, yeah, you probably will. i wouldn't be suprised if glenn beck woke up dead tomorrow in your new americastan. you like sick people so much why don't you all get on a tire and sale to cuba. fidel will take care of you not me. we had pre existing clawses for a reason. have fun waiting on your waiting lists now libtards. step one in ruining the country. congratulations. more

Resolved Question: Why is my family kicking me out?

I'm turning 21 in 2 months and I have till mid-January to find an apartment or live on the streets. They're kicking me out bc I've dropped out of school and decided to commit fully on my job at McD's. That said, I wanna work at McD's for the rest of my life but they disapproved of my decision. Still, it's not like I was doing drugs or sleeping around. I'm just not cut out for school. Even b4 I graduated high school, I hated school. Therefore, it just doesn't justify kicking me out. That said, I might as well have no family. I found an income based apartment 5 miles away from my parents house and my work. Still, my hours (and therefore income) depends on the business, causing my budget to be erratic. Even if I'm confident I could afford it, I can't afford a car or car insurance. And after all the expenses, I'm not sure there'll be money left for food on the table and it's a long walk to the nearest food bank. How could they do this to me? Have they stopped caring about me? I'm already paying them rent bc of poor grades. I'm already helping around the house. I offered to pay even higher rent, but they want me out period. They said they don't want me around to piss them off all the time. I feel all alone bc while other ppl have parents to back them up, mine is ousting me. AND while other people get presents for Christmas, all I'm getting is kicked out. They already said plenty of degrading stuffs almost every day. I usually stand up for myself, so I fight back only to lose. Why do they hate me so much? How come other ppl have a family to care about them but mine just hates me? What can I do about this? I already ruled out going back to school. more

Resolved Question: FREE healthcare coverage for pimps, drug dealers AND thieves...?

...and anyone earning an HONEST living will be REQUIRED to pay?! I've been thinking...this healthcare thing is pretty much ALREADY voted in, and there is a majority vote of 60 (to pass it), and they don't care the MAJORITY of people are WORRIED about it, and they won't even consider reasonable things we can try BEFORE we CHANGE America for the worse forever. They are going to vote on it late on Christmas Eve without even explaining or understanding it or reading it (like the stimulus)...no one knows whats REALLY in the bill, but they are going to DO it anyway, when the people are not paying attention...which seems ALARMING to me, since once its voted in and signed THERE IS NO GOING BACK... If healthcare will be MANDATED for everyone, and if you don't buy it you will be fined$ and then possibly put in jail if you don't pay the fine and buy health insurance (from the last I heard)... How will they enforce this? From what I can gather, it's through your pay, your tax ID, your social security number. If you are too poor or low income to be able to afford your insurance you can fill out some affidavit and you will get help (from taxes, everyone else) to pay for it... What if you have a "job" that is "under the table?" What if you make your money illegally without paying taxes or collecting an "official" paycheck? Doesn't that mean the criminals will get FREE healthcare, since they can just say they can't find a job and are too broke to pay? And that the rest of us will get stuck with the bill (through taxes, or by paying higher prices because taxes on big business/rich will go up, which they WILL pass to us)? Doesn't that mean people who REALLY need help, like sweet little old ladies, or handicapped children will be deprived because we are too busy trying to pay for people who COULD pay for themselves? I guess my question is, what do you think? Any input will be appreciated, I would love any info that could make me feel better about this! Now THIS is why charity should be SEPARATE from the gov't! This has been going on a long time, I know...but now it is going over the point of no return...So many mistake gov't/country for God. So many are brainwashed and selfish.Infinit...quit just blaming the execs! The whole system is stupid...and we SHOULD be able to shop NATIONWIDE, and as consumers, we, The People can vote with our choices. WE could take care of this ourselves, if the gov't would step aside and let us shop outside the monopolies within our own states. Thanks for the link, Tim! I think I will go write to them and get this off my chest before Christmas! Although, by Christmas, there will be no turning back, smooth move America. 12.24.2009 remember that date. That's the date it will be voted in. That's the date America will be CHANGED past the point of no return. Then, we can all talk about the things in the bill, and all the stupid things that no one even read about BEFORE they voted. Yeah, I'm not letting America go down like this. more

Resolved Question: How can I go about getting healthcare if current new legislation passes?

I am a 30 year old single mother of two, with a work from home business in internet marketing that is doing better and better as time goes by, but I am far, far from rich. In fact, for my household size, I am barely above the poverty level, and back into it on bad months. I made the mistake of not buying health insurance for myself, and came down with gallbladder disease (needs to be removed). For those that know, this can be one of the most painful afflictions to have, and over time can lead to serious pancreatic problems. I had to go to the emergency room, and am now stuck with a 4k bill, and I have some pills that will ease oncoming attacks, but I need to get this taken care of, and can't afford to pay for it out of pocket. I am not eligible for aid, and my credit is not good enough for the hospital to finance it. I have done a lot of research. I know that I can get what's called "group insurance", if I add someone else to my business, but they can deny me for up to a year for a pre-existing condition, and who knows how much the payments/deductible are going to be. My saving grace might be the new healthcare legislation, and it may not, sorry but I just can't totally comprehend all the noise that's out there about it. I do know that they are pushing for legislation by Christmas. The point of what I'm trying to ask is, if this legislation gets passed, will I be able to get affordable healthcare coverage, and for this pre-existing condition? If so, are there any experts out there that can point me in the right direction of where to start once this takes place? This is a very painful condition that I would like to get care for ASAP, if possible. If I could get a heads up on where to begin, I would be that much closer. I do understand that this legislation might not even go into full effect immediately, and I was under the impression previously that it would take 5-10 years for this healthcare overhaul to really happen, for the people. I honestly have resigned myself to have to just live with it, and hope that I can go to the emergency room and have an emergency operation should my pancreatic duct become obstructed etc. unless I can earn enough money to pay for the procedure out of pocket. Thank you very kindly in advance. more

Resolved Question: Why are insurance company profits so high?

The same reason pharmeceutical and medical supply companies, and the oil tycoons, and many other major corporations are. Every year, they have to stand before congress and answer for their business practice. Every year, congress asks them why they are making so much money while americans are suffering, and every year they reply with the equivalent of "so what". Hell, they made Microsoft break down even, saying he had a monopoly well wtf do you call it when insurance laws are so broad and vague that they can manipulate different situations to make it look like you are paying for something when you really arent, and this is assuming you could afford to pay at all. Or how about all 5 oil companies raise their prices at the exact same time for bs reasons? what do you call it when all 5 major cell phone companies screw you in the same ways. Same for car insurance, which has been mandatory forever, and if I pay 200 dollars a month for 3 years, then have a wreck that only costs a grand, I still goatta pay 500 deductible? And our congress is the reason it gets by. Our entire government is a joke, and should be stripped and prosecuted as criminals just like people have said about bush. I don't know why ppl hate him so much, he hasn't done nearly as much damage as has been done here by congress. You should know what you are talking about before you speak. http://abcnews.go.com/Business/health-insurance-profits-worth-outrage/story?id=9036632 Hundreds of millions in dollars while people suffer, you must be one of them to try to excuse it.Ha! I'll have to look into this minimum liability coverage you speak of, as for not operating a car, that is possible in some places for some people, but not for someone who has a schedule like mine in a major metropolitan area like mine. Busses work for summer fun, not for being a man.kk...I don't believe that it is only a 3-5 pct profit margin so prove it please. and even if it is, their .5 pct profits would obviously be more than most americans could ever dream of, and were suffering, and even those who have health insurance get screwed by paying hundreds of dollars a month and then when they need it boom copays and this and that isnt covered and etc. I'm not talking just about health insurance companies, but please don't make exuses for them.Oh my God, walmart is a retail chain and you try to compare their profits with the oil and insurance industries? Wow, you will go to any level to not have to open your eyes. How about this genius, water powered cars were developed in the 30's. We put a man on the moon in the 60's. We could have been oil independant a long time ago if we wanted to. Those bastards arent hurting. I remember watching them in front of congress last time when oil prices were all crazy high and people were like wtf more

Resolved Question: Can I write off stuff as a sole-proprietor?

I'm 24, male, and I live in California the last year (I moved here in January). About the same time in january I got a crappy job, and then starting making money as an online advertiser from home (buying ad-space on google and whatnot). Now, almost 1 year later I have made probably 30k revenue (although for the first 6 months I wasn't making real money at all, I had that crappy job then I quit when I started making several thousand a month). The problem is I haven't kept up with my finances and now I need to go through and find how much I owe in taxes. I do NOT have a business entity set up (yet). I don't have an llc, s-corp, etc.. I'm just a sole individual. During this period I also had 2 incidents where I went to the ER twice which cost about $7 or 8k (I don't have insurance), a business trip to vegas Which cost 1-2k and some other things. My question is, being male, 24, single, no business entity, living in california... 1. Can I write off my large medical bills as an expense so that I don't have to count it towards the profit/income that I need to pay taxes on? 2. Can I write off all the other things that have to do with business.. such as the vegas business trip, a portion of my rent, a portion of my cellphone bill, a portion of my food, etc? Someone told me unless I have a business entity (not a sole proprietor) I can't write anything off.. it's all counting as income, whether its a medical bill or biz expense or whatever. Another person told me though that I can in fact do that. Anyone have any tips? I plan to get a CPA so I don't need to ask on yahoo answers (lol), but a 100% positive answer by someone would really help ease my tension in case I end up having to pay taxes on all those medical bills. Thanks more

Resolved Question: I'm in an ongoing battle with my mom, It is a lose lose situation for me.. what are your opinions?

I am an 18 year old female, who works 2 part-time jobs and am building up my resume, who is going to community college as a full time student, getting very good grades, I pay car payments to my parents who I borrowed money from to buy my car, cell phone bills, and car insurance monthly which equals out to about $350 a month.. I always make my payments on time and sometimes even try to throw in extra cash to get my car payment over with faster... in which case my mom yells at me for giving her more than we agreed upon and how I'm stupid for doing so, I do not party, no drinking, no drugs for me. I am the middle child, I have a 23 year old brother who recently just bought a house with his girlfriend, and an 11 year old sister. My mom is an overweight stay at home mother. I have been with my boyfriend for over 4 years and we couldn't be happier, he and his family are my rocks. As a child, my mom never seemed to really go off on any type of yelling spree's and always seemed to be somewhat a joyful person. She was thin, got her hair done, and took care of herself. When I was 7 years old, my mom got pregnant with my little sister. Everything was all good at first. As the years progressed I went to having my own room, to having to share a room, and still do ( I am 18, she is 11 ). I was fine with it at first, but now since we are completely different age groups, it is very hard. Over the past, I'd say about 5 years... especially when I started dating and my younger sister started to grow up my mother started getting very nasty. She would say very hurtful things to me, and I would have an attitude back and she would always try to put me at fault and tell me I am disrespectful. I get told I do nothing correctly around the house and I do everything wrong. So I stopped doing things around the house, I now get yelled at for not doing anything around the house, and get told I am very lazy, when I have lots of papers and studying to deal with, but I try to help out the best I can. I am soon to by 19 years old and have been with my lovely boyfriend for over 4 years. My parents still do not allow us in my room, and my mom flips out when I ask to spend the night at either his house or stay at my house. In which case, at my house he sleeps downstairs on the couch, and at his house I sleep in his sisters room with the door shut... which she is more than aware of. So i more or less just stopped bring that situation up. She tells me how much she loves my boyfriend all the time, but then tells me she shouldn't have let me date so young. I really don't do anything wrong, I ask my close friends and family if they see anything and they tell me I just have the attitude pop up when she jumps down my throat. Today for instance, she told me she didn't want me driving in the snow, then she told me i can drive she will go with me.. I come downstairs to see a note on the table from my dad who was at work that read "heather, help mom clean the house today - dad" I very calmly asked my mom wait how come my little sisters name isn't on her? and my little sister chimes in telling me to shutup, and who cares and just saying nasty comments. So i stomped over to my little sister and she screamed. I told her this is none of her business I am talking to my mother and my mom said don't you even get mad at her she has nothing to do with anything! and it escalated from there. After me trying to stay calm and not be mean to my mother, only my sister my mom says "thank god there's not a knife around here" and telling me to drive by myself today to my dentist appointment and she hopes I crash. She continues to tell me if she dies, it is all my fault. At the dinner table i asked my mom a question she said she wasn't talking to me until she got an apology. I told her nicely i was not giving her one, and told her i think i deserve one for her more or less telling me she would have killed me today and hoped i would crash and die, she said "yup I said that, so what?" so she started yelling at getting angry and i calmly tried telling her my side of the story and she told me she didn't care what i had to say and that it didn't matter. So i went upstairs to my room. 2 minutes later she calls me down screaming my name, i said hold on i'm just trying to relax give me a minute.. so i went downstairs and she said i have 12 days to get out her house.. by jan 1st, which is in 2 weeks. and my college tuition is not being paid for.. and the tuition is due in 3 weeks and i have no way of paying for it and there is no way of taking out a loan right now i would never get it in time. I am able to move into my boyfriends house so that gives me food and shelter. but what about car insurance? and health insurance? and tuition. ugh My sister is always favored by my mother... if my dad yells at her, my mom yells at my dad and my dad caves. My dad never says anything to defend me, and when he does he gets shot down by my mother. I told my mom i want us to go to more

Resolved Question: Help on my landscaping and construction business plan i need answers under each topic please help asap.?

Promotion How will you get the word out to customers? Advertising: What media, why, and how often? Why this mix and not some other? Have you identified low-cost methods to get the most out of your promotional budget? Will you use methods other than paid advertising, such as trade shows, catalogs, dealer incentives, word of mouth (how will you stimulate it?), and network of friends or professionals? Should you have a system to identify repeat customers and then systematically contact them? How much will you spend on the items listed above? Where will this money come from? Image What image do you want to project? How do you want customers to see you? What plans do you have for graphic image support? This includes things like logo design, cards and letterhead, brochures, signage, and interior design (if customers come to your place of business). Pricing Explain your method or methods of setting prices. Compare your prices with those of the competition. Are they higher, lower, the same? Why? For most small businesses, having the lowest price might take away from profit margin; large competitors can under price you anyway. Will you have average prices and compete on quality and service? Does your pricing strategy fit with what was revealed in your competitive analysis? How important is price as a competitive factor? Do your intended customers really make their purchase decisions mostly on price? Proposed Location Is your location important to your customers? If yes, how? If customers come to your place of business: Is it convenient? Parking? Interior spaces? Not out of the way? Is it consistent with your image? Is it what customers want and expect? Where is the competition located? Is it better for you to be near them (like car dealers or fast food restaurants) or distant (like convenience food stores)? What qualities do you need in a location? Describe the type of location you’ll have. Physical requirements: • Amount of space • Type of building • Zoning • Power and other utilities Access: Is it important that your location be convenient to transportation or to suppliers? Do you need easy walk-in access? What are your requirements for parking and proximity to freeway, airports, railroads, and shipping centers? Include a drawing or layout of your proposed facility if it is important, as it might be for a manufacturer. Construction? Most new companies should not sink capital into construction, but if you are planning to build, costs and specifications will be a big part of your plan. Cost: Estimate your occupation expenses, including rent, but also including maintenance, utilities, insurance, and initial remodeling costs to make the space suit your needs. What will be your business hours? Distribution Channels How do you sell your products or services? • Retail • Direct (mail order, Web, catalog) • Wholesale • Your own sales force • Agents • Independent representatives • Bid on contracts ......I need answers for these in your opinion for a business plan for a landscaping and construction company please help more

Resolved Question: Do I have a chance at becoming a hustler?

I'm in high school right now and I'm located in a country(was U.S.A, right now... in continent of asia) which I suppose has a very bright future, since I was a kid , It was my dream to always end up in a high flying blue collar job somewhere up in Wall Street and slowly become a partner of big firms, but I have so many ambitions, but my wall street dreams deviated once I moved to the land of the software people, I have so much on my mind, I'm currently taking the Business and Commerce stream in my high school and most of my classes are cakewalks for me, I used to flunk half the time in tenth with science and math, I still have math but I mean the Business Studies textbook and Economics textbooks come to me naturally, I dont even have to study for tests and I can ace them, I savour every bit of these books... I'm not an einstein at math so acing the SAT test and landing in some Ivy league is not my priority, it is to me, still a dream. But one great thing I got going for myself right now , sorry if I sound like an oppertunist(hey, told ya I wanted to be a hustler), but right now, I go to one of the most prestigious schools in my city and I have politician's sons as my friends, and construction baron descendants sitting behind my chair, I mean, I know people to can make things happen with a clap. When I get back to the states, I plan to go to a decent B-School and bachelor in accounting, as that is the blood of all forms of business and it would help me become business literate, and then I plan to major in Finance....after that, I plan to become an ERP consultant in case any of my plans dont work as I obviously need a back-up strategy, I will later use the initial salary earned for my ambitions should anything go haywire.....but if the wind is right, I plan to use some of my "connections"(trust me, not petty people, close people too) as my venture capitalists, to start my own soft-drink company, and after a few years, I plan start a construction/real estate company (like TRUMP)and take both of my companies public, eventually I also would like to fullfill my dreams of starting an electric automobile company along with a Insurance company. My dad(who was a small time restuarant owner), has a little idea about my plans, as I told him, but I didn't exactly give him the blueprint I gave you guys even though I think he has an Idea. All I want to know is am I being too overconfident or am I correct about my timing? I consider my self very fortunate to have the right things happen to me so far, its like everything is lined up for me, all I got to do is shoot. I know exactly how hard it is to fulfill dreams, everybody has dreams, only some fulfill it. My mom say isn't exactly pessimistic but she knows me and my network, and I dont think the chances I have aren't something I'm overmining, am I? Let's think about it, sons of politicians, sons of barons as my friends, potential backers, dreams of mine...they can pay for. See, I dont want to act overconfidant and start crying if any of these visions actually get nowhere, but I'm a person who believes in vision, and I wouldn't even rely on just my contacts to get me anywhere, but I can trick a person into buying their own shoes.....Plus I have great managerial skills.... So I'm being optimistic. Is everything in my favour? more
