BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY

Because Intels largest customers are computer makers, its tempting to say that Intels results are a sign that businesses plan to buy more tech equipment from a number of suppliers.

But were not convinced. Weve seen too many surveys and talked to too many tech execs to not believe that theres a spending slowdown. That said, wed be shocked if Intel turns out to be the only tech company that posts better-than-expected earnings this quarter.

For one thing, consumer PC purchases–particularly in countries where newcomers are clamoring to get on the Internet–aren't likely to be affected by issues such as a decline in the U.S. housing market. And, when it comes to businesses, companies don't typically stop buying altogether in a downturn–they just get more selective. more

CORTICON Delivers Industry's First Model-Driven Business Rules

NET product, which together with Corticon Business Rules Modeling Studio comprises the industry's first and only model-driven BRMS for pure Microsoft environments.

Corticon offers the only BRMS solution that enables the deployment flexibility and investment protection of modeling once, and deploying into heterogeneous environments. This compares favorably with offerings such as Ilog Jrules and Ilog Rules for .NET, where the Microsoft .NET® and Java execution environments require separate and distinct rule definition, which is both technical in nature and not easily interchanged.* By contrast, Corticon's business-friendly rule models can be executed without modification in a Microsoft .NET® environment, a J2EE environment, or both.

Open Question: Who else in here thinks that Whites are overly obsessed with animals?

Okay, go on and call me a racist but I will call it how I see. I mean just today I was with my parents and we were at the shelter, we got ourselves a Samoyed (after our Husky passed away) and then some White lady started bothering us. Asked us "is that a Samoyed?", we said yes. She told us, "you know it would be best if you gave it back because those breeds are not for beginners". I told her "maybe you should keep your nose out of our lives, we already are coping with the death of our Husky so mind your own business before this situation turns into a disaster". She said "whatever, you people make your dogs fight and can't even take care of them". We simply ignored her but I have noticed over a long period of time that Whites tend to be heavily obsessed with their animals. I see Animal Planet and they have shows like "Dogs 101", OKAY why should a dog's breed matter so much? People whined and told us not to get a Husky or a Pitbull, we had both and both were great family pets for us. I wouldn't trade them in for a pathetic golden retriever. Is there any reason as to why White Americans are so obsessed with their animals? more

Open Question: psychotic "business partner"- help?

So my boyfriend and his business partner just went to a fashion trade show, in which their line was picked up by bloomingdales and nordstrom. Here's the catch, my boyfriend is the artist and the only thing nordstrom and bloomingdales picked up was his artwork (on shirts) - none of the combined designs of wovens and button-ups they created together. His business partner has created more problems than anything else during the duration of their 4-month long business relationship. They do not have a contract and the only thing he owns is the LLC for the name but that's easily fixed with "re-branding." Long story short his business partner is threatening to get his attorney involved because he believes he has ties to all of this- my boyfriend had already agreed to give him a percentage of the orders but after that they part ways, so him bringing a lawyer into this is him trying to use a scare tactic, correct? My boyfriend is the artist, all of his art is copy-written, so there is no way he can take him to court for this right? There is NO contract between the two of them. I believe it's a scare tactic because his "business partner" knows he wont get anywhere without him now... advice anyone? more

Open Question: I have a great opportunity here.. but I just don't feel right. Need advice.?

So I am nineteen years old and, not to toot my own horn, but I guess you could say I'm a pretty talented artist. I'm really good at drawing and stuff. So for a while now I have thought that it would be cool to be a tattoo artist. It's just something I think I would really love. I love tattoos (even though I don't have any yet, a lot of my friends and family have them, and everyone's always told me I should get into the business due to my natural talent. So a few days ago I went with my sister to get her a tattoo by one of her friends who is a tattoo artist. While I was there I showed the tattoo artist my portfolio and she agreed to give me an apprenticeship. For those of you who don't know, an apprenticeship is when an artist takes you under their wing so to speak and teach you how to tattoo. The thing is- you don't get payed. But it's just as time consuming and exhausting as a real job. Most apprenticeships start off with you being the shops' you-know-what for a while. Doing everything for everyone and cleaning among other things.. for no pay. Then once they see you are committed, they teach you the trade. Some apprenticeships last for 1-2 years before you become a real tattoo artist. This girl (my apprentice) is willing give me a job in 8 weeks. EIGHT WEEKS!! It's a great opportunity for someone as young as me. However- my family is in some hard times right now financially and my sister crashed our only running car.. then crashed the rental car. Yes, I'm serious. So we are currently borrowing a friend's car. Now I have to be at the shop 4 days a week and typically I stay there for 7-10 hours at a time. A lot of hours for someone making no money, right ? Not to mention the gas money and hassle it takes to get back and forth. I also am faced with the dilemma of not being able to go to college if I become a tattoo artist. I am 19 right now and have yet to start any classes, but I was scheduled to start this May. If I do so, I won't have time to be a tattoo artist. So I kinda have to choose between the two. If I put off tattooing for now, it's almost guaranteed I will not find an opportunity to become a tattoo artist so quickly, or at all down the road. So it's tough. A lot of my friends and family are very excited for me and congratulating me on my apprenticeship so I feel like if I decide not to do it, they will all think I wasted a huge opportunity and be disappointed. I know I'm an adult and my choices are my choices.. but it's just some added pressure that doesn't help. It's just that ever since I started this apprenticeship (4 days now) I have been exhausted and in a bad mood and almost feel depressed. And knowing that there is no paycheck at the end of the week doesn't help. It's been a hassle getting back and forth and even though I have 2 days off until I have to go back, I have anxiety thinking about going back. When I'm at the shop, I have no cash for lunch usually so the tattoo artist has to buy me food which is embarrassing. My parents don't really have the money to give me, either. I usually have no gas to get there so I have to hitch a ride from someone. Plus, I don't have time to work out regularly like I used to which sucks. Am I wasting my time ? Is it really worth it ? Do I really want to be a tattoo artist this bad ? Is it wrong to put off college for this ? Am I just being lazy ? So many things going through my head. I can't find a job right now either and even if I did, It would be tough juggling both a job and my apprenticeship at the same time. I wanted to explain my situation and get some outside perspective on the whole thing. What do you gather from this ? Should I continue with it ? more

Resolved Question: Indians: how do you find the Govt decision to enhance TDS rate for non PAN holders?

The govt in Income Tax dept had decided to collect double TDS (20%) from investors not having a PAN from this year itself. Deposits drawing interest / dividend of more than Rs 5000 per annum would attract TDS. Investors who do not expect to come under tax net like unemployed home makers, old people etc furnish Form 15 G or H to waive TDS. But as per present orders of govt, the application in Form 15 G / H would not be effective if there is no PAN. So the companies who received deposits for the year are asking such people - the unemployed old people or lower middle class families mainly - to get and intimate the PAN to avoid TDS before March end or face deduction at their end ! Do you think this is necessary? When every business house / professional etc are evading tax in big way with the help of account experts, is it necessary to squeeze the people in lower economic rungs like this? Recently a friend was booking wedding hall in the city and paid 50k to the management for which a receipt of Rs 25k was given as Rent and the rest shown as charges for services like water, cleaning etc. And the friend was told that the additional amenities like electricity, furniture, water, cleaning charges etc were actually extra and would be collected in "cash" after the function! Thus easily 25k is removed from tax net by the rich ones even in a single transaction, while the poor small investors are being harassed to get PAN and all, because their pay off is routed through formal institutional channels. Are our Finance Ministers (who are often from trade community) so innocent or so crude in ordering like this? what is your take on this?Pinky missed the point that I was not doubting the procedure but questioning the veracity of govt decision impacting the unemployed, low income layers rather than addressing the rich openly flouting rules. Reddy seems either from the trade community or govt, with an answer that cleanly diverts the focus. In a country with hardly a third of population upper mid class and a tenth under rich category, rest falling under poor, lower middle groups, what is the fun of issuing PAN to all? Why not raise the tax resources by sincerely monitoring the rich / upper mid class PAN holder who evades large tax liability already? more

Resolved Question: Problem when buying a car.?

So, I bought this car...I am a soldier deployed in Iraq and my wife was handling all the trading business of the deal. The guy selling the car let us test drive it, showed us a clean title, and was very motivated to sell. We haggled a little on price and finally bought the car for $2150. After buying the car, we went to DMV to get a title transfer and found that it had a salvaged title in our state. The clean title was in a neighboring state. So, since the guy selling the car lied to us, we asked him to get the frame of the car checked with a frame shop (insurance wont insure the car if it has frame damage). We found out that the car does indeed have unibody damage. The guy wont give us the money back, he only had the car for 3 weeks, so we figure he had the same problem with who he bought it from. What can I do from here? more

Voting Question: Is the party over for the AGW crowd?

Cap-and-Tax Escape The climate lobby loses three members. Yesterday's corporate defections from the U.S. Climate Action Partnership (USCAP) won't be greeted with the same hosannas as last year's departures of Nike and Apple from the Chamber of Commerce over its global warming stance, but they're undoubtedly more important. This scales-from-eyes moment shows that some big American businesses are putting shareholders and consumers ahead of politics. The departing are BP America, Conoco Phillips and Caterpillar, which were among the original members of USCAP, a coalition of green pressure groups and Fortune 500 businesses that tried to drive a cap-and-trade program into law. Some corporate members concluded that climate legislation was inevitable and hoped to tip it in a more business-friendly direction. Others—ahem, General Electric—are in our view engaged in little more than old-fashioned rent-seeking. Through regulatory gaming, Congress would choose business winners and losers, dispensing billions of dollars in carbon permits to the politically connected. The climate bills the House passed in August and Senate liberals are contemplating have stripped away that illusion. Carbon tariffs and other regulations would have damaged heavy manufacturing against global competitors, which explains Caterpillar's exit, while oil companies would suffer as transportation, refining and power generation via natural gas were punished. Then there's the harm to long-run growth, which would slow under the economy-wide drag of new taxes and federal mandates. Businesses thrive on regulatory certainty, and when cap and tax seemed inevitable maybe an outfit like USCAP could be justified. But the costly reality of the climate agenda is resulting in a change of heart among both the business and political classes even as climate science comes under new scrutiny—and we suspect that several other corporations may follow these three to the exits. It's a measure of liberal overreach that they've managed to alienate the biggest companies that were cheerleading their climate ambitions. WSJ 02-17-10 more

Voting Question: Do you think the TAXES are fair in the United States ?

Taxes - are one of the biggest scams that the American people seem to keep falling for over and over again with any protest. The politicians propose a tax hike or make up some kind of new tax and the American people are stupid enough to pay it. Politicians love to develop new ways to make a cash cow or slush fund for themselves to have monies available for their greedy selves to do what they wish through taxation. The question is, what is our taxes really being spent on? The politicians never show you where the money went, or what they did with it. However, our government wants to know exactly how much we make as earned income, tax us on what we me, tax us again for what we buy, tax us again when someone inherits our money, and taxes again if we invest our already taxed money on America’s future through investments called capitol gains tax. Maybe, it is about time we audit our government and find out exactly what they’re spending our money on. Most likely, they wouldn’t tell us the truth anyway. If you think how much one working individual pays in taxes each and every single day, multiply that by the number of people working in America and you have an overwhelming amount of taxpayer money being handed over to the U.S. government each day. What pisses me off even more is how the U.S. government spends it. What happens if Americans refused to work and protest 24/7 without any tax revenue going into our lovely government? Maybe that will get the politician's attention? It is only a matter of time, people will revolt and say screw it, why even go to work anymore when Uncle same is on the take, enough is enough. Especially when our government is spending our taxpayer dollars bigtime on BS and unfairly taxing us without any regard for where our money is actually going.... Is Obama intentionally trying to bankrupt America and screw it up so bad that terrorists won't even recognize the USA in months to come? HOW MUCH is enough??? If you take into consideration for all of the different taxes we pay, it is equivalent to 50% + of our incomes.... taking half from each and every single person to fix the roads, to provide police and fire protection, etc. C'mon??? Our goverment got us working as slaves and you know it... the so-called super power needing to steal money from its people??? IT IS ALL ABOUT CONTROL..... With all of the unfair taxes we pay, it is like 50 - 60% of our income. I can't see any taxes increase, we already pay enough!!! How about we protest 24-7, not work, and not pay our governement anything, nuttin' zilch, zero, and say come get it... what would they do? Then, maybe they will listen to the people, that'll be change we really can see and believe in. According to the two-faced snake Harry Reid, “taxes are voluntary” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7mRSI8yW… so why don't we take his advice and all get together on the same page and protest... I don't think we will have to wait, our government will push us into this protest very soon. Look at all the States that don't have any money, look at the infrastructure, the economy, the unemployment rate, etc. It is just a matter of time until the Government crumbles from within....by choice or not, with all businesses closed down, and no individual incomes, and no trade of goods and services anymore, , you'll be right there protesting too. Our politicans are scrambling to come up with other taxes so they can take our money so they can misappropriate it. Fast food tax, soda tax, how about set the clocks back tax..... The wealthiest most powerful country in the world has to steal money from their citizens?????? Is this OK, is it acceptable? So much for paying our fair share, if you add up all the kinds of taxes we pay, it is at least half of our income!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And more importantly, I'd really like to see where this money is going.... Are we really FREE? Or do we pay to live in the good ol' corrupt USA??? WE are divided and conquered slaves... lolololol.. WE PAY TO LIVE HERE..... YOU CAN NOT COMPARE AMERICA TO OTHER COUNTRIES TAXES.... OF WHAT OTHER COUNTRIES PAY.... Ohhh, so you say we got it good,,,,, we are lucky- BS. MY GRANDFATHERS, UNCLES, FATHER, COUSINS, didn't fight for this country so we can all be slaves!!!! The most powerful country in the world has to STEAL from their people..... very sad!!!!!!!!!!!!Sam, all of those vital things you've mentioned are paid ten times over with what the people pay. Voting Question: Help with the name of my new business?

I want to start a small jewelry, handbag/purse business for women. I plan on offering mainly costume jewelry, all the new stylish trends and also rhinestone handbags and belts. I might expand to other things eventually, like candles or who knows so I don't really want jewelry to be in the name of my business. I'm having a hard time coming up with a name as when I search the internet, alot of the names I have come up with have already been used before in other business's. Right now I don't plan on opening up a physical store, I mainly want to do trade shows, internet sales, and maybe home parties. One of these days, if it becomes a huge hit, I could open my own store. I have been trying to come of with names using either diva or chic, and also designs or fashions. If any of you have any ideas that you might want to share with me to help me, I would greatly appreciate it. more

Resolved Question: Poll: How Americans feel about being a nosy neighbor?

So I am reading my local paper and I stumble across an article titled "Poll: Half of Americans want U.S. to butt out." The article is about several polls done around the U.S, and how people feel about the role America plays in the world today. The article gives some questions such as "should America mind it own business internationally?" and "should we go our own way?" Although these questions are really vague they raise an interesting point-should we? To quote the article, "survey respondents younger than 30 are far more likely than older ones to think that the U.S too often gets tangled up in the affairs of others." They say the reason for this is that the younger "twitter" generation can recall no other world other than the one where the U.S. is the sole super power. That the generation that fought World War 2 "required little persuading that it was always better to fight a war in another country than wait for one in your own." While 59% of those younger told the poll that the country should mind its own business only 39% stated that "we should go our own way" Which negates the idea that young people are isolationists. IN the last half-century isolationist views were more commonly expressed by people with lower incomes than by the college-educated or affluent, surveys showed. That allowed people and policy shapers to mostly shrug off arguments to, say, erect trade barriers to protect American jobs. So I have several questions regarding this article. I thought that this would be the perfect place to see how a broad range of people felt about the issue. 1) Should Americans(or Government) focus more on the issues at hand in our own country? 2) Should we as a country support laws and policy that chooses to ignore world issues and promote growth of our own economy? or "make our own way?" 3) Should we set up trade barriers to protect jobs here in America, and put polices in place to bring back some of the jobs lost to outsourcing? Please let me know how you feel, I am curious to know how an "average joe" like me feels about the issues that white collar politicians are facing. more

Resolved Question: Do we people in the cricket section thrive on controversies?

This is in response to a mail I got a few minutes back from a Pakistani friend. He's upset, and I don't blame him. He raised some points that need some clarifications. First of all the Govt. of India has nothing to do with the inclusion or non inclusion of players in the IPL. In fact the govt had issued visas to these 11 players...that too on a very short notice. The India govt wants to improve relations with Pakistan and sometimes is willing ti bend the back a little but are not in a position to give any directives to the franchisees. Secondly the BCCI too has nothing to do with it. they had sold out the franchise after taking billions and can't tell the franchisees how to run the show. It's purely a business matter. The franchisees are under the impression ( genuine or otherwise) that the matches will be disrupted if certain players are involved, so they are taking the easy way out. I won't go into the moralities of their actions. They are hard core businessmen and will play safe. Another point in my friend's mail was, " Why are you taking the Aussies when they abuse you and sledge your team?" All I can say is, if Ambani, Sharukh, Priety etc feel they can run the show better with Gilchrist, Symmonds, Martyn etc than with Afridi, Tanwir, Akmal etc, we can't argue with them. It's their money...their show...their profit or loss. The Indians and Pakistanis are trading charges and abusing each other with little or no knowledge about the matter. Other vested interests too are joining in to stir the pot. Can't say it makes sense. How about you? more

Resolved Question: Are trade shows good for small business?

I am starting a new business in the forensic field. There seems to be a large number of trade shows this year that pertain to my line of business. Since I don't have a large marketing budget, I'm wondering if spending 2K for a trade show booth is worth it? more

Resolved Question: Which oil companies is it okay to accept funding from?

In another question I linked to a site (www.co2science.org) which listed various studies on the Medieval Warm Period. I was criticised for this choice of site as it has accepted funding from Exxon (which i already knew, having checked Sourcewatch). From what I can gather, the criticism is that any organisation which accepts funding from a big oil company is, by that very fact, dubious. Now, I'm not sure that's particularly true (it may just be that the company feels that the organisation's efforts or research is likely to coincide with its own) but if that's the case, then what about the research from the Climate Research Unit and the Tyndall Centre who as we now know have approached Shell for funding, as the email below shows: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ""SHELL INTERNATIONAL Mick Kelly and Aeree Kim (CRU, ENV) met with Robert Kleiburg (Shell International’s climate change team) on July 4th primarily to discuss access to Shell information as part of Aeree’s PhD study (our initiative) and broader collaboration through postgrad. student project placements (their initiative), but Robert was also interested in plans for the Tyndall Centre (TC). What ensued was necessarily a rather speculative discussion with the following points emerging. Shell International would give serious consideration to what I referred to in the meeting as a ‘strategic partnership’ with the TC, broadly equivalent to a ‘flagship alliance’ in the TC proposal. A strategic partnership would involve not only the provision of funding but some (limited but genuine) role in setting the research agenda etc. Shell’s interest is not in basic science. Any work they support must have a clear and immediate relevance to ‘real-world’ activities. They are particularly interested in emissions trading and CDM. Robert seemed to be more interested in supporting overseas (developing world) than home/EU studentships, presumably because of the credit abroad and their involvement in CDM. (It is just possible this impression was partially due to the focus on Aeree’s work in the overall discussion but I doubt it.) It seems likely that any support for studentships would be on a case by case basis according to the particular project in question. Finally, we agreed that we would propose a topic to this year’s MSc intake as a placement with Shell and see if any student expressed interest. If this comes off we can run it under the TC banner if it would help. I would suggest that Robert and his boss are invited to the TC launch at the very least (assuming it will be an invite type affair). Question is how can we and who should take this a step further. Maybe a meeting at Shell with business liaison person, Mike H if time and myself if time? I’d like to/am happy to stay involved through the next stage but then will probably have to back off. We didn’t cover the new renewable energy foundation. Mick Kelly 11 September 2000"" uea-tyndall-shell-memo.doc ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What "role in setting the research agenda" did Shell get, and why is it not a problem that the Tyndall Centre accepts money from Shell, BP and other oil companies, and lets them shape the "research agenda" but when a website accepts a donation from an oil company, then any study it so much as refers to is suspect? Double standards? .EDIT - @ Don't Panic. You wrote: ""It's a question of the driving force behind the research. Who wants the research to be done and for what purpose. "" ~ So it's okay for the CRU to take money from those nice people at Shell because their intentions are pure? (Like justifying emissions trading, eh?) The driving force behind my question? I want to understand why some people feel its fine for big oil companies to have a role in shaping the research agenda (when it's clear that their only motivation is making money from emissions trading) when the research agrees with what they believe. But when the an oil company funds research or a site that says stuff they disagree with, all of sudden that connection means we can't believe any of it. .---------------------------------------------------- EDIT @ Dawei Good point. I should of included a link to a cached copy of the (now deleted) CRU History page at the University of East Anglia. http://66.102.9.132/search?q=cache:http://www.cru.uea.ac.uk/cru/about/history/ As you will see, Shell, BP - and Greenpeace - are listed amongst their sources of funding (scroll to bottom of page for list). . more

Resolved Question: Should cap and trade alarmists take a note from Art Rosenfeld's book?

Art Rosenfeld is retiring as a California Energy Commissioner at the age of 83. He's an energy efficiency visionary who played the biggest role in making California the most energy efficient state in the USA, using roughly the same enery per capita today as we did 30 years ago. The rest of the country's energy consumption has increased 40% over that period. "New homes and buildings were required to be better insulated and fitted with energy-wise lighting, heating and cooling systems. Appliances had to be designed to use less power. Utilities were forced to motivate their customers to use less electricity. The principle, Rosenfeld said, was simple: Conserving energy is cheaper and smarter than building power plants. Not surprisingly, those rules were attacked by business groups as bureaucratic job killers. Rosenfeld, who received his doctorate from the University of Chicago, was called unqualified by critics at Pacific Gas & Electric Co., one of California’s largest utilities. Yet these mandates have yielded about $30 billion annually in energy savings for California consumers. They’ve eliminated air pollution that’s the equivalent of taking 100 million cars off the roads. They have been copied by states and countries worldwide." "New [television] efficiency mandates go into effect Jan. 1, 2011, and become more stringent two years later. They’re expected to save Californians $8 billion in energy costs over a decade. Some TV makers weren’t happy. Rosenfeld wasn’t surprised. “The first time we put standards on a product, we tend to get objections that this will be the ruin of civilization as we know it,” he mused. “But then people get used to it.” http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-rosenfeld11-2010jan11,0,2961914,full.story This reminds me of carbon cap and trade alarmists, who say this system will destroy the economy even though economic studies have shown it will have a minimal economic impact. Then they attack the scientists. Everyone says these sorts of policies will cost too much, then they're implemented and the alarmists are proven wrong. The same thing happened with CFCs and sulfur emissions when they were regulated. What do you think - should cap and trade alarmists take a note from Art Rosenfeld's book?Eric, increasing efficiency is far cheaper than having to build new power plants to meet rising energy demand. Certain individuals love to talk about how we need to build more nuclear power plants. Increasing energy efficiency is an order of magnitude cheaper.Oh and by the way, many hybrids pay for the added up-front cost in just a few years. http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2008/05/hybrids-taking.html more

Voting Question: Which is the most fundamental right? The right to life or the right to liberty?

Superficially, the right to life seems to be the most fundamental. However, upon further examination, I believe the right to liberty is even more fundamental than the right to life. This question is very important, especially considering that many people today claim that the right to liberty must be sacrificed to provide sufficient security to maintain the right to life. I don't see how a life without liberty would be worth living. What exactly is the point of living if you must live your life according to the whims of others (whether those others are a dictator, a ruling class, a democratically elected despot, or a slaveowner is irrelevant)? Nor do people always choose life over death. If a person is given the choice between being brutally tortured for the rest of his life or an immediate execution, he will almost certain choose death. Although this is an extreme example, what it does show is that life is not considered an absolute. The founders of this country (the USA) also believed that liberty is even more fundamental than life: "Give me Liberty, or give me Death!" - Patrick Henry "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin When reading the words of the Founders (on this issue and on other issues), I am amazed at how far the nation they founded has fallen. America was a nation that was founded on the idea of liberty, both personal liberty and economic liberty. America was also originally founded as a nation that minded its own business in foreign policy, seeking peace, trade, and friendship with all nations, but entangling alliances with none. Today, this country is a nation that starts wars, that stations troops in around 150 nations, and where the government routinely violates the most fundamental rights of the people. Even worse is the fact that American voters have not been offered a choice between the modern America and the true America at any point in recent memory. We are constantly forced to choose between 2 political parties that are both fundamentally not just un-American, but anti-American in the proper sense of the word. more

Resolved Question: WWE International Division gets a new person heading it up just now?

Ok. I own a little WWE stock and was just checking my account, and this release just came out. I'm curious of a few things and wonder if anybody here can shed some light: -I don't notice a statement of who he's replacing. Generally a release like this says that someone's stepped down or whatever and so-and-so is being promoted. Do you find this unusual? -If this guy's going to oversee *International*, why are they moving him back to Stamford, CT? lol -I don't know much about what goes on outside of the US w/WWE except that the wrestlers do travel there somewhat routinely and do put shows on. Do you think having a new head of this division will get more European talent into the ranks? What changes do you foresee, if any, or is this just a boardroom thing? Resolved Question: This isn't a war, is more like an extermination?!?!?

Come on Monday Night Wars but this time it isn't a war, more like an extermination............ Back in 1997, yes we had WCW but back then WWF was waaaay smaller than WWE is now and WCW even steadly kept beating WWF (now WWE) every single Monday for 2 years I think......that was the dreaded WWF Attitude Era and RAW is WAR stuff........ Now, things are very different. WWE, Inc. is a BIG monster corporation. It is even a PUBLIC TRADED CORPORATION registered on NYSE(New York Stock Exchange).....they have 4 shows, number of house shows, a BIG TIME international presence, toys, WWE Films, memorabilia, PPVs, etc etc etc TNA right now is not even HALF of what WCW used to be in 1997 and WWE right now is like 5 times BIGGER than it was in 1997.......so the competition, althoug is great and I completely welcome it and I will continue to watch TNA Impact from time to time.......we all know what will happen at the end.....WWE will completely swallow TNA! WWE has been around for many many many years and has revolutionatized the proffesional wrestling business and they are on TOP and has been on TOP for decades........... All you TNA fans, I congratuate the effort TNA is putting but keep things real........WWE is the best and has been the best for many many many years and never EVER understimate Vince McMahon.......Hulk Hogan is good but it was Vince McMahon that made Hulk Hogan, Hulk Hogan!=)@Charlie..... I'm a certified Hulkameniacs since I was a kid in the 80s but come on? doesn't TNA has also toys and action figures of wrestlers too? They do. Also that's profit too, you know? memorabilia and merchandising if part of the business now and WWE has a sorta monopoly there.............in fact WWE has a monopoly almost everywhere prowrestling matters!! Get real Charlie, come back to Earth........TNA Impact is great and I really liked the matches and everything BUT they are like ants going against a T-RexThank you all for your comments! Really this is like Walmart - everyone else war in retailing business.......you CANNOT compete against Walmart in prices, they would completely bury you......you got to put you USP (Unique Selling Position)....you gotta be the alternative and put your brand as different and better. That's exactly what TNA should do and is too be a more edgier, more adult type of pro wrestling show....they should really get the best and put more "sex" into their show with their knockouts (really, I fucking love Beautiful People). They have a LOT of potential there and put more soap opera. TNA has Russo so it can happen. If TNA tries to do the same thing WWE does to try to beat them on their own turf.......WWE will completely bury them, swallow them and erased TNA of existence! more

Resolved Question: Legalise Prostitution and drugs?

I have been wondering lately if prostitution and some soft drugs should be made legal??? I live in Ireland and prostitution is in every town in the country, its everywhere and the law in ireland as it is makes it so hard for the guards to do anything about it. It is NOT illegal to pay someone for sex. It is only illegal to advertise it or to make a living from it. Personally i think the guards waste too much time on this area with little results. I think it should just be made legal and then it can be regulised better. The girls working in the trade can be tested frequently which would be a major advantage. Also they could pay taxes ect.. And i know alot of people will say ooo they will in there hole pay taxes but as they will. As it is alot of the girls already do pay taxes, as e massaure or something along those lines, because when it comes to buying a house or something they need to be able to show this. Also there is a common miss conception that these girls working as escorts are forced into it. very few are, most girls do it by choice, i knew one girl, she was from Spain and she used come to Ireland for a month or so and work as an escort, make some money and then head back to Spain where she set up her own business. A day care center for animals. Very few girls are forced into it cause they are so many girls that are willing to do it. They are some that are smuggled into the country and forced into prostitution, i think it is these people that the guards should be spending there time trying to find and free. As for drugs, i personally dont use any kind of drug, but i have no problem with someone smoking a bit of hash or something. People who smoke a bit of weed gerally tend to be very mellowed out after it and cause trouble. Drunk people cause alot more trouble. If the soft stuff was legalised it would free up the guards to go after the serious stuff like coke and heroine. also it would mean the people who smoke it would be able to buy it from proper channels or grow it them selves with out having to buy off the serious crimals. What are your opinions?? more

Resolved Question: Just some of my views???????

I'm a supporter of Capitalism but I think the good outweighs the bad. Wal-Mart is the perfect example. Millions of people have been exploited for the cheap prices we benefit from here in America. I have a friend who doesn't support Wal-Mart. Since becoming familiar with Wal-Mart business practices, he has refused to go even near a Wal-Mart. If a terrorist was to attack a Wal-Mart, he is one person who doesn't have to worry. I think the same logic applies to the World Trade Center. I'm sorry for the people who lost a loved one, but those people, unconsciously, supported a system that has exploited and killed so many people. My grandfather killed himself because he couldn't provide for his family and he worked his ass off, proving that hard work doesn't pay off. I'm the first one in my family to go to college. I don't think I achieve this by hard work. I always say that I was in the right place at the right time. I strongly disagree when people say that my ancestors died for the freedoms that I enjoy today. My ancestors could have cared less about me, and I don't blame them. Like everyone else they wanted to have a good life. But what I'm trying to say is that if a person supports a system that has killed and exploited so many people, expect to pay the consequences. I recently worked as a park ranger at famous historical park. I left because I realized I wasn't practicing what I was preaching. I was working for the GOVERNMENT. How much more hypocritical can you get? Here in America and other counties, we live as if no one can touch us. I was watching this documentary called Skid Row. Skid row is run down impoverished community in L.A, that isn't’t shown in the commercials, just miles from the Staple Center. It got me to thinking that there are some advantages to being poor. In a post 9/11 world, places like skid row are the safest places to be. There are a lot of things wrong with the world, and we can’t keep pretending as if they don’t exist. We watch these movies like Taken and expect a happy ending but in the real world is completely different story. Life shouldn't’t be about making a living, but instead living your life. We got a lot of reprogramming to do. more

Resolved Question: Is it right to overthrow (or help overthrow) "Democratically Elected" Leaders?

If you think it is O.K. to overthrow or help (finance) the overthrow of DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED Leaders then please explain the Justification for such actions. Planning and waging Wars is what the "bad guys" are supposed to do and we "the good guys" historically (see WW1 and WW2 for details) step up and "defend" democracy and freedom from such tyrants. If a foreign government attempted to isolate the U.S. or the U.K. economically, cut off our supply of gasoline, or starve us to death, would it cause Americans to admire that foreign entity? Or would we instead unite under the flag for the survival of our country? Last week the House overwhelmingly approved a measure to put a new round of sanctions on Iran. If this measure passes the Senate, the United States could no longer do business with anyone who sold refined petroleum products to Iran or helped them develop their ability to refine their own petroleum. Do you agree with such a policy? I would then like put this question to you,... "How would Congress, or the U.K. Parliament react,.. if another government threatened our critical trading partners in this way? Would we not view it as asking for war? Are YOU ready for another WAR,...are you ready to send your Children / Brothers / Sisters off to die once more for what?.... And before any of you start with the usual "Iran are coming to kill us all, or Iran is planning to attack Israel with nuclear bombs",...show me the evidence which can not be refuted. Remember, we were all told (like it or not) that Saddam was going to do all these things also,....LIES LIES LIES LIES LIES. Your INTELLIGENT thoughts,.... more

Resolved Question: NFL Team playoff Danger-meter?

I want the honest, no B.S. opinions of some real football fans. Who are the most dangerous teams in the NFL going into the playoffs? Rate 1-10. Here's what I think: Let's start in the NFC: Philly, they'll win the division, and I honestly think they're a team the Saints and Vikes don't want to play, because as the Vikes and Saints are slowing down, the Eagles are hitting thier stride. They can put up points, New Orleans, watch out, you may have crushed this team (minus McNabb) early in the year, but they can trade punches with you till the end. Plus they have playoff experience. Danger-meter 8. Minnesota: They've been playing like flat out garbage recently. Adrian Peterson is running like an average back, Favre is back to his late season form, and the team is seemingly in turmoil. Still, very complete. Rest them up, finish 12-4 or 13-3 and we'll see the team we saw for most of the year. Childress has to right the ship. Danger meter: 9. Saints: We know about them. But before the Cowboys game, playing in the Super Dome was like being thrown to the lions to be devoured. Now, they are looking mighty worn out. Saints would be best to rest their starters in week 17 and finish 15-1, because the Bucs wont beat them. Well rested, and surely well motivated, nobody wants to play this team in New Orleans in the playoffs. Plus they don't have the undefeated burden anymore. Danger: 10. Cards: They rocked the Vikes, then barely beat the Lions. They can be the best team in the league, or a very average one. Still, the way they took care of business last year, they can do it again. Nobody wants to play this team, when they actually show up. Danger: 8. Packers: I'll give them a 6 out of 10 on the danger meter because they are a decent team, but don't have what it takes to compete with the above 4 teams. To put it simply, I would be very surprised to see this team make the NFC Championship, while the Eagles, Cards, Saints, and Vikes wouldn't surprise me at all. Cowboys: I think this is the year they win a playoff game. I don't know why people sleep on this team so much, they're actually pretty good. Do I consider them a Super Bowl contender? No, but then again, I didn't think the Cards were last year, or the Giants 2 years ago. Then again, this is the Cowboys with Tony Romo and Wade Phillips were talking about here. You never know, don't sleep on them. Danger: 7. Colts: Give them a 10 out of 10. No explanations needed, they have been questioned all year, and just continue to answer and win games. They know how to win, and they want to win. With Peyton Manning, no game is out of reach. Chargers: I wouldn't call you a fool if you said the Chargers were the best team in football. Heck, I'd agree with you. The Chargers are absolutely on fire, and I don't think there's any team that's playing much better than San Diego. They can score with anyone. Plus they're bona-fide Colt killers. Danger 10 out of 10. Pats: I don't know how much I respect the Pats. Their defense looks terrible, Randy Moss and his drama seem to be eating away at this team, and they don't seem like the usual Patriots teams, mainly in the chemistry department. There's alot of new faces on D, and I just don't like something about them. I would not be surprised to see a one and done in the Wild Card round. Danger: 7. Bengals: Quite simply, playing with heavy hearts, and unmatched motivation. They can play with anyone, but they can also lose to anyone. I still don't think I have this team figured out all the way, but still, certainly not a pushover. Danger: 8. Broncos: I don't like too much about this team. I feel like they're just smoke and mirrors. They are simply not good enough to get to the Super Bowl and I would be extremely surprised if they did. Danger 5. Ravens: Baltimore is hanging around, and they're a pretty dangerous team. Still, the D is aging, and while the offense can certainly put up a few points, they aren't in the league of the elite teams offensively. I just don't trust their defense to stifle the high powered offenses they will no doubt face in a deep playoff run. Don't see them going to far. Danger: 6. Super Bowl: Chargers Vs. one of the 2 NFC Birds (Eagles or Cards, rematch of last year's NFC title game)Spewy, I like your points you brought up, but it's not what you did, it's what you do in the NFL. It's not how good you were, it's how good you are. Eagles may have lost to Oakland, but so did a few other quality teams, heck, Oakland should have had S.D. in the first game of the season. The Eagles are a different team than they were back then. Sometimes a loss like that is good for a team. I can't do anything except agree with your statement on the Colts, they just don't lose. Bottom line. more

Resolved Question: I've to prepare a write-up about myself?

Im applying for an mba course which requires me to describe myself in some 200 words, addressing my personal qualities, strengths, weakness and activities that interest me and also what i think my parents etc think of me... I started writing but got lost as always I don't have the right direction to proceed. this is how i started I would like share my life experiences and how those helped me understand myself. Being the eldest sibling, I’ve been mature and self reliant as far as i can remember, i used to take decisions about my studies, etc since early days in school and i used to get good results with my strategy of focusing on the basics. Graduating away from my home i’ve learnt to adjust and adapt. I used my new found freedom to explore new places and thus travelled a lot with my friends, which helped me understand and interact with new people. I picked up organising skills while organising those trips and other events in my college like our branch’s fest, intra college quiz, etc. I’ve been working with cts for the last 29 months as a software consultant. While doing this i’ve realised that i’m very keen learner, as i’m always interested to learn new technologies and gather information about the business. There have been situations where i’ve worked under pressure, continuously to meet deadlines. I’ve realised that how team work is important to succeed professionally, how i need to be flexible to accommodate others and also how to rely on others. This has helped me understand my shortcomings and overcome them as i’ve realised that i loose my patience sometimes when others are calm or sometimes when i’ve failed to realise my mistakes when others pointed them. My ability to earn has also made me more sensible in making decisions for myself and utilise my resources to best possible means. I’ve developed new hobbies and developed interest in tennis, cricket, stocks, etc. And these are the qualities i could find in my soul searching: +ves 1. I'm an inquisitive and very keen learner as i'm always on a lookout for something more. I like to share that knowledge with other people and love to get into conversations or debates with my friends. 2. I've good analytical skills 3. i always stress on the basics 4. I don't hesitate to ask questions and doubts. 5. I can work under pressure. 6. I'm helping and don't mind going out of my way sometimes to help people. 7. I'm broad minded and open to unconventional ways. 8. I'm a good listener 9. People trust me and and my parents believe that I'm capable of doing anything 10. I'm honest and trustworthy 11. I'm fun loving and adventurous 12. I'm a perfectionist 13. I'm social and i like to work in team -ves: 1. I take people for granted and don't care about there feelings 2. I'm not punctual 3. I don't take criticism positively 4. I cant concentrate on one thing for very long and thus deviate from my goal 5. I'm not very self confident 6. I like to show off 7. Jack of all trades master of few 8. I don't trust people and I can be manipulative at times 9. I'm introvert and shy The problem here is how to present myself as a worthy candidate for an mba course by earning brownie points from what i write and proving to have the potential and ability to become a good manager more

They cannot do anything because, they are not much educated and don't have proper system in India where cheaters can walk freely and do day time robbery. Still government is clueless and do not come forward to help the innocent people. As per the information collected there is some complaint from this companies online.
