This oral presentation will explain to you how “women in sport gain sufficient recognition by the media in the 21st century than in previous decades” and how this can still be improved. The relationship between sport and the media has become so close that without the media the sporting world would collapse. The main income for sport comes from the media, as the media attracts big money through sponsorship and advertisements. The money from this helps clubs to be able to buy and import better players to make the game allot more interesting, the clubs can also use this money to upgrade, build and repair stadiums along with giving the players salaries. Without promotion of sport through the media there would be no new young talent coming through and the sport would become boring and people would loose interest in it. Media has a large impact on games and often games will often be revolved around add breaks. Ever since sport has been broadcast on television games have been changed to attract a wider audience, like one day cricket for example was formed in 1977 because of the media influence to attract a wider audience. A quote from the editor of, the economist (20 July 1996) “The lure of money is already altering sport and will change it more. Increasingly games will be reorganised to turn them into better television.”(p 367). The Medias involvement in sport is constantly becoming more important. Sports relationship with the media started out small but become much closer with advancement in technology. Ever since the media has become involved in sport it has rapidly become a very profitable business. Sport was first introduced into the media in 1956 but had a minimal affect due to lack of communication tools and technology. Then in the 1970’s with the development of technology sport had another go with the world cricket series being televised for the first time to a television audience of 1 million people, from then on the relationship between sport and the media blossomed and were then inextricably linked. Quote Jacques Marchand (1994) “At the start, the marriage of sport and the media was a love match. It later became a marriage of convenience and today, with the advent of [global] television, it has become, in addition, a marriage based on money.” (p 367) Since the beginning of sport it has been male dominated and it is only really in the past couple of years women have started to gain some recognition. The messages the media send about women and women’s sport have a large influence on how female athletes and sports are accepted in society. Women have come a long way in sports from only being able to view sporting events if they were unmarried virgins or prostitutes to now being able to participate and compete in almost every kind of sport, but they still get almost no recognition whatsoever. Women often have to pose either nude or in bikinis due to lack of coverage and promotion. For example in 2000 to gain media publicity, the Australian soccer team had to pose nude in a calendar shoot. In the courier mail on the 12 of November 2008 there were only three news articles on women’s sport out of the thirty eight sport articles there. One of the articles was about tennis player Daniela Hantuchova here is the article I have highlighted the parts I believe that women in sport constantly have to endure (pass it around the room) look at the bottom of that one it says. “Hantuchova has sustained her carrier well after many years in which a battle to keep weight on her thin 181cm frame was closely monitored by the international media.” That is an example of the media controlling how sporting women look. The last time a female was on the front page of a news paper or featured on the news was during the Olympics, but still it was images of the girls wearing their tight swim suits or other tight clothes and only featured the attractive girls, yet another example of sexism. The other articles are about the Firebirds net ball team and it mainly spoke about re-signing Tasmin greenway the “English stunner” the article was alright but focused on her looks, And the other article was about the sports stars of the year with a tiny space in the bottom of the page and a photo of Stephanie Rice even though the actual article mentioned her once and was mainly about men. The media have so much control they can do almost anything they like, for example with the women’s beach volleyball they have changed the design of outfits to tiny bikinis, and use many different camera angles to let guys have a “perve” when the girls go to serve, there is a nice close up of their bums. Female beach volleyball has a predominately male auidence due to the media changing the rules to attract a male auidence. I think i made a hasty decision by choosing masters in computer science. I want to get an MBA degree that will add value to my resume and improve my chances in the job market on the business side. Almost all elementary students across America are presented with a reading log on the first day of school, some believe this to be useful to a fulfilled education but some think that this is only holding our ideas back and making us not want to read. So many parents, teachers, or just plain individuals have been questioning the usefulness and intent of this so called reading log. A few of the people who have debated over the worthiness of a reading log are Mr. Richard Roundy, Mrs. Jodi Fur, and Miss Vicki Young. These individuals are completely different people but they all have at least one thing in common, their fascination with required reading logs. One of these individuals is Mrs. Jodi Fur. Fur and her husband continually read to their children and both find it soothing that they live in a home where their children “will sneak a flashlight under their covers to finish a book way after bedtime”. In her rant, “I hate Reading…Logs”, Fur states how appalled she is that schools actually “use food and candy as rewards” for reading. She goes on to say that reading logs only stress out her children and how it is even worse that these students only read for a reward, the joy of books is lost. Fur wants her children to enjoy reading for themselves, not just for the reward of a snickers bar. At the end of her rant Fur makes her stance on the issue clear by firmly stating that “I just don’t believe required reading logs are fundamentally important for every single student from Kindergarten to 12th grade.” Unlike Jodi Fur, eighth grade teacher Mr. Richard Roundy finds it quite helpful towards his students to include a numbered list of ideas for reading logs in the curriculum at the beginning of the year. Instead of simply telling his students what to read Roundy gives them a wide variety, the only rules are that they must choose a book they want to read form the classroom library, the school library, or any other source. The students are then required to write a two-page reading log that must be handed in every week. To really get his students into reading all types of literature Roundy does not limit these logs to fiction, but permits the use of biographies, poetry, and some non-fiction. He also allows his students to feel free by giving them the option to “choose which type of logs they will write, with one rule: they are only allowed to choose option #7 (drawing a picture) once per book. I’ve received many interesting and creative reading logs that were inspired by option #12 (use your imagination to invent your own type of log)”. The following is an example of a readers log completed by one of his current students, a violinist, who enjoys reading biographies of famous composers. “He wrote one short violin piece for each of the books her read. He played the piece for me then handed in a paragraph about how the piece related to the composer’s music or life. He enjoyed the reading, he made meaningful connections between reading and a personal pursuit, and both of us enjoyed his playing”. This student fulfilled exactly what Roundy wanted out of his students, “the idea that is not only to get students hooked on reading, but to get them hooked on being thoughtful about what they read”. The complete opposite of Richard Roundy would have to be Miss Vicki Young. Instead of allowing her students to be flexible, Young stuck to a more structured style while assigning reading logs. Young “incorporated reading logs in a course of English for economics and finance which focused on communication skills in an international business environment”. Just to see how her students took this new way of doing things, Young asked her students to fill out a questionnaire concerning the reading log activity. About two-thirds of her “students agreed that reading logs helped familiarize them with terms, issues, and writing styles in the field of business”. One student went so far as to comment that the “logs were meaningful and broadened his knowledge” on business related topics. Instead of only focusing on the business aspect of everything, about 50% of her students “believed that the activity actually helped with their writing skills”. About “76% felt that their understanding of the article was enhanced after writing in their logs”. Many students stated that by sharing their logs with a partner they “were exposed to a variety of topics in the field. The activity gave them a chance to practice their spoken English and share their ideas with the class”. Although most students were thrilled by the reading activities and being paired up for discussions, they were “less positive towards writing and whole-class discussion”. However I am not sure as to what graduate schools will take me and what types of schools I should target for. However I don't know if I will get accepted there, and I am aiming too high. I don't want to apply for these programs if I don't stand a chance. Verint is considered the world leader in “electronic interception” and hence an ideal private sector candidate for wiretap outsourcing. Amdocs is the world’s largest billing service for telecommunications, with some $2.8 billion in revenues in 2007, offices worldwide, and clients that include the top 25 phone companies in the United States that together handle 90 percent of all call traffic among U.S. residents. The companies’ operations, sources suggest, have been infiltrated by freelance spies exploiting encrypted trapdoors in Verint/Amdocs technology and gathering data on Americans for transfer to Israeli intelligence and other willing customers (particularly organized crime). “The fact of the vulnerability of our telecom backbone is indisputable,” says a high level U.S. intelligence officer who has monitored the fears among federal agents. “How it came to pass, why nothing has been done, who has done what – these are the incendiary questions.” If the allegations are true, the electronic communications gathered up by the NSA and other U.S. intelligence agencies might be falling into the hands of a foreign government. Reviewing the available evidence, Robert David Steele, a former CIA case officer and today one of the foremost international proponents for “public intelligence in the public interest,” tells me that “Israeli penetration of the entire US telecommunications system means that NSA's warrantless wiretapping actually means Israeli warrantless wiretapping.” As early as 1999, the National Security Agency issued a warning that records of U.S. government telephone calls were ending up in foreign hands – Israel’s, in particular. My grandparents are successful entrepreneurs owning a chain of Chinese restaurants and a factory producing soya bean products in Scotland. Therefore from early childhood, I was exposed to a business related environment. I am pretty outgoing, but also stand offish. I'm not as excited about life as I used to be. I used to want to move away from home, but now my life away from home isn't as exciting. I'm having a really hard time deciding what to do when I graduate in April. I will have a B.A. in Communication Studies and a minor in International Business and about a 3.3. I also have some semesters of statistics courses. I would like to get my M.A. or M.S. someday, but I'm not sure in what, nor I'm not sure from where. WI company markets controversial paint to color guns
A Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin company is in the middle of a dispute involving the product it sells.
Lauer Custom Weaponry manufactures paints to color guns.
The Mayor of New York City has already banned the paints and at least one other municipality wants to do the same thing.
On Wednesday, Nassau County, New York announced it wants to pass local legislation that would ban the possession and sale of brightly colored handguns in the county.
The commissioner there says he's outraged at Lauer Custom Weaponry for mocking the efforts of Mayor Bloomberg to enhance police officer safety.
They come in all shades of colors.
Greens, pinks, blues, and blacks.

Progen to outsource manufacturing of PI-88
Progen Pharmaceuticals Limited said it would outsource the commercial manufacture of PI-88. The Progen manufacturing facility at the Brisbane suburb of Darra will be retained as a stand-alone business providing process development services and the manufacture of drug development material. Progen expects the transfer of PI-88 manufacture to occur in the next 12 to 18 months.
Progen will maintain the manufacturing facility with existing contracts as a break even operation, and will be assessing its options to either increase facility profitability through additional manufacturing contracts and/or seek a commercial buyer.
"Our manufacturing division has been of great value and has served Progen very well in the past, having made all PI-88 to date, including the supply to be used in the phase III PATHWAY trial as well as having played and continuing to play an important role in supplying contract manufacturing services globally" said, Justus Homburg CEO Progen. more
