International ICT students get help finding jobs down-under
The program includes 12 months of practical training and workshops, a 12 week internship, and networking opportunities within the ICT industry through an automatic membership with the ACS.Monash Professional and Swinburne University are the first two accredited universities to partner with PYear, but Hart says there are about six more currently in the application process.To qualify for the program, students must have graduated with a degree in IT from an accredited university, and must have spent at least two years of their course studying in Australia.They will learn how to take on administrative and leadership roles in the ICT industry, including how to chair a meeting, write reports, and live up to the ethical and legal standards required in the Australian workforce.Students who complete the course may receive 10 points on the General Skilled Migration Points test required for permanent residency.Though the program does not automatically grant the students with citizenship, Hart says one of the program's primary goals is to secure jobs for all participants.“We don't want them to just stay in Australia, we want them to stay and operate in the industry as trained IT professionals," he said.“We may have to educate employers as well, to let them know that these people do have the ability and skills to work well in the Australian industry."

Betsy Ann leaving the retail business
The West View company has decided to steadily exit the business of operating retail stores and shift its focus entirely to its fund-raising and Internet sales operations, according to President Jim Paras.
Four stores have been shuttered in the past few months with plans to slowly work through lease obligations at seven other locations and eventually close those sites as well. Mr. Paras said he's not sure how long that process will take.
Small specialty stores such as Betsy Ann's have been struggling to keep a spot in customers' shopping routines, he said. It's simpler to just pick up something at a grocery store or big box retailer, where the selection has expanded in recent years and customers also can take care of other chores.
Mr. Paras sees more opportunity on the Internet. more
Fox's biscuits launches 'danda' ad
Mike Driver, the Fox marketing director, said: "We've worked really hard over the last year to relaunch the Fox's brand and position ourselves as a biscuit expert that consumers can trust.
"The aim of the ad campaign is to highlight our longstanding heritage with a contemporary twist."
Fox's biscuits has been going since 1853, when Michael Spedding made his first batch of Brandy Snaps in a small confectionery shop in Batley, outside Leeds.
Last September, Fox's Glacier Mints brought back its fox and polar bear characters after a 20-year break in a TV campaign voiced by theatre star Simon Callow.
Peppy, the laid-back polar bear who sits proudly on his Glacier mint, was first included on pack in 1922.
Fox's Glacier Mints were introduced in 1918 by Eric Fox, a founding member of Fox's Confectionery. more
JCCC offers class for small businesses
The Kansas Small Business Development Center at Johnson County Community College will offer “The 7 Habits for Small Business Owners and Managers: A Franklin Covey Workshop" from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 24 and 26 at room 145 in the Regnier Center, JCCC.
The two-day workshop is an intensive application-oriented learning experience that focuses on the necessary tools to meet small business challenges including delegation, problem solving, goal setting, accountability, trust, time management, collaboration and employee development.
The class is limited to individuals representing businesses with fewer than 100 employees. The cost is $395 and includes lunch and workshop materials. For more information, call (913) 469-3878.
