Focusing on the big picture

One of the biggest effects on marketing in the past 50 years has been the adoption of a marketing orientation: the ability to focus on customers� needs instead of one�s own need to sell. Directing resources to filling wants and needs of those who buy your products and services usually results in more profitability than working primarily to meet organizational requirements.

Part of the reason for the success of the marketing orientation is that it redirects managers� attention, and company resources, from the day-to-day grind to the overall needs and interests of those the firm is trying to serve. This change in focus results in the ability to see the big picture as well as future trends that may affect the firm.

In a nutshell, becoming market-oriented keeps a firm from being too self-interested to track what is going on in the industry and in specific target markets. more

Commtouch OKs $4M stock buyback Silicon Valley / San Jose Business

Commtouch Inc., an e-mail and Web defense technology provider, said Wednesday it approved the repurchase of up to $4 million of its shares.

Israel-based Commtouch (NASDAQ:CTCH), which has U.S. operations in Sunnyvale, said the share repurchases will be funded from available working capital.

The company reported a net cash position of $16.5 million as of June 30, and said it believes its cash resources, after the repurchase, "will be adequate to allow it to continue pursuing its objectives."
