Barrette Business Services sets regular dividend of 8 cents

(AP:VANCOUVER, Wash.) Barrett Business Services Inc. said Friday its board declared a regular quarterly dividend of 8 cents.

The human resources management company dividend is payable June 12 to shareholders of record May 29.

Customer service, growth new resource agency focus

Great economic growth is possible with smart, focused and sustained investments in our natural resource-based economy and more effective marketing of Maine's products and experiences.

Maine is perfectly positioned to take advantage of growing demand for energy, water, food, fiber and quality outdoor experiences. And the state's natural resources offer many opportunities to reduce energy costs for our citizens and businesses.

As a member of the Natural Resources Agency Task Force, charged by Governor John Baldacci and the Legislature to reorganize five agencies, I'm excited and intrigued by the possibilities.

Specifically, we're asked to "consider all ideas and organizational configurations, eliminate duplication and create greater efficiencies to improve the delivery of services to the citizens of the State of Maine associated with the natural resources sector."

I believe the challenge is much greater than a simple reorganization. more

New grain clearing house

AUSTRALIAN grain producers will have access to a new marketing product to sell their grain, with the launch of an online trading house – Clear Commodities.

The business, billed by general manager Bob McKay as a provider of online trading, clearing, contract execution and payment services, was launched this week in Melbourne at the Australian Grains Industry Conference.

The concept sees Clear matching buyers and sellers online. A grower delivers to their bulk handler of choice and transfers their grain receipts to Clear and then via the internet can sell their grain to multiple buyers who post bids onto the Clear system.

Mr McKay said the enterprise was primarily focused around the execution of physical grain sales, as opposed to previous forays into online trading, which have been mainly focused on the futures market. more
