PORTLAND, Ore. - Metro One Telecommunications Inc. will exit the wholesale directory assistance business by May 5, resulting in the closing of call centers and the elimination of about 600 positions.
The Portland-based company said it will close or sell call centers, where it handled incoming information calls for telecommunications companies, in Minneapolis; Charlotte, N.C.; Orlando, Fla.; and Honolulu in addition to its recently closed call centers in Long Island, N.Y., and Portland. Coorparoo blaze 'looks deliberate': police
Senior firefighters say a blaze that destroyed 10 businesses in Brisbane's east yesterday appears to have been deliberate.
The fire at Coorparoo caused more than $3 million damage and put 120 people out of work.
Senior operations coordinator Kevin Devitt says investigators will focus on a dry cleaning business where the fire started.
"We are finishing up work we started yesterday, we had an excavator onsite and we were removing the roofing the fire in my opinion is looking like a suspicious fire," he said.
Mr Devitt says it should be safe for investigators to enter the site today.
"It is going to be a big job for our investigators and they will be onsite this morning looking to see if they can find a cause," he said. more
